Tonight was my second time here. The first time was a little better in terms of taste, but I forgot to write my review. The staff is nice. The food (chicken salad) was just about tasteless. However, we had the artichoke dip for an appetizer and that was awesome. My husband and the fish fry and he said it was, "alright." I'm kind of "meh" about this place. The decor is cozy and a little dated. The prices are standard. Thats how I would rate my overall experience: standard.

This is a nice place for lunch or dinner, it is quiet and service is great. They have a nice selection of items. Sunday brunch? They have very good Benedict's. I especially like the Florentine Benedict with a side of ham added. It is fresh! Not something you want to bring home as a left over, so when we aren't overly hungry, we split an order. It is best right from the kitchen. I didn't understand the hype on their Bloody Mary's, they tasted like a mix. And, if you want a peaceful breakfast, go early, it gets packed around 11 am.

I grew up in Janesville but now live elsewhere, in a very foodie city, so I admit I've gotten spoiled (maybe snobbified?) in terms of restaurants, but I love eating here when I come home to visit family. Their fish fry is great. Flaky, tender fish with not toooooo much breading. Last time I was there I had veg on the side, it was broccoli and cauliflower, very simple steamed preparation but somehow they were so delicious! Tasted fresh. I was impressed with some of the variety they've added to their menu and will return on my next visit and try some other dishes. It's true that the decor isn't exactly Modern Restaurant, but that's just part of the charm, imho. It's one of the better places to eat in Janesville that isn't a chain. I hate chains.

Let me start. For some reason we chose to come on good Friday. Bit of a mistake, waited fifteen minutes before I got up to ask if anyone was going to be coming to our table to get us drinks or take our order. Young lady finally came and said she would put it in for us . Few minutes later another woman came and again took our full order cuz the first one forgot it or whatever. Then a few minutes later again a guy came and asked if we ordered. Yes we did! Food came and it was pretty good. After all that I still ended up paying full price for a fish fry dinner and a burger. And two small portion appetizers for $50 ! Not worth it id say. I would maybe give it a second chance.MAYBE!

Have always been satisfied. Great service and food. Wisconsin fish fry is a favorite.

The food was just so-so. Great servers and booze though.

Soup of the day was beef barley vegetable and was excellent. We started with cheese curds and artichoke dip, both also excellent. Alyssa had a Reuben with "haystack style onions" and I had the broasted chicken. I had the dark meat 2-piece with mashed potatoes with gravy. Real potatoes with bits of peel and a good gravy. Service was quick and friendly and attentive. They have about a dozen beers on tap plus many more in bottles (or cans, I didn't pay enough attention to that side of the menu). They also have a good number of specialty drinks. We will be going back with family. It's definitely a new favorite.

After eating here again, I feel that I do want to improve my first review slightly. I went here for brunch on Father's Day, and got their French Toast. it was perhaps the best french toast I've ever had. They use a homemade cinnamon bread, and it is to die for. Their eggs are also great. I highly recommend their weekend breakfasts. As before, the service was great, and the place has a nice atmosphere. However, as I also said, it does cater the 40+ crowd, so I recommend it for older people, and families. This isn't a place I would take my friends on the weekend, but it is still good.

We held our daughter's wedding reception here a while back, and to our delight, we're still hearing from our guests about how great the food was. We didn't want the usual pasta-with-too-little-sauce and overcooked chicken breast that we've gotten at weddings so many times before, and we weren't disappointed. The owner was very easy to work with and gave us some great suggestions for entrees. The pot roast was fantastic, tender and flavorful. Fresh green beans were perfectly cooked. Side dishes and salads were tasty and fresh. One guest had special dietary requirements and was so pleased with the entree the restaurant made just for them. The service was professional. We couldn't have asked for more. Since then, we've gone back several times for lunch and dinner. We like their steak with haystack onions; my husband particularly likes their tiramisu for dessert. The Milwaukee Grill has become our favorite restaurant in Janesville.

Stopped here on our way to Chicago a few weekends ago. Not much to say about the food besides the veggie burger patty didn't taste like anything, and the apple pecan salad with cranberry dressing was too tart to finish, except the romaine lettuce as the base was a really odd choice - spring mix would have been better. Service was friendly, though.

