Hung out here while they patched my tire next door. And it was pretty decent place to kill some time. The waitress was genuinly nice and very attentive. I ordered the stuffed french toast with strawberry toppings and bavarian cream and a side of bacon. It was really good for $8. However it was a lot of sugar which I'm not normally used to and now I have stomach ache. Not the restaurants fault obviously but my own for choosing it. Also appears to be pretty clean in the seating area. I was happy with my experience, it is what it is and I would come here again in the future.

Been here a few times, I recently came here late on a saturday night while having a waffle/pancake craving. It's a little bit of a drive from Menomonee Falls, where i was but the food is pretty good, and usually comes out fast. The restaurant is clean, friendly staff, priced fairly.

Came here for brunch before a 4th of July parade 'cause everywhere else we Yelped that I wanted to try for the first time was closed. Cheese, rice and crackers...! Not used it coming from Vegas where everything stays open 24/7, unless you work in an office, but I honestly love how most businesses in this city is about giving people time off for the holidays. So I'm really sorry we even came into this establishment instead of heading back to the boyfriend's friends' place to cook instead. Anyway... Our waitress was nice and quick to serve. She constantly checked on us, refilling our drinks when we were running low, seeing if we needed anything else. The food came quickly too, and I wasn't even amazed at how big the portion of the plate was. I will admit that the food had no distinct profile to make it memorable or make me want to go back there for it. I guess I'd just have to classify it as a place to go to last minute. Quick and nice service was all I really enjoyed from my experience here.

This place can't compete with the other Greek restaurants. The Omega is so much better. The waitress was awful and nothing here is worthy of a compliment. For one. It's the dirtiest place ever. I'm sure that something on the menu is good but we didn't find it. Not coming back. Headed back to Omega.

Look, I'm never going to step foot into a Greek Family restaurant and expect a gourmet meal. Much like fast food, I grade Greek restaurants on a slight curve. Unfortunately this joint didn't make the grade. In fact, it killed good childhood memories of Sonic the Hedgehog since now I equate the word Genesis to bland food. More on that later. We came here on a whim, and when I say on a whim, I mean it. My wife was told that even though she was short six credits, her college was graduating her I guess for time served. She found out on Tuesday that she would be graduating Friday and between Finals for both of us, her work, our two year-old and the upcoming Holiday, we had little time to plan a proper after graduation dinner. Our planning literally consisted of me rattling off about twenty five restaurants and my wife saying "NO!" I was all out of ideas and I had no time to research on yelp so when the Father-In-Law mentioned this place, I jumped. Speaking of my wife, this place is lucky that she doesn't write reviews because in her words, it was "the worst fish fry I've ever had". She also described certain atrocities in the women's bathroom that shall not be detailed in this review. I thought girl's bathrooms were supposed to be all super clean with couches? One thing I'll give them is that they seated a group of thirteen that just walked in. Everything else was downhill from there. Waitresses were quick to take our order, somewhat patient as our group slowly filed in and nice enough to split our bill when everyone was done fighting over the right to pay for dinner that night. I ordered the Ragin' Cajun Chicken Sandwich with fries and a cup of coffee. Not complicated. As soon as I ordered the sandwich, I was offered a cup of soup. I certainly wasn't expecting this as this is not a common practice at the diners and restaurants I frequent, but I love some good soup on a cold day. This was a pleasant surprise. I asked for a bowl of Clam Chowder. The waitress came back with a lukewarm bowl of what I can best describe as bland turkey gravy with a few little thinly sliced pieces of clam intermixed. This might be the worst soup I ever had. What was this, a depression era recipe? I'm pretty sure soup kitchens are currently serving better soup to the poor. After a few minutes of washing down that glue they called soup with a cup of coffee, they brought me the sandwich and fries. The fries were cold. My inner child told me they were Ore-Ida. The sandwich was described in the menu as pretty much the hottest things on the menu. The chicken breast was supposed to have cajun spices, I really didn't taste them but the chicken breast itself tasted okay. The "Pepper Jack" cheese tasted a lot like American cheese. Mmmm, more blandness. It was topped with some barely hot pickled Jalapenos and the whole thing was held together by a squished bland bun. If I had to measure this sandwich on a heat scale with 1 being not hot at all and 10 being the hottest, this would be a negative 3. The waitresses must have knew that this sammie wasn't that hot, because after one refill post-bland soup, I stared at the bottom of my bottomless cup of coffee with no one coming by until it was time to pay the bill and still with no refill. I even heard that this place has dessert, and knowing me even a terrible dinner couldn't keep me from dessert. Yet out of two waitresses working our group of 13 on a slow night, not one of them asked if I wanted dessert before punching up my bill. And my invisibility didn't end there. I'm really a patient person, really. I waited in line while the cashier talked to her friends, cashed out a customer, pushed a few keys, and then talked some more. I make my way to the front of the line (finally) and restrained myself from ruining my wife's night anymore than it had been. I gave a smile and a kind hello. She punches up the bill and tells me the total (it was pretty cheap at least). I hand her my credit card, only to have her swipe it, hold it up in between her knuckles with the numbers side out only to talk for another two minutes with my credit card in plain sight only moving her hand every twenty seconds to gesticulate as my gaze followed her hand like my cat follows the red dot of a laser pointer. Now I'm waking up every night in a cold sweat and checking my credit statement to make sure no one took a pic of my numbers. No good, man. No good.

