Pier 500 Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Lobster Mac & Cheese will not disappoint. Place gets very busy on weekend at summertime due to river view location. Good beer selection. Mixed drinks spendy but at least well made. Recommend as one of the best places in Hudson (better IMHO than San Pedro by a long shot).

This was a great place to sit and relax on the Wis. side of the St. Croix. If you find yourself thirsty in Hudson take a load off and grab a drink on the patio at Pier 500, but I would not recommend taking a trip to Hudson just to come here. I would recommend taking a trip to Hudson just to go to Brick's . . great pizza!

Place is simply amazing! Great location, staff and service is excellent, menu is diverse and has enough that is unique to keep you coming back for more. I would strongly recommend the lobster mac and cheese (this coming from someone who is not a huge fan of lobster), cheese curds are dynamite, Szechuan green beans are a little too salty for me but the Ahi Tuna salad and hash brown potatoes will change your life! Also, they have great happy hour food items!

My Mom came in from LA and asked to have fish in Wisconsin. She flies all over the world but wanted fish in Wisconsin. So, I found Pier 500 here on Yelp. Mixed reviews but, we actually all enjoyed our meals. We had the blackened salmon with dirty rice for meals, pork nachos and walleye cigars for appetizers. My hubby had the pork chops and there wasn't one food complaint. The food came quickly and not one thing wrong. My only complaint would be that the table next to us was too close and I felt like the guy behind me was on my back. A little too dark in the restaurant but, the plates had great portions, yummy tasting and quick. We would definitely go back.

Were it not for her very stout demeanour, the self-proclaimed "restaurant manager" could easily have been a regular on Fox "News"! Pier Five Hundred has a great location, my party choose an outside table overlooking the water. This was my first visit to Pier Five Hundred, but it has been a favourite of our Wisconsin family for years. Food: Was good to excellent on all the items our table ordered except for two. The Cajun Spiced Walleye Tacos is a WOW - a must try! There were two misses. Our family was keen to have us try the Brie Cheese Curds. I thought it was ok, but as a fancier of Brie, the type/quality of Brie used for the dish was disappointing - particularity since I have NOT found better cheese anywhere in the world (and I have travelled the world) than in Wisconsin. The only other miss was the gluten-free corned beef "sandwich", which was both gluten-free and apparently bread-free. Wine List: Very limited. Our group enjoyed the selection of beers. Service: In a word, excellent. I regret I can not recall the name of the waitress, but the date and time of our visit are noted below. Décor: I only saw the outside areas (which were excellent), but my family assured me that the inside rooms are very pleasant as well. Cost: Reasonable. Overall: Literally just 5 mins before we left Pier Five Hundred, after an otherwise wonderful lunch experience, it all turned very sour. The restaurant manager, that previously mentioned stoutly blond lady, accused our 6-year-old grandson of damaging (braking) restaurant property - specifically, a bar held between wooden fence posts. She accused our grandson of "climbing over the bar", which he did not do. He simply walked under the bar as apparently he and his cousin (also 6) do on every visit to Pier Five Hundred. Our very bright grandson demonstrated to the restaurant staff and to the dragon lady, that all those bars were as loose and insecure as the one he was accused of damaging. The dragon lady just had to have the last word. We quickly left, as we feared that should there be a fire in the kitchen our grandson would be accused of that as well. Date of visit: May 4th, mid day.

The service, river side view & fabulous food made for a wonderful BiRtHdAy celebration! The Coconut Cream Pie was like no other pie and was enough to feed 4! Warning: if there are only 2 of you, like there was of us, you'll not stop eating it until it's gone! Do not count calories when indulging in an enjoyable evening of dining here.. as the coconut cream pie is not on the main menu and a must have when it's available & the brie cheese curds are irresistible, especially with the lingonberry ketchup! A big shout out to our fabulous server, Jen & the manager...you guys we're great! (Can you tell we had a fantastic evening!)

Great atmosphere. We were visiting from Ohio and did some shopping in Hudson and decided to eat here because it was close to our vehicle. The patio outside is lovely and it's not those loud patios you find most places where you can't carry a conversation. My boyfriend had the lobster mac'n cheese and it lived up to the reviews. I had the Reuben with salt and vinegar fries, the Reuben was one of the best I've had. (Typically I try one everywhere we are) but I will say I was a little disappointed in the fries. And even though it was a little pricey for most places we eat lunch it is definitely worth a visit.

The brie cheese curds are life-changing, and I would stop by to eat them every day if I lived in walking distance. The lobster mac & cheese is spendy, but tasty. They do a great job with the sauce and, when done gently, it will reheat well in the microwave. They also had this butterscotch pudding dessert that was super tasty and big enough to share. Try their soups too - I've never had a bad one. I've come here both with four little kids in tow, as well as on a rare date with my husband. Both times, I had great food and exceptional service. During our visit with all the kids, one of the waitresses even helped prevent a meltdown for my 4yr old niece by having her "help" set a table. They were also great about bringing out the kids meals as quickly as possible. Kids behaved and didn't act like crazy beasts, and us adults were able to enjoy our meal. On our date, they took a lunch reservation for a table near the fireplace, which just made the experience all the more perfect on a cold, winter afternoon. Thank you! I can't wait to try them in the summer to enjoy that gorgeous patio. P.S. I noticed no one has taken photos of the brie cheese curds. Rest assured, this is because they don't last long enough for photos :).

The food is always amazing, the service can be sketchy depending on if the servers want to gossip rather than serve. But with that being said, I will still come here because the food is delightful

I ordered a vodka cranberry and was charged an extra dollar for the cranberry. Nuff said.

We checked in and we were told 45 min but if we took anywhere they would seat us sooner. As we got a drink and waited an elder couple came in and asked how long it would be? They got seated immediately... We had been waiting 15 min. Although we have eaten here SO many times we are getting sick of the lack of consistency! We actually left because they got a river view and we got offered a place in the center of the bar. Sick of this...

