We have passed by the Rail House on our trips to/from home and decided to give it a shot; we should have kept driving! The wait at the door was confusing. Hostess/Host? No. After five minutes, a woman appeared. Yay! We were taken to a booth in the dining room (which was much smaller than I had thought from the outside of the building) and we looked over the menus. Our waitress appeared after a few minutes and asked what we would like. What are the beers on tap? She pointed to a beer menu... okay... and I ordered a soda for my Daughter and my Husband began to order a beer from the list, to which she informed him that it was out. Why didn't you say the beer menu had items that weren't available? We ordered an appetizer (Frips) and the waitress asked if we would like a dipping sauce. We've never been here. Never had Frips, and had no idea as to what kind of dip we should have with it (it was not listed on the menu). We got Ranch dressing. Frips are deep fried chips. My Husband said he thought that they just opened a bag of chips and threw them in the deep fryer. We still had not received our drinks. No water. We had to ask for our Beers. When the waitress returned with our beers, we ordered two 10" pizzas: Meat and Hawaiian. When the pizzas arrived after a long wait, the pizzas were only top-warm: they had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. Luke-warm pizzas that were no better than store-bought (had they resorted to Digiorno maybe?). I tried the Blueberry Ale (not a blueberry in sight), but tasted okay, along with the Dumb Blonde, again, it was okay. My Husband had a Scottish Ale and a light ale. All of the beers were fine - but nothing worth stopping for - and not even good enough to remember the names of them. The 'Brew Pub' was only 25% filled (if that) and the service was horrid. Would we stop here again? No.

Nice place, decent food. The sandwiches are good, the staff is nice. There is plenty on the menu to choose from. Brewpubs are fun. It's always best to try one of their micro-brews - or even better share a sampler with your dinner companion. So that's what we did. I like the lights and my husband likes the darks so it works well for us and that was worth stopping in for.

First and Final Visit. Meatloaf sandwich made my husband vomit 30 minutes after consumption! Reported to Manager and he didn't even have the decency to return my call. Nice bartender but that is all. Would never eat there again!!!

Beer is decent, food average at best, and service is slow.

Not only do they have hand-crafted brews, you can get them 2 for 1 during their happy hour. Not so sure how their entire menu is, but I'm a fan of their muffaletta...it's a New Orleans style sandwich with an olive spread. It is amazing. I've tried others in Wisconsin and there is no comparison. Try it!

Average food, poor service. Nuff said

Their beer is pretty good and so is their pizza. The service can be kind of slow because they are so busy.

After writing a good review of the place last year - this month I again returned to Wisconsin, and since I was staying at the hotel across the street, I looked forward to some good meals at the Rail House. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. Over two weeks I went for dinner 5 times I walked away hungry and/or angry. From the increasingly poor service (1st night there asked for a bowl of chili, and wasn't told they were out for 30 min). long wait times (50 minutes for a pizza, only to get the wrong order), to just plain bad food (a steak I ordered was burnt and inedible) the place has gone extremely downhill. Other colleagues from out of town were equally unimpressed and vowed never to return. The girls serving are nice and friendly, but incredibly inefficient and there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the organization of who will serve which customer, resulting in continuously having to flag someone down to get served. It will be a while before I give the Rail House another chance.

Love this place so much. Best food in town. Cheap appetizers. Alfredo is honestly the best in town. Better than olive garden. Wish their salads came with something other than lettuce and dressing. Always receive great service, Never wait to sit. Never had to wait long for food. Always leave full and happy. A+

This place might merit three stars if it weren't in the cultural and gastronomic wasteland of the Great North Woods. However, having spent my childhood and numerous awkward family visits in northern Wisconsin, I was really delighted to find a place that had more than cheeseburgers, fried fish, and cheese curds. Although their Roma panino seemed to use beefsteak tomatoes, it was a freaking panino in northern Wisconsin. Most amazing of all was the fact that they had a relatively large selection of salads and that the salads did not seem to use iceberg lettuce. (Green leaf lettuce, ho!) Sure, most of the salads came on top of flatbread like an out of control salad pizza but the point is that for the North Woods, the salads were awe-inspiringly competent. The menu lacked some pretty standard salad dressings (e.g., blue cheese) but this turned out to be a virtue since it compelled me to try something called CUSABI. It's basically a cucumber/horseradish ranch and it was super good. Now that my family seems to have responded to my escape from the Badger State by rendering their retreat from civilization more or less complete, I am pleased to have found something I can eat other than fried cheese curds a mere thirty minutes from my mother's home. The one particular low point I should mention, however, is that my sister ordered the meat loaf, which was meant to come with vegetables, and the "vegetables" ended up being a dish of baked beans. It was a sad looking plate that needed something green on it and she seemed pretty disappointed by that.

