Greek Cuisine
Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.
Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.
For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. Greek cuisine not only tastes good but also help maintain your body in a natural way through healthy diet.

Stopped by here for lunch after visiting the Mitchell Park. Ordered the chicken kabob platter. Portions were generous. The food was alright, nothing amazing, a bit too bland. Wasn't as flavorful and some of the reviews say

Oakland Gyros was exactly what I expected it to be: reasonably priced, quite tasty, large portions of gyro meat and fries, smothered in delicious tzatziki. Cant really go wrong there.
(4)Adam J.
Can't go back. Bad attitudes, slow drive thru. Way downhill in the last 18 months.
(2)Julie Q.
Share the lamb gyro platter and order an extra pita--there is way too much gyro meat for one pita / person! The fries are nothing special. Restaurant is cute and clean.
(4)Amanda P.
This place tastes like home to me. Like a post-soccer practice dinner with the fam, coloring on gold-rimmed placemats and kicking my brother under the table. Order a gyro plate and plan to split it with a friend. Just be sure to get an extra pita. This is my version of soul food; nothing pretentious, warms the gut, leaves me feeling like it's time to go home, get some (home)work done and watch ER past bedtime.

This was the second time I've been to Oakland Gyros. Both times were for lunch after appointments in the area. The Layton and Howell area of Milwaukee by the airport at first glance is something of a wasteland. But look more closely and avoid the chains and check out the local joints including Oakland Gyros. The place is always busy and the prices cheap. The service can be a bit hot or miss, but I blame this on the unorganized customers in line to order. We had the Gyro Combo (fries and a soda) and the spinach pie. The gyro was huge - the spinach pie comes with choice of rice, Greek salad or fries. All this for 18 bucks and change. Companion said it was the best spinach pie aside from her Mom's and the rice was really good... But that it was way too much food for one person. Gyro and fries. Gyro was classic great flavor. Fries were thick cut, hot and crisp. I like that the yogurt sauce is on the table so you can add it as you like. Although I could just eat the yogurt sauce like soup. The challenge with Oakland is that all the traditional greek menu items look great - but I wouldn't want to miss out on the giant gyro. There are also burgers and a fish fry on the menu... and chicken tenders. If you bring your kids here,!force the traditional Greek food on them. Develop their palates - it's your obligation as a parent and to society.

Awesome gyro with unlimited sauce! Taste great and tons of veggies and meat! This place is welcoming and the staff is super friendly. The food came fast and they have a drive thru as well
(5)Jen T.
If you love gyros and leftovers, give Oakland Gyros a try. I recently ordered my Gyro - grilled or "well done" as they call it. Grilling the meat brings out the flavor even more. I usually order the Gyro salad. The meat portion is huge and allows for leftovers. It includes a piece of pita which is always fresh and warm. The greek salad is fresh and abundant in feta. Service is always efficient and friendly.
(4)Kate H.
As a first-timer, the menu can be confusing. The employee was not super helpful with the questions we had. However, let me tell you, the portions are ENORMOUS. If you order one of the platters, that is easily dinner for two. The food was delicious!! The ambiance is fast-food looking. But, the food is delicious!
(4)Clay K.
Food for the drunk or hungover with little resemblance to actual Greek food. This place shovels huge portions of corporate provided loaf Gyros to the drunk and hungover. If indeed that's what you're looking for this place is fine. If indeed you're looking for actual Greek cuisine, this is NOT the place.
(2)Erin D.
Was blown away after displaying some hesitation to go there. I love greek food but was not expecting to get impressed by fast food greek food. You get a TON of food here and..if you love feta...You get BIG chunks of feta. I had a greek salad and a gyro. One or the other would have been enough. Go there starving. Trust me. We ate in. The place was non stop busy and orders came out fast and complete. The MKE police seem to like it too. We saw two cruisers come thru while we were there. The counter staff was friendly and even said Thank you to us when our order was called. There are a ton of other places to eat along that stretch of Layton, don't pass this one up.

