Fabulous food & excellent margaritas! Yummy steak taco's. Loved the chips & salsa. Beautiful decor. Can't wait to go again! Only complaint is that it's too loud and hard to have a conversation with people at your own table. Went on a Friday night. Probably more calm during lunch or a weeknight.

Tremendous food! Alluring decor! Endless salsa/chips!! My family rarely goes out to eat and all enjoy our meal at the same time. My brother and I had the Tacos Tradicionales. I don't know what my parents had, but I will edit it in tomorrow. Only reason it's 4 stars instead of 5 is the prices are a bit expensive and they only give one free refill on the 2.25 soda, but it's not like I NEED to keep injecting soda into my veins. The service, food, and atmosphere were great and being next to Southridge Mall makes it a perfect stop before or after shopping!

Horrible horrible horrible! It is sad when you spend more time driving to a place than at the place. They don't accommodate your requests because nothing on the menu is intra changeable. I ordered a combination platter with tamale chimichanga and enchilada wanted all three in chicken. Well tamale's only come in pork the server told me. So I proceeded to ask Can I replace the pork tamale with chicken taco? Answer no. How about something than? Answer no. But he said I can make my own combination from the ala carte side of the menu. What is the freaken difference? $1-maybe $2. That place is just cheap, ugly, and loud! Don't waste your time there.

There used to be a Chi-Chi's Mexican restaurant at this location, years ago. And I loved that place. But alas, it closed. Along came Champps American Grill, which left this area of town devoid of a good Mexican restaurant for quite some time. Then, all of a sudden, Champps was closed and renovations began. Then an "El Beso" sign went up, and my curiosity was piqued. And then, after much anticipation, the doors opened. On a recent busy afternoon, when I wasn't much in the mood to do any cooking, I finally made my way over to El Beso to give it a whirl. And while I'm happy to finally have a decent Mexican restaurant in the area, I'm not overjoyed with my experience; I'm simply joyed. The Good: The service was remarkably fast and continuously friendly. The ambiance is great: wonderful decoration and typical noise level for this kind of joint. The menu is extensive, with a few surprises, and you'll find all the classic Americanized Mexican fare. The prices were reasonable - on par with other similar establishments. The OK: The food was OK. It was tasty, hot, and served quickly. But nothing tickled my palate all that much. And the corn tortillas had a tendency to fall apart easily - even though they were doubled up on the fish tacos. Summary: I'll definitely head back if I'm in the area and craving Mexican. But if I'm planning ahead to have Mexican food, this won't be the joint I go to; I'll drive a few extra miles.

Good food, great margaritas, very prompt service. Chips and salsa before you can even get settled in your seat! (Ask for the Verde salsa along with the red that you get automatically). Good variety of meat choices (although use caution when getting the chorizo, VERY salty, usually get it on just one item). The El Beso steak burrito is really good and is HUGE. Have never been disappointed coming here. The patio leaves something to be desired though. It's owned by the same people that own El Fuego but i prefer this much better. Only thing El Fuego has over this place is their patio is much nicer with a huge fountain/ waterfall.

This was the Friday lunch place. We had take out so I will only comment on the food. I had the shredded pork burrito dinner. People comment on how it's pricey and I would agree. The food was good and there was plenty of it. It was not what I would call authentic and Americanized Mexican. The hot sauce I asked for was as mild as ketchup. The burrito was big and was all shredded pork with very little cilantro and onions that I asked for. It was covered with cheese and came with rice and beans. The rice was cooked perfect but as always little flavor. The beans had a layer of cheese on top and I did like them. The shredded pork was in need of something because it was pretty tame flavor wise. I was looking for bolder flavor but it was cooked for the masses. Over all it was it was typical American Mexican food at above average pricing and will fill most people up. I would eat at other places that pricing was more in line with what was being served. Price vs wow factor was out of balance and you have many choices for Mexican food of similar quality at a realistic price point. I will not say not don't go there because I did like the food overall and it was very filling and I had half of it left for another meal. I just wish it had more of the wow factor. If some one at work Said lets go there again I would rock the chicken nachos that sound good.

Chips were salty good. Salsa is just right in terms of spiciness. Large portions and great atomosphere.

Lets see, for seating there was a basically empty room and we got seated next to one of the only 2 tables that had people at it. Of course they were loud. I got a very dirty glass. It looked like some smeared beans on the inside and then let it dry, filled it with soda and served it to me. We got a basket of broken tiny chips and the chip guy ignored giving us a refill even though we ordered guacamole. Then to top off a great lunch I am eating my spinach quesadilla and there is a hair in it. What food I could enjoy was average at best.

We recently discovered this place and have been there about 4 times in the last few months. Every time it's exceptional. Great food, great service, great atmosphere, great prices. I no longer have to drive all the way to the 5th and National area for good Mexican food.

Love this place! The staff is friendly and very attentive--even if you're just having drinks at the bar they'll make sure you never see the bottom of your bowls of chips and salsa. The happy hour here is great, with a variety of flavored margaritas to try, and the lunch specials can't be beat, especially the spinach and cheese quesadilla. Love the decor, too...yes, it's cheesy, but lighten up a little. The food isn't "authentically" Mexican, either.

Some of the best Mexican food we've tasted in a very long time. I ordered the Half-Broiled Mexican Chicken at our server's suggestion and it was outstanding. Delicious chicken with that char-grilled flavor in the middle of winter, and a tangy mix of grilled peppers with just the right amount of heat. Salsa and chips were plentiful. Red salsa was good, the verde/green salsa had a little more kick and was very good (you might have to ask for it). We're from Chicago, which has no shortage of Mexican restaurants, and El Beso is better than most.

The food is pretty good here and so is the service. I have been here twice and will definitely go back again. The first time I went here I had the "Camaron al la Mexicana". It was tasty but it was really really hot! I didn't realize this at the time, but on the menu there are littlle peppers by certain entres showing their degree of hottness. This one had 2. On my second visit I had the "Camaraon Poblano con Queso". It was a little bland but still ok. If they could some how find a happy medium between these two dishes they would have something really delicious. The portions here are pretty good size so I always end up with a doggy bad and left overs. I have to say that unlike many resturant excursions that I have, the food here always seems to taste better the next day.

I have been back several times since my last review and I will bump them up to 3. They seem to have become less irritating with the "Do you want more chips and salsa" every 2 min like they were before. Food is still typical Americanized Mexican and Happy Hour margaritas like you would expect to get at any large Mexican restaurant.

  • Erica K.

My husband and I come here regularly for dinner with his parents and we have never had a bad experience. We always sit at bar for dinner and the bartenders are very outgoing and friendly. The drink selection is good and the house sangria is always a popular choice. The prices are a little higher than say Botanas but still reasonable for the portions that you get. The avocado nachos have chunks of fresh avocado on it which was yummy and the tostado and the enchiladas are also very good. You always get your choice of meat and it comes with beans and rice as well as the free chips and salsa. The decor makes me feel like I am in the Dells because of the over the top Mexican theme but its fun and I'm sure kids love it.

  • Jeff K.

Food was pretty good. Nice atmosphere, attentive service. Margaritas were pretty good. HH from 2:30-5:30. The guacamole could have used some spice. I has the chicken pablano with cheese (pollo poblano con queso), which was really good.

Floored... For a cheesy mexican American-style restaurant this place is amazingly. Staff uber good n helpful. Food authentic n delicious. Wish it wasn't so far south. Pisoli Verde is amazing. Best I have ever had.

My boyfriend and I went there yesterday for lunch and I was so disappointed with the whole experience. The overall look of the place was neat. The decorations were very colorful and nice but too bad the service and food wasn't. I had ordered a margarita on the rocks and he had ordered a blended strawberry one...overall margarita's not bad. Well, chips and salsa were ok at that. I had ordered shrimp fajitas and he had ordered enchiladas...cheese and onion. I was disappointed that the fajitas didn't come with avacado and I had asked for flour tortillas ( I hate corn). Well our food was delivered and I had corn tortillas. We didn't know who our waiter was because our original waitress had went on break. Finally after 20 minutes of not being able to locate him, I found him....we had to call him over, he didn't even bother to check on us to see how our food was. 20 minutes after I got my food, I was finally able to eat my food. It was gross and barely any shrimp for the cost of $22.00. For lunch, it cost us $45.00 dollars. The topper of this all, is I had asked my waiter for a water refill twice, never got water and I didn't even want to tip this guy (very rare of me). I gave him my credit card and my boyfriend had decided to give him a cash tip. Well, I check my credit card statement today and the guy left himself an $11.00 dollar tip on my credit card. You have got to be kidding me? I'm irate and will never return back to this hell hole of a place. It's unfortunate that these are the same owners of El Fuego....wow, you guys messed up here. I won't be visitng El Fuego anymore either because I am that irate. La Fuentes is perfect for me. Don't waste your money nor time here. The food sucks and so does the service.

GREAT ATMOSPHERE! you need to go here at least once just to check it out. It looks like you stepped into a restaurant in mexico. The food was pretty good. I do agree that it is a little pricy though. Was not a fan of the regular margarita but would def recomend the mango flavor. They can make all of their flavored margaritas on the rocks too!

There are many tales told regarding restaurants here on Yelp, but restaurant reviews aren't just about food. Sure, right out of the gate the chips and salsa were right on par with the best from even the most formidable hole-in-the-walls. Don't get me wrong, this is the farthest cry from a hole in the wall. This place has the authentic flavors of Michoacan, Jalisco, y Guadalajara, but the ambiance of a rich mexican fiesta. One reviewer compared its decor to something you'd experience in Disneyland, I couldn't agree more. Of course, the ambiance and food were only deliciously augmented by our wonderful bartender, server, and gracious host, Dani Harmon. If possible, this writer recommends you visit during her shift. She doesn't just recommend the mahi mahi because it's "special", she is a sport fisherman that frequents the Florida coast regularly to catch the wild fish. And, she happens to be one of the most knowledgable and friendliest people you might come across standing behind a bar. As any Mexican food fan knows, a good restaurant can be judged by its beans and rice, and these were done just right. The memories of abuelitas kitchen flooded right in. This writer recommends El Beso. It's definitely is worth a trip, whether it's right down the street or a short Southwest flight across the states.

I think El Beso an a pretty good place. Seems clean and the people are always really nice. You can always go and get "real" mexican food on the south east side, but you may get robbed. Stick with Greenfield. I love their fajitas here and some skillet thing they have with beef. It's a B place in the C part of town.

