We were staying at the Ambassador for the Brewer game the day before. After checking out, we decided to have brunch before heading home. The Bloody Mary was great! I like them spicy and this didn't disappoint. Then we ordered several small brunch plates that were all delicious. The best were the steak and eggs, Belgium waffle and French Toast. Service was friendly and efficient.

We were really pleased with our multiple-visits to the Envoy during our stay in Milwaukee. It was conveniently located across the street from the hotel in which we were staying and offered a clear step above of what other options in the immediate area. A great place to relax and have a conversation while keeping track of some games on their multiple flat screen televisions. The service was calm, kind and took time to explain the menu and beverages available to us. The local brews on tap here were superb, inexpensive and large. The appetizer selection was extensive and we were able to cure our hunger pangs with a delicious and very appropriately priced tuna "micro-burger."

Ole Milwaukee, I'm not sure if I had ever had a good meal here until today. I was staying at the Ambassador Hotel and decided to hit up the hotel restaurant. I order a local brew they had on tap. Something about a squirrel? It was pretty good. For eats, I ordered the Ultimate Grilled Cheese sandwich and a cup of chili. The chili was pretty amazing, it was dressed with sourcream and cheese. The Ultimate Grilled Cheese? Which i later found out is not related to the Ultimate Warrior, was incredible. It had bacon, tomato, pesto and 5 cheeses different cheeses on toasted Ciabatta bread. If that doesn't sound good you don't have a brain.

Where do I begin??? It's one of my favorite brunch spots now. They have a menu from which you can pick two items. I ordered prime rib and eggs Benedict to start. The entrees come on small plates. The servings are not large but do you really need to overeat and if you want you can order more!!! In the consulate room, they have potatoes, sausage and bacon. Or you can have the friendly chef whip up an omelet with numerous ingredient options. The chef will also make eggs to order if omelets aren't your thing. I also ordered the Belgian waffle. Wow! This is the best waffle you will get this side of Belgium. I expected lag time between entrees but service was always prompt. They really did a great job renovating the Ambassador. Nice way to see a glimpse into Milwaukee's past. The neighborhood is sketchy but there is parking provided. Nice price. Great food and service with a side of history. What more can you want with brunch?

Note: this review is of the Envoy Lounge, connected to the Envoy Restaurant, not the restaurant itself. Okay, it has taken me a really long time to write this review. I really, really, really want to love this place. I love the building, I love the location, I love the hotel, I love my memories of the first few times I went to the Envoy. However, The last 5-10 times I've been to the Envoy, my experiences have been awful. First, the televisions they installed are right in front of your face if you are sitting at the bar. It is distracting, annoying, and takes away from the beautiful art deco space. I understand it is a hotel, but the televisions seem like they are everywhere- one or two would suffice. Second, the drinks are uncreative and expensive- I would expect a quality, expensive drink here. Instead, you get mediocre, overpriced drinks. The selection is about what you would expect from a college bar, not a beautiful hotel. Plus, the last time I was there, they were out of much of their selection. The food menu is inconsistent, and is now really basic. They seem to have removed the best items, including the ultimate grilled cheese. Seriously, they used to have some of the BEST bar food in the city. Finally, the service is awful. It seems like they ask the janitor to take a shift behind the bar- no professionalism or bartending skill whatsoever. Servers are not much better. The last time we were there, we sat on the patio for over 20 minutes waiting for the server to acknowledge us. We ended up leaving along with two other tables. I am patient, but I hate being ignored. Two stars might seem harsh, but it is especially sad that they have such a beautiful place in such a cool building, and they can't manage to cover the basics. I sincerely hope they improve.

Brutal. One scoop of cheap ice cream $6.00. Avoid the restaurant at all costs.

Groupon brought us to yet another restaurant I was not familiar with. The Ambassador Hotel is a renovated 1920's Art Deco building located on the "far west" side of Wisconsin Ave. This was a place I really wanted to love, but in the end I liked a lot. The Envoy is located just off the lobby of the hotel. Based on some other reviews I was expecting it to be in plain view of the front desk, but it was much more private and closed off than that. The decor is of course Art Deco, but overall the place lacked some kind of pizazz. It really felt like eating in a fancy restaurant in the 1920's, which I would think I'd like, but it was somehow lacking. Service was hard to describe. Over the course of our 1.5 hour dinner it swung back and forth from very attentive and courteous to "where did they go"?? We arrived at 6:30 Thursday night to a 1/3 full dining room, and were asked to wait a few minutes while a table was prepared (there were 3 of us). We were greeted by our friendly waiter, and ordered a couple cocktails off the rather extensive drink menu. They list the 1920's price vs. today's price for all the drinks---Nice touch. After about 12+ minutes our drinks arrived---If the place was packed that would be fine, but 2/3 empty--- not good. On to the food! My wife started with the mixed greens salad---perfectly fine if not a bit dull. I had the tri-color beet salad. Beets were once a childhood torture that I'm now enjoying more and more. This was a good salad, with an interesting dressing. For the main course my wife ordered the Monkfish as it was recommended by our waiter. She said it was good, but had never had it before, so wasn't sure if it slightly rubbery texture was the way it should be or not. My daughter ordered the steak with cauliflower au gratin. We ordered it medium, it arrived medium-rare at least it wasn't OVER cooked. An OK piece of meat, but $27 worth?---not so sure. I had the Italian marinated chicken breast with pearl onion, Jerusalem artichokes and parsley potatoes. It came in more of a bowl than a plate, and other than the chicken breast itself all the other ingredients to the dish amounted to a very SMALL handful. I know small portions is a staple feature to "fancy restaurants" but the overall presentation to everyone's meal was lackluster at best. If you're trying to be an upscale place in a pseudo-cool Art deco hotel, then add a touch of art to your food, rather than just slopping it onto a plate or bowl. Dessert was lemon sorbet (good) and a key lime upside down tort (OK). The maitre'd stopped by several times with a choice of breads before the meal, which was a nice touch that my daughter particularly liked. After we paid our bill and were standing in the lobby looking at some old pictures the maitre'd approached us and told us a little bit about the history of the hotel, and some friendly conversation, so we definitely finished on a high note regarding the staff. Will I be back anytime soon? Probably not, but I would recommend it to anyone that wants to try something slightly off the beaten path of Milwaukee's dining scene.

Slowest service at brunch today and all they did was make excuses. I will NEVER go back.

Stopped in for pre-concert drinks and were charmed by the Art Deco atmosphere and tickled by the drink menu. It features beverages From the original 1928 menu and an expansive wine list. Beverages were uniformly delicious and I will be back for the martini concoction that bubble and smoked. The neighborhood is not ideal, but if you are in the area and need libations, you won't be disappointed.

The Envoy is a charming European-style dining room in the Ambassador Hotel. On a recent trip to Milwaukee, I enjoyed Christmas brunch at the Envoy. The creative menu is expansive and offers sweet and savory choices for everyone.

Pricey, like any hotel restaurant. But warm and lovely service, a quiet dining room, a delicious rack of lamb, and a good list of wines by the glass.