This place is an entirely different beast from the Oakland Gyros on the East Side. Whereas the other one feels a bit cramped and sometimes dirty, and is always filled with loud college kids, this is a family place. Space is plentiful, the place is quiet, and the restaurant is spotless. Atmospherically speaking, they're too totally different experiences. In terms of food, though, most of what can be said of the previous location can be said for here. Unlimited tzatziki for one, but also note the mounds of tasty gyro meat you'll get and the always fresh pitas. Personally, I go to both locations on and off because I live on the south side and work on the east side. While the original location will always be a place with lots of great memories attached to it, this location allows me to enjoy my food without having to squeeze by 100 other people to get to a table, so I slightly prefer this one.
(4)M R.
Easily the best gyros on the Southside... always made fresh and fast. Can't ask for more...
(4)Brandi W.
Went late night (9:37pm) since san dong was closed & I really wanted soup. My boyfriend ordered chili over rice which was tasteless & mostly beans. He asked the guy if it was sufficient & at his suggestion my.boyfriend ordered fries as well. I ordered the lemon soup & it was probably the worst I've had. Definitely too much rice & lemon. I asked the guy what size the soup was & he said we only have one size. Not a helpful answer since I wanted to know if I would be satisfied with just the soup. So I order the chicken shishkabob as well. The $18 price tag... Not worth it! The French fries with BBQ sauce was the saving grace

I have been and will continue to be a loyal customer. The Athenian chicken with salad is my go-to meal. Or meals- one dinner entree is enough to for 3 meals for me. The gyro platter overflows with meat so I normally ask for extra pitas. Service is wonderful (and fast!), excellent value and delicious food. What more could I ask for?
(5)Evelyn C.
I love this place. Great portions! The food is delicious. Very friendly staff and great prices!
(5)Abbey M.
The staff is friendly and helpful, the food is fantastic. Always order an extra pita bread for a gyro, they give very generous portions of meat. The entire place , even the kitchen is very clean. Love this place!
(5)Bruce K.
Another opportunity to let Yelp bring me to excellent food, the reviews of Oakland Gyros are spot on. Taking dinner back to the hotel... I went with the gyro platter, which came with a boat load of thin sliced lamb plus a half of a pita bread and on top of what must have been two pounds of salad. Admittedly, much of it was iceberg lettuce but the big chunks of feta cheese more than made up for it. For dessert, how could I resist a piece of delicious looking baklava. And it was. Sweet and flaky and a healthy dose of walnuts and honey. Maybe a bigger pita and more cheese? But then we're talking gluttony.
(4)Kelly K.
LOVE LOVE LOVE! Always large portions, friendly staff and great food! Dine in or drive thru is quick.
(5)Jeff T.
Not a single bad review and there has to be a reason. I've been coming here about once or twice a year for 13 years whenever I get to the Milwaukee airport. If you like gyros, this is about as good as it gets anywhere in the country. Yup...I'm a pilot and I eat everywhere, and this is my go to place when I'm here. Portions are big, price is good, and the gyros are great. Go here if you like gyros. Nothing more to say. Someday I may try something else, but the gyro platter is all I get because it is so good.
(5)Phu Phu G.
Convenient location, fast and friendly service, and the gyro is ohhhhhh so very yummy. Gigantic portion size, but if you can't finish, it's fantastic for snacking on later! Honestly, I stopped by here because it had such previous high yelp reviews. Great job, Yelpers! This place did not disappoint :)
(5)Joshua C.
Best gyros I've ever had. Great portion size.
(4)Thomas B.
Excellent chicken souvlaki! The chicken was perfectly grilled...amazingly tender and fresh! -1 because they lost my order and I had to ask once they passed my order number. Inside like a Denny's or equivalent. Greek salad looked good w big chunk of feta but I didn't have one. Very busy at lunch time. May stop here again when flying out.
(4)S T.
I have been here once before but I didn't review it, I remember just liking the gyro but forgot why. I was in the area and had to go back. This would be the drive through because I need to be some where. When you get handed the gyro sandwich only and the bag feels a bit heavy you know you in for something. If you like meat and lots of it this gyro is for you. It's piled so high you have to eat the meat that spills over the top of the pita just to get it down to a sandwich. I now remember what I liked about the gyro. The meat is not greasy like some and was not cut paper thin. The gyro meat is tasty and juicy, not dry like some places. The pita is not like other places because it's light and soft and doesn't get in the way of the meat and complements it. The standard tomatoes and onions were fresh but I didn't eat much of them because I was full from eating all the meat on top and barely got into the sandwich. The sauce came in a bigger container which was great but its not my favorite compared to other places which is ok. The sandwich was the star and I would say it's one of Milwaukee's best gyros for taste and bang for your buck. I have not ate at every gyro place in Milwaukee bit it's the biggest and the best so far. I got half way through and I was full, when full happens that's it and I don't force my self to finish so it will be enjoyed later. I don't live any where near them but it's worth the drive.

