I have to say, I want to give this place five stars so damn badly because it is, in my humble opinion, precisely what Kenosha could use more of... it's quirky, it's healthy, it's original, it's community oriented... that being said, there are some inconsistencies that I think could use some honing in on... I work in the industry, and notice that the city lacks a bit of the dialed-in service that you can find in other places. Understandable. It's a smaller city and everything. The waitstaff has always been so friendly and courteous. I think their personalities all seem to be great fits. Every time I have been in as of yet there is always a little something off- either we don't get our silverware, napkins, water, etc until long after requested (or is "appropriate"), or our food is different than we remember/ordered. This last visit, my mom and I went in for some off their awesome hummus!! And, it was sad to see the delicious green olives were off the plate and replaced with black olives... :( just a bummer. no big deal, really. there need to be alternations on the menu. I definitely get that! The one thing that is challenging is the salad option! We LOOOVE the concept of creating your own salad with a little fill-in sheet! We do it nearly every time that we're in. The salads have always been tasty... the first few times we'd ordered them we never seem to get everything we asked for on the salad. This last time, they didn't really seem as full and flavorful as we would've hoped. Mostly, I wasn't into the "honey mustard" dressing.... which definitely was made with yellow mustard. Couldn't get over that. The small rant aside, I love this place. I love how warm and welcoming it is, I love the cozy, comfortable spots to sit and chat. It isn't loud, or full of munchkins. It is a great spot, with the best tea in town (TRY THE KOKOMATE!!! WOOHOO!). If I was still around regularly, it would be the place I studied, ate, drank, etc. So glad it's been transformed. And so glad it's in Kenosha!

Brilliant. Just brilliant. Not pricey, totally affordable menu, wine bar, coffee! I can't get over how perfectly loungy it is. Window seat actually could be napped in. Huge stuffed chairs at almost every table. Cozy, romantic, just exquisite.

This little café is full of charm. Their staff is well trained and polite. Their menu is delicious and for the most part healthy. This is a place you can enjoy for nice and quit event. If you are thinking to go here with a group of 20 it will be too small for your group, unless you reserve the place. They have original works of art by local artists on their walls. This gives the café a gallery atmosphere. I have only been there during breakfast and lunch times, so I can't have an opinion about their night events. I am aware they have music, wine, and specialty beers.

WHY ARE YOU MAKING IT SO HARD FOR ME TO GIVE YOU MY MONEY? I have never experienced anything like this???!! We sat on the patio, placed our drink order with the server and when he returned we mentioned we were in a time crunch. He told us they were swamped today (only three tables full inside) and that would be a problem for them and they wouldn't be able to accommodate us. He then said we are closed. I don't know what is going on here? What restaurant seats a table, brings water and then turns then away? After reading this you are probably wondering if there is more to this story but honestly there isn't. By far the strangest experience and so far away from anything "Good" at this cafe. Does anyone that works here know what Hospitality means?

I really enjoyed my stop at the Good Garden. Very easy to miss and walk right by! Quirky little place with mismatched tables and chairs, local art on the walls, live guitar seems to be a staple or the french cafe Pandora station. They serve locally sourced, simple salads, sandwiches, and breakfast items. Great cheese plate! Homemade hummus in different flavors. I totally dig the off beat vibe they have going on. I'm a sucker for these sorts of cafes. This one is very different because they serve wine and beer, but are taking that and twisting it into a number of specialty cocktails. Think sake-tinis and sake-bloody mary. I think it's totally unique. It's owned a few local young and up and comers. They care a ton about the community and are super friendly.

My husband and I recently moved to Kenosha. We decided to explore and take a walk in the downtown area when we heard jazz music coming from a tiny restaurant at the end of the street. We looked in and loved the atmosphere! We were told to sit wherever we like and chose a seat at a table near the back of the restaurant. Our order was taken by a welcoming young lady with an iPad (nice touch!) and she brought our drinks immediately. We placed our order and sat back to enjoy the music. We were so thrilled to find a great place that offered live music and a lively group of fellow customers. However, our food took FOREVER to arrive at our table. My husband, who works in the restaurant industry, was not bothered. I got a little annoyed though. The waitress had to come back out (about a half hour after we ordered) and had to confirm my order. About ANOTHER half hour later, our food hadn't arrived yet, even though a table who sat down after us had already gotten their food and finished eating it. Fortunately, the environment of The Good Garden is great enough so that you can actually enjoy your time there if the restaurant makes you wait for your food. The owner, who is a visible presence in the restaurant, apologized profusely and told us that he was going to comp our food AND give us a coupon for a free meal to be redeemed in the future. It was a very nice gesture. Once we finally got our food, I received a plate that I did not order. I was a little disappointed, seeing as the panini I wanted sounded amazing. However, the food was very good and I was satisfied with what they brought me. The restaurant seems to be under-staffed (I only saw 3 staff members, including the owner) and the kitchen is tiny, so I can understand the wait, but I still thought an hour and a half wait was ridiculous. AGAIN, the owner is incredibly personable and really seems to be involved with the Kenosha community. He was embarrassed by the fact that we had to wait and really wanted us to come back. We will definitely be back because the food was very good and the atmosphere is perfect for a relaxing afternoon out. If this happens again, however, we will not be returning... Another plus is that they have options for people with gluten allergies (such as myself) and label their menu accordingly!

