It's Mauston, but that said the food was good, the margaritas were good... but the service was EXCELLENT.

Hidden Mexican Gem in Mauston WI. A few miles of the interstate but the food is excellent with great flavors and generous portions. We were there Labor day weekend no wait and great service too.

This place was a great find - came on Valentine's day with my wife. Good food great ambiance for a small town restuarant . Reviews on yelp were helpful to choose this place.

Stop on your way to wherever you are going and get the Carne Asada Plate! So gooooodddd! Stopped in town for the night and we were looking for something different than the standard highway options and really glad we landed here. The decor is as fun as the folks running the place and the only reason not to give it a fifth star was that the tacos were rather bland. However, this is the Midwest and I guess they have to serve the audience here too. I recommend sticking to the more authentic options that are harder to find other places.

No delivery and the food is hit and miss. Sometimes it is fantastic and other times you would wish you had gone elsewhere. Good luck.

sometimes the food is good sometimes its not, I guess it depends on who is cooking that day. also one waitress had her kid with her who looks about 2 or 3 yrs old and he kept going over to peoples tables to watch them eat. we have 3 kids and he actually came and sat down at our table with us and when we tried to talk to him he didnt speak any english making it very uncomfortable. not the childs fault but very unprofessional. also ordered carry out one time and when I ckecked my food it looked like pig slop. on a positive note, on a day when the food is good its actually really good. just want to add one more thing, the prices are very reasonable but when it looks like pig slop, then not so much

The only nice thing about this place is the amazing atmosphere. Now for the bad: The guacamole had too much salt. The quesadilla was hard to eat and the chips and salsa tasted like they bought. The waitress had no knowledge of the food. Over all terrible food but beautiful atmosphere.

What a difference a year can make! I don't know what has changed (ownership? cooks?) but something has happened to Cinco de Mayo, and it's not good. We've been consistently visiting this restaurant for the last few years, and absolutely LOVED it. My ex is Mexican, and I'm very familiar with the culture and the food (my suegra taught me how to make several dishes), so I'm no hack, and I know GOOD Mexican food when I taste it. And bad... My husband and I stopped in after not being here since last fall. What the...? Everything was tasteless. Salsa had absolutely no spice and no flavor (I like my salsa mild, but still, it needs to be tasty). No more of the ranch dip mention in another post either - that's GONE. And the chips tasted stale, and even "bitter" - like it was made in rancid oil. And they were cold. Hubby and I both got the lunch enchiladas - barely any cheese on top, and the sauce, again, without any flavor. The chicken filling in mine WAS tasty, but the tortillas were bland. There wasn't much cheese filling in the 2nd enchilada. Rice was OK, but again, very bland. When we first bought our vacation home in this area, this place was amazing! Now... nothing to write home about. Too bad!

Took the kids here and everyone loved it! Great atmosphere, loved the unique tables and chairs! Cheese dip is great. Loved my large patron margarita. Kids specials all $4.99 with rice and beans. My husband and I shared the steak fajitas and the meat was incredible! Very nice and friendly waitstaff too. We had a great time and will definitely come back!

I've been here a few times when I've been up in the Necedah area for camping. It's a nice little Mexican restaurant, and given there are not that many good choices in Mauston, it's a definitely place to stop when passing through. Great Margaritas and good food. My only complaint is that it is on the mild side....not a lot of popping of flavor or spice in anything I've had. I'm guessing that's to satisfy the local residents who are not as familiar with Mexican food. Lunch specials are a deal--$5 - $7 for a great plate of food. Can't beat that. And their happy hour for Margitas is great also.

Excellent food. Fresh ingredients. I ordered the Paella and it was incredible. Generous portion sizes and very friendly service. I will definitely be back!

This is a new restaurant located in the former site of the Eastern Chinese Restaurant, across from the Kmart shopping center, near the Blockbuster. One of the neater things was that they offer an unusual type of spicy ranch dressing to dip the chips into. Their guacamole was a bit spicy for me. The other items that we ordered (enchiladas and burritos with refried beans and rice) were too salty and very mediocre. On the other hand, their tacos were absolutely awesome! My boyfriend said they were flash-fried which made them so tastily cruncy and delicious. I'd come back and just order tacos - I think they have some type of taco special to go. If you're in the mood for great Mexican food, take the short drive to La Tolteca in Portage instead - but if you just want tacos, this is the place for an authentic Mexican taco.

Cinco de Mayo is an unexpected gem. I am from Chicago and have been to one or two outstanding mom and pop Mexican restaurants. I usually order from the seafood section of the menu but haven't had anything I wouldn't order again. My favorites are Camarones A La Diabla (shrimp in a spicey chipotle sauce) and Shrimp Enchiladas Suizas in a tomatilla sauce to die for. The Enchiladas Del Mar (three cheese enchiladas with scallops, shrimp and crab) is excellent as is the Carnitas. My only disappoint is no mole dishes. I can't get enough of this place. Outstanding food with no frills.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
