This place has great ambiance. The hibachi and sushi combo make it the perfect place for sushi lovers to take those who can't seem to get the courage to try the stuff. The unfortunate part is that it has only mediocre sushi and the waitstaff is hit or miss. There seem to be a couple of people who are really helpful, but the majority don't seem to know the menu, don't know anything about sushi, and aren't interested in their jobs.

One of the better sushi offerings in southeastern Wisconsin but we come to fuji for the hibachi. Lunch time is the best time if your schedule allows it. Generous portions of delicious food at a fair price what else could you ask for?

This place really doesn't have great experience in cooking Tepan style. They use less expensive ingredients and it comes through in the meal. Ask questions, like the type of crab or lobster and cut of beef. Service? Slow, basic, nothing special and we arrived early.

It was my husband's first hibachi grill experience and my second. We both really enjoyed the place! It doesn't look like anything special on the outside but inside the decor is very pleasing. We went to Fuji at about 6:30 pm on a Saturday and the place was completely packed. The wait was about 30 minutes but you can order drinks at the bar while you wait on the couches they have in the lobby. The show was really fun and the food was absolutely amazing. I got the salmon and my husband got the chicken and steak combo. All were wonderful with salmon being my absolute favorite. The prices are reasonable and we will definitely be going back! Also, there were many people there for their birthday dinner - I believe you get 50% off your entree and a free ice cream plus Happy Birthday sang/played for you in Japanese and English.

Fills a sorely needed gap for good ethnic food in Janesville.

Amazingly enough, the sushi, I had, here was great. Hibachi was also very tasty. Service was also great. It is a little expensive here. I'm glad there's a place like this in the small town of Janesville.

I have never been to the bar area so I can't comment on that. Their hibachi area was nice. The last time I went was on Sunday at 11:30am so I believe I may have gotten above average service since my children and I were the only people in the place and there were four servers running around. The chef was entertaining and the food was very good. I was very impressed that after ordering three dishes and two appetizers for three people, the final bill was under 35 dollars. I left them a 20 dollar tip. This place could easily push into the five star range if I have more good experiences there, I am planning to have my birthday there this February and they could receive an upgrade. Very good now, with potential to be great.

Food, good. Service- BAD!!! From our entrance with an ill mannered "manager" to a server who simply answered "No" when asked if they had any specials (and that was about the last we saw of him) our service was subpar. However, if you are willing to put up with bad service, the sushi was delicious. We liked every roll we ate and the udon soup was tasty too! The mixed drinks were mediocre but not too expensive (just slow to arrive at the table). Overall, we'd rather put up with bad service and good food than vice versa but nothing too compelling here to bring us back to the restaurant.

Fuji was fun in summer 2010 when it first opened since Janesville didn't really have a hibachi/sushi restaurant. I liked it for a year or so, but in 2011, though, things seemed to go downhill. Most recently, our group of 8 had reservations at 6:30 p.m. We were seated on time and the rest of my group was promptly given their glasses of beer, mixed drinks and sake - but not my wine. 15 minutes later, I asked our server about my Riesling. "Yeah, it's coming." 5-10 minutes after that, my fiance' finally went to the bar, ordered the glass of Riesling, and came back to our table. We also experienced other service problems throughout the night - and did not leave the restaurant until 9:30 p.m.! And our bill was charged for two drinks that we never had. Our bill was adjusted after we had a short debate with our server. But even being charged the correct amount, no mediocre food and being stuck at the restaurant for three hours is worth $70 for two people. I suggest you save money, time and frustration - and eat elsewhere!

First off my daughter and I just relocated from the San Francisco Bay area and have had exceptional sushi. This is NOT exceptional; however, it's a heck of a lot better than I was expecting in Janesville. It's closer to my home and gives me an option when I'm out shopping without having to drive to Madison. Trust me, not many restaurants in Janesville that are not major chains and we don't eat at those. No desire to eat reheated frozen food from a major corporate kitchen! They have a nice selection of rolls and are very reasonably priced (then again I'm used to Bay Area prices). The place is very clean, compared to most Chinese restaurants. It's a great starter place for someone who's never explored Sushi. Place is always busy when I've been there, which makes me feel safer about the food since they're obviously turning it over fairly quickly.

This is one of my favorite lunch places in Janesville. The teriyaki bento box is great, and such a great value for the amount of food you get! Soup or salad, teriyaki steak, a california roll, fried rice, and the cutest orange you've ever seen.

I love this place and have been a few times with consistently good sushi. So many great options and for something new and fun, try the Sandwich roll. Great service. Conveniently located across from the mall.

