OMFG. Start with a delicious face-burger! With cheese! In fact, have a double! Fries are great here too as are the crispy onion rings! Nothing better than a root beer AND chocolate malt to wash it all down. Oh, then there's dessert. There's some Flavor of the Day's I absolutely hate, but to each his own...90% ROCK! My favorites are the holiday and festival-themed creations. I'd eat here EVERYDAY breakfast, lunch and dinner...but I prefer not to be the size of a whale...smallish hippo, yes...whale, no.

The first time I went to Kopp's, it was a 35-minute detour after a Woodman's beer run in Kenosha. After having tried it, I now insist on a Kopp's stop any time I come within 30 minutes of the state of Wisconsin. The custard is just phenomenal. Every scoop is a scoop of creamy sugary buttery awesome. The grill food is really great too, like the cheesy jumbo burgers, the Buffalo chicken sandwich (just about the only food on which I'll eat blue cheese), and the onion rings (omg the onion rings, always perfect how do they do it?). The space reminds me, perhaps, of a temple and meditation garden, which is fitting considering that if there were ever a place to worship at the altar of custard, this is it.

I ordered a 10 pack of Custard to be shipped to my home in Southern California. I picked 10 different flavors. Wow! I had some friends over and we REALLY enjoyed this delicious experience! Caramel cashew and the german apple streusel were my favorites, but all of them were really good. They ship it very effectively. 2 day is fine and it showed up still frozen solid. Just a masterful product. Although the shipping cost was about as much as the custard, this was well worth it and a real treat. Go for it!

Wow, this place is insanely fantastic. Didn't try the food, but the frozen custard was blow your mind good. The salted pecans in the turtle sundae were perfection. Additionally, I love that the location we visited was actually architecturally interesting and run like a well-oiled, albeit extremely busy, machine. This is not your typical frozen custard shack. Loved it. You know it's good when they can be as successful and busy as they are with only three flavors du jour. Next time we'll acutally try the food, but I will definitely be coming back for the custard.
(5)Laura F.
Strange architecture, huge tasty burgers (must be done with the works), amazing custard and great daily custard flavors, monthly shakes and sundaes, Kopps does Milwaukee proud. A must-try for any visitor - custard this good cannot be found just anywhere....
(5)julie h.
Kopps Custard is so yummy!!! I wish we had one in Illinois:)
(5)Mike W.
Kopp's is a landmark. It's first shop on Appleton Ave closed when I was a kid, but it sprung up several more locations. Each location serves excellent quality jumbo burgers about 6-7 inches across. But Kopp's is not my pick for best burger. Kopp's is my pick for best frozen custard in Milwaukee. If you don't know what frozen custard is and you are in Milwaukee don't stop at a Culver's for your first lick, head straight to Kopp's. They always have a flavor of the day, but my favorite is chocolate. It's a dark chocolate, not a sweet milk chocolate.
(4)Luke S.
One of the finest burgers in Milwaukee not to mention frozen custard (second only to Leon's) The seating area is actually outside but there is really cool lighting with wall waterfalls.
(5)Tom L.
No visit home is complete without a side trip to Kopp's. Gigantic servings of frozen custard that's made fresh on the premises. I'm always mesmerized by the glacial flow of creamy sugary goodness creeping out of the machines behind the counter. They have vanilla, chocolate and a daily flavor that is often fabulous and very generous with the mix-ins. You can also get burgers too (not worth the trip alone IMHO). This location is housed in a soaring custom-built cement-and-glass structure that has a post-modern 50's burger 'n shake joint feel. And it's so cheap!
(5)Pete P.
Great custard, that's what Kopp's is famous for. The food is good too, big burgers for sure. Prices are a little steep, but the quality is good.
(4)Aj K.
Best Bacon Cheeseburger! I like custard, but only after I eat my burger & rings. Kopp's is an institution around here, and I can tell you why, they have great food and they have great employees. I've never had a bad experience here, and I'm sure I never will. Great place to grab a burger and some rings, or fries, and a custard after. Take a seat outside during the good weather and enjoy your meal.
(5)Agnes S.
This was a totally different burger joint than I'm used to. The kitchen set-up was cool, and it was amusing getting to see how the workers did their thing. Can definitely see why this place was busy out the wazoo. The burgers and frozen custard seem simplistic, it was just good. Not to mention the portion suited the amount that was paid, plus you order your burger the way you want it made from the beginning. Hahaha... Here's a fair warning: although everything's made to order, some things could get messed up in an order. Example: The boyfriend ordered grilled onions in his burger, and didn't get any, and it was the only difference between his and mine. No biggie. Just saying.
(4)Mark G.
Ah yeah Kopps or Leon's? If it's just custard and custard only then for us it's Leon's. Kopps has good custard too, but they also have big tasty jumbo burgers. The buns are soft, thin, and big in circumference. The burger is also thin and big in circumference, so the bun to bread ratio is correct. I got a double cheeseburger with the works: ketchup, mustard, and fried onion. Greasy and a bit messy, but delicious. I've had better, but this was good. We also shared fries, and onion rings three ways. Way too much food! Eyes were definitely bigger than stomach. The fries were soft, thin, and well salted with their skins on. They were tasty. The onion rings were really good. Light crispy breading with soft onion inside. Perfect. The best rings I've had in a long time. Their custard is good. Really good. My only complaint with the custard is they put too much stuff in it. This is not an issue if you get chocolate, vanilla, raspberry, etc. It's when you get something like cherry amaretto cheesecake (which we had today) I think the ratio is off. Way too much cheesecake to custard. I've noticed this with other flavors as well. This may appeal to others, but not me. Kopps is seriously super clean. Everything they do behind the counter is on display. They're also very popular, so expect a short wait especially at peak times. As far as eating there they do have a nice patio with a waterfall that drowns out the noise from traffic. the concrete benches aren't very comfy and there are only a few small tables to stand and eat at. So it's perfect for eating ice cream, but not messy burgers. That being said when you're at Leon's you're leaning on your car or eating inside it. But honestly I don't know anybody that gets anything other than custard at Leon's.
(4)Frank A.
Love Kopps! The burgers are huge and tasty and the ice cream is delcious too!
(4)Lisa P.
I don't think I could ever say anything bad about Kopps. I grew up with it and it is iconic for a good reason.
(5)Emily S.
Burgers are delicious and big. Custard is pretty good and the place itself is really well designed, especially the open kitchen. Too bad it can be quite busy and it takes awhile to get your food. Worth the wait
(5)Samantha H.
Kopps or Leons? Kopps or Leons?! The debate is real. I mean, on one hand, you can always trust Leon's to have delicious, trustworthy butter pecan, but what's the other FOTD? (flavor of the day). Kopps is constantly keeping you in their toes with their FOTDs -- red raspberry, tiramisu, pomegranate, black forest cake. Seriously, I need to come every day to keep up with these flavors. On my most recent visit, I shared a triple scoop apple pie a la mode and tiramisu. Oh man... The apple pie was so good. It has little streusel crumbles and apple pie chunks. Not the biggest fan of coffee but the tiramisu was really tasty as well. They definitely want you in and out. There are a couple of waiting benches inside but otherwise, no tables or anything. Outside there are some stone benches but it was definitely too cold to be an option. As if the custard wasn't enough, I also ordered fries. These were only mediocre. Mcds does it better. Can't win 'em all. If you still don't believe this place is good, this place was packed... And it was 30 degrees outside.
(4)Pam H.
Best custard place around! An institution in Wisconsin. Look online for their flavor of the day!
(5)Minh-An C.
If you are familiar with Shake Shack, then Kopp's is basically S.S. of Wisconsin (maybe even better). My friend, who is a local of Wisconsin, took me here for lunch. I had the chicken LTM and it took about ten minutes for the food to come. The chicken sandwich was huge and the veggie was plentiful. I thought it is quality stuff for "fast food". Then, we went back to order our dessert. I got the turtle sundae in a waffle cone and it was delicious. I really enjoyed it. Note: there are two lines, burger line and custard/ice cream line. If you only want custard, go to the left side of the store because it is faster. Also, since I went in winter, you can't really sit outside so they have about ten small tables where you can stand and eat. If you go during summer, there is a lot of outside seating in front of the store. Definitely a must try if you are visiting Wisconsin!
(5)Amy O.
Food is good. Wait can be very long, but they do offer call-ahead ordering. Not enough seating inside for waiting for food. Nice outside bench area. Need more parking on hot summer nights.
(3)Jeremia F.
Kopp's hasn't survived this long because of all the hype on social media. This place has been cranking out excellent treats since my dad was a kid. The custard is delicious even if you aren't into the flavor of the day I recommend getting some vanilla or chocolate just to indulge in the silky creaminess of this frozen treat. Folks might get confused about the ordering process, its simpler than you think if you only want ice cream go to the left and skip the long food lines. If you want food or food and ice cream you can place your order to the right. I highly recommend trying one of these tasty cheeseburgers with fried onions. It is a must have for me everytime I visit the Milwaukee area.
(5)Dustin Z.
Kopps is pure Milwaukee. Not the cheapest burger joint (the custard is very affordable though) but that's totally fine because you get what you pay for. Gigantic burgers and sandwiches that are as delicious as they look. I wish there was a more comfortable seating situation - but accepting it as part of the aesthetic, it's OK, unique unto itself.
(5)Brian V.
Seems to be a solid choice if you're in the mood for a burger. The decor is pretty neat. Really weird that there's literally nowhere to sit and eat your food. Couple benches around, but no tables. Then there's pub height tables inside and no chairs... Again, really weird. I once ordered a burger w/ bacon & blue cheese. Nowhere on the menu does it say "blue cheese dressing", but that's what I got. I was expecting crumbles, but I won't make that ordering mistake again... Overall a nice & clean joint.
(4)Erin P.
What can I say? It's a Greenfield fixture. Come hungry, and get the cheeseburger with the works. Finish it off with a milkshake, and prepare for a food coma.
(5)Nancy G.
You don't come to a custard stand for the burger, let's just get that right out of the way. Kopp's has been a Milwaukee staple for I don't know how long. Certainly not as long as Leon's, but a looooong time, nevertheless. The 2 flavors of the day are constantly changing, but generally keep up with whatever month they are featured in: lots of cherry and strawberry flavors in February, for example. The shake of the month is done similarly: March's shake is the Irish Mint. I don't know how they choose the sundae of the month, but who cares? Those are always delicious!!! My go-to's when not having the flavor of the day are the raspberry malt and the hot fudge malt. The raspberry malt has excellent flavor, but admittedly, Leon's has more real raspberry bits in their malts. The hot fudge is NOT hot, but has the more chocolate-y flavor that you expect from hot fudge. Just stick a straw in that bad boy and suck it down. Oh, wait, you can't, because it is so dang thick that you have to eat it like a sundae until the heat of your hand has warmed it up enough to be slurped through the straw! This applies to the regular AND the thick malts, BTW! Ok, ok, their burgers are pretty darn good, so order one, if you must, but don't forget the custard! 39/2015/133
(4)Doug R.
Amazing burgers, amazing fries, overall amazing food. So glad they opened one up in Glendale! It's right in the middle between where I'm living now and where I'll be living in a few weeks. So excited to make this place a regular stop!
(5)T Z.
Kopps is the best custard place in MKE county! The food is as delicious as the custard. Never miss a chance to eat there.
(5)Gretchen S.
Cannot beat the custard creations, but love the extra large size burgers, fries and onion rings too. Can be a long line during the summer months, but worth the wait!
(4)Liz A.
I've been going here since I was a kid so naturally whenever I'm in town, I have to stop in. My go-to order is a plain cheeseburger, fries, and chocolate malt. Typically, I've ordered to go but they have a fun waterfall area outside. My fries barely make it home on the car ride but aren't you obligated to eat fries in the car? I usually sip my malt along with fries. The chocolate malt is amazing. I rarely get the flavor of the day because I love their malts so much but their rum and coke custard is amazing. To top my meal off, I like to cut my cheeseburger in quarters. Something about it being cut in four pieces makes it more enjoyable : )
(5)Joe P.
Descriptive phrase: it's Kopp's, dummy. Kopp's doesn't care about my review, and neither should you. Go order arguably the best custard in Milwaukee to go with your face-sized burger, sit on severely uncomfortable benches, and repeat for the rest of your life.
(4)Luz P.
I love Kopp's burgers and great flavored custard. Always granted great customer service.
(5)Emily Z.
The custard is always great as is the food but the staff is rude especially this girl Megan who was plain unfriendly and slammed our food down. Is the staff was nicer the establishment would be as well
(3)James C.
A must stop if you're taking a trip to Milwaukee for a Cubs-Brewers game or some such, however, I recommend not wearing a shirt that you aren't willing to have ruined by a big old grease stain as my favorite green shirt can attest. As everyone says here, it's busy and there's no actual sitting areas. There are some little standing tables and an outdoor area where one can sit on stairs or benches and what not. I recommend the cheeseburger - ketchup, mustard, pickle and onion with fries or onion rings and two scoops of the custard of the day in a waffle cone, and root beer, of course.
(4)Jennifer R.
Kopp's is a Milwaukee institution. They are one of the top two places in the Milwaukee area for frozen custard. They have so many flavors to choose from. The standards that you can get on a daily basis are chocolate and vanilla. The flavors of the day (there are usually 2) rotate and change daily. Kopp's offers a flavor alert feature that you can sign up for. You sign up with your email address. Then you create your own custom list of your favorite flavors from their list. When one of your flavors is up, you will receive an email alert to remind you. I find this to be very handy. Kopp's has a good food menu as well. The burgers are big and filling. One of my personal favorites is their fish sandwich. It is big, just like their burgers. It's even better with cheese. They also have delicious fries and onion rings for sides. If you're looking for a lighter meal, they have a great grilled cheese sandwich. Just a heads up: expect to have a longer wait in the summer months. It's not unusual to have lines that go out the doors at times.