Not terrible. But not really authentic Mexican food if that's what you're looking for. And I found the margaritas to be too sweet.

Every single time my fiancé and I choose El Beso, we are never disappointed. The food is phenomenal, i always order the beef chimichanga and go home with half the plate! The atmosphere is fun and the service is ALWAYS exceptional. The servers really take care of you and your needs. I always find myself craving El Beso :).

I find this place hit or miss... not my first choice. Decent bar crowd for watching games (we have no cable). Food is hit or miss; a few things are decent but most are oversized odd combinations of greasy filling food. Margaritas are the same; one time I had a fresh one, the next was a terrible mix. Once my husband demanded dessert.. it was a giant tortilla deep fried and filled with vanilla pudding mix. Ugh. Service also hit or miss... but mostly miss. Once we were the last table while they were still open and we were swept under. Literally brooms were put under our chairs and feet while we were eating. Another time we begged for bar service while the bartenders were busy flirting or getting drunk with their friends.

I appreciated the vegetarian options, specifically labeled as vegetarian options. I ordered the enchiladas, which were okay but too drenched in cheese. Good chips and salsa, decent service. Acceptable food. The problem is the NOISE level. WHAT? I couldn't hear you, my ear drums have been blown out. This is a popular restaurant in an area lacking non-chain options. They must serve several thousand people on weekend nights. This place is huge, and it's packed. I would definitely not bring anyone with hearing issues here, and definitely do not bring someone with crowd anxiety. I suppose I am being too hard here because there is likely little this restaurant can do to fix the noise and crowd issues, they are simply in high demand. Which does indicate they are doing something right.

Good Mexican food in the burbs! Got the shredded pork enchiladas mole and it was stuffed to the max full of meat. A good balance between the cheese & meat. Located in the parking lot of a strip mall so parking is very easy.

I have been to El Beso several times now, and I have always had a good experience here. The restaurant is very colorful and spacious, and they also have a nice patio area outside for the summer months. The staff is very nice and welcoming. The food is very good. The standard tacos, burritos, and enchiladas are offered here. However, they also offer burgers and chicken sandwiches, which I think is very nice of them to do, for those who may not care for Mexican food. On my last visit, I had the seafood enchilada, which contains sauteed mahi mahi and shrimp and is topped with their red sauce. It was delicious. The sauce has a little bite to it, but is a very nice addition to the enchilada. El Beso has amazing margaritas. I have stopped here after work with co-workers in the past for them. They have their happy hour every day from 2:30-6:00pm. The happy hour specials are $3 house margaritas, 1/2 off all beers, and $3.50 for all rail drinks. They also have $6 skinny cocktails and $1 off all glasses of wine during happy hour. After writing this review, I now have a craving for El Beso. I think I'll need to plan another trip very soon.

I've been to El Beso so many times, the cumulative amount of tacos I've consumed should be enough to feed a large family (classy, I know). El Beso is the sister restaurant of El Fuego, and like El Fuego, they serve Tex-Mex fare. I usually get the "Taco Tradicional," which includes three tacos with a serving of rice and beans. The steak tacos are delicious. The quality of the meat is fairly high, especially for the price, and is well-seasoned so no sauce necessary. The chicken tacos are good, as well; moist with a decent flavor, but I usually drizzle a little hot sauce to bring out its full potential. As for the chorizo, I find it to be very salty, but the lettuce and tomatoes help cut out some of the sodium. The rice and the beans are pretty good, too. They've never been over-salted so it definitely adds to my overall meal. The portions are astronomical, so expect leftovers for days. I usually order the Piña Colada, and I really like El Beso's version because they're basically spiked smoothies. They put in a generous amount of Barcardi so I'm always satisfied after one (then again I am a light-weight). They insert a slice of pineapple on the rim for decoration, but I eat it anyways because it's always ripe. What surprises me most about El Beso is the service. I've honestly had some of the nicest servers here. They'll consistently refill my water, ask if I want another Piña Colada, and every time I finish the complimentary chips, someone would immediately give me a fresh batch. Futhermore, they're great about checking up on you, and do so in a way that's genuinely nice. They all deserve shiny gold stars. In order to be completely fair with my review, I had to take into consideration the location El Beso is in and, excluding a couple places here and there, it's one of the only restaurants in the area that's not a mega-chain. If you go down 76th, you'll know what I mean. The ambiance is loud and proud. There's nothing subtle about the decor, which kind of adds to their charm. They definitely follow the "go big or go home" philosophy. In addition, it's impossible to miss this place, since the outside is a hodgepodge of color, pattern and lights. It's like "Where's Waldo?" if Waldo was the only thing on the page... For what it is, El Beso is a pretty swell place. I wouldn't go out of your way to dine here, but if you're in Greenfield with an empty belly and in the mood for some adult smoothies, give El Beso a go. And order the Piña Colada.

I came here shortly after it opened. The decor is beautiful and the food was good, but geez Louise was it loud. I should not have had to yell across the table so that my dining companions could hear me. Ditto the Mariachi band. They were good, but it was as if they had mini amps on them somewhere! If I come here again, I think I'll try sitting outdoors. 4/2015/98

Wow! Tonight was my first time here and I was loving it!! First of all, the decor is amazing!!! I love all the colors and paintings, they really helped shape the atmosphere. Second: can you say huge portions!!? My boyfriend and I ordered the chicken quesadillas and they literally filled up an entire plate! And were they ever delicious! Cheesy and chicken-y, and amazingly not a ton of grease! I was in heaven, and my boy was in a food coma. :) Our waitress and bus/boy/chip-deliverer were awesome. We came in totally starved (we spent all day shopping and we had all only eaten breakfast, and we were well into the dinner hour) and the chips were well stocked, and our food arrived in no time at all. All in all I'm very, VERY pleased with this place and will definitely be back again.

Not bad but, not great. Prices are right but the food was so so. Wait staff is cool. Drinks could of had some booze in it. Really week for the cost of them.

I have been to El Beso several times and have never had a bad experience! My Fiance and I recently stopped here for a late lunch on a Saturday and were pleased to see that they were in the midst of happy hour and still honoring the lunch menu. We got a pitcher of margaritas which were great- and when our food came out we were surprised at how generous the lunch portions were! The fish tacos are excellent! The service was friendly, and they made sure you were never without chips and salsa- which made me happy because you can never have too many chips!

  • Kristen R.

I can't stay away from this place! The steak tacos are my favorite and the guacamole is one of the best in the area! Also, who can resist $3 margaritas every day from 2:30 - 6pm!

    (5)
  • Becky M.

While the food is delicious, it's as authentic as Taco Bell. Fantastic margaritas and guacamole. The portions are gigantic so getting one entree is an investment as I can make several meals out of the leftovers. When I have a taste for Mexican this is definitely one of my top choices...just don't expect authenticity.

  • Colleen H.

I have never had a worse dining experience! My husband's and my food had an unpleasant taste. The ground beef tasted fishy and mealy. When I told the waitress, she referred me to the manager who said 'well no one else complained ' WHAT?!? What happened to 'I'm sorry'? Ridiculously POOR customer service. Needless to say my last visit and my opportunity to spread the word. This deserves NEGATIVEx100

We won't be back. El Beso used to be a nice place to go to enjoy good Mexican food, though it was a little pricey. Since they've changed their menu and their prices (higher), it's not even worth going to. It was a Sunday at 6:30 and the restaurant was nearly empty (when it used to be packed at that day/time), so I'm guessing other people have noticed the difference and are refraining from returning as well. They've taken some of their best items off the menu, replaced them with items that are cheaper to make, and raised the prices higher than they were before. Additionally, they nickel and dime you everywhere. For example, we were charged for sour cream that came on the side of my tacos; I didn't order sour cream, nor did I eat it, but I paid for it (and for the record the menu did not say it came with it). Our service was mediocre as well. My drink sat empty for probably 10 minutes before the waitress came by and refilled it, and it wasn't even busy. There were three tables with people in our section out of about 20 tables. If I'm paying the higher prices, the service should have matched. The food is still good, but only go there if you're willing to overpay. Again, we won't be back.

Great food and excellent customer service. The guacamole here is well made and never disappoints. The waiters are very nice and work really fast to get your order out. This is the best Mexican restaurant in the area.

I don't know what everyone's problem is with this place! Sunday afternoon 330. We came in and there are a lot of people at the bar and even tables. We ordered drinks and guacamole. Omg. The portion was enormous! Flavorful and chunky. The way I like it. Hands down some of the best best in Milwaukee. Portions were generous too. Rice and beans hot and not greasy. Fish tacos excellent! Not expensive in the least. Great value, great service! Nice surprise! We will be back!

  • Valerie J.

I like the food here okay; my husband, not so much. I agree with him to a certain extent. It's certainly not authentic, by any means. But I still find the food pretty tasty and filling. The food arrives so quickly that it makes me wonder if the dishes are pre-made and waiting for customers. One thing my husband and I do agree on: we always get good service. The servers are friendly and attentive. If you order a margarita, I highly recommend upgrading and avoiding the house margarita, which is frankly wretched. But upgrade to a handmade margarita and you'll get your money's worth. Yum!

  • Kelly B.

This place is fun. I sat at the bar, and the service was great - very friendly and attentive. The margaritas are clearly not homemade which stinks, but they're good for what they are. Good happy hour specials. I tried a tamale, they only had pork. It was a little dry, but the salsa that came with it was very unique and very good. I am looking forward to coming back and trying an actual entree here.

Great margaritas... Not much else. When this place first opened I thought it was fantastic, but it has all gone steadily downhill from there. Their guacamole was great, now it's awful. It's way overpriced for what you get. I'd rather go to La Fuentes or Los Mariachis for Mexican food. Better prices for what you get.

