Just OK - nothing great, nothing horrendous. No air conditioning on when it was 85 degrees outside... I guess they're going for that true Mexican ambiance... Portions were large but the fajitas were drenched in oil. Salsa was fresh. Prices are very reasonable. ~$40 for dinner for two.

The service here sucked tonight. Waited 15 mins for service. Was about to leave. And then the food sucked. It was cold and the server never came back. The food and service has def. went down. Not coming back, after coming here for the last 4 years.

The food is solid authentic Mexican, it's simple, well composed, and almost home made. The drinks are strong too. Definite plus. A couple months ago I would have never come here... But they are getting their game back with simply good food. my one gripe, the bathrooms... BUT GET THE GREEN SALSA!!!!!! It's the best!

This place is great for the prices! I was a little upset that they did not have flavored margaritas, but the queso was delicious and the tacos were great! I wish they would have had some type of authentic music playing.

So I've frequented this place several times since it's the closest to UWM when I'm in the area. I'll be honest, my very first experience here was with a guy that I was dating at the time a few years ago. He brought me here when I told him that I wanted some pretty good authentic Mexican Food. Well, that first experience was a bust because I wasn't happy with the food. The food was bland and so were the chips and salsa. Tasted pretty basic. I tend to order Carne Asada (Steak Tacos) to be on the safe side when I try new restaurants so that was what I ordered. So, for quite some time, I never returned to this place. After a few years, I decided to give this place another try and ordered Carne Asada because I was still a bit skeptical. However, after trying another restaurant that I had similar biased feelings about, my Mexican Friends suggested that I try a tostada instead. When I did, I was actually pleased. So I tried a tostada at this location and was equally pleased. So what I've realized is that not everyone can do a Carne Asada well and that tostadas are the way to go. So I've been back a few times, but only for the tostadas. I guess it would be beneficial to know that all of the times that I've visited this location (except for the very first time) , it's always been after bar hours. Now, my most recent visit, I was very happy. Maybe it was because of the cook, maybe the company, or maybe the margaritas. I liked the meat, although it was a bit salty and the house margaritas were strong and delicious. On this visit, it was during the afternoon and then we came back later that night after bar hours. Now just because I came back in the same day doesn't mean that I loved the food during the day. Again, this is my go to spot for Mexican Food when I'm in the area. So my tostada was good both times, which I think it was because the same cook was still there for the entire day. Since the meat was good that day, anything with the meat would taste good that day. So I guess it depends on the meat (or cook for that matter) to decide whether or not you will actually like the dish. Oh, we tried the Horchata and I could tell it was made from some powder mix and I didn't like it so much. So from now on, I'll be tasting the tostadas as my "safe" dish and go from there to decide on what I will order next. And by the way, Carne Asada should not have pieces of rubbery fat or hard pieces of meat. If it does, then they are probably using cheap cuts of meat/burning the meat and that takes away from the experience. Did you know that they have another location on 16th street? I LOVE their Carne Asada and in my opinion, tastes way better than any place that I've tried thus far!

Truly the only positive thing about this Mexican restaurant is that they didn't card us when I came here a couple years ago my Freshmen year of college..Even with the alcohol, this place STUNK. Recently, I decided to give them a second chance, but the service was even worse, table was dirty, and burritos were soggy with limited chicken. Margarita was decent, I guess. Usually drink beer so I guess I don't really know if it was good, but I enjoyed it. BUTTTTTT, overall, this place wasn't very good. I've experienced better. much better.

I came here with a few friends. I was expecting a cheap Mexican place because that's what we wanted but I also wanted something authentic, which I thought I was going to get. I ordered tamales and they were fine. Super bland and I just wasn't interested. I also got charged a dollar for the stalled cup of sour cream. One the topic of money, they won't split checks after 6pm. It is 2015 and if you can split a check before 6, then you can split them after. This was frustrating because their atm also charged a fee and depending on who you bank with that's an extra 5 dollars to your meal. Our waitress was very uncomfortable and made us feel that way. She tried to wait is without writing down our orders but once we ordered 3 items she had to take a couple of minutes to get paper which was also frustrating. The manager, maybe owner of the store, was also very rude when it came to making out change after we got 20s from the atm. If you split the check that wouldn't have been an issue. The food was fine and the time with friends was great but my experience in the restaurant could have been way better.

I just visited this place for the first time tonight. Let's just say they leave much to be desired. I ordered a huge burrito suizo with shredded chicken that being described as bland would be an understatement. The rice and beans were decent, salsa was decent, guacamole was decent... service was fast I ordered togo and it was ready in less than 5 minutes. I'm just not impressed, i'll stick to el senioral on 31st &burnham for authentic mexican.

