Well, we will never go to this place ever again. Our 2 year old was having a tantrum and decided to sit on the floor. While in the the process of getting up to get her, the owner proceeded to come over and told us to "pick that one up". Completely rude and uncalled for! And not only that, the food wasn't very good. So disappointed.

The lines are a bit long, but its well worth the wait. The food is good (the donuts are INCREDIBLE), the service is good, and the atmosphere is good as well. If you are ever in Northern Wisconsin this is the place to eat breakfast.

Holy tourist trap Batman!! I must warn you, however, that if you have children they will force you to take them here. Just act like you love it and then tell them that the place closed or something.

Great, fun family place! We came here for lunch. The decor is fun. The country-feel tablecloths and metal dark blue cups take you to another world. Such a nice touch. Our waitress, Michaela, was helpful, kind and attentive. I highly recommend the Paul Bunyan Portobello burger and the grilled chicken salad platter. My children ordered off the children's menu; a cheeseburger and a hotdog. The choices of sides included healthy options; cottage cheese and applesauce. This was nice as kids seem to automatically get a side of fries at most places. Be sure to check out the gift shop. We bought postcards and a fun sweatshirt. Overall, fantastic experience!

Thank God this place is 5 hours away from me because I would be broke and the size of Paul Bunyan, but sideways. Been here for breakfast, dinner and Friday Fish Fry. Honestly I can't pick which one I like best. Maybe the Breakfast because it cured my hangover. The waitresses are real cute too. Coffee is great. \ AYCE!!!!

When you first walk in, you feel like you've entered a gift shop instead of a cook shanty. Very limited menu, and while the price and food were good, we felt like we were too limited on options and that almost everything in the building was for sale. Also, they seem to push tipping the servers a lot here. Lots of signs about tipping, even on your table, was a little block of wood with a clip that reminds you to tip generously. Good tips come with good service, not 100 signs hung all over the place.

No place like it. It's worth going to... but not for the food.

My only place I eat breakfast at when I'm up here. Everyone I bring here ends up loving it. Even people who have ate at the one in the dells like this location more. Experience something different and give this place a try!

Read about it on line. Typical 'tourist trap'? NOPE! Unique family style breakfast. Greeted with warm(!) cinnamon donuts once seated. Very attentive waiter. Delicious breakfast offerings of juices, scrambled eggs, French toast, pancakes, ham, sausage links, kielbasa, biscuits and gravy and fried potatoes and onions. Oh, did I mention warm donuts?! We felt price charged was very fair for all you could eat. Even if you couldn't eat as much as Paul Bunyan. Decor was so fun to look at. Vintage items hung from every inch of wall, ceiling and timber posts. Full size sleigh and farm wagon also hung from ceiling. I thought we were in the main dining room but my husband informed me there was another room twice the size of the one we were in. Fun kitschy souvenir store. And you HAVE to take your picture by Paul and his ox Babe outside before you leave.

I love Paul Bunyan's, but breakfast is definitely the time to go! Their donuts are the best donut I've ever eaten in my life, which is saying something! What you need to know before going to Paul Bunyan's is that it's about the experience just as much as the food. Pancakes and scrambled eggs can be ordered anywhere, but the family style service, the lumberjack traditions and atmosphere make it a 5 star. Seriously though, get the donuts!

YUMMMMMM!!! Awesome experience. I normally don't like "Family style" serving, but this place was excellent! The food was great, customer service was great, store was great :) All you can eat is really unnecessary, as we were STUFFED after round #1 Good stuff here :)

I live in San Francisco now, but I grew up in Minocqua, and Paul Bunyan's has been a staple for my family and our visitors since I was born. A stop here is always on the schedule when I come for a visit. So yes, part of what I love about this place is the nostalgia it conjures up for me. And I can't imagine a better place to take kids. Cheap and unlimited food (served family style), loud and boisterous dining room, decorations galore, and a gift shop chock-full of every knick-knack my 8 year old self ever wanted. We always came here for breakfast, as that seemed to be the better meal (I'm basing that on a 1993 dinner experience, FWIW). With the exception of the cinnamon sugar donuts (SO delicious!), the food is not anything special, and certainly not healthy. But I guarantee that everything will taste better here in this magical world of woodsiness and lumberjack-ery than it would in a sterile diner!

