My husband I stayed at the Schuster Mansion for two nights for our yearly ballpark trip. We chose to stay at the mansion over the larger chain hotels because of its proximity to Miller Park as well as its proximity to Miller Brewing Company, which was one of the tours we had on our agenda in Milwaukee. In addition, we chose to stay at a B & B because of the included breakfast as well as the more personal feel of it all. We arrived unexpectedly early after our flight into Chicago O'Hare and were able to park our rental car in the lot behind the home while we waited for check-in time. During our wait we walked to the downtown area. It was a bit of a hike...maybe 25 to 30 blocks, but nothing that wasn't doable. In between the mansion and Marquette University, the area was a little rough, but nothing that we haven't seen in some other cities we visited. On our walk we toured the Pabst Mansion which is a dozen or so blocks away and a cool little stop in Milwaukee. We stayed in the Prairie Sky room on the top floor of the mansion. It was such a cute/quaint little room and we loved that there was a TV/DVD player in the room. The shared bathroom, with its clawfoot tub, was just beautiful. The entire home is filled with Victorian antiques and decor and Linda Sue (the owner) gave her unique artistic touches to everything in the beautiful old mansion. Our breakfast (which we were given several options) was absolutely delicious! We truly enjoyed talking with Linda Sue and other guests during our stay and that is what makes B&Bs so much more appealing the larger chain hotels...we loved all the personal and friendly touches!! Isaac, the dog, was a friendly little face that greeted us in the mornings and we loved having a little pup to pet while we were away from ours. Also, there is self serve coffee available at all times as well as a jar of absolutely fabulous homemade chocolate chip cookies that you can grab whenever you want and have as many as you want. All in all, we loved our stay at this mansion and if we ever find ourselves back in the Milwaukee area we will definitely choose to stay at the mansion!!!!

My mom and I opted for a B and B over hotels when we stayed the night in Milwaukee. Beautiful, beautiful mansion! Slightly sketchy neighborhood, but the mansion provides a fairly secure parking lot. Our housemate sharing our bathroom left it a bit of a mess, but otherwise the room and accommodations were great! Being on the third floor, we had a lot of stairs to our room, the Lone Star. It was a good reminder to learn to pack lighter! The breakfast was great, and the dining room was beautiful. Wonderful hostess and host! I would definitely recommend staying here! If you're interested in the mansion but live in the area, they offer a high tea on the weekends!