Good late night food for take out. Great prices. I don't have any experience with the service or drinks.

That was the worst guacamole I have ever had and it cost me 8.95. Burrito was okay.

Yeah, I used to love the Tostada Dinner, super good, and the fresh salsa while you're waiting is nice too. You better keep eating it, or your mouth will burn...

No heat in the place, manager says that it's been down for a long time. They are heating the place with 3 space heaters. Dah, maybe customers what to be warm when they eat. The best thing though was the waitress digging for gold in her nose very in a very aggressive manner. She then proceeded to serve several customers never washing her hands. Oh BOY bUggers

Went for lunch last week. I've been here several times over the years. Service was fast and it wasn't real busy. Place seemed clean Chips and salsa were great as usual I got 3 steak tacos. They tasted great like usual. Price was decent too. Way better than qdoba down the street, more authentic, and better priced. I will go back for lunch at some points in the future. I don't know what people expect, but this place is like it's always been

I hadn't been to Jalisco's for some time. I started losing interest in in years ago when El Chico's was a much more enjoyable option. After they closed, we just hit up the southside whenever we wanted authentic mexican. However, my wife and I have talked about going Jalisco's lunch buffet for about a year now and yesterday we finally did. It was a complete and utter failure. I love tostadas, but outside of that and the rice, there isn't anything worthwhile available. Anyone can make beans, right. The ground beef used for tacos was pretty gross. I was really hoping to make steak tacos, or al pastor, something that I wouldn't make at home. Remember when you were a little kid and you went to your friends house for Taco Tuesdays? It was just like that, except a helluva lot worse. The shredded (chunked) chicken was meh. For some reason there was smothered porkchops. My wife got one, it was greasy as all get out. I thought there was a tray full of enchiladas. Wrong. Pretty sure it was chicken parmasean, but I didn't bother investigating. I'm not sure if there is any other mexican buffets in the area, but this was a super letdown. The price is right, but unless you just want tostadas, don't waste your time.

We came here to enjoy a margarita and some chips and salsa as a nice little start to an evening out. The margarita was pretty good. It didn't knock my socks off, but it did its job and tasted good. The inside is quite kitschy (mariachi decor, etc). I felt like it should have been cleaner. The salsa: first, horrific taste. Second, it is not salsa. It is hot pepper sauce with chunks of tomato. I found it inedible. Incredibly hot. Off taste, too. I asked if they offered any other kind of salsa, and they do not. I do appreciate the variety on the menu, plenty of options. Service was fine, but confusing. Half way through our dining experience, we got a new server and the old one was never mentioned again.

I've been here several times and I'm still not so sure about Jalisco's. I recall having dinner here the first time about 7 yrs ago, I recall the food being VERY cheap and the margaritas being VERY strong. Over the course of those 7 years, the margaritas lost their kick and the prices slowly crept upward... Which brings me to my latest visit, December 2012. My boyfriend wants to get "cheap" Mexican food and a margarita. He suggests Jalisco's. It was ackwardly quiet in there that night, just a few tables. I would have liked it if the at least had the tvs on the Thursday night football game. Then the baby across the way started scream crying.... We order a margarita each and, after reviewing their menu and lack-of specials, a steak torta ($8ish) - I was in the mood to try something new. I honestly don't recall what my boyfriend ordered because instead of our server bringing us 1 margarita each, he brought us a pitcher (or was it a half pitcher? Again, not so sure on the details). I was hesitant to say anything, I regret that I did not correct him. The margaritas were STRONG. Almost undrinkable; actually I couldn't even finish my 2nd pour, so maybe it was a half pitcher, or maybe that wasn't my second drink. The food, as I recall (and from my leftovers) was decent; the torta had plentiful steak and yummy avocado but the bread was kind of tough. I loved my refried beans and rice, so that got a thumbs up. I know my boyfriend liked whatever he ordered. All of a sudden that baby crying and the silence didn't bother us anymore. Our "cheap" dinner date turned into $41-ish, and I wasn't about to skimp on the tip because I'm not that kind of person. Though I wish I would have said something about the pitcher of margs that was brought to our table because that was $22 or $24 alone; the rest of my evening was a blur and I went to bed before 10pm. The next morning was pretty rough too... So was this dinner worth my $50? No. Will I return to Jalisco's in the future? Maybe, but it definitely won't be my first, or second, or third choice. Next time the boy says he wants cheap Mexican food, we are going to Taco Bell.