Meh. Meh. It's is subpar diner food for when you're drunk. I guess the reason I'm rating so low is because the service isn't good, not the worst, but not good. The kitchen looked disgusting and the smell, it smelled like dirty socks when I passed the massive amounts of dishes in bus bins. I don't know what else there is to say. Underwhelmed even for a diner.
(2)Lace K.
Decent, cheap food. Did it taste like it came from a box/can, as others have said? Sure. But it was dirt cheap (for being restaurant food), so I have no complaints. My server was GREAT. Clean restaurant. Big portions. My meal came with soup AND dessert. Never heard of that before. I had the seafood alfredo, and while I was a tad irked that the description said "crab" and I instead got "krab" (i.e. FAKE crab), it was decent. Pretty good for late-night fare; had it been normal hours, I admit I would have gone elsewhere.
(4)Rebecca M.
Huge menu variety! Every time I visit, I can always find something different to fit my cravings or something new I haven't tried.
(5)John B.
First time ever being here, probably won't be coming back. They did manage to mess up my order with another table. The food was bland, no flavor to anything. The place did smell clean when I walked in and the tables were clean as well. Over all, I wouldn't return return due to the bland food.

Here are the rules: 1) Only come for breakfast (great price, quick service, diner-style). 2) If you come for lunch, get breakfast. 3) If you come for dinner, get breakfast. 4) Bring someone above the age of 60 - you'll fit right in. You'll be upset if you don't do what I told you. This isn't a dinner-place... I promise you can do better at home... but the breakfast is great.
(3)Tim L.
We had the chicken tenders meal with the salad bar. Chicken tenders were very good. Wait staff is attentive. Salad bar is average. Food is prepared pretty quick.
(4)Chuck M.
The least impressive of the Greek traditional restaurants. THE MOST boring foods in uninspired combinations. Is everything from a can? Not surprising, the staff seems bored of the boring food as well. IF the cashier had asked how everything was, I would have said, "Uninspired". I can cook eggs and dump them on hash browns at home. I should have. We have good jam at home.
(1)Sarah D.
I like this restaurant enough to drive from North Milwaukee to eat here. The broasted chicken and chicken tenders are delicious. The only things I'm not impressed with are the dessert. I've always had good, friendly servers.
(4)Melissa M.
There is no bakery here and nothing is cooked fresh or from scratch. All the food is boxed or canned. Service wasn't so great and we saw a woman waitress run outside to tell a guest they owed $1.00!! Very unprofessional. Nothing to brag about, they have a salad bar which is probably their only asset. Typical Greek owned family restaurant .
(1)S T.
I wanted breakfast so I went here. I ordered the gyros and eggs. I asked for sunny side up eggs for that liquid yoke to run all over the hash browns and got a hard yoke. WTF is so hard for a breakfast place to make a correct egg. Runny yoke is the heart of breakfast in my opinion. The gyro was ok. The hash browns were slightly crispy. Over all ok and not terrible except for the over cooked eggs. Probably won't go back much if they can't cook eggs. I have to say that the capital cafe is still my place for breakfast even if I have to drive a ways out of my neighborhood to get there and the eggs are always runny.