Let's start with this: the food is great. I've ordered a few things and have been happy with everything: their healthy salmon bowls are my favorite, followed by their walleye. BUT the reason for only 3 stars is that the piece of salmon is far too small! It's maybe 3 oz. I'm not a big eater but it's obvious this place is cheap.... The second reason for only 3 stars is this: I absolutely despise drinking out of plastic cups at their outdoor patio. We're not 3 year olds. I pay $9 for a drink and I have to drink it out of plastic. Not cool. This is yet another way of being cheap....

Hold onto your wallet. We were short changed. The tab for lunch should have been $28. Instead the waiter brought a check for double that. It was a slow Friday in the mid afternoon. I got up to find the general manager and the waiter working the cash register. No apologies! They are experts at running tabs on a computerized system. They don't deserve our business for cheating.

My grandparents took us here and I loved their outdoor seating area. Very refreshing- to be able to take in the view of the river and that nice gentle breeze. They've got huge sun umbrellas at each table so don't worry about it getting too sunny. The lobster mac and cheese was a bit on the salty side and way too watery for a mac and cheese- they either needed to thicken it up more or cooked it longer. Plus the lobster was few and scarce. The wild mushroom flat bread on the other hand was thin and crispy with a hint of truffle oil. And I loved their selection of mushrooms on it. My grandparents did their lunch special which is a half sandwich and a cup of soup of their choice- they seemed to really like it since that's what they always get :) Service wasn't in particularly outstanding but wasn't horrible either- just right. Parking is metered street parking and metered parking lot. Lol.

My niece and I, on our Wisconsin Fall trip, dined here on recommendation of her friend, and we loved it! It was too cold that evening to sit outside on the deck but the interior was very comfortable. We had reservations and were seated immediately. Our server was excellent and answered all of our questions on the menu. We shared Walleye Bites as an appetizer and we both loved them! The homemade tartar sauce is excellent! I almost picked up the little silver container to lick it all out but I knew my niece would give me a total "uh uh, No You DIDn't" look so I just tried to roll my last walleye bite around until I got every last drop!! They should bottle and sell that stuff!! She had Grilled Pork chops and I got to bring one home for Teddi and they were amazing! They came with Brandied apples which neither her nor I cared for but the potatoes that came with, were different but rich and delicious. I had the meatloaf and mashed taters and almond green beans.....OMG! I want to drive over the bridge and get some tonight just writing this. Meatloaf, perfectly described by our server, is baked to a certain point, then as ordered, is sliced and grilled!!! YES, when served, its got a little char on each slice and served with some delectable gravy/sauce which was delicious. Beans were done perfectly and as far as the mashed taters, well, you know I am a country girl and love my mashed taters! We wanted so badly to get a dessert but we were too full. The deserts looked amazing! I would get the banana one but the chocolate cake looked decadent and definitely share!! Word of warning, the desserts look big enough for three to share! I will reserve my final star when I am able to actually sit outside on the patio.

We came out to Pier 500 for Sunday Funday! We were lucky to grab a seat at the bar, watch a bit of football, enjoy the all day Happy Hour on food and bevies. I had the burger (excellent), with cole slaw (crunchy fresh), and some Bell's Two Hearted (sorry New Glarus). For some reason most of the bars on the St Croix have to look over a parking lot or street to see the river, but that's not their fault. A nice deck wraps 1/2 the restaurant, and the inside looks like a nice place to hang out in winter. My only beef was that the bar service was slow....but they were busy.

  • Lorraine N.

Every time I mention I live in Hudson people ask if I have been to Pier 500 like it is so worth doing. It certainly looks busy with people hanging around waiting for their table and opportunity to dine here so I did not want to be missing out and made it a goal to see what the fuss was all about. I just don't get it really! I went here Sunday afternoon with the ladies because we all wanted to sit outside somewhere and enjoy a patio by the water. The water is not close enough for me. They have cheesy plastic chairs that are in danger of cracking if you weigh more than 100 pounds. The Food is overpriced for the quality that they are striving for. I ordered one of their seasonal drink offerings cucumber basil martini---it was like syrup and i did not even drink half of it but do you think they noticed and said oh can I offer you something else. NOT! They serve you in plastic disposable cups and I hate that when it is under the disguise of a fine dining establishment--- We had rotisserie chicken and some sides--the mac-n-cheese--go up the street to agave it is better, a dollar less, and triple the portion. The chicken was okay but not memorable. People smoke all around the patio and I was quite surprised at the colorful crowd that congregated here on a Sunday afternoon-I have been all around the other dive-type bars in Hudson and this was a different mix of people that I have seen out and about in Hudson. Good place to grab a beer and people watch perhaps on a nice breezy evening or afternoon--but save your money and get your meal elsewhere.

Nice upscale dining in Hudson, WI with an awesome view of the St. Croix River. We love going here in the summer time and taking advantage of their huge sunny patio overlooking the river. Go there on a Sunday for a delicious brunch and 99 cent mimosas!

This is the Hudson version of the Freight House. Nothing great, nothing offensive, nice patio for summer drinking.

Marvelous food and service. My wife's grilled salmon salad was great, the salmon was grill so it was not greasy like many pan fried salmon are. I had the wood fire rotisserie pork. Spectacular!! The wood fire flavor was amazing and the vegetables also captured the wood fire flavor. The manager had heard from our wonderful waitress that it was our anniversary and our first time at the restaurant. He took the time to check in with us and congratulate us. The fresh berry crips was delicious. Great atmosphere on the deck during a wonderful summer night.

First time having breakfast at this establishment after coming here for a few years. Service has always been hospitable. While the breakfast could have been better, they make up for it with their great outdoor patio and consistent, friendly service. Pier 500 has or if not the best location for downtown establishments during the summer.

Ok, so my final vote is in. Sitting outside at the bar, ordered a few beers. After not being noticed for a while, and asking, (there are 5 people at the outside bar, and 2 bartendes) I finally got a beer, I can't decide on what I want, so I decided the meatloaf dinner AND the grilled salmon. (Both dinners together were still cheaper than the filet). They came out together, with my buddy's Philly cheese steak. I started on the meatloaf, cold and mushy, potatoes were warmer, but barely Luke warm. The green beans almondine, were good and the warmest thing on that plate. The salmon was warm and tasty, good kick to it, the dirty rice it was on was hot and tasty, the asparagus, ice cold, but tasty. My buddy said his sandwich was good, fries were cold. Gorgeous night out, place is busy, had higher hopes.