So I ordered the broasted chicken. As a southerner I was kind of confused if it was a roasted if it was braised chicken. So in order to avoid looking like a tourist just pretended like I knew what it was. So once I get my plate and I noticed that okay is similar to fried chicken. I noticed the crust was so crunchy and the inside of the chicken was so moist. Without offending my mom this may be the best chicken I've ever ever tasted. Only thing close I can compare it to is Miss Thelma's in Bridgeport Connecticut. But nevertheless it was one of the best pieces chicken I have ever had. As I'm eating my broasted chicken I'm texting my business colleague to tell him that our plans for Buffalo wild wings on Monday has been changed. We will now go to the Milwaukee grill to get broasted chicken Sorry for the long review about the broasted chicken but I will update this tomorrow at the expense my Monday night football at this place

I visit Janesville from time to time for business. Milwaukee Grill is always my go to. Excellent beet salad and salmon. Good wine list and cocktails. Super friendly staff. Great deserts. I highly recommend it.

Pretty good place. Hopping on a Friday and with what appear to be mostly locals. Right off the interstate but hidden away a little. I had the everyday fish fry and it was a little dry. Onion loaf was ok, and I am guessing it was trying not to be as decadent as what I am used to in an onion loaf. Would have been pretty great if I did not have anything to compare it to. Great service and atmosphere for a small town spot. Good beer selection as well. Will likely find my way back here soon.

I've dined here several times and have never been let down. Food has always been excellent. They cross utilize some of their product, so if you order spinach artichoke dip, the pasta with artichokes, and the tuscan chicken sandwich, you're basically getting the dip over and over. Anyways, the pork tacos are really good along with the squash quesadillas, and spicy chicken sandwich with grilled pineapple and jalapeños. The bathrooms are very clean and recently remodeled. Service is great.

Tried the broasted chicken and fish fry combo. Both worth a try. Fish taco and chicken salad was also recommended by the waitress.

Busy Friday night, we were told an hour and a half wait for our party of seven. We were able to score a few Barstools and within 30 minutes we were seated. This is my favorite restaurant in Janesville! Good service, great food, honest pricing. Blackened shrimp tacos were superb! My party had fish fry, which they loved. Fish tacos, which were really good. And a steak, which didn't have a lot of flavor, but may have been the cut. We will definitely be back! Everything was wonderful!

Favorite place in town:-) I love the perch and broasted chicken. The cheese curds are awesome. I also like the root veggie salad and the black bean and squash quesadilla...

We had a new waitress when we went there for our date night a few Thursdays ago. She was nice, friendly, and we were seated right away. I felt like we were definitely the youngest people in the room, being the ripe old age of 27. The food came out fast and our steaks were cooked perfectly to order. Which is something you expect from a place that pretty much only serves Steak and Chicken. I got the baked potato, which was ok, but might have been sitting under a warmer for awhile before it landed on my plate. The BF got onion rings, which turned out to be just a jumbo pile of the onion rings you automatically got when you ordered a steak. Wish they would have explained that to us, and he probably would have gotten the potato instead. The bill was reasonable and the food was served quickly, so overall, I liked the place and will probably go back.

If you're under 65, look elsewhere. I won't give this place a 1 star rating because the food wasn't awful... it just wasn't good and very much not worth the price. Dark and dingy atmosphere and mediocre service.

Had chicken salad with fresh fruit, and the broasted chicken with garlic mashed potatoes. Sat out on patio with our dog (we were traveling). Brought dog water...so nice and thoughtful. Good, very friendly service. Great food. We will be back!!

The food here is great! Every time I'm there, though, I can't help but think to myself how badly in need this place is of a renovation. I feel like I'm out for dinner at my grandma's favorite restaurant.

I went here with my parents. Though it was busy on a Fri. night at 7:30pm, we only had to wait for 15 minutes. All three of us ordered salads and they were excellent. Very large portion size, no browned edges and the bread it came with was tasty. My dad enjoyed his chili as well. Locally owned - several vegetarian options like a Veggie Burger and the Harvest Salad (which I ate). Will definitely be back (oh - and their popcorn we ate while waiting at the bar was excellent).