Great service!!! Ask for a well done giro suggested by the cook. I've been eating there for many years ago and always been satisfied with excellent food and service. . And for those who complaining about not having a Kids meal menu.... Teach your kids how to eat!!!! Simple as that. Duh. Hellooooo.
(5)Barry S.
Good food at a fair price. The gyro platter is a large portion for the price. Wish they had appetizer version of stuffed grape leaves.
(3)Frank S.
Had the gyro sandwich was thick cut very tasty could of used more onions and tomatoes. Portion of meat was very large. The pita was excellent and love they give you more than enough cucumber sauce. I would come here again when in Milwaukee
(4)Kevin H.
I'm here on business and was ready to find the nearest chain burrito restaurant that is a standard for my business travels. I decided to check yelp to see if there was anything good nearby . I'm glad I did. I had the gyro platter and it was big , fresh, and delicious. I would highly recommend this place.
(5)Jeremiah M.
Visiting my mother in Milwaukee has many benefits. One is Oakland Gyros, I make an effort to stop here every time I'm in Milwaukee. It's less than half a mile from MKE airport exit. I've been getting Oakland Gyros at least 7 years. They have remained delicious. The Gyros are FILLED with meat. So much that you could make a second sandwich.
(5)Eliezer P.
Oakland Gyros every time I go here I never leave hungry! The Gyro plate my favorite, I'm a big guy so I need that much food. It's fast Greek food and every time I go I'm never disappointed. Reasonable prices for the amount of food they give you and always clean when I eat inside.
(4)Matt T.
Great Gyro and Greek salad!!! HUGE portions...plenty for a full meal tonight. ..I.ll be back!
(5)Rick R.
I've dined at Oakland Gyros several times during my adulthood. Growing up in Riverwest, the original location often filled the gyro craving I would get from time to time. It sounds weird to refer to the Layton Ave location as Oakland Gyros, but since they have developed such a great rep, I get why they kept the name. I wouldn't change my name either. I've eaten gyros all over Milwaukee and parts of Waukesha and Racine. As far as I'm concerned, Oakland Gyros gyros are the best. Why do I love them so much, you ask? Well, it starts with the enormous pile of gyro meat stacked on to the pita bread that you can't see because there is so much gyro meat. You know it's there. You know you'll get to it eventually. You just have to be patient. BeeTeeDubs, I'm not patient. Then there's the enormous pile of gyro meat that they stack on the pita bread. I know I already mentioned it but you get so much I have to say it twice. Then there's the great flavor and texture of the gyro meat. I love watching it shaved from the - hmm, let's call it a gyro meat torso. I don't have to wonder if it came from a box in their grocer's freezer. Next are the fresh tomato slices and onions and the delicious tzatziki sauce. Some places give you a small 2 ounce side container, with plastic lid, of tzatziki sauce that is almost in a solid form from being frozen and not properly thawed. Oakland Gyros gives you a bottle of delicious and creamy tzatziki sauce. When you're done, simply return the bottle to them for the next customer to use. It's the honor system in one of its greatest forms. Anyway, I have a system that I use to tackle such a tall stack of gyro meat. I will cut the slices in half or fold them, picking them up one at a time, adding a bit of onion, then adding a bit of tomato, then pouring on a little tzatziki sauce and then inhaling said slice. I continue this method until I can now, not only see the pita, but am able to pick it up and fold it with remaining contents, add more tzatziki sauce and take slow bites to enjoy and savor, since I know I'm reaching the end of my gyro experience. Hmmm, soooo goooood. Thank you Oakland Gyros. It was fun. I had a great time. I'll call you.
(5)Jeff C.
I have been to numerous cities. Some have NO Greek places, some have very good places, but NOTHING compares to this gem!! The gyro meat is second to none and the shish-ka-bobs are out of this world. I was in Florida last winter and when I got back my first meal was here!!
(5)K V.
All around great food. Great burgers, gyros, poppers...you can order a pound of fresh fried steak if you're doing a low carb diet. I go here every time I visit Milwaukee, without fail. Sometimes twice in a day.
(5)K M.
Great Gyros. My son loves them and there huge. I am not a fan of lamb so I usually get the chicken or the spinach pie. Both great and the greek salad is awsome.
(5)Todd K.
Stopped here for a quick lunch before grabbing my flight home. Super fast and friendly service. Huge, huge portions. Ordered the gyro platter and was lucky to finish half of it! Massive amount of food. Good quality and great taste! I'll be back, I'll just order something smaller...