Food is great. Everything on the menu is delicious. However, The old bag at the hostess stand is rude, mean, and hostile towards everybody who walks in the front. Once you get past her, the wait staff isn't much better. She scowled at our table. (we later found out that it was because a different host sat us at her table by mistake) We did have a good view of the kitchen though. One of the cooks was eating a sucker he got from a bachelorette party earlier in the night. If you are okay with all that, the food is great. I hope they work on the service so we can come back. This was one of our favorite places. We won't be back anytime soon

I want ot like this place but honestly it's overpriced. I will say that their brunch is fantastic. I've always received good service, the prices are decent, and the food is delish. But as for dinner, not so much. Not good service and not good prices. Basically go for brunch, find somewhere else for dinner.

Love, love, love this place! Whether it's for Happy Hour on the patio, dinner or brunch. One of my favorites in Hudson.

Stopped in to meet with a couple of good friends. Tried out the szechwan green beans for an appetizer and they had good flavor. Lightly breaded walley was another great choice with a side salad. Good solid dinner with the option of outdoor seating watching the river is nice.

  • Sabrina F.

Why do restaurants think just because you're on prime real estate it's acceptable to serve overpriced crap for food? My lunch was a sad, sad plate of wilted greens in sugary vinaigrette, with chicken that tasted like it died an awful, nasty death at some corporate farm. It was on par with a two day old fast food restaurant salad. Only five times more expensive. Beer selection was pitiful and served in cheap plastic cups. I guess at least the service was friendly.

So, we went here last minute because we overslept on our nap and our planned stop was not going to be open much longer. WoW! Glad we did. It is a Tuesday and the patio was packed and the inside was moderately busy. The feel of the place was welcoming and pleasant. We were greeted by quite a few workers and seated immediately inside (there was a wait for the patio and the gorgeous 75 degree evening on the River). We ordered two mojitos to start (Mango and Watermelon). They were both done well with an excellent fresh muddled mint taste and a slight finish of the fruit. Exactly how a mojito should be made! We ordered the Brie Cheese Curds with the Lingonberry Ketchup. Wht a great combo, the Brie melted wonderfully and released the saltiness which paired wonderfully with the sweet ketchup mix. The batter was light and crispy with little to no grease, which was a pleasant surprise. Our entrees were the Chicken, Walnut and Blue Cheese Rigatoni and the Lobster Mac N Cheese. Now, I will note that they had two mussel specials, but at 8:00PM when we ordered, they were out of the mussels (probably due to the large crowd, but the server did not seem like the crowd was unusual). The Rigatoni was wonderful in flavor, but I have two slight recommendations: 1) The noodles were overdone by a coupe minutes so they were a bit squishy and did not hold the flavor as well; and 2) The sauce was a bit overabundant, so it masked a bit of the entire flavor - a bit more spinach to break it up would have been perfect. The Mac N Cheese was perfect for my girlfriend. It was full of lobster, the noodles were the perfect size, and the the only complaint was a bit more bread crumb crust would have given it the perfect crunch. We were full from the meal, so we did not have dessert. As for the service, I do not remember our servers name, which means it was neither good nor bad. I do know that she was a bit aloof, missed our refills and took a small concern seriously, but did not follow up with us. The managers were actively engaged and assisting everywhere and the overall feel from the staff was cohesive, although more smiles would have made it perfect. The person we saw enjoying themselves the most and 'bopping' around was the food runner who delivered our meals and many others. She was pleasant and actively smiled as she worked. She also got us our refills. Thank you Pier 500, it was a great night for my birthday dinner! Take the criticisms as light, but helpful.

This place rocks. They have a fun Sunday brunch that's served all-you-can-eat family style, and it's delish. Their dinners are also very good. I've had their steak, lobster mac and cheese, and parmesan crusted fish. All were very good. The only reason I can't give them a 5 star is because I've had a couple friends order their rib specials and they weren't impressed, and I had another friend who also had an ok meal. But the ambiance and view are awesome! Go there and sit on the patio!

The Pier is the places to be for outdoor seating or nice inside seating The food is always good, and very friendly staff. :) The drinks prices are about average but their happy hour in the bar area outside and inside is very good with some very good bar food items 3-6 m-f. And all day on Sunday (all day fun day) The regular seating is a place to go for a nice dinner out Would recommend anytime and if you are visiting the area one of the places you should go especially in the summer or early fall

1 star for the patio seating, 1 star for the server. The food was bland. Took my teen daughter her to try this after wanting to stop here for ten years. The host and hostess took our phone # as there was a 15 min. wait on this overcast but comfortable day. About 20 minutes later, we got our call and were given the table opposite the host/hostess stand. The waitress appeared soon enough to ask for our drink order. When she returned with our lemonades, she asked if we were ready to order but my daughter was struggling and said she was not ready so the waitress was fine and left. It did take her quite a long time to return so make sure you know what you want on that first request or it could take a bit for a return visit! But she apologized for the delay and it was no big deal. My teen didn't seem to love the menu choices and I assured her we could just pay for the lemonades and not bother with lunch, but she decided on 1/2 turkey sandwich and the cream of mushroom soup. I wasn't sure she would like the soup and gave her "the look" since the other choice, wild rice (?) sounded more to her liking. I ordered the turkey sandwich with bacon and avocado and regular fries. I ate 1/2 of the sandwich which had 1 tiny slice of avocado and 1/2 of a piece of bacon. My daughter and I split the fries and they were good. The soup? She ate 2 spoonfuls. I wish the waitress had noticed and offered a replacement. The waitress did promptly bring me more ketchup when I asked. They determine how much ketchup you will eat and serve it in a little cup rather than letting you decide and offering up the ketchup bottle. The waitress also offered extra mayo with basil which was on my sandwich for dipping sauce for the fries. I accepted the mayo and used it on my sandwich because I thought the turkey was quite dry and it helped. I felt the prices were high for lunch. $12 for the sandwich. $11 for the 1/2 sandwich and soup. Those seem more like dinner prices to me but I suppose this is a restaurant where one pays for the view. I took the other 1/2 of my sandwich home and took it apart and fed the meat to the dog. There was the other 1/2 piece of bacon and no avocado on this 1/2 of sandwich so at least I ate the better 1/2! I tipped $8 to the waitress which might have given the wrong impression that we loved everything but it was because I wanted to get out of there. Mainly because as mentioned above, there was both a host and a hostess on staff and they were not busy and the host and hostess had been talking and gossiping and joking the entire time we were there and I was tired of listening to their conversation. One of them should have been sent home long ago as there was obviously not enough for both of them to do and the female was swinging on the hostess stand at various times. Based on food alone, we won't go back. I wouldn't suggest bringing kids/teens.

