I like Divino a lot. The bartender is super friendly and the food is amazing. I come here frequently as there is not a lot of "nice" restaurants around the North Ave east side. Good pizza, outstanding garlic bread, excellent pasta and good salads. This is my go to when I want something other than a burger.

This place was amazing!!!! You can taste the freshness! The pizza was one of the best I have in Milwaukee, and he calamari was amazing. The atmosphere was very charming. It was super busy and the service was still excellent!! I'll be back for sure!

Ok place. Food was okay. Service was okay. I don't feel anything was better than a diner.

My wife and I were interested in some "good Italian" this evening and went to Divino's. We are so glad we did. The food was outstanding. The wine selections were excellent. The service was very attentive. The atmosphere was very inviting. We love good pasta and ordered "Pasta Palermo" and "Vongole." They were great choices. This was some of the best pasta I have had.

This is such a great gem to find in the neighborhood We stopped by here Sunday night and it was Devine. Their arancini is good must try (we had the meat so good) Crissa was our waitress on and we got to see her again today when we came in for the second time . Such a great feeling when you walk it, also a nice place to go for wine and catch up with friends for drinks. And their music selection is great which I love. We are going to recommend this to other friends and we will be coming back to sample more of their food

Pretty standard mom/pop pasta/red sauce place. Cheap and very forgettable. Felt like I was in New Jersey, but with friendlier staff. Wine should definitely not be in the name. The wine list was a laughable combination of the most prosaic grocery store wines ever seen.

First time ordering from here . Me and my boyfriend got the Palermo pizza adding green and black olives , along with the calamari .The add ons are a little expensive being a additional $2.00 each . They also forgot the marinara sauce ( which is ironic because I had read a review before placing my order in which they also forgot the marinara sauce in theirs ). Maybe they have a vendetta against the tomato side sauce ....That being said , it is amazing pizza and fresh calamari ! The delivery guy was a bit of a crab apple . We will definitely be ordering from them again :) May I also add the pizza has a air of fluffiness in which no words can even begin to describe , one must order to understand ! They also partner with grubhub and offered a 2 litter bottle of soda for free with purchase of $25 or more !

Overall very nice. We did not have a reservation on a Saturday night around 6, but they found a way to seat us right away, at a table in the corner by the emergency exit...but that's okay, no reservation. We told our server we were in a bit of a hurry, and she was very accommodating, got our order in right away and clearly paid close attention to our timing. The food was good, I had the Fettuccine Alfredo. Not the healthiest of dishes, but it tasted good and was a large portion. We also got salads with our entree, good quality of ingredients and delicious balsamic vinaigrette.

I wanted to like it more. The place itself is pretty, especially the bar area. Our server was very courteous and helpful with the menu. But the food just wasn't anything special. We ordered garlic bread that tasted like slightly warmed bread with garlic powder sprinkled on top. They serve regular bread too on the table....that's cold. Not warmed in the slightest. I ordered the Mediterranean pizza. I thought the toppings were fine but the crust kind of ruined it. It's crispy crust but really hard and didn't have much taste to it. Next time I'm going to try some pasta instead. Not a bad place to eat, I just think they could step it up with their pizza and attention to detail.

Pizza was very good! Waiter had a bit of an attitude? We will go back though...

I will NEVER order delivery again. The eggplant parm was cold and tough. The pasta was tough, like it sat out for a while, and with hardly any sauce. The soup was cold. The salad was pathetic, and the bread was MISSING. I expect more for what I paid. I'll take my chances with Pizza Shuttle next time!

We ordered delivery from Divino the other night, so this review is based solely on the quality of food and the speediness of the delivery. I had a craving for pasta after the gym, so I sought out Italian food on Grubhub and ordered online. I got: the eggplant fritte, the spaghetti and meatballs (full), the pesto palermo (mezza), and the funghi (mezza). The estimated delivery time was a little over an hour, but it barely took forty-five minutes -- I was so glad! The guy brought my food up the seven flights to my apartment, which I also appreciated. The eggplant fritte was good, but they forgot to include the marinara sauce, which was disappointing. However, I absolutely loved the pesto and the funghi (I had a bit of each), and my husband thought that not only was the spaghetti delicious, but that it was a helluva good deal ($10 for a ton of food!). I am definitely going to order from Divino again and will probably stop in to check out their dining experience. They don't receive five stars because they forgot the marinara, but also I thought that their bread was disappointing. But overall, everything was very good.