WARNING: this is long overdue but I wanted to make sure people are aware of the service here. The food/drinks are decent. I was a regular and my family would eat there several times a year, big family so we'd get many plates and sample just about eveything. Again, my issue isn't with the food itself but with a certain experience we had on Dec 23rd 2014. My best friend, her husband, myself and my hubby were enjoying a late dinner (8:30pm). We started with drinks at the bar and we're seated a bit after. Gilberto (older gentlemen, styled gray hair) was our sever and boy that's where the good ends. We ordered quite a few things and before long the plates started piling up. Not a big deal, we just pushed them off to the side. By the time our meal is over I can tell they are getting ready to shut everything down. We ordered dessert to go but he brought it out on plates for us. My friend took the check and decided to treat us. While we were having a conversation Gilberto comes up and is SHAKING, trying to contain himself. He is not discreet and loudly asks, did you mean to tip me "X amount"?? At this point I couldn't help but feel embarassed as he's shaking the check in front of my friends face. You can tell he is unhappy about the amount. TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL and unacceptable! My husband and I were going to leave a cash tip in addition to what they left, afterall they paid for the meal, it was our agreement. To add injury, he goes back to the bar and while looking over at us starts audibly telling the waitress in Spanish that he was only tipped a measly 10%! Guess he didn't realize I'm a native Spanish speaker and heard everything!! after that we grabbed our things and ditched the additional tip. We refuse to go back and my family has vowed never to set foot in there again after the poor service we were given. Way to make loyal customer feel like dirt over your piss poor server's attitude. My friend will never be back after the embarassment they faced :(

LOVE the pork enchiladas and Mahi Mahi tacos. Service is always super friendly. Margaritas are yummy. Service is speedy. Love the patio and atmosphere. BUT I do feel like some of the dishes and entrees are a little bit over priced.

The atmosphere inside El Beso is fantastic. Part of me felt like I was back in Mexico. The server, although very busy, was very attentive and friendly. We never sat waiting for something we needed. I ordered the El Beso Combinacion and it was delicious(I recommend the mole with the chicken). Worth every penny. The only reason this is a four star and not a five is because there was plastic in one of my girlfriends chicken tacos. However the manager was quick to offer a replacement plate. All in all I would highly recommend trying the place out next time you are in the mood for Mexican.

PJ S's review really helped me formulate a very well thought out decision whether to eat at El Beso. His review was scathing but useful. Harsh but fair. Ranty but articulate. I would classified as a "super solid" review. PJ S made really think about my restaurant decision making process. Not only that but he really made think about how I make life decisions. Super solid man. Super solid.

FAJITAS! My boyfriend and I visit El Beso, and their sister spot El Fuego quite frequently. The fajitas and chimichungas are great! My favorite part is that the free chips and salsa dont stop coming. I always have leftovers after all the chips I fill up on. You get a lot of food for the great price.

I have been eating at El Beso ever since it opened a few years ago. I was even able to go to their pre-opening, friends and family dinner since one of my friends was going to be working there! The food has always been consistantly good. It can be slightly on the more expensive side, but most of the time it is worth it. I love to sit at the bar whenever I go there since there are many tv's around with sports on them. Definitely keep your eye on the different specials they have going!

Holy Crackers! Where do average mainstream american's go to crowd together for some TexMex? This place. This is the place to take that date you are not sure about. If they are dull as a doorknob, you can pass the time with plenty to look at between the overloaded decor, the seriously excellent people watching or the tightly run ship of a business. Chips are a never ending start as the staff quickly replaces your empties with fresh. Food was what you would expect, and plenty of it. We had to waddle out the door. Tables were cleaned and reset before the leaving party was even out the door. There must be a hundred people working here. If you are more of a foodie looking for something unique food wise, this is not it. I would say this is a place for satisfying divergent tastes (who doesn't like tex-mex), parties, family gatherings or a non risky meal. Be prepared to wait of you go on a weekend.

Excellent pork tacos! Best civiche ever! I truly love the food here. I've always had good service too. I only wish they were open later so I could stay longer and eat more. Yum!

Imagine TGI Fridays if they were overpriced and owned by Mexicans, and you have El Beso. Regardless, food is filling and good.

An 'ok' place to get some Mexican food. Def not the "freshest" of food. The staff is always nice. Menu is huge, portions are huge, dining area -- also huge. However, the shrimp taste weird. I end up never wanting to finish the shrimp here and that just shouldn't be the case as I would normally not ever waste seafood! Creativity is lacking a bit in the food and sometimes I wonder where it all comes from.

For someone who likes traditional mexican cuisine and has visited almost every Mexican restaurant in the area, this is a location that tries very hard. A lot of aesthetics, and a great bar, but lacks in the food area. The food isn't horrible, and is quite good, but lacks that traditional flavor and flair I normally have. A solid lunch location and good hangout spot in the Greenfield/Southridge area.

This place is awesome. Whether you are on your first date with that special someone, celebrating a birthday or with a group of friends trying to grab a bite to eat, El Beso can fit any occasion. The service is perfecto, the wait on food is rapido, and the food is magnifico!!! (is that even a word? Haha) But what if you are not in the mood for Mexican Food? El Beso can also accommodate you on other items on their list like their Burgers, Fries and even Chicken Wings (which were awesome btw). Stop in and try it out. I'll be checking in here more often. :)

food was ok ..service was really bad . the waiter offered us refills on soda and never brought them. never asked us how the food was . we accidentally forgot our leftovers on the table and remembered by the time we reached the door and we went back to the table and it was still dirty and our leftovers gone nobody knew where they went

Great food, great service, expansive and fresh menu, large outdoor patio - what's not to love? Well, perhaps the busy weekend crowds! If you arrive after 5pm, be prepared to wait. However, despite the long waiting list, the wait moves quickly because the restaurant has tons of seating. Some of my favorites include the Steak Fajitas (flavorful, tender streak), Queso Fundido with torillas (creamy, cheesey with a bit of a space), the beef Chimichanga (MASSIVE! Get the ala carte size instead unless you want some leftovers) and the unlimited chips & salsa.

I hate to do this, but this might be the worst restaurant experience this year, which says a lot considering I just enjoyed fingernail custard at another restaurant. At least they were nice. I've actually enjoyed this restaurant in the past. I've been eating here every few months since they opened. I gave them a lot of slack, considering there restaurant is just another clone of about 15 other Mexican-American "Margaritavilles" that have popped up on the South side in the past 10 years. Every meal here has progressively gotten worse, and after this last trip, it's unlikely that I'll return. This trip was pretty spur of the moment, my wife found out her Mom was in the area eating at El Beso, so she asked if we could join her for lunch and she obliged, saying she would hold the table next to us so that we may sit we each other. We entered the establishment and walked right up to the hostess. Business was very slow this day, she went to seat us and we said we were meeting another party here. I found and flagged down her Mom, but the waitress failed to give us any menus. Certainly odd; she darted the other way before I could even ask. We went and grabbed our table. We took a separate table right next to Mom-in-Law, considering they were halfway through their meal when we got in and we wanted to order food. Immediately we were served chips and salsa. I thought it would only be a matter of time before who I thought was our waiter, who was leaning against a counter, would come up and ask if we wanted to order anything. Half the tables in his section were empty. We burned through one order only to get a second order right away, this time I tried to flag down the waiter but he took off somewhere else. As we were eating the second order, I told my wife that if we don't get service before we run out of chips again, we will leave and eat somewhere else. We finished that order, and when I told her to pack up the baby's stuff (baby sat in wife's lap this whole time, with no offer of a high chair), all of the sudden we were a priority. He ran up and asked "Will you be ordering anything?" I didn't want to be rude, and figuring we just waited 25+ minutes to be served, I figured maybe someone was confused so I decided to stay, asked for menus, water for my wife, a strawberry mango margarita for me and a high chair for the baby. We got all of our demands served right away, and I didn't even make a fuss about having to wait. I'm still regretting that. On a side note, as I was trying my best to look manly sipping on my fruity margarita (hey, what can I say? They're not great here, but good nonetheless). Some lady in her late 50's that was sitting next to us asked me "What is that, a daiquiri?". A daiquiri? Has she been living in Vault 101 for the past 50 years? Instead of being rude, I told her it was a little known thing called a "Mar-ga-Rita" and she should try one. Let me tell you something about my waiter. He is the David Spade of the service industry. Snarky, rude and not even funny, you wonder how he not only got the job, but maintained it for so long. As long as we waited, we waited almost as long for our food with no apologies. They weren't even busy at all, yet he even failed to ask me if I wanted another drink after I finished mine (I did!) and brought the check without asking if I wanted dessert (I did!). I regret giving him the small tip I did, he certainly didn't work for it. As far as the food goes, it was almost as bad as the service. I won't sit here and compare it to "Authentic Mexican", because I actually enjoy the Mexican-American style of food. There is one major quality I do enjoy about this food, I like it to be hot when I eat it. Hell, I'd even settle for warm. My wife got a bean tostada and a taco. Both of them were cold. I got the combo plate of an enchilada, a tamale and a Chimichanga. The enchilada and the tamale were both cold, and as almost a slap in the face, the chimi was delicious. I've had these here before, but never this good. The chicken was full of flavor and the cheese was in proportion and set right so it made a gooey layer on the inside of the fried tortilla. Still not good enough to get me to go back. This exceptionally poor service and the cold food had both my wife and I saying that it wasn't even worth close to the $31.50 we paid. Do yourselves a favor, skip this place and go to one of the other half dozen Mexican restaurants in a 5 mile radius of this place that will actually give you better food and better service for much cheaper.

If I could give it 3.5 I would. The food was pretty good. I had the fajitas and I was pleasantly surprised by the portion size. Some places you get fajitas, you will run out of one ingredient faster than others and that wasn't the case here. The service was fast and decent. They were quite busy when I was there. It seems like your typical mex-american/Margarita place.

Chicken Fajitas were fabulous. I've attached a picture. I've also found the shrimp with veggies outstanding. The happy hour has some great pricing with half off beers. The selection of tap beer is also quite impressive. Chips and salsa were fresh are replenished quickly. The waiter we had (Jorge) was extremely friendly and very helpful with our questions. One of the managers stopped by our table (Allen) to make certain everything was alright. I highly recommend.

First let me say by saying great drink specials...Management does care after that ...now the rant! First two female bartender speaking in Spanish is rude and in reality poor manners ... I was taught in public speak the local language not a language your patrons have no idea of what your saying in fact its just rude leave the work drama and or your ersonal drama at home...took roughly 15 mins to get my food and as I looked around weren't even paying attention, they both would rather talk too each other or the other workers of the establishment... And before the food they would rather talk over in the corner or different part of the bar then look at the patrons too see if they need another beverage time for that 5 mins...