It's Lumberjack Breakfast time! It's AYCE served family style. Scrambled Eggs, pancakes, fried potatoes, sausage links, Kielbasa, ham, pancakes, Cider Doughnuts, Coffee,Milk, OJ. There's a log cabin feel to this place. And the red checkered tablecloths and tin cups make you feel like you're getting ready for a day working in the woods or working on the lake. No worries, there's regular plates and silverware. They may feed you like a lumberjack, but no need to eat like one! No offense to lumberjacks! The service is friendly and adequate. Mostly young adults and I'm sure its probably a rite of passage for kids in this area to work at PB's. The gift shop offers cards, trinkets, home decor and black bears galore! Get your picture taken in front of the big Paul Bunyan sign or with Babe the Blue ox for your home album. PB's has been a regular stop for my husband when he was younger on his family trips and I think now will be regular stop for for our family! Family Friendly all the time.

This is such a cute, whimsical place; I think someone would have be a very angry, miserable person if they didn't like Paul Bunyan's. It's all you can eat for a set price. We went for breakfast which ends at 12pm. This is a complete binge-fest if you're up for platters of meat, biscuits and gravy, warm donuts, scrambled eggs, and pancakes. Most of the tables were family with kids. I went with my fiancé's family so there were 8 of us (no kids thought). However, I also saw several tables of older folks sitting by themselves.

Our family ate here for a breakfast on a late summer busy weekend before we set out for a week of camping. We all loved in, including my young daughter. The food was quick, tasty, and of course filling since its all you can eat. It's not fancy food, but decent-good quality country American food for a great price. The other reviewers have listed the food and that's it. There is no menu for breakfast as the greeter repeats the list to new diners as they come in. No other surprises. I like that its still table service family style, so less food is wasted and strangers don't breathe on your food, but you can still have all you want. The atmosphere is fun and great for kids. The service is great and quick. They bring out hot coffee and yummy fresh donuts right away. We also bought some baked cinnamon bread & wheat bread from the bakery counter in the front to take home. Both were delicious at a great price. We would definitely go back the next time we are in the area.

A great breakfast spot! Served family style and all you can eat. Biscuits & gravy, pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, kielbasa, ham, home style potatoes and beverages (milk, juice, coffee...) And of course warm, fresh sugared donuts are all included. They serve a ton of people and have a big dining room. A good price too. You can purchase bakery items to take home and they have a big gift shop.

So far, not impressed. Service is super slow (understaffed), and the first set of dishes were dirty when I sat down. Every thing is served "family style" all you can eat but very stingy portions. More food comes very fast when I ask for it, but good luck locating a server to ask for food. Coffee is included but soda costs extra. Food is good but it's just eggs (no flavor at all to the eggs), sausage, ham, potatoes (seasoned and pretty good) and pancakes. Hard to mess that up. I didn't try the biscuits and gravy but I hear they are good. The appearance and atmosphere of the restaurant were very nice (old fashioned log cabin style). For all the local hype this place receives, I was extremely disappointed. Baked goods were good (donuts, bread).

I can't review this place. Seems like they are never open. We finally showed up when we thought they were, there were a lot of vehicles in the parking lot. It was 7:43 pm on a Thursday we walked in and they told us they stop serving at 7:30 PM. Are you effing kidding me???? So needless to say I give up on this place. Never once got to try their food after 4 attempts. I give up trying.

We went to the lumbar jack all-you-can-eat dinner on a Sunday. The price is very affordable. The food was pretty bad. The pork was the consistency of rubber. The fried chicken was okay. If I'm going to eat unhealthy food, I at least want it to taste good.