So Divino seems to be working out a few kinks.. but that's par for the course when a new place opens. We sat at the bar as there was a short wait for a table. The place was FULL. It was great to see! I felt a part of one big Italian family! Our service was ok at best at the bar. It seemed there was a lack of communication between bar staff - but besides that - our order came out fast and just as we expected. We ordered the Cipolla Bruschetta - Ricotta cheese, caramelized onions, rosemary... Really quite delicious. The onions were sweet, the cheese was creamy... it was a great combination. For our main dish we opted on two Mezza plates. YES. Divino gives you the option of getting a half order of most all of their pastas! BRILLIANT. We both thought that the Mezza option was quite generous itself and was enough to satisfy one person. I suppose you could opt to share as you would tapas, but it made more sense to order our own individual dishes. I ordered the Puttanesca. The flavors were great. Not too overpowering. My only complaint is that perhaps there were a bit too much sauce. I would've liked some bread or something to finish that up but with that said I believe you do get bread with a full size order of pasta and salad as well. With the Mezza you do not. I'm happy to see Divino off to a great start. I was a huge fan of Libiamo and think that this location is perfect. It's great to see another Italian restaurant on the East Side.

Great late night spot for some wine. House Chianti was reasonably priced ($25) and the garlic bread is good. The place is very small yet cozy. Service is quick but waiter had an interesting aire about him.

Cheesy garlic bread was great. The house salad was underwhelming, but the caesar was good. Chicken Alfredo was bland with dry chicken. The lasagna was decent to good. Really uninspiring evening.

Good things first: the service was excellent, from hostess to waiter. The wine list is very good, and the house wines are very nice. The bread was... crumbly. Dry. The meatballs were certainly moist, but almost flavorless. Fortunately this was compensated for by the sauce, though I had to fight with the noodles for any purchase. Overall, the meal was about right for the price, which wasn't high.

What a wonderful place! Great interior and welcoming at atmosphere. I had a hard time choosing what to eat, but went with the funghi pasta. The others I was with had the puttanesca pasta and Italian meatloaf. All entrees come with a fresh salad and well apportioned bread. The Marsala sauce on my funghi pasta was so rich and well-balanced and the curly pasta were perfectly al dente! Service was very attentive and kind. I'd highly recommend for a nice evening out or a cozy dinner!

Divino: Palermo Villa finally catches up w/ the 2000s. It's still all that same family ilk in the best way possible, meaning it's still Italian through and through. Ch-ch-ch-changes: The bar area's dropped ceiling and that dark and "cozy" vibe have been replaced with an open, airy, somewhat modern somewhat I'm not sure what (those tiles behind the bar... are they iridescent? Is that a cityscape?) type of deal. More lights, more space, more open, more Divino. The space feels a lot larger. While I didn't dine in the dining room (we ended up at a bar table adjacent to these really high booths), I was able to admire the giant mural/large print piece of a wine cellar on the wall. Cool!! The menu is extensive, and I when I say extensive, I mean extensive. A huge page of apps (veggie-friendly (think broccoli rabe or some cheesy al forno formaggio deal) and pro-carnivore alike), an entire page of pastas that can be ordered "mezza" (half-orders), entrees, and pizzas. They've got it all, kids. Be prepared to peruse and choose from quite the array of offerings. Our food? It was totally solid, but not mind-blowing. Though our pancetta-laced 'za was delightful, I found the mushroom pasta dish to be somewhat lackluster in both flavor and presentation (the noodles reminded me of zany kids' macaroni noodles, and the sauce was a touch runny for the dish). The balsamic dressing on the side salad was surprisingly awesome, however. We had a great bottle of Montepulciano for $38, and all told, a pizza, half-order of pasta, side salad, and bottle of wine ran us $70. Would I order the same things again? Most likely not. Then why four stars, R? Because they boast good pizza, great wine offerings, an extensive menu, they're open late, and I still have so so many more things to try. Looking forward to returning and checking out more of what this spot has to offer.