Went for lunch during a trip to see the fall colors. Service was quick and friendly. This must be a local favorite. This place was packed! The lobster bisque was good but cold. Cocktails were okay. If I am in the area in the future I might give it another try but would not make a special trip

Its been a long time since I reviewed this spot. We stopped in for dinner on 11/2 and had a great time. Our server was austin and he was very knowledgeable of the menu and easy to work with. He provided very quick service and was very friendly and great to talk to. We had the brie cheese curds. Omfg they were simply divine. Then I had the gouda mac and chees and well it was ok. It did not compete with the cheese curds. Lindy had the french onion soup and she said it was good. The bread was great too. I had the prime rib and it was amazing while lindy had the Pettitte filet and hers was good too. I give this place a solid 5. Its great people watching too lots of old men trying their luck at the middle aged or collage girls. Seems that they all dress the same. Blue jeans , shirt, sports cost with no socks and dock shoes lol. Tubs and Crockett would be proud to come here if it was more tropical out.

Pier 500 was recommended to us by a friend of the family. The patio has a great view of the river, but on this particular evening, we opted to dine inside due to it being a little chilly. Our family was celebrating our oldest son's birthday, however, we did not mention anything to our server and she must have a 6th sense about that kind of thing, since she guessed it was a special occasion for us. The menu choices are great. There were a couple of service concerns, but the wait staff remedied them very quickly. The first was the carbonated beverages were flat. The waitress immediately replaced them and kept up with the refills, which is always a challenge with our thirsty group. Two of our party ordered the prime rib, both medium rare. One came out looking like it had sat under the heat lamp too long, since there was no pink/red showing at all. We notified the manager, and he replaced it within 5 minutes, which was pretty fast considering the place was packed. My wife ordered the lobster mac n cheese, which was very good. I ordered the parmesan crusted walleye, which was great...not too much breading, and just the right amount of wild rice and green beans on the side. The was our first visit to Pier 500, and we will definitely visit again in the future.

Not worth the price. Don't understand people's obsession with this place. Food is average at best. Tap selection is boring. So they have a patio, big deal. Service was just alright, bartender didn't know very much about the menu.

We were here for my sister's wedding rehearsal dinner. There were probably 40 people they had to accommodate and they did great. There wasn't a ton of extra space in the room they put us in, but they made it work just fine. I had the prime rib and Mrs B. had the smoked gouda nacho appetizer. Both meals were top-notch. Great flavor, very well done all around.

Good food and service but absolutely pathetic way to nickel and dime customers. They had listed soup as a side with the lunch/dinner entries but we were blind-sided by the check when they charged additional $$$ for the soup as a side. It was not disclosed anywhere in the menu, nor was it mentioned by the waitress. Terrible business practice.

Two of these 3 stars are for the patio alone, the remaining star is to give Pier 500 the benefit of the doubt. Manpanion and I excitedly plopped down at the patio bar pretty early on a Sunday morning. The restaurant had only been open about 25 minutes so they were by no means busy. The sun was shining and we were still riding a swoony high from the wedding we were in town for the previous night, but the bartender managed to shatter that glorious feeling by ignoring us for no less than 10 minutes after we sat. Now, he knew we were there. He did a few things in front of our seats with no "hi,I'll be right with you." Again, it was not busy. When he finally acknowledged us, our questions seemed to annoy him and he failed to mention the current happy hour which should qualify under "any specials?" We ended up leaving after one round, deciding to take our brunch business elsewhere. But, gorgeous patio.

This is a pretty standard fare restaurant but they earned 3 stars from me for 2 reasons: 530 Friday night - restaurant obviously swamped usual dinner rush and we were given a table no reservation/no wait. We had come to Hudson to eat at Agave Kitchen, but since my mom couldn't get inside, we had to scramble for new dinner plans. St Croix Mule: ginger beer, muddled lime/mint + vodka. Yum-sauce. I had one of their Asian-inspired salads that was good. They worked for us in a pinch and I'm very grateful for that.

We were traveling through Hudson and looked up local establishments on the internet. Pier Five Hundred listed happy hour to be between 3 and 6 pm. We checked in and waited about 15 minutes for seating. We were seated at about 4 pm. The waitress came over and I inquired about the happy hour specials. She told me that we were not seated in the "happy hour" section of the restaurant. I asked her how we were to know where the "happy hour" section was. She had no good answer. The manager then seated us in the correct section with much fanfare. Embarrassing. Then we found out that the happy hour specials were no deal at all. IMO, avoid this place.

We had a wonderful lunch out on the patio overlooking the Hudson. The service was friendly, helpful and prompt. We had the walleye cigar appetizers based on a recommendation from the server, then decided to be adventurous and try the peanut butter bacon cheeseburger! The walleye cigars were served with a delicious Tatar sauce and Dijon mustard dressing-both very tasty. The walleye cigars themselves were a little dry but the fresh lemon wedge helped! The burger was definitely filling, glad we decided to half it! The burger patty was a little overcooked but still enjoyable. The best part about eating lunch here though was the beautiful view!!!