As far as family restaurants go, I like this one the best. We come to Genesis about 3-4 a month and the food is always really good. Friendly servers, Alena is the best. They do a hoppin' business on Friday nights for the fish fry and it's great to see the manager out and about help out when needed. Accommodates large groups too. I have a few favorites and many of their soups are really good too. Love their Ranch dressing, they make it from scratch vs. the bottled kind - YUM! Don't change that!! Big menu, specials each night, kids night, appetizer specials, great breakfast, lunch or dinners - why would you not stop in? Definitely do.
(4)Jake N.
Standard greek family restaurant. Nothing too special here other than I can't remember seeing them closed. Soups are good.
(2)Andrea K.
Best breakfast around and great prices. Other food is amazing too. Great soups and salad as well as very nice staff. This is a must try and repeat if you have not been here before!
(5)Brad E.
I've yet to be wow'd by Genesis. It's a typical Greek family restaurant with almost every category of cuisine represented on the menu. The hours are the unique, selling point of this place,. I've had many a slice of pie at 11 PM and I enjoyed it. Speaking of variety, you can have the Greek chicken (great, lemony sauce) and rice pilaf, with a side of chips and salsa and soup of the day, with a side of pancakes and spaghetti. I cannot find a crave worthy dish at Genesis, There's no dish that they do best, in my opinion. Everything is pretty good and sometimes that's good enough'

We went on Christmas day at around 1:00pm. Out waitress clearly did not want to be there and seemed to have a scoul on her face the entire time. The worst part of it all was when my coffee was given to me - with a lipstick imprint on it. The waitress barely muttered an apology and walked away with it, throwing it very visibly into the container where dirty dishes are kept. She was rude and interrupted conversation any chance she could in order to hurry us out. I won't be going back.

I have been coming to this restaurant since 2000 & became such a regular that a waitress seemed to always recognize me &my son. The new salad bar is great, includes fresh soups. You just can't go wrong here with the vast menu, it's open 24 hrs & is a good stop at 2:30am or for Friday Fish fry. I'm a big fan of their wraps &the omelets, Sunday Bloody Marys are great! Highly recommend for solo dining or groups.

After hearing some good reviews from friends, we finally tried this place for the first time. We went on a Sunday morning at 10 am and only waited about 5-10 minutes for a table. As far as breakfast goes, their menu was huge! Lots of options for any type of eater - skillets, pancakes, french toast, omelets, etc. There's tons of options for each type of food. My husband and I each tried some stuffed french toast - mine was the strawberry and my husband had banana. Very tasty. Sweet, but it's to be expected. Hubby had some hash browns on the side and they lacked in flavor and were a tad greasy (only reason it doesn't get 5 stars). I had bacon on the side and it was very flavorful. Next time we're up for a big breakfast, we'll head back here. Our service was just fine. Always had a warm up on the coffee, got what we asked for, food was prepared properly. There were a few grumpy looking waitresses roaming around, but we didn't have any problems! Large amount of food for the price.

M in Genesis right now and have had a constant view of the hist for the last thirty minutes. He's been picking his nose, blowing it and running his hands throught his hair the whole time.. No reason to think anything else here is any better..

Visited Genesis today around 2pm. I wanted pancakes but on the afternoon menu, the combination of what I wanted wasn't available and it didn't list the cost of ala carte items. The waitress, who was very nice, got me the breakfast menu that I could order from but it would cost $1 extra. I thought that was a bit strange since they are a 24 hour restaurant, but OK. I ordered pancakes and requested they be made thin since the menu stated "fluffy" I figured they would be big and plate size. Well, requesting thin meant nothing and although they were plate size, they definitely were not fluffy. They were very dense and hardly absorbed the syrup, and not flavorful at all. The sausage links that came with it tasted as though they were left in the fridge uncovered. The coffee was OK, but I wasn't impressed at all with the food so I doubt that we will return.