It's been a super hot minute since I was here. Really not the fondest memories either. Came down to the east side to try love handle, but they were about to close and didn't appear to be what we sought on a Friday. Defaulted to Jaliscos, and walked away pleasantly surprised. The place wasn't two am packed, like a former life, our server was accommodating, patient, and attentive. Food came out really quick as can be expected, but everything was piping hot, and didn't skimp on fillings. There was no table turn pressure like I've experienced on fifth st. Honestly surprised, if I want a nice fat suizo burrito and time to enjoy the conversation of my company I may have to rethink my Mexican fix.

Wow, what a contrast from the Jalisco in Grafton. I went here for drinks and dinner with some friends. The service was extremely slow, margarita pitchers were tiny yet almost double the price of those you would find at places on the South Side, and the chips and salsa aren't much better than store bought. The Taco Food Cart has better tasting, looking, and quality food than here. Definitely save yourself some money and your appetite for Mexican and go to the south side.

There's really nothing special about Jalisco's other than they're open when you need them to be open. Over the years, I've found myself visiting this restaurant after concerts and Summerfest more than any place in the city. It's easy to get to and parking always seems to be available without much of a struggle. The food is edible. I suppose it deserves more credit than that though. I've never ventured too far off my list of favorites on the menu. Their horchatas are satisfying. The chips and salsa will fill the void until the meal arrives. The guac is pretty tasty. I've never had any complaints about the suizo con chorizo burrito or their chicken mole. It's all worth the small price you'll pay for a late night meal. This is definitely not a place I'd ever bring a date, but it is the perfect place to bring your friend who's had one too many and wants to get a little food in his stomach before passing out. People watching is always entertaining here too, especially the later it gets.

Great food. Great atmosphere. Kind of looks like a dump but one of my favorite mexican restaurants in milwaukee.

quite possibly the worst mexican food i have ever had in my life... the shredded lettuce was probably the most flavorful thing on my plate. if you include everything on the table though my water would probably win that competition... their margaritas were not bad, but im assuming that was just because there was actually alcohol in them. i hear they dont card under-agers, which is probably the only reason that they are still in business... thank god for uwm students... to put it all plainly if you are looking for good mexican food in milwaukee go somewhere on the south side... where you can actually taste the food... i did give them two stars though, and ill tell you why. the server was nice. the food came out pretty fast. and the portion sizes were enough for 3 meals. 2 if youre a fat ass like me... so. there you have it.

good rice and beans. Stay away from Lengua tacos (or probably anything unusual sounding). I got very sick last time after eating it. In fact, I am now averse to ever going back.

Seems to be new management here. All good changes except for the chips! Bring back the fresh made ones instead of store bought! Love my torta sandwich. Always to back for more!

We went in to Jalisco on North Ave for lunch on St Patrick's day for two reasons: The restaurant was advertising a free small margarita with an order of $10 or more, and my girlfriend and I just moved to Milwaukee and are looking for our "neighborhood Mexican place." We thought it was as good a time as any to check this one out. Overall, it was a disappointing experience. I will say that the service was friendly, though not remarkably prompt, and the prices were good for entrees. Some of the extras and sides were excessive, though. They had a lot of traditional fare, like lingua and horchata. They didn't have any particularly vegetarian options. They serve free chips & salsa once...but they charge for more than the first round. The salsa was decent...medium heat, nice and chunky... stale chips, though. A side of guacamole with chips was $8. And it was about 1/3 cup of your basic, bland, green, super market squeeze-tube variety quac with stale chips. The small margaritas were, indeed, the smallest margaritas I've ever seen. They were pleasantly strong, but it was $8 for about 1/2 cup of liquid (granted, we took advantage of the promo... but I still checked the menu price). My girlfriend got 2 cheese enchiladas a la carte.... but got more lettuce than she did enchiladas. The enchiladas come in corn tortillas, so they were definitely smaller than we expected and the sauce was bland. I got the chicken enchiladas with salsa verde. Again, they were small and the enchiladas themselves were a tad bland... but the salsa verde, at least had good flavor and was semi-spicy. The rice and beans were... rice and beans. Having moved from LA, we've become accustomed to being inundated with Mexican food options. It's a favorite and a great neighborhood Mexican joint with good salsa and margaritas is a must. So, for us, the hunt continues....