While visiting family in Wisconsin I decided to try a Milwaukee staple, Kopps. Sadly, I was a little disappointed. The place is clearly popular, and I respect the fact that they serve frozen custard with snow on the ground, but the meal just wasn't great. I ordered a marshmallow and strawberry shake, a single cheeseburger, onion rings, and french fries (sharing with family). Service, considering the popularity and made-to-order premise, was quick. The order for three people was accurate. There is no indoor seating, so be prepared to either eat outside or take away. The food is well wrapped and we ate in the car without difficulty. The food smelled good and the portion sizes were good for the cost, around $6 for a jumbo burger. The shake was small for $4, but I could not finish it (because it's thick custard), and they can mix and match flavors. The marshmallow strawberry shake was thick and not too sweet. Unfortunately I could not taste the marshmallow flavor, but that could be because of the salt issues noted below. The burger is huge, but eat patty is thin. The bun to meat ratio is high and I would suggest just getting a double burger and eating half. Well I would suggest that if it wasn't just sooooo salty. Everything tasted solely of salt. My burger had fried onions, and even alone they tasted like little salt bombs. The meat was also a salt bomb. Even the large bun couldn't disguise the overwhelming saltiness. In the end I ate less than half. The fries weren't as salty, but they weren't that good (just kind of soggy). Hopefully this was just a post freeze fluke. Maybe I will check this out again in the summer.
(2)Chris G.
Simply the best custard around!!!!! Bring your appetite because the gigantic burgers are fantastic and tasty as all get up. Service is fast even when they are really busy! A must visit for out of towners you will not be disappointed!!!
(5)Chet M.
With the winter weather here, you can't enjoy Kopp's beautiful garden, waterfall, and look back at their Miesian masterpiece. That said, can Kopp's stand alone on their food? I'm sorry to report, NO. The chesse burgers we got were a sloppin mess from the git go - 1. No seating, only stand up tiny bar tables. Can't divvy up food for 5 of us. 2. Could see ketchup and mustard oozing out in wrapper. 3. What's with pickle slice on top of the bun on the outside? 4. Way too much ketchup, mustard, and fried onions for a slippery mess. 5. Burger diameter is large but this makes for even tougher handling. We also saw 10 people fighting to sit on the 2 coveted concrete benches inside to eat their waffle cones. W'ed come back only if they install some decent booths like any normal fast food restaurant.
(2)Sam B.
Why are looking at reviews for Kopp's? Stop, put down your phone, and go. Seriously, it is just as amazing as all of these reviews say it is. Get a cheeseburger and a custard and prepare for the grease-calorie-sugar coma to set in.
(5)Jenna O.
My favorite of the Kopp's locations. If you love custard and haven't been to Kopp's yet do yourself a favor and try a flavor today!!!!
(5)Shawn S.
We come here regularly (because my mother-in-law loves the ice cream). And deservedly so - the ice cream and the burgers are very good. I give it two stars because I've counted the smiles on the staff every time and the number remains at zero. Moreover those that run the place are constantly yelling out orders to the workers sometimes in the middle of taking my orders. So while the food is good - and the landscaping is nice - I don't believe it would be all that difficult to treat your staff with some degree of respect so that they feel like smiling while working at a "Milwaukee Landmark". I have never worked at Kopps nor do I know anyone. Review is purely from a customer perspective.
(2)Megan L.
Okay let me begin by giving y'all the lowdown. I'm new to Milwaukee and I would have never guessed by the reviews that flavored custards were only available on specific days. You cannot walk in and order a Tiramisu, sorry folks. Today was the Grasshopper Fudge and a Caramel one that looked pretty good. You can ask to sample ones you haven't tried. They have the flavors on a rotating schedule and you can see when they're being offered by going to their website. I personally can't wait to try Oreo Blue Moon. They offer vanilla and a few other staples daily, but that's it. The grasshopper had awesome fudge pieces that they put in right before they scoop it and the scoops are more than generous. I got a waffle cone, 3 scoops. Ha, I'm obsessed. It was about 5 bucks. I got a pint of vanilla. I think my whole order was about $10. The most important part is that they offer waffle cones, which is way better than those regular cones. I seriously couldn't believe how packed this place was. The parking lot was practically full. I tried their burger; huge and pretty good. Nothing to rave about. I'm a stickler for homemade burgers on the grill though. The seating arrangement is bleak. They have tall tables inside and a courtyard you can enjoy when the weather is nice. Also you can ask if they have the flavor from the previous day. They save leftovers and put them in quarts, which is great if you missed a flavor you wanted. But get there early because they run out. The custard is delicious!! So worth the drive to Greenfield. I will definitely be back to try other flavors! And I'm excited about my pint. Yay.
(4)Nathan T.
Kopp's is my favorite frozen custard place. The food is also great. This is the perfect place for a good jumbo burger followed by either the frozen custard flavor of the day or a sundae. I have way too many favorite flavors to list. Check out their app where it sends you a notification when your favorite flavors are being served!
(5)Adam R.
Best butter burgers in the world, Custard is amazing. When I hear people in Chicago rave about Culvers I just shake my head. A true Milwaukee icon.
(5)Peter B.
Amazing burgers and cool custard make Lyft drivers struggle to resist the magnetic gravitational pull every time we drive past. Definitely a stop you can't miss!
(5)Cameron B.
As a Southerner, a typical burger joint experience for me is a greasy, gritty location that is pumping out slabs of mediocre meat with lackluster toppings. So, when we pulled into Kopp's parking lot, I immediately was under the impression that they held themselves to a higher standard. We walked in, and I was slightly overwhelmed by the interior, but in a good way. It was slightly futuristic, but at the same time, wonderfully retro. Had no one had iPhones and the Point of Sale machines not been electronic, I would have sworn that I had walked through a time portal straight into the 60's. After a short wait, I ordered a cheeseburger with grilled onions, as well as onion rings. I assumed that seating was around the side, but surely indoors. I was surprised to find out the cool little concrete garden outside was the seating area. Neato! I received my meal, and was pleasantly surprised to find that the burger was much larger than I was expecting it to be, for it to be priced so well-- In atlanta, a burger that size would run from $9-12, and be much more foofy and less interesting. The Kopp's burger was simply fantastic, and although I can't confirm, I am pretty sure the burger buns were buttered as well as topped as I ordered. Awesome! Now, I saved the next to last paragraph of my review to gush about the paramount of my Kopp's experience: CUSTARD! Oh my good gravy. This was my first experience with custard, and I'd all but swear off of ice cream and frozen yogurt if custard were more available in the South. I had the Caramel custard shake, extra thick. There's just a different texture that comes with eating custard, that ice cream or frozen yogurt will never be able to deliver. Not only that, custard is by far more delicious than the other two aforementioned inferior dessert counterparts. This visit occurred during my first trip to Milwaukee, right before we got back on the plane home. Boy, am I glad we stopped in. It was a unique experience on an atypical Wisconsin fall day (sunny and over 70 degrees), and I long for my return for my next meal there.
(5)Alexander Z.
Full disclosure: I worked here for 3 years, so I have a definite bias. That being said, this place has, and I mean this, the best custard in the entire country. (I'm talking to you, Culver's!) The custard is made with only the freshest and finest ingredients Karl Kopp can afford (which are usually local as well!), and any shake or sundae is made with the same high-quality custard. The burgers are still 1/3 pound burgers and are absolutely delicious. Whether you are looking for a genuine Wisconsin burger or the finest custard around, definitely hit up Kopp's!
(5)Cynthia F.
Best Wisconsin custard ever!!!! This is my favorite place to go in the summer! What a yummy treat it is!
(5)Michelle L.
When I come home, one of the first places I want to go to is Kopp's. Now their custard is good, REALLY good, but often when I go I don't get it. Mostly because I just don't have a big sweet tooth. I ALWAYS get without a doubt the fish sandwich with cheese an order of onion rings or fries. I have nothing bad to say about this place. The food is consistently great and the people who work there, in my opinion, are the luckiest people in the world. If you're EVER in the area, within 100 miles of Kopp's, you better go!
(5)Donnie R.
This is one of my favorite places for a burger. Even if your hungry one burger will do, they are decent sized. Don't worry if you walk in and see a large crowd of people. This is very normal, especially on a hot summer evening. Make your ordering experience even easier if you are just there for custard check out the registers on your left. If your looking for food step to the registers to the right. Many of people have argued about who has better custard Kopp's or Leon's. Well all I can say about that is I like them both. They do have a rotation of flavors for the day, many of them rotate about every 10 days. So if you miss it, no worries it will be back in just over a week. Here is a hint if you like to buy their custard in pints, quarts and half gallons. You can get the flavor of the day from the previous day at half price. This is of course limited to what they were not able to sell the previous day. So don't be upset if they are out.
(5)Jennifer T.
We waited over 20 minutes for a hamburger and fries. With as many people working behind the counter as there were, there was no reason to wait that long. The food was..just ok. Having to sit and eat with no table is not ideal either.
(2)Marc R.
The custard here is good and changes every day (great stuff), but in the war between custards I still go with Leon's on 27th street (who actually was a friend of Kopp's founder Elsa Kopp). I even visited the original Kopp's at 6005 W. Appleton Ave in the heart of Milwaukee before it (sadly) closed. I still think that should be a Kopp's and a historical landmark. The Glendale location (before it was a Kopp's) was the inspiration for Al's in Happy Days. We are talking street cred when we are talking about Kopp's. But, the reason I come here is the burgers! Kopp's makes a burger to beat all burgers. This is not some mumbo jumbo burger named after a rock band from the 1970s with cheese from out of state, it is an American Milwaukee classic like PBR, Pabst, Blatz, Miller, and even the mythological Fonz. First, the burger is huge - not that it is a 19 oz burger, but that it is about the size of a small Frisbee. You can get a double if you are insane. They are made fresh to order, and you pay for things you don't pay for at some places, but they are so freaking good. Just walk in and you will see the giant buns custom made for this place. Big as your head, I am telling you! Second, the burger is a butter burger. Not your run of the mill butter burger but a real Wisconsin original butter burger (some of us Dairy State natives debate the branding of ButterBurger by a Wisconsin chain from "up north"). Anyhow, this is a Milwaukee area butter burger and it can beat up your chain store butter burger any old day. The Kopp's at 76th and Layton is easy for those driving through Milwaukee on the bypass, so I tell everyone from Chicago that this is where they should stop for food on the way down home from up north. Parking can be hard to get. They should have a guy with an order machine like In-N-Out Burgers has in California (just an idea). There is parking behind the Starbucks in a lot that is not easily seen from the street (but is closer to the building in fact).
(4)bill s.
I am profoundly disappointed. Not in the quality of the product or the service but in whoever picks out their monthly flavors. 2nd month in a row there will be no Mocha Chip. They have not had Simple Simon is probably a year. For Sept they have Bienenstichkuchen 4 times, twice within about 6 days of each other. Terrible decision making.
(2)Lillian W.
Awesome burgers. Juicy and tasty. Not a big fan of the seating arrangements though.
(4)Agustin M.
There's no words to describe how awesome this place is..... 5 stars all the way!!! There custard is out of this world!!! They have to be one of the best burger and custard shop I have ever been to.
(5)Lupe G.
OMG; THIS PLACE IS DA BOMB! They have a flavor of the day; often awesome. This is some gourmet shit! : D
(5)Richard B.
This particular Kopp's is one of the places I take anyone who's visiting the Milwaukee area for the first time. I've never seen a longer counter in any other fast-food or ice cream place. The architecture of the building and outdoor dining area is interesting. The burgers and custard are wonderful, too.
(5)Katie G.
I drove by Kopp's the other day and contemplated how I had not eaten there in quite some time. I searched online the the flavors of the day were okay sounding, but then I saw that in 2 days the FOTD was going to be Grasshopper. OMG, yes I'll wait 2 days. The next day brought sadness as I drove past the Kopp's in Brookfield, yearning for a burger, but I had to hold out for Grasshopper custard. The best day finally arrived and I went out for lunch to satisfy my craving. A burger, fries and some delicious custard. Heck, I even picked up another pint of Grasshopper for some co-workers who enjoy minty frozen dairy treats as much as I do. I've been to Kopp's growing up my whole life, but I have to say that my most recent burger was so fantastically awesome, it surprised me. It may have been that my craving was so big, or it had been so long since I'd had a burger there -- regardless it was wonderful, and I devoured it in less than 7 minutes. I saved my dish of Grasshopper custard for a little later in the day and was not disappointed. Great minty flavor (not like a Shamrock shake, which did disappoint me greatly the other day) and lots of fudgy brownie chunks in the mix. Heaven. If you've never been, the patties are not thick, but they are big around - like a DVD. The aren't stingy with the toppings either - I had enough ketchup and pickles for multiple burgers! The buns soak in the right amount of greasiness from the burger and I love the little extra pickle at the top of each burger!! The fries are thin - almost a little larger than matchstick size, and are average. I know others love the onion rings - but they aren't my style, so I'll take their word for it. In general the custard is great - smooth and creamy, with a great flavors and also not skimping on the additions (cookie dough, caramel, etc). I pity those that don't live close enough to Kopp's to enjoy it when they wish.

The custard is the best! It has to be the smoothest, creamiest ice cream you will ever have. They have 2 flavors a day, which are listed on the "Flavor Forecast" online, so check their website. They also make vanilla and swiss chocolate flavors daily. I usually make the drive from the Chicago area to Kopp's just for a meal. And I also plan my trips so that I can bring a pint or two home. I always ask for previous day's pints just in case they still have them. They normally don't have them since they sell yesterday's flavors for half off the next morning!!! That's a much better deal than a pint from the grocery store. Definitely a Wisconsin gem. The burgers are just okay in flavor (but very large). After eating In N Out on the reg in Cali, I still yearn for a hamburger, Animal style.

I never expected a suggestion from Jane and Michael Stern's Road Food website to look like this. I took more photos of the modern architecture and the waterfall then the food. The place is a mixture of custards, burgers and families reinvented in a setting reminscent of how Taco Bell was reimagined for Judge Dredd. Kopp's makes good burgers and malts, too.

Hands-down better than Leon's. Yeah, it's a dollar more expensive, but you're talking about a $2.35 snack/scoop of ice cream which is cheap by most standards. My first visit, I had the grasshopper fudge, which was a mint custard base with CHUNKS of brownies (or what the menu describes as "truffels") stirred in. Delicious!! It was rich, the truffels were plentiful, and it was a fabulous bite. It certainly melted really fast, since it was plenty hot that day. My second visit, I had the butter pecan. WAY better than Leon's. And on my third (yesterday), I had the caramel cashew. I had the caramel cashew in a cup and was much more able to appreciate the super thick, dense, texture of the frozen custard. When you're licking something, it tends to feel the same all around and I couldn't really distinguish from other soft serve. I wish I was staying long enough to sample more flavors throughout the month - for example, German apple strudel, orange cream and others. This will be the only thing I'll miss about Milwaukee. Everything else pretty much sucked. The location is very quaint. Kinda nostalgic with the whole "bar hop" type vibe, but then there's this trendy waterfall/outdoor seating area that lights up at night.

http://stevelerer On the way back to Chicago from a wedding my friends Renee, Gavin, and I stopped by Kopp's to grap some burgers and frozen custard. Kopp's is mostly a fast food place with upscale custard. When we arrived I was super excited to see that one of the specials was grasshopper fudge custard! We ordered our food and, once we received it, took up residence on a bench around the corner of the restaurant. I first ate the burger which was pretty good. It was a relatively standard with a thin patty with thick cut vegetables and a chewy bun. It tasted good but it was not the reason I came to Kopp's After finishing the burger I dove into the custard. Grasshopper Fudge is everything I like in ice cream. Mint and chocolate custard with fudge swirled into the mix. This was the first time I ever had frozen custard and it will not be the last. The custard was an interesting combination thick and creamy. I could take the cup, turn it upside down, and the custard did not move at all. Yet when I took a bite it was probably the smoothest dessert I had aside from pudding. The mint sang through and balanced extremely well with the chocolate. Each spoonful also brought a little fudge to the table which added to the richness of the entire cup. I polished off my cup of custard without any hesitation and could have gone back for more. I am glad that I finally made it to Kopp's, the custard was everything it was made out to be. The burger was good but definitely not the star of the show. I imagine that is why it is not called Kopp's Burgers and Custard. Next time you are in Wisconsin you should swing by and hope they have grasshopper fudge on the menu. You will not be disappointed! Overall Review: 7/10

People on the outskirts of Milwaukee freaking love their Kopp's frozen custard. We went as they were within an hour of closing pretty late on a Saturday night and the place was packed! They had an awesome garden seating area outside that people were hanging out in (even though it was raining). Yeah, the custard was awesome, but I wish there was a little more variety for a place that massive.

When we pulled up to Kopp's I thought it was going to be a small frozen custard stand, but it was a large modern custard/burger shop. Awesome outdoor seating for a warm night, delicious custard, I had the chocolate and chocolate chip cookie dough, the cookie dough was perfectly soft, prices are very reasonable and scoops are huge, I cannot wait to try the tiramisu!

I'm straying from my usual "full scale" review to put in a note about Milwaukee's Ice Cream Institution, Kopps. My family and I have had the pleasure of stopping here twice in the last few months, and each time we agree we're lucky they're in Milwaukee, or we'd all be 300 pounds!! The burgers are good, not great as some have claimed. They are HUGE, and good for a drive-in, truly tasty (best in the world, no... best in the area, yes). The fries we had tasted a bit old, as if they'd sat in the warmer too long. My "complaint" with the food section is that it's very limited. If you don't like burgers, eat somewhere else, because there simply isn't much more on the menu here. The custard is their sweet spot (pun intended). As other yelpers note, it is creamy perfection, with each flavor of the day thoughtfully created and spot on (oh, thank you Ice Cream Gods for striking the Kopps inventor with the idea of pancake-and-maple-syrup ice cream!!!!). Whenever possible, and even remotely close to a Kopp's we'll be stopping at a minimum for the custard...

Haven't had a burger from here in a while. My tastes have changed to really like medium rare burgers, so I didn't have a lot of hope for this one. I really enjoy it so even though it was done well done it was still very juicy without being greasy. The double burger was a nice balance for the large bun. It really made me remember the move things about wi custard stands. I didn't care for the fries a they were shoestring. They tasted good but just not my favorite form for fries.

