First time eating here. Had the hot beef sandwich with homemade bread and gravy. This was fabulous! Make sure you save room for the award winning pie. Death by Chocolate was amazing! Staff was super friendly!

To start the food was awful. Blah appetizers (quesadillas and cheese curds). The $20 medium ribeye I ordered was less than 1/4 inch think and well done. My brothers A1 burger was a cooked frozen patty smothered in A1 to hide any of the other flavor. Service was worse. I got my first beverage and was empty when the food arrived and did not get a refill or see our waitress again until the check. The beer I did try was ok but nothing to write home about. Waitresses excuse "prom dress emergency".

Stopped in a few days ago for the beer... The food was FAR better than anything either myself or my friend had in our flights. Bummer. I had the Norsk pot roast sandwich! It was very moist meat, covered in gravy! I would likely make the drive back out for the food, but forgo the beer! Plus our server brought out our checks...after 15 minutes she still hadn't returned so we had to go up and have the bartender cash us out... Unfortunately for her, this was reflected in her tip.

The beer was great. My DH loved the double IPA. The food was a disappointment. I had the smothered chicken, which was on special. It consisted of two chicken filets topped with sautéed onions, mushrooms and Swiss cheese. The onions could have used more time in the pan, as they were a little underdone. The chicken could have offered up that extra time as it was dry. The garlic mashed potatoes were meh. Certainly not garlicky and lacking that delicious creaminess I expect. My hubby had the duck burger. It was very dry. Kid one had bluegill and soda it was terrible, though she did love the mushroom and rice soup. Kid two had the bison burger, he says the flavor was really good, but dry. The highlights were the combination platter of appetizers. The deep fried cukes were awesome. The wings weren't split as you might expect, but the bourbon sauce was quite delicious. The fresh dinner roll with honey butter was pretty amazing, too bad it came out after we finished our dinners. The best thing we ate? The sour cream raisin meringue pie. It was perfect, just as good as grandma makes it! Overall, a great place to grab a beer and some appetizers, or head over for some pie after dinner elsewhere. The pieces are huge, so bring a friend to share with.

Eau Claire staple, must try. I come to eau Claire a few times a year, and I was born and raised There. Every visit home is not complete without a bloody Mary And popcorn and appetizers at northwood, it's definitely been my favorite For the patio and service for about 13 years. Never had slow or unacceptable service. usually sit at the bar to see Lucas and Jarrod. This trip I was enamored by Stephanie, fantastic, friendly I will certainly be back. 5 stars for staff. And just as wonderful is food, drinks, atmosphere. If you see any complaints about this place they are probably Exaggerating. Such as I was unhappy with part of my food. You know what you ordered. Something could have been replaced, or maybe they ate almost all of Them, people can be quite ridiculous to save a penny. And when you are waiting for something you want it's ALWAYS "I waited 20 minutes for this or that" it was probably 3. Calm down. Of you actually waited 20 minutes for a refill you have to much free time. Go, eat, watch enjoy. I have never had bad service or food here.

Ate in the bar area while watching the Badgers secure a spot in the Elite 8! Not the best place to watch a game, but everything else in the area was packed so we chose to settle here. The bar area had about 7 T.V.s. one had trivia and another had hockey. Which I thought was weird because the Sweet 16 games were on, and Wisconsin was playing. I know that Eau Claire in not Madison, but come on...! Also some idiot kept getting up and playing country songs on the juke box while 90% of the place was listening, or trying to listen to the game. We sat in the middle of the bar area on some tall tables, which were not the most comfortable for eating because there was not place for knees. You had to either bend over to get to your food or try to balance it on your fork on its long trip to your mouth! There is a big TV in the pool room which looked awesome because they had a number of leather chairs surrounding it. They looked like the kind you might have in your basement or rec room at home. (Would have loved to have sat there but they were all filled)! Not much of a beer guy, but they seemed to be pretty proud of their beer selection. I had a Hendricks and Tonic (or two) and that suited me just fine! I ordered the soup (Wild Rice and Mushroom) and a side salad. It was one of the best soups I have had for a long time. Would come back just for the soup!! They bragged about their award winning pies, and their menu was filled with a great number. It was a little frustrating to find that most of them where not available. In fact of all of their "award winning" choices on the menu, tonight they only had one left. So of course I tried it. Pecan and Cream Cheese. Seem odd enough to give a try. The first bite was amazing! The problem was that it was soooo sweet that after a few bits you kind of had enough. Really would have went well with some bitter coffee, but I wasn't going to ruin a good gin buzz! The food seemed to be good. Would give it another try.