So I've been here 4 times. The first time I was not impressed and decided to come back for lunch. Lunch specials are a good deal but the portions are small. The other 2 times I came to meet a group of people. This review is based on all 4 times that I've been to El Beso. ....Yet another "Mexican" restaurant that caters to gringos and those with no knowledge of good authentic Mexican food! I really wish Champs was still there and not this below average Mexican restaurant. Atmosphere: It is still set up the way Champs was. They just slapped a bunch of tacky Mexican decor on the walls. The chairs are not comfortable and the booth sitting is not meant for bigger people. Service: One word...Terrible! Yes they will fill you up with canned salsa that has no flavor or stale chips. If you consider that good service then you will like the service. The problem is with the wait staff. Thy have no knowledge of the menu and will not check on your table more than twice if you're lucky! The last time I came here I spoke to the waitress in Spanish to ask a simple question regarding the way the chicken is made. Well you would have thought I was talking in Chinese as she still did not understand me! Train the waiters because the food is not good you might as well make up for that with good service. Owners need to look at their other restaurants like omega, copy and paste. Food: bland, no spices, no flavor....can not come close to Taco Bell. Yes the beans and rice both taste less fresh than Tacobell(is that's possible?). The only thing I ate that was decent was the Mahi Mahi lunch special. I recommend that you fill yourself up with salsa and chips since they taste far better than the main entries. Please go to 5 de mayo instead. It is not too far from El beso and at least you will get way better service and solid Mexican food. Check out the review I posted on 5 De Mayo as I feel it is a hidden gem. But if you do chose to eat at El Beso than expect to eat something worse than tacobell. I honestly tried to give this place a chance but after 4 bad experiences, I must add it to the list of places I will avoid.

Very good food as soon as we sat down there was chips and salsa on the table instantly we went with a party of 8 and they automatically throw on an 18% gratuity which is expected. When the bill came it was $222 the waitress was not willing to split the bill between the group. I spoke with the manager after we payed and let him know that it is upsetting that they would not split the bill and his only response was with a condescending attitude, "What would you like me to do? Our system cant split the bill."

Been to this restaurant one time after moving to the area. The ambiance is a little overwhelming, and it is not the place to go if you are looking for a quiet place to share an intimate meal. The food is delicious. The portions are quite large so be prepared. The margaritas were very good. They also feature a very good selection of tequila. My family and I split an appetizer, one of the queso dips, and each had an entrée... we were stuffed at the end of the meal.. probably a little over-stuffed. The food was very good TexMex. I would go back. I would recommend to a friend, if they did not want to go to downtown Milwaukee for Mexican.

My husband and I have been here a couple of times, usually only when we're hungry and in the area. The restaurant environment is very cute and cozy, even though the eating area is actually very large. We never had any problems with service, our waiters were always attentive in refilling our drinks and replacing our chips/salsa. The food is very tasty, but not our absolute favorites; it's also seems to be slightly pricey compared to other similar restaurants. Definitely a place we return to, but only when in the area.

Good service ...so-so food. House margaritas were yuck unless you added a flavor and blended it. I'm an original on the rocks sorta gal. Had the $5 dollar appetizers. Wings were tasty as was the quesadilla and shrimp, but the servings were small for $5. Server was attentive and quick but the table side birthday celebrations were loud and distracting. Would I return? Only if someone else picked it for girls night.

I love the food here, I've never had a bad experience! I get off work early enough to make the happy hour special, so half off your beer is a great way to start! The margaritas are strong, but good. I definitely recommend getting them on the rocks. Unlimited chips and salsa is always a plus, I like that there are options for hot sauce as well if you don't like mild salsa. I really like the $5 appetizers, I've had both the quesadilla and the nachos avocate, both good value and the avocado/beans/cheese on the tortilla chips makes a great combination! I've had the dinner quesadilla (vegetarian), chicken fajitas, shrimp fajitas, shrimp ceviche, burrito clasico and pretty much all of it comes with rice and beans. Nothing I've had here is bad and the portions are very big, so you'll either leave full (if you're me) or with a second meal (if you eat a little lighter). If you still have room for dessert, leave room for the sopapilla de cheesecake, it's very rich, but great to share if you have someone else who likes cheesecake, strawberries and cinnamon inside a tortilla!

I was expecting mediocre food from this place, but was pleasantly surprised. The salsa an chips they serve are great. A good hearty salsa with a nice spicy kick. They keep you topped on up chips very zealously, so there's never a shortage. I had steak tacos... possibly some of the best steak taco's I've ever had. Lime and cilantro, sides of rice and beans. Fantastic flavor, and the portions were massive. I left VERY full. Service was extremely friendly and accommodating, and handled our large group (which they seem to do VERY well) with no problems. What makes it miss that 5th star- The place is very very loud. It's great for kids because of that (they can scream all they want... they'll just fit in with the rest), but for couples, it doesn't particularly make for good conversation. Also, the place is very FULL. I can understand why, but I felt like my chair was butted up against someone else's, and that if I wasn't tucked in at the table, I was in a server's way. Finally, there was one point where my server took my glass to get a refill... and then didn't return for almost 10 minutes. It was busy, so I can understand a little bit, but it does affect my scoring. Other than that, I had a really enjoyable experience. I'd definitely come back!

I have found myself spending some time in this part of the city and looking for a place for some great Mexican fare. El Beso is festive, friendly and a tasty choice. The salsa is delicious and refills are bought without asking, a real plus as I enjoy using any remaining for added sauce on my meal. The Mexican Chopped Salad is unique and delicous. The chicken breast on the salad is bountiful and the dressing worth the calories. I have sat in the bar and main area and like the feel of both. The staff is attentive and accomodating.

Went here over a year ago with my pregnant wife to surprise our parents with the sex of our first child. My wife's chicken chimichanga had a huge, sharp bone in it. When I talked with management they told me that it was due to the authentic Mexican flavor and bones sometimes end up in the food. I literally fell on the floor! We were not even offered a refund or anything. We live in the area and love Mexican food but I'm not willing to sacrifice my family's health to eat here again. I wanted to share this story because I feel like it's important for people to be cautious and for restaurants like this to take better standards in how they prepare their food.

We have been to El Beso several times and they are consistently excellent! :) Great flavors, great atmosphere - especially the outdoor patio- and great service. The food is served piping hot & the guy who refills the tortilla chips is always at the ready. Best chorizo I've ever had!

Great margaritas, I had the 2 meat fajita and was very good, way too much for me to eat myself so I ended taking home half of the entree. Would definitely go back.

I would say the food here is some of the better Mexican food I've had. Seems a little more authentic. If you are a fan of spicy, try the arbol wings! They are my favorite thing to order. Amazing flavor, but HOT. Anything with the arbol sauce is really good. Their tortas, beans, rice and tacos are all outstanding too. The waitstaff is very friendly and accommodating. It has a nicely stocked bar and really good margaritas. Fun atmosphere. Nice outside patio seating for summer.

I'm not one to rip a restaurant to shreds in a review. I understand the tremendous amount of effort and execution it takes to even keep your business operating day to day. However, "El Beso" failed in every aspect. The restaurant is geared towards Americans with no regard for Mexican food. This is evident when you realize the food has no spice. This was true of the beef, chicken, and pork. Mexican food is not inherently spicy food but it is "spiced food". There was a lack of, or total absence of cumin, garlic, black pepper, cayenne, and chili powder. The chimichanga's meat to shell ratio was completely wrong. They had far too much meat. The shell was hardly part of the meal. The cheese had no character. Yes, the cheese was numerous and stretchy but it was flavorless. After a bite or two the entire item fell into disarray. It was like eating a sloppy joe. The ground beef was awful. It had beans and potatoes cooked into it. It was greasy and poorly executed. The pork was without seasoning. The chicken had an inconsistent flavor. Certain bites would yield an acrid taste that completely drowned out any other flavor. The rice was canned and mediocre. The beans suffered the same fate. The side of sour cream was frozen in the middle. The chips and salsa were fine. The decor was typical. It used the "lots of crap on the wall" approach. It was very loud in the restaurant even tucked away in the corner. The server could not have cared less about us. He showed up three times in an hour and fifteen minutes. Once to take the order. Once to bring the drinks out. Once to give us the bill. Our table ordered a root beer. He forgot about it and brought it thirty minutes later after the food and after he was reminded of it. The desert was a piece of store bought cake that had too much sugar to make up for the lack of skill. The entire staff could have cared less about everything. They were so detached and bored. The kitchen is just churning out junk food. Nothing is executed with skill. They just take a bucket of filling, slap it into the middle of a shell. heat and serve. I get a feeling the management has no idea how terrible everything is. They see a profit in the books and assume that means they have a good restaurant. It's just luck and people's lack of culinary knowledge. But, people are not stupid. They are usually slow. This will catch up to them. There has to be oversight and there has to be passion and this place lacks both, overwhelming.

Love the fish tacos. Eating in is fun and festive. A little skimpy with some of the take-out extras, I.e. Hot sauces.

Holy loud! Not just the loudness of the room, the decor. We had reservations made a week in advance. We get in the door, and they made us wait even though there were a lot of empty tables. The margaritas taste like kool aid. After half a pitcher, no buzz. The waiter was attentive, but not overbearing. He was friendly and knowledable. The food was just barely okay. The ground beef tasted like dog food (yes, I have tasted dog food). The pork was okay. The tamale tasted like a corn dog breading. The salsa verde was good. I probably will not be returning.

I would give it 3 stars, my wife and kids would give it 5, so we end up at 4. The food is good and authentic. We love the outdoor seating area - obviously not recently - but in the summer. Their kids meals are huge as are the entrees for the adults. I can eat a lot of food and never leave hungry! I would give it 3 stars because the food doesn't jump out at me as being any better than any other local Mexican restaurant. It is everything you would expect it to be but does not exceed my expectations in any way. My kids would give it 5 stars because they get free popsicles after they eat their meal - a nice touch and the reason our kids are always begging to go back. We love the atmosphere, the service, and the location. We like the food. Thus 4 stars.

Everything was excellent, except I thought it was a bit pricy for what we got. Service was great except thr waitress carrying our glasses by the rim, gross. The bathroom were pretty dirty too. I dont know that I'd go back based on the fact that I wasnt blown away but spent a lot of money.

Excellent food, and friendly staff! It may be a small detail, but they never let you run out of chips nor salsa. Quite impressive in a place that big! Never had a bad dish there yet. I find the staff there more friendly than El Fuego (owned by the same people, on 20th and Layton).

3-1/2 stars is more accurate. Mahi-Mahi tacos for the lady. Shredded pork enchiladas for me. The portion sizes were great, and the flavors were on. Atmosphere is fun and relaxing. Great place to bring a family or a date. The lunch specials were reasonably priced. Overall, I'd return.