Like others have mentioned, the neighborhood is a bit sketchy, but the mansion was beautiful. Hotels can be impersonal, but I found that a B&B can be a bit too personal for my taste. It was my boyfriend and my first time at a B&B a several months ago. Kenny O. liked it, but I guess I'm even more of an introvert than I had originally thought. I had no idea that it was common for guests to share a bathroom at a B&B. Luckily the boyfriend knew that I'd be uncomfortable sharing a bathroom with other people, so he opted for the Pias Suite which gave us our own private bathroom. The owners, Rick and Laura Sue, were very nice to us. Kenny and I arrived in Milwaukee around 930pm on a Thursday, and Rick stayed up to let us in. It was probably a good thing that we called to make sure they knew we were still coming. We scheduled our breakfast time at 8am and selected what we wanted. The food was good, but the portions were a bit large for me and I felt bad not being able to finish off my plate. Rick was okay with it. The night we came in, Rick told us that it'd be okay for us to get in late at the B&B, and we were glad for that because we weren't sure if there was a curfew at B&Bs. Luckily at Schuster's, there isn't one. We went out to the city for a late dinner and came back around midnight. The Pias Suite is located on the second floor of the mansion next to a good-sized collection of DVDs for customers to take back to their rooms. The suite opened up to a nice, little sitting room. There's a door leading to the bathroom and bedroom. It was like having our own little apartment within the mansion. It was quite nice. I loved the warm decor. Everything was very beautiful in both our rooms and the mansion in general. Rick and Laura Sue did a great job at preserving the historical look of the mansion. As warm as the decor was, the temperature (not the climate) felt very cold in our room. I tried pulling down the blinds on the windows to see if that'd help. It didn't. In fact, the blinds didn't even go all the way down. Our windows faces the free parking provided to guests at the mansion, and I felt a little awkward that people can see into our room at night. One of the windows also had the plastic sheet that was supposed to keep out the cold, but I didn't feel it helped. The room was freezing cold unless I sat on the bed. It was possibly the warmest spot in the entire suite, which was fine but I didn't like that I felt confined to it. Our very attentive host, Laura Sue asked every morning if everything was okay with our room, and well, everything was fine except for the temperature. I didn't even really mind that most of the beautifully decorated pillows were not so comfortable on my face (I sleep on my back but I have a tendency to roll around). I'm just glad that I found at least one of which that was comfortable enough to lay on at night. The others were either too velvety or too lacy. It didn't bother me too much. And usually by morning, I had forgotten all about the cold and the pillows after having laid in a warm and cozy bed with my boyfriend's arms around me. I felt like the building was designed for especially tall people. The bed was a little too tall for me. It was as if Rick and Laura Sue knew that the bed was too tall too because I noticed that there was a step ladder next to the bed. It amused me a little, but as I'd prefer to sleep away from the door, it didn't help much. I was able to climb into bed, but I'd have felt embarrassed if someone other than Kenny saw me struggle with the bed. Some of the light fixtures were also too tall for me to reach. I'm talking about the one in the closet closest to my side of the bed, away from the door. I ended up having to ask Kenny for help several times. It was rather annoying. As a Buddhist, it felt a little odd to see Christian books in the bathroom by the toilet. I understand that Rick and Laura Sue are Christians, but it was still a bit disconcerting. You see, you wouldn't find this in a hotel. On the same weekend though, I was almost pretty certain there was a lesbian couple that stayed at the mansion, so at least it was comforting for me to see that they're not the gay-hating Christians. All in all, it was a pleasant experience and I'd be open to staying at a B&B again, but as a much more private person, it's not going to be my first preference.

My husband and I went up to Milwaukee for a Miller brewery tour and a Brewers game. We decided to try out this B&B for our one night stay. Upon arrival, you will notice that the neighborhood is a bit shady (I have to mention it, because it is the first thing you will notice), but really nothing to be concerned about. You park your car on the property (if that's a concern), and the inn keepers tell me that they have never had any issues with the residents of this community (which is a historical district with many beautiful mansions in the area). A quick 5-15 minute car ride to miller park, and the brewery, downtown attractions, etc. everything is close. We were welcomed by Laura Sue and Rick, the inn keepers, that live in the home. We got a thorough, informative tour of the mansion. We got to choose our breakfast meal of choice. We even got to peek into their private quarters, which occupies the ballroom of earlier years. They have a dog, named Isaac and a kitty, named Winston. Both are very friendly and we found ourselves looking for them throughout our stay. Isaac made his way into our room (if you leave your door open, he will come) and hung out with us for a bit. Not a nuisance, but very sweet & playful. He's always up for a game of fetch as long as you're willing to toss the ball. This home was purchased by the inn keepers in 2008 from a family that used it as a private residence, and the owners have been doing all their own renovations ever since! Rick was still outside working when we arrived home from our baseball game. Talk about dedication; very respectable. We heard lots of fun facts about the house. You will too, just ask! They have big plans for the home, both interior and exterior, that will take quite a while to complete. This includes adding a garden and large deck off the Library. That would have been nice during our stay, along with an adult beverage and a cigar. We stayed in the Pias Suite. A lovely sitting room awaits as you open the door to your little piece of this cozy home, followed by a short hallway with a nice bath and your sleeping quarters. A wonderful queen size canopy bed, pretty linens/fabrics, candelabras, various antiques, beautiful woodwork and lace fill your senses with all that was the Victorian era. The mansion was built in 1891. The kitchen is private to the owners, but you are welcome to use the fridge for leftovers and you can make hot coffee or tea in the Butler's Pantry. Breakfast is made when you want it (between 7-10am), and served where you want to eat it - either in the dining room or in your own room, or breakfast in bed. We ate our tasty breakfast and popped in a movie from their decent DVD selection. Check out was 11am. They do not serve lunch or dinner. I did notice that they will make you a simple sandwich lunch for an addtl cost, if need be. Free bottled water in the white refrigerator. They do offer shuttle service to and from Miller Park for $5/each way. Check in's at 4pm. Great alternative to a chain hotel, any day. I love feeling like I'm staying at a friend's house where there's always fresh choc chip cookies waiting!

