Not good service at all!!

This place is great for some basic home style food. (Don't believe the guy who said this is worse than Webbs) Like any menu there are things to avoid if you are going to be a food snob (corned beef and hash) but there are so many great things to choose from. My favorites include the pancakes, chicken fried steak, fish fry, and veggie omelette. The environment is nice and kid friendly. I rarely have issues with the staff.

Trainfest and that means getting together with friends Saturday night after a long nine hours at the annual show. So where else to go but just three blocks south and to Johnny V's. Can't beat the location and with all the road construction in the area and out of town visitors, this was a must. Making a reservation for ten, we soon had to up it to 13, nine from Chicago joining us, but how would the evening turn out? Time would tell. Entering the restaurant just minutes before six, there was already a line waiting in what was indeed a full house. We were immediately led back to our table and adjoining booth. We were almost immediately greeted by Heather, who was to be our server for the evening. Amazingly she was taking care of all of us and not once did she get an order mixed up. Anything we wanted or needed Heather was right there despite the fact she had other tables. My wife and I ordered the barbeque ribs, while our friends included pork cutlet, roasted chicken, pot roast, chopped steak, salmon salad and roast sirloin besides the younger crowd's choice of hamburgers, all followed by desserts. Everyone raved about the quality and portions AND our Chicago guests about the amazingly low prices. Wow, was I a hero in everyone's eyes, but it was really Heather and Johnny V's that made the day. Thank you Heather and I am pleased to nominate you for my annual "Best Female Server Award" announced on New Year's Day!

I used to visit this place a few times a year about 7 years ago, haven't been their ins about a year or two but went with a small group of people. Food seemed to be better this time, though i just got a ham and cheese omelet which is usually hard to mess up. service was quick and friendly and the prices were fair. nothing too good or too bad about the entire experiance.

Food was better than expected for a diner. Service was adequate but the best part about my Johnny v's experience was when the hostess came over to my table and told me that my families meal had already been paid for by someone else and we only had to leave a tip! It's not the cost savings that was so awesome but knowing there are still decent people in the world that just want to do something nice for others that made it such a good experience!

The food here is super delicious!!!!!! Biscuits and gravy, country friend steak and eggs. The pancakes are humongous, fluffy, and really tasty. Will definitely be coming back because I saw this Belgian waffle with a ton of whipped cream and I just have to try it. I have found my go to place for breakfast in Milwaukee. They were really busy and we had a longer than normal wait for the food but it was July 4th weekend and they were short staffed. I'll forgive them this time :) What are you waiting for, go!

Stopped in for breakfast while passing through town the other morning. This was my first time to Johnny V's, but the place was recommended to me, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered the Gyro skillet, and it was very good. My two eggs, over easy, where cooked perfectly, and the gyro sauce on the skillet really pulled the dish together. Overall my experience here was good, and should I ever be back in that area again, I would stop back in. I have only two complaints. (1). They had the AC blasting at 7:30 in the morning, with an outside temp of only 66 that morning, and not humid at all. It was so cold inside the diner, that I wished I had my winter coat. (2). My server never once came back to the table to check on me, see how my food was, or ask if I wanted anything else.
(3)Doug R.
The gf and I were there around 6 or so and it wasn't that busy. I liked the decor inside and for what I got, you can't beat the price. For $16 I got a 12 oz Ribeye(which was decent) that came with fries, corn, mushroom caps, topped with onion rings, soup or salad, bread and your choice of house desert. I would go back for that alone. I'll probably be back at some point in the future, I just won't be in a rush.

Did you ever notice that the fine folks of Dirty Stallis take a deep and unwavering pride in mediocrity? Well I did, and Johnny Vs (why is there no apostrophe? There should be a f***ing apostrophe there!) is a prime example of such. I met there for lunch with my new boy toy and were it not for his dreaminess the outing would have been seriously sub par. But luckily, my eyes were all googly eyed and my heart was aflutter and so I didn't care that our food was humbly middle of the road. I didn't care that there was a fly buzzing in the window next to us. I didn't care that the menu was huge but unsatisfying. I just think we can do better than this folks, but we certainly can do worse too. Movin' on.