I'll preface this by saying that our complaint is service, and not food, related. Arrived early Friday evening, before our scheduled reservation time, and were seated promptly. They have a very nice patio area overlooking the river. Our server was friendly and got our order right. However, when they were bringing out our entrees, one server bumped into another and my entree ended up on the ground. They brought over my dining mates' plates as well as what was still edible on mine. Both servers apologized, to their credit. If that's all, then no big deal right? Unfortunately, it took nearly 20 minutes for my replacement entree to come. By that time, everyone else had basically finished their dinner. Again, I understand these things happen. The cardinal sin is they did not comp us even one penny. I worked at a restaurant in college and anytime you make a mistake that: A. Is clearly the server's fault B. Majorly impacts the diner's experience Then you apologize first, and then either don't charge them or at least give them a dessert, etc. free of charge. Everyone who's worked in the food service industry knows this. Except the folks at Pier 500. I'm not one to usually nit-pick over service. As long as the right food arrives I'm happy. But this really just rubbed all of us the wrong way. On a side note, our food ranged from average to good: brie cheese curds were a tasty alternative to the usual curds; my BBQ chicken was unremarkable although the gouda mac and cheese that came with it was excellent; my wife and her mother both ordered burgers, which were solid if unspectacular. Based on the other Yelp reviews, it appears my experience is not unique. I would hope the management takes note of these things to try to improve the experience diners have. But, based on the long line winding out the door, I doubt they will.

My family had an overall great experience. It was memorial day, so we expected the wait. We were all quite hungry so I am sure we were a little frustrating for the hosts to handle. I am a waitress so I took over the situation of getting us a table so they didn't have to deal with my sassy family. We waited about 20 minutes and ended up sitting inside after debating sitting on the patio (people were smoking so we opted out on the patio). After a slow start to getting the table, our hopes were high for the great food we heard about. We ordered bloody Mary's which were fabulous. Passed that test. Then we had the mushroom and truffle flat bread- passed that test with flying colors. Two of us ordered the lobster grilled cheese which we later found out they had sold out of but we were ok finding something else. Must have meant it was a really good sandwich. I'm the end, food was GREAT...and service was PERFECT. Hands up to Kelsey. She was great! Just attentive enough that we saw her when we needed her and not when we didn't. Everything was great. I would come back here again and again if I wasn't from the west coast. Thanks again guys!!!

Had the Szechuan Green Beans for an appetizer which were fantastic. Great flavor with a nice crunch. I ordered the BBQ Burger which was cooked a perfect medium. Nice BBQ sauce and killer bacon. Salt & Vinegar fries were the side and they were nice and crispy. Sat outside and had a great view of the river. Server was great and service was fast. Cash and Cards accepted. Metered parking lot so bring some quarters.

This review is for service alone. Went in on a beautiful summer day wanting to find somewhere with a great patio. Pier 500 definitely has that, however you are not allowed to enjoy the main patio overlooking the river during happy hour. Instead, you are relegated to a section of the patio overlooking the parking lot. Deciding to forego happy hour to enjoy the view, our experience only went down from there. When our server realized we were only there for a drink to enjoy the weather and not for dinner, she decided to ignore our table for a majority of our time there. Some of our neighboring tables were populated by the baby boomer crowd enjoying full dinner and our server had no issue checking back with those tables many times. After just one drink, we decided to get out of there. Now the issue became corralling our server for the check. Once we got her attention, she basically threw it at us before moving on. With a career in hospitality, I am usually pretty forgiving for service issues, but this one went beyond horrible. Needless to say, I will never be returning!

Best seafood Mac n cheese that I've ever had! Customer service is what is expected to be for bar and grill type place, but other than that their food is superb! Great prime rib and appetizers.

Beautiful view and delicious, modern, light food. I joined a few others for some drinks at appetizers on an early evening in August. The service was on-point. We ordered bruschetta (3/5) and a mushroom/basil flatbread (4/5). The food was great, and way better than the other local bar-food options. The patio seating is lovely, it's a great place to come for a drink and watch the sun set.

Nice restaurant - great patio area - the inside atmosphere was on the loud side. The menu choices were varied and interesting. There were a couple of service errors which were quickly remedied. None of us had any complaints about our dishes. All in all, we had a great dinner and will definitely be back.

Why do places with a nice view feel like they can get away with subpar food? The ambience is quite nice but my burger was forgettable and the fries were old. Unfortunately, I was so hungry I had to wolf the whole thing down or I would have left most of it on the plate. My wife's salad was a bit embarrassing, wilted, and a few raspberries rolling around. Not the worst thing I have ever eaten but contrasted against such a nice backdrop it was hard to feel good about what we were served. This place needs some energy and a commitment to quality. Beer selection was decent.

Pier 5000 some of the best food on the planet The Ribs are out of this world, beyond the most amazing I have ever had and the cheesecurd appetizer is out of this world! Also the long island iced tea is great but one will get you drunk ;) enjoy! Sit out on the patio on a hot summer day- great experience

Had dinner with my family here last Saturday night. Food = GOOD (4/5) We ordered a few apps (walleye cigars, brie cheese curds), a butternut squash/apple salad, cheeseburger, a few entrees. It was 730pm Saturday, and they were already out of prime rib. Most of the dishes were solid -- no complaints. Service = BELOW PAR (2/5) Had to wait 15 minutes past our reservation time before getting seated, despite arriving 5 minutes early.. Server committed a few rookie fouls: dropped the check at the same time as dessert, didn't clean the table after our entrees / before desserts arrived, and then casually stalked our table after dropping the check -- while we were eating dessert. Water glasses went unfilled despite several manager-like people wandering the floor and observing, apparently monitoring the kitchen but not the dining room. Bottom Line = for the pricepoint, the food was yummy and met expectations, drinks did not (my manhattan tasted like a cherry coke with a shot of whiskey), and service definitely could use improvements.

My family and I have eaten here twice, once for dinner and once for lunch. Both times we have been disappointed in both the food and the service. The wait staff are a bit stuck-up and are terrible about keeping up with their tables. On both visits drink refills were not offered and we almost felt like we were causing the staff annoyance just by being there. I have to agree with other reviewers that Pier 500 seems to think that they can get away with sub par, overpriced food due to it's prime location. And, really, they do get away with it, given how busy it usually is. It's not that the food is bad, per say, it's just nothing special and the portions are small compared to the prices. After two unsatisfactory visits it's unlikely that we'll be back to Pier 500 anytime soon.