Superb custard, hamburgers and milkshakes. An all-around good time. Really. At our first and only visit to Kopps, a few weeks back, Andy and I shared a Hamburger with (almost) all of the fixings and a Root Beer custard shake - regular (because we weren't looking forward to popping any blood vessels). Solid prices and lovely flavors. The sterile atmosphere was a bit off-putting. The only saving grace was that it was a bright and sunny day so the outside seating was not minded at all. P.S. What's the deal with the cows in the back, slash -- the one black one...?
(5)Kailey M.
If you live in Wisconsin and haven't been to Kopps at least once, I almost don't know how you can call yourself a Wisconsinite.
(5)Stephen S.
Custard is ridiculously tasty and that flavor forecast is super helpful for stalking flavors. If I didn't live so far away from Milwaukee I'd plan my visit around what the special offerings were for each day but the standard vanilla is tasty enough to get by. I shared the large sundae of the month (strawberry rhubarb) which was a boat of deliciousness, truly a serving for two or more people. The only confusing thing to me as a first time visitor was which line to stand in to get what. I only had time to visit one frozen custard place while visiting Milwaukee but I'm glad I picked Kopp's and if I came back I'd definitely choose Kopp's again!
(4)Anthony K.
Absolutely love this place! You literally cannot go wrong with any flavor of ice cream. The food is also pretty good, I stop by once and a while for a burger but I usually come for the ice cream just like everyone else. It can get busy, but the wait is usually pretty short even with a ton of people.
(5)Jay N.
This location has plenty of charm with the waterfall and indoor high tables where you can people watch. Parking is pretty convenient with access from both streets since it's on the SW corner of the intersection. The left side is just for custard while the right side is for ordering the food so if you're here for just dessert or a snack, they can take care of you quickly or you can enjoy a nice meal here. The burgers are pretty good here and are made to order so it's not just waiting under a heat lamp. I like getting the caramelized onion on the burger as well instead of just getting a hot burger with everything else cold. The fries are nice and crisp and can easily be dipped into the custard if you're looking for your own side sauce. The custard is nice and solid, literally. It keeps its texture pretty well compared to their competition. Having two flavors of the day is also a good touch to always keep you interested. My last time was mint chip as well as chocolate cookie dough. Their forecasts also contain regional ingredients and real fruit flavors. Prices have always been fair. My main issue with Kopp's is inconsistent service with the younger staff and having take home flavors from previous days. Sometimes I miss out on a flavor and would like to have it for another day!
(4)Joe W.
My favorite place to eat in Milwaukee. This is my one mandatory stop when I'm in town. They have the best frozen custard in the world, and make a really darn good burger too. Kopp's makes me wish Yelp had a five-and-a-half star option.
(5)Corrin C.
Growing up in WI I miss frozen custard so much!!!! I guess I'll have to suffice with Yogurtland in Cali..although it's not even close. Kopps is absolutely the number one WI indulgence that I have to satisfy when I make it out this way. Each day there is a flavor of the day..sometimes two. The custard is creamy and there are always so many little chunks of delicious treats in the custard depending on the flavor of the day. My top favs are: Turtle, Cookies and Cream, Strawberry Cheesecake, and German Chocolate Cake..Yummy!!! Oh and if you are in the mood for a hamburger...Kopps has the best..bring your appetite...they're HUGE!!!

WHAT THE LIVING HELL???... I know it's difficult to get pants-pissing excited about a review for Kopp's, but I'll try to make it interesting.... WHAT THE PLACE IS ABOUT... Sugar, Salt, Chocolate, and Fat. That's the stuff that Kopp's-inspired dreams are made of, I'm afraid. Don't get me wrong, there is a time and place for everything. And based on the eclectic bunch of Kopp's groupies, well, let's just say that they are no strangers to lard. HALT, WHO GOES THERE.... Case in point, the token patron de jour--there is at least one of these guys trolling around Kopp's every time I've been in there, which is maybe once a year. It's the obese, gray-haired, bearded guy. Is he a wizard in search of Harry Potter as well as the perfect burger? Is he a hassidic garden gnome trying to alert Travelocity vacationers to one of Milwaukee's iconic Frozen Custard Stands? Is he a Warlock-in-training, trying to steal Kopp's recipe for the "secret sauce", or perhaps Santa Clause, incognito, on an endless quest for a frosty treat? More likely, he's a lonely south-side spinster with a craving for what so many Milwaukeans have a taste for now and then. If you can get past the endless yards of polyester that have been sacrificed to cloak the burger-bingers, you will notice the bizarre character of the Kopp's architecture. ANSEL ADAMS MEETS BOWLING ALLEY? It's like a sterile surgical center, clad in stainless steel. But with suspended beams and cables, and, and, and...BOWLING BALLS? Add a water fountain, concrete benches, high-top tables for small groups, and a park-like atrium just outside the terrazzo floors and swooping electric doors. The lighting inside? It will blind you with science, Ms. Sakamoto. And the "soda jerks?" It is like an optical illusion, where everyone else is in color, and only they are minted in black and white. It is like looking into a real-life, animated, Ansel Adams photograph. Look amongst the restaurant and you see in living color again. It really messes with your head! THE FOOD... The parking lot is full at all times, so navigating it can be a challenge. Now, I don't eat custard, burgers, or fries. But from the looks of it, and the non-stop traffic, I'd say Kopp's has mastered the almighty grill and soda fountain. The custard flavors rotate, and usually incorporate candy. The white paper bags of crinkle-cut fries are hot from the fryer, because I saw steam rising from someone's bag when they took it outside. The portions are astonishingly as large as the people that eat them. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with extra pickles and it was a huge, tasty flattened filet with actual grill marks, perfectly done, and mildly seasoned. Kudos to Kopp's on the filet. The bun was a commercial, pasty, white bleached flour bakery bun. If Kopp's would replace this with a Kaiser roll and toast it, it would make the sandwich phenomenal. The ticket on the sandwich was $4.75, but being that it's a Karl Kopp owned enterprise, the pickles were an additional dime, making it $4.85 plus tax. (You aren't going to get anything free from Karl.) But hey, in all fairness, it was the only thing I ate today, and I'm completely full. That should tell you something about the portions. At the end of the day, Kopp's offers some good food in its designated category. And it's nice to indulge once in awhile. If you want to eat as healthy as possible, go for the grilled chicken and keep the condiments to a minimum. THE VERDICT IS IN... Three savory stars for a classic Milwaukee landmark that serves up some respectable jumbo burgers and custard. Having made my pilgrimage, I don't have to do this for at least another year.

How good is Kopps? Well, I always stop at Kopps on the way home to Chicago whenever I drive through Wisconsin, even if I'm going to Madison or Prarie Du Chien or wherever. Doesn't matter how much time it adds, gotta go. Also, my girlfriend, who is lactose intolerant, will never eat more than a bite of my ice cream, else she'll get sick. Well, after the first bite, she took a few more and had a serious will power crisis as to whether or not to get her own cone. I think if we didn't have to drive in a car for 90 minutes to get home, she would have. On my last trip here, I got the Maple Syrup and Pancakes frozen custard. It was outstanding. I didn't think it would be so good, but it just goes to show you the inventiveness and care that is being put into the specialty flavors at Kopps, and this experimentation and attention to craft should be commended. I hear that the other food here (burgers and such) is also pretty good, but I'll never know because it's all custard all the time for me.
(5)Stephanie B.
Yep, hands down the best frozen custard ON THE PLANET. So good that my Mom even sends me their custard, on dry ice, for Christmas (vanilla with their fudge sauce and addicting pecans.. holy moly!!!!!). Yes, this is totally possible, and absolutely, it is totally and completely worth it. Um.. try a hot fudge milkshake and an order of fries and you will be in heaven. Guaranteed.
(5)Zach T.
Hands down the best burger I have ever eaten in my life. Best. Burger. In. America. I'll wake up in the middle of the night from a feverish dream that most likely involved a Kopps burger. I would seriously not even think twice about driving all the way up to Milwaukee (I live in Alabama) just to eat here.
(5)Tony J.
Very awesome custard. The butter-almond was superb! Vanilla is great too. Burgers are very good and fries are awesome too. I would rate the burger in my top 10 for Milwaukee. Service is great and the staff is very professional, busy, and fast moving. Decor is clean, stainless, and cold Most people get their food to go, and many eat outside, great atmosphere to enjoy an icecream in the summer. A must for anybody in town at least once or twice Prices are still very reasonable
(4)Abigail G.
If you're not watching your figure and are in the mood for some really good "boy food", Kopps is definitely a Milwaukee Must. The huge gooey cheeseburgers, warm french fries, crunchy onion rings and creamy custard is the best we have. I grew up going here with my family and now am following the tradition to turning my boyfriend onto the food. It's his favorite place to eat when he's in town. The strawberry custard is my families favorite and always find a way to buy a quart to take home and share. Fast, friendly and fabulous!
(5)lisa b.
oh so good! if your in Milwaukee do yourself a favor and get some frozen custard! a few different flavors daily. I had the cherry and it was so so good. they mix in some fresh treats in the custard
(5)Brian E.
While this is a Custard Joint this is specifically a burger review. Why? If you talk to enough residents around town people will eventually mention a Kopp's burger. Perhaps you've never been because you are never in the vicinity. Perhaps you are in the vicinity but never cared to venture in. As stated in another review by Dude B these burgers are thin and large in diameter. No frills found here and for a lot of people that works. To me... it's really a grease disk. Not that there is anything wrong with a greasy burger but this is so basic all it has going for it is the size. Standard toppings and basic fries will accompany your meal. This is one of those places that I forget about and then go back to getting virtually the same thing and winding up regretting that I didn't spend my money differently. I guess you are going to go here if you are in the area craving a burger and cannot travel a bit further for lunch. For me that was the case. We were pinched for time and craved burgers. We then immediately regretted our decision when the food hangover kicked in and no one got anything done. It is entirely possible to get a nice sized burger for lunch and not be a big waste of space for the day. They don't advertise any special quality ingredients and that shouldn't be expected at a place like this. It's a custard joint. They've probably been making this same style burger longer then I have been alive. That may have passed for acceptable long ago but today there are far better options out there. Fresh organic ingredients from the beef to the fixings and you can tell a difference when you eat it. If you are traveling around in search of good burgers and must try all the well known on top of the small gems then you may as well go here. Other then that I would always recommend getting some friends or family together and traveling a little ways and getting a better quality burger. Since there is no waiter service I cannot comment on the service. Places like this have turn around at the counter. The high school kid taking your order could be replaced by a retired senior by the time you are back. Their one job is to be polite and accurately take your order. After that you have no further interaction with them. The environment itself is as no frills as the burger. It feels sterile. Overall it's a cheap custard shop burger (a class of it's own) but even when compared to other style burgers (Golden Gyros) it falls short.

My favorite 'fast food' burger in the world. Huge burger.... HUGE. The burger is topped with a hunk of butter so it can get kind of sloppy when the butter melts so leave it partially in the wrapper while you eat, almost like a burrito. The cheese is thick and gooey. The patty itself is pretty thin but has enough flavor so I'm not complaining. For the size of burger you get, the price is more than affordable. The seating in is less than optimal, especially in winter. There are only a few benches to sit on inside and then some tall bar-stool height tables but no seats. It's better to go in summer when you can sit outside by the waterfall. For dessert, try the chocolate peanut butter log. The dish is lined in hardened chocolate, with a layer of creamy peanut butter, then more hardened chocolate. Then the dish is filled with three scoops of Kopps' amazing custard... topped off by more hardened chocolate and peanut butter. It is far too huge to eat on your own, especially if you just ate a burger before. It's a great size to split with two or three people for $5 total. If you're a visitor or a resident, Kopps is a MUST! In every review I read, other restaurant's burgers are ALWAYS compared to Kopps. This place is the benchmark for burgers in Wisconsin.
(5)Stephen M.
Butter burgers here beat the hell out of Culver's, but I go here for the fish sandwich with cheese (of course) that's also cheaper than a McD's filet, and the custard. The decor makes this a place that everyone should check out at least once. And the little garden area outside is pretty nice looking as well. The sublime a.c. in the hot summer months is a fond memory too. Anyway, the important part...the custard. The basic vanilla and chocolate (swiss) are decent enough, but it's the flavor forcast that sets the standard. With two new flavors every day, and a constant rotation, they could've done a random whatever and put a sign up like Culver's. But no, not Kopp's. Here, you know the entire month ahead of time every flavor that will be served. I know that I'll stop in on the 24th for Night Rider, because chocolate custard with oreo and marshmallow = win. It's that easy. And then there's the gift delivery. You can order 10 pints to be sent in dry ice and a cooler as a gift. I'm trying to find out if it's logistically possible to have one of these sent to a friend in Afghan right now. With some crazy sundae's and a wide selection of shake flavors, a monthly over the top shake and sundae feature, and consistent food, this place should be a staple for everyone.

As Milwaukee as Lavern & Shirley.... Kopp's or Leon's; LaFuente or Botana's; AJ Bomber's or Sobelman's... These are the great debates of the Milwaukee casual dining scene. While each has its merits, everyone has their favorite. In the Milwaukee "food war" debate over my favorite custard stand, I'm a Kopp's guy, hands down. Here's why: 1. Kopp's custard is superior. Especially the Chocolate. Period. End of debate. My wife prefers Leon's to Kopp's custard. I married her anyway. 2. Far more menu options at Kopp's than at Leon's, both for food and custard. Some may like the quaintness of the limited menu at Leon's, but not I McFly.. 3. Awesome Burgers. I've been known to dominate a double-cheese burger. I'm not proud of it, I'm just saying... Perfect amount of greasiness of the meat topped with the correct amount of cheese on a bun that is lightly toasted and not too big to get in the way. I respect their "single size" fries, and of course, Sprecher Root Beer (Yes Kyle K, you are not alone my friend). 4. Super clean locations. So clean and efficient you would think that the German's are running it. All locations have nice outside sitting areas for enjoying your food in summer. 5. Wax paper bags. Really? Still? That's awesome. Kopp's is a perennial stop for all out-of towners. Ask any displaced Milwaukeans around the country what they miss most about Milwaukee. I guarantee that 99% of them will say "Kopp's."
(5)Dom G.
Delicious frozen custard, decent burgers, the bun is always a little flat and leaves something to be desired. Every time I decide I'm I'm the mood for a kopps burger I'm always a LITTLE disappointed. Not because the foods not good (for a frozen custard joint) ,rather because I didn't spend the extra calories on something a bit more spectacular. I've been enjoying kopps since I was a kid and it'll always have a place in my heart there's just so many other places I wish I would have rather eaten at all of which seem to pop into my head as I'm eating a kopps burger. You won't be let down... Just a PSA, if your enjoying a rare treat, try something else.