The service is absolutely horrible. It took my waitress 10 minutes to get a cup of water. Took another 15 minutes to take my order. And then took 30 minutes to get my food. And then she never even came back to give me refills OR to give me my bill!!!! I caught her & asked for the bill and then waited for 20 minutes for it. By that time, I was so fed up I spoke to the manager. He apologized and that was it! Nothing else! This place really needs to start training their waiters/waitresses on proper customer service. It's absolutely ridiculous. Anyways a little good news here. The food was pretty good. However, do remember that the only Mexican I've really eaten before is Taco Bell.. and we all know that's not legitly real Mexican. So all in all, good food but HORRIBLE service.

Worst food I have ever had. Pretty sure the enchilada sauce is ketchup. Seriously, I contemplated making myself throw up after I suffered a few bites.

Part of the fun at Jalisco's is never knowing what you will get. Sometimes you get exactly what you ordered, and sometimes something else entirely. Sometimes you get a mild case of food poisoning (been there). Sometimes you get exceptional service and sometimes your server will disappear entirely. I guess I enjoy unpredictability because I keep going back. Word to the wise - stick to beer as the margaritas are clearly made from a corn syrupy Chi-Chis type mix.

  • Nancy R.

I had the Enchilada mole poblano and a lime Margarita on the rocks. The enchiladas were average. The Margarita was good, with plenty of tequila. Chips stale and salsa uninspired. My service was good until it came time to pay my bill. Apparently the expectation is to take your check to the bar to pay, but my waitress did not tell me that, so I sat waiting for her to return for about 15 minutes after she dropped it off. It doesn't bother me to go somewhere else to pay, but I would greatly appreciate you telling me that, particularly if you see me sitting and waiting for you to come back! She disappeared back in the kitchen and I never saw her after she gave me my check.

I love this place! I go for the lunch buffet. The food is always tasty; the buffet is kept clean and is frequently replenished. Cute decor in a clean dining room (even the ladies room is clean!). Friendly service; nice mix of Bachata and Salsa music.

Understand where you are and what you are eating. Jalisco's is a staple of Milwaukee. Late night cheap eats you cant go wrong. Jalisco's doesn't claim to be the cleanest or the best tasting. What about that bag of chips or that food you eat from the vending machine at work? Not the best tasting or the most cost effective thing you've purchased but it hits the spot when you are hungry or in need. Jalisco's is on East North ave minutes from the lakefront. The prices are very reasonable and the food is plentiful. I will admit it does not appear to be the most swank or clean option you could choose to eat at on this side of town. The food is actually OK. Its not the best Mexican food that i have but again, it hit the spot when i got it and i didn't have to break the bank for it. I usually order the chicken fajitas or the chicken suzia. I dont have complaints about what i get its usually pretty good. After all, I do use my money and my gas to get there and get the food. I have never experienced the buffet. So i cant speak on that. If you are looking for a good c+ to b- mexican food expereince and you want to save a little money stop at Jalisco's. Remember the reason you are going, this way you wont have complaints about what you expected, when you knew what you were getting before you get it.

It's been three months since my ill-fated visit to Jalisco and not once did I say "I really need to write that review." Glutton for punishment? Ok, here's why you shouldn't visit: 1. Filthy from the front door to the dining area and beyond. 2. Incredibly slow service, even with almost no patrons and four staff members. 3. Tasteless "food" (dry chicken, canned toppings), stale chips that resemble cracked drywall, and an additional charge for extra chips we didn't order. Sweet. No thanks. I'd rather hit the Taco Bell drive thru.

Just the best place to go when you have an unholy craving for margaritas with good Mexican food on the side. There is almost always immediate seating and the food comes quickly!

JALISCO, JALISCO, JALISCO...... Everytime I mention this place to someone they talk about the health violations the restaurant has recieved and rumors of using DOG MEAT in their HUGE BURRITOS.... my response was "Well if's THAT'S DOG MEAT then THAT WAS THE BEST DAMN DOG I EVER HAD. WHAT BREED?" Despite the negative publicity it JUST DOESN'T STOP ANYONE from stepping in and ordering a HUGE A** STEAK BURRITO loaded with LETTUCE, ONIONS, TOMATOES, SOUR CREAM and enough SALSA to supply a MEXICAN FUTBOL PARTY. I frequent the PROSPECT and NORTH location in MILWAUKEE, which is about 3 buildings from their corporate competition Qdoba and their burritos just can't compare to JALISCO'S. If you just want Mexican, go to Qdoba, but if you want AUTHENTIC MEXICAN then just walk a little further and you will find it and you will be full and you will be FELIZ!!

