About Applebee's
Applebee is an American full-service restaurant brand popularly known for its signature Riblets. Applebee was conceptualized in 1980 by Bill and TJ Palmer in Atlanta, Georgia. At first, the restaurant was named T.J. Applebee's RX for Edibles and Elixirs. After the concept was acquired by W.R. Grace and Company, the restaurant was renamed as Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar. Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.
Later in 2007, IHOP Corp. now known as DineEquity, Inc. acquired Applebee's and began their journey together to make Applebee's the world's largest full-service restaurant chain. Today, Applebee's serves at more than 1,830 locations worldwide. The Applebee's menu ranges from Appetizers and Salads to heavy meals consisting of ribs and steak. Although the trademark dish Riblets is a hot favorite among regular Applebee's dwellers, the restaurant also serves some amazing burgers, sandwiches, pasta, and salads.

I just moved in across the street, so I was really excited to take a few folks over to Pleasant Kafe and celebrate. The Pros: - Open early for coffee & breakfast @ a decent price - Patio is beautiful - $3 happy hour specials that are AHHMAZING. - Cheese boards are delish & huge. The Cons: - Staff is a little snooty patootie - Limited food menu Overall, will return and hope that the service attitude changes?

That being said everything is very good and get taken care of very well especially by the lady that prep the food. The coffee is very good! Sweets are yummy. The music oh mon Dieu is exceptionally beyond good :) I go there to study and I do spend couple of hours and I enjoy it :)

In honor of Valentine's day, let me take a nod from Elizabeth Barrett Browning and list the ways I love thee. 1. They took an old run down building that had been an eye sore sitting in disrepair, and instead of tearing it down, they rehabbed it into a coffee/wine/food shop. 2. The beer and wine selections are solid. 3. The espresso drinks are great, and if you are dining in, you get your drink in a nice mug. And if you really want to get cozy, you can snuggle up with one of their blankets hanging around. 4. The soup and sandwich of the day are always great (Mushroom Brie anyone?). 5. You can check what the soup/sandwich is on their website. 6. If you don't want a full meal, go for a bakery item or chacuterie board. 7. The baristas (if that's what you call them) are all friendly and welcoming.

I recently relocated to milwaukee and have been looking for a good coffee shop to work at. I work from home so it's important to find a place to get out to once a week. Love this place so far! Great atmosphere, steadily busy but not too much so that it's distracting. Good coffee and food! Employees are very friendly! Wifi works well! Also on street free parking is a huge bonus. Definitely will be coming back!
(5)Vivian H.
We love this place- simple menu but even item is done right. They have a great wine selection and a wonderful happy hour!
(5)Marian Q.
I've come here to study a few times and it's fast become one of my favorite study spots for a # of reasons: - Solid WiFi (no poor connections here) - The food is great- if you don't want the sandwich of the day they'll offer to make you something else and it'll be good - They have a happy hour ($3 wines and beers). They don't skimp on the wine either - They have these cute little red blankets draped over the backs of their chairs that you can use to keep you warm in the winter time - Every barista/bartender I've encountered has been incredibly friendly Now why didn't I give them 5 stars you ask? If you're there to study or have a quiet night, avoid happy hour time because they get pretty busy- which is great for them- bad for you. The place is all wood so it gets pretty loud in there. Otherwise though, I really like this place, too bad 4.75 stars isn't an option...

Really great. I stopped in here for a drink and light food (dessert) and it was very good. I especially liked the service and the atmosphere. When seated, it was like I had gone to door county and was in a small town coffee shop. The music was relaxing and quiet. It was just perfect. The service was fantastic. The server helped me choose the perfect beverage and food to go with it and warmly welcomed us when we first came in.