Oakland Gyros is on Oakland, but there is a location over by the Airport now - well it has been here a while and it has free wifi..... And now a story...... A long time ago there was a Greek boy named George (pronounced Your-Goes) and he ran through his village calling out "have you seen my goat" and as he ran down to the town square - an old man said to him "your goat has gone to America" and so George went to America to search for his goat and opened a Gyros place. He never found his goat or so it seemed. So, late at night George, now an old man would call out "have you seen my goat!" Ok, what does George and the Goat have to do with Oakland Gyros? Well, a Greek friend named George whose uncle George and Cousin George run a Gyros place in Skokie, IL told me Oakland Gyros was the best Gyros place in Milwaukee, but in order to get the reference I had to listen to the story about George and his goat. The Three Georges never take the short road. They always take the long road. And now a review...... Well, The 3 Georges told me about a place I had been going to since I was a teenager. I have been a fan of Oakland Gyros for over 25 years and can say that I had a Oakland Gyros T-shirt that I wore all over the world. One time in Rome, I met a couple from California who said "Hey Oakland Gyros dude!" and told me all about a visit to Milwaukee where they raved about Oakland Gyros. Yeah, this place rocks. Ok the food. I came here nearly every day when I was a vegetarian. I would order a Spinach Pie platter (back then it was about $5) and that would be my meal for the day. It is now about $7.50 - not bad considering inflation. It is still baked in advance, and warmed, but this is the best way to get a Spinach Pie. The flavor is amazing and the crust is crispy. I usually get the rice pilaf in sauce, but sometimes still go for the french fries and ask (you have to ask) for yogurt sauce. Yum. The Gyros are the big seller here. There is nothing crazy special about them. Big blocks of Gyros meat from the mega-vendor served in combos that are a very good deal. I wish there were more classic Greek meals, but they do a pretty good job and will sell you a brat, a char grilled burger, or a hot dog if you want it. Some things you might not expect to see: Frappe---a classic Greek iced coffee can be had here for a little over $2. That is pretty cool. I wonder if George ever found his goat? There is that goat that put the curse on the Chicago Cubs - perhaps the worst team in all of baseball. Perhaps that is the goat George was looking for? Or perhaps the goat found Oakland Gyros! If so, then good find Mr. Goat.

