I have never been disappointed at this Eau Claire staple. There are only a handful of restaurants that have been around since Tokyo has opened: Fanny Hill... Well actually, that's the only one I can think of off the top of my head. That alone should represent its reputation. Every single item on their menu is prepared with the utmost care and delicacy. I cannot praise this place enough, because I am not capable I doing it justice. All I can say is that if you haven't been, make it a priority.

Tokyo is a great place to go with friends and experience the art of tepanyaki while enjoying a delicious array of Japanese foods. You may end up sitting next to some people you've never met before, but that is the beauty of this place. They also have a way of preparing shrimp that is so tender and savory, you won't regret ordering it (like I do) every single time.

We got the dinner special that includes soup salad and the dinner with two meat choices. The soup was so good! The salad wasn't the greatest. It was a boring salad and the dressing they put on was not my taste. The food itself was pretty typical but our chef was super nice. He was interacting with us so it made the experience less awkward. The woman who was refilling our drinks and rice was beyond nice and overall it was enjoyable and if I was in the area I would definitely check it out. The only downside is it can get kind of pricey but it's worth it on occasion.

This tepanyaki restaurant is very authentic Japanese style. They provide local beer as well as Japanese beers (Kirin, Sapporo and Asahi ) . The food is well made...meats are really juicy and delicious! Definitely a great choice if you want to experience tepanyaki style Japanese food.

The best. Period Also best shrimp in town with the mustard sauce!

I have tried various Japanese restaurants at many different locations and nobody can touch Tokyo here in Eau Claire. The best ever! Order the Special Dinner for two!

Best hibachi in town. Love the ginger salad dressing and they have the best shrimp I've ever had! The hibachi chefs are wonderful and kind.

We've only been to Tokyo for lunch, but it's enough to make me wish they served lunch everyday and that had the same menu for dinner too. Try the gyoza, the beef teriyaki, the donburi bowls, or just about anything! The udon is excellent on a chilly day. Very authentic and delicious, in a spare but lovely atmosphere.

So this place is misleading.... while sitting at the grill and watching them prepare tiny frozen shrimp is cool there is nothing great about any of the food. The shrimp are tiny popcorn shrimp with little flavor. The salad is has far too much acid in it. The miso soup is the same as from the asian store in the package. This is not a Sushi place so dont expect that. While it was interesting meeting new people seated next to me... i go to a place for good food and really I wont be back based on the boring food.

Food was great! Shrimp and steak were amazing. We really enjoyed this place. It was very friendly and we will go back soon. Thanks Yelp for helping us find this little gem.

Eau Claire's answer to Benihana. The food was great and there were plenty of choices (even healthy ones - I had shrimp and steamed rice.) There were kids and families everywhere which was nice to see. The staff was extremely nice, and even though I was only a party of 1 - they were very accommodating. If I ever roll through Eau Claire again, I will definitely stop by.

After reading glowing reviews here, I decided to give Tokyo a shot. BTW I'm new to town. We went there after Thanksgiving around 8.30pm and our group was the only one there. Unlike the other reviewers, I was not impressed by the food at all. To add to the mediocre taste, I was quite disappointed to find that the fried rice was not prepared on the grill. Oh well I thought until our waitress brought the fried rice in the bowls for us from inside, it was very evident that it had been cooked hours before and sitting there - very bland. I mean it doesn't take much to prepare fried rice. It takes me no more than 15 minutes with cooked rice when I do it at home from scratch. In a hot work, anything but 5 mins. And they charge extra for it. Not sure if they did this because they were about to close or what. Will not be venturing out to this Teppenyaki grill again.

I would rather go here than Fuji Steakhouse. It's been here for years. So what if the decor is a little out of date; the food is amazing and so is the service. My husband and I gladly shell out $50 for a meal here. These people know what they are doing!

My family drives 1 hr and 15 minutes to eat at Tokyo. The food is that good. We have tried many teppanyaki restaurants over the years- nothing compares. Steak, shrimp, chicken- just top quality food. Even our kids who are super picky love it!

This is your classic Teppanyaki (seated around griddle where the chef entertains and cooks) eatery. The food is FABULOUS is well priced for the quality. Atmosphere could improve though and as a result you will get a mix of casual and dressy customers. The griddle tables seat about 8 so a great place for a group to go to talk and enjoy the food and little cooking.

Have loved Teppanyaki since I was a young teen in the SF Bay Area some 30 years ago, and in all my days and all my travels I have yet to find a place that makes better food. Yes, their ambiance is old and in need of repair in some places, the plates are heavy ceramic and are I'm sure sterilized in the dishwasher but don't appear stained to me (as one other review complained about). They could use an interior designer to come in and help - but oh WOW do I LOVE their food!!!! Based purely on the food this is THE BEST Japanese restaurant in Eau Claire, and quite possibly everywhere else as well. We've traveled extensively in Hawaii, California, Arizona, Washington state, Colorado, Oregon, Florida, Minnesota... and nowhere else have I found Japanese food as good as it is here. We recently tried out the new Fuji and I disliked their teppanyaki shrimp (they do have good sushi though, so will go there for that) - I literally lost my appetite and couldn't finish my food even though I was not full. Instead I offered my leftovers it to my nearly grown sons, but they never ate the leftovers from Fuji's either. At Tokyo's the shrimp very simply is THE BEST! Sometimes their sign out front boasts "Best Shrimp In Town" and that is indeed true. We have a system for their sauces - first we dip in the white sauce (the one they call mustard) and then dip in the brown sauce (the one they call ginger) - the combination of those sauces at the same time on their shrimp is heaven on earth!! Everything else is awesome too. One of my sons always gets the Seafood #2, the other son loves their Steak and Shrimp dinner, I always always always get the shrimp dinner with an appetizer of scallops (they come with the dinner actually, so not really an appetizer, but damn they are GOOD!) So bottom line, while in Eau Claire if you want the most amazing Japanese Teppanyaki come to Tokyo's... if you want beautiful surroundings, a party-hardy atmosphere, decent sushi then go to Fuji's.

Being rather new to the area, my wife and I are try to go to a new place each time we have dinner out. Last night we were fortunate enough to enjoy this restaurant. Dinners there feature a teppanyaki chef preparing food at your table (it was our first time dining in such a restaurant). Aside from that show, it is a good place to enjoy conversation with other patrons as it can be a small wait while the chef makes his way to your table. The dining tables are a C-shape around the hibachi. As you're seated the waitress, dressed in traditional Japanese attire like the whole staff, ask you to introduce yourself to the others at the table which can create a very social atmosphere. The menu is not very extensive at one side of an open book, but offers a nice selection of steak, pork, chicken, shrimp, fish, and seafood. I had the ginger pork and my wife the teriyaki cod. The prices are very moderate. The average is around $15 and includes soup, salad, entree, and tea. The location of the restaurant is in an small older-looking strip mall row of shops, but the interior is very nice. Reservations are not necessary but I would strongly recommend them as they have to work to fill a table with guests before the chef comes by to prepare the meals. They seated us without a reservation, but we came right as they opened for dinner. I've giving this five stars though I'll repeat this the first time I've been to a teppanyaki-style restaurant and I may revisit this review if I dine at another.