  • Ryan A.

Food was just sub par. We were a party of 12, they couldn't figure out where to seat us and ended up having to sit at two different tables

We stopped for breakfast on Sunday after a week in Bayfield. We were reminiscing about the last time we had gone to a Paul Bunyans in the Dells. We enjoyed that very well and decided to stop here. Price was $23.00 for the two of us. The server brought out 2 small sugared donuts, not the big iced doughnuts we were used to in previous Paul Bunyans. Then she brought scrambled eggs, sausage links, ham slices, pancakes and French toast with potatoes. We thought the eggs were overdone and not at all fluffy. The sausage links were very greasy but had a good taste. The ham tasty. The pancakes and French toast were gummy and had an off taste. The potatoes were slightly oily and not crisp. We were slightly disappointed with the meal but left our tip and went on our way. Next time, maybe Perkins would be more welcoming.

  • Devina M.

Horrible. Food is prepared in bulk to serve masses. The only good thing about this place is their amazing gift shop ;)

    (1)
  • Krista M.

The food is fantastic! The hours are weird, though. They're open for breakfast and then from noon to 2:30 for lunch and that's it. My husband opted for the family meal (all you can eat) and I got a hamburger. The server was friendly and attentive. There are signs all over the dining room about tipping and a clothespin on the table for you to place a tip. It seemed tacky. Are there that many people who don't tip? Anyway, the bakery is amazing. We got sugar donuts, bismarks and Bavarian cream long johns and they were all phenomenal. The gift shop is great fun, too. So glad we went. It was a really fun experience.

It's the "kitch" factor which makes this place sort of a "must eat at" restaurant when you're up North. You can't miss this place from the road with the gigantic Paul Bunyan and Babe. On the inside it is decorated with what I define as "working men" tools. So saws, canteens and the like are propped up along the log-like wall. Depending on who you bring with here, you can make this place lose money (so to speak). Food is served family style with unlimited refills of the dishes. Eat what you can though; you aren't allowed to take any leftovers home. That being said, the food is not a mind blowing experience.

    (3)
  • Curt C.

Food was good but not for the price. Waitress was not the nicest and was never around. A lot of please tip signs. Probably will not return

Well, I'm biased, but I love it. My mother (70-ish years old) waited tables here when she was in high school. It's been around a long time. :) Not much has changed with the AYCE menu - piles of pancakes and sausages, even bowls of applesauce (I think). I don't know if they still "recycle" food between tables as they used to. But whatevs. Big-ass breakfasts, hooray! Have not been for the fish fry, but I'm sure it's similarly gluttonous. The gift shop is full of overpriced Made in China Northwoods-y crap. But to be honest, much of it would look cute in a cabin. Watch for end-of-season sales. The best thing is the sign out front, which I'm quite sure hasn't changed much, if at all, since the restaurant's incarnation. *Btw, there used to be a great "big slide" next to PB's, where McDonald's now is. Made of metal, painted white and red... you'd pay for 30 minutes of sliding time, grab a burlap sack and sheet of waxed paper, and go! Those were the days.

  • Joanna T.

Oh, Paul Bunyans....you make me feel 8 years old again. That's because literally nothing has changed since I was a kid, and that's a LONG time ago people! It even smells the same (kind of musty). So, I've never eaten anything other than breakfast here. It's AYCE and a really big spread. You sit at big shared tables and everything is family style (within your party, you don't have to share with strangers 'cause that would be weird). The donuts are unbelievably delicious - worth the price of admission for sure. Everything else? As my husband puts it "everything else kind of tastes like maple syrup". He's right. Of course, there's the obligatory gift shop where one can buy oversized novelty lollipops, crap made out of cedar, "up north" themed signs, t-shirts extolling ones love for bass boats...you get the drill. Donuts aside, the food is pretty average but there's a ton of it. You know you're going to stop anyway - it's a tradition, right?