I have been here a few times before and I gotta say that I like this place on some days and do not for others. They have great drink prices like cheap margaritas and such and good Corona prices and they have amazing Quesadillas but they don't have a whole lot to choose from. It is a nice little place to grab some Hispanic inspired food and then be on your way. I like that it is nice a quiet when you've had a rough day and just want to relax. It is no special place but is just "one of those places" They have a jukebox and a TV or two but it is generally Hispanic music in there. Which is great but sometimes it sounds like the same song over and over again. Every other entree I got was not that good at all, and dare I say it? Taco Bell makes better tacos than this place. All-in-All, not an amazing place but I guess a "every-once-in-a-while," quick grub grab, 1 drink kind of place when your in the mood for Mexican food.

went for lunch. enjoyed it. had the buffet - $7.99 all-you-can-eat. can't beat the price. restaurant was moderately busy around 12:30p. hostess and server very friendly. most others seemed to be ordering off the menu - $5.99 lunch items. guess you can beat the $7.99 buffet price. buffet was standard fare - hard and soft tortillas, chicken, beef, rice, beans, trimmings and some soup and chicken wings. couple trips and I was content. will definitely return.

Picked up a burrito after a late night out and about downtown. The burrito was ready in minutes, and was HUGE. Of course, I had a few bites when I got home and then promptly went to bed, but the burrito was still just as good the next morning -- the avocado was still green, too (which was a little suspect but still delicious). Have picked up late-night food here before and it hasn't disappointed. Nothing fancy, nothing to write home about, but definitely good after a few drinks!

Not very impressed. I was dragged here by a few friends who raved about the authentic Mexican food. The menu (like many Mexican restaurants) was ridiculously long and confusing to navigate. The waiter seemed to want to spent more time at the bar over serving us, and the prices weren't anything to win me over. Personally I would much rather have gone to Chipotle over spent the time and effort at this place. Don't really recommend

This place has great margaritas at a reasonable price, and mediocre food. I like this place for the bar more than the restaurant. The staff is very friendly and the food and drinks are prepared quickly, so for convenience and price I'll just say this is a great place. The meat on the tostadas was pretty rubbery and gray, but it was hot and the toppings made it alright.

Worse mexican Restaurant I have ever ever ever been to... I ordered steak enchiladas....they waiter brought me chicken enchiladas...... I asked him to bring me steak politely and they still brought me chicken enchiladas..as if I didn't know the difference.... the 3rd time was the charm it was indeed steak....they didn't have breaded steak as stated in the menu.....they also didn't have a lot of the drinks .... I also went with a party of 8...it was so embarrassing their service sucked.. they were very very rude.... I couldn't believe it....this isn't the first time they have been rude either....I am officially never going back.....food is good.....customer service is awful.

Service: I've only had one bad experience and I have been to J's A LOT! I think she was new. Food: Pretty solid - best on the east side and top 5 of Milwaukee Speed: They have always been speedy Price: Costs a little more than it should be (only by a few bucks) but, definately worth it because it is more authentic!! Cons: You can not split a check... that can be annoying when most people do not carry cash.

I had a hunger attack the other day and what better place to get some Mexican grub than Jalisco's? I had a burrito there a long time ago and liked it, so I figured I'd have good luck finding something that suits my fancy even though I've gone vegan since the last time eating here. Well, with the guy behind the counter (I ordered the food to go), I had to repeat my order multiple times because he didn't seem to get that I don't want any dairy in my order. I felt blue in the face after awhile, but then I decided to order some guac for a snack later on. Well, I get home and it's a teeny, tiny order of guacamole! I spent $7 on that teeny, tiny dixie cup's worth of guacamole! I spent $6 at Kopi Cafe in Chicago for an order four times the size of that! Talk about a major rip-off! Yeah, you get your money's worth where the burritos are concerned (talk about gut-ripping if you manage to stuff that entire thing down your gob), but the guacamole snafu...it wasn't even the best guacamole I'd ever had, but if you're drunk or starving, whatever. I'll probably get another burrito here if I'm desperate, but I think I'll stick to the burritos at Beans and Barley.

Perfect place for after bar! If you're here any other time obviously you're light in the wallet or you'd be on South 5th Street. Still, whenever...a decent meal. Not fancy, just decent.

Mexican restaurants like this one are a dime a dozen. You know what you're going to get. Decent, but not-incredible tacos, enchiladas, chimichangas, et cetera, et cetera, et - freakin' - cetera. Blah, blah, blah. You've had one monster burrito like this one, you've had 'em all. Go to this place drunk.

Mexican Cuisine