There is no denying the beautiful location and tasty food. The chefs might have an identity crisis though. Fancy ingredients share the menu with item like meatloaf and s'mores. Every item I tasted was elevated, but unlike mom the chef handled special requests awkwardly. I had the butternut squash ravioli which was delish. The description was all high class with foodie words and the unchanged result worth a return visit. However my friend asked for things to be left off hers and I'm not sure the chefs knew what to do with that. I think they actually drizzled more filling over the top of the pasta to compensate which did not look appetizing although it tasted fine. The wine was pricey but worth it. I had a rich Malbec with cocoa, coffee, and smokey undertones. The desserts should be illegal. The portion is huge and after one bite no one will share. I coaxed two bites of the banana cream pie out of my friend and wondered if it could replace men in my future. The bananas were at their peak, pastry cream luscious, and whip cream added to the texture without masking the taste. My one disappointment was the crust which consisted of a graham and almond crumble. I don't know if they used a flavoring or if the nuts had turned but their was an odd after taste. I'm going to assume it was an anomaly since everything else was so well balanced. I will be back.

My wife and I love Pier 500 it is by far the best Restaurant in Western Wisconsin! The only way it could be any better is if it were right on the River. Their patio is amazing!! It can probably accommodate over 100 guests, the service is always very quick and the food is phenomenal. If you are looking for food ,the best things on the menu my favorites in order are. Lobster Mac and Cheese Nachos Coconut Shrimp Philly Steak and Cheese sandwich. For drinks the St Croix margarita is very good all though it is kind of pricey at $8. Their Gin and Tonics are only $3 each, which I thought was very reasonable. You really cannot go wrong eating and drinking at Pier 500 it is by far the best place to eat in Hudson and probably for 50 miles into WI.

Hit this place up the other night on the way back from the 17th Annual Running of the Llamas in Hammond, WI. If you're ever in the MSP/Hudson/River Falls/Hammond loop area, definitely check out the llamas event. That thing is oddly amazing and perfect, especially to see a bunch of people in Greg Jennings jerseys watching Andean animals run down a street in a small Upper Midwest Town. Now, as for Pier 500 ... it's good. It's not amazing. Stone, which I think opened up kinda recently down the street, is better (better food/better beer selection). I went to Pier 500 around 4:30pm on a Saturday. It has a really nice view of the St. Croix, but ... the crowd is very baby-boomer-ish, and some of the food is a little overpriced. They have good smoked gouda nachos, but they're $12. Even in MSP proper, you could get that app for about $7-$10. Their tap list is alright but not amazing; probably the best thing they have is Spotted Cow. They were pretty flexible with sports on the outside TV; they have a small bar outside among a primarily-table area (people eating food), and the small bar has about three TVs. The bartenders working outside were totally flexible to put on any game, as opposed to just MN/WI/ND area athletic events. Someone requested an Oregon game, and it was flipped right on. I liked that; you don't always see that at small town bars.

Love, love, LOVE Pier! It's a great location right on the river, and the food, service and decor don't disappoint! Been there many times, trying something new each time. Everything is fantastic! My most recent visit, ordered the Bleu Cheese Fondue with roasted tomatoes, chunks of toasted bread and Beef Tips... phenomenal! Steak salad is also excellent and for the price, you receive a pretty decent chunk of beef. Overall, great place. You won't leave disappointed.

Food is wholly OK with no true standouts...and you will pay for your river view. When I come here for lunch I always wonder why they have no BLT, since the component ingredients all exist in other places on the menu. (If your BLT craving cannot be satisfied, go to Dick's up the street). Decent wine list and the usual beer suspects. The real attraction here is the deck. You can sit in the sun (or in the shade of the table's umbrella) and watch the St. Croix River roll on. The experience aims for upscale, so think more "boat crowd" than "biker crowd." I wouldn't bother with the indoor dining room. If I can't eat my (not a BLT) outside, I'm going somewhere else.

Food good but any substitutions you ask for on the dishes incur a plate charge - I.e if you want to swap onion for cucumber on your salad - common! or one time I was here and my wife and I were splitting a salad and I had a cold - we asked them to split it on two plates so my wife wouldn't get sick and they wanted to charge us an extra 3 dollars. The owner should get his head straight. Service has not been great either

I had been here years before and remember liking the place. Decided to go back based upon the favorable reviews here. I wanted to like it again more than I actually did. Service was slow and forgot to put in the appetizer order. I ordered the Lobster MacnCheese given the reviews here. It was tasty but there were two large pieces of lobster shell in the dish. Luckily, I did not swallow them. Be careful if you order this and value your trachea.

My other favorite pick in Hudson (and it is increasingly better as time goes on). The food continues to improve, as does the menu (which changes a couple times a year). I always hope to be there on the day they have creme brulee because it's the best I have ever had anywhere. The salt and vinegar fries are also wonderful, as are the Sunday Happy Hour prices. Recommended!

Amazing Appetizers, Incredible Food, Delicious Drinks, Super view/enviroment.... HORRIBLE service. Bill was pretty spendy, but i would of spent more if the service would of been better.... Found ourselves waiting for something ALWAYS.... I just dont understand why such a good restrurant ruins itself with such sub-par service...

I visited on 11/30/2012 and the manager and hostesses were very accommodating of my request to have a seat by the fireplace and to leave an envelope for my now fiancée to read on the final leg of a scavenger hunt that culminated in my proposal to her. They bent over backwards to meet my every request and the place (as usual) had a magical atmosphere. I would always recommend pier 500 for any occasion!

I have been a patron of this establishment for a few years. Within the past year, the service has been downright awful. We were there this past July, the 3 hostesses did not greet us so we sat ourselves near the bar. Moments later, one of the young girls came up to us and told us we couldn't sit there. So, we moved to the bar. The restaurant was about half full, not overwhelmingly busy. And I know what busy is like because I worked in the service industry for 11 years. Both bartenders on staff took 10 minutes to even make eye contact, we were finally able to order a drink. There were two couples that joined the bar after us, both couples walked out as they weren't as patient as we were and didn't want to wait 10 minutes for service. We ate and left, swearing to never return again. Please note that the table we were advised we could not sit at was never seated during the time we were there. The manager seemed to be attracted to one couple at the bar, he never talked to other people dining. It seems something changed over the past few years, perhaps new management who doesn't know how to do his job, but everything down to the hostess was rude and disappointing.