I was really unimpressed with this place. Having only one sushi place in Janesville, I was really excited when these guys came to town. That excitement was quickly dissolved, however. I tried a few rolls, eel, salmon skin, yellowtail and salmon. The eel was overcooked and rubbery, similar to the feel of what you'd get pre-made at a grocery store. The salmon was so-so, not bad, but nothing really great either. The yellowtail impressed me, it was very good. Then there was the salmon skin... It wasn't cooked at all. The rolls came out and had a slimy texture. I couldn't even eat them it was so bad. With the prices of this place being higher than their competitor, I expected a new level of quality. I was sorely disappointed. Add in the cheap plastic dishes and horrible pop music being pumped in, I couldn't wait to leave. It seemed like they were using a decorative facade to pass of cheap dishes and low-grade sushi as genuine. It was bad, even for Midwest sushi. I won't be going back any time soon.

For sushi in Janesville, this is the place to go. I've gone here on a number of occasions with friends, for work, or just on a date night. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious, and the show is fun!
(4)James C.
It was a fun experience as we sat on the side with the Hibachi grill. The meal was good and felt that it was the appropriate price for the amount of food we received. The chef we had was both friendly and professional. This is a place that I can see going back to.

Horrible. I cannot understand the reviews, though I'm thinking most people here in Janesville have never had *authentic* Japanese cuisine. The place bills itself as such, but the Sushi one can get at a Chinese buffet is more closer to the real thing. The interior was the first thing that got me, and I did my best to let it slide. The place is overdone, nothing about the interior says anything authentic. It's gaudy, there's tons of the sort of stuff you would expect to find in an upscale Chinese buffet; not an authentic Japanese eatery where less is more. As I said, if the food was good, I would be happy to let that go, there's that whole faux-asian thing that everyone is obsessed with and so, making everything super-asian looking adds to the appeal, or something. Anyways, the food: The Menu seems authentic, they actually use most of the correct names, save they call the age-dashi tofu just age-tofu. Small quip. The prices seemed decent for sushi until it came out. First, they were small rolls of six, not full rolls of eight. Oh well. The kicker however, is how horrible the sushi was. First off, the rice was not sushi rice, I suspect it was California short grain. Sushi, must must must be made with Japanese short grain which is significantly stickier and holds together without needing to be overcooked, which is exactly what Fuji does. Also because of that, there was very little rice on the roll. The worst faux pas however was that the sushi was not sushi. Sushi does not refer to raw fish, it instead refers to vinegared rice. Sushi rice is supposed to be seasoned with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. The rice had NO seasoning. It was just plain, overcooked rice. The rolls were also anything but round and circular. The fillings were bad. Do not order the Philly Roll. The Salmon was repulsive. The place overfilled rolls with cucumber, so that most of the 'sushi' was cucumber with little room for other filling. Even the ginger was bad. It had a very funny taste, like someone left the ginger uncovered in the fridge and it picked up other things. It was just. . . seriously, the worst sushi I have ever had. I paid my bill, etc, and I asked why the place called itself authentic, and the reception person argued with me that it is indeed authentic. I think not. Our server wasn't even good. She was oblivious to what was actually on the menu, not just to us, but anyone around who was looking for suggestions. If you asked her a question it was, "Uhm. . .Ah. . . It's like. . ." etc. In short, the place is just a very, very bad faux-Japanese 'hibachi' joint like so many places across the states. If you want authentic, take a trip to Chicago or Schaumberg. Chicago has a lot of places that seem to be pretty authentic from reviews, and Schaumberg has Mitsuwa, which is a full Japanese grocer with several completely and truly authentic restaurants that are very affordable.

A Japanese restaurant in Janesville? Yes! Sushi is fresh, artfully presented and very good value. Hibachi is fun to watch. Staff are friendly and quick. It's interesting to watch the chefs if you sit at the sushi bar. Takeout is easy and fast.

This is a new place I believe the manager said it opened about 3 weeks ago. I was there with my wife and her family. The food was excellent, the menu was very well done, with Sushi and Hibachi influences as its main style. The waitress said we was her first big crowd (9), but she did a very good job, she was very fast, and attentive though she did add a dish to the bill that we didn't receive but it was quickly resolved. I had the Hibachi Steak and shrimp, and it was fantastic. The portions were large and tasty! Everyone was very happy with their meal. The price was a bit high, but since I wasn't paying I won't account that as a negative. I was told this is one of the more fancy places in Janesville to eat, though you can come causal you may want to keep the shorts and sneakers at home. I really can't find anything I dislike about the place. Even the manager came over to greet us. *This from their web site: About Us * Lunch & Dinner / Kids Menu, Party, Catering & Sweet List Available * Traditional Hibachi Grill Entrees: (Cook On Japanese Traditional Teriyaki Grill. Stopped there for lunch. Place doesn't look like much on the outside, but inside it is decorated very nicely. Food was terrific. I had their 3 roll special and enjoyed the dish. My wife had some sashimi and said it was great. Everything was fresh and service was very good. We'll be back for more next time we're in Janesville.