Well, what do people typically want in Mexican food? FLAVOR! Unfortunately, it was virtually non existent in the dishes here at El Beso. We had the steak poblano con queso and a chicken and chorizo enchilada. The steak tasted like it hadnt been seasoned at all. It was juicy, but it was also quite tough. The rice and beans were basically consistent with cheaper mexican restaurants in the area, but for 18.95, i would've expected something more, especially since my steak was so lack luster. the chicken and chorizo chimi was OK. it was nothing to write home about. I can say the service was good. We had lots of bartenders ask if we needed anything, and out waitress was very nice, but again, nothing that separates this Mexican restaurant from others in the area. Check out senor sol, its cheaper and you basically get the same thing. I personally wouldnt go back unless my wallet was heavy and was indifferent to what i was eating.

Restaurant Appearance: This place is definitely decorated. What do you expect from the owners. Did you not see how OMEGA looks? I think they could use half of the things on the wall and apply it to another restaurant. But I don't think they should mirror this restaurant by any means. The tables were very close together and not very large. My chair was wobbly and I couldn't seem to catch a good position sitting the entire time I was there. It was like the chair had one short leg. There was never a greeting when I walked in. Just a person that asked for how many. NO welcome, HI, just a for how many. I understand if it were busy but it was a late 2 pm lunch. They were not busy. Waitress: I was the first to arrive in my party of 6. She came over after 5 minutes and asked for my drink order. I asked for a water. She returned 5 minutes later when the rest of my party showed up. She welcomed us and got the rest of the drink order. Came back 5 minutes later with waters and a pitcher of the house margarita. We asked just for another minute to look over the menu. She returned about 5 minutes later again. We requested one appetizer and all ordered off the lunch menu besides one who informed our waiter she had stopped for one drink and would be on her way. So which made us a party of 5 in less than 20 minutes. The appetizer and food was taking pretty long and by this time another one from the party had to leave to get to work on time. Asked for hers to be boxed and then said she would box it herself to make it easier. The server than asks what she ordered and said " That will be OK, I haven't even put the food in yet." Why after 30 minutes is my food not in? And where is the appetizer? Needless to say my friend left without her food. So here comes the app: We ordered the queso appetizer which was served with tortillas. Although its supposed to be served hot I don't think it was served to temp since it turned into a rubber mound of cheese before it made it around the table. Chips: They came fast and were really good. I feel like that's all I ate since I was so hungry and they can refill those faster than you can get service or kitchen food. I can see where people feel like they refill the chips a lot but I'm glad someone was attentive. Food: The food came out warm and to order . Nothing was missing or wrong. Kudos to that. It was the timing. So late I was done with my dinning experience. I filled up on chips and salsa and rubber cheese. If I could have sent it back I would have. Just due to the fact it took so long and I just really didn't need it. I did try the beans and they reminded me of beans from a can. No taste. No spice. I didn't care for the bland ground beef enchilada. The tostada was mediocre. The store bought shell didn't impress me. The only thing our server was conscious of was bringing us boxes and the bill. She made it clear she was doing us a favor and being generous of not putting gratuity on the bill. OK, yes 6 people did start there however 1 had a margarita and left didn't eat food, the other poor girl had to leave and didn't even get to eat her food that she did pay for and well you sucked at the rest of your job. I guess it bothers me more since she said she has been perfecting serving for over 20 yrs. 20 yrs as a server? You should have been better. Needless to say her compensation wasn't great. I feel bad saying that but I along with 4 others at the table are in the service industry and this experience was ridiculous. If I ever go back, I will request I don't sit in her section. Better yet I heard the bar is better to sit at.

Our favorite Mexican. Get the chicken as your choice of meat. Fast service, great chips and happy hour drinks until 6 any day of the week. Expect a wait Friday and Saturday. Not always consistent in quality.

  • Matt C.

Ok. So I have eaten here many time since they opened up in the former Champps building, and have never been disappointed nor overly impressed. That was until last Friday when we ate there. I will NOT be returning. Time for an explanation I suppose. I had always been tolerant of the place since I think they have a great happy hour and they keep you supplied with chips and salsa. However the last few times I noticed that the food seemed to be slipping in quality. It started with the salsa not tasting as fresh as it used to. Then in was the chips. Different vendor maybe? Don't know, just not the same. The Margarita's are still fine, but then you really have to go out of your way to mess one up. Once we were seated after a not too long wait at the bar, (any wait at a bar is ok with me) we were seated and the waiter came by right away. No knocks on the staff. They are top notch. We ordered and the food arrived quickly. Maybe too quickly. Can't tell you what we all ordered as it didn't matter. It all looked as if it was thrown on the plate and sent out fast. Taste was ok at best. This is where I used to think they excelled. Not anymore. The slide has been gradual, but noticeable. My rice tasted, and worse yet, smelled like the inside of a tin can. This is a sad development. I really enjoy their outdoor patio for the summer. It is large and festive. Great place to hang out after work for drinks with friends. I will miss this. I may go JUST for the patio, who knows. Have I mentioned the décor? No? Well........what can be said. This was always the thing that bothered me the most. I swear that it was decorated by immigrant workers forced to take hits of acid and given lots of dark and bright paint and a truck load of Spanish 'Decorations'. I always get slightly dizzy from the loud, dizzying, eclectic Spanish nightmare décor. I know this is sorta nit picking, but it really has to be seen to be believed. So can I recommend it? For drinks and happy hour - Yes. For great, attentive service - Yes. For great food - No.

First thing you notice here is the over the top decor. But it is liveable, not a huge deal. The all you can eat chips and salsa was amazing. Very good and very attentive service with offering more and taking care of water. The main course I had a veggie fajitas. These were not good at all. Everything tasted like it came out of a can, no flavors were coming through, it all just tasted bland. I paid extra for mushrooms and they were cold and just poured ontop out of a can. Very disappointing and very unhappy about it. I will not be eating here again.

Excellent food, fun vibe, great decor-- just an all around great experience. Chips and salsa are a staple in Mexican restaurants, and El Beso flourishes in this aspect. The chip servers are very attentive and will fill up your basket whenever it starts to get low. I come here about once a week and always have the chicken fajitas, they are just that good. Also, if you like spicy, try the Arbol sauce. It is homemade daily, and it is one of the best hot salsas I have ever tried. Service is always very attentive and friendly -- you really can't go wrong.

Yesterday while at work, some of my co-workers were chatting about how good this place is. Never having been there, and being a fan of Mexican food, my interest (and curiosity) were peaked! So, I wasted no time when a friend asked me if I wanted to meet there for dinner! We met around 7:30 and were seated immediately - the hostess had no qualms about moving us to a table other than the high-top table she was originally going to seat us at, always a plus in my book! (What can I say, I'm a sucker for a booth!) Our waiter came over right away with chips & salsa and took our drink order. The margs came out quickly and were QUITE tasty - one of the best I've had in a while - but certainly quite potent (not that that's a bad thing!). The salsa was also delicious - and I'm a salsa snob! Their salsa is the perfect consistency, and has just the right amount of 'zing' to it! We placed our order and both ended up ordering off the a la carte menu ... I got a chicken taco, and a chicken chimichanga. I dove into my taco first but ultimately wish I would have saved it for last because it was SO good. Honestly, the best taco I've had in a long time - the chicken was delicious! I was anxious to try my chimichanga since it was also chicken, I thought it would be just as good. Sadly, I was wrong, and ended up being quite disappointed. There was a TON of chicken in that chimi, but it lacked cheese, and flavor. It was sadly dry and kinda flavorless. I tried to spice it up with some of the salsa from the table but it just wasn't doing it for me. The atmosphere inside is also really cool, and there is no shortage of things to look at! Will I go back? Absolutely. Will I get more tacos next time and nix the chimichanga?! You betcha!

I had dinner here a few nights ago and was pretty impressed. They have a large Menu that is obviously designed to be friendly to the average American palate. They do have a few items for more adventurous diners or those looking for something more authentic. Since it was my first visit and I was having trouble deciding, I chose the Number 2 Combination Dinner. It came with a Shredded Pork Sope, Beef Taco, Chorizo Enchilada, Rice and Beans. The Sope was similar to a Tostada but with a thicker, softer and better Tortilla. The Shredded Pork was wonderfully tender and flavorful. My Enchilada was stuffed with a great spicy ground Chorizo and covered a nice red sauce and tons of cheese. The best part of the Taco was the soft Corn Tortilla that surrounded the bland ground beef and normal toppings. The Rice and Beans were your typical sides found at any Tex-Mex Restaurant. I mixed them together and added the salsa on the table to create a much better side dish. I got there in time for happy hour, so I ordered a house Margarita. It was ok, but I was very impressed with My second Margarita which I had made with Cabo Wabo Milenio Tequila and Gran Gala Orange Liqueur. This was one of the best Margaritas I've had and I've had quite a few! The Restaurant is very wheelchair friendly and service was excellent!

I can't recommend this restraunt any more highly. My husband and i have been regulars over the last two years and it is our favorite restaurant in all of Milwaukee. We've yet to have a negative experience regarding any aspect of our time here in the dozens of times we've gone. Some dishes are pricey, but honestly worth it. However my usual is the affordable (under $10) huevos con chorizo which is mouth watering and part of their all day breakfast menu. My husband's "usual" is always the burritos. Again, we do switch it up and alternate new dishes and specials as well to have a good "flavor" for the restaurant. Waiters and waitresses have always been polite, timely, and in most cases personable. Margaritas are also among the best I've had anywhere. Subtle alcohol flavor, pleasantly salted, and comes in a variety of flavors. The best is still the regular. Two glasses is just right for you to be amazed at the focus it takes to stand up and walk to the door when you leave. I know not all people do, but i do enjoy the decor. I have to also say that we've never waited more than 20 min. Even on busy Friday nights. There is usually so much seating in the place, they can seat you quickly if not immediately. We agree that El Beso is... How you say? Ah, yes! THE BEST! We love it and come back again and again!

Awesome burrito supreme as it's smothers in Mexican cheese! The chips and salsa are fresh and never-ending! Plenty of seating (indoor & outdoor).

El Beso never disappoints. The service is excellent. Always seated right away and the servers are friendly and provide great customer service. And the food.... Beyond delicious. I have never had anything I didn't like. Tried the pollo poblano today. It was melt in your mouth amazing. If you haven't tried this gem stop on in you won't be disappointed.