  • Heather H.

It's a long drive from Chicago to Minocqua, where I got to hear all about Paul Bunyan's cook shanty. The wonders of Paul Bunyan and Blue Ox. 5 HOURS OF PAUL BUNYAN. Did I mention my husband is 42? He admitted upon entering that it looks different 30 years later, even though not much was done to change it. But as one ages and matures, the nostalgia wears off a little. Food really isn't that great. The pancakes were burnt and the potatoes raw, but at $9.99 for all you can eat you can't complain. After all, it is the memories of simpler time you're here for. And the hilarity. Would I come again? Hell yes! In a heartbeat. But I'd bring my own coffee.

Great place to take the kids while up north. Kids loved the meals, both breakfast and dinner. As a mom and adult, here is the breakdown: Food is served family style and does include as many refills as you would like. The chicken was good, but lacked enough white meat each plate brought to us. The sides were just ok. Mashed potatoes, corn The bread is fresh and delicious Pasta nothing special Kids loved the ribs and chicken If you have to pick between breakfast or dinner, it is a toss up. Breakfast was just ok. Pancakes, eggs, camp potatoes, bisq/sausage, ham etc. It was just average. Again, kids loved it. And, everyone loved the doughnuts! Help was short when we went for dinner and line out the door for breakfast. Service much better at breakfast. The store is fun, too. Lots of things to look at and purchase

  • Cynthia J.

It took forever to get a waitress to come to our table, took forever to get the drinks we ordered. The food was sub par - oven baked chicken. I went to the bathroom and almost fell on the floor - someone thought mopping meant pouring water on the floor, splashing it all over and then dumping floor cleaner on it. The service was very sub par. I've been here years ago and it was decent but it certainly has gone downhill recently. KFC has better food and that's scary.

  • Steve H.

Our first visit. Kids loved it; the endless family-style breakfast was good and filling. Spectacular: the sugar donuts, which are brought out first -- warm. light and crispy. Coffee was mediocre, but the blue enamelware camp mugs are fun (they also have ceramic mugs on the table). A lot of what you pay for here is food volume, service, and Northwoods ambiance, and this place scores well for those. Another buck would make it seem overpriced, though. Scrambled eggs were definitely on the soft and moist side, which is how I prefer them. Breakfast meats come on a small platter and were acceptable. The ham was the best of the lot, while the kielbasa was a bit fatty and the sausage links just OK, and they all swam in small puddle of water and fat, which will turn some folks off. Not impressed with the tiny biscuit I had; I ordered without gravy and it came a bit cool and lonesome on the plate. Not fluffy or flaky, and certainly not large and warm -- just kind of there. Dressed up with a piece of ham, it was on par with McDonald's or Hardee's for a breakfast biscuit, but in miniature. I'd make this a tradition just for the donuts, eggs, and the Curt's Table Spice you can put on your eggs or hash browns. Fun place. Prepare to wait a few minutes on busy summer weekends, but the line moves quickly. Big bonus: lots of other donuts and baked goods (cranberry cinnamon rolls and loaves, apple fritters, etc.) available out front.

  • Brian C.

Breakfast is actually your best bet here, it's generally greasy and fattening but the food is really quite good - even the biscuits and gravy are good and I could make a meal out of just the doughnuts. Lunch is a sit-down affair that requires you to order off a small menu and the sandwiches are fine but I wouldn't waste a lunch here again. Dinner is still the same beef ribs and fried chicken that they've had for the 35 years since I started going here but they're done fairly well and of course served with Northwoods potato pancakes, etc. Much better food than you get at most all-you-can-eat places, reasonable prices, and a unique "logging camp" atmosphere that kids especially love. The gift shop is not even worth visiting - certainly this is a tourist trap but the food really is pretty good. They cook a limited number of items and it's definitely not fine dining but ultimately Paul Buynan's is pretty tough to beat if you're looking for this type of food.

