We came here for breakfast. It was very good. Ordered 2 eggs over easy with ham, home fries and toast..Everything was fresh and prepared well. The ham was amazing and so was the coffee. We will def be back!

Awesome food, perfect for date night. Ann's fried chicken with homemade gravy is to die for! I would be here every night if I had the money!

A dear friend drug me out to Mazomanie for what she promised was going to be the best burger I've every had...with all my hesitations I arrived last night to this quaint restaurant off the main drag, but to our dismay they no longer served their prime burger friday nights. Bummed and planning our next move, the owner came out from the kitchen and offered to make an exception for us!!!!!! The burgers arrived and looked good, but nothing special...but then I took the first bite (we had pepperjack cheese with portabella mushrooms *drool*) and it was AMAZING! I don't know how to describe it, but it just melted in your mouth and was full of flavor! We washed down our delicious burgers with arnold palmers, which again were fantastic! This quaint spot is one I would have driven by and never paid a second look....instead now I'm planning to take more people out to Mazo to help this couple keep their restaurant going...and to get myself another amazing prime burger....mmmmm! **In full disclosure they don't have a liquor license!!!!

This is the best food you will ever eat. EVER!

Bay 5..... Where do I start? I'd first like to address some of the other reviews about Bay 5 that mention the price of the food as being too expensive. The meat and fish that bay 5 serves is of the highest and freshest quality that a restraunt in Dane County can get. Everything is organic and gmo free which Bay 5 sometimes doesn't boast about and maybe they should. When you compare Bay 5 prices with other great restraunts and even some not so great restaurants in Madison they are very competitive. Another thing I'd like to mention is that Bay 5 knows how to take care of their customers. If you have a problem with your drink or your meal you simply just need to speak up and they will correct it and bend over backwards to do so. They may even make something just for you that's not on the menu if your not seeing something you like. Bay 5 is the most accommodating restraunt I've even been too and I've been to them all.

It pains me to give such a low rating to Bay 5 because I really wanted to love it. My husband and I came here after reading the glowing Yelp reviews. The owner of the bed and breakfast where we were staying seemed a bit luke-warm on the place when we mentioned it to her, so maybe we should have given that sign more credence. In summary, food was meh, though incredibly expensive, atmosphere was what you might expect for a former garage converted to look casually upscale (a bit odd), and the service was friendly, but very lacking. At peak, we were one of 3 occupied tables in the restaurant, and somehow the server still forgot about us. As for drinks, the server asked how a gin and tonic was made - I didn't pay too much attention, assuming someone else would be making it since she also looked rather young. Nope. The server made my gin and tonic, and it was terrible. I should have said something, but I felt bad returning the drink. Had I known I was paying $10 for it, I would have said something sooner. My husband enjoyed his burger, but the trimmings (mainly bun and fries) were definitely lacking. Overall it really brought down what could have been an excellent plate, particularly for the price charged. I ordered mac and cheese, which was good, but not great, and came with no sides. It didn't really feel like a meal, and would have been much more rounded if they offered a veg on the side. But like others mentioned, the cheese curds were excellent. No complaints there, except perhaps the price. In total, Our bill was $80 for an order of cheese curds, a burger, mac and cheese, and 2 mixed drinks. Some meals are worth that price tag, though this one was not.

The best burger I have ever had. Seriously. Juicy and full of flavor. I had mine with grilled portobello mushrooms and bacon. Unbelievable. While we were waiting, we had batter fried asparagus. The batter was light and crispy. It was nice to have something different as an appetizer. Unlike stated in an earlier review, they now have a full bar. The owners are great. Definitely worth the trip. Their menu does change daily but they almost always have their steak burger but other entrees were tempting. We will definitely be back

Bay 5 Diner is a must! Their food is spectacular every time we go! You will never be disappointed from incredible eggs or chipped beef for breakfast to their BBQ on Wednesdays to the Prime Rib on Saturdays and everything in between. Bay 5 will ruin every other restaurant for you!