We always plan our visits so that we hit happy hour. Margaritas here are delish and you can't beat half price. Everything I've ordered has been delicious, with the chimichangas being my favorite. Their beans and rice are the best, of all Mexican restaurants in the area. Service is always extremely fast and the portions are large enough that I always have a second meal for lunch the next day. The waiters are always very friendly, and you will never run out of chips and salsa...there is always someone waiting to refill empty bowls. The only downside to this restaurant is that it is pretty loud. It seemed like there were birthday celebrations happening every 10 minutes, with all of the wait staff singing and clapping. However, if you can overlook that, it is right next to Southridge, Half Price Books, Penzy's Spices, and tons of other places for shopping.

The two stars is related to value. Nothing special about this Mexican restaurant. The atmosphere when I went was loud and 'good timey'. Lots of work/b-day parties on a thurs about 6pm. There really is not much to say about the food other than it is standard. The portions were fairly large, although 1/2 my large oval plate was R&B - way too much of it for my tastes. Two marg's, one iced tea, gauc app and 2 taco entrees (each with 3 tacos each and the mountain of R&B) added up to $60. There are many other less expensive options that serve the exact same food. So we probably will not be back. I will note that the service was very good, the waiter attentive and friendly.

Another Mexican restaurant? This review will be simple. This is a typical Mexican eatery. Nothing special, nothing new. I ordered the chicken fajitas and they were OK. I was charged for every single condiment that was not included such as: cheese and lettuce. That sucked! The decor is exactly what you would think a Mexican eatery would look like. Now close your eyes and think of a Mexican eatery's think of what it looks like in your head.....boom! you have El Beso!. The location is in competition with other eateries such as Ruby Tuesdays, Old Country Buffet, and Red Robin and not to mention the food court of south ridge. With that being said they need to do something to set themselves apart from the other place's they don't do. If you want Mexican food trust your gut and go with a smaller or better know place....i hate the lets ride the Mexican themed trend. Authentic this is not....:(

Visited El Beso one Saturday afternoon to help satisfy a Mexican craving and we happened to be in the area. Saw it got some mixed reviews here... but overall I thought the service was spot on. We sat at the bar and got really great attention. And it didn't cross that line to "over eager". The server was very helpful in suggesting her favorites... she offered us many different hot sauces and salsa (the Green Salsa is quite tasty), and was keen to ring up our margaritas a bit later in our meal so we'd be able to get the Happy Hour Price. I got the bean burrito - and it was really nothing to describe in great detail. It certainly satisfied that craving I had. What made this trip so memorable was the service. Thanks whoever you were working behind the bar - I will be back!

Whether we come with a group, for happy hour or dinner with the family, it's really become our favorite Mexican restaurant in town. The desserts are fantastic and we love any place that keeps good food coming fast and fresh. We've had nothing but good experiences and we will come back every time we want Mexican.

We were totally disappointed in El Beso...The food was good. Our waitress was good...But, the large, drunken, cursing and yelling group we were seated next to kinda ruined the whole evening for us. Oh yeah, did I mention that we were at El Beso with our young daughter? Hey, I like to have a good time as much as the next guy. But in a public restaurant yelling as loudly as you can and cursing loudly simply isn't acceptable. And, if you manage a restaurant and do nothing to quiet folks down who are clearly out of control...you may want to rethink your line of work. I also really felt sorry for our waitress. When I initially complained to her about the noise she did go and try to find someone to take care of it. When things only grew louder, we decided to take what was left of our food and go home. As I was leaving I asked to speak with a manager. When I explained my disappointment to the manager my jaw nearly hit the floor when he asked me what he was supposed to do about it...and told me that next time if it was too noisy I should just get my food to go. Guess what...there won't be a next time for us.

Great happy hour margaritas! I filled up on their chips and salsa before ordering but still managed to have a bean tostada and rice which was delish. I wish they had home made chips though rather than the store bought chips they use. Great atmosphere and of course they had a little mariachi band playing music around different tables.

Everyone gets a star just for being there. The other star is because it's an interesting place in terms of decor. It's vibrant and has a fun vibe to it. Now that we have that out of the way the rest is down hill. They were far too persistent with the chips and salsa. I think we were given 3 bowls before we ordered. 1 was plenty and the poor chips guy dumped the third basket all over our table. I appreciate that he was attempting to be thorough and attentive but there comes a point where you transition from thorough to annoying. While eating the chips my wife noticed a server come over to the bar with a couple of margarita's from a table. Perhaps they were the wrong ones? We watched as the server talked with the bartender and the margarita's were poured back into the machine. I don't know why anyone thought this was acceptable. Recycling these drinks doesn't look good. Is my salsa recycled from other tables? These types of events only triggered more questions. Our server was moderate. Just the basics: Introduction, take the order, deliver the food. It never felt as though it was personal interaction. It was the bare minimum that someone has to do. Finally the food. A problem that plagues many Mexican restaurants is subpar food. If I ever for one moment think that I can make the meal myself it virtually guarantees that I will never be back. I like cooking, I am usually aware what products cost and about where a meal should be at for price. What am I paying here for exactly? A neat paint job inside? The first couple of gripes are solved with a staff change and better advisement on how to handle things. Have the chips guy lay off the caffeine, tell the servers to pretend to care and hire bartenders that know better. Nail those and it may merit an extra star to reach the great heights of mediocre. The food was a little lackluster and something I wouldn't expect to change. But hey this place has some hype because of how it is presented. It's pretty much a Jose's Blue Sombrero Jr minus the semi decent menu. A lot of people will get pumped at a semi authentic Mexican restaurant where they can have their margarita's taint their palate to mask the average food they are getting. The beauty of the alcohol is tequila has a tendency to make you not care and make you feel like you are enjoying yourself when you'd be more critical otherwise. There are other options peppered about our city. Seek them out!

"My 1st time at El Beso. There is a lot to like. Arrived around 5:30 on a Friday. Table for 2 - no problem. Chips and salsa dropped off immediately. Waiter was by within a minute. I ordered the tostadas with an cheese enchilada ala cart. Colleen had the chicken chimichangas. Both dinners were more then we could eat. Food is comparable to El Fuego, I still prefer Lil Cancun but El Beso fine so far. Arrived during happy hour so the 1st drink was reasonable. Had another drink and the price doubled. Will have to go back and try another menu item and sample some margaritas.

I've been on a bit of a mexican food kick lately, and stopped in here for a late lunch. I really enjoyed the salsa options. If i remember correctly i ordered a shrimp dish, and i remember saying several times it was great! I don't often think of the Southridge area for dining options (honestly, i try not to think of that area in general). But i know next time i go to JoAnn Fabrics i'll be stopping in at El Beso!

I went with a large party last year and was pleased with the service. The male server was very attentive and the food portion was enormous. I had beer, so I can't comment on their mixed drinks at that time. The food was not extraordinary. I had the enchiladas verdes and they were ok. Overall, it was quite overpriced. I again went with a large party this past weekend and I don't think I'll be going back. The female server basically took our order, dropped off our food and never came back. With a table of 10, we should have been given more attention considering there was no way around the mandatory 18% gratuity. I thought that the margaritas were overpriced and lacking flavor. I shared the chilaquiles with my friend and we were really turned off. Maybe we had too high of expectations since we're both Mexican, but come on. This is a simple meal that was disastrous. I hate to waste, so I brought the leftovers home for my dad and he thought the meal was pretty gross and he is not a picky man at all. I'm sorry, I'm just so sick of disappointing Mexican restaurants. The decor is appealing, but that's about all.

We went for lunch on a Saturday and overall had a great experience. The place was not crowded, so we didn't experience noise problems that other reviewers have encountered. The five of us had different entries: enchiladas, tacos, tostidas and more, and the food was pretty good overall. Not spectacular, but the quality you get at most Mexican restaurants. The ambiance and decor was great. We didn't eat outside, but there was a nice outdoor dining area. Only real criticism is that it took a while for the waitress to take our order, but since we were enjoying drinks and chatting, we really didn't mind the wait.

Friday night Happy hour! Half pitcher of margaritas, chips side-order of guac (not the big serving) shrimp taco (plural) one each for hubby & I (they're loaded). $25.00 :-) We love it. And BTY. They are very friendly and service is fantastic. The food is very good for the price. We've tried to eat traditional mexican and it's aweful. So for what it's worth it's my opinion to give them a try.

Having lived for 15 years in Texas, I'm a harsh critic of Mexican/Tex-Mex cuisine. Whether that's the fajitas, guacamole, chips & salsa, enchiladas - you name it, I have an opinion on it. My friends and I have recently become quite a fan of weekend lunches at El Beso for a few reasons: Pros: First off, on the weekends there's always plenty of space, and we never have to wait for a table. Secondly, they have no problems handling large groups, including their outdoor seating. Second, their chips & salsa is really quite good. In fact, often times I'll wind up with leftovers of my entree because I've gorged on C&S. Third, their lunch menu is delicious, reasonably priced, and portions are quite substantial. Big burritos, fajitas (chicken, steak or shrimp), 2 enchiladas or anything else, usually w/rice & beans, all for $7-10. NOTE: As an aside, this isn't a place where you order fajitas & you get 3 pieces of chicken and a massive amount of peppers/onions. There's always a good supply of protein on the plate. Cons: Their dinner/full menu is way overpriced. Lastly, and it's a big one for larger groups, they don't like to split checks. This often leads to the "who here has cash" discussion & a possible trip to the ATM in the front of the restaurant (and the pricey ATM fee) In review, I recommend El Beso, but go for lunch & save a few bucks.

I've gone here twice. The first time the service was great, the second time it was horrible, but a nice server... The food is, you know, American Mex, of course. The Margaritas, delish. Second time at El Beso was prompt seating then downhill service from there. It was packed for 7:30pm on a Tuesday night, so maybe that was the reasoning. My friend and I were meeting a mutual friend who currently lives in Arizona for some catching up, so we werent too focused on how long things were taking. Our first and second margaritas were both melted by the time of arrival and the lapse between necessary 'check-ins' were outrageous. 'I'll be right with you' (where one would think a min or two) turned into 5+ minutes. But, who's counting. So food, pretty good. Atmosphere, high five on who ever their decorator is. Margs, I'll take another. And minus that only negative I could find about service, I'll most definitely go back.