If I live in Milwaukee for 20 more years, maybe I will understand why people love this place so much. As an outsider looking in, this is what I take away: 1. Stainless steel everything, automatic hand washing machine station for employees, all white uniforms (including shoes), and ice cream coming out of the ice cream maker going straight into giant vats, all for you to see. This place is like Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. 2. Burger patties are thin but large in diameter. Super salty and not that impressive. 3. I have had some pretty bland tasteless custard and some pretty tasty custard. That covers all the major food groups that Kopp's offers. It's niche is to fill you up with greasy food and cool it down with some tasty sweets. A million years running and a million happy customers can't be wrong, right?
(3)Alyssa N.
A great variety of ice cream flavors, pretty standard prices for the most part, a nice seating area if you go outside. Its a nice place to hang out and get ice cream on a nice day
(4)Charles E.
Its not ice cream it's custard ok. I get it but it's still ice cream just thicker. Tasted really rich. They have burgers and fries but I only tried the custard. Place is big, all stainless steel. lots of counter help they move people out quickly so don't worry if the place looks crowded when you arrive, Even if you have to wait a litlle, it's worth it.
(4)Angela K.
Kopp's is the epitome of Wisconsin fountain shop culture. Seriously, their custard is the best custard I've ever had in my life. Culvers, Leons, others can't beat it. Plus, there are so many flavors and sundaes to choose from each day! I love the turtle sundae. Also, I'm a vanilla girl--can't get enough vanilla ice cream or custard in my life. Take it from one who knows, Kopp's vanilla custard is the best. One more thing: HUGE SANDWICHES!!! Seriously, some of the biggest burgers and sandwiches you could ever buy. They literally are the size of your head--please see my photo for reference. I love the fish sandwich with cheese and tartar sauce. Delicious grilled cheese too. Nomnomnom.
(5)Kiki H.
Whenever I visit WI, I always must make it to a few restaurants, and Kopp's is definitely one of them. This is REAL custard, not the shit in California that claims to be "custard." You haven't had real custard until you have been to the midwest, and I have found no place better than Kopp's (except maybe Gilles or Leon's in Milwaukee). Kopp's has so many flavors and each one is freaking amazing.
(5)Bob J.
HUGE burgers and great ice cream, every time we are near this place we need to stop and grab some frozen custard. Always make sure to visit this place when in the area.
(5)Elizabeth H.
99% of the time, I am a strict vegetarian, meaning I cannot say vegan due to the fact that on days like today, I want some CHEESE! I was listening to a program on 89.7 about grilled cheese, and I said to myself, "self, I'm going to Kopp's for a grilled cheese and pickle sandwich!" That was the best decision I have made all day! I have loved Kopp's for as long as I can remember. It was my first job when I was 15. I made the shakes and sundaes...and I wore them all over my clothes. The restaurant is clean and the food is consistently delicious. The owner and managers are good people. The same managers that I had when I was 15 still work there. That is a testament to the way that the owner, Karl Kopp, treats his employees, and for that, the whole establishment gets an "A" in my book. My favorite sundae of all time: Hot fudge and raspberry! My favorite shake or malt: Cherry! My favorite custard flavor: Tiramisu! Although I don't eat meat at all, I remember LOVING the burgers and chicken sandwiches, with pickles-a-plenty! If ever I were to end this vegetarian thing (probably won't happen), Kopp's would be where the ship went down!
(5)Brad S.
I've been eating Kopp's for as long as I can remember, and it's amongst the quintessential definition of frozen custard. Lord knows what made Elsa Kopp choose to serve custard rather than ice cream (or what made Milwaukee a breeding ground for this vastly superior dish to begin with), but I'm glad they did. While we perfected frozen custard by the 1950s, we had a long way to go on the hamburgers, fries, and onion rings which served as the drive-in staples of the time. As a result, I 'm not as big of a fan of the non-frozen offerings, though I found both the burger and rings to be fine versions of the classical representations of each of these items. There are plenty better to find in the city, but the custard? The custard is all you need.
(5)Phimmy P.
I'm not typically a burger person but this is the only burger joint that I go to. You definitely get your money's worth!! My usual is the cheeseburger with everything on it. When I first came here the amount of food was too much for me. Eventually after coming here so often my stomach got used to it. Now I could finish up my usual cheeseburger, ice cream, and a shake! This place is amazing, especially on warm summer nights. Here's a tip: grab their Flavors Menu, carry it with you everywhere (that's what I do); you will then see all of the yummy flavors they have to offer!!
(5)Aimee Pearl A.
Kopp's can be be simply summed up in three words: Guilty. Ass. Pleasure. Guilty: Yes, I had the most amazing, succulent cheeseburger with Nueske's bacon and fried onions. Oh, and I suppose I had a scoop of delicious custard, too. Although, did I mention that the dish of custard comes with a triangle wafer? Does that count as communion?? Ass: Yup. That's where it all went. And that's where it shall remain until Zumba has been applied...thoroughly. Pleasure: Liz Lemon would approve.

Ok. I have eaten here many, many times like nearly all Milwaukee residents. But trying to be a little more health conscious, I have stayed away for a long while. Oh how I have missed it. That is until last Saturday when I saw that they had Red Velvet Cake custard as a flavor of the day. Goodbye willpower, hello decadence. Holy crap that stuff was good!! It may have been in part due to the fact that I haven't had custard in a while, but I don't think that had that much to do with it. I walked in and was immediately hit with the smell of cooking hamburgers and I had to use every ounce of willpower to NOT go order a burger with my custard. Oh how I wanted one. Nothing smells as good as that. I think my eyes may have actually glazed over and drool collected in the corners of my mouth for a minute before I was brought back to this earth when the friendly young counter worker asked what I would like. Now as I have stated, I haven't been here in a while, and both my wife and I each ordered 2 scoops of the Red Velvet custard. That is one helluva lot of custard!! Forgot that too. We raced outside to return to our car, me holding the cup of custard like a holy chalice until I got in the car and could take that first heavenly bite. WOW!! Both of us looked at each other with wide dopey grins and giggled like grade school girls and began to gobble up our custard with abandon. We ate and ate until we hit bottom. Then the reality of the moment set in and we realized that we ate way to much. Both of our stomachs filled, and our pleasure center over filled, we both agreed that as good as this stuff is, we will not be getting 2 scoops again. Not that it isn't that good, just that 2 scoops of that rich, creamy goodness is probably not the most healthy idea. (Plus I reasoned that with only 1 scoop, I might have room for a burger as well!) So run don't walk to Kopp's the next time you see Red Velvet Cake as the flavor of the day. I know I will. I can always go get some new larger jeans to wear.

After lunch at Noodles, we stopped here for dessert. My friend had a Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cone and I had a "Chunky Monkey" Shake. It was Banana Custard with Chocolate Fudge pieces mixed in. It was really good and went down fast(too fast!). Kopp's is a Milwaukee area tradition that shouldn't be missed!

This time of year is when I'm missing Kopp's the most! Although Kopp's does serve up a great burger, chicken sandwich and some delicious onion rings, the thing that I am craving the most is it's fabulous custard. With at least 3 flavors to choose from a day, Kopp's can always put a smile on my face. On a nice warm summer day, or night, it's great to sit in their outdoor garden and enjoy your ice cream with a friend or with your honey. Just a few of my favorite flavors are Caramel Cashew, Mint Chip, Red Raspberry, Grasshopper Fudge, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, and Key Lime Pie. Whether you like sweet, salty, fruity or your just a vanilla or chocolate kinda guy/gal, they have everything in between. I'm hoping to make a trip home soon and you'd better believe Kopp's will be one of my number 1's!

Take a step back into the 1950's. No, really. OK, maybe it's the idealized 1950's you might experience while playing Destroy All Humans, but this place is a blast and the custard is seriously delicious. And unlike playing Destroy All Humans no one has to get anal probed for the experience. The building is round and made of brick and stainless steel. It's immaculately clean and so are the employees. (I can't believe I've never said 'the employees were immaculately clean' in a review before.) All the employees are dressed in white like 50's soda jerks and there's something fresh faced and pure about them. There's only a couple of featured flavors a day. That's it. They change every day. And yet the place is packed. Had a shake with the Mocha Chip. Really one of the best shakes I've ever had. Go to Kopps. Have the custard and walk around back to see the cow statues. One of them is different from the rest. Now that you been given a mystery you must go and find out how the cow is different. Enjoy the adventure!

The frozen custard was blow your mind good.
(5)Katie R.
i got a buffalo chicken sandwich and fries and was too full to get custard. SADDEST FACE. but it was tasty.
(4)Kim M.
Wow. This place is good. Not just good, CRAZY good. Buffalo chicken sandwich was really good. ALL the custard was fantastic. Vanilla and Chocolate are staples, but other flavors change daily, so if your heart is set on something, I would check online first, or keep a monthly menu you can pick up there that tells you when to expect what. Turtle sundae was to die for. Chicken buffalo sandwich was grilled spicy perfection. 100 reasons why you should by frozen Kopps custard, proudly displayed in the lobby, priceless. Not a whole lot of places to sit inside. With stuff this good, who cares! Definitely worth a trip, detour or whatever you need to do to GET HERE!
(5)Jimmy L.
Milwaukee's gold standard for burgers and Ice Cream Custard. Some flavors are getting too sweet. Like the basics myself.
(5)Kristi G.
I love Kopp's. Frozen custard is the best frozen treat you can eat, and Kopp's does it best (creamy and delicious with a variety of flavors). It's one of the places I miss most from Wisconsin. The servings are HUGE and the prices are very reasonable. Their burgers are also good (fries are ok), but the frozen custard is what makes Kopp's special.
(5)Ally P.
Been coming here since I was a kid along with its biggest competitions, Leons. I must say that Leons is cheaper, but Kopps is worth the extra money. Decent sized scoops and if you get a dish you get a delicious cookie/cracker. The custard is perfect; creamy, thick, full of flavor. The "flavors of the day" are worth trying out and have enjoyed most of them. I think there are only 3 out of the 20something I've tried that I didn't like. The "sundae of the month" is always over the top. Usually 3 scoops of ice cream and a whole lotta topings. First time I ordered one I chose the "regular" size. Boy that is fit for 2 possibly 3 people to share. So order the small if you're getting it for yourself. The food is pretty good too. Burgers are HUGE. I'm not a big burger person but I love getting their chicken LTM (lettuce, tomato, mayo) and that's just as big. The grilled cheese is the best I've ever had. Fries can be soggy and salty at times but I'm not big into fries much either. Only complaints I have is that I wish the parking lot was bigger. This place gets busy and it can be hard to find a spot/traffic can be backed up. And I wish they have places to sit besides outside because it can be crowded in the winter times inside.
(4)James P.
Was here 30 years ago (although it's newer and bigger - not sure if its the same place, but the location is about right), and it's still Tasty! I had a Cheeseburger with everything - it's still big (I think it use to be bigger?) and an Oreo Frozen Custard Cup (Yummy!) brought back a lot of great memories!!
(4)Jeffrey F.
Just plain good, wow
(5)Victor M.
Friend: "Hey, I'll pay for your custard if you eat 6 scoops and you have to finish it here." Me: "Fine" -Facing Cashier Me: "I would like 6 scoops of Trois Chocolat" Cashier: "Seriously?" Me: "He said he's buying. so yes" Cashier: "Waffle Cone, Cake Cone, or Bowl?" Me: "Waffle" -Cashier hands me ~4lbs of custard on a waffle cone Cashier: "Here's a bowl, hurry and take a picture before it falls." Me: "okay I got this" -5mins pass and 3 scoops remain. Friend: "You don't have to finish it." Me: "I'm almost done." -2mins pass and 1 scoop remain. Friend: "You can stop, I was just kidding." Me: "It's about the principle." -Custard is done. Me: "This was pretty good, I don't think I'll be eating any custard for awhile."
(5)Ngan D.
Good, but it's kind of sweet (side note - in general, I find American desserts very sweet!). On a hot, humid day - it was yummy! I love the concept of Kopps - back to the future theme and the decor is nice - waterfall outside, and row of white cows with one black one - picturesque. I have not tried their hamburgers, but they smell good. Also - it was kind of cheap compared to Hagen Daz or Baskin Robbins. 3 scoops for less than $4.
(4)Terry B.
While I prefer the Port Washington Rd. location due it having taken my Kopp's virginity and oh the memories...this one is actually a tad bit better with more seating options outside and a wonderful waterfall. Nonetheless, the burgers are, as mentioned, sick. Who doesn't like a bit of butter on their burger the size of a basketball rim? The fresh ingredients, carmelized onions and cheese and the best onion rings anywhere. I tried to teach my wife "custard control" with her 2 scoop cone, but it was for naught. She dripped more than a prostitute who hasn't had her yearly screening in a decade. The custard as always is divine and fortunately on this day, (one of two spent back in Milwaukee) they had my favorite flavor: chocolate chip mint. Does life get any better? (probably could for the aforementioned prostitute, but for the rest of us, definitely not)
(5)Paul S.
Quite an interesting place. My custard cone was good and prices were very reasonable. It was a beautiful day and therefore eating in the outdoor garden area was very nice. I must say that this is one of them most unusual ice cream places that I have been. Next time I will try the burger and see how it stacks up against 5 guys.
(4)Jessica O.
Ambiance: Industrial minimalist. Steel everything countertops, appliances, shelves, etc. Very modern. Outside has a sunken deck with trees, plants and a waterfall. It's quite peaceful there in the summers. Beverages: They have coke products on tap as well as Sprecher Rootbeer, so you can have a rootbeer float if you so desire. I would also be remiss if I failed to mention their incredible shakes and malts in so many flavors it makes my head dizzy just thinking of it. Not to mention they always run a "shake of the month". My favorites are Vanilla Malt, Blue Moon Shake (SOM), Lime Shake and Marshmallow shake. They come regular or thick. The regular is already a brick house, but the thick is something to marvel at. In my most humble opinion Kopps has the best shakes and malts I've ever had. Perfect to dip your salty greasy French Fries in.... Food: As far as fast food burgers go, there is no comparison. Big, butter burgers made to order per your specifications. My order is always cheeseburger with raw onion, ketchup and Bleu Cheese sauce. I usually get fries to dip into my malt too. But let's discuss those butter burgers shall we? There are important points I need to make: *They have never, ever even once messed up my order. I don't know how on earth they manage to be perfect every stinkin' time, I'm sure it's a trade secret, I'm just happy they figured out how to do that voodoo magic. *I have never been able to finish an entire burger on my own. *The onion they give you is as big and thick as the burger itself. Thank you, Kopps, thank you for being generous with your onions. Lest I forget, their custard and sundaes can make your day better. They run a sundae of the month too. My two favorite custard flavors are Tiramisu and Rum and Coke. If you get them in a dish you get one of those lovely fragile French cookies. Kopps does not skimp on the toppings/fillings/flavorings in their custards. When you order a Cherry Amaretto Cheesecake, you get tons of chunks of cheesecake and a generous dose of amaretto ribbon. Ditto that for Tiramisu, lots of lady fingers and coffee flavoring. You won't go a mouthful with only plain custard, each bite is jam packed. Fries-Good, Grilled Cheese - Good, Onion Rings - Good. Let's make this easy, everything- GOOD. Staff: Friendly and efficient. Even the teenagers who work there are polite. Pointers: Kopps doesn't really have seating options. They have some small pub tables sans chairs inside the building and concrete benches in their sunken deck. If there is one negative it's that the benches are not very comfortable to sit on. I definitely get the feeling they don't want people loitering. The other thing you can take advantage of, especially if your out of state is their "Custom 10 Pack" where you can pick 10 flavors for the pack depending on what ship date you like. It makes a great, unique gift that showcases Wisconsin's awesomeness!