Johnny V's is a 50's themed cafe located near State Fair Park in West Allis. If you are looking for a place that has good food at decent prices, this is a good place to go. They offer quite the selection: burgers, pasta, sandwiches, pizza and more. Breakfast food is also served and can be ordered anytime. Be sure to check out the daily specials, because they do have some good choices on there from time to time. On my last visit, I had the stuffed shells from the specials menu. They were fabulous. You can either do dine in or carryout. They also offer delivery from 11am-11pm Monday thru Saturday and 12pm- 11pm on Sundays. One thing to note: their hours recently changed. They are now open from 6 am to Midnight, instead of 24 hours.
(4)Kristine D.
I have been there many times over the past several years. This is a great place to go for breakfast anytime. We always stop here before we go to State Fair Park, and never have to worry about waiting to long for food and always make it to our destination on time. The only thing that I would have to say is that some of the waitresses seem to be preoccupied. When we stop there on a Friday or Saturday night they bring the food then seem to disappear until you flag someone down. I even got up to get my own straw and silverware on separate occasions. The food is great for the prices and it's always hot.
(3)Karen R.
Portions are huge so this is a good place to go if you are really hungry. They make the best vegetable teriyaki in town, with fresh veggies and their own sauce. Eggs, pancakes, hashbrowns, yes please. Soups are really good too, especially the tomato bisque. Pizza is good, not great, because their dough can be tough and too thick. And if you want sweets, order the carrot cake or fat chocolate cake and you won't be disappointed. Big portions and fresh ingredients. Yum. Dining in is fun because it is an old fashioned diner experience. Delivery is even better because typically it is fast and they don't mess up the order. A friendly place and not expensive. A great go-to casual place with fresh food and nice people.

Since I moved to the East Side a couple years ago, I rarely find myself out in the Dirty Stallis. But when I do, I like to visit some of my own haunts and Johnny V's was definitely one of them. Sadly, I feel like it's gone downhill in the last couple years. Stopped by a few weekends ago and although the service was friendly enough, the food quality was absolutely terrible compared to what I was expecting. The turkey on the club wrap tasted old...if that's possible, and the french fries were cold. I'm sure I'll go back again for old times sake, but I won't make an extra effort to do it.
(2)S T.
I had the gyro and eggs with Texas toast. Everything was perfect and the food came fast and hot. The service was great. $7.42 for the breakfast was cheaper than I thought when the check came. The place was totally full with one person at the counter at 7am so seating was great. My. Server was attentive and I don't know why some reviews dump on the service because I have never had an issue. What I really liked was that the gyro meat was thick chunks like I have never had and not thin sliced like I can't stand. The thick chunks of gyro were tasty and finally big enough to chew so all the flavor comes out. Was this the best gyro and eggs,no. Was this worst,no but the fact that the meat was thick and chunky with good flavor makes jhonny v's stand above the rest when it comes to gyro and eggs. See my pictures.

Johnny V's is great. It's homey like a diner, but (as my dad put it) "not sticky." They have a ton of options for nearly everyone's tastes, and serve breakfast all day - my kind of joint. Went there two weekends in a row and ordered the chorizo and eggs both times. Man, that is duh-licious. Sister enjoyed the same as I had, Dad ordered the Robert E. Lee ("Because I'm from the South!") and said it was pretty good. We meant to share a dessert after but totally forgot. I'm doing it next time because they sound super good. Brulee for breakfast? Thank you, I will. As a last note, the staff has been great any time I've been here. The servers are funny and will joke with you, don't bother you too much, but are attentive. The coffee guys come around often, you may have to fend them off. It may not be worth it to go out of your way for this place, but definitely if you're in the area.
(4)Kelly B.
Diner, yes. Classic, no. I went here on a whim Sunday night with a jonesing for some pancakes and bacon, and I left hungry. Easy enough to find and park and sit at, seemingly difficult to eat. To start off with, our server was almost unbearable. She was probably 16 and acted like we were her girlfriends by gossiping and sitting down to talk to us, even as we repeatedly cut off the conversation. We got to hear about her buying her little boyfriend a promise ring (which cost $495!) and all about "effing" this and "effing" that....I know it is a low key, laid back place, but come on. Had she been an outstanding server it would be one thing, but no. She was bragging at the end how it was her last day because she got a "real" job serving at Buffalo Wild Wings....right. Our waters weren't delivered until halfway through the meal. I ordered the Farmer's Skillet and received whatever they felt like putting in it. I am allergic to mushrooms and this skillet was riddled with them. Luckily I am used to poking through my meals first, and caught them before any issues, but that is unacceptable. After waiting almost 15 minutes for an initial checkback I finally waved her down to complain. She didn't even apologize, just took it away. I asked for it to go since it had already been so long, and not a single thing was comped on the bill. Joe ended up taking his cold meal in a box along with mine to just eat at home instead. When I finally did get around to eating it, it was terrible. The onions, peppers AND potatoes were all undercooked and subsequently crunchy. I picked at a couple bites and gave up. To their credit, my chocolate malt was awesome (even though the server told us she took some for herself?!?). Seems like a Stallis version of a drunk munchies place, and it's probably the only time I would return.
(2)Alli W.
There is basically nothing particularly special about this place that I could tell. Quite average. My food wasn't good enough to tempt me into taking the leftovers with me, but I paid as much for it as I would have at much tastier joints.
(2)Seth S.
I come back here for the pizza, that is about it. Service is just okay at best, sometimes it is really to be desired. The menu is like 3 pages long so they really specialize in nothing, but as I said the pizza is worth coming back for!
(3)John N.
I would have given them a 3 for the food but two stars because of the staff. We used to be die hard fans of this place when we moved here. We were very loyal and got delivery about twice a week maybe more. We thought the food was great a few years ago. They had really good breakfast, burgers and pizza. But in the past couple of months the staff taking our food order over the phone is horrible extremely rude and I've been hung up on at least 4 times. You'd think with how much we order we would be flagged as special customers and treated very respectfully but you'd be wrong. When hung up on we've called back and they been rude with me and said she didn't hang up on you your phone is broken and I was calling from a landline. On top of that I have stressed over and over that we need extra mayonnaise, ketchup, xcetera on the side and not only do they forget the extra they don't bring us any condiments at all. So if you order a burger plan on using your own ketchup and your own condiments. To top it off, we also get other peoples orders or they forget half of our food entirely. The only plus is we live very close and the delivery drivers are very nice people but the staff taking your order is horrible. So I would recommend picking up your own food and checking your bag if you're going to order from this place and just stick to breakfast. Good luck - its Russian roulette with food.

