We went for their Friday Fish Fry based on a review on jsonline.com and we were delighted! The food was just as wonderful as the review described. Succulent clam chowder, delectable slaw, delicious potato pancakes and the best fish fry (cod) I have ever had. The atmosphere is better than you expect when you head out for fish fry, which was nice. We have a new favorite place!

First: they were not busy. Second: ordered a glass of wine which they forgot about.. The manager walked by and asked how we were and she took care of it (the management is very good here) Third: ordered fries... No matter when you read this, I can tell you they haven't showed up yet. There were some other service errors. It just was not good. Things were actually a worse than last time, so I had to downgrade the star rating. Hopefully improvement will come next time. Still worth eating here. The food is good.

They don't have their hours posted anywhere, so when a colleague and I arrived at 10, no one acknowledged us even though there were plenty of staff wandering around. Finally, we got the answer that they do not serve food between 10 and 11. Lame. They let us sit at a table anyway and gave us a cup of gross coffee. Whatever. However, when we went back as a group of 15 for a business dinner, everyone had a wonderful time. The hot rolls were delicious, and the different soups and salads were great. We ordered from the menu, so there were many different entrees, but I think everyone finished theirs off. For me, the stuffed chicken with potatoes and broccoli was just fantastic. It really made me think of how long it's been since I've had a truly good sit-down dinner. Now, if only they were open all day, or at least had some way to alert guests that they are closed, that'd be nice.

Exceptional food. We went there on a Friday, my wife got a fish fry and I got a new york strip. She thought the fish was good with some nice crispy breading. My new york was a nice cut of meat firstly and was cooked perfectly as well. This is a hidden gem in this area.

I've read a lot about their fish fry so I decided to check it out. For $12.95, you choose from AUCE perch, cod, or walleye. Also includes a bowl of house made clam chowder or a garden salad, and the fish comes with cole slaw, crinkle cut french fries AND potato pancakes. Everything was good and at a great value for $12.95. I started with the perch and then tried a piece of cod. The perch was better than the cod (no surprise there), but the cod had a lighter coat of batter on it than the perch. All of the fish is battered. I prefer a hand breaded fish, but especially when the fish is perch. The fries were perfectly crisp and the home made potato pancake was one of the best I've had. It was thick and perfectly seasoned. The cole slaw was more crunchy than creamy. I was surprised that this fish fry didn't come with rye bread, or any bread, but I didn't miss it. There was plenty of food. Again, a lighter batter on the perch would have been preferred, but overall, I was happy with my dinner. I sat at the bar and received outstanding service from both bartenders who provided a team service approach. I would certainly recommend giving Allgauer's fish fry a try.

the fish fry was very good. after a couple of pieces of cod I tried the perch. I've never been to an all you can eat where you can switch which fish you want each time. the plate comes with fries and potato pancakes. I usually don't like potato pancakes but these were good. and service let me tell you after ordering my food was there in about 5 minutes. every time someone walked past my table it was "how is everything? and can I get you anything else". that made me feel like a VIP.

Went for a fish fry with two friends after reading many of the other reviews. We had only a fifteen minute wait before being seated. The dining room is very nice and the chairs were very comfy. The fish choices are breaded or baked cod, breaded lake perch or breaded walleye. We each chose different so we could try each other's. The cod was very good as well as the walleye but I personally loved the perch. I've been to places where they over fry it but this was perfectly done. We were served two pieces to start with a salad or clam chowder but I didn't have either. It also came with ordinary crinkle fries, a potato pancake which was very good and a small cup of coleslaw which was okay. We also were brought small rolls and two little cups of butter, one which might have been honey butter. The servers were very friendly and very attentive making sure we had everything we needed, especially more fish! I will surely be bringing my husband back for this fish fry soon. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner tonight.

I've stayed at this hotel (Hilton Garden Inn) many times. I've eaten at the restaurant enough times to get a good sense of their quality. The first time was excellent. It was a steak with fresh thin asparagus. Ever since, the food and service had been worsening. I recommend steak, and I do not recommend room service. Stay away from risotto and chicken anything. Don't bother with the pizza. The breakfast capabilities are decent. Just something about the customer service level that I can't put my finger on.

We had a shockingly good fish fry here. The cod was much better than the walleye. It's all you can eat fish on Fridays for $12.95. Kids are half that price. The cod was delicious. The potato pancakes were also fantastic. They serve potato pancakes AND fries with the fish. The fries were good. You can also get a salad or clam chowder. The clam chowder was okay, but didn't blow my socks off. We didn't have to wait at all, which was nice. There was one other table while we were there. The service was good. White gloves and all. My only complaint was that the complimentary dinner rolls were stale. Other than that, one of the best fish fries I have had, and one of the best potato pancakes. I can't attest to the other food, but the Friday fish fry is worth your time and money. They offer a good Yelp deal, too.

Not sure what the other Yelpers experienced but my visits to Allgauer's (breakfast, lunch, dinner, room service during my hotel stay) were quite disappointing. This is a marginal hotel restaurant. The food is passable but hardly delicious and the service is acceptable but hardly outstanding. As a result, prices seem high for what you get. If you are stuck in your room without a car or because of bad weather, then Allgauer's beats a frozen dinner from the pantry. But I wouldn't dine at the restaurant if I had flexibility to go elsewhere. Drive or walk to Ruby Tuesday's.

