Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I have been here three times. The first time I found the food to be good and the prices were decent. The second time was much like the first time. The most recent time (about a month ago) was awful. We came in at 8:30 (they close at 10) and the greeter made us feel like it was an inconvenience for us coming into an almost empty restaurant. The service was slow. The food was disappointing. Towards the end of the service we were practically pushed out of the place (the owners wife asked us to help her bus the table, even though we hadn't indicated that we were ready for our check). There are better Mexican food options in town. It is unfortunate because the owner is a very nice person.

Sombrero's caters for the company I work for once a week. So far I have not had good experiences with them. I've had their food on several occasions and it lacks flavor. I've tried the chicken and beef and they are practically tasteless. Today I went to go get a meal and the two young girls behind the counter were busy showing each other things on their phones while I stood there waiting. Overall I've never had a good experience. I've tried everything they offer for catering hoping I would find something good. Alas, nothing is good. Hopefully the actual restaurant is better.

If you want somewhere that charges $.75 per basket of chips and salsa, only gives you 1 refill of soda before charging you again, or a condescending owner that tells you that other parts of the country serve Mexican food wrong because "that's not how we serve it in Wisconsin"...then THIS is your place to eat. This may all sound like it surely can't be true, especially in the Midwest....sounds more like the East Coast right? But I assure you what I say is true. Check out their menu, in the top left corner it states "only 1 refill" under the soda. And on the bottom left of the menu it states "every basket of chips and salsa after the first one is $.75". I asked the owner about it and she said "you'll find that's the way everyone around here does it....you must not be from around here"......really? I am from Central Illinois...far from anywhere foreign....or even culturally different than Central Wisconsin. What kind of response is that from a business OWNER??!!!! I'm not going to just continue bashing/complaining......i'll let mine and other patrons dollars do the talking...on the couple nights I have been by there and the one night I went there....there have never been more than 2 cars in the parking lot at prime (6-730pm) dinner time. I almost always go by the old adage of judging how good a restaurant is by how many cars are in the parking lot....once again it proves right. Try the Mazlatan Mexican Restaurant downtown Fond Du Lac...much better and i ate 4 baskets of chips for FREE!!!!

Heading up Highway 41 through Fond Du Lac, there aren't alot of Mexican food choices (other than fast food) but this place is not bad. As other Yelpers have noted, the food is OK. Some of our meals have been good while others are just OK so I give it three stars because we really haven't had a bad meal and the service has been acceptable. We've stopped here a couple of times on our way to and from up north Wisconsin and will continue to keep it on our list.

Poor customer service- unreasonable prices. Owner claims that " my husband and I are the owners, and he's Mexican, so the menu is authentic. By the way, he is from Rockford, IL." Ps ONLY THE FIRST BASKET OF CHIPS/SALSA IS FREE! Any additional basket is $.75 To top it off.. Only ONE REFILL for fountain soda pop! We were rudely talked at- and the owner was dripping with attitude as we inquired about items on the menu. Her solution for us struggling with selecting a meal was, " you must not be from around here?" what difference does that make?!? Needless to say, We didn't Stay.

Food is OK. It is not authentic, but few places are. However it is not even Tex-Mex. . . More like Wis-Mex. Lots of dishes with mushrooms and melted mild cheddar on them. Flavor is just OK - definitely a bit bland for Mexican food. You don't have to be spicy to be flavorful. If you want food "inspired" by Mexico come here - it is fine, clean and good drinks. Looking for something to satisfy your Mexican food craving? Keep looking - you won't find it here. If you end up here because your brother-in-law says it is wonderful - ask for the hotter sauce to dump into the fresh salsa.

Great food and customer service. Very clean and welcoming, definitely the place to go for Mexican- American food anywhere around Fond du Lac area.

Love it! We go there on a weekly basis. Great staff, service, food and drinks! Reasonable prices. Menu has a variety of choices for kids. The chips and salsa are great. Not sure how many baskets I'd need, I go there for lunch or dinner not for the free stuff. 1 basket is more than enough for a family of 4. Go check it out!