Holy crap, they really pile on the meat. I just happened upon this place driving down Layton and quick went through the drive through. I was not familiar with the menu and did not want to sit there like an idiot reading the whole dang menu so I just got a gyro. Got home and unwrapped the foil and I see a huge pile of meat. I removed probably half the meat to save for the next day, it was just too much. But that was not a problem. What I did not like was that they only gave me two very small wimpy tomato slices. It may be because I was the only one there at the time so maybe they did not want to cut up another tomato? I needed something to go with all that meat! And the pita seemed too small for such a huge amount of meat. But the meat was good and I loved the sauce and they gave a nice good sized portion of it. So I had some for my leftovers the next day. I also added cucumbers to my homemade leftovers sandwich with tomatoes and sauce. If you have never had a gyro with cucumbers I highly recommend it. I would definitely go back and maybe try some of their other stuff. So In closing, if you like a A TON of meat on your gyro you would love this place.

Gyro my hero! I may not be traveling to Greece but when I do get on a plane at General Mitchell I will be carrying concealed gyro sandwich and fries inside of me. OH Geeez, now this is another review that I'm sure I wrote before for OG. I wonder if it got filtered or censored out because of profanity or what ever!!!!! So here I go again. I like to call this place General Mitchell Gyros. Since it is close to the airport, its a go to place when departing or landing. Since its on the way. I may not always think of air travel but when I do... It involves a big greasy distended belly full of Layton Gyros and fries. Service is quick restaurant is bright happy cleaner. They also have a drive through if you must stay in the car. I still chuckle when I hear the name because its just not the original East side location but it Oakland style. Without the drama and drunks. If I'm ever seen here after 12:00 remind me to walk home since my judgment got me to the wrong place. And by the time I get home I can ask....Dude wheres my truck?
(4)Anthony M.
I needed some lunch and everything around here was coming up 3.5 stars or less. Not what I was looking for! Then I saw Oakland Gyros with 4.5 stars and thought that sounds good. As I pulled into the parking lot, I could see the inside of the restaurant was packed. Then I saw a drive-thru...yes a drive-thru for Greek Food! I figured you only live once!!! So I pulled up and ordered a Gyro with no onions. Then I drove around to pay and the girl handed me my sandwich. My first thought was...'this sandwich is going to be terrible'. I have never gotten my Greek food in under 10 seconds. So I pulled over to eat and I opened up a master piece of meat wrapped in a pita. In fact, there was so much meat I could hardly see the pita. One nice touch...they put the sauce on the side. Smart move on there part because they did not want the pita to get soggy. I could hardly pick it up. I had to eat a few layers of meat off before attempting to lift it. The gyro was really good and if I actually lived closer, I would eat here once a week. The price was also great... $4.99 for a Gyro is a deal. So I learned today that there is such a thing as fast food Gree drive thru food! I wonder if they would serve me some flaming cheese in my car? That would be exciting!!!
(5)Joe C.
Hands down the best gyros in town! The cucumber sauce is second to none and have never had bad service. Both locations are great! I usually go to airport location because they have a parking lot.
(5)Mark G.
The food was excellent, the place clean and the staff friendly. The portions were, in my opinion, too big. I had a gyro sandwich that was too big to eat normally and a "side salad" that could have fed two. I would recommend this place and come back.
(4)Charlotte C.
The best gyro ive ever had never dissapointed and portions are beyond enough ill deff come back !
(5)Brian M.
Why do you do this to me!!! I am trying to be good, I really am. My Doctor says that it's not what I eat that is causing my weight gain, it's how much I eat. How can I control my portion size with two Oakland Gyros in my life!!??? Although I realize that the East Side location is the original, I prefer this location for it's cleanliness, drive-thru, easy of parking, and lack of East Side bums. Although, I will admit that the people watching possibilities at the Oakland Ave. location are practically endless though.. Why do people come here? For the Gyros, of course. I once thought I would eat something a bit "healthier", so I ordered the Chicken Shishkabab. It consisted of huge pieces of succulent white breast meat from a chicken that must have looked a lot like Dolly Parton, if you know what I mean. It was good, don't get me wrong, but I regretted not ordering a gyro. My wife's comment to me was "It's called 'Oakland Gyros' dummy, not 'Oakland Chicken Shishkababs'." Truer words have never been spoken.
(4)Steve G.
This is my favorite gyro place in Milwaukee! Also, the musaka and spinach pie are also really great, make sure you try everything as the food will keep you coming back for more!
(5)Joanna T.
I think I actually like this location better than the one on the east side, though the staff there is friendlier. Here, there's tons of easy parking, a big & clean dining room and the same food as the original location. The gyros are among the best in town (my personal fave is Cosmos) and the portions are incredibly huge. Get an extra pita for $1 and you have two meals. The have burgers and other food but we never order them...it's called Oakland GYROS for good reason.
