Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Me and my husband had a hankering for some Mexican food. We stopped by this place for supper for the first time. The staff was very friendly. We were recommended the Carnitas Plate. It was delicious!!!! Very authentic. The salsa was amazing also! Its very nice and cozy kind of restaurant. I would highly recommend this place if your looking for some Authentic Mexican Food!! We will be stopping again next time we are in the Lacrosse area. Thanks for a wonderful experience and great food!

Absolutely brilliant and fresh authentic Mexican street food and traditional cuisine, served by a truly gracious and fun loving family. This is a must visit in La Crosse!

Good food and great atmosphere. Authentic?? Not so sure about this. More like Tex-Mex food. Guacamole was decent but spicy salsa was outstanding. Surf-n-Turf burrito was good. Service was excellent! Nice place and clean environment.

Delicious, fresh food in a cute little café

Simply put: best Mexican food in town. Authentic tacos and a Mexican-American menu make this a perfect place for lunch or dinner. You can't beat the prices and its eighth across from campus. This place is AWESOME! P.S. Get the Chico burrito with Al Pastor for $5! It's filling and oh-so delicious!

Hands down, the best, most authentic Mexican food in town and possibly the ti-state area. If you are looking for ground beef tacos, don't come here (they aren't authentic!). Simple, wholesome, made-from-scratch food is what you're in for: beans slow cooked on the stove all day, the most tender and juicy carnitas imaginable...you simply can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The prices are also incredibly reasonable. Seating is limited, so you may have to wait a while during mealtimes - but the wait is absolutely worth it.

My fiance and I just ate here last night - we were excited after reading all of the rave reviews....what a disappointment. We both ordered the Iguana-chiladas - he had steak and I had chicken. We had rice and pica de gallo for sides, I had to pay extra for sour cream! I have never been a to a Mexican restaurant that doesn't offer free chips and salsa so we paid $3.50 for what tasted like store-bought salsa and stale chips. When our meals came, the rice was cold along with the enchiladas and everything was flavorless, even the pica de gallo. It should also be mentioned that they do not have a liquor license so no margaritas and you have to pay for parking. They do offer beer and wine, but a margarita would've tasted better to wash down the food. It was really, really poor tasting and poor quality. The only good thing I can say is that the service was friendly and they do have good portion sizes for the money but I'd rather go someplace and pay a little more for better quality and flavorful food. Q-Doba is better! We will not be back.

My husband and I moved into the area about six months ago from Chicago, so we were getting desperate for good Mexican food. Iguana's is our new favorite place. The menu is concise but still has a lot of variety. All of the ingredients were exceptionally fresh (absolutely amazing for January in Wisconsin--can't wait for summer). Be sure to try the queso dip, either as an appetizer or on one of dishes it comes with. We will be back very soon.

Great food in a great spot off the UW-L campus. I've been here several times and not been disappointed. Service is great and they are quick making your order.

This was the best authentic Mexican food I've had in a long time. I had the seafood Chimichanga and the shrimp were huge! It came with a side of rice and salad. Not a huge restaurant but I'm sure being by the UWL campus they do a big takeout business.

Had the California Burrito and it was excellent! Great little place to grab a bite during the mid day rush. Better get there early because seating is limited. However, the outside seating is perfect. Food was delicious and the service was top notch.

SO good. I'd venture to say the best, most authentic Mexican in La Crosse. The guac is homemade and a must have. We have been several times and haven't had anything bad yet!! It's a little on the small side and is right across from campus, so finding seating can be hard sometimes.

Tried this place today. VERY good. Tops for this area by far. I had the chili verde plate. The house salsa is also pretty tasty.

Iguana's is a new, small restaurant in La Crosse near UWL. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff was very helpful and friendly. I am a very picky eater and I really just wanted a simple beef taco, but it was not to be. I ended up with a steak taco which was small pieces of slightly rubbery, but flavorful, steak wrapped in corn tortillas. I wouldn't order it again. My daughter is Mexican and had a very different experience than I did. She loved the food and the atmosphere saying that it all reminded her of her Grandmother. She had a cheese and pepper tamale (which she said was bland) and sides of beans and rice. I thought the beans were watery and had an odd taste, but she loved them both. Overall, I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for more authentic Mexican food.

Extremely good fish tacos with yummy sauce with mangos. Pico de gallo was full of cilantro. Side of beans was huge. Portions are generous. Ambience is a little lacking, but food was great. Highly recommended.

Iguana's is a welcome addition to La Crosse. Their chorizo tacos are delicious as are their pork al pastor tacos. I really like their taco salad as well, but don't forget to start off with some queso and chips! They offer more choices than the "borrito" place down the street but offer a much more authentic taste than many of the places in town. Sorry, but I don't understand when a fellow reviewer docks a restaurant for being more authentic. Can't wait to try their fish tacos! Oh! And breakfast on Saturday :)

I usually only get carry-out, but this would be my go to restaurant for Mexican food. Super friendly staff, very quick, and the food is EXCELLENT. You can really tell they use fresh ingredients. You can't go wrong with any of the burritos. And their queso is a must!

Great, fresh Mexican food at reasonable prices. Small place with an informal, friendly atmosphere. If they had a license to sell beer, I would give it five stars instead of four.

I'm from out of town and was looking for some good Mexican food and stumbled across the reviews on Yelp so I thought I would give it a try. I was worried at first because it really is very small only about 5 or 6 tables and when I arrived there was no one in there eating. By the time I left the place was full. I ordered the fish tacos and they were excellent. The fish was grilled and very flavorful. I also had beans and rice which were good as well. The pico is also very good which I added to the fish tacos. I would recommend this place to anyone. The server was also very friendly and it had a great atmosphere.

Nice place! It's small inside and casual, and the menu is pretty limited. But everything comes quickly and is fresh and tasty. The people are nice and the ambiance is friendly. Their hot sauces, red and green, come in squirt bottles and are kept in the fridge, so you need to ask for them, Definitely ask, they're spicy and delicious.
