Stayed in Menominee this past weekend for the Eaux Claires music festival and stumbled upon this gem. The shop itself is a historic building in Menominee with red brick interior and exterior, exposed plumbing, and - presumably- some original woodwork. Big space with a balcony area. Set up with old lee furniture some of which is refurbished and painted bright "poppy" colors. Very cool space overall. They roast their own coffee and brew their own beer in-house. The coffee and espresso were exceptional in my opinion. I bought a growler of their organic pale ale and am just laying into it now - first few sips are excellent - I love unfiltered ales. Food - they have a short menu of items - some deli salads, bakery, bagels. We had spinach quiche, bagels, and bran muffins in our two visits - all very good. Environmentally friendly with compost able cups and silverware (and cans dedicated to compost) Love finding places like this. Would recommend it to anyone driving though the area -- and it's not far off 94 -- definitely worth it!!!

We were on our trip home to Madison (from Minneapolis) and needed some hard core caffeine. We yelped and found this as our closest choice. I love the atmosphere of this place. It's got history..including creaky floors. We asked for a 140 degree latte and a green tea. Both fantastically done. Glad we came here instead of a Caribou or Starbucks. Not sure if their hours are permanently changed but they are open until 8pm Monday thru Saturday.

I travel frequently for my job, and I love coffee. So, I have experienced a lot of cafes. Without a doubt, this is a little authentic, Wisconsin gem that sports some amazing coffee and really good vegan fare.

This place is adorable, miraculous, healthy, comfortable, sanctuary-esque AND serves tasty salads, smoothies, and coffee. I am delighted to have found it on a random trip to Wisconsin. The music was soothing. The ambience is so welcoming. I wish so much that the Raw Deal was in my town.

My uncle went to UW Stout years ago and many years later I find myself doing business here in Menomonie. What a neat town! It's very self sustained and community oriented in business. This Raw Deal restaurant is a prime example of just that, they brew their own tea, coffee, and yes BEER. Artsy crowd but not the type to quiz you on Monet, more the kind of place to see how your day was going. If you go, ask for Cami she'll be the one to share a drink with. I'll be visiting this place for years to come.

Stumbled upon The Raw Deal on a day trip through Menomonie, WI. We loved the Lemon Supreme Pie - looks like avocado but tastes like creamy, lemony heaven. Also enjoyed their in-house roasted coffee. Chill atmosphere to bring a book and hang out for an afternoon. Might be worth taking another road trip sometime soon.

Great place for fresh roasted organic coffee and raw food! Great roomy space with comfy seating....easy to hang out with a friend for a long time. They also brew their own beer with local ingredients! Nice variety of events featuring local artists of all types! You just can't beat the authenticity of this place! Great local owners committed to what they offer!

If the Raw Deal was in St. Paul, I'd hang here all the time. I love all the house plants adorning the living room type seating areas within this huge space. I stopped in for a quick mid-day raw vegan snack on the way to Madison, but I think I would enjoy a visit here for raw vegan dessert and beer/wine so I could linger for a few hours and enjoy the locals.

In town for a conference and came in looking for coffee. Tried and loved two of the juices: fuel (carrot, apple, ginger) and boost (apple, pineapple, celery, lemon). The desserts are also incredible and vegan and gluten-free! I ate a lemon coconut bar and a slice of the turtle cheesecake, and both were so so good.

I now give this 5 stars, as their craft and in-house brewed beer selection is the best in a 45 mile radius! Now if they can be open past 8, all will be perfect!

The Raw Deal is one of my favorite places to frequent in Menomonie. I work in town and, as a committed coffee-shop fan, am regularly craving a latte in a great atmosphere. The RD answers that calling without fail. Coffee drinks are just the beginning, though, as you will also find a unique spread of small plates and a la carte options, all of them wonderfully fresh and healthy. Vegetarians will appreciate having more the token black bean burger to pick from. They also offer an assortment of beers if you're thirsting for a bev. To top it all off, they've recently added a line of their in-house craft brews, which are DELICIOUS. The Raw Deal is definitely a gem in this small town, standing out from the many cookie-cutter diners, greasy bar food joints, and fast food chains. The atmosphere seems to be perpetually sunny, mellow, with good-vibes music in the background.

Definitely a place to check out in downtown. We stopped for coffee and tea. The ambiance was fabulous. Loved the decor. They had someone singing and playing guitar. Friendly service.