(4)E R.
This place is the ultimate pig-out destination! I lived on the south side for a few years, and ate here quite a bit. Had lunch here the other day, and I fell in love all over again! I usually get the gyro platter with Greek salad or fries. This is probably the best tasting gyro I've ever had, and the fries/salads are awesome. Portion sizes are huge, prepare for leftovers. The burgers here are also really good, cooked to order on the grill. The grilled chicken version of the gyro (chicken shish kabob?) is a great alternative if you're not into the whole beef/lamb thing. Oh, and did I mention that they always give you a FULL, fresh squeeze bottle of tzatziki sauce when dining in? This is a nice fast-food restaurant that is well maintained and operated, nice and clean. Fast and friendly service, and nice prices too. A+ for this place!
(5)Gregg F.
Perhaps the best gyros around. Two locations, this one is the best. East side is the original, but it's cash only and parking sucks. Everything at both restaurantes is always made when you order it. Great food!! Excellent Gyros, Spinach pie, kabobs. I love this place, wish it was closer or they made one out west more!!
(5)Andre M.
This place has some good gyros! I don't think they make anything that is nasty? I only give if 4 stars, because they don't have kids meals, so I had to order there food separate and that shot the final price through the roof, then when we got our food, it was too much. So I'm not into wasting money and wasting food. If this place had a kids meal menu then I would raise my rating
(4)Christina K.
As everyone has alluded, the portions are freaking HUGE. I ordered the spinach pie meal with a salad and expected it to be an average portion, otherwise I prob would have just gotten the pie as a "side." I opened my take-out container and there is a pita on top of wax paper, with my spinach pie crushed into the salad to fit the box. Spinach pie phyllo was nice and crisp. The spinach part was fine. Maybe I'm not a huge spanikopita person, b/c I always find it somewhat lacking. It was just average - spinach, with visable feta and a pleasant texture. Salad was fresh, though an ordinary iceberg blend. Salad dressing was not good - I tossed it. The pita itself was a bit doughy. I was impressed by the sizable portion. I really could have had two meals out of that and it came out to less than $8. Milwaukee, while your food hasn't been excellent, I will say it is cheap. For the meat eaters though, perhaps you will enjoy more. Everyone in the place had gyro meat, falling off their plates and onto their trays. It did smell amazing.
(3)Jay Z.
I think this is best gyro spot. Anytime my wife I have test for gyro we skip all shop on the way to this place . We travel from downtown milwaukee to layton so go figure. Only complain I got is , when we order chicken they aren't cooked enough. just a hint, always order salad or fries on the side.
(4)Nana H.
I happened to be on the South side and I didn't want to go all the way to the East side location. I always order the steak shish kebab platter with fries. It seems like the portions for carryout is huge and prepare for some leftovers. I like this location because its close proximity the airport, downtown and the third ward. Its the same menu as the other location. Just found out that they have free wifi. It's on the busline-and only 20 mins from the Third Ward. I will be going back again for sure.
(5)Paul C.
My favourite place to eat quality, well priced food in milwaukee...I eat here every chance I get. Due to high volume the food is always fresh(at least when I get it). GYROS dinner with salad..just can't go wrong with that choice... the lamb leg is also very tasty. 5/5
(5)Tim W.
Had no idea what to expect, but was very impressed with the service. The lady who helped us was very knowledgeable about gluten issues and exactly what was in everything they served. The food was good, too.
(5)Lee S.
I love this place. The gyros are so yummy! And they are BIG! And a great price! If you are looking for great Greek food at a great price, this is the place!
(5)David L.
I've always enjoyed my meals here. Mousaka and Greek salad of course. Very consistent and the cleanest joint around. Fast food preparation makes it with me when i'm in a hurry. Lots of customers means it's good...right?
(5)Nicole J.
so good & such a generous portion I order one plate with an extra pita & it easily satisfies both my man & I. 5* service always.
(5)Jimmy L.
Good Gyro's and lots of it! You will not go away hungry!
(4)Grumpy S.
The gyros at Oakland can be summed up in one word. Delicious! The gyros platter with rice is more than any human being can eat, and at under $9.00 it's a bargain. The moussaka is also excellent. I'm told the burgers are also great but I doubt if I'll ever make it past the Greek food. You can eat in the dinning room or use their very fast drive through window. There are other great gyros places in town but I have found none that can come close for taste or value.
(5)Brad E.
It is clear that this place has a strong following. This place does not have only gyros, however, as someone who has ordered other items, stick to the gyros. They do the gyro right! I tried the chicken shish kabob and it was not very good. There was no seasoning and the meat was not trimmed, at all. There were huge knots of fat. The two tomato slices that they put on the sandwich had spots of rot, as plain as day. I would have like a little more quality control on the chicken. The fries were good and abundant. The price was very reasonable. The building is an old Arby's, however, they spruced it up with plants and outdoor dining.