I love the setting but the food and even the beer brewed on site is forgettable and really nothing special. Prices tend to be high for what you get. You are better off spending the extra money at Grizzly's nearby. The pie is the only great thing there ( Norske Nook based in Osseo).

This trip was a lunch stop. We had sandwiches which were wonderful. I had the Crandberry Turkey & Swiss Melt. Killer! Others had sandwiches as that were great. This restaurant can fill the bill for all. Brew pub, excellent brunch, lunch or dinner. You can try norwegian dishes from the NorskeNook, or the more traditional dishes. Always top off your meal with Norske Nook pie!

Tried to dine on the Friday to kick off the Labor Day weekend for lunch. Waitress was very prompt and helpful. Placed our order including the appetizer of their famous homemade chips and cheese dip. When they finally arrived, the waitress explained the the kitchen was backed up which would explain slow but not cold. It went downhill from there. When our soggy cold food arrived after a 45 minute wait we expressed our disdain to our server. She came back offered to re make everything or they would take everything off the bill. We opted for the second option, leaving our cold, soggy food behind! We also left a nice tip for the server. Very disappointing.

This is a really interesting restaurant for us because it's part Norske Nook (with other locations in Hayward and Osseo) and part brewpub. And it's on the side of a mall. But don't let any of that potentially confusing information stop you from going. In many ways, it offers the best of both worlds. You can get many of the Norske Nook favorites on this menu, including of course eight billion types of PIE (which is THE reason for going to Norske after all). This location, though, only serves breakfast through 4 p.m. instead of all day, which is a mega bummer for me! But, you DO get lots of north woods decor and charm, plus added menu options. When I am forced to order something other than breakfast I like their French Dip sandwich, which comes with lovely au jus, lots of home roasted beef and a nice soft bun. Really tasty and a great sandwich. I also like their soups, both the classic french onion and the beer cheese soup. The Northwoods Brewpub does indeed brew beer, which you can order in the restaurant or take home. It's fine, but nothing that seems particularly noteworthy to me and my beer snob brain right now. In all, a great place to stop in Eau Claire, and a nice option for us if the Osseo location is too far or too close (depending on whether we're coming or going).

I've read the other reviews here and truly feel that the low stars are anomalies. The fish fry is AMAZING. I've gone on a regular basis for the last year and it has been great ( I've only ever done the fried not baked so I cannot speak to that). Their beers are average but consistently good and fair priced. The French onion soup is delicious, so are the deep fried pickles! I've always had good experiences with the staff ( except for one incredibly slow breakfast service... That was disappointing and is the only reason I give a four instead of five stars). The pies are solid and plentiful and the atmosphere is relaxing, chill and I've never felt rushed or brushed off when they have been busy. I am a fan!

We came in from out of town to visit friends, they heard good reviews about the food so we decided to check it out. The only good thing about this restaurant was the beer per my husband and my friends husband. We placed our orders, three of us ordered steak and my girlfriend ordered the perch. Our meals came with a choice of soup or salad. I was the only one at the table that ordered a salad. I told the waitress upon her bringing these to our table that we didn't have silverware. Needless to say we never received it. While everyone was able to eat their soup, I was left staring at my salad. When she finally returned she had our meals. I returned my salad and proceeded to eat a warm meal, not hot, warm. The three of us who ordered the ribeye were very disappointed. The cuts of steak were extremely fatty. They're considered 10 oz steaks and my husband could only mange to eat 5 oz, if that. Needless to say we didn't waste our time with dessert and the waitresses tip reflected the service we received. We won't be recommending this place to anyone we know and we certainly won't be returning.