I can't say enough about the pizza. Stick with the thin and stress less cheese and thin crust. Add one ingredient to the pizza and you have heaven. Thanks to Dean and his sister Kathy for reopening. The appetizers are superb too!

Very good Italian. We came here on a whim because we were close, but I'm happy for the decision. All the food was distinct in flavor, and quite good. Get half orders of,the pasta dishes and the. You can have more than one of their plates to taste. Definitely I would come back.

This was very disappointing! I had food delivered, so if course I expected far less than had I actually been in the restaurant. However, the food was absolutely horrible! The calamari and eggplant were soggy, and the ravioli was weirdly slimy and (soggy - if pasta can be soggy). Too bad. :(

Good pesto pasta dish & my boyfriend loves his meatball ziti. These enjoyed with some wine makes a nice out of the norm - city feeling- Milwaukee restaurant.

I ordered delivery from Divino's last night as a first time customer. The food was delivered quickly, and it was hot when it arrived. The spaghetti and meatballs was terrific; the meatballs were tender and moist, without the gristle many restaurants include in their meatballs. Truly delicious. The homemade pasta and sauce were very good too; the sauce had just the right amount of flavor - not weak but not overpowering or too spicy. The homemade pasta was a treat; so many places use mass produced pasta these days. The garlic bread with cheese was superb, and the regular bread was nutty and soft. I was very impressed with Divino's and am considering ordering from them again tonight. 5 stars all the way. I wish I had found them sooner!

My girlfriend and I headed here after our usual stop, Hooligan's, was packed. We were looking for a fish fry, and wandered over to Divino. The friendly bartender told us they had one, so we got a table and sat down. There's really not much to say. This place has a great vibe--kind of an idiosyncratic formality that doesn't take itself too seriously. The waitress was great; the food was fantastic. I had the scallop- and calamari-stuffed ravioli instead of a fish fry since it sounded interesting, and it was damn good. My girlfriend liked her fish fry--not the best one she's ever had, but lots of fish and waffle fries of good quality. I'll definitely be back here. Kind of bummed I didn't know about it earlier.

I am new to Milwaukee and my family is nuts about pizza,. We've dined in several times at Divino and always had a good experience with both the pizzas and the pastas we've tried. Last night we ordered pizzas for delivery for the first time and they were excellent! We ordered six large pies which arrived with all the right toppings in place and right on time. The sauce is flavorful and savory and the crust is crisp and chewy with a mild saltiness--just right! All party-goers enjoyed the pizzas--many compliments and inquiries as to where we bought them. Judging from year-old past not-so-positive reviews, Divino's has been through some significant changes and, IMO, deserves a second chance if ever they have disappointed. We will return often and this is our new delivery favorite!

Went for pizza so I cannot comment on the full course menu, but the East Side still lacks a quality pizza place outside of Zaffiro's that isn't geared towards college students (i.e. Ian's, Pizza Shuttle, Toppers). Ordered the Palermo and Garden pizzas. Both were quite forgettable. While the Garden was slightly better than the Palermo both lacked in many of the same categories. Their pizzas have very little flavor to them. No taste to the crust or the sauce, which was rather runny on both pizzas, and the toppings were rather ordinary. The Palermo was an embarrassment to pizza. It was a soggy, greasy mess. Occasionally pizza is may be required to eat with a knife and fork due to size or temperature, but this pizza required a spoon in addition. Try eating it with your hands and all of the toppings would just slide right off your slice. I would not recommend going here for pizza, but would be willing to give their full course menu a try as most positive reviews seem to be for that portion of the menu.

We hadn't been there since it was the Palermo Villa, though I'm not sure why, since I liked it then and like it now. I hadn't even realized that it had change the name, since the Palermo Villa sign is still up in April, four months after the change-over, and that is what one sees from North Avenue. In any case, the new owners are from the same family as the old, and the overall feel of the place hasn't changed much despite some refurbishment. It is a family-run Milwaukee Italian restaurant, a genre I'm very fond of. really in any city, though Milwaukee has a particularly nice selection. If you like Italian cuisine at all, the menu here will have something for you, and I don't think you can really go wrong here.