So, I've been living in NYC for the past 6 years. Shake Shack's burgers are good, but I haven't really enjoyed their custards that much. I go visit my In Laws probably twice a year, and I have to stop here always. The burger here is good, but it's not great. What's great here is the Fish sandwich. I don't get the cheese b/c it's too rich, but the tarter sauce and extra pickles with the hot steamy filet-o-fish, and I go back to get a 2nd giant one every single time. When it's hot and steamy like it usually is, it is to die for. To top it off, the custard is good value and very tasty. Last week's visit coincided with Butter Brickle. It was quite good, but not as good as my favorite flavor: Butter Pecan. It is amazing. See you again on my next visit Kopps!
(5)Sid V.
The best frozen custard anywhere, with the most creative flavors. Gets packed but runs like a well-oiled machine. The burgers are excellent too-overall it's a Milwaukee institution for good reason. Also check out the fish sandwich, it rocks.
(5)Gina B.
It is great! Good fast food and Excellent custard creations. A must if you live in Milwaukee or nearby. My suggestion for Kopps - get a drive thru set up and it would be even better!!!
(5)Darleen V.
I dreamed of Kopps when I moved away. I dream of Kopps more now that I live five minutes away. Bacon cheeseburgers, French fries, onion rings- oh my! Seriously though, hard to save room for custard if you've washed that all down with a Sprecher root beer. But save room for custard, or just take some home. Great variety of daily flavors keep me coming back, embarrassed to say- almost daily. I have to send my husband sometimes so I don't overdose on cheeseburgers....
(5)Jeff S.
We went for the custard and kept coming back for the burgers. My wife and I spent three months in Wisconsin on her nursing contract in Racine, and we drove to Milwaukee FAR too often just for Kopp's burgers. They are as big as your head! You should have seen the look on my wife's face the first time she realized how much onion they put on your burger if you request them. In case you're wondering, IT'S A LOT. About half an onion. I guess that could be good or bad depending on if you like them or not. We usually picked a few off. I don't really know what else there is to say except you need to go here and order the burgers. I got custard from here three times and two of the three were just "meh." But the burgers... THE BURGERS...
(5)Barbara D.
I would give 4 stars but server a lil cranky & sloppy in that he handed me a cone with custard dripping down side even onto the protective paper covering bottom of cone. When I walked in I saw sign saying flavor of day. Didn't care for top two items but as I scanned down saw butter pecan. Before I had time to read more the server asked what I wanted. I was not standing at counter but back several steps. Not sure if he's super efficient or just wanted me out of there. So I quickly saw waffle cones & regular cones and 1-3 scoops. Ordered two scoops pecan on waffle cone. "We don't have pecan today", he snipped. But---- I pointed to sign. The 3rd line said predictions & pecan was under there for another day. So I ordered chocolate. Ate the cone inside cuz it'd be soup outside in seconds. U get a huge serving. If I go again will order single scoop. Custard was rich and creamy. Cone crisp and fresh tasting. Perfect way to spend a hot afternoon.
(4)Eric P.
The atmosphere here is good. The outside seating is pretty cool with a waterfall wall. The benches are concrete and not very comfortable to sit on. The custard is very tasty. Not all of the flavors of the day are all that great, but I suppose it's all up to personal preference. The staff look mostly like high school students on weeknights. Service is fine. And they all wear white and old style hats.
(3)Jacob J.
Your in Milwaukee and wondering what you've GOT to do. You have GOT to get your butt to anyone of their many locations and have custard. If you are lactose intolerant, than you need to pop a lactaid and have custard and a cheeseburger. Cuz Lactaid is expensive and you may as well relish in the moment. Is frozen custard better than ice cream? That's a good question you must ponder while enjoying some. If it's summer there will be a wait and that wait is well worth the time.
(5)Valerie V.
Custard was phenomenal. The staple flavors, Swiss chocolate and vanilla are great but I suggest trying one of the flavors of the day.
(5)Jen Y.
My vote for favorite custard in the city (we have so many places to choose from) is definately Kopp's! I especially love the sundaes if the flavor of the day doesn't work for me. Kopp's has always been a family desination growing up, I fondly remeber our family trips there and I even ate my last meal w/meat in in 20 years ago... it was a Kopp's burger! Last summer my sister is the one that brought me to this revelation of my love of Kopp's. It was during a little family motorcycle ride on a hot summer night.... My parents drove up next to me and asked if we wanted to pull into an upcoming competiting custard stand so I sped up to catch up to my husband who had my sister on the back of his bike and I yelled, "hey, dad wants to know if we want to go to ****'* for some custard?" and my sister shouted back immediately "not really because I really prefer Kopp's!". I laughed but agreed and settled for the other place on our route as Kopp's would have been out of the way but the entire time I was wishing I was at Kopp's enjoying their creamy goodness of a custard like my sister expressed!
(5)Kyle H.
Kopp's is King in Milwaukee for custard and their burgers are huge and outstanding as well. The place is ultra clean for starters and the old fashioned soda fountain white caps and aprons lends the super polite and helpful young staff the air of a bygone era. The custard is awesome, go for the Flavor of the Day (check the three-day forecast) or go for Vanilla in a Waffle Cone! Sundaes, malts and all that good fountain stuff is here as well. Their burgers are huge and you have to tell them what you want on them when you order, and remember the mustard is the brown spicy kind, and onions are grilled unless you specify raw (as I do!). They give you a number then call your number from a microphone under a color (green, red, blue, yellow). Listen for your number! Onion rings are superb, top your order off with a Sprecher Root Beer while you're at it. The outside seating with a waterfall and pine trees is great in the summer. Seating inside is not available at this location, save for maybe 2 high tops if you want to stand. Mmmm....pick up on Green, Kopps!
(5)Katherine L.
The most delicious frozen custard that I've ever had. I had the chocolate and the single scoop is huge.
(5)Craig M.
Since the closing of Al's 20 years ago, this has been my family's choice for Sunday night custard. You can't go wrong. For those of you on the north side, they do have a second location on Port Washington Rd. There is also a third location on Bluemound road in Brookfield.
(5)Brad E.
The custard is really, up there as among the very best, duh! The food is really good, I like the grilled cheese, and the burgers and fries are delicious. The onion rings are very tasty, and they go great, paired with a double dip cone. I wish there was better seating. It is primarily bench seating with no tables. Well, if you want a table they have tall ones that you can stand in front of. The place is hopping year-round, so I guess the food makes up for the lack of comfortable seating.
(4)Tom H.
When life's got you down and you are in need of a nice juicy, greasy, "Wisconsin huge" cheeseburger...this is the place. Then, if that demi-god of a burger did not quench your hunger... try their famous frozen custard, any flavor will do
(5)Tak K.
The fact that this place is loved by so many people attests that how cool this place is. Yeah, the frozen custard was very good. It's basically the mix in taste of frozen yogurt and ice cream, but still have a distinctive taste. The special of the day we went there were chocolate and raspberry, and that combination was really good. But what stood out to me was how this place would resemble a old creamery. The interior was pristine, and cashiers were friendly. This place has two today's special, and it actually differs everyday, not like every Monday or sorts. They also have a monthly special menu which I'm sure local would bring it home to decide which date(s) to go. There was even a sign that mentioned 100 reasons to buy gift cards, and I thought many of them were cute. Too bad that, even if they ship to sell, the minimum quantity is 10 pint for $75 or sorts. And the shipping would cost about the same! Oh well, it should be treated not as a negative, but as a reason people should visit this place when they are in Milwaukee.
(4)Gregory B.
Kopps has better flavors than Leon's by a nose, but the actual custard consistency is just slightly better there. This is real. And I like the location--the waterfall and courtyard--a fun place to go. When do we get custard in Chicago? No, don't even mention Culver's.
(5)J G.
A Milwaukee classic. Can't beat it on a hot summer night.
(5)Karl H.
5 stars seems a bit off for me. This is good custard, nothing spectacular nothing worth raving about and definitely nothing to go far out of the way to try. It's cheap and is incredibly rich which by default doesn't make something amazing for me. I guess I'm more perplexed than anything that this place has such stellar reviews. Are there no other good ice cream shops in this city?
(3)Natasha M.
In Milwaukee and crave a burger - this is where I end up! Low prices and delicious food.
(4)Jeff K.
Being an out of towner, I always look for places that make the city unique. Kopp's is definitely one of those places. Very cool nostalgic feel, tasty burgers and awesome custard. Seating: Although they do have some standing tables inside, you'll probably want to eat outside in their courtyard down by the waterfall fountain. Food: I ordered the double burger (fyi-the double is huge) with fries and onion rings. The portions are fairly large and will most likely satisfy most customers. The thing that makes this place shine, however, is the custard (w/waffle cone). Rotating new flavors every day, along with the original vanilla and chocolate flavors make Kopp's a place you could visit over and over again.
(5)Amy B.
Let me start by saying there is absolutely nothing wrong with Kopp's, I just feel that there are far better custard places to check out... Kopp's is a Milwaukee custard place that also has great food. Nice outdoor seating area which is good since there's nowhere to sit inside. Burgers with grilled onions are top notch. Their custard is good, don't get me wrong. I'm a particular fan of their waffle cones and the little wafer cookies you get when you order a dish instead of a cone. But their actual custard is just okay. It seems a little icier than other custard I'm used to, and therefore less creamy. Go for the burgers, and get custard as dessert. Just know you can get better custard elsewhere in Milwaukee...
(4)Little M.
I dream of raspberry custard. This place just gets better. The flavors are amazing and change daily. During my last visit I went every day. Do not pass up a chance to have the best ice cream in the nation.
(5)Dani K.
Well, you see the rating this place has. Great prices, great tasting food for both desserts and meals, amazing outdoor seating (and I mean amazing), and the location by the restaurants and mall is ideal. If you haven't tried this place, come to at least give it a try. You'll most likely be back.
(5)Logan S.
Although I prefer the place on Bluemound, this place is closer - just off of 894. This is as god as it gets. I know gas is $5 a gallon. But people from Chicago, do yourself a favor check out the flavor list, pick a day and pack a cooler. Put 3 hours a side and drive here. If you see a flavor several days before you get there, call they will pack some away. When you get there, grab some lunch (great burgers and rings) then grab some custard. Pack the cooler with as much as you can, remember gas is $5 a gallon. Some personal favorites... Strawberry Red raspberry Peach Grasshopper Fudge This stuff is so creamy-velvet with fresh ingredients it should be illegal. Thank goodness they are not closer, I would be obese.
(5)Julie M.
I cannot say enough WONDERFUL things! I love Kopp's! Their custard is the BEST EVER and all of their food is great! Try Tiramisu, Chocolate Peanut Butter Chocolate or Red/Black Raspberry flavors when they have them!
(5)Nick F.
I've been coming here as a kid. The burgers are huge and very good. Awesome atmosphere, very fast and friendly service. Only 4 stars though because another establishment has the best custard on the planet ;)
(4)Ron T.
A devotee of Kopps for so many years I brought my future Fiancee to Milwaukee to enjoy Summerfest as well as cuisine extraordinaire. Of course Kopps was our first stop in town. We now have a confirmed Kopps Custard lover convert. She was overwhelmed with the delight. Now she is as addicted as I, so an everyday stop while we are visiting and upon our return visits the struggle will continue.
(5)Ivy t.
Just found this place as a yelp review for frozen custard and boy it was delicious! Had the Swiss chocolate in a waffle cone. It was smooth but not as heavy as ice cream is. Highly recommend
(5)Gelene V.
Went here on our drive from Chicago to Milwaukee last month. We were only interested in trying the frozen custard, so we skipped the "Grill" line and went straight to the "Fountain" line. Since it was our first time there, my sister and I ordered the Vanilla and my mom decided to try the Mint Chip. The consistency of the custard is pretty thick, but smooth, and the flavors are extremely rich (in a good way). It's probably one of those things I can eat in small proportions (2 scoops max), or else I'm going to hate myself and feel like I'm going to vomit due to richness overload. ... however, I did see a kid get 6 scoops on a Waffle Cone, which was dripping EVERYWHERE. Definitely gave him some kudos for attempting to finishing it while I fought my urge to run over with napkins..... Hey, to each their own! Other notes: Parking: pretty good, there's a lot you can park in Seating: lots of outdoor seating, but indoor seating is limited Lines: SUPER long on the "Grill" side, but fast on the "Fountain" side
(4)Kyle K.
I have this personality flaw that makes me dislike something just because everyone else can't seem to shut up about how awesome it is. It is for this reason that, even though I grew up in Greenfield, I have probably only eaten at Kopp's a handful of times. Running errands in the area (more like a man date) with a childhood friend, we both wanted burgers. He, being of more sound mind than I, quite rightly insisted that we go to Kopp's. Double Cheeseburger, fries and root beer city. The burgers are HUGE and wonderfully messy. To quote my friend: "Kyle, you are making a big stupid mess of yourself with that thing.". Fact. The State of Wisconsin is going to deport me for saying this, but I'm not a fan of frozen custard. The custard here is universally approved of, so try it. Aside from the food, the grounds are pretty cool. The building and courtyard resemble a prison with a giant, jagged hole blown through one wall. There is a separate court that has a bunch of logs stacked up, which is probably fun for kids to break their necks on. My only complaint about Kopp's would be that when I am inflicting enormous beef and cheese punishment on myself, it would probably be nice to be able to sit down somewhere so I can avoid wearing half of my lunch. Just sayin.
(4)Jennifer C.
Was in town yesterday with my hubby and we stopped by. I had the Peach Melba which was so amazing!! My hubby had the Reese's Peanut Butter Kupps which he enjoyed as well. I love this place.
(5)Bonnie H.
OH MY WORD, have you ever even seen a place that has gotten all 5 star reviews (80 of them) I have only ever gotten the custard here, this would be one thing I would request as a last meal. Cold, Creamy, Rich the little cookie they give you on the side. I could cry tears that I cannot have this wonderful treat and there is no telling when Ill ever be able to again!! I haven't had custard in ten years, I don't think they have it in the south. If anyone knows otherwise or something that comes close please send me a message.
(5)Sherwin C.
Even though it's not very comfortable inside and they have a very limited number of flavors.... WOW... this custard is really smooth and the flavor is very well balanced. Mix that in with fresh ingredients such as nuts or fruit and you will understand why Kopp's has held their custard supremacy for so long. Gilles does have very nice vanilla as well but the flavors of the day here are crazy good.
(5)Linna C.
YES!! It is that good!!! I am not shocked to find that I am simply another fan that can't wait to rave about this place because it is better than any burger joint in LA and puts Ben and Jerry's to shame!! Kopps serves your necessities: burgers, fries, onion rings, malt shakes and custard. Everything is made to order. Burgers are seriously the size of my face, but despite its size, the trimmings are awesome!! Esp the grilled onions. Every onion ring was cripsy and fried to perfection. Now the custard, what can I say at $2 a scoop, I felt like I was getting double what I paid for. The creamy rich texture is to die for!!! They should seriously consider opening a chain in LA!
(5)Jessica M.
So. Much. Win. If you are in the MKE area, it is a must. The building has a weird and cool exterior as well as a little outside area with benches and trees to enjoy your delicious custard. The custard is perfect. Huge portions if you feel like sharing... or being gluttonous... Try it on a waffle cone- best diabetic coma ever. #1 flavor: strawberry #2: snow drift (only comes in second because you can't rely on it- it's seasonal for the winter only)
(5)Matt U.
Great custard made even better with fries! Very reminiscent of Dick's burgers and fries in Seattle! Only thing that would make it better is if they had more than a few flavors available.
(5)Curtis S.
My recommendation to all Kopp's lovers. NEVER buy a house near this establishment. This is the reason I may need to go on cholesterol meds. 1st of all, for you chocolate fans, a must is "Never enough chocolate" which will be the flavor of the day very soon. As far as custard is concerned, it is orgasmic. Other then that, I switch off between there awesome burgers and excellent chicken sandwiches. Both which are big enough to feed you for lunch and diner. And while you eat that, don't forget there great onion rings. And of course to wash everything down, you need to have a Sprecher root beer. (Damn, I'm getting hungry writing this). My wife always gets the grilled cheese which she swears they infuse crack into the cheese. It's all just fatty goodness. A few other recommendation for custard are Tiramisu, Carmel cashew and red raspberry.
(5)Brandon B.
So I live in southern California grew up out in Wisconsin and just flew in to see family but first stop is Kopps before anything. Best food no matter what you get and the best flavors of custard in the world it is #1 all time
(5)Ryan H.
Here is how it works: 1. Order anything, and be sure to get extra napkins before you start eating. It will be messy. This will be the juiciest, tastiest burger that you have ever had. 2. Don't leave without trying the custard. There are flavors that they always have readily available (e.g. vanilla) and other flavors that they will only have on that day. There is a schedule with flavors, a 800-number hot-line that you can call to find out what the flavor will be, and even email notifications that you can sign up for to tell you when you when your favorite flavor will be available. You can even have them pack you a pint to go. The only problem is that they are only in the Milwaukee area! Lucky dogs.
(5)Jessica G.
I didn't have any custard at Kopps. We spent the whole day eating garbage and Kopps was our last stop. I did have a grilled cheese sandwich and it was pretty darn good. It's a fairly sterile atmosphere and there's nowhere within the restaurant to sit to eat your meal. There is a little garden out in front with a water feature and some interesting mood lighting along with benches and you can sit there and eat. Parking is a little tight though there is a pretty big lot and at 7 on a Saturday, it was extremely crowded. They seem organized and quick, though, so no complaints there. Pretty solid for the food, if not the custard.
(4)Paul A.
I don't get it. My sister and brother-in-law said you MUST stop at Kopps when visiting Milwaukee. And, the critic and user reviews couldn't say enough good things. It is actually very, very good, but not outstanding. I had one scoop of vanilla and one scoop of their flavor of the day, caramel cashew. Very good, but not anything to write home about.