3.5 Stars for this old school neighborhood diner; not fancy, but down to earth home cooking. We've eaten at Johnny V's about ten times now in the past year and half, mostly for breakfast food, lunch a few times and never for dinner. We do want to try the dinner menu and special items they have posted for all-you-can-eat items, which has aroused our curiosity; especially the "riblets.". Omelets are consistently good, as have been the skillet breakfasts. They have egg whites and Beaters which we always get. The burgers and sandwiches we've had have been AOK. We like the servers and service here; all the servers are friendly, helpful and service oriented. The bus staff is very attentive of coffee and beverage re-fills, speaking of which, the coffee is ALWAYS good. Liquor-wise, although they have serve liquor/beer/wine, there is no sit-down bar. PS: I read the previous reviews before posting this. I'm pretty critical of my experiences in restaurants and what I've eaten there. I can say unequivocally that I have never, ever experienced the things that those who posted one and two star reviews have said about Johnny V's.
(3)stephanie k.
Great place to go for breakfast with Shannon as your server or after bar close :) Ty for all the memories I've made throughout high school and as a drunk adult!
(4)Heather M.
They only get two stars and thats being generous. The food is so so nothing special. I have been here several times but its always been a group of us so me n the hubby decided to go just us two. It usually takes them a while to get to us but I figured we normally go after bar close so I gave them the bennefit of a doubt. they sat us n it went down hill from there. He ordered a pineapple shake and asked there were chucks of pineapples in it. She said yes n stated she would b back. Well when he tasted the shake there weren't chucks of pineapple and had no flavor. He returned it n asked for water she looked at him said sure n rolled her eyes n walked away. It took them a good 15 mins before they came back to take the rest of our order. The food was so so not horrible but not great I got a cup of soup n he got a burger that was salty. When we went to go pay the pen was tossed to us to sign the receipt. When we go out to eat I want to be waited on. Not to feel like we are bugging u or its a chore to sever us. Never again will we come back in a group or alone.
(2)James H.
Why should my little group of seven and I need to wait almost 10 minutes to get a table in an almost empty restaurant? The waitress/hostess looked at me like I was a moron when I asked about the hold-up. We waited some more for menus and drinks. ***CAUTION: these people will ask if you want a refill on your soda as if the refills are free and when the bill comes, you find out that you have been charged for a second drink. I hate it when restaurants do this because I hate asking if something if free like I'm cheap.*** We had burgers and fries and sandwiches. I just had a burger with cheddar which was unremarkable. The waitress mixed up our orders and gave me a side of garlic fries. I wash I had let it slide because it causes far more heart ache than it was worth because she didn't apologize and I ended up getting my regular fries when everybody else was done eating. I'm never going here again. I'll tolerate mediocre food but not when it comes with surely, even hostile service.
(1)Thomas W.
Service was not great, food was cold and the bill was over by $5.00. Check your bill carefully at this place or they'll cheat you !!!!
(1)Chemi D.
I always come here for breakfast or when i have the late night munchies. I like the service here, all the waitresses are very friendly. I love love the milk shakes! but last time the coffee was kinda bland... Johnny's always decorates the cafe according to what holiday is coming up and they really do go all out on the decorations and thats always fun to see. The prices here are very reasonable, very down to earth cafe.
(4)Ilana O.
Let's start off with a question for the people out there who enjoy finding typos and grammatical errors: when would there be an apostrophe in always? Answer: never, except for on a sign at this diner "Alway's Open." - Why? I'm not sure. Obviously, though that didn't impact the experience. The place: pretty big. smells greasy. sort of archetypal West Allis-an. Service is decent, however, if you get annoyed when someone tries to refill your coffee 7 times throughout your meal, you might want to stay away. The taste: they sort of make an attempt to have healthy options. The peaches on the side, are canned (probably in heavy syrup), so I opted for the cottage cheese on the side instead. The portions are big, the quality is sub-par, and I'm pretty sure they don't do anything fresh. My face: The damage for 2 - $18, plus tip. open 24 hours, so if I'm ever drunk and starving at 4am, I'll know where to go. That would pretty much be the only circumstance under which I'd ever return.