This was the first Paul Bunyan's Northwoods Restaurant my family had been to. We enjoyed this place on a Friday night. The setting was great, I felt like I was at grandmas table being served a homemade dinner. The value for the money was on par. If your in Minocqua check it out.

    (4)
  • Chris B.

If your up in the the Minocqua area- you gotta go at least once for breakfast here. In the logger camp style, it does a good job of making sure you are filled up before heading out for a day of logging- or just cruising in the pontoon. Love the sugar doughnuts! and the biscuits and gravy are pretty darn tasty. The gift shop is a great way to stock up on muskellunge fridge magnets or nifty kiddy walking sticks. Pretty reasonable flat rate for the food and the coffee is plenty strong. It's part of the holiday tradition forus.

was on vacation with my family in Wisconsin and we already knew that Paul Bunyan's was a must!!! We got there about 2 hours after it opened and there was a line out the door to get in!! While we waited in line to get in we noticed they had added a huge statue of Paul Bunyan and Babe, so of course my family had to go take pictures, and by the time we were done we were ready to go in. They sure have the right idea on not having a menu and bringing all the food out to the table and just taking what you would like to eat. It really cuts down on the wait time for a table and for getting food. There was so much food included that you didnt even miss not looking at the menu to pick, we got pancakes, eggs, sausage, ham, donuts(OMG these were the best part), biscuits and gravy, hash browns, and polish sausage......pretty much if you left hungry it was your own fault!!!! they also offered juice, milk(regular and chocolate), coffee, and water. If your in the area this is a MUST GO!!!! and for $9.95 you cant beat it!!!

For a city and surrounding area that is drowning in the typical Wisconsin overpriced terrible food, this place is a godsend. Been here for breakfast and dinner a few times each and always left happy. Service is good, food is good, outstanding variety of food offerings, and the fact that it is all-you-can-eat and better tasting than anywhere in the area automatically bumps the whole place up to great. When we go on vacation every year to the area, this is one of our favorite stops.

    (5)
  • Joe T.

This is a northwoods icon. Warning: DO NOT EAT ANYTHING BEFORE COMING HERE! You get way too much food and you feel like you're wasting when you leave but the people are great, the food is great and the atmosphere is 100% up north. This is a mandatory stop for us when we visit the area.

    (4)
  • Scott C.

Great breakfast stop. $9.95 for adults and around $0.67 per year for 2-12 year olds. All you can eat plus those wonderful sugar donuts. Make sure to ask for extra of anything you run out of. The ham and sausage are particularly delicious.

    (4)
  • Eric R.

Great homestyle food! The donuts are awesome, and the eggs and sausage tasty! Yes it's touristy, but the place is nicely done and the line moves fast. A fun, delicious experience in the north woods!

No trip to Northern Wisconsin is complete without a visit to Paul Bunyan's Cook Shanty. Yes, it actually says cook shanty on the sign out front and no, I don't have a picture to prove it. This place is like an amusement park. You pay ahead of time, get in line behind a swinging door and wait for someone to come get you. A large lumberjack-looking man hobbles to your table without saying a word as you take a seat at a long picnic bench. When finished, you can shop the attached store and pick up some books, signs or t-shirts describing 5 ways boats are better than women. Wisconsin really is another world and I love it. The cook shanty is decorated in standard Northwoods style. Moose heads, deer heads, tools, and other items are scattered around the wooden walls. Being in here simply put a smile on my face. Then come the doughnuts. All you can eat cinnamon sugar doughnuts quickly fill up your tin plate. Breakfast is also served family style which has scrambled eggs, sausages, hash browns, biscuits & gravy, and pancakes. This place is everything I was looking for and I can't wait to go back.

  • Randy G.