My wife and I ate breakfast here last week. I had the homemade corned beef hash and she had a veggie omelet. Both items were fantastic. We also sampled the cinnamon roll and cream chipped beef on toast, those were great also. We agree with the past reviews, and can't wait to try the Friday fish fry sometime.

Living near Mazo has its downside--NO decent places to get a quick, good meal that you feel is worth your money. At least until last fall when Bay 5 opened its door...now it is our go- to for excellent food and service. The menu is limited but with a different theme every night and pizza all the time, you can't go wrong! The owners, Phil & Ann, are friendly and take good care of their diners and the food...wow! Wednesday night is BBQ night and well worth the drive to get flavorful brisket, ribs and pulled pork (the pulled pork taco is to die for!) The dining room is small ( 4 4-top tables and 2 high tops) and there is no alcohol served but the food more than makes up for what you may miss. Right now they only take cash but there is an ATM across the street. If you are on your way to APT, don't bother with the other choices in Mazo (you know what they are) and stop at Bay 5. Help keep this hidden gem open!

Finally tried it. We live 30 seconds away and ordered 2 fish dinners to go. Real good fish. Surprisingly good. When we picked up the food it was packed inside. We made the right choice by getting it to go. I do wish they would print out a menu or even better, design a web site that lets you know whats on the menu for the night. Will try the BBQ next Wed.

Phil and Ann are the best - and the food is GREAT..you can't ask for better service and friendly atmosphere! I can't wait to check out their breakfast menu too!

I'm reviewing this based on my stop about nine months ago. I came on Yelp to review something else and saw this place didn't have many reviews. So, things may have changed, but this was my 2011 experience. I've only beer here once because the menu really confuses me. They don't advertise in my town 15 minutes away, and until I read Miznanner's Yelp review, I had no idea when to get the bbq. There's always a sign that says what they are serving that day out front (e.g., "Mexican," "Italian") but I haven't been keeping track to see if there's a pattern. And it seems weird that they aren't focusing on one food. Most places can't do multiple ethnicities that well. We stopped one night because we'd seen the huge smoker outside and thought, "yay, a bbq restaurant nearby!" But there was no bbq on the menu. Weird. We had a burger and the chili mac. Both were superb. I was told they fresh-grind the burger there. Sodas were strangely expensive. The atmosphere is surprisingly nice. On nice days they have their "garage door" open and a screen hung down for a version of al fresco dining. Now that I know bbq is the Wed. menu, I'll aim to stop then. I just wish they'd advertise more so people knew this. ETA: Tried the BBQ. Meh. There's better in the area, but it wasn't bad. I had higher hopes, but in all fairness, that big smoker was all that raised my hopes. They don't take credit cards. When you charge over $10 a plate for food (and I believe it was almost $2 for a can of soda!), you really need to take credit cards. It's not "how the food stays cheap" at that point. The service is still very good. I hope they continue to make it in the area.

We lived this place- perfect small town diner. Great service, friendly smiles, good food. Light at the end of a rainy camping trip tunnel !

Best food you'll find anywhere. Best scrambled eggs I've ever had at their breakfast and I'm a foodie and almost 70 years old. Have eaten there with two different gourmet friends, and they raved about the food and asked for recipes. I noticed one reviewer complained about their prices and said they weren't L'Etoile. Actually, they are as good as L'Etoile and for a restaurant with this kind of food, the prices aren't bad at all. This is NOT a "diner," though; it is not fast food; and it's not "family food" and it's not inexpensive or cheap.