First I can't believe there are only 4 reviews for this place. Come on people your truly missing out on nice weekend getaway to Milwaukee. I know I can't believe that came out of my mouth but hey if you want a nice cheap vacation/stay-cation why not head up north. Enough on that tangent. This B&B is an excellent alternative to your run of the mill hotels. If you're a fan of the B&B then you'll love it, and if you're like me and never stayed in one, well then you will just fall in love with the concept. Laura and Rick are extremely welcoming and they make it a point for your stay to feel like home. The place is so amazing it's hard to believe that every piece of furniture and nicknack was bought by them. Everything in there feels like it should be there. As mentioned by Susan's review the first thing you do notice is the neighborhood but just to reinforce the issue it was perfectly safe. The room rates vary on the type of room you get but they do offer three different rates: Premium, Standard, and Economy. Feel free to call them and ask them the difference. I know for sure that the Standard comes with breakfast in the morning. All of which is freshly made that morning, and you get to choose the time you'd like to eat. Side notes: If you have dog allergies then there might be some issues but Isaac is super friendly at it appears that they keep him out of the rooms. DVD's are available for a late night movie when you get back Free Wi-Fi

My husband and I stayed at Schuster Mansion for a weekend away, and it was exactly what we needed. The owners are extremely friendly and accommodating; they had lots of great ideas about how to spend our time in Milwaukee, they were enthusiastic without being overbearing, and when we decided to spend an evening watching a movie, a bowl of popcorn and two cans of soda magically showed up outside our door. We stayed in Pias Suite, which was beautiful, and totally private. The rest of the house was equally lovely and quirky, and the location is only a few minutes away from the fun stuff downtown. Finally, the breakfast was amazing. We got to choose what we wanted and at what time we wanted to eat. The french toast casserole is highly recommended!

We went to Milwaukee to see our Cubs play in the Brewer's home stadium, Miller Park. (aka "Wrigley North") We booked a room and our hosts Laura & Rick were extremely nice and personable. They shuttled us to and from the game when most B&Bs don't even have a shuttle service. The breakfast was super elegant and had a choice of 3 entrees. We took a tour of the mansion and really was impressive. The place was built in 1891 and really had a museum feel to it, but had everything you needed. I would definitely return to stay overnight again in Milwaukee. A way better value and a nice change from staying at a hotel chain.

I had a 1 night reservation on May 14 at Schuster for a business trip to Milwaukee. Due to my flight into O'Hare being cancelled on May 13 (as were all flights into both Chicago airports due to a fire at the control tower) and my rebooked flight was to arrive late in the evening of May 14, I decided to cancel my 2 day business trip to Milwaukee since I had already lost 1 of the 2 days of business. As soon as I found out on May 13 that my flight was cancelled, I called Schuster to cancel my reservation for the next night. The husband answered the phone and told me that he'd have to discuss this with his wife. The wife's verdict was NO REFUND, I'd be charged full price. They admitted that only 2 other rooms were occupied, so it's not as if they turned away any customers. Their offer of a reschedule within the next 2 months (but they'd charge me now) was not acceptable as this was a business trip and I didn't know when I'd return. That's their cancellation policy and they stuck to it. Airport closures are beyond my control, or anyone else's for that matter. Being that I was stuck with their room charge, I decided to go ahead with a 1 day business trip and I asked the airline to get me as close to Milwaukee as possible. The airline flew me to Indianapolis (5 hour drive from Milwaukee). I landed in Indianapolis at midnight, I rented a car and arrived in Chicago at 4am. I stayed with a friend until morning and then I continued my drive to Milwaukee. I was totally exhausted and I wouldn't have done that if it hadn't been for the folks at Schuster. And the Schuster folks didn't go out of their way. The entire stay was very strained. My friend and I were walking on eggshells as Laura had a real "attitude" from the moment we arrived until breakfast the next morning. To both of us. Very bad customer service before and during my stay. I'd NEVER stay there again. Incidentally, the neighborhood is VERY "sporty". There is nowhere to walk to eat or to go for a glass of wine. Even just walking around looks like it would not be advised.