(2)Marissa K.
Sick with food poisoning from the biscuits and gravy this morning. Also the waitress seemed uninterested in doing any waitressing, was completely rude to our group and got our order wrong. She even complained to another waitress that she was upset she hadn't made much money in tips, with that attitude I can see why. The bathroom was a joke, one stall toilet was broken, no toilet paper or paper towels. Rude waitress, ridiculous facilities, food poisoning...yeah this place has gone downhill.
(1)Michael E.
I've been here probably 15 times since I moved to West Allis a couple years ago and I've yet to be disappointed. I've had attentive service during each visit and the food has always been good. The biscuits and gravy are excellent and the steak quesadilla is worth coming for on Thursdays. They have great coffee, too. One of my favorite places in West Allis.
(4)Brook A.
I love the place! One of 76th best spots in West Allis! Awesome food 24hrs! Can't beat it!
(5)Becky D.
Okay, I might be writing this review because I was curious what other people had to say. I think this is a really good classic Milwaukee diner. Don't go here if you are counting calories! Their western omelet is everything a diner omelet should be. Sort of fluffy eggs, lots of ham, cheese and veggies. The hash browns are greasy and amazing. Just all around a good diner for breakfast!
(3)Jessica O.
Good solid diner. Food here is always comforting, greasy and satifying. Service here is always so polite and quick to get your food to the table.
(5)Samantha P.
Always great breakfast, great fries and wonderful Enzo sandwiches! Best chicken dumpling soup in town! If you are hungry and don't feel like waiting for a table and want to eat good food without returning it, go to V's!
(5)Juliana R.
I had Johnny V's during festa italiana. I ordered the gnocchi which was completely tasteless, came with cheap rubbery bread. My bf had the baked ziti with meatballs and it was out of this world!
(3)Mike V.
Kinda like a local Midwestern Denny's. Like in the sense that, it's the only place where you and all your drunk friends can go at 4 am (which is fortunate because you need to be semi-conscious to consciously chose to eat the food.) 3 stars for letting us park in their lot from 4 am until sometime the next afternoon without calling a tow-truck. (The Chrystler Sebring somehow gets 5 stars all on it's own)
(3)Ashley S.
Hey, the foods not amazing, but it's still good. This place is fairly cheap and is open 24 hours. Perfect place to go after a night of drinking.
(3)Smooty U.
I really wanted to like this place. I had a so so breakfast. Nothing to write home about. Maybe next time it will be better.
(2)Joe G.
This Coca-Cola themed restaurant is a good place to catch decent food at any time of the day or night. Milwaukee desperately needs options beyond George Webb's, and for those in the West Allis area, this is probably one of the best choices. It's kind of like a Greek restaurant without the Greek - all of the food, but substitute a Coca-Cola theme. Generally clean and well-kept.

Great food and service at a fair price, everything i have tried from the menu at this location has been excellent, i highly recommend the turkey and veggie omelet. The staff are always friendly and the food has always been high quality, out of all the late night options in Milwaukee i would recommend this one. EDIT 1/21/2011 : The place has gone down hill recently, I have come a couple of time after midnight and became extremely ill after leaving, I hope the management can focus on these issues and bring the place back to what it formally was.

I hate to leave terrible reviews but this has to be one of the worst places I've ever been to. Ok, I expected the bad greasy food but I didn't expect the big piece of hair on my plate and for people to be constantly vaccuuming around our table while we were trying to eat. Then when I asked if they had to do that right now while we were eating (they were literally going under our table!) they said yes, because they were preparing for the dinner crowd. Wow!

Why isn't there a "zero-star" option? Only one word comes to mind to describe this place DISGUSTING. As soon as we walked in our noses were instantly met with the stench of wet dog and old people. Even in my drunkest hour I know enough not to eat here. I don't want anyone to have to suffer the way I did the one time I attempted this place - please save yourselves! Go to Pegasus (a few blocks east of 84th on Greenfield) if you need late-night food.