Ok so I have a love hate with this place, I love it because the menu is massive and I can have anything at any time pretty much. This place is packed every weekend in prime time location in the hwy100 strip. The day service is top notch and the owner is usually on the premises. Rumor has it he owns an interest in the forum family restaurant and either sold it off or took his holdings and started this fantastic place. He keeps an eye on things. The late night service blows however, the food takes longer, the waitresses hang out in the kitchen, and they screw you sideways on free refills. Still where else can you go on a full night of cruising and still get top notch stuff? Prices, pending what you get, are med/high. Also a tip, walk your check to the register and pay.
(3)Ryan D.
I have had so many good times here in the late late hours of the night. This is an excellent place to go when nothing else is open. It's a typical short order style restaurant. The menu is huge, has just about every style of food and of course daily specials. The food is just average, but what makes this place so great are the hours of operation. 24/hr a day! Helpful tip: (For those who go in the middle of the night only) Make sure you ask for enough water or soda, the waitresses sometimes don't check up on your for a while. If you are feeling brave enough, just get it yourself.. Who cares.

Genesis has been a long time favorite of my grandparents. I've eaten here with them several times on a Sunday after church for breakfast/lunch. In all my early Sunday afternoon (or late morning) visits, the food and service has been acceptable. Nothing great, nothing terrible - consistent. On 5/18/2012, I went to dinner at Genesis for the first time. My wife saw somewhere on the menu that the bread is fresh baked or homemade or something along those lines (she read it, not me). When we got the bread, it clearly did not live up to whatever claim my wife read - it was cheap store bought rolls that you would expect to find in a plastic bag. My suggestion to the restaurant is either eliminate the bread or drastically do something to increase the quality - bread is not an expensive menu item, so at least offer something a bit more tasty. Next, I had some salad. Once again, it was the kind of salad you might find in the bargain bin at the grocery store in a plastic bag. Not terrible, but clearly not special or fresh. If you are a manager at this restaurant reading this review - go to Longhorn and order a side salad there - that in my opinion is the gold standard. For my meal, I ordered an all you can eat fish fry - it was Friday after all. I believe the fish was advertised as cod, but it didn't taste like cod. It may have been haddock. Something was just "off." The pieces were fried in batter, which by the way, seemed to be fresh batter. Freshly battered fish is always better than pre-battered fish - always. My only complaint is that the batter was excessive, so I basically had to remove the meat from the batter to avoid having a meal out of fish batter. Also, the oil temperature must have been a little on the cool side because the fish came out very oily. It is important to have a high oil temperature to avoid getting the oil soaked into the fish and the batter. The overall taste was C+ or B-. I would have been satisfied paying about $7-8 for the meal, but I think it is overpriced around $14. Desert was strawberry shortcake. In reality, it was more like cheap yellow cake with a little bit of frosting on it. I asked for whip cream and got cool whip. I give desert a D- or an F. The service was adequate. At the end of the day, I have to give a 2 star rating. It wasn't terrible, but I just was not impressed enough to come back when there are so many other options. I think there has been too much of a focus on management to pursue the almighty dollar at the expense of quality. Prices were a bit higher than what they should've been for the level of food quality served.

Food good. Busy hopping place. Dont let it deter you. Go and see. Reasonable pricing!

