Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

BE WARNED! Reading this review may make you never want to eat here again! My friend used to work for this place, and told me he quit because they REUSE THE CHIPS AND SALSA. That's right, those leftover chips and double dipped salsa at the other table? It's all yours. I decided to go there with him for some fried ice cream, but I refused to eat anything else because he had scared me away from their food! My waitress was super friendly, but apparently this place is far from sanitary. Be cautious, don't eat the salsa and chips, or anything else for that matter!

Well, I was not going to post this review online but I have reached out to management and have not had a response. So here it is... I was in La Hacienda on a Friday night around 8:30 to celebrate National Margarita Day with my boyfriend. It was my first time at their restaurant and I was very impressed with our waitress and I loved the food. Very tasty! I did want to voice a huge concern with the owners about something that I witnessed one of the waitress'. My boyfriend and I were sitting in the part of the restaurant near their cute bar area, I was facing the bar. Another waitress that was working that night (not our waitress) went to the bar to make a margarita for another table. She had poured too much of the margarita mix into the glass apparently, because she took a sip out of the drink, from the straw that was already in the glass so that the cup was less full. She then proceeded to add different things into the glass and then take it to the customers table without taking the straw out of the drink. Even if she had taken it out, this is still not hygienic or appropriate. As I stated, our waitress was wonderful and I'm sure that this was just a one time event. I just had to let the owners know about this. I had emailed this to whoever run's the FB page for La Hacienda... and no reply. I called the restaurant only to be told that management was not in. Three times. I will not be going back due to managements complete disregard to me as a customer.

My fiance and I decided to try this place solely because it was close to where we were. There was a sign in the window indicating it had a lunch buffet, which immediately made me think it had bad idea written all over it. However, the food there was great! The had a fairly large buffet which included their most popular items and it was only $6.49/per person. From chicken enchiladas to taco salads, this place is worth a stop by! It was not run of the mill buffet food!

Service 5 Food 1 Atmosphere 2 Bland food that quite literally tasted like it was scooped out of a can, jar or box. Was not impressed.

Went here today after visiting Kenosha i never expect restaurants out of the chicago to compare to the quality we are spoiled with by living in chicago but this place was really bad i purchased the burrito diner also with a ice tea i took one sip of the ice tea and almost spit it out it tasted like floor cleaner, the waitress was nice enough to switch it out for me for something else and the burrito meat had to be the bottom of the barrel steak really bad with no flavor rice and beans where nothing to ride home about but where edible chips and salsa where ok not great wait staff was good i would defiantly not recommend this place find another spot to go to.

I used to drive 45 minutes (thank goodness it was when gas was much cheaper) to purchase and savor their fried ice cream. I couldn't find it anywhere in northern Illinois (although I'm sure I could have had some luck in Waukegan). Other than the dessert, which comes with honey or chocolate syrup, their food is also not bad. I really enjoy their shrimp cocktail appetizer. On the more negative side, it is a bit expensive for what you get. This is unless you get one of their loaded margaritas in which one will do you in. La Hacienda has a cute interior with fun Mexican decor and a dancing Santa during Christmas.

I liked this place in terms of taste and portion size, but the last time we were there I got sick from the shrimp fajitas which I am almost certain were undercooked. Good mango margaritas. I have not tried the buffet, but I have just had someone recommend it to me - I think it would be much more cost efficient than ordering off the menu.

Its okay here, but the hours suck.

This place rocks! The food is very good either by ordering OR the buffet as well. It is slightly pricey, but I think you get good portions. The frozen margaritas are fantastic...especially the mango! Chips and salsa are also very good, and the horchata is well made.

I love this place and eat here pretty regularly. The food has never disappointed, portions are good, prices are fair, and the service has always been excellent. Have I mentioned the pico de gallo? It is enough to put other restaurants to shame. If you are looking for delicious Mexican food and a casual atmosphere, this is the place. Tip: Check out their website & Facebook for coupons.