Not bad. The beer was decent, the food okay. We both had the bison burger, which was overcooked and on a forgettable bun. The beer fries were decent, but nothing to write home about. Service and wait times were fine. The IPA was mild for our tastes, and the rye beer was quite pleasant.

I'm not sure if you can go wrong here. You DEFINITELY can't claim that you couldn't find anything you wanted, as they've basically got the combined menus of a good breakfast/pie joint and a good brewpub. Love the ambience of the "northwoods feel", complete with it looking out on a small pond/lake in the back. We had fried pickles for an appetizer, which was kind of fun (and very Wisconsin), and I had a fish sandwich that was pretty good. I also decided to try the Walter's Beer, one of the brews they have in-house. I probably should have gone with a higher-shelf beer that they brewed, as Walter's was clearly the EC answer to PBR (which is great when you want that, but I was looking for more of a craft brew). My wife finished with a slice of apple cream cheese pie, and she (being a pie aficionado) said it was amazing. We had a gift certificate for $25 off, but without it the bill would have been a bit pricey. So expect to spend a bit of dough (ie: slightly more than Applebee's). What to take from this: great ambience, great pie, and a massive menu of selections. We'll definitely be returning.

Longtime customer,,,very disappointed. My visit was 01/06/13. I have had wonderful meals here in the past. My son and I stopped for a meal. We got salad with incorrect dressing. We got appetizers half way through the meal and a cheeseburger with no cheese. We waved off a few fruit flies and watched a drip in the pie case. The waitress did aknowledge our bad experience. When I got to the register I was asked "what I wanted". The cashier was busy discussing the movie " this is 40" with awaitress....I did contact Northwoods about our experience and received no response.

Went here for a fish fry for my friend's wedding rehearsal dinner. I ended up ordering the baked fish, which was a mistake because it was insanely dry and lacking in flavor. The fries were pretty decent and my soda was fine, but all I really remember was the disappointing fish. I guess I should have gone with fried fish! The atmosphere was pretty great and the decor was kind of confusing, yet entertaining. The wait staff did a pretty awesome job of keeping everyone satisfied, which was impressive considering the amount of people we had in our group. The pies are supposed to be amazing. My butterscotch pie left something to be desired, but the bite of chocolate peanut butter pie that I had was amazing - I should have ordered that one! Overall, this place was really nothing special and I was kind of disappointed in the choices I made...but really, that's not my fault because all the food should be stellar!

The only redeeming aspect is that it's the only micro brewhouse in the area with pretty good beer and the atmosphere is very log cabin northwoods feel. However, the food and service are pretty much just OK at best, but typically horrible. The food is often bland and over/under done. The 'legendary' pies are actually from a related bakery in a nearby small town, but somehow are ruined from the travel or more likely are attempted to be made at this site with dreadful results. I even have a rodent story that I won't go into details on, but when it was brought to the attention of the bar staff they just shrugged it off.

We met the inlaws midway and stopped in for lunch and I was worried when I read the reviews, of course traveling to Sconi always makes me nervous. I was surprised by the size of the menu, I typically find foods that have a large menu to try to accomadate everyone and up making a bunch of medicore food. I ordered Beer Bleu burger and I thought it was a little overcooked. Fries were ok, but they were a beer battered..I dont like my fries battered, but I wont fault them for not having my preferred style of fries. Our server was very friendly, but I did think our food was a little slow to come out, but we weren't in a rush, so it worked out. I had one of their craft beers and homemade rootbeer. The beer was Ok, for an IPA it was a little mild. The rootbeer had a nice hint of vanilla. My real shock was that they put ice in it, most brew pubs I know with homemade rootbeer dont put ice in the glass. It was ok, but it wouldn't be my preferred stop in Eau Claire.