The Oakland Gyros is a duplicate of the one on Oakland but guess what? It is better than the one on Oakland. I said it, loud and proud. The owner is so friendly, he will get you refills and bring your food to you. Their meat is never dry. It is always clean and has the best gyro meat in Milwaukee. The only way it could be better is if it weren't facing Layton avenue, which to me is a sore sight for the eyes...

THE BEST BEST BEST GREEK TAKE OUT PLACE! I am from MKE, but I currently live in NYC. Usually my first stop is at OGs. This place is better then its equivalent places in NYC. Food is always fresh and made quickly. The service is friendly. What more could you ask for? Little tip: Ask them to grill the gyro meat.

Best gyros in town! This location near the airport brings the renowned Greek cuisine of the east side to the south side. Regulars here for the delicious gyros and chicken shishkebab. Food is always fresh and flavorful. Not the cheapest for your Layton Ave. fare, but giant portions that can probably feed two normal sized human beings, or maybe one Wisconsinite. Bonus points for the drive-through, which is oh-so-convenient.

I wasn't expecting much but it is actually decent fast food. I got a chicken shish-kebab sandwich and there must have been an entire chicken on there. They definitely do not skimp on the portions. The meat had a nice char-grilled flavor. The pita was nice and soft and chewy. This is the best fast food around. There are some vegetarian options too, so your vegetarian girlfriend won't be too pissed off if you take her here.

This place rocks! We tried the Gyro, Chicken Kebob, Moussaka and Greek Salad - all delicious and huge portions for little money, especially the platters. Hamburgers are just so-so, but all the Greek dishes are the real deal. Great bang for the buck and friendly staff!

Amazing place. It looks like a former burger joint that has been redone in greek chic. Nice wall murals, nicely decorated, spotlessly clean (including the bathrooms--always a good tipoff to overall cleanliness). I was directed here by a local, and the yelp reviews substantiated her wisdom. You order at a counter, a la standard fast food fare. I ordered a chicken souvlaki platter, which came with large well-seasoned and perfectly cooked slices of roasted chicken, rice, salad with feta, soft delicious flat bread, and an entire container of cucumber sauce so that i could help myself to as much as i wanted (and it was good, so I wanted a lot). Food was delivered promptly to my table (unimaginably promptly given the quality and freshness). The portions were huge (could have easily fed 2-3 adults with the souvlaki platter). Everything was delicious. If I lived in Milwaukee, I'd be a fat girl indeed, because I'd need to come to Oakland Gyros on a weekly basis. Milwaukeeans, I envy you.