Looking at the menu, Allgauer's offers a typical hotel restaurant fare - chicken and beef, salad, etc. Prices are relatively high - and if you are staying at the Hilton Garden Inn where this is located, there is not very much around to choose from, so you are locked in. Fortunately, they had an "all you can eat" Prime Rib special for $15.95 while we were there. The buffet was relatively sparse - of course there was Prime Rib (and plenty of it), mixed vegetables, potatoes, coos-coos, a small salad bar. There were also some great looking desserts. The prime rib was tasty, but could have been seasoned more.. There was a great peppercorn crust that I was able to find in some areas, but the coating was not consistent. The meat was prepared perfectly - but the cut was particularly fatty. I had some salad and some of the coos-coos, both of which were very good. The martini was so-so. By the time I was ready to try some of the other sides, I was stuffed. The service was excellent. The servers were very attentive to our needs, almost anticipating what we were going to ask. The room was very inconsistently lit up. Where we sat, it was too dark. Around the buffet, it was almost too bright. But, as I looked around the whole place reminded me of the restaurants you see older people go to for the early bird specials. In fact, we're not young, but appeared to be about 10 or more years younger than everyone else there. To sum it up - food and drinks were okay. Service was great.

As an international traveller - I can give my perspective on this place. But while doing so, the context is that you're alone in a hotel not knowing where to go and have something to eat. Jetleg is on and your mind and body are not in synch. In such context I can recommend this place - a nice restaurant connected to the hotel. Salads and such kind of light food served. Very clean place and very kind and helpful staff. And the thing that makes this place great for travellers is a breakfast. It's truly offers a wide range of selections from American taste to continental (European) up to even Scandinavian taste. All from bacon up to fresh fruits. Of course you can get broader selection in 5-star hotels, but as you know traveling for work is by default boring, and this kind of breakfast at the room rate is an absolute delighter and reason to stay and to come again. So if you are staying in the connected hotel, don't miss the breakfast! Include it at the room rate.

We decided to take a chance on Allgauer's despite the mediocre reviews. I have to say I don't understand them. There are only 3 things that kept them from a 5 star review: 1. I am a huge French Onion Soup fan and although their's wasn't bad....it wasn't great either. Middle of the road is the best way to describe it. 2. The "Mac and Cheese" was a huge disappointment since it neither had "Mac" or cheese. It was a penne pasta with a heavy cream sauce that had a touch of cheese in it. So it was more like an Alfredo with Penne pasta. 3. They didn't have Crème Brulee. They did have some other interesting desserts but a restaurant like that...should have a Crème Brulee None of the above would prevent me from going back. Now to the good stuff.... 1. Service was fantastic! Our server timed our courses perfectly, made sure that we didn't run out of beverages and that we wanted for nothing...all without hovering or interrupting our conversation. She was very friendly! Really perfect. The manager stopped by and checked on us as well as made sure to thank us and invited us back as we left. 2. We both had steaks and they were done expertly I like my steak well done and unlike many restaurants, my steak was done all the way through with moistness left and not dried out piece of shoe leather. I had mine grilled with the garlic topping....DELICIOUS! The twice baked potato was good as well as the very tasty onion bread rolls that were fresh and warm. 3. The ambiance was very relaxing. Perfect for a nice dinner with friends, business dinners, or a romantic evening. I'm not saying that it's not family friendly but I was happy not to hear crying babies or rowdy kids. It's definitely a nice quiet atmosphere. Very comfortable chairs....I'd like some of those for my house! In summary....I have a hard time keeping my reviews short so if you skip to this let me just say....TRY IT....you' won't regret it.

My husband and I have eaten here only Fishfry Fridays since there the only restaurant that we enjoy the quality of the food. The only description of the menu is All You Can Eat. It was explained that I could have 2 pieces of fish (the Perch is my favorite). I usually wouldn't have room for more but maybe the 2 pieces at one time. Great place but a little less hovering would be nice.

Restaurant is in the Hilton Garden Hotel along the highway. My mother thought it was along the river when she made the reservations. Our Mother's Day dinner cost over $90.00 and was worth about $40.00. We probably could have had just a good of dinner at Perkins. I had the pork chop and it was dry and flavorless. It came with a giant baked potato and soggy overcooked veggies. My mother had the filet. She said it was good, but her mashed potatoes looked gross to me and of course she also got the soggy overcooked veggies. Skip this place and come into Milwaukee for a good dinner. I can't believe with all the great restaurants in this city, my mother made reservations at a hotel out in the boonies! Yuk!

Go for the fish fry, it's great! Not too heavily breaded, tasty. Not the fastest place ever but it reminds me of the type of fine dining restaurants that allow you to enjoy a nice long meal and not feel hurried.

we come for the Friday night fish fry and it was very good. The fried fish was great, not too heavily breaded, however, the baked cod was a little dry. We had a choice between salad and soup and both were fresh and delicious. On the plate with the fish we were served coleslaw, which was tasty, potato pancakes and french fries. The potato pancakes and fries were overkill, a choice between the two would have been fine. I highly recommend the potato pancakes!