A lot of mixed feelings about this place. I was alone so the hosted asked if I would like to sit in the dinning room or at the bar. When I said the bar she seemed upset so I said it ok I'll sit at the bar. Waitress at the bar seemed to be talking to herself the whole time about how everything that night was messed up. The other waitresses were nice and helpful. Chili and chipotle burger were really good but the burger took almost an hour to get out and was cold when I got it.

Pros: great beer, decent food, huge selection of both and competent service. Cons: they removed the dart board from the bar area and the menu is probably about 50% too big. You cannot specialize in everything. Stop by for a Friday Night Fish Fry and if you're lucky, a train will roll by earning you and your table a free drink. The Silver Cream is excellent and named after a long-defunct brewery across the river in Menominee, MI

Always love everything I order. Ok, well they are not known for their steaks and it may be a tad bit loud in there even on a quiet night. If I could pick one place in this town to go eat, this would be the place to go! A lot of the negative reviews here are obviously from people from out of town. There is a bar side and a restaurant side. All depends what atmosphere you want to sit in. It's a 'brewpub', you may not like every flavor they have to offer. My personal choice is the Silver Cream. It's not in a big city. This place closes at 9. Expect it to be quiet after 7. The wait staff has always treated up well, whether there is 2 or 10 of us.

Great service but inconsistent food. One quarter steamed wings were leaded with cayenne or chilli powder so much they were not edible. Server said there was a new cook and offered a replacement but our mouths were burning so we just ate the celery and blue cheese to calm the palette down. Looks like a fun place though.

The only good thing about my visit last night was they made good beer. I ordered the grilled salmon with rice pilaf and side salad. The salmon was burnt and dry and the accompanying dipping sauce seemed like it should have been on ice cream. The rice also was not good. The side salad and the beer was the only redeeming things that I ordered.

I'm surprised by all the poor reviews. I've always had great food and service here and on Fridays you have to wait for a table. The fish fries are very good and were voted the best in the area through the local newspaper. Beer cheese soup is awesome. The bar is usually crowded but I don't drink so I just enter via the restaurant side. They also have a drive-up window for takeout orders so you can call ahead and it will be ready on time. They do have a huge multi-page menu so you can get most anything. They also make great pizzas. I've found the food quality and service to be consistently good. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Old railroad decor is attractive and interesting. Well worth a visit if you're debating.

here's the deal...when you try to be everything to everyone you end with nothing. This may sound like some Zen shit but really I can't describe the Rail's flaws better than that. The menu is way to large, you can't convince me that the ingredients are fresh, just too much inventory. This is supported by Danielle L's posting. Furthermore, modeling a place after Appleby's is a failing proposition. Now their beer is actually pretty good and the staff is nice. It's just the food that needs a makeover.

Not as bad the reviews indicate. We were careful and had a steak which was perfectly cooked and the salad was pretty good. Service was very nice. Menu is too large so careful ordering is the watchword! Drinks were good and nicely sized. Wine is very weak, but there is a strong beer selection with 10 or more on tap and 20 or more in the bottle. Also, they are open on Sunday when most of Marinette closed! 3 stars - A-OK!

Got canned vegetables and instant potatoes with my $25 steak. Twice. The food is not worth going back. Also, if you're from out of town, be prepared to be stared at.

After looking at the previous reviews I wasn't expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised. This is a very nice place. Our waitress was very pleasant. The food was fantastic. If you want a great dark beer then try the oatmeal stout. It was awesome. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to others.

Service is ok but the blondes...and I'm talking the beers...are excellent!

Probably wouldn't ever go again. When I went in I didn't realize there were two entrances, one for the bar and one for the restaurant. I happened to go into the bar side. I waited there to be seated and after 5 minutes of the two bartenders ignoring me, I started looking around and realized there was another dining area. I headed over that direction and was finally seated. If that was where I need to go the bartenders could have at least said something. Now to the more serious complaint. I ordered the seafood Alfredo, which had generous portions of seafood, but all the food tasted like it was from a can. I can't believe I finished the meal, but I do get a nauseous feeling when I think back about it.

Food was decent, service was great. Taylor is an adorable waitress and very attentive. She kept our coffee cups full and checked in on us periodically to make sure we were enjoying our meal. When I asked for a couple of crackers she brought me a while basket! (Sometimes it's the little things that make a great deal of difference.) We will definitely be going back.