Oh my gosh... Nummy! I could not decide what to eat when I went here! After scanning the menu about one hundred times I finally opted on the lobster mac and cheese... An "adult" version of the kid food. It was absolutely delicious. I love this place and the location. It sits smack dab on the river... We were sitting outside on the patio until is started to down pour then we were rushed inside. Luckily our food didn't come until after we were seated inside. Whew! Our waitress outside was a little slow, but when we moved inside we got a new one and she definitely made up for the other chick who was seriously lacking! I loved the overall atmosphere of the restaurant /bar. I thought the dark colors and decor were appropriate for the name. When I road trip to Hudson again, I will for sure be going back here to try something new! Maybe even go on a riverboat ride... Hmmmm...

I've been here about 4-5 times, and fortunately, was never the one paying. It's a little overpriced. I understand that it's one of the "nicer" restaurants in Hudson, but it's not quite worth it- the food is good, but not exceptional. The service is slow and somewhat sloppy- hence the three star rating. The drinks are delicious, and go here during the summer, and eat on the patio- the patio is heavenly. It's not a bad place to eat, especially during the summer, if you're willing to be patient and pay for the atmosphere.

The lobster mac 'n cheese is the best! I hope they never take it off the menu. Eat on the outdoor patio if the weather allows and stay for a drink at the outdoor bar. Beautiful views of the St. Croix river and the park.

We recently had business associates in from out of town and decided to try Pier 500 for dinner. Our business is in Woodbury, so it was a nice drive. Parking was a little tricky, but there was also a large lot closed due to an event of some sort so that may have contributed to the issue. We were able to make same day reservations and were seated without a wait. We have had this group of people in for an annual event for 15+ years and I can honestly say this was the best dinner we have had in all of these years. Everyone was very pleased with their meals, from a Salad to Prime Rib to the Lobster Mac and Cheese. We were all happy campers when we were done! Our server was very helpful and we can't wait to go back again. We sat inside because it was a cool fall night, but the patio looks great. I would highly recommend Pier 500!

HORRIFIC TV placement in bar area, impossible to see the few TVs they have w/o obstruction. Very expensive menu. Had breakfast there on Sunday (served till 2:30pm - sadly one of the ONLY Places in Hudson that serves breakfast???) and it was just OK. The "herbed hashbrowns" were actually a messy cheesy creamy blob. Only two slices of toast. A REALLY small amount of veggies. Bloody marys are good though. Decent tap beers. They REALLY need more TVs/better TV placement. The game area is nice (shuffleboard, darts, buck hunter, etc.) but only 1 TV and it's often pointed toward the bar!?!?!??!?!??!

We went here to celebrate my husband's birthday-and it was good. We ate on the patio, which was a little chilly and windy. They might want to invest in those little heaters, because it gets a little cool on the water. We sat in the bar for a little while, and then had a nice dinner. They brought an ice cream sundae out for Tim, which I thought was nice-and thank God, they don't sing to you!

Get the Lobster Mac n'Cheese. It is phenomenal. It is a little spendy when you look at some of the other places around, but look at the other places around. This is the premier hot spot for Hudson. Great food moderate prices on food and drinks and the view in the summer is one of the best in the area. Love this place.

Terrific place to go.....if someone else is buying. I've had their sirloin 3 times and it was done to perfection all 3 times. Their veggies that come with their meals are good, but you don't really get a lot. Is the food great? Yes. Is it worth what you pay? No.

It's a funny thing: my life came with no rearview mirrors. As many times as I've left things behind in my life, I seem to lack the ability to sit back and think nostalgically about those things. It's not that they weren't great; it's not that every moment up until now has been miserable. But I'm not afflicted with a lot of self-doubt, so when I decide to change things, I generally don't spend a lot of time afterwards contemplating whether my decision was a good idea. But even I am not so devoid of nostalgia that I can't sit down with some old friends and laugh for hours about the good old days. And I have found a good setting for such get togethers: the sun-specked deck of Pier 500. A good selection of beers (many appropriate for brunch), decent food, reasonable service. The waitlist for the deck is understandably long (20 minutes or so). Not that I'm complaining, because I love them, but when did blue cheese cheeseburgers become so wide-spread? Go back 5-7 years ago, and you'd be hard-pressed to find them outside of artisan burger joints. And now, they're breaking out all over the place, just like peace and prosperity in the post-Korean War era. (What, you mean those filmstrips lied to me?) I can say with a great deal of confidence that this is the best river-front restaurant in Hudson.

visited on a sunday afternoon, all the seats in the sun were gone so we ate inside, seems like a cool place on a warm day. I had the meatloaf, the potatoes were kinda dry the beans were good. i also had the caramel apple martini nice kick and a good drink

I really want to rate Pier 500 higher than a 3 but I just can't. Pier 500 used to be my wife's and my stand by for a nice dinner in Hudson. The service is ok at best and the food is usually pretty good. I typically order either prime rib or a ribeye steak. The last time I was in there was on Valentine's day 2012 and the service was a bit slower than normal, which is expected for the day however my ribeye steak was absolutely awful. It was by far the absolute worst ribeye steak I have ever had in my life. The steak knife could barely cut it because it was so tough. I asked the waitress if it was actually a ribeye because of the toughness of it. I don't know that I would ever want to invest another $27 for a steak at this place again.

Great location and nice space. Have had some great meals here. Lunch today was walleye cakes appetizer and a side salad. Loved the chipotle ranch dressing. The walleye cakes were flakey and tasty. The side of hot mustard lets you control the heat. Dining friend had tomato bisque soup and a hamburger. Both were described as very good. They have a great happy hour. And they were putting out the patio tables!!! Yeah!!

If you want to feel elite in Hudson you will want to dine at the pier. The food and service is good but you will be paying a premium for what you receive. My favorite is their brunch on the weekend. Their patio also has a great view of the St. Croix river.