Let me just say that if you read Nicholas H.'s review, just put my name at the top and that is my general opinion of El Beso (Nick and I go way back. WAAAYY back. We think alike on these things.). I went for a family dinner, and the service was very good but everything else was tiresome. Kids would love this place. I walked around with my 18 month old niece and she absolutely loved looking at all the stuff on the walls. The staff doted on her and that was very nice. I had some steak tacos and they were pretty bland. My folks absolutely love their Enchiladas Verdes, and they are fans of the place in general. The space is nice, clean but it feels like a latin influenced TGI Fridays with all the crazy crap on the walls. I'll probably be back at some point, but it will not be of my own volition.

This is one of the most beautiful restaurants I have ever been too. I come with my friends for happy hour during the week which is an incredible deal. We usually get some delicious apps with our drinks. The other day I came with my family for dinner. We sat in the upper dining room which is gorgeous. We were a demanding party of 5. We all ordered things all across the menu. I had a 3 meat fajita dinner. My mom had their half chicken. My aunt had a combo plate. My sister had a torta that was huge. My brother had the carne asada. It was by far the best experience, from the outstanding authentic entrees to the service and what a great value. If u want or crave Mexican this is the best place to be. See u next time.

Very enthusiastic service bordering on annoying. Table wait is long for such a huge place. Late lunch (2:30) on a Wednesday in late December - table for one - had to wait like 10-15 minutes. Prices are high for the quality and the quantity. Seems to be more Tex-Mex. I did enjoy the Posole Chicken soup, but the burrito was disappointing. Won't be back - better Mexican on my side of town. Menu seems to be the same as El Fuego in Milwaukee on Layton Avenue.

3 stars for fun atmosphere, and complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa is tasty for a second helping. You can taste the alcohol in the base margaritas. I always get the base margaritas at Mexican restaurants, and most make them so you can't taste the alcohol and still get a good buzz. In a previous visit, I really liked the chicken quesadilla. I really liked the tilapia El Beso dish at another previous visit. I like it so much that I couldn't wait to have it again. Though this last visit must have been a case of the - go at night when the good chef is working... When my order arrived, the fish looked undercooked. I questioned it, they took it back, and confirmed that indeed it was undercooked. I received the dish again...this time, it looked the same, undercooked. I decided not to say anything and bring it home to finish the job. This visit to get my favorite dish also landed with a bad surprise of too much seasoning salt, and way too much grease...maybe that's why it looked undercooked? To their credit and my appreciation, they did give me a free dessert. I do hope they keep the quality, as the outside atmosphere is really nice, fun, and enjoyable on a weekday night (when it's more relaxing.)

Garbage, absolute garbage. I was originally won over by the owner's other "Mexican" restaurant El Fuego, but after experiencing various other local smaller eateries that place fell to being on par with Taco Bell. My wife's uncle, also a lover of Mexican food, gave the best one word description of El Fuego; McMexican. Sure, you get a lot of food, and its sort of reasonably priced, but its pretty much trash compared to tiny, hole in the wall, genuinely authentic places. Well, El Beso is, more or less the same thing. My wife, my father-in-law and I went there sometime last week and upon leaving all three of us regretted it. We could barely hear our waitress, who was immediately confused when instructed that the drinks were to be put on a separate bill; always a good sign. We ordered an appetizer of one of the nacho plates which was barely better than the platter of plastic cheese you get at Taco Bell. The entrees left all three of us grumbling and regretting every coming. I ordered the steak tacos which contained barely any flavor. The other two entrees, they told me, were equally worthy of a grimace and a groan. The best part of the night was when the band came to our booth and told us they'd play a song for us. My father-in-law asked them to play something traditional, which apparently confused them as they went on to ask for more details about a request; "slow or upbeat?" one asked, we all chose slow. We got the theme from the film Love Story. Avoid at all costs.

Had a route at work that took me right by Southridge every day for a few months and watched this place being built, but then got shuffled around and hadn't been over there to see it completed until a few weeks ago when me and the girl stopped in after doing some early Christmas shopping. The building is just gorgeous, obviously designed from the ground up as a Mexican-themed restaurant. Well, I thought it was neat. She thought it was a bit over-the-top and kitschy, but she is darkness personified and sees the negative in everything. I thought it was swell. The food was really good, we both thought. Chips and salsa are an important part of a Mexican meal and I thought these were only so-so. She's a vege-saurus though and veggie options abound here, so that's always a plus for us. I had the chicken in de arbol sauce, which they warned me was wicked hot. It certainly is. I normally laugh at the spice in Mexican food, being a Thai/Indian afficianado, but this was really hot. Service was extraordinarily good, even on a very busy night. If we didn't have so many options for good Mexican much closer we would go back again without hesitation.

3.5 Stars. 4 stars for the food, 3 for the service. I used to live in Los Angeles, so I'd like to think I've had my fair share of Mexican food. Let's put it this way: this place does the job. Sure, it isn't your best friend Lupe's Grandma's homemade tortillas with beef she got from a cow she owned in her backyard, but why do we feel the need to rate Mexican food based on the pinnacle of your human experience with the taco? I ordered the steak tacos, which came with a side of refried beans and rice. The menu doesn't specify, but you get 3 tacos, which is plenty considering they aren't the palm-sized ones you often get at dirty taco stands in California (oh, how I miss those). They come topped with onions and cilantro and a side of lime. This is a breathe of fresh air to me, seeing as cheddar cheese, iceburg lettuce, and sour cream don't quite scream Mexico to me. The tacos were tasty, as were the sides. The salsa and chips that came out when we sat down were a tad on the cold side, so I give a 'meh' to that. As for my dining experience, the place has some charm. The walls are busy on the eyes, which I didn't mind. I went on a Friday night and expected a wait, but we were seated promptly. It was busy and bustling, but not overbearing. Our waitress seemed a bit out of it. Not for lack of interest, but maybe just not the most articulate gal in the room. "Can I order the queso dip?" "Ok, but just so you know, it's not a dip." "Ok, what is it?" "It has cheese on it, but it's not a cheese dip." "Hmm, a paradoxical Mexican treat. Are the steak tacos beefless?" She giggles and goes on to explain that the "dip" is really just a salsa sprinkled with melted cheese that you pour on tortillas to make your quesidillas, which is not what I had in mind. She then would disappear at times and almost stumble upon my table. She'd have that "oh, I remember this table" look. So, service was less than stellar, but tolerable. Bottom line, this place does the trick if you want Mexican food.

Currently my top Mexican Restaurant in the southern Milwaukee suburbs. The food is served warm and fresh. I usually get a fish dish, so fresh is important. I have not yet experienced a "fishy" flavor. The margaritas are great and there is a great happy hour. The salsa is great and has a hint of mango. The lunch specials are great and very nicely priced. The atmosphere is purely Mexican. They serve a cake and sing for your birthday. They also have mariachis floating from table to table. The patio area is OK but can be loud from the traffic on the other side of the wall!

This is owned by the same guy who owns El Fuego, and they are very similar in atmosphere and menu style. Like El Fuego, El Beso features the fresh market, an outdoor patio, and fun authentic decor. Unlike El Fuego, El Beso has their stereo volume turned up LOUD LOUD LOUD!!! We asked the manager to turn it down and though he seemed to kindly take our request, we didn't notice much of a difference. The food was excellent, though I prefer the menu choices of El Fuego. We shared a margarita pitcher and it was tasty and worth the money spent. The waitstaff was friendly and courteous and the mariachi band was a nice touch-- they sang "The Barney Song" to my friend's baby daughter who joined us that night. Overall, I would say I'd be back but if I have to pick between El Fuego and El Beso, I'm going with El Fuego.

BRING A BOTTLE OF EXCEDRIN WITH YOU! Wow, I did NOT like this place on ANY level! THE LOOK... El Beso is housed in what used to be the former Champs Americana. Upon approaching, we were expecting great things. The outside of the building is overly ornate and colorful, and everything looked very clean. The inside is decorated with the same tacky colors in designs made to look like tile work. There are plenty of fake "artifacts" and an abundance of cacti (odd) surrounding a resin fountain that is in the lobby area. Imagine that Sherwin Williams himself visited this place and opted to eat a deck of paint color samples instead of their food, and then puked it all over the walls. Yeah, it was that tacky. Not fun, but TACKY. THE WAIT... We were told by the very nice, very tan hostess it would be a fifteen minutes wait. It seemed to take longer and when I glanced at my phone, 40 minutes had transpired. This is a turn off to me. If anything, I'd prefer that a restaurant under promise and over deliver--not the opposite. We were just getting up to leave when all of a sudden a table opened up. Oh, how I wish we would have escaped when we had the chance. THE WAITRESS... This is the weird thing. It wasn't like she was inefficient or nasty. She was just, for lack of a better word, cold. The whole interaction with her was so detached, I can't even articulate it, and I've never experienced anything like this an any restaurant in which I've eaten. It was if she was acutely aware of timing and the fact that she didn't have ANY time to spend with us. The only way I can describe it is to say that it was like she was on a an episode of "Beat the Clock." She didn't tell us her name, or if she did it was so rushed we didn't notice. She didn't even attempt to explain the menu. We were on an assembly line, and she had to get us in and out of there as quickly and efficiently as possible. So bizarre! When we did ask about certain dishes, the answers were concise and not accurate--like she was just placating us to get something written on her order pad. In fact, she started writing stuff down before we actually committed to it. THE CHIP GUYS... These guys were more accommodating than any of the staff. Those baskets were full of chips at all times. One reviewer mentioned she felt it was borderline annoying. I didn't find that to be the case. THE NOISE LEVEL... I am not a sensitive person when it comes to noise. I get maybe two headaches per year, if that. I left El Beso with such a splitting headache, I had to go home take Extra Strength Excedrin, use ice packs, and go to bed. The dining area was like being in the seventh ring of Hell! And when you're feeling nauseated and have a splitting headache, what makes it worse? Loud, bright colors. And they are everywhere. Add to it that TWICE while we were there, they had two birthdays. It sounds innocuous--two birthdays. But not at El Beso! Out come the crew with a giant sombrero and cake, more whistles than used in a Latin parade, maracas, sirens, horns, and then the hollering and singing begins. Not like at TGI Fridays or anywhere else where it's loud but reasonable. The decibels on top of the already loud echoing dining area, and the mariachi music blaring from the loudspeakers, is just inconceivable! I can't emphasize enough the echo factor in this place! Imagine someone putting a metal garbage can over your head and then banging the hell out of it with a dozen clubs. THE FOOD...AND PRICES... We ordered two frozen margaritas ($6.50 ea.), and I finished half before pushing it aside. I had already begun to get visibly sick even before the food came, from the noise. It was like I was schizophrenic and could hear countless voices at once. The drinks were typical, actually good. I wish I could have enjoyed mine. I noticed my dining companion left half of his behind also, and this never happens. If you don't like Chihuahua cheese, you will not like El Beso. It is on EVERYTHING! i had the plate with Three Cheese and Onion Enchiladas with Mole Sauce. You could also order them with just cheese. How disappointed was I when they arrived with raw onions tossed on top instead of cooked into the enchiladas? Yuck! The plate was $12.95 and came with rice and beans, a tomato, and some iceberg lettuce. I was so sick by the time the food came, that I ate one half an enchilada and a few grains of rice with each bite. 90% of the meal was left uneaten and I din't take it to go. The loud noise, the bright colors, the margarita and chips, and now this dish with the distinct overbearing flavor of Chihuahua cheese...blghh, puke...it was too much. My dining companion ordered the Shrimp Fajitas. First, I'd like to mention the ridiculous price of $20.95 for this dinner. Adding insult to injury, if you want guacamole with the fajitas, it is an additional $3 here where it is standard anywhere else. Are you freakin' kidding? NEVER AGAIN! One lone star for the place that gave me a migraine!