So so experience; the mansion itself is very nice, gorgeous woodwork throughout. The owners are friendly (I think that should be a given of B&Bs though), the breakfast was yummy. We stayed in Richard's Den, which is a nice large room with an attached bath. The weather outside was in the 40-50 range, and it was a little on the chilly side in the room but there were plenty of covers to keep warm with at night. The neighborhood is a bit rougher than I am used to, unfortunately there was an incident with a neighbor requiring police involvement the weekend we were there (yes I understand the B&B can't control those circumstances) so that was a bit off putting. We asked for a 'fish fry' recommendation and basically got a response of 'fried fish is fried fish, what's the big deal'....

Laura Sue was extremely hospitable, and the breakfast was delicious! The room was very cozy as well. As other reviewers have noted, be aware that it is in a neighborhood known for being rough--of course not the owners' fault, but also something that guests should be aware of (no star deducted for this).

This place looks awesome from the outside, and Laura Sue greeted us with hospitality. She gave us a short tour and told us a little about the home and its history. We were a little disconcerted when we entered the kitchen and saw a sign that read "Jesus is the heart of this home." I don't have a problem with Jesus. Or Christians. However, Christians sometimes have a problem with gay people, which my lesbian partner and I obviously are. This was never an issue. We stayed for two nights. On the first morning, we came down for breakfast and the dining room was full, so Laura Sue made room for us to eat in the library. She sat down to eat with us, and we really liked her and her stories. Her husband Rick also popped in to tell us about the work he had done on the house. It's an awesome old house, and we really enjoyed learning about it. We also ate with Laura Sue the next morning. Getting to know her and Rick made our stay more enjoyable. The room was wonderful, the food delicious, and the company delightful. I would definitely stay here again.

Stayed here in March 2013. Had a superb time! Stayed in the Prairie Sky room, it was comfortable and gorgeous, loved the rolling shades to accomodate sunlight & privacy as needed! Wonderful breakfast, gracious hosts. Will stay here again, already thinking of the next trip there.

Zipped into town for a show from Chi and figured I would do it a little different for the Mrs. Was pleasantly surprised to see a B&B offered at comparable cost to regular hotels. Three tiered pricing offered to meet your need. Hosts were friendly, house was lovely, room was cozy and quiet. Not sure what they had on the mattress under the sheet but it helped keep the bed toasty without being uncomfortably warm. We also did the breakfast. Have to give credit, the husband/owner had just wrenched his back that morning on a plumbing issue and was still up serving breakfast to his guests. I saw the surrounding neighborhood mentioned as a possible concern in other reviews. I can understand how that might concern some but I did not witness anything negative during my stay. The doors and keys can be a little tricky to navigate because they are old and unfamiliar. The corgi dog Isack is a sweetie and likes to play fetch.

It's the first time I've ever stayed in B&B and now my standards are high. Because this place is everything I thought B&B should be and even more. Owners are super sweet and accommodative. We've felt like a part of their family. Starting from the fact that they asked what time do we want to have our breakfast and gave us unique and delicious choices of food. Breakfast was very delicious, good coffee. The whole house is renovated with love and extreme attention to details. Even china we had our food on was in style with the rest of the place. Every corner of the house has unique details, pictures that has been restored, and furnished with antiques. It's obvious that owners put their heart and soul into this place. Maybe that's why it's so cozy and sweet. Even if you're not necessarily a fan of antiques or Victorian style in general - I think you still should experience this B&B. I know I would recommend it to all of my friends and family.