The views and the food are incredible. We have enjoyed lunch and dinner on their deck many times as well as special occasion dinners inside. Highly recommend their steaks and specials. It is reasonably priced for the Twin Cities as well. We're headed back in a couple of weeks to take some out of town guests.

Sit on the patio if you can...depending on the time of year! Lovely view of the river. Inside dining area is a touch on the noisy side, but good atmosphere. Service is attentive. This was my second visit, food is good, nice wine and drink selection.

Nice atmosphere and staff. I ate the grilled meatloaf which had great flavor, but the food wasn't very hot, (hardly warm). My friend had the lobster mac n cheese he loved it. I thought the meatloaf was priced a little high.

I actually think the only reason one might go here is for the view and edible food. They cornered the Hudson market on view, but the food is average and the patio seating fairly basic. My main dislike is of the service and attitude. I don't know what's with the employees of this place. The first time I ate here with my daughter, the waitress practically threw our food at us. The second time, my husband and I were up for outdoor seating and drinks. I thought I would try this place again. This time the hostess was awful. Without so much as a smile, or any glimmer of a personality, she announced that we would have an hour wait even though there were 5 tables open. I'm not one to pay for attitude so we took our business up and around the merry corner to San Pedros Cafe. Okay seriously...they may not have the view, but they have an awesome patio and incredible food! I would recommend you keep on driving past Pier 500.

My wife and I always love the food and atmosphere when we go to Pier 500. One of my favorites is the walleye. I am a good cook, so I can be pretty picky when it comes to paying for food at a restaurant...I don't mind paying for it here. We have had some questionable service at times, but overall the waitresses do a wonderful job. The menu changes enough to keep it interesting and the bar has a decent selection of tap beers.

Went to Pier 500 on a Sunday afternoon with friends. Great food and location is beautiful, situated on river. Ate out on the deck on a perfect sunny day. Service could have been a bit more attentive, i.e. shouldn't have to keep asking for coffee refills and seconds on the Sunday brunch. Overall I'd recommend it for the outstanding food.

I am being a bit more stingy with my 5 stars, this place probably deserves it. I had a great meal here, a couple drinks outside (it was cold, a bit rainy, and windy so we ate inside but, they have an absolutely gorgeous patio. They had great iced tea, I had the Ahi Tuna Appetizer, great stuff followed by a Philly Sandwich, they had a lunch fish taco that looked pretty good as well.... Great service, about twice as expensive as a subway lunch, great location (other than the Hudson part but, right across the street from the River), fantastic patio and interior and good service, good food.

Had Sunday breakfast. M had the french toast with strawberries and she passed on the meat and so they provided extra strawberries; very filling. I had the vegetarian omelete-was good--guessing 6 eggs--probably too many and the red peppers were pretty strong--toast was great and so were the Wisconsin cheesy hashbrowns--coffee was decent too and then you can go right out from the front door and walk across the pier out into the St. Croix.

We stopped for lunch here on May 5th, 2010. We started with the artichoke dip which was good. Two of ordered the fish taco's were not good. Both dishes were served cold with a cold serving of rice. We returned them. They made us a fresh serving which was warm but tasteless. The rice was forgettable and the tacos had but one flavor and that was fishy. The other two people in our party ordered hamburgers and they seemed ok but nothing outstanding. The manager made apologies for the tacos and gave us a free dessert of chocolate cake which was delicious. The server was good and well trained but would not eat there again because of the food.

This was a fun place I wasn't expecting to find in Hudson. I think this side of the river has been undergoing a change to attract an upscale crowd. The place was really nice inside and we decided to have dinner outside. The walleye was great and I was actually impressed with the presentation and flavors in the sandwiches. I can see this place as a nice place to hang out for drinks at night and a great place for lunch outside in the heat!

The service is slow and somewhat sloppy- hence the three star rating. The drinks are delicious, and go here during the summer, and eat on the patio- the patio is heavenly. It's not a bad place to eat, especially during the summer, if you're willing to be patient and pay for the atmosphere.

Nice location near the river. Good food with a decent selection of american fate. I love their blackened catfish sandwich and wild rice soup. Good place for a quiet couple drinks and some good food.

The lobster mac 'n cheese is the best! I hope they never take it off the menu. Eat on the outdoor patio if the weather allows and stay for a drink at the outdoor bar. Beautiful views of the St. Croix river and the park.

Yeah!!

This restaurant has amazing food, great atmosphere and awesome wait staff! I got the Thai chicken flatbread, mediteranean pasta and my boyfriend and I shared the chocolate fondue-- everything was presented well and very flavorful. The view is also beautiful and I would highly recommend!

If you want to feel elite in Hudson you will want to dine at the pier. The food and service is good but you will be paying a premium for what you receive. My favorite is their brunch on the weekend. Their patio also has a great view of the St. Croix river.

  • Bill N.

  • Travis F.

Nice atmosphere and staff. I ate the grilled meatloaf which had great flavor, but the food wasn't very hot, (hardly warm). My friend had the lobster mac n cheese he loved it. I thought the meatloaf was priced a little high.

  • Tina D.

  • Jennifer K.

  • Dave K.

Lobster Mac & Cheese will not disappoint. Place gets very busy on weekend at summertime due to river view location. Good beer selection. Mixed drinks spendy but at least well made. Recommend as one of the best places in Hudson (better IMHO than San Pedro by a long shot).

  • T.S. M.

  • Anne J.

I ordered a vodka cranberry and was charged an extra dollar for the cranberry. Nuff said.

    (4)

Stopped in to meet with a couple of good friends. Tried out the szechwan green beans for an appetizer and they had good flavor. Lightly breaded walley was another great choice with a side salad. Good solid dinner with the option of outdoor seating watching the river is nice.

Nice restaurant - great patio area - the inside atmosphere was on the loud side. The menu choices were varied and interesting. There were a couple of service errors which were quickly remedied. None of us had any complaints about our dishes. All in all, we had a great dinner and will definitely be back.

Pier 5000 some of the best food on the planet The Ribs are out of this world, beyond the most amazing I have ever had and the cheesecurd appetizer is out of this world!

Hmmmm...