Almost every review here talks about breakfast. Well, I went there to check out the fish fry. For $12 it can't be beat. You get fried fish, poor man's lobster, chicken, pasta, potato pancakes, French fries, cole slaw, applesauce and fresh bread. We got there later than I had planned (1/2 hour before closing) which having worked in a restaurant I don't like to do but the waitress was very very friendly and checked on us often. Being all you can eat, I probably cleaned them out of fish for the day. Then to my surprise you even get desert!! I WILL be back!!

    (5)
  • Curtis S.

Paul Bunyan's has been a family tradition since I have been a young kid. My family usually makes it for breakfast one day then Diner on Friday night another night during the week we are up north. All I can say is you better come hungry. And when you go for breakfast, I suggest you eat at least 2 donuts, they are the best donuts I have ever had. I will make it simple by saying that all the food I have had is delicious, the eggs, french toast, pancakes, sausage, ham, sausage and I could go on is good old fattening food. Diner on Friday is fish and chicken with potato pancakes and all the other good fix-ins that go along. When we leave, we are uncomfortable. The overall appearance is awesome, it has that old Timmy look with a cool gift shop. There are items hanging on the wall, from the ceiling and just everywhere. My boys had a great time playing Ispy while eating there. Overall, it is a must go to place while visiting Minoqua.

  • Michael S.

NOTE: The 5 Star Rating is solely for the amazing breakfast, the dinner would probably only be a 3. Ahhh Paul Bunyan's Cook Shanty. You can't miss this place driving through Minocqua on US Route 51. Seriously the sign is flipping big. That said the place has a very northwoods lumberjack feeling, probably because of the shanty's namesake. The food is served family style, all you can eat, which is good if you are hungry. The downside is that it can be a bit on the pricier side, but you can get as much food you want. The dinners are ok, the usual Friday Night Fish Fry, ribs and fried chicken. Not much to write home about, but what you should definitely send a postcard (with a picture of this restaurant of course, they are sold in the uber touristy gift shop) to your loved ones about the amazing breakfast. Get here early, because there WILL be a line, if not out the door. And it's for a good reason too. The pancakes are fantastic, perhaps the best this side of St. Alfonzo's (you don't have to steal the margarine at Paul Bunyan's, they have plenty of butter for you to use) They also have some other breakfast standards such as scrambled eggs and sausages which are pretty damn good too. But the star may be their warm, fresh from the oven, sugar donuts. Oh man those are good. I can't think of a better way to start the day. After you gain 10 pounds from breakfast, you can pick up something for your family back hom in the gift shop and take home a giant cookie for dessert. Highly recommended if you want a good Northwoods breakfast and have a family with young kids. It's just not a trip up north with out a hearty lumberjack breakfast!

    (5)
  • Gina D.

This is just one of those "must do" things if you find yourself in northern Wisconsin. Yes, the place is touristy (especially the gift shop), but for $8.99 per person you can have yourself a decent breakfast (donuts, scrambled eggs, homestyle potatoes, biscuits and gravy, and a platter of breakfast meats) and as much of each item as you want. Warning: they bring you the donuts first. Restrain yourself from eating more than one while you wait for the rest of the food to arrive because these sugar n' cinnamon treats are filling. Another warning: the coffee is not that good -- very weak and barely warm -- and don't expect a full variety beverage menu (i.e. no hot chocolate) -- just water, coffee, apple and orange juice. A "bar maid" did, however, stop by and offer us a bloody mary (separate charge). Finally, make sure to request from your server the "Babe The Blue Ox" adjustable paper hats -- for both the young and the young-at-heart. Great, goofy photo op! Paul Bunyan's serves lunch and dinner, too, but the breakfast is what made this place famous. Don't forget your plaid shirt!

    (4)
  • Todd H.

Not Bad...tourist trap yes, but the food (breakfast) was decent. The service however, was not decent. The waitress seemed nice enough but forget several items and by the time they had brought them... we were done with breakfast. What ever you do, don't order alcoholic drinks, they are rot-gut and nasty and overpriced. The food was o.k... kids will like it... go once and call it quit's!

    (2)
  • Jeff R.