I have been coming to this Kopps location ever since I can remember. For some reason, as a kid, I had this thing about feeding my stuffed animals everything that I ate. Maybe that was the start of my need to please people or I just wanted to share my delicious chocolate frozen custard with my favorite Papa Smurf doll. It was just too good to keep to myself, and my Papa Smurf still has a chocolate stain in his beard! So, this past weekend my mom and I did our usual trip to the Red Lobster (her favorite), went to a really cool apple orchard up the street, and even though we were stuffed from cheddar garlic biscuits, shrimp and apples, the big sign was flashing....TODAYS FLAVOR...CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE DOUGH! Omfg! My favorite! So, the big handicapped van that carries my moms Lil Rascal squeals in. I took my first lick and was immediately reminded of how amazingly good this custard is. Nothing else compares and the fact that they use regular sized chocolate chips in their cookie dough custard just made it all the better. Kopps is clearly the best place for custard and worth your stop next time you are visiting the great state of WI!

OK, So I am sure my review isn't ground breaking. The burgers are excellent, the custard.. excellenter.. yea I know that's not a word, shut up. Point is, this place rocks. Go there, you will be returning again and again. Oh and also, if you go in the summer, eat outside, they even have a massive waterfall. Helpful tip: Get both a burger AND your choice of custard. I always get the custard in a dish cause then you get that triangle cracker thing with it.
(5)Amy G.
This custard was a little too heavy for me. I wanted to try it since I'm in Milwaukee, but I don't think I have to go back.
(3)amanda B.
So for all you in and out burger fans this place will knock your socks off! way better, actually not even comparable. Delicious burgers with all the fixings just how I like it. always hot and fresh. ...and then there's the frozen custard yum yum yum while most people think frozen custard, how different could it be from all the other frozen custard places around? well it just is, the texture is fantastic and it's always served at the right temp and the flavors are perfect! next best thing to making at home and probably better than a lot of people make at home perfect for any occasion would recommend to everyone.
(5)Jesse S.
This is the only place in the world where I get my burgers with cheese and ketchup only. There is so much flavor in the cheese and the burger itself that the extra toppings on the burger just don't need to be there. I love how there are around 30 or more people working there on any given Friday or Saturday night..seriously, it's odd. But, they are just being cocky, I guess, because they know that they are going to sell like 20 billion delicious burgers and shakes every night. Go check it out...there's a reason why people go back again and again and again and again and again and again and again.

Okay, so, ALL Kopp's locations have the same fabulous custard, but their burgers are NOT CONSISTENT from location to location. This location has the BEST burgers and toppings of the three Milwaukee area locations! I grew up in Milwaukee, but we always frequented a frozen custard & burger stand that has been closed for ages now (Sweets on 76th Street near Mill Road). We were never big Kopp's people because it was so far away for us. Then I lived out of state for about seven and a half years. Kopp's wasn't one of the things I missed, but now I can't imagine life without my weekly cheeseburger and frozen custard... Now when I moved back to Milwaukee last year, it took a while for my body to readjust to the Wisconsin diet (lots of fatty meats and rich cheeses). ***So it might be good for out-of-towners to know*** that Kopp's burgers are the REAL DEAL. You get fresh, quality beef, high-quality American cheese, locally produced THICK slabs of bacon, onions fried in gobs of butter, etc. Please don't be obnoxious and hold up the line while you ask the girl behind the counter about calories and fat content. There is no way to make a Kopp's burger "low fat" so just indulge and enjoy it. (Just keep in mind though, they're big, and if you're not that hungry, a plain ol' hamburger with ketchup will likely fill you up.) (To the reviewer who said Culver's has better food... YOU MUST be on crack!!) Kopp's also has delicious home made fries and they give you a ton of 'em. If you and your date are each getting a burger, you can easily split an order of fries, especially if you're trying to save room for dessert. As for the custard, what can I say? It's phenomenal. GET IT. If the flavors of the day compliment each other, definitely get a scoop of each. (Red raspberry goes perfectly with a scoop of chocolate.) Many of their flavors also make excellent milkshakes. When they are doing tiramisu I ALWAYS get a tiramisu shake!!
(5)Jacquee P.
TIRAMISU. There is no other flavor.
(5)John W.
Kopp's is an institution of the frozen treat industry. I mean, frozen custard is the best form of "ice cream," but then, I hesitate to even equate the term "ice cream" frozen custard. Its just soo much denser and creamier than any other thing in the world! They always have vanilla and chocolate (which is a darker chocolate) plus a flavor of the day. One of my favorites is Bienenstichkuchen which is served in the summer during Germanfest. They also have good burgers and such!! May I also say that one of my favorite things to do is order excessive amounts of there little fin wafers that they put in the custard. They are soo flaky and yummerz, so I will make "chips and dip." This is where the custard is the dip, and the cookies are the chips! Try it!!
(5)Olivia M.
Best frozen custard I've ever had. The custard is the perfect, smooth texture that one expects from frozen custard. I ordered chocolate almond custard and they did not skimp on the almonds. I also got the root beer they sell there and it was ALMOST as good as Barq's (my favorite). I did not try the food here, but I have heard that it is not as good as Culver's food. However, I would definitely say that the custard is better here than Culver's.
(5)Denise M.
Absolutely fantastic! Loved every bite. GO!
(5)Michelle M.
Came here on Labor day evening. This place was packed with people waiting for their food and eating in the outdoor courtyard with a wall waterfall. So fancy. I was quite excited to try this frozen custard, because well...good food makes me happy. I ordered a single burger with "the works" fixings, fries, and a chocolate shake. The burger was a 3 stars in my book. The large bread overshadowed the thin meat, which made me wish I ordered more fillings or another patty to go in it. The fries looked like they were freshly cut and fried - A+ says my taste buds. The chocolate shake was a little too sweet for me, but yet good. I also tried the Magic Monday custard which was birthday cake mixed with vanilla custard. Not bad. For the size of the restaurant, I would expect a seating area especially when you're waiting 10 min for your food to be ready. There are a few small standing tables and benches inside. The long counter to order food is a little ridiculous. Outdoor area has all benches - no tables. I can't imagine coming to this place in the winter time unless you get your food to-go. Next time I will try the onion rings and of course the custard if I ever decide to adventure up into Milwaukee again.
(4)Erin B.
Ok...so there are several Kopp's locations but this is the one my parents took me to as a kid and still my favorite location today despite the lack of indoor seating. I remember begging my mom and dad to stop here whenever we were in the area. This is a very unassuming place and if you didn't know better and were not from around here, you would probably not think to stop in. And you would be an idiot, because this is the best custard on the planet. Trust. So occasionally they have a really weird flavor of the day and it kind of makes you go "huh...I didn't think bananas cheesecake lime java would be good" but then you taste it and realize these custard people are gods among men. For the most part, though, everything is relatively normal and utterly fantastic. Their butter pecan is literally the one of the best things I've ever tasted. The only drawback is that there is no indoor seating which is kind of a bummer in Wisconsin winters, but once you've tried this, you'd gladly stand outside in a blizzard just to have it again.
(5)Chris G.
Love Kopp's. Best burgers around anywhere. People from Racine will tell you Kewpies' are better, and they're good--but nothing tops Kopp's. Took my future wife on our first date for a Kopp's burger and some frozen custard, that's how highly I think of the place. I'm a vegetarian now, but I'll cheat for Kopp's.
(5)Kimberly J.
i used to come to kopps as a teenager way back in the 80's. simply put. i love this place... it's the best frozen custard ive ever had... and mouth watering burgers. YUM..... super kid friendly and great outdoor seating in the summer..
(5)Ngoc P.
Great price, great atmosphere, delicious burger, and they're HUGE!
(5)Raquel D.
Can never get tired of the frozen custard at Kopp's! Even their regular vanilla flavored custard (which I'd avoid getting at other places because it's boring IMO) tastes so wonderful! Another regular on their menu which I'm a big fan of is the Kopp's Special sundae.. it's pretty huge and can be shared...a wee bit! :)
(5)Hayley H.
KOPPS is an institution in Milwaukee. If your looking for stupid good custard, this is the only place to go. The interior is cool...all steel. I maybe go to Kopps every 5 years and I still look at their "Flavor Forecast" periodically. Now that's saying something.
(5)John M.
am obsessed with kopps custard! Whenever I am visiting Milwaukee I have to make a stop off and grab a cup of whatever the flavor of the day is. I have tried their burger and chicken sandwich both of which are awesome not to mention huge. There is something classic about this place that I love and it will always be on my travel itinerary when I am heading up to Milwaukee.
(5)Alison M.
I love Kopp's-- it's like a post-apocalyptic world of custard. The outdoor area is kind of futuristic looking, but the inside is a 1950's malt shop. They have huge and delicious burgers, but, c'mon you're not here for the burgers. You're here for the custard. They have traditional flavors of vanilla and chocolate every day, but the real draw is the special flavors of the day, which are their version of Blizzards. Well, except that they're the most exceptional flavors of Blizzards you have ever heard of--"Pancakes and Syrup," "Tiramisu,"and "German Apple Struesel," just to name a few. Take that Dairy Queen!
(5)Mike O.
Reese's Peanut Butter Kupps is an edible form of crack cocaine. What else can I say?
(5)Amanda D.
I have been going here since I was 5. Hands down the best burger and custard. In the world. If you do not believe me...go fart in a shoebox and die in it. I have been everywhere across the U.S....Even In-n-Out cannot hold a candle to this place. No one can. I LOVE YOU KOPPS, IF YOU EVER SHUT DOWN IT MEANS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END.
(5)K. M.
Try the grilled cheese WITH fried onions. It's delicious that way (much better than the plain grilled cheese). The custard is of course the real star. Some of their flavors of the day are really creative and delicious. I love the thick hot fudge they use. Definitely a classic WI destination!
(4)Jan S.
Four of us went to Kopps on a hot day hoping to escape from the heat and sit down for a meal; WRONG!! There is no seating to speak of, just a few benches, and tall round table to stand at; the double patty burgers had so much grease, we needed lots of napkins to soak it up; I had the single burger and it was fine/tasty; our friends were so disgusted they didn't want to stay and try some custard; we will not go there again for several reasons; at least have a place to sit!!
(2)Phil S.
My god do I love it here. Here over five guys ANY day of the week. Burgers are hot, fresh, and juicy. The cheese is always melted just right. I've found myself here many a night in all the seasons, specifically summer, too many times. Very quick, has the fast food feel but not taste. I'm not a huge huge fan of custard I more prefer ice cream or sorbet however you really can't go wrong with the custard here
(5)Chris C.
Their frozen custard is sooooooo good. I highly recommend over Culvers!
(5)Justin E.
Food was fresh, hot, and exceptional as always. Always made to order with the freshest ingredients. I always manage to spend like $12 on just my meal. One of my favorite places to eat.
(5)Mr M.
If a kid from Milwaukee doesn't give this 5 stars, he should have his head examined.
(5)Katie D.
This place has the best custard I have ever had. Period. I take every guest who visits and they agree--excellent, smooth, and creamy. I also enjoy their burgers and chicken sandwiches. I have never had a bad experience!
(5)Laura O.
Unbelievable frozen custard, worth a trip to Milwaukee for. I dream about Kopps. Oh, the burgers, onion rings and of course the super-delicious frozen custard, with a new flavor every day. It just doesn't get any better than this.
(5)Leah L.
I used to love this place.....until I found 3 hairs in my onion rings the same day my friend told me she had hair in her custard! Disappointing, since rum and coke was my favorite flavor there!
(2)Chrissy D.
This was the sight of my first wow I'm definitely in the Midwest moment. Why? Because I experienced price shock in a good way for the first time in my life! I was here over a year ago but I recall paying under $10 for a huge frozen custard sundae (whip cream, fudge etc.), hamburger, fries & a huge ass cup of milk. I had high expectations for the frozen custard and it lived up to them! For any New Yorkers that are reading this I came home and told my friends that Kopp's was Shake Shack on crack. It was that good!!!
(5)Dave S.
Frozen Custard is a highly emotional issue in Milwaukee. The choice of your preferered custard stand is a very personal consideration. Some people go for the ambience, energy and straight-forward, no-nonsense menu and flavor varieties of Leon's. Others go for the more adventurous, avant garde Kopp's. Others still cling to their neighborhood custard stands, like Gille's, Roberts, or Kitts. I used to work at Kopp's years and years ago. So I know firsthand the TLC that goes into every single batch of custard churned out by Karl Kopp and company. This place does not skimp on quality. Those custard machines are more finnicky that you could imagine. Each machine has its own personality; you have to constantly caress and cajole each machine, making miniscule adjustments, so that every single scoop turns out just the right consistency. It's a tough job, and I'm man enough to admit I couldn't hack it. My stint as Custardmeister was short lived, but it taught me some valuable lessons in patience and integrity. The custard. Smooth, rich and creamy. Don't you DARE call this ice cream. Ice cream is made in huge industrial sized plants. Notice you don't see too much frozen custard in the grocery store. That's because frozen custard, unlike ice cream, is best made by the batch, not the ton. The men and women who make custard are artists. Kopp's understands this. The flavors of the day at Kopp's push the envelope. Karl and company are always innovating. New flavors, new sundaes. You could go once a week for years and always see something new every time you go. The Kopp's that I worked at was next door to several business hotels. So at least once a week some businessperson from the East or West Coast would get all excited after trying frozen custard, and start inquiring about how much the machines cost, what the ingredients were, whatever. But what they didn't understand is that custard is a Wisconsin thing. It's a Milwaukee thing. Custard is a richer, fattier, higher in cholesterol version of ice cream. It's not going to catch on in LA. The burgers. This is where I take a point off. Back in my custard making days, I ate one of these fat burgers every single day. I got sick of them real quick. I stop into Kopp's about twice a year to have one of those burgers. About an hour after consumption, I'm reminded why I only have one every six months or so. These things are huge, greasy, sloppy, and incredibly delicious. But they will bust your gut. So, in sum, Kopp's is highly recommended, especially if you're new to frozen custard. If you're not into hefty, greasy, saltly mounds of beef, then stay away from the burgers.
(4)Jeff A.
THIS IS A 10 STAR RATING!!! 3 Words, SNICKERS CHUNKY CHEESECAKE, nuff said. There are absolutely no words that can truly express how awesome Kopp's is, but I'll give it a try. It just amazes how so few people on this planet understand the true meaning of greatness. Haagen Daaz...bleh. Gelato...bleh. Frozen Custard, now that's where it's at, OH HELLS YEAH! Every day here is Christmas, with a new toy (Daily Custard Flavors). Their burgers, GINORMOUS. But that's just a compliment to the main attraction. The world NEEDS to know how awesome custard is, especially since it's still limited to primarily the midwest. Kopp's are the experts with this stuff and I only pray that they'll one day franchise this place and give me the opportunity to have this daily before I die. Highly doubt it'll every happen, but a boy's gotta dream. Spread the word so that more can enjoy this oh so creamy spoonful of heaven.
(5)laura w.
Great service and great food! Just wish they had more indoor seating!
(5)L T.
I think I picked the wrong flavor :) pretzels and beer (root beer) - I'm more of a traditionalist, so I should have picked chocolate! Next time... Husband loved his cheeseburger... I love that it was like a spaceship inside (or maybe that was just me!) - not what I was expecting from the exterior. I picture the outdoor courtyard filled with happy custard-eating folks in the summertime :)
(4)Tammy Q.
Best frozen custard establishment. Goodness gracious -- how I miss thee! I wish you had a home in Chicago -- that way, I can gain an unneeded 100 lbs! Custard is so fresh - and the flavors of the day are amazing. You must pick up the calendar for reference. I miss you Kopps and I can't wait to gain an extra pound or so when I see you again.
(5)Dee B.
My love of Kopps equals that of many of the other reviewers. This was the last place on my tour of great Milwaukee places during a weekend visit this summer. I really like this location with the sunken garden and waterfall -- you almost forget that you're right on an incredibly busy strip-mall filled street.
(5)Paul S.
This review comes hot on the heels of reviewing Scooters in Chicago. But this is where I got my custard jones satisfied when I was a kid. The frozen treat is top notch. Do not pass this place up. The burgers are also HUGE and dripping with perfection. Love 'em. Miss 'em. If only there were a Kopps in Miller Park....
(5)Tim O.
I have been going to this place like religion since birth. Simply the best ice cream on the planet. The butter burgers are good as well.
(5)Rachel F.
YUM - I don't think there's much else that needs to be said about the chocolate custard.
(5)Stephen R.
Awesome food!!! Good service too! Ready to fix and go above and beyond if something is not right... My fries were too salty once and they gave me new ones no problem.
(5)blanca g.
Blew our little west coast minds! Flavors change daily and make me happy I don't live there because I would be there every day!
(5)Arin C.
Best custard and burgers I have ever had. I miss them terribly. Whenever I go home this is usually the first place I go to eat.
(5)Jim K.
For an outsider like me, Kopp's sums up what Milwaukee is all about - fat people and fattening food - and I love it. It's because of places like this that Wisconsin is America's fattest state, but no one seems to care because the burgers are superb and the frozen custard outstanding. First, the burgers are about as wide across as your face. Get the double cheeseburger and load it up with toppings (including bacon now!). So greasy and delicious. Second, try the frozen custard. For non-midwesterners, frozen custard appears to be just soft-serve ice cream. But it's not. It's much creamier and heavier - and MUCH better. Kopp's always has chocolate and vanilla and one or two different flavors each day - that's how fresh the stuff is. On my last visit I had chocolate chip cookie dough, which was divine. They sprinkled actual chocolate chips and pieces of cookie dough into the custard first, then scooped it out into my dish. Excellent. Enjoy your burger or custard outside in the courtyard with the waterfall. A weird setting, but peaceful and relaxing all the same. For any visit to Milwaukee, Kopp's is a must.
(5)Michelle T.
Let's just say I'm lactose intolerant but I couldn't care less if that meant I could eat the Boston cream pie frozen custard and gigantic cheeseburger (all at a decent price too!) again. And oh their fries were absolutely the bomb- not drenching in oil but somehow super crispy with a bite that is "just right". It makes me wish there was a dependable frozen custard place I could rely on- nothing can beat the creaminess that comes from Wisconsin cows. And that crispy/flaky triangle in the custard was a very nice added touch. This is my second time coming here (got the grasshopper fudge last time and that was also very delicious) and I'm waiting for another excuse to go back if only to get the custard.
(5)Alex C.
If this is your first time here DO NOT get the double cheeseburger. I eat a lot and trying to finish it was making me ill just because of how massive it was. Pricing is incredibly fair, burgers are some of the best I've had. Next time I'm in Wisconsin Im coming here again.
(5)Kim S.
This is a must for anyone living in or visiting Milwaukee. That's it. That's all I have to say. Go. Now.
(5)N L.
Kopps is a Milwaukee institution: big-juicy burgers, buttermilk custard, snappy-dressing staff and architecture/design worth looking at. There is nothing not to love about this place.
(5)Elle L.
Yum! This place rules! It is always packed in here, but they have a pretty good system worked out and I don't remember the wait being any longer than 5-10 minutes for my food. Last time I was here I got half a scoop of their flavor of the day, which was cherry, and half a scoop of chocolate custard and it honestly was the best ice cream I have ever had. In the summer there is lots of outdoor seating.
(4)Kim P.
Yes, the custard is very, very good. Yes, it's better than ice cream, and I also appreciate those little salted nuts in the turtle custard. But that is not important. Let's stick to the real issues. There is not a food item in existence that tastes better than a Kopp's cheeseburger with the works. Nothing else compares. Let me tell you what Kopp's has done for me. I'm the kind of girl who goes to Subway and orders a sub that only has turkey, bread, and a slice of cheese. I am definitely a cheese-mustard-ketchup person only when it comes to normal fast food hamburgers. I am a picky eater and I have a mortal fear of vegetables. Therefore, the fact that I would ever order something with "the works" is pretty significant. And even more significant, "the works" includes vegetables! Grilled onions, mustard, ketchup, cheese, pickles - all on a buttered and grilled bun. And the patty is large yet relatively thin. There is nothing better than a big, thin burger. Screw those nasty, paunchy, fat burgers that fill your mouth with beef and drown out those lovely condiments. In total seriousness, this is the best burger ever. Plus, ordering is efficent and you get it quickly - even when you're in a party of 35-40 people. The fact that our college swim team bus always stopped at Kopp's on the way home from Carroll College always took the sting out of losing yet another meet.
(5)Danvin R.
Okay honestly, frozen custard is pretty dang delicious. I came to visit Milwaukee for a friend's wedding and everyone I've talked to told me about the legendary frozen custard of Wisconsin, because, really, what else is there to do out here? I love this restaurant, futuristic on the outside, nostalgic on the inside. For $2 you can get a huuuugggeeee scoop of frozen custard on a cake cone. Yummmm... Haven't tried their food, but it sure did smell good.
(4)Kimberly F.
Ever had frozen custard? I hadn't until i came to Milwaukee. Kopps has actually been on Oprah (if you didn't know). Think of it as a smoother ice cream. Here at Kopps, they make the flavors right here, and the fun part about it is that they have a different flavor of the day each day! There is a menu they give out each month to tell you which flavors they will be serving on what days. When i was there, it made me want to go each day to try the new flavor! good thing i don't live there, i just might turn into a big fatty! You'll be surprised too at how many people still get frozen custard even when it is negative degrees outside and snowing.
(4)Jarred B.
Heard about Kopps from here on Yelp since I'm fairly new to town, and decided to stop over there last week Thursday. I didn't expect them to be so busy at 9 on a Thursday but after eating I can see why. I didn't get to try the custard, but the burgers and fries are awesome. Service was quick and easy. The outdoor seating was very cool and was perfect for the warm night. I am craving one right now. I will have to go back soon and try the custard, and have a burger also. Kopps is a destination anyone passing through Milwaukee needs to stop at night for a burger and custard ( the outdoor seating is so cool).
(5)TJ T.
Since I moved down to Missouri this is one of the restaurants I have missed the most. It is a curse that more states don't have custard all the time. Beyond on that where else can you order a great burger and then follow it up with rum and coke custard. If you are traveling through the area it is a must stop to understand Milwaukee. If you live in the area love it and order a peanut butter log for me.
(5)Eugene F.
"4 Asians walk into a frozen custard stand" ... my friend was working for Marquette University, and we decided to go out and visit the vast Milwaukee cuisine of everything dairy: cheese, cheese curds, fried cheese curds, and frozen custard! We drove a good twenty minutes to get to this place, and I WAS SO GLAD THAT WE DID! I can still see the custard being made and squirted out from an ice cream machine-type thing. I think that we went back two more times to experience Kapp's before we left for the bay area.
(5)David S.
Absolutely every time I'm in Milwaukee I have to make at least one stop at Kopp's. But don't go there just for the frozen custard, which is amazing, try one of their burgers too. In fact, if I didn't think they'd run me out on a rail for saying so, I might confess that I like the double cheeseburger and fries even better than the custard. It's hard to go wrong here no matter what you choose. You could probably just close your eyes and point and still be happy.
(5)K L.
OK, I went back to Kopp's for redemption and I got it. This time I went to the location on Port Washington instead of Layton. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I thought I would point this out in all fairness. Instead of just getting plain vanilla custard, I got the cookies and cream custard instead. It was very good. I think that will be my strategy from now on...to get the flavors of the day or to get toppings with my custard. Come to think of it, I had the cookies and cream custard with some fresh donuts from Sil's. Maybe that's why it was so good. Nevertheless, I'm a fan of Kopp's now.
(4)Billy A.
OMG is this good! I went for the custard but come back for the burgers. A must. A must must must. A trip to the Shack Shack in NYC prompted this review. I was a bit disppointed in the Shake Shack, and I was hoping it would be almost as good as Kopp's. It wasn't.
(5)Tony C.
converted one ice-cream lover to a Kopp lover this afternoon. Again. every time i force someone into the confines of MKE i bribe them with Kopp's. It's really the only reason to visit Milwaukee. It's certainly not for Mader's. The giant burgers are completely disgusting but who gives a hoot when you can drown your Kopp's with Sprecher's root beer? what an amazing combination? it's like pouring melted butter straight into your root beer. SICK! DELICIOUS!
(5)Joanna T.
I love custard but I'm really, really trying to eat heathy so my stops here are infrequent. Tonight was a rare treat - we stopped after dinner for dessert since we were near Southridge. This location might be the nicest in summer as the courtyard & fountains really add to the experience. On the minus side, it's always packed and the parking is jacked up. I personally like a Kopps burger from time to time but the star of the show is the custard. It's rich and creamy & the daily flavors are generally pretty creative. I'll be honest - I do like Leon's better for the "classic" flavors like vanilla & butter pecan. If you're a local, chances are both your cholesterol & blood sugar levels have had a nice boost from trips here. If you're from out of town, it's definitely a "must try". Unless you're lactose intolerant and even then, you might want to make an exception.
(4)Chris L.
Burgers are gigantic so how did I eat mine and my kid's? Because they are awesome. Fun experience for us and the kids although parking at this location is a nightmare and there is no seating and only a few makeshift places to try and eat your meal in the building (at least in the winter). Fix the parking nightmare and you've got something. Who am I kidding? You've still got something.
(4)Chris J.
Great food, great prices, best custard in Milwaukee and good burgers that'll fill you up pronto! Try the Double Cheeseburger if you haven't eaten in a week or something... or you won't likely finish it.
(5)MoMo J.
Oh Kopp's, how I love thee!! Ever since I moved to Atlanta no other custard joint compares. Tiramisu FTW!! You best believe I brought it on the airplane as a carry-on back to Atlanta! They let you bring dry ice on btw. This place is a must every time I come visit! And the burgers. Yumm...
(5)Sandor K.
Still my favorite spot for custard in the world! Its been a standard for a long time and continues to supply the best! Good Service, Great Custard - fantastic atmosphere - even at Milwaukee's 21 degree weather.
(5)Dustin T.
This place has the whole package. Delicious burgers with delicious custard. I am sure that this place is taking years off my life but it won't stop me. This specific Kopp's is a perfect spot for summer dates with its outdoor fountain seating area.
(5)Michael L.
Great burgers and amazing shakes. The building itself was whack, you would never think this is a restaurant. We entered and felt like we time warped into the past. However, while waiting for our food we noticed the atmosphere was now futuristic, nothing like we've seen before. One negative thing, there are only tables to stand at.
(5)Heidi B.
They're a bit expensive but worth every penny! Best burgers that I've had.
(5)Amanda Y.
Good custard and food. It is a little over priced. There usually is a long line. As far as custard goes I prefer Leon's. Food wise I like Kopp's. The southridge location is great but the parking lot is very tiny considering it shares a parking lot with the rest of the strip.
(4)Valerie J.
I'm not a huge fan of the food at Kopp's but, aye caramba!, you can't beat the custard! My personal favorite is chocolate custard with peanut butter and hot fudge - don't forget the cherry! My husband can be counted on to put away a turtle sundae! My son likes the ice cream, but has even more fun playing near the waterfall fountain and running around the courtyard on a sunny day. It goes without saying that you're going to wait in line, but things usually move pretty fast. Make sure to pay attention to the signs so you don't end up standing in line to order food, only to find you're in a custard-only line.