My boyfriend and I are very loyal customers to Fuji. For living in Wisconsin their fish always tastes fresh and they have a great lunch special on the weekends. We usually go for the weekend special to stay on budget which allows you to choose 2 or 3 sushi rolls from a good variety for a set price of 9 to 13 dollars. When we can splurge, their specialty rolls and appetizer salads are delicious! My favorite is the sashimi salad. It is a seaweed salad topped with small sashimi slices of fresh fish and a lot of it! In addition their crab salad is equally delicious. I have never been disappointed by this food and the restaurant itself is beautiful!

Great value with all very friendly. Have been twice and not thrown out. Ha! Ha! Nice interior with elaborate decorations live fish but not for eating. Sushi bar is fine but not as open as some. Waited on right away and presented with per appetizers before our ordered ones came. Then into big dinning room and many performance grills. All cooks were fun and engaging so be prepared for a show. Prices good and quality high. During week even better on drink prices. Birthday band comes out if you ask and sung in Japanese and English. It is 08/15 and they do need to touch up outside of entrance, so don't be alarmed. We last went on Wednesday and a good crowd was there for Janesville, so always a good sign.

This place is MEH. The decor was super weird. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a white girl in a kimono. Normally, this wouldn't be weird except for the fact that she was the only employee who had to dressed like that. We were taken to our seats where we were surrounded by the quintessential Asian decor. However, the menus were covered in hieroglyphics. I didn't get the connection between sushi and ancient Egypt. Our server was nice, but standard. The prices were very high. The sushi was tasty, but for the price, they could have done better. My husband had some udon noodles which basically has zero taste...except for salt. Meh.

Hibachi filet and chicken for 20 bucks with soup and salad. They really fill the plate and the filet was great. Definitely would come back

Fuji is a solidly OK Sushi and Hibachi joint. This is a high compliment in the Janesville market. Consider that Dominos Pizza is one of the only Yelp 5-Star restaurants in town. But if you are looking for a Place go for dinner it's an option. The decor and booths are tired. The service is very quick and efficient. We had a couple of rolls and a Hibachi combo. The Boston Roll was supposed to have shrimp in it... It was scarce. The other more complicated roll I had with tuna was better. The hibachi steak and chicken combo was OK.

I am from the Madison area and have eaten at many of the Japanese areas there. I was pleas dangly surprised with the sushi they serve here. I would compare their rolls with my favorite sushi place in Madison. They also have a delicious ginger salad you can order as a side salad or will come with your hibachi. My favorite roll here is the Highland Roll (with cream cheese added). It is so good!

Food was ok at best. Entertainment was good. Rice was not fully cooked. I have been here previously and the experience was much better before.

Great flaverfull food made the traditional way! Sweet Potato Roll is amazing! Yes! Different but one of the best rolls I have had. I really like the salad but can you please cut it up a bit more? Thanks for a great experiance....

Great entertainment and even better food!

Decent sushi. In Wisconsin. More specifically Janesville. Seriously? I was pleasantly surprised by the sushi here. Whlie its not the world's greatest sushi, it tasted above average for WI and about average for anywhere you'd find on the coasts. Everyone has their own tastes and preferences in sushi so I won't tell you necessarily the rolls I had and what not, but if you're in the hankering for sushi and you're in Rock County, do not fear going here, it is suprisingly pretty good and I will most definitely be back.

I came here for the lunch and sat at a Hibachi Grill with my boyfriend. We both got salad. It was nothing special but still good. We both ordered the filet mignon. The chef put on a cool show and cooked our steaks very well. The meat was very flavorful and tender. The vegetables and rice were also excellent. The atmosphere is great as well and very pretty. I plan to go here again.

Eating vegan at Fuji was very easy. We opted to sit at the grill. You can either sit at a booth and be served or have the food cooked in front of you At the grill, which is fun. It's nice to be able to see the cooking if you have dietary restrictions. I ordered the hibachi vegetables, and the server immediately asked me if I was vegan. When I said yes, he knew all the substitutions to make for my meal. He brought me miso soup instead of the onion soup, and he had a chef make me my own fried rice with no egg. The chef knew to only use oil and no butter on the vegetables. It was very easy. Usually I stress a little about following up on requests, but the staff and chefs were very knowledgable. Great place for plant based diets.
(4)Rachel B.
Best Hibachi I have ever had! They also have chicken nuggets and fries for the kids...they were happy with that and still could enjoy the show!
(5)Yari S.
Every time I head to Janesville for work, I always want to come here. The service is fast & friendly. The food is great, steak & shrimp is my favorite. Sushi is amazing, California rolls and dragonflies are very good. Will definitely come back when I'm in Janesville for business.