I love Paul Bunyan! My parent's took me once as a kid for the 'big cookie'. I try to go once on almost each trip 'up north'. Kids love it too. Breakfast is much better than lunch or dinner. I recommend breakfast very highly.

  • Dave S.

Wow I wish I found myself in northern WI a little more often than I do just to eat breakfast here. I love me some breakfast and the AYCE here is the best! I love the sugar donuts, eggs, sausage, hash browns, etc... Did I mention AYCE? The dinners here are OK nothing to write home about but decent. The ribs are pretty darn good. Yes this place is a little more expensive than most places and the atmosphere is a touristy lumberjack cook shanty. The way I eat I always get my money's worth. They have another location in Wisconsin Dells which is even more touristy. One of the main differences is that this location serves cocktails. Nothing like a drunk lumberjack swinging an ax. Can you say decapitation boys and girls. Anyway, I digress but did I mention that it was AYCE? I didn't; want to forget.

  • Leanne V.

i dream of paul bunyan breakfasts... the cinnamon donuts! the scramby eggs! the maple sausage! the piping hot java! all served to you by a 17 year old in lumberjack duds on traditional camp-style tin plates. and it's all you can eat. here's a trick if your little one refuses to eat, because as we know, even in the most joyous of places, kids get crabby. do what my mother did. first, sit at a table under a skylight. then, instill nightmare-spawning fear in your child by casually mentioning that babe the blue ox (from the giant 2-story sign outside) is peering down upon them and will do god knows what unless those eggs get eaten. it works. trust me.

    (5)
  • Andy G.

This tourist trap is exactly what I expected. It is fun to go here once a year. If you have kids you must take them here. The food is good but nothing special. They do a really good job of getting people in and out of here without making you feel rushed. This is nice because you want to do other things on your vacation and you won't spend half the morning having breakfast.

    (3)
  • Christopher S.

We love hitting Paul Bunyan's everytime we come up to Minocqua (at least 3 times a year). The food is good and the staff friendly. The donuts are the best! Have only been there for breakfast, but would like to try their dinner sometime too.

    (5)
  • T. M. G.

Try to pace yourself. The food is mediocre at best, and you need to save room for one of those incredible molasses cookies.- I saw you eyeballing them.

Don't listen to the criticism, just go here. It is like nowhere else on the planet. I tried to drag my family there every day of our vacations, 2 years in a row. Sadly last summer I wasn't allowed to eat sugar, but I'll be back this year for the donuts. The gift shop is fun too. I never tried the dinner though, I didn't hear such great things about it.

Don't be put off by the name. This is a fun place for kids (and adults too). The food is not fancy but it is tasty and there is plenty of it. Everything is served family style. The wait staff is outstanding - friendly, efficient and genuinely nice. We went for an early dinner and had the choice of a family style all-you-can-eat meal or a la carte. We ordered a steak and a walleye dish. Both were fresh and tasty. The sides were good too.

Super touristy place. Often times you will wait in line for a table or seat on the benches. For a flat price, you get served either the breakfast, lunch or dinner selection family style on your table, all you can eat. It's a pretty large building so there is lots of seating and the line moves pretty fast. The food is like buffet style food brought to your table but on average, it's pretty good. The breakfast is probably the best in my opinion. Big gift shop there also and you can buy pastries to go. This place is fun for groups and kids generally love it. paulbunyans.com

Recommended by many of my relatives, but there's a reason that I think of them as *that* side of the family. On the positive side, the donuts were very good...light, fluffy, hot and delicious. The pancakes were also perfectly fine, and the potatoes tasty if somewhat greasy. However the biscuits and gravy were bland, the eggs overcooked, and the sausages wan and boiled. And unless you're a lumberjack, or planning to stuff yourself like one, $10 is not a good price for a mediocre, diner-style breakfast.

One of the best restaurants in the Dells area. It has been there for decades and is head and shoulders above the chain-store eating options.