Good food for the money, BAD service

Warning. This is not the best place for good food. This place is another example of tasteless Wisconsin food that I talk about in other reviews. Weird tasting or tasteless food that looks like it should be fantastic. Once again I just don't know how they do it. They take a good idea and somehow, someway they find a way to make it bad. What follows is what happened for us recently. Parking was ample and the entry was open, well lit, and inviting. We weren't greeted right away but someone showed up in about 4 min. We were seated right away (1:30pm on a Sunday). There was plenty of room, a lot of tables, everything was neat and clean and the menu seemed pretty straight forward. At this point I had high hopes and they were getting high marks. It was lunch so I just ordered the Philly sandwich. Another in our party ordered the Sweet Sour Chicken. Another ordered eggs and hash browns. The hash browns went to an elderly man in our party and I have never seen him refuse to eat hash browns. I mean, how do you mess that up? He said it was like eating nails! lol The Chicken was very well done and of good proportion but it was on a bed of rice with some sauce and they both tasted awful. Two of us tried this and agreed that it tasted very weird. I thought it might have been the combination of the sauce with the rice and somehow they conflicted. Since we were in a group we said nothing. Now my Philly sandwich. I took one bite and sure enough, that weird wisconsin oddness flavor. I don't know how to describe it but I have had burgers, pasta, fish, gyro and now a Philly and they all taste the same. No flavor except that "Wisconsin weird". Maybe it comes in a can, I don't know. It had something that looked like meat but it was flavorless. so was the cheese and absence of any sauce. Philly Sandwiches to my mind are always dripping with onions and tomato sauce. There may have been some onions but I didn't notice any. I ordered some au jus in the hopes that this would improve the flavor but to no avail. The au jus was also flavorless. I really don't know how this can be and kind of wondered if I was losing my taste buds or something. Now the dinners come with a glass of wine and free dessert and the desserts were very good. So this is a good idea and a great touch. Too bad the entrees were so awful. We would never go back here if we didn't have to. Later in the day I just wanted to get a sandwich from somewhere I knew to see if I could still taste normally. I did and yep, everything still working fine. God save us all.

I love this place! They have a HUGE menu. Great for breakfast and okay for lunch. My boyfriend always gets the meat skillet which seems to be their most popular breakfast item. They have a spicy chicken sandwich with jalapenos on it that's really good too. And you must go on a Saturday because thats when they have chicken dumpling soup, which is the best! It's open 24 hours so it's your decent late night drunk food as well. The menu is more limited during late hours but still good. Prices are cheap too.

They do have one of the best Chicken Dumpling soups I've had. Decent menu, good prices. No vegetable of the day though.

I only go here to eat breakfast. Service is usually good, coffee flows freely. Best hashbrowns in town. Open 24 hrs.

I get the whole "greasy spoon" image when it comes to family restaurants, but does it really need to be so cliche? Unfortunately, we have one of the reasons why the phrase was coined, "Genesis Family Restaurant." Not every Greek restaurant is the same, but this one has all the usual trimmings: way too much Campbell's cream of mushroom soup-esque gravy on the biscuits, not enough biscuit to stand up to it; way too many diced onions on (not in) the hash browns; way too much cheese and not enough other fixings in the omelettes, etc., etc. The list goes on. We take it for what it is, the "greasy spoon," as I mentioned earlier, but this past experience made it a little difficult to gulp down our over-processed breakfasts: the service. Well, a little more than that too, but it started there. The waitress did not initially ask the usual, "Coffee?" to everyone at the table. Instead, she asked a couple people, but never made her way around. Then, my mom asked for a tomato juice. The glass was so dirty, it appeared that orange juice had been previously served in it, and then left to sit, and then the tomato juice was served in it. Yuck! Then, when the waitress came back with the refill, she spilled a portion of it on the table. Each entree ordered was plunked, literally, down on the table. The food actually "bounced" a little. I do not exaggerate. My mom adores a good, hearty breakfast served at Genesis, but she had this look of disgust on her face this time. She said, "I was really disappointed with everything. I asked for wheat toast, and I got something else. I don't even know what it was. It tasted funny." I, myself, ordered fresh fruit instead of hash browns. I got a humongous helping of hash browns and no fruit. I had to ask for it a second time. I think that the service ruined it for me, but my food was fine. My mom has no desire to return though. If anything, this experience has prompted a search for a better, if not healthier, alternative. I'll take just the spoon, please. Hold the grease.