How long has Milwaukee Grill been slinging fish fry, steak, burgers and salad in Janesville? It must be a long time because I remember having family dinners here since I was a tiny Janesvilleite. Now that I am a Seattleite, I love heading over to the Milwaukee Grill for a fresh salad, fish fry, and an amazing Bloody Mary in their dark and cozy little corner of my hometown. When the weather is treating you right, be sure to dine on their back patio. A relaxing way to spend a Wisconsin day.

Very much an older supper club, but very happy with food (perch, hash browns and slaw) recommended by the very accommodating bartender. Acceptable wine list, nice local beer choices on tap. Relaxing enjoyable visit!

Probably the best food in Janesville! Being from out of town, it was refreshing to have food that wasn't the typical food chain type place. Great cheese curds, yummy salads, nice service!

Had the grilled chicken Asiago not grilled. Potatoes were instant. Broccoli wasn't even cooked. Yuk

We found this place while staying at the Holiday Inn nearby. Great local place - we were all surprised by the quality of the menu. We will definitely be back next time we are in town.

This is a little late in coming. Forgot to leave a review. Food was excellent, portion size was large. I had the cod with fries, coleslaw and a dinner salad. Service was great and overall a great experience. I would return again when back in Janesville.

Had to stop in Janesville so we searched our phones and found this place since we didn't want to visit a chain restaurant. I had the black bean and squash quesadillas and my husband had the fish tacos. Both were very fresh and tasty. Taylor at the bar made us very comfortable and the bartender who replaced him (didn't get her name) was also super friendly. If I'm in the area again, I would definitely dine here again.

We recently came here for a wedding and didn't really know much about the place ahead of time. From the outside, it doesn't look like much so we weren't sure what to expect. As you can guess from the five stars, things were great! To start, I like that when you come in you can go straight to their party room and not have to cut through the restaurant. There were two women serving the buffet style dinner, busing tables, tending the bar - they did everything. They were speedy and friendly. Now - the food. Aside from an Armenian feast that I enjoyed at one wedding, I have never enjoyed wedding food. And as a vegan, I can pretty much look forward to pasta and cheap sauce most of the time (at weddings, at least - the rest of the time I enjoy an abundance of options! Anyway...). However, a vegan dish had been requested for me ahead of time and I was not disappointed. I received a plate overflowing with fresh vegetables and wild rice, nicely seasoned and made with just enough oil to feel decadent. Let me stress that freshness factor - everything was crisp and perfectly cooked. No godawful canned mushrooms on that plate! I was thrilled. And my omnivore bf said the pot roast he had was killer. In fact, everyone had only good things to say about the food. If this is how good their wedding food is, I can only imagine that their restaurant options are just as tasty. And to the owners - thanks for including vegan options!

Holy cow what a surprise! We found this on yelp and decided to try it. We will be back many times. Great service, nice drink selection, good apps but the entries are outstanding. Try the grilled burrito. My wife had the filet and it was cooked perfect and SO tender. We even had our 2 year old with is and it was great for her as well. Seriously you have got to try this place out!!!!

Voted best fish fry 2011 in Janesville? These people must not get out much. The only good thing about the cod was that it was crispy. Other than that it was taste less. Hashbrowns were good. The hostess was not very hospitable, and the service was slow. From the time we were seated it was about 15-20 mins before we got to give our order. The waitress was for the most part friendly. I would say don't waste your money on the fish fry!