This place makes Olive Garden seem authentic! Never had a creepier dude waitress before either! That being said I stick the garlic bread down my pants if there was ever any leftovers....

Such a beautiful transition from Palermo Villa! (I was a huge fan of Libiamo's too) Everything we tried was made from scratch & left us wanting to try more. Their cheese fondue was to die for and the rice balls were amazing! Great atmosphere, extensive menu items with great service!

A bit pricy considering its college central in this area, but delicious food. Owners mean well and want to service the areas crowd some good, homemade Italian cuisine with a smile. Good wines, great atmosphere above all I'd say though.

The food was very good and reasonably priced. The half entree is a perfect size and allows for sampling of multiple dishes. I recommend the special of the day wild boar ravioli. Service was a little rough and slow, but the hospitality was wonderful and apologetic. Note: the delay in service was due to new systems being added to track orders. Our sever Greg was wonderful and very informative.

First time back here since Palermo Villa days. The place has undergone a substantial facelift having gone from old-school italian restaurant to a much more contemporary-modern feel. My family and I went on a Saturday night at around 6:30. We didn't have reservations so were seated in the bar area at a high-top table, which was fine to start, as the bar area wasn't that crowded. Service was very friendly. Upon scanning the menu we had our first bit of disappointment, when we realized that they may have changed the decor, but they definitely hadn't stretched their wings when it came to the food. Carbonara, Calamari, spaghetti and meatballs, etc...Past fans of PV might say, if it's not broke don't fix it, but I thought with the obvious major renovation they might try and challenge themselves a bit in the food department. We all started with the included salads. Salads were slightly on the small side, and of average quality. My wife had the Italian Meatloaf, which seemed to be the exact same meat used in their meatballs, only shaped like a meatloaf, and served on a bed of rather undercooked pasta--not Al Dente. My daughter had the spaghetti and meatballs which was the best dish of the night. Large portion of angle-hair pasta, with 4-5 large meatballs---quite good. I had the Paglia Fieno, which was spinach fettuccine, with a cream sauce, mushrooms, cheese and cappicolla. Again the pasta was UNDERCOOKED not Al Dente, and the cappicola had the texture of shoe leather. Overall considering all the ingredients involved, the whole dish just didn't have much flavor. Our experience with the food must have been the exception because by the time we were wrapping it up at around 7:30ish the place was JAMMED with the bar full and large groups of people standing around waiting for their table to open up in the always full dining room. Prices were average with most entries around $12-14. I'm going to give them 3 stars because I'm feeling charitable and the service was very friendly. The food wasn't awful, just not all that great. There are definitely better italian food options in Milwaukee.

My wife and I have already been to Divino's a couple times since it opened earlier this year and we've had great experiences. The place is becoming known as a good restaurant, which means Friday and Saturday nights will be busy, so make a reservation. I love the atmosphere created with the open brick, woodwork, and flooring. I love that it's a family-owned restaurant with a very friendly staff. Above all is the food. They have some great Italian food that you will love. The pizza is some of the best, as is their Italian meatloaf, but I would recommend putting your faith in the chef and trying whatever the evening's special is. I'd recommend this place to anyone.

Great family owned Italian restaurant. The menu is a combination of the old Libiamo's and Palermo Villa menus, getting the best of both restaurants. The beer menu is expanded to include a number of different microbrews and belgian-style beers. I heard a rumor that they will be adding some awesome wings to the menu soon. Looking forward to taking family and friends here soon.

I know. It's not Palermo Villa. Still, when you reopen (same owners, same location, same-esque menu), you'd like to expect something similar. They certainly did not improve the customer flow through the place. There's still a logjam of people waiting near the front door along with two scrunched in tables and another few high tops. The bar area seems like something you'd find anywhere... not a quintessential Italian restaurant. Our pizza was pretty good--not as outstanding as it used to be. We always take our leftovers to the manager of Von Trier (friend of ours) when we stop by for a nightcap, and he agreed with our assessment of the food. I am not a fan of the new garlic bread option. The bread tasted too charred and not garlicky enough. I will definitely go back and give the mezza options a try and have pizza again.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