I've been to this Kopp's location quite a few times, and no I am not talking about the cops, but hey, they probably love this place too! These guys make killer frozen custard and I'm a big fan of their mint. No, I don't eat it often, but in moderation having a good waffle cone ever so often is a excellent treat. Now, my five star rating is only based off their waffle cones, shakes and custards. Everything else, I have no clue. The best things in life are made fresh and that is what Kopp's, I swear I saw some cows out back. The location is very convenient as well. It's right near the mall and other shopping centers.

If you stop in Milwaukee you have to stop here. By far the best burgers in town and amazing custard.
(5)Jason K.
The best. The standard by which all custard should be judged. The place we take any tourist or visitor. The blue ribbon winner. All in all, the BOMB. Best tasting custard in town. By far. This can be debated, but anytime we do the pepsi challenge with out of town visitors, they always choose Kopps as the best. The challengers are usually Kopps, Leons, Gilles. Some will throw in Georgie Porgie or some other random place. Besides the amazing vanilla and swiss chocolate, they have a flavor of the day. Best Cookies and Cream ever! Night Rider only comes around a few times a year, but it is the best flavor I've had. I try to make my own at Coldstone, but it doesnt come close. The sundaes are great, and the shakes/malts are heavenly. We haven't even started talking about the grill yet! The burgers are jumbo. The food is all fresh. The onion rings are delish. Try it out. You won't regret it.

My fiancé and her family is from Wisconsin and they always mentioned "I have to go to Kopps." The place had been built up so much that I thought it was bound to disappoint. But I was sooo wrong! The burgers here are some of the best around! They are huge! I got the double with works and added peppers. I meant to take picture but ended up eating it so fast I forgot! I love the flavor of day concept as well. Plenty of reasons to come back for more. Ps. Sundaes are big! I got small and was satisfied.
(5)Paul G.
This place is great! My friend took me here when I first came to Milwaukee and yummmmmmy. It's like 3$ for a single scoop and it can easier be shared with two people. I didn't get a chance to try their burgers but I heard they were also tasty. I had the rocky road marshmallow custard and it was delish! I tried the macadamia nut custard but it was a bit too buttery and rich for my likely. Go give this place a try if you haven't yet. I heard its crazy busy in the summer.
(4)Kathleen A.
This is the gold standard for custard. And their burgers ain't too bad neither! Every time we come up from Chicago, we get the pints of the day and a double cheeseburger. Someone said its a "sloppin' mess". I wouldn't it have it any other way! It's tasty and delicious. Who needs ketchup and mustard? The onion rings, well, they aren't great. Kinda dry, not a lot of flavor. Haven't had the fries yet, but that's not really what you go for! The burger is great on its own! The custard. Oh...the custard. This ain't no Culver's! It's creative, creamy, and delicious. Today's flavors: Bailey's Irish Cream Coffee and Truffle with an umlaut. I'm gonna be buzzed! Just fabulous. The staff look just like real soda jerks. There's one guy in particular who has a high and super tight haircut and he looks like the prototypical 1950s ice cream guy. They could use more smiles though. Look, if you're going there to sit in a booth like any other fast food restaurant, then you are there for the wrong reason, my friend.

I grew up here in Milwaukee and never really thought about Kopps as an outstanding frozen custard selection. If anything I only came here becauae of the waterfall, but as of recently I have grown to appreciate Kopps more since my out-of-town college pals think its heaven on earth. In my opinion the burgers are so-so, not really their shining point. Rather, it is the excitement of the flavor of the day and crazy serving size that is the cornerstone of Kopps. I recently had their candy-cane cone (forgot its actual name) and it was pretty good. What draws me in, however, is their raspberry custard! They actually give you raspberries and on top of that the custard is amazing. The only.other competition that meets or exceeds Kopps raspberry custard is Leons, which is of course my favorite place due to my upbringing. At any rate if you havent been to Kopps youre missing out. This location is perfect if you feel like getting a good frozen treat after some mall shopping!
(4)Jason B.
Another one of Milwaukee's "favorites" It's a favorite of mine, but only for the custard. The burgers are awful. Always overcooked, way too sloppy, and just a plain frozen patty. No thanks. The custard is always great though. If this was just a custard stand, 5 stars. But it's a restaurant that has custard...so 2 stars it is. Also a low rating because of a lack of seating in the winter. The courtyard in the summer is absolutely gorgeous, and if my visit was during the summer, it probably would have gotten 3....but sorry Kopp's, I'm not sure what the big deal is.
(2)Jared A.
Kopps has the best burgers in the Greenfield area! They are large and well worth it. Also, the custard is always amazing! So many good flavors every day. You can't go wrong with their Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. There's no where that does it better than Kopps!
(5)GE N.
I love the custard here- worth the drive. The ambience is actually quite nice for a fast food joint. Parking lot is a zoo. Fries are not the best- over salted, oil was over due for a change, and loose too much heat just in the time it takes to bag them. Burgers are good because of all the toppings but good nonetheless.
(4)Richard H.
Been to Kopp's many time and when I order a double scoop custard on a cone I get a double, but recently been getting what looks like a single. Stopped in tonight for Birthday Cake with my girlfriend and she ordered a single & I got a double but when the girl gave it to me it looked exactly like my girlfriends single. When I asked the girl how this was a double she explained that it was pushed down in the cone. I left but when I ate it I found that it wasn't pushed down in the cone at all. Really getting tired of getting shortchanged.