I like beer. I like going to brewpubs and sampling the custom crafted beverages therein. I really wanted to like Northwoods Pub and I've given them several chances to wow me. Sadly, they've struck out with me on several levels. The biggest single problem is the service. Lapses occur at every stage of the dining experience. The front door is sometimes left unmanned for long periods, resulting in a line of diners waiting to be seated, even when the restaurant isn't busy. It can take a long time to place an order. The kitchen seemingly operates in a glacial mode and food makes its appearance at a very leisurely pace, if at all. The food quality isn't much better than the service. I've ordered steaks here and had them come out improperly cooked. Fried foods are usually cool to the touch and greasy. Preparation is often indifferent. One of my dining companions ordered the shrimp basket. The tiny crustaceans were loaded with batter and buried under a sea of fries. Sometimes, ordered items are forgotten completely. The staff is friendly, and they have apologized for mistakes, but I think the real problem must be the management of this establishment. They have a very large menu and it seems to me that it may be a bit ambitious for the skills of their chef. Perhaps a smaller and more focused pub menu suited to the lodgey feel of the restaurant would be a smarter tack. It's a real shame because given their association with the legendary Norske Nook, the food should be a shining star in the local scene. Instead, it is an utter disappointment and reflects poorly on the Nook. It's a bit of a trek to Osseo but you'd be far better off making it if you want to experience the excellent entrees and baked goods Norske Nook is known for. Although I do like Northwoods' microbrews, unfortunately, the only recommendation I can make is to have a beer here, then go down the road to another restaurant for your meal. There are a plethora of better eateries around the mall that deserve your patronage over the Northwoods Brew Pub.

My husband was doing some job training in Eau Claire, and we (husband, toddler, and myself) needed to find some dinner. Being homebrewers ourselves, we love to seek out unique brew pubs. Walking in, I was quite impresses with the log cabin, northwoods feel. The hostess was super friendly, and quite knowledgeable of the current brews. We were a little bummer the brew master wasn't around or brewing, but oh well, it was a Sunday. The menu had us looking for a while since there were a lot of choices! I was blown away by the beer cheese soup. I've had quite a few variations in multiple states, and this one was a clear second place! I was very surprised and grateful for the lefse served with it :) My son and I split the bluegill dinner, and there was more than enough for both of us. The mashed potatoes were amazing! Clearly homemade and I think they may have added a little of the brown or porter to it. Even the gravy was spectacular; it reminded me of my dad's at Thanksgiving. Although good is 10-15 dollar, the portions make it worth while. I saw the kid's pan pizza, and it was HUGE! My hubby and I shared a sampler of beer. I was pretty impressed with the 9 samples for $7. Although most of the beers we sampled were average, I was especially impressed with the porter, and my hubby liked the IPA quite a bit. I was really bummed they were out of their Rasperberry Wheat. IT woudl have been really refreshing. I also wish we would have had room in our stomachs for pie; it looked amazing! The only thing that kept me from hitting 5 stars was the service. Refills on our water were very rare and far between. The server would check on on us, but she seemed a bit rushed and not sincere, and in no hurry to bring refills, boxes, or our check after requests. The atmosphere, food, and drink make this place a must-stop, but just don't be in any hurry.

It's so difficult to find lefse in the Chicago area that I was thrilled to find this place, lefse sandwiches ( a wrap), nice variety on the menu (even bluegills!!) great pies, and best of all (in my husband's opinion) locally brewed beer! Our server was friendly and prompt. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is that the beer glass had a disinfectant smell, probably from not being rinsed thoroughly after being cleaned.

We waited over 30 minutes for a couple of sandwiches and breakfast items. The food was nothing more than nuked frozen ingredients that tasted like unseasoned straw. Never thought I'd say this but McDonald's would have been a better choice.

And just as wonderful is food, drinks, atmosphere. If you see any complaints about this place they are probably Exaggerating. Such as I was unhappy with part of my food. You know what you ordered. Something could have been replaced, or maybe they ate almost all of Them, people can be quite ridiculous to save a penny. And when you are waiting for something you want it's ALWAYS "I waited 20 minutes for this or that" it was probably 3. Calm down. Of you actually waited 20 minutes for a refill you have to much free time. Go, eat, watch enjoy. I have never had bad service or food here.

Stopped in a few days ago for the beer... The food was FAR better than anything either myself or my friend had in our flights. Bummer. I had the Norsk pot roast sandwich! It was very moist meat, covered in gravy! I would likely make the drive back out for the food, but forgo the beer! Plus our server brought out our checks...after 15 minutes she still hadn't returned so we had to go up and have the bartender cash us out... Unfortunately for her, this was reflected in her tip.