My first time dinning here. My husband has always said good things about it so we finally made a trip down to Janesville for dinner. We went on a Saturday night around 7 pm and put our name in at the hostess desk which they said it was about a 35 minute wait. So we went to the bar for a drink while we waited, which was packed with people doing the same as us. One of the bartenders was very funny and friendly. She's the one who made some suggestions as to what on the menu was good. Once seated near the fireplace in the main dining area I ordered the Grilled Burrito as recommended by the bartender. They brought iced water to our table right away with a cute water craft to refill your waters. We ordered a small artichoke dip to share. We enjoyed it but was disappointed that it had only 5-6 pieces of bread. Luckily they brought out a basket of table bread with my husbands soup that we used to finish off are artichoke appetizer. The bread was very tasty, probably the best table bread I've had. It was fresh and warm and very soft. Our meals came shortly after finishing the soup and appetizer. My Grilled burrito was very good. It had Grilled Burrito your choice of braised pork or blackened chicken (I had the pork), cheddar & pepper jack cheeses and rice blend stuffed in a large flour tortilla and finished on the grill. Drizzled with fresh tomatillo sauce and chipotle ranch sauce. Served with sweet corn cakes, black beans, salsa and sour cream. I enjoyed every bit of the dish. My husband had the Filet Medallions (Lean and tender, 8 oz. filet medallions) that came with the soup, onion tangles, and your choice of potatoe). He enjoyed his meal as well. Our seasonal specialty drinks were very much enjoyed as well. I especially like the taste of my Carmel Appletini!! Mainly gave it 4 stars for the wait with a small limited area to wait I . And though the fireplace was very nice, the dining room was very warm for my husband and I. We were happy to not be seated at the tables right next to it!

Don't get steak here. They don't know what medium rare means. I got a filet that was next to raw with an ice cold center when I asked for medium rare. When I asked for it to be cooked a little more so it would not pose a health issue, they brought me back the charred remains of my steak. Also don't sit out back the flies are a nightmare.

Had the blackened cod and onion straws and it was great. Service was good and atmosphere was pleasant. Daughter had the filet sandwich which was also excellent.

I really enjoy this place for a Friday night dinner date. They don't take reservations and in the past were slammed on Friday nights (could barely find standing room to wait for a table) but the past few visits weren't nearly as busy. We like the cheese board, fish & chicken combo, burrito and fish tacos.

I was here on business and the woman at my hotel recommended this place to eat. I sat at the bar and the service was great. Had my first spotted cow beer which was awesome! The food was great enough that I took a detour my second day to eat here a second time. Highly recommend the spinach artichoke dip and the fried cheese curd!

Good food and service. One of my parents favorite spot to go. Their demographic steers towards the elderly but have tv's to watch games, good appetizers, and beer.

Had their 2 piece broasted chicken. It was flavorful and mine was moist. Daughter said hers was dry. I got shredded onion rings as my side but didnt eat most of them because they were odd. Was it a thin batter or no batter or what. IDK but not tasty. Iced tea was good and server topped it off x3. Service was excellent. Place was crowded but she came back frequently to let us know status and then inquire how we were doing. Place was clean and well lit.

Ordered the spicy shrimp as a meal. The menu stated that it was a good size plate that would be an appitizer for 3-4 people or a good size meal for 1-2 people. Well the plate come out with about 8 small shrimp and a loaf of cut up toasted bread. The food was very good but nowhere near worth the price. Our waitress was horrible.my husband ordered the all you can eat chicken. It took forever to get his second plate. They charged extra for potato on the second plate. I was really wanting a dessert but the waitress never even offered. I will never go back or recommend this place to anyone!

Nice family-owned place. Fish was good. Not too breaded. Favorite was spotted cow on tap!

This is a true local restaurant and one of the few non-chain restaurants my family and I go to. Normally we call in and carry out as it is just easier for us this way. The atmosphere is great but not necessarily small kid friendly. There is a limited amount of seating, so on typical busy nights there could be a long wait. The food is great and the haystack onion rings are the best. They are not greasy. This is definitely one of our favorite places to go.

  • Sarah C.

It's always a good sign when you have to wait for a table at lunch, right? Great salad and cup of soup on the side. The food I saw on the tables around me looked great too and I hope I get a chance to try them for dinner. I wasn't bothered by the décor, but that's because, hey, it's Janesville. It's a family-owned type of place. I don't expect fancy :)

Excellent dinner includes broasted chicken, their specialty, prime rib and seafood. Fun drinks. The wait was an hour long but worth it.

Nice enough place, clean, slightly outdated. Food prices reasonable, food was good but forgettable. Service was good. Been there, done that, no need to return.