A Wednesday evening & the band was warming up. The three of us had the place to ourselves & were told to choose where we'd like to sit. The cheese platter was wonderful & plenty of food for 3. The service was okay but water refills were hard to come by. The main course was Squash over Parmesan risotto. It was boring, flat, no flavor. Vegan stacker was quite a small portion & not impressive. Serving sizes are small while prices are high. The ambiance is nice, comfy & uncommon for Kenosha. It feels more like a Chicago location. The woman in charge was very nice, caring. Overall the service wasn't good for being the only ones in the place. Will we return? No.

Food is fine. Waited half hour for a grilled cheese and the restaurant wasn't even busy. Not coming back again, it is not worth the wait. They don't seem to have enough on staff.

This place has an awesome ambiance with a rustic hole-in-the-wall French cafe feel. However, the food is mediocre. Their tapas menu seems to have been created for people who don't know what tapas is: Items in there are priced similar to their regular entrees, and the portions are similar as well. So you're not getting ripped off, but why call it tapas? And they're not even plated to make them any more share-able like it would be if you order a porcion or media porcion of real tapas. It's where you would bring your date to and order a bottle of wine and a tray of cheese and olives, but you wouldn't go there because you crave one of their dishes.

I absolutely LOVE this place. The food is great and they have wonderful teas and coffee. But the people that run the place (starting with the owners) are what makes it what it is! I'll be back with a longer report soon!

Great atmosphere. Cool, laid-back vibe with a little bit of hipster without being pretentious. I'm 49 years old and I felt very comfortable with an eclectic clientele. Check out their Facebook page to get more details on their live music and ambiance. Love the healthy menu that has nice portion control. I would give them 5 stars but I would like to see a more slightly robust menu. Perhaps have two or three "specials" that always change would be nice. The food all looked good and my egg scramble was delicious. I can't wait to see the nighttime scene with live music.

Visiting from out of town, a group of friends and I decided to eat here (arrived around 6pm). Walked in to an empty restaurant where the owner immediately insulted us in a "joking way" by saying, "I serve beer but it looks like you guys are 12" (We're a group of 20-25 year olds). On the other hand, the hostess/waitress was sweet, yet the owner kept shutting her down by saying, "She's new so she might not get everything right". I can only imagine how embarrassing/insulting that is. Again, not a funny. Owner soon left telling the hostess "If you need anything call me". Ordered, and had the cook and the waitress come out multiple times saying they don't have items that we ordered. Finally got our meals around 6:45 (still the only people in the restaurant) to which many of us had missing items. About 3 friends ordered sandwiches that came with a cup of fruit to which the cook said, "We have fruit, but it comes frozen so I wouldn't want to serve that to you". Which draws the question, why do you only have frozen fruit? Fortunately, they were able to substitute those for side salads. I, myself had ordered a cup of chicken noodle soup and oatmeal. The chicken noodle soup looked as if they scraped the bottom of the pot and put it in a cup; you could actually shake the cup and it wouldn't move.. not soup. As for the oatmeal, I ordered it with "the works" which was supposed to come with my choice of raisins or dried cranberries, nuts, brown sugar and milk. Didn't have any of those and had to ask for raisins (had to pay an extra $1.50 for raisins). Getting to the end of the meal, all of us just want to pay and get out of there but we're unable to as the hostess does not know how to use the cash register because the owner never taught her. She calls him for about 10 minutes and he doesn't answer to which one person pays all in cash and we leave. Really terrible experience.

A hidden gem, just reopened. Eclectic atmosphere, cordial waitstaff, and delicious food. Have been here twice in the last month, once for lunch and another time for their wine tasting & tapas. The service is excellent and they place a great emphasis on sustainable ingredients from local communities. Highly recommend their wine and tapas nights.

Nice people. Slowest freakin service ever. Slow doesn't begin to describe the place. Wow.

Eclectic and excellent! Décor is very original and hippie-funk. The chairs are all mismatched comfy upholstered chairs, tables are antique furniture, etc. I had the Portabello Mushroom Stacker, which is a salad, not a sandwich. It was excellent. My dining companion had the Turkey Sandwich, also excellent. We ordered the cup of soup extra and it was AWESOME. Homemade Tomato Basil soup, and the cup was big as a bowl.

Previously known as "The Secret Garden Café" and "The Secret Garden Café and Gallery" and the latest incarnation is "The Good Garden Café." It had been a year since I had visited the café and during this time the ownership changed hands. I was disappointed to discover the charming eclectic café and gallery had morphed into a combination café and wine bar, sans the eclectic décor and artwork. The café itself looked like it was in need of a serious cleaning, paint job and refurbishing. The mugs which our hot cocoa was served in were chipped, cracked and looked like the needed a good scouring. The menu, which at one time was as unique, has become dull and unattractive. It is so sad to see the café deteriorate into dereliction within less than a year.