Ate in the bar area while watching the Badgers secure a spot in the Elite 8! Not the best place to watch a game, but everything else in the area was packed so we chose to settle here. The bar area had about 7 T.V.s. one had trivia and another had hockey. Which I thought was weird because the Sweet 16 games were on, and Wisconsin was playing. I know that Eau Claire in not Madison, but come on...! Also some idiot kept getting up and playing country songs on the juke box while 90% of the place was listening, or trying to listen to the game. We sat in the middle of the bar area on some tall tables, which were not the most comfortable for eating because there was not place for knees. You had to either bend over to get to your food or try to balance it on your fork on its long trip to your mouth! There is a big TV in the pool room which looked awesome because they had a number of leather chairs surrounding it. They looked like the kind you might have in your basement or rec room at home. (Would have loved to have sat there but they were all filled)! Not much of a beer guy, but they seemed to be pretty proud of their beer selection. I had a Hendricks and Tonic (or two) and that suited me just fine! I ordered the soup (Wild Rice and Mushroom) and a side salad. It was one of the best soups I have had for a long time. Would come back just for the soup!! They bragged about their award winning pies, and their menu was filled with a great number. It was a little frustrating to find that most of them where not available. In fact of all of their "award winning" choices on the menu, tonight they only had one left. So of course I tried it. Pecan and Cream Cheese. Seem odd enough to give a try. The first bite was amazing! The problem was that it was soooo sweet that after a few bits you kind of had enough. Really would have went well with some bitter coffee, but I wasn't going to ruin a good gin buzz! The food seemed to be good. Would give it another try.

This trip was a lunch stop. We had sandwiches which were wonderful. I had the Crandberry Turkey & Swiss Melt. Killer! Others had sandwiches as that were great. This restaurant can fill the bill for all. Brew pub, excellent brunch, lunch or dinner. You can try norwegian dishes from the NorskeNook, or the more traditional dishes. Always top off your meal with Norske Nook pie!

Tried to dine on the Friday to kick off the Labor Day weekend for lunch. Waitress was very prompt and helpful. Placed our order including the appetizer of their famous homemade chips and cheese dip. When they finally arrived, the waitress explained the the kitchen was backed up which would explain slow but not cold. It went downhill from there. When our soggy cold food arrived after a 45 minute wait we expressed our disdain to our server. She came back offered to re make everything or they would take everything off the bill. We opted for the second option, leaving our cold, soggy food behind! We also left a nice tip for the server. Very disappointing.

This is a really interesting restaurant for us because it's part Norske Nook (with other locations in Hayward and Osseo) and part brewpub. And it's on the side of a mall. But don't let any of that potentially confusing information stop you from going. In many ways, it offers the best of both worlds. You can get many of the Norske Nook favorites on this menu, including of course eight billion types of PIE (which is THE reason for going to Norske after all). This location, though, only serves breakfast through 4 p.m. instead of all day, which is a mega bummer for me! But, you DO get lots of north woods decor and charm, plus added menu options. When I am forced to order something other than breakfast I like their French Dip sandwich, which comes with lovely au jus, lots of home roasted beef and a nice soft bun. Really tasty and a great sandwich. I also like their soups, both the classic french onion and the beer cheese soup. The Northwoods Brewpub does indeed brew beer, which you can order in the restaurant or take home. It's fine, but nothing that seems particularly noteworthy to me and my beer snob brain right now. In all, a great place to stop in Eau Claire, and a nice option for us if the Osseo location is too far or too close (depending on whether we're coming or going).

I've read the other reviews here and truly feel that the low stars are anomalies. The fish fry is AMAZING. I've gone on a regular basis for the last year and it has been great ( I've only ever done the fried not baked so I cannot speak to that). Their beers are average but consistently good and fair priced. The French onion soup is delicious, so are the deep fried pickles! I've always had good experiences with the staff ( except for one incredibly slow breakfast service... That was disappointing and is the only reason I give a four instead of five stars). The pies are solid and plentiful and the atmosphere is relaxing, chill and I've never felt rushed or brushed off when they have been busy. I am a fan!