Great friendly service, happy to get you what you really want aka 4 shots of espresso... :-) Nice modern cafe

(Almost) first to review! I feel like I had been waiting for this place to open for-ev-er and had almost forgotten about it until i passed it on the way to work last week and saw the little "yes, were open" chalk board out in front. The feeling must be mutual because a man came in while I was waiting to say he just wanted to see if they were open and he'd be back with his wife. I stopped in on a Saturday morning while doing laundry nearby (most likely looking every bit like I was doing laundry after having just woken up.:) Inside...there's a bar at the barista area and one at the window. What surprised me was a whole nicely done up full dining area up a set of stairs that a barista was bringing full plates of breakfast sandwiches up to. I came for the coffee, however. They serve Valentine Coffee here--the carafes I saw had bering sea and the bali blends. Three sizes, the usual suspects- mochas, chais, lattes, etc. as well as several other more unusual items like a "cascara" which I'm told is more of a tea made from coffee beans and described as a poor man's coffee, and something called a "pleasant slap" (espresso?). You can get almond or soy milk substituted for .$60. I went with a large almond milk latte which for about $4.15, I thought was very reasonably priced and I really enjoyed it. They also serve wine (featured prominently in a bar overhead) and beer. I overheard that there closing time may be flexible to start depending on the number of customers in during the evening. It seems like it'll be a popular spot with all the nearby apartment dwellers. Look for the striped awnings and check it out!