Update - had take-out last night, Prime Rib burgers, and it was seriously the best burger I've had in my life (and I've had some good burgers). Perfectly cooked and seasoned. They provide take-out on real plates (just drop them off when you come back), and I felt like we had a great "real" dinner at home. My son had a very generous children's portion of chicken fingers that were delicious as well. The take-out service was very quick (cash only!), and they gave my husband a complimentary bowl of their homemade beef vegetable soup while he waited. He said it was really, really good. Original review - What took us so long?? I normally don't review a restaurant until I've been there a few times, but we had such great service I had to write a review right away. Bay 5 has been open for eight months, but we just stumbled into it last Sunday. We were looking for a cool place to eat during the heat wave, and called up Bay 5 to see if they were open. Despite being closed and only offering carry-out pizza on a Sunday night, the proprietor told us we were welcome on in and enjoy the cool AC. We had a great pizza (margarita plus sausage - the sausage was very flavorful), and they even brought out some milkshakes for our two small kids. Food was great, hospitality was EXCELLENT (truly five stars here), and the ambiance was not what you'd expect from the outside. We will definitely be back, and I will update my review accordingly.

Went to Bay 5 for brunch while visiting friends in Black Earth. Best scrambled eggs I have ever had! Homemade corned beef hash was flavorful and lean, and the homemade bread was a perfect accompaniment. Service was friendly and the space was clean and modern. Looking forward to a return visit!

This is the BEST restaurant in the whole Spring Green area. We spend our week- ends from Chicago and eat here almost Every night. Favorite specials are Thursday chicken and gravy. Friday organic fish fry. Ann's famous pizza on Most nights. Best spaghetti too

We were going to devils lake to hike. the owner of our RV's campground told us we must visit Bay 5. thank god for Yelp as I checked them. out only to learn that Bay 5 is closed at noon on Sunday. we decided to eat first and hike second. arriving at 11 am , we were devastated to,learn that they served only breakfast on the weekends . Ann suggested that we could get some outstanding breakfast dishes that would make the additional miles well worth the trip. My husband had the corned beef hash. It was actually hash brown potatoes ( very nice) and quite a few large chunks of corned beef...such a treat! I had their daily special of shrimp omelet with harvarti cheese. It was delicious and came with hash browns. the place was a converted garage...very clean with fresh flowers on the tables with white linen runners. the garage door was open and a big screen in its place. Ann saw that I was cold and brought a cozy warm blanket over for me. I observed them clean tables when a client was done. They did not used the traditional windex but rather an antibacterial...and...they cleaned the chairs as well!

This restaurant was great in the beginning. They used to have a nice fish fry with a smallish portion of fish for $10 getting me to stop in one night. The service was fantastic and we have been back several times. The problem is their prices have continued to go up and up until I can't afford to eat here anymore. I last went on my birthday and the cheapest glass of wine was $10. Prime rib king cut was $40! We called one night to just check the price of their fish fry and it was $20! For fish!?! They had a great thing going but come on don't get greedy at the risk of pricing out your customers. It isn't L'Etoile!

The food is very good, but the prices are have gone through the roof. $10 glass of wine, $15 for a fish fry and $20 for a burger (yes it was big and high quality, but twenty bucks...?).

Traveling through rural towns can be scary if you're trying to find a bite. Half the time I settle for fast food just because it seems safer than the other option I have. We stopped at Bay 5 at my husband's request even though I was a little afraid at first. However, I was super impressed with the cute decorations, sweet staff and really good food (their specialty that day was pulled pork - YUM!) I would come here again and again! It reminded me of a roadside stop in Virginia, also unassuming, but with some of the best food I have had! The owners are so kind, by the way. These types of people don't exist anymore. We didn't know until after we had eaten that they only accept cash or check, so they said we can pay them next time we are in town. Of course, we ended up finding cash and one of us would have left in search of an ATM before we ever took them up on the offer, but the gesture alone was so kind.

I loved this place over all. I had a great experience here but beware it is highly over-priced. If that is not a concern for you I'd definitely recommend. Their prime rib was very good, and they make truly amazing organic cheese curds!! The building appears to be a mechanic shop but inside was adorable. Very delightful and relaxing. The staff was great. I left very happy.