This place pretty much sucks. I went with my parents for father's day and besides the nice decore and cleanliness (which shouldn't impress anyone) the service was poor in the sense Pablo, our crackhead waiter, wouldn't take our order after we tried to give it to him 3 times. It seemed he was busy covering a lot of tables and we weren't in too much of a hurry, but I'd to at least get my order in prior to hitting the 30 minute mark. Especially since there were like 6 senioritas just standing around doing nothing. He would just come past, make a statement like, "good salsa, huh?" and run away before we could even offer an answer. The margaritias are very expensive and mostly water. He talked us into getting the top shelf tiquila because there was some deal where you get t-shirt. Yay, a t-shirt... not worth it. I'm not sure why I ever order pitchers of margaritas anyway, they are kinda of a rip off for $28 a pop. The food was below average for mexican; which I never understand because it seems like a very simple style of food to execute. I had a tostada and the shell tasted stale and the pork was dry. I couldnt even eat my chimmichanga because I had filled up on the 4 baskets of chips and slasa we got before our entrees. We were seated in the corner and there was a family with a small child who would not stop screaming and banging plates. After about the 9th loud crash my mom turned around which enraged the child's father who began yelling "he just one boy!" over and over. I think this may have been the only english sentence he knew because when I told him to shut up and turn back around he just mumbled something in spanish. He clearly wanted to fight, but we were literally in the middle of paying out bill... at which time Pablo was attentive and hovored around our table until it was signed. I only mention the above incident because the environment is very loud and hectic and people's tempers were flaring a bit. All in all, I have no reason to ever go back to ths place.

First time visit last week and I really liked the decor and the set up. Very hip and trendy. I felt the prices were on the high end but you do get a lot of food and it is very good. Had 1/2 pitcher of Margaritas and they were good too, left me wanting more! Had the fajitas and wow, a ton of food, brought the rest home for a whole other meal, you would have thought I didn't eat any of it the first time there was so much left. I would go back and liked what I had, the prices may keep me from going too often though.

I had the honor of being a part of their Ribbon Cutting/Soft Opening held for members of the Greenfield Chamber of Commerce and various City of Greenfield Officials yesterday. El Beso's opening has been one of the most anticipated openings in our city and they did not disappoint :) In spite of its location, the restaurant is not hard to find. Their use of vibrant colors and detailed exterior facades transports me back to Mexico! I can't wait to be sitting on their patio, sipping their Berry Mojitos! Inside, it is a feast for the eyes and senses as soon as you walk through the door from the aroma of Mexican cuisine wafting from the kitchen to the fabulous, hand - painted decor that surrounds you. The staff and management exude their pride and excitement of their restaurant. Their time and efforts most evident in their intimate knowledge of the entire menu and specialty drinks. Our table enjoyed a few of their signature drinks: El Beso Fizz, Berry Mojito and a couple of Mai Tais. We started off with a huge helping of their Guacamole and chips. From my Mahi Mahi Mojo de Ajo - I hope that's how it's spelled - to my guests' Chimichango, Shrimp Soup and Mahi Mahi Enchiladas - MUY MUY BUENO!!!! Of course, we somehow found enough room to split a variety of desserts made in - house; of which their names escape me! But, I'm going back again TODAY, LOL, and I'll post it. You have got to add El Beso to your list of must - dos SOON!

My husband and I went here for lunch while out shopping. It got some mixed reviews, but we decided to give it a try with low expectations. The place is very big inside. The atmosphere was fun, very colorful. Ther servers were pretty good. I ordered an iced green tea with mint, and it was very good. I did have to wait longer than what I would've liked for a refill. My husband got a margarita which was very yummy and had a good amt of alcohol, but not so much that it tasted bad. I got a sampler platter that was good, lots of food! I couldn't finish it. My husband couldn't finish his meal either. Portions are huge, but the food was much better than we expected. I would recommend it.

Holy loudest restaurant I've ever been to. There were 2 birthdays that happened around our table and everyone was yelling the whole time. The decor is sort of cool, almost like the restaurant in the Mexican portion of the Epcot center. The margaritas are expensive and mostly water, just like the salsa. The menu is definitely geared towards families because there is a whole page of burgers. I wanted to try a few things on the menu so I tried to order a Chorizo taco and was told the only cheese they have is mozzarella and if I wanted even just a topping of cilantro and onion it would cost extra. Everything on this menu is expensive. $4.50 for a Tecate? I also tried the pork tamal and the masa was super thin and the pork was dried out. The steak tacos were the best thing that I tried and a plus is that if you get avocado, they give you plenty. The other plus is that the service is very fast and they make sure you have chips, salsa and drinks all the time. Overall I would not go again.

"This is so good it's ridiculous!" These were the exact words of my daughter on our most recent visit. "This is so good it's ridiculous!" and I too agree. I have come to El Beso on three separate occasions and each time this restaurant has knocked me and my guess out. First the decor, WOW! I can only compare this to some place you might find in Disney World. Yeah I know what your saying c'mon it's not that good. Well the only things missing is a mariachi band and a boat ride. Trust me you will love it! Then the food. Oh my sweet little baby Jesus the food. Everything you order is hot, fresh, and full sized. Average time from order to delivery 5 minutes. You can't go wrong with these place and if you're taking that special someone they will not forget this experience. Finally the service. These guys are hoping let me tell you. When you hit the door your greeted with a smile and warmth that says welcome to Mexico. The wait staff is extremely attentive and you will never run out of chips and salsa. If you're looking for a full Mexican experience this is your place. El Beso is my only place for Mexican food now PERIOD!

I've been here several times now and haven't been disappointed. The food is great and they get a bit more adventurous with their menu so you don't just see the boring tacos, burritos, enchiladas etc. Service has always been spot-on and if I had to complain about something it would probably be that prices are a bit more expensive than other Mexican restaurants. Food portions and quality help offset that cost though. The place is also decorated brilliantly.

Went to this restaurant recently and got very sick after we left. Friends have said the same. Food is not good compared to other competitors in town.

Let me break down El Beso. If you live in the Greenfield, Greendale, or Franklin areas El Beso offers over priced subpar Americanized Mexican food in a ridiculously loud and extremely cheesy atmosphere. The good news is these suburbanites dont have to drive outside of their comfort sones to those "seedy" areas like 4th and National(cough:sarcasm*) to get fantastic authentic Mexican food. Which is why El Beso can charge $18 for fajitas. Skip it.

A bit over priced. Fun atmosphere.

Ah yes, I love my margarita's, and this place serves them up good. The only problem is the price. A pitcher of margarita mix ran me over $30, but I felt a good buzz when I left, so it was worth it. The food is also delicious, I ordered a burrito that was the size of my head, and my wife ordered a spicy shrimp dish that came with fajita shells, also very good. I also enjoyed the atmosphere of this place, whoever did the painting a decorating, have a margarita on me, well done. We use to come to this building when it was Champs Americana, and you wouldn't even know that place ever existed when you walk in there. I would give this 5 stars if it wasn't for the price. We took our family of 4 and went with another couple, and our bill was $200.00. A bit pricey for today's economic times. But we will be back for the good food and drinks.

When I was a kid, this building was a Fudruckers. I absolutely loved going there with my dad so when it closed down, I was quite sad. in between it being Fudruckers and El Beso it was quite a few different businesses with one common denominator. All were terrible. So of course none of them lasted. Then came El Beso. El Beso is owned by the same people who own El Fuego. So quality is not really an issue. I have to say, I am impressed. The first thing you notice is what they did with the building. It is simply beautiful. It's very busy, but beautiful. So if lots of stuff on the walls bothers you, don't go here. But you can tell a lot of money was spent, a whole bucket of cash. Service was good. I didn't have any drinks, but the menu prices seemed in line with what I'd expect to pay for a good margarita. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the dish I ordered, but it was essentially steak, Chihuahua cheese, and poblano peppers with flour tortillas. I thought it was a little pricey at like $16 but it was fantastic tasting. I have no hesitation about ordering it again and plan to do so. For two at lunch time, our bill came out to roughly 40 dollars with tip. Not bad for dinner, but a little pricey for lunch. I confess though I didn't see a lunch menu so it's possible I just missed it. Oh well.

Quality and quantity! The fajitas were delicious. The chicken enchiladas had a light, delicious salsa verde and the chicken was stewed and very tasty. Something as simple as rice and refried beans were absolutely terrific. The architecture and decor was tremendous. The dining room is super noisy but the service is fast and that was even with a full dining room and people waiting in the lobby. The prices were high-ish. The homemade salsa tastes so good. You will be tempted to fill up on chips. Resist the chips or you'll need to be rolled from the table out to your car!

The salsa was good, but not enough. the server was decent for being busy on a friday. I got a spicy steak dish. it was pretty good, but you should be warned. every little thing is an up charge. sour cream, guac, jalapenos. (SRSLY). I could see myself back here if i had date or something. I know its just me right but don't more restaurants need to require patrons less "casual" dining. you are going out in public for all to see. please wear a collar. and not a 4 year old t-shirt.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