Have been here twice, once for coffee and once for happy hour until 7pm--loved it! $3 wines (select) not sure about what else (can't help that I like wine!!). Cute little place with outdoor seating. Will definitely go back!
(4)Harry C.
Everything good you may have heard about Pleasant Kafe was certainly true this morning. The quiche was moist and wonderfully flavored. Great coffee, great musical offerings and hip atmosphere make this a must on your list!
(5)Mina B.
Such a cute spot! The staff is helpful and friendly. I have not tried any of their food options yet besides desserts, which were delicious. The drinks are also very good. The music and ambiance complete the experience so make sure to check this place out!
(4)Chris J.
Man I like this place. It is so not corporate like star bucks and it's so not grungy like fuel or brewed..and I do love both of you and to wait in line for 15 minutes at collectivo..for get that. It's really nice
(5)Steve S.
We enjoyed nice homey setting, background music, wifi, Italian Sausage, Broccoli Cheddar Cheese Soup, Chorizo Burrito, Mocha and Hot Chocolate. They did a great job with a major renovation/restoration of the Dentice Bros. building!
(4)Bridget G.
I was happy to hear that a small, local cafe had opened up near me but I wouldn't have known it if I hadn't been told. It's a pretty nondescript place and appears to have been a small home or something in the past. It is definitely a small, homey, and intimate environment, with the counter, a few tables, and a couple bars for seating on the lower floor and another cozy seating area a half floor up. It's a good alternative for someone who wants a less bustle-y place than a Starbucks or the jam-packed Colectivo on Lincoln Memorial. Though I didn't partake, I thought it was a nice option that they have a selection of wine and alcoholic drinks--something to set Pleasant Kafe apart. My coffee drink was good and I enjoyed my time here writing and getting distracted staring out the windows. I hope this little place can walk the line between being discovered enough to stay in business and hidden enough to avoid the crowds! I'll be back to support them and try the food next time.
(4)Laurie B.
Great atmosphere and warm and welcoming hospitality. Yummy food and coffee. Stop by soon and you won't be disappointed.
(4)Nancy K.
Update: Breakfast burritos very good and they automatically gave me a glass when I said it was "for here." :-). Stopped there for wine with the hubby a couple weeks ago- great Jazz on the stereo, lovely.
(5)Margaret F.
I've driven by Pleasant Kafe almost daily since they opened, but finally walked over today. Really cute interior with nice coffee and tea offerings. Food menu was limited, but varied enough for a range of tastes. Ordered a Caprese salad and a cup of white chicken chili. My friend had the curry chicken sandwich with the broccoli slaw. We both had coffee. Coffee was solid, and we both were happy with our food. We sat outside and enjoyed the weather, so I did not see the upper indoor seating area. From what I could see from the counter area it appeared well done. I will definitely be back to try other menu items, and a glass of wine!
(4)Bradley O.
Great addition to the neighborhood. Small but carefully picked wine selection and locally crafted beers. Tasty little selection of foods. Not to extensive yet but been told to look out for new items to be added. Really nice meat and cheese board. Good for a couple on a date, or just a splurge for yourself. Oh and free wifi to boot!
(4)Anthony C.
Love it. Great wine selection. Also a coffee shop. Cool jazzy music played over the sound system. Very spacious but not crowded. A really nice place to have a drink and relax.
(5)Katy K.
When this place first opened, I was so excited! I used to stop by on my way to work to grab a coffee but, they changed their hours and don't open till after I get to work so I just started going to the Starbucks up the street. I've eaten there a few times, but after finding out that all the food (including the soup) just comes in frozen, I was really turned off. I mean they could at least have homemade soup! Once when I was eating, an employee had to wake a guy who had been sleeping in a chair. I don't know if the guy was a customer or someone from the neighborhood or another employee, but he had a glass of wine with him, maybe he was over served, I don't know. The employee asked him to leave, but it might have been a better idea to call a cab for this guy. It was a very uncomfortable experience. After that, I just don't see a reason to go back.
(2)Kristina S.
This place is such a great find! Went with some girlfriends after work for a happy hour, we all had wine and shared the cheese plate and the meat and cheese plate. Everything was delicious, they give you generous samples of wine to taste if you'd like before you buy. Only thing that would have made this perfect would be some couches or cozier seating! The atmosphere is quaint and begging for a comfy couch and fireplace, a girl can dream!
(4)Ashley S.
Love this independent café. Everyone is friendly and they know how to make specialty coffees. A few tables upstairs to do work on the wifi. Good environment. I'll definitely be back.
(5)David R.
Great place for coffee and brunch! Convenient location and very reasonable prices. The breakfast burritos are delicious and the fact that they carry Sciortino's bakery items is a plus.
(5)Damien S.
Pleasant Kafe is a really great addition to the neighborhood. The interior is cozy and comfortable. My wife and I have ate there several times now and we're always suprised by how good the food is. The chorizo breakfast burritos are my favorite. We've also had a great turkey sandwich and the meat and cheese plate was terrific.
(4)Lauren R.
Great service whenever I go. Love the atmosphere. Can't wait wait to get my chai latte again!!
(5)Judy A.
Oh my! What a great addition to the neighborhood the Pleasant Kafe is. This building was an eyesore for at least the 6 years before the present owners bought it and transformed it with a beautiful restoration. It could easily fit in Chicago or New York. The style is modern and all the design choices dictate the style and comfort. I enjoyed a lunch of corn chowder soup that was delicious, and a ham, turkey and bacon pannini with tomato and lettuce. This was fresh and flavorful. I had regular coffee, though there were several other choices. This place was just bustling with people as though everyone in the neighborhood was just waiting for something like this to come along. They serve wine and beer too.

Wonderful cafe/bar, a new favorite in Milwaukee! I spent a couple hours here studying with sangria- very comfortable, great staff and a delicious drink! The background music was great for studying. I was looking for a place open a bit later, and was impressed by how charming Pleasant Kafe looked when I drove up. Parking took a couple minutes to figure out, but when I did, it was free street parking. Definitely looking forward to coming back to try coffee and food!

Love it. Great wine selection. Also a coffee shop. Cool jazzy music played over the sound system. Very spacious but not crowded. A really nice place to have a drink and relax.

Love this independent café. Everyone is friendly and they know how to make specialty coffees. A few tables upstairs to do work on the wifi. Good environment. I'll definitely be back.

Great place for coffee and brunch! Convenient location and very reasonable prices. The breakfast burritos are delicious and the fact that they carry Sciortino's bakery items is a plus.