I've never been able to tell if Leon's or Kopp's is better, but for whatever reason my custard experiences at both places always seem to be better than Lickity Split or Scooter's. Don't get me wrong, I still really like both of those Chicago custard places a lot, and they serve their purpose. Though this one doesn't have the memorable long line of cow statues the Port Washington Rd. location does near the Sprecher brewery, I definitely prefer the patio of this Kopp's at Layton/76th. Surrounded by plants, trees, and a nice waterfall in a sunken area. Don't know how the Bluemound Rd. location's outdoor area compares to this one or the Port Washington Rd. location, since I've only been to those 2 locations. And I've always been amazed at how quick the service is at both of them, even when it's busy! Very convenient location just north of Southridge Mall, if you're in this part of the Milwaukee area. Third location is in Brookfield, and the location many people usually think of is the Port Washington Rd. one in Glendale.
(5)Tim W.
BEST frozen custard hands down. The cookies and cream is ridiculous and my favorite flavor by far, but honestly you can't go wrong with most of their flavors. I especially like the fact that they mix in the ingredients at the end to give it a more "fresh" feel to it. Even when it's 10 degrees outside, I could go for a scoop of Kopp's. Stick with the custard, the burgers are mediocre at best.
(5)Lisa B.
When I think about Kopp's, this is the location that comes to mind. Growing up on the south side/near suburban area of Milwaukee, this was our location we went to. The outdoor eating area is fantastic, and I have always loved the little waterfalls. The food is awesome. Of course. It is freaking Kopp's! Their burgers must be made out of love, because they are so deliciously amazing. How does one make such a great burger?
(5)Fahd A.
Not only the best burger in town but the biggest of them all as well. And their custard is amazing.
(5)Kelly J.
I had never had custard before coming here. Also never knew it's like a Midwest phenomenon. It's a tragedy that I have lived all these years and never knew about this. At the same time, I'm grateful they do not have this in California - at least not to my knowledge - which is pretty vast when it comes to all things delicious. Wonderfully thick, buttery, creamy goodness. I got the peach and the last bite was just as perfect as the first. It was happiness on a cone on a beautiful late summer night. Next time I would try the burger. They smelled incredible.
(5)Randi H.
I admittedly haven't been here in a few years, and a few years ago, Kopp's would have gotten five stars from me. However, since my becoming disabled due to multiple sclerosis, I have been unable to eat here. While they are generally handicap accessible, they don't have adequate indoor seating. I cannot stand long enough to enjoy my food indoors, as my legs weaken very quickly. I can only hope Kopp's will someday become more accessible to people with disabilities.
(2)Shaun E.
Normally it's a place to enjoy a wonderful treat but today workers there had an attitude! If you don't want your job then quit! Learn customer service. Will not be returning to this location again! I highly recommend driving down the road to Leon's for a better frozen custard experience. Sorry Kopps, your employees needs an attitude adjustment. Thanks!
(1)Corey D.
I feel bad. Real bad. But this ish is better than Culvers. Yeah. I said it. And I'm not taking it back!
(5)Real H.
Not a very warm and cozy ice cream parlor. good thing too, because if that were the case the ice cream would melt.
(5)Ben H.
Best burger in milwaukee!! Been going since a kid. The custard is always amazing as well!!
(5)Muy S.
So here in Los Angeles, the latest trend in frozen desserts seems to be snow ice. So here I was, looking at some pictures I took of snow ice... and I reminisced about a time when I had the best freakin frozen dessert in my life. It was at Kopp's. Why must you be so farrrrr!!! Gosh, this is gonna be a bittersweet review. You know it's good when I went there almost two years ago and I still think and talk about it. Kopp's frozen custard is unbelievably smooth and creamy. I've tried other frozen custards here in California and nothing every compares! sigh They serve a few flavors of the day in addition to regular daily flavors. I had the caramel apple: vanilla custard with apple pieces, caramel and peanuts. I remember it like it was yesterday. We sat outside on a bench near the waterfall-like water fountain. A child near us was screaming at his mother because he wanted frozen custard. It had rained earlier. The sky was gloomy... but I was happy. If someone ever mentions to me they are going to Milwaukee, or even Chicago (which is how I ended up there while on a trip to Chicago), I tell them GO TO KOPP'S!!
(5)Ming R.
Definitely the best burgers i ever eat!!! And the tiramisu frozen custards is recommended~!!! No regrets the for going~
(5)Jason C.
So I'm just a Kopps fan... period. I've tried some of "Milwaukee's best burgers" in the last year, and there were some good burgers. But I just love the burgers at Kopps. The same goes for the custard. To me, Leons and Kopps are about the same. Kopps has some great flavors of the day though.... some of my favorites are Tiramisu and Cookies n Cream. Those two are regulars... every 10 days if you pay attention!
(5)Rob V.
Stopped in here yesterday after watching a few basketball games at a local high school tournament. My brother (who lives 5 minutes from the restaurant) assures me that Kopp's is a "Milwaukee institution". If that's true, I can totally see why. My double cheeseburger was large, greasy and delicious -- far better than the fare at Culver's. (Which remains, in my mind, over-hyped and far more concerned with the quantity of its stores than the quality of its food.) The antiseptic, chair-less, massive cooking area-meets classic diner decor might scare off some foodies, but I'm not sure that's bad thing. Will I need to jog a few miles today to burn off the calories I ingested last night? For sure. But that's kind of the point of eating here in the first place.

Kopp's in my book is the reigning and defending champion of frozen custard in Milwaukee. Leon's is good, but Kopp's tastes better and has the two daily revolving flavors. Like Leon's, this location of Kopp's has remained virtually unchanged from my childhood. There is absolutely no better feeling than enjoying some delicious custard sitting by the waterfall on a warm summer night. The food is still good after all these years. I have graduated from the burgers after consuming hundreds of these during my teen years, now I stick with the fish sandwich and the onion rings. This last trip had my Mom, the baby and myself stop by for Mom's favorite flavor, Chocolate Almond. I haven't tasted anything like this. Swiss chocolate custard packed with WHOLE almonds, not just pieces of almonds like other places. Nothing like making your custard a good source of protein. Five Flavors That I Quickly Cross Multiple Lanes of Traffic For- 5. The aforementioned Chocolate Almond 4. Grasshopper Fudge. Minty goodness. Also good for taking care of onion ring breath. 3. Cherry Armaretto Cheesecake. Cherries and cheesecake in custard goes together like beer and brats in the Miller Park parking lot. 2. Rocky Road. Their take on this classic is insanely good. 1. My all time favorite, Sprecher Root Beer Float. All the goodness usually reserved for a glass, but strangely at home in a cone. This is the place you take your out of town friends to.
(5)Noa N.
It's like buttah. It was a thick creamy custard that was similar in texture to a freshly made butter. I watched the server dish my strawberry custard into a cup. A few fresh strawberries are mixed in. The custard didn't melt like ice cream or soft serve does. Maybe it was because I ate it so quickly but the custard all stuck together and not to the dish. It was creamier, more buttery than I expected but still tasty - it definitely tasted like strawberries - yum! Service was super quick. It was busy but not crazy. The atmosphere is more contemporary than I expected - the structure of the building, the waterfall was contemporary cool. I love how creative they are with some of their flavors - I saw maple and pancakes is an upcoming flavor of the day. I like the frozen custard shop back home in NC better but Kopp's was definitely a treat.
(4)Patrick C.
fantastic cheeseburger grilled cheese are to die for and of course the custard can't be beat little bit pricey
(5)Bruni S.
Butter Pecan is the best I've ever tasted. Special custard was cinnamon and that was good too. Not the best place to stand and wait for service during this season but worth the wait at the end.
(5)Tom B.
The custard is great, However, The burgers are good also, but the price of the food has gotten me down, 9.50 for a double burger and o rings lets be real Ill be going elsewhere for food from now on!
(2)Dan V.
Besides Leons, this is my favorite second custard place. The variety is untouchable, and my favorite ice cream flavor is Rum and Coke. Get it! It's delicious. Also the burgers are pretty awesome, and I suggest getting the works. The patties are fresh and the bread is nice. But the Fries suck, just ignore them and get onion rings.
(5)Justin L.
As far as frozen custard goes...Kopp's is the best. Any of their locations. Period. No need to look further if you're new to MKE. Eat it quick though! The heavy cream makes this stuff melt quick! I like this Greenfield location in particular though. The establishment has a modern, yet, retro diner feel to it. They also have a nice outdoor rock/water fountain garden where you can enjoy your frozen treats during the warmer days/nights.

While in Milwaukee, I knew that we had to stop by Kopp's. It's an institution here, right? I mean it wasn't exactly on the way home to Chicago since it's technically located in Greenfield but it was a must stop on the 4th of July after we stuffed our faces at Milwaukee Brat house. The place is huge, I've never seen so much custard flowing around. They definitely had some unique flavors of the day but me and the family went for the classics of chocolate and vanilla. The custard was delicious, especially the chocolate. I got it in a waffle cone and for less than $3 you get your money's worth, I mean they don't sell them that cheap in Chi town. It was absolutely yummy. It melted kinda fast so next time I'm definitely going with the cup version. The lines that are sometimes out the door moved pretty fast so I can't complain about that. The best part about Kopp's besides awesome custard, quick service is the location. They have this garden outdoors with trees in the shade and a huge water fountain. I mean talk about a scenic dessert environment. I know there's a different Kopp's location but this one is definitely the one you want to go to for a great environment. But remember their two scoops is more like four scoops if you're watching your portion intake, but I definitely was able to finish my "two scoops" and so will you since it's that tasty. Kopp's when in the area, I'll definitely be stopping by, I am a fan!
(4)Gerald W.
If you catch a flavor of the day that you really like, your trip to Kopp's will be even more special than otherwise. This is the best frozen custard in the world. It literally melts in your mouth. If you really want to pig out order a sundae, or a thick shake; to hell with the diet. The hamburgers and fries are nice and greasy like they are supposed to be. They are really good, but the reason to come here is the frozen custard. You can find many places with burgers and fries that are just as good, or better; but, you will never find better frozen custard. I am getting hungry just thinking about it. You know the place is good when, even in the cold of winter, people are lined up to buy their frozen custard.
(5)Damon R.
How can you not give Kopps 5 stars?..... I can and will! My family and I have been going to Kopps on Port Washington RD for ages. In the summer time Kopps is a place to frequent. If im feeling like ice cream i usually go to Kopps to get the biggest scoops of Butter Pecan ice cream that i can buy! Not to fear the food from the grill doesnt half step either! I usually order the grilled chicken breast with the slim cut fries and a vanilla milkshake. Heaven i tell you....pure heaven. Please go to Kopps Near Bayshore or Southridge and have your self a treat.
(5)Gerald W.
Heaven On Earth - Burgers, and Custard This may be the Disneyland of Milwaukee, the happiest place on earth! You go in and find out there are 2 flavors of the day for frozen custard, and every day you get two new flavors! They also have chocolate and vanilla, but the custard is frozen, cold, soft, and delicious. Top that off with the Kopp's Burger, a large burger topped with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and more, cooked to order and made fresh while you wait... the burgers are awesome. The food here actually is very good, but they lack seats and tables so dont plan on eating here. The burger area also makes peanut butter logs, banana splits and milkshakes. You could literally go here every day of the month and have something different, you would also weigh 500 pounds by the end of the month, but the food tastes great and is made fresh... what a find!
(5)Jacki S.
First time visiting Milwaukee, we decided on the way home to stop for some frozen custard. I would definitely say this is some of the best frozen custard I've had. I ordered the chocolate peanut butter log. It came with three scoops of fresh vanilla custard, peanut butter topping, and a chocolate shell. The custard had to be the most velvety, smoothest, and richest frozen custard I've ever had. To be perfectly honest, I was slightly disappointed that I ordered the sundae. The additional ingredients took away some of my enjoyment for the flavor and texture of the frozen custard itself. If I went again, I would definitely just order a couple of scoops on a cone. The one thing I was not a fan of was the building itself. The location is strange, the building is squat, industrial looking and ugly, and the interior provides no seating and is very gray and sterile. Finally, I'm not sure if this is normal, but my husband and I could smell something RANK coming from the heating vents. It seriously smelled like something died in there. But, next time I'm hoping we will go in the summer and can enjoy our delicious frozen custard outside in the fresh air.
(4)Tanya R.
Hands down, best custard in town! Burgers are great with their onion rings! Come here all year round.
(5)Rick H.
Seriously, there isn't much to say about Kopp's... if it was healthy I would eat here every day. It is not. Food this delicious can't be healthy - but it is worth every bite.
(5)Chris V.
As good as it gets. I grew up in Milwaukee and remember being taken here as a kid. With that being said, Kopp's is ALWAYS my first stop whenever I get back into town. Best burgers and Ice Cream in Wisconsin. The place is always packed, but the lines move quickly. Seating is limited, so get it to go if you're opposed to sitting outside.
(5)Willow W.
Amazing service! It was really quick especially with so many people. My sister ordered her ice cream and got it fast. I would avoid nights on a weekend. It just gets really busy. Parking will be difficult to find.
(4)Nicole H.
I am a hard-core Glendale Kopps devotee, but since the move to Stallis, this is now my location and I'm having a hard time getting used to it. My guess is I'll like this particular spot better in the warmer months, but at the moment it feels inconvenient, with bad parking and even less space to eat inside than the others. But they do peddle the delicious, delicious custard, so it's not like any of those things will keep me from Kopps. I just wish the lot was bigger and the location was easier to access from the streets - it always feels like I'm heading the least convenient direction on surrouding streets and have to make three U-Turns before I can get there.
(4)Alex B.
Kopp's is an institution in Milwaukee, there's no other way to say it. The common debate is between Leon's and Kopp's... who has the better custard? I myself am a Kopp's man because of the atmosphere and the quality of their third and fourth daily flavors. Kopp's is inexpensive and high quality. Whenever I have company from out of town who have never before experienced real Wisconsin custard, this is where I take them.
(4)Tim C.
Get the cheeseburger with Nueske's bacon. And custard too, of course. In the summer hang outside and enjoy by the waterfalls.
(5)Sadie T.
Good custard. Cool environment. Lots of options. Nice waterfall. Fun for kids. Kopps is a great example of Wisconsin high class custard. It's no Culver's. There is no drive through. You should get your custard and have a seat by the waterfall.
(4)Eugene W.
Perfect combination of burger and custard. Can not give it five stars as I have not tried any of the other Custard joints in Milwaukee. Wait can be a little long if you come during a rush and order food. Custard service has always been fast. Serving sizes are HUGE and the burgers are BIG.
(4)Jim M.
The best Frozen Custard you will find along with customer service second to none.
(5)Dawn I.
I kind of hate that I moved away. I've been going here for too many years to admit to and it is like home. I miss this place the most. I have traveled great distances and could not find anything close in my travels. The burgers are very large but oh so delicious. Cheese and fried onions are the way to go. If you want custard but don't want to "waste it" on a shake or malt make sure to take a friend with to split the burger. The onion rings are also great. Crisp and tasty. Just remember that when you order a specialty sundae here - it's a trough not a cup. For the $6 - $7 range you get your money's worth. The cashew creation has always been my favorite. This is a cannot miss stop when I am home.
