Listen up son. Your boy Kyle loves him a bar that has some shit talking characters. He loves a bar that has a pull tab machine. He loves a bar where he can walk in with 40 bucks and go straight floss up in that bitch. He loves a bar that has some fucking TVs because sports, Son. Your boy Kyle loves Franky's Newport.

Descriptive phrase: friendly neighborhood watering hole. Franky's Newport Lounge became an instant go-to after only one visit (and I went back a week later already). It's almost everything you could want in a friendly corner bar (if only they had space for a pool table!): TVs tuned to sports, dogs, varied crowd, amiable bartenders, and CHEAP suds. Most expensive beer on the menu is around $6, and most are $3 or less. I've had two different tenders and both were super, notably friendly. Newport is the kind of place you come to after a long day for a brew and to talk with whoever else is at the bar with you. It's no frills, but perfectly chill.

Been here many times for cocktails. A real neighborhood type bar, Sure it is "divey" but that is what gives it character. You can find the old folks to the derby girls here. Will be here again, and again. I like my reviews like I like my women... short and sweet!

I like the Newport. I really do! This corner bar/dive/neighborhood spot is nestled in a super-residential part of the Beev. Blink and you'll miss it, because, well, you'll think it's a house. Not that I get there terribly often... it's sort of on the other side of town. That said, I think it's a great little dive bar with cheap drinks, nice bartenders, and friendly clientele. It's a fun spot to visit if you're in the Bay View neighborhood and are looking to have a few drinks with friends is a super laid-back setting. Super Milwaukee, super neighborhood-y, and pretty dang excellent. Me gusta!

Maybe it's because I'm still sort of new to Milwaukee, but I am bedazzled by these Bay View bars with good beer on tap for ~$3 a pint. Or less. The dive bars I'm used to in other places typically don't offer more than Bud/Miller Lite. You won't blow through an entire paycheck drinking here. I learned on Saturday that Franky's is also one of a handful of dog-friendly bars in Bay View (as in, I sat next to a dog at the bar. A very friendly husky.) The crowd always seems to be a mix of people; not just 20-something hipsters or cliques of old work buddies. Franky's has fast become one of my standby bars in Bay View and one of my favorites off the beaten (KK) path.

Wow! Times flies fast when you have been having fun. I remember when Franky worked at Slim McGinn's and his dream was to eventually own a bar. As you can tell his dream happened and he is definitely living it! If you want to see Frank your best bet is to show up during the day when he comes down from his apartment. You have to meet the owner because he an awesome guy! In the past couple of years this place has become hipster trendy at night. During the day you get the typical day drinker and nights are devoted to the young urban hipster. They actually have different prices during the day and at night. The crowds are completely different but that is what makes this place a gem. If you are hungry order up an Emil's pizza which is probably one of the better frozen bar pies you can order. Frank will put on a huge spread for the Packers games. Packer games are great there but the only downside is that the TV's are not that big. If you have not hit this hidden Bay View tavern then you have missed out. Many of Frank's kids work there as bartenders. Did I mention that this place I vote as the "Best Place to Get Drunk for Under $20"?

Ah, nothing like a neighborhood bar on the corner of your block, 50 feet from your front door. Same regular crowd, same regular sights. And the pleasure of $2.50 bottles and $2 drafts of High Life. Added to the further pleasure of walking home. This bar benefits from being very friendly, in terms of patrons and ownership, as well as being in a convenient walking distance from other locations when you've got a group that feels a need to travel (especially on these finally nicer weather days). Walk out the door and take a right for Burnhearts, a left for yet another local joint, and a hard left for the BV Bowl and KK. This place was an absolute perk of moving where I did, and I'm there a couple nights a week.

"Dive" is so rarely misused when it comes to bars. We all know what a dive bar is and the images it conjures. Albeit on a scale that goes from fun-to-tolerable-to-disgusting. The Newport is not, in my opinion, a "dive" bar. It is a townie bar and a good one at that. A place that the classy locals go to for good, cheap drinks and that most esoteric of all bar experiences, atmosphere. And the atmosphere here is just about right. You'll see the 50+ blue collar types as well as the hipster types (NO! There are no hipsters in Bay View!). The lighting is a little too dark but not Bryant's dark, so you won't trip on anything.I enjoy the central bar layout which maximizes bar stool seating and makes it easy for the server to notice when you've sucked down your 3rd $4 tall, called drink. I live a few blocks from the Newport and drive past in everyday on my way home from work. It took a long time for me to actually go in. Quite frankly, the outside screams "dive" but the inside was a delightful surprise.

WOW! There is one word that describes this place and it's an important one. CHEAP!! This bar is so affordable. There is nothing special about the decor or an exciting theme that makes it memorable. It's just good cheap drinks with friendly waitstaff... and some days... that is good enough for me. If you are looking for a place to just kick back, and get a PBR with friends in a place where you can still hear yourself think, The Newport is your place to go in Bay View.

Ain't nothing wrong with the Newport Lounge. Absolutely no frills corner bar with good music, good times, and reasonably priced booze. Bartenders are overly friendly and this is a quality establishment. Excellent place to meet up or if you live in the neighborhood, a great place to frequent.

I moved to Milwaukee from the East coast and this bar is one of the places I fell in love with. The drinks are cheap and the atmosphere is what I think of when I think of a quintessential dive bar. The bartenders and the "regular patrons." are friendly and helpful. They have one pizza oven that makes quite yummy frozen pizzas and it is one of the few places in town that will show any Hockey game if you ask nicely! :)
