Apparently kids are very easy to please. And when you use ice cream to do it, the task becomes much easier. This old school drive in is a very nostalgic piece of Americana. It was a staple of my childhood and invokes a trip down memory lane on each visit. But my memories of the hand churned ice cream twisted into a swirling ribbon of snow white vanilla and deep, rich, chocolate tasting like paradise are sadly just that, memories. I've only returned a few times since I left Lake Country, and the actual taste didn't hold up to the memory. It's a fine tasting treat no doubt. The creaminess rivals all others. But after being exposed to many, many other options theirs is a solid C+ for pleasing my adult taste buds. But they will always get an A from those of my childhood!

The Kiltie is completely awesome. It's just such an experience straight out of Americana. Sure there are still drive-ins around, but this is the real deal. The lights, signage and building are totally retro, and I got a real kick out of the awesome folks who drive their vintage cars to it - really completes the experience. You can either pull in and park and use the picnic tables around back, or, if there's room, pull up into a car space and a carhop will come take your order and bring your food. Food-wise, you can get a variety of burgers, fries, plenty of fried stuff, etc, and they also have vanilla and chocolate custard, which can be made in a variety of ways. Seriously - the savory foods are maybe 1/4, or 1/3 of the menu - the rest is all the ways you can enjoy your custard! Sundaes, with jimmies, flurries with candy mix-ins, plain in a cup or giant waffle cone, shakes... it goes on. Check out the Mello Mint sundae if you are a mint fan!

A standard in Oconomowoc. A true drive-in with car hops. The custard is wonderful and the food is good, but nothing great. I think the experience makes them taste better. There is a small green area with some tables if you want to get out of your vehicle with the family and eat outside.

I love the atmosphere at this place, the ice cream is great but I guess I've had better burgers. An experience that I crave a few times every summer,

Love this place!! Seriously recommend the turtle custard. I wouldn't recommend coming here for great quality food, usually I just come for the custard, but the onion rings are very good!

I love this place it has great shakes great food great everything. The waiters are nice but there's birdies that are like above the cars and they usually poop inside of the car if the moonroof is open, it's the best in July!

The Kiltie has been a staple in my life since I was a child. The food has never disappointed and every item I've tried Has been great. The custard is quite an overhaul to to what you'd expect. Nothing could ever be wrong. Go here. Do it now.

Awful food. Good ice cream. Do not go for a meal!! Tenderloin burnt and dried out. manager refused to come out to talk to us. Fish meal hot but very salty and dried out, fries cold, coleslaw soggy and nasty. Manager does not stand behind the food she sends out. Owner not on site.

From the hand lettered signs to the car hops in mini-kilts who put trays on car windows, this wonderful drive-in is a nostalgic throwback to my days as a yakky kid in the back seat of The Old Man's Buick. Places like this used to be in every town in the midwest, but in these days of franchises and portion control, places like The Kiltie, Milty-Wilty in Wautoma and Leon's in Milwaukee are disappearing all too quickly. For all of you who live elsewhere that have no idea what frozen custard is all about, you're missing out on the greatest dairy treat out there!

Other than nostalgia, I don't understand how anyone gave this place above 2 stars. I've now eaten lunch and ice cream here, and won't be going back. It was all mediocre at best, and I'd rather go to a chain like Culver's, not to mention the other numerous smaller burger and ice cream joints, than eat anything from The Kiltie. It's all very disappointing, as the location is close, and the concept is cute. Oh well, there's a lot of ice cream in Wisconsin, so it's really no loss for our family.

They gave us dishes fot the doggies with a scoop of vanilla softserve and a doggie biscuit.! Food was ok but the memories and great customer service give this place 4 Stars.

Summer doesn't begin until I've had a turtle. I'm not kidding. This was the place to go to see and be seen when I was in high school- not sure if this is still true but like to pretend it is. I know I am impressive when I pull up in my Fiat.

Growing up, summer wasn't complete without a trip to the Kiltie, and I still feel that way to this day. The menu has remained the same - in fact, everything here has remained the same. If you park your car under the red and white checkered lights, the bugs that are stuck to them are probably the same ones that have been stuck for years! But seriously - the only thing that's changed is the prices, which have gone up a bit. I believe they only accept cash, so make sure you have cash on hand! The custard is still the same - you can still get a plain vanilla cone, or an Animal Circus (one of my favorites!) or a Mello Mint, or whatever your favorite sundae happened to be. It operates every year from May to September!

I've been going here forever..all of grade school, middle school, high school, now college. It's a summer staple for sure! It's always fun whether you're coming off the lake with friends or want dessert with the family. The girls working there are all friendly and still have to wear the little kilts. The custard is fabulous, my favorite is the jimmie sundae..chocolate or vanilla custard covered in jimmies and of course a cherry on top :) and cheese fries! The ONLY reason I give it only 4 stars is because it is a little more pricey than you'd expect from a custard & burger place, and they only take cash!! Keep that in mind! If you're in the area, or want a little adventure from Milwaukee, head up there!

The custard is okay and the kitschy Americana thing works, but stick to the custard and go elsewhere for proper food. The burgers are bad (always have been) and the fries taste like greasy wax paper.

This place is a one of a kind place to go if you are visiting anywhere near Oconomowoc. The custard is amazing. The food is good and the atmosphere is really fun. Its a great place to go on the warm summer nights, especially in a Jeep with the doors off =o)

The BEST frozen custard ever!!!! I love this place! I have to stop by whenever I'm in the area. The people are always super nice. I love the whole drive-in experience. Definitely worth stopping by!

Are you people insane? Five stars? Come on. Made the mistake of getting off I-94 just to track this place down... Now if you're local I'm sure this place is satisfactory...but I've seen many a better drive ins. My "Deluxe" burger was more like a "Boring" burger...deluxe burger with the tiniest piece of lettuce I've ever seen on a sandwich and a tomato slice...no ketchup (which was brought on the tray, sure) or mustard (which was not on the tray), no pickle no onion...dang, and no flavor. This burger reminded me of a crummy high school lunch offering. Yuck. Really, I hate to put a nice little place down but it has to be done. The fries were good. The onion rings were awesome. (See, I don't just rip). My chocolate malt however was below average. Not nice and creamy...or very chocolately...didn't finish this either. Even the root beer was less than average...not sure what brand it was, but eh. The drive in itself could be cute...but isn't. The menu is short. Oconomowoc needs a clue. Drive to Grafton and see Wayne's Drive In for an example of a GOOD drive in.

My Grandfather would eat here and took my dad and then he took me. I have to say this is pure Americana. Waitresses are great and there is nothing better then seeing staff smile and be happy. They enjoy being there and it shows. It might give you a heart attack but you will die with a smile on your face. It makes In and Out look like McDonald's every time I am in within 100 miles and its warm out I'll make the drive.

I have to agree. This place is the best. I grew up in Okauchee and used to eat here all the time (30+ years now). Everytime I go back home, I have to stop by here if they're open.

The Kiltie has been around forever. It's an old fashioned drive-in where you sit in your car and a girl takes your order and delivers your food. Great food, great ice cream treats, and and all-around fun place. (Not open in the winter months.)