Wow, funky Menomonie! The Raw Deal is located in a huge, high, tin-ceilinged, wooden floored space , with over head fans to keep it cool, and the coffee roaster in the front window. When they're roasting, the lovely aroma permeates the building, and you just know you're going to get a good cup of coffee. The "bottomless" cup is $2! And the food looks great..and healthy! A small refrigerated case holds the raw concoctions, like portobello tacos, stuffed tomatoes and quiche, and a wide array of pies. I went for the brownie (of course!), and it was deeply fudgely chocolate. Tasty! This is a peaceful spot, cool music, and now, they're brewing their own beer!

Really cute space, great for working. They have the same yellow flowered couch I had as a kid, which is homey. And I love the employees--they are fantastic in a friendly and cool (but not TOO cool) sort of way. And they serve up a decent latte, too. The problem is that no matter how good a dessert looks (I had the chocolate nilla pie), when it's vegan, it's just not as yummy. I'm sorry, but that's just the way it is.

Raw Deal is a beautiful cafe. Extremely spacious, and very artistic and cozy. My usual drink is an iced (or hot) mocha, and it is such a treat. The regular coffee is also always hot & never burnt.

Great Raw Food Choices! I was down in the dumps following two family furnerals in five days, and their food was the best comfort food I ate in the entire two-week period. They have great organic coffee as well. I love their raw pizza. I also love their free wifi.

The Raw Deal is a quaint little cafe in the very historic downtown area of Menomonie, WI. They specialize with an all natural menu, based on organic, sustainable, and eco-friendly food sources. The food quality is exquisite, and with a selection of organic coffees and local micro brewery beers, the Raw Deal is the place to be in Menomonie. I've been there on every visit!

What an interesting place for raw food, veggie drinks, smoothies and coffee. There are a lot of different paces to sit and chill. The coffee was excellent and cheap. It was very quiet when we went because the students were still off on break. I can see it being a great place to study and hang out. I would definitely come back here again.

So I want to give this place 4 stars because I am in love with a few things about it. BUT, there are more drawbacks that I just can't ignore. Starting with the good, I LOVE their smoothies and juices. The Nutty Monkey is awesomeee! Their muffins are also very good for being vegan. This place makes me feel good about eating muffins every once in a while, which is awesome! Their pie is also interesting. Unexpected, but pretty good! I am also a big fan of the free wifi. One of the bad things about this place is that it can take a while to get your order. Usually there is only one barista working at a time, so if three people order before you, you'll have to wait a while. Also, the few times I've dared to try a meal item (ie: some sort of lettuce wrap), they have been lacking in flavor. But I will definitely come here often for a muffin, green juice, or a nutty monkey!

I give The Raw Deal an extra star for being gutsy enough to serve raw vegan food in an area known for cheese curds and bratwurst. Indeed, as the person working there told me, The Raw Deal's food has "challenged" many locals. The cafe itself is enormous---probably 6,000 square feet of vast, open space with a small balcony area, too. When I went an old man was reading a newspaper at the counter and a young guy had fallen asleep on a 1970s floral-pattern sofa. It was otherwise empty with Norah Jones' tinny voice barely carrying in the expanse. The desolation and eerie silence of The Raw Deal was a bit off-putting. I felt like every time I chewed my tasty, well-made "green burrito" ($5.95) the noise echoed around the empty, gigantic space. They might do well to get some more furniture and decorations and maybe add some steady programming. The food is made elsewhere and varies from day to day but is all raw and all vegan. It's on par with the quality of Ecopolitan (for those of you from nearby Minneapolis) and there's a wide variety of dessert options. I tried two flavors of "Lil Cups of Heaven" bon-bons, both of which were good, but only consisted of two bites and cost $2.25 a piece. A slice of choco-pie was also delicious and super-filling (it could have been a meal in itself) and cost a more reasonable $4.95, which is about right, considering the size of it. They don't have soy milk as an option for drinks, but they do have almond milk, which was a pleasant surprise. The service is friendly and the location is quaint in old Menomonie. The place is entirely family-run and apparently gramps even hand-grinds the coffee himself. If you're from the Twin Cities and headed toward Madison/Milwaukee/Chicago, it's a convenient pit stop as it's located only two miles off of I-94. It'd be a nice place to take a day trip, too, as there are lakes and trails within walking distance of the cafe.

really enjoyed my visit here this past saturday! i ordered a steamer with a shot of amaretto (delish!) and shared a raspberry cream cheese bar with my boyfriend (also pretty good). i also purchased a bag of the "evening in misoula" herbal tea to brew at home. yum yum yum. this place is huge! and serves food, juices, espresso drinks, and a wide variety of teas. the upstairs area has lots of magazines (some a little outdated--ie a November issue of Time Magazine), and a few games for you to play as you enjoy the atmosphere. i took off a star because i lost a game of checkers while at the raw deal. rather than blame my checker-playing-skills, i will take my sore-loser-spirit out on the establishment. yes, i am very mature.