We came in from out of town to visit friends, they heard good reviews about the food so we decided to check it out. The only good thing about this restaurant was the beer per my husband and my friends husband. We placed our orders, three of us ordered steak and my girlfriend ordered the perch. Our meals came with a choice of soup or salad. I was the only one at the table that ordered a salad. I told the waitress upon her bringing these to our table that we didn't have silverware. Needless to say we never received it. While everyone was able to eat their soup, I was left staring at my salad. When she finally returned she had our meals. I returned my salad and proceeded to eat a warm meal, not hot, warm. The three of us who ordered the ribeye were very disappointed. The cuts of steak were extremely fatty. They're considered 10 oz steaks and my husband could only mange to eat 5 oz, if that. Needless to say we didn't waste our time with dessert and the waitresses tip reflected the service we received. We won't be recommending this place to anyone we know and we certainly won't be returning.

Not bad. The beer was decent, the food okay. We both had the bison burger, which was overcooked and on a forgettable bun. The beer fries were decent, but nothing to write home about. Service and wait times were fine. The IPA was mild for our tastes, and the rye beer was quite pleasant.

I'm not sure if you can go wrong here. You DEFINITELY can't claim that you couldn't find anything you wanted, as they've basically got the combined menus of a good breakfast/pie joint and a good brewpub. Love the ambience of the "northwoods feel", complete with it looking out on a small pond/lake in the back. We had fried pickles for an appetizer, which was kind of fun (and very Wisconsin), and I had a fish sandwich that was pretty good. I also decided to try the Walter's Beer, one of the brews they have in-house. I probably should have gone with a higher-shelf beer that they brewed, as Walter's was clearly the EC answer to PBR (which is great when you want that, but I was looking for more of a craft brew). My wife finished with a slice of apple cream cheese pie, and she (being a pie aficionado) said it was amazing. We had a gift certificate for $25 off, but without it the bill would have been a bit pricey. So expect to spend a bit of dough (ie: slightly more than Applebee's). What to take from this: great ambience, great pie, and a massive menu of selections. We'll definitely be returning.

Longtime customer,,,very disappointed. My visit was 01/06/13. I have had wonderful meals here in the past. My son and I stopped for a meal. We got salad with incorrect dressing. We got appetizers half way through the meal and a cheeseburger with no cheese. We waved off a few fruit flies and watched a drip in the pie case. The waitress did aknowledge our bad experience. When I got to the register I was asked "what I wanted". The cashier was busy discussing the movie " this is 40" with awaitress....I did contact Northwoods about our experience and received no response.

Went here for a fish fry for my friend's wedding rehearsal dinner. I ended up ordering the baked fish, which was a mistake because it was insanely dry and lacking in flavor. The fries were pretty decent and my soda was fine, but all I really remember was the disappointing fish. I guess I should have gone with fried fish! The atmosphere was pretty great and the decor was kind of confusing, yet entertaining. The wait staff did a pretty awesome job of keeping everyone satisfied, which was impressive considering the amount of people we had in our group. The pies are supposed to be amazing. My butterscotch pie left something to be desired, but the bite of chocolate peanut butter pie that I had was amazing - I should have ordered that one! Overall, this place was really nothing special and I was kind of disappointed in the choices I made...but really, that's not my fault because all the food should be stellar!

We met the inlaws midway and stopped in for lunch and I was worried when I read the reviews, of course traveling to Sconi always makes me nervous. I was surprised by the size of the menu, I typically find foods that have a large menu to try to accomadate everyone and up making a bunch of medicore food. I ordered Beer Bleu burger and I thought it was a little overcooked. Fries were ok, but they were a beer battered..I dont like my fries battered, but I wont fault them for not having my preferred style of fries. Our server was very friendly, but I did think our food was a little slow to come out, but we weren't in a rush, so it worked out. I had one of their craft beers and homemade rootbeer. The beer was Ok, for an IPA it was a little mild. The rootbeer had a nice hint of vanilla. My real shock was that they put ice in it, most brew pubs I know with homemade rootbeer dont put ice in the glass. It was ok, but it wouldn't be my preferred stop in Eau Claire.