Definitely one of the best gyros I've ever had! Customer service was great even in the drive thru, haha the guy made us laugh. It was our first time and we'll definitely be back. It's a little expensive, but the portions are huge and the food is delicious, so it's worth it.

I thought best Greek food in Milwaukee would be like best Chinese in Cancun ...but wrong...really good and cheap...$12 filled me to overflowing with grape leave soup rice and tea....excellent and did I mention cheap??

Delicious Gyros for a very reasonable price. The meat was succulent with no skimping on the amount. The sauces they give were also quite tasty. Cucumber sauce is a must for any good gyro and Oakland Gyros did not disappoint. The fries were ok, nothing wonderful. A great place for a quick filling meal after landing at the airport.

Great food! Great service! Great drive-thru!

Great for when I feel like being a fatty fat fat fat. They always put more gyro meat on the sandwich than any other place in Milwaukee. The meat is always good. One sandwich and fat me is happy...

Horrible! I waited in drive through for a very long time come to find they forgot sone of my order that I paid for and the grape leaves were disgusting! My boyfriends gyro was decent, that was the only good thing. :(

I usually get the Greek salad when I order but I was feeling a little fatty face this day so I ordered the gyro combo insted. The order came out in a flash as usual. Man ohhhh man I couldn't wait to take the first bite of this masive sandwich. But first I had to take out some of the gyro meat so it would not overflow on me! Fries super crispy ! Live this place always come back. Staff is super nice too!

I've eaten here twice and their Gyros are pretty awesome. The menu looks extensive and full of other lots of greek food but I've only had the gyros.

I LOVE this place. The food is so delicious.. and you always receive gigantic portions. The gyros are literally to die for. The staff is pretty friendly too and restaurant is always clean. And you can pay with a credit card here unlike the one on the Eastside.

Best gyros in milwaukee .i love the chicken shiskabob...the staff is so very friendly.also very reasonable prices the portions are huge my favorite gyro place

One of the best quick service places I know of. The Gyro Combination Plate might be the best value around! I always get several meals out of it. We also like the Kebabs and their Leg of Lamb. When Diane is in town, the Drive Thru is a regular stop for us!

Tasty gyros, fresh Greek salad (flavorful Greek dressing), and convenient drive through. Yea! Oh, yea and a very friendly staff!

While having the same name as its twin on the East side, this location is far superior in every way. It has a large, clean dining room, the food is fresher and the service is better. This place can afford to put forth the extra effort, however, because it is not located in the epicenter of drunkeness. If you're in the area and have a hankering for some Greek food, this place is pretty good. Aside from their gyros, which are huge and can be a bit on the greasy side, I really like their veggie pitas.

Its a consistently decent takeaway option when I'm feeling too lazy to cook. The meals are massive. The platters ($7.95) I've had to weigh when I got home on the kitchen scale. They weigh over a kilo each. I think my last one was 1.3 kilos. For me, that's dinner, lunch, lunch, and lunch; if not more. We've had the chicken, beef, and lamb. Rice, fries, and salad options. The calamari is surprisingly good. The eggplant side are cooked up as fries, which are a really interesting and tasty way to do eggplant that I'd never had or thought of before. And for the price, you just can't go wrong with this place in terms of value and consistent quality.

Excellent gyros. Almost too much food. The spinach pie is really good. Prices are quite reasonable. Atmosphere is Dairy Queen.
(4)Andy R.
I never thought to consider Gyros as a fast food until I decided to try out Oakland. For the price you pay you get so much food, ended up taking the fries home with me, and I hadn't had a gyro that good in awhile. Will definately be going back.

Awesome gyros and spinach pie!

Best gyro I ever had. They give enough meat for 3 gyros. Sliced fresh off the vertical broiler. More fries than 4 people could eat. Good service too. I heard them speaking Greek to each other so that was good.
