NEW OWNERS!!! Yes, the place is exactly identical inside (the former owners even left their daughter's school trophy on the shelf and the new owners haven't removed it...) The food is noticeably better and the service is excellent (compared to the old owners). Some good dishes: wonton soup, sesame chicken, potstickers, sweet and sour chicken; to name a few. They are very quick...10-15 minutes max. If I'm up in Eagle River and craving chinese...i will no longer hesitate to order from the Hunan!

Ok, we live an hour away and whenever we crave shrimp fried rice, this is the place we go to. We have sampled other shrimp fried rice in other places but the one they have here is super delicious. Not greasy and very flavorful. However. The place itself is really dingy looking and hardly any customers whenever we would come visit. Also, they don't stick to the posted operating hours and there has been a lot of times when we would be outside, expecting food (and starving) and the place would be closed (an hour earlier or more!). The bathroom looks a little scary and the whole building looks tired and old. There was a small TV with some show in Chinese and a corner that looks like a "bar" area but I have never really seen anyone being served there. Not even sure they have alcohol..maybe. The family who owned the place were pretty friendly to us though and the service was always reasonably quick. But the shrimp fried rice makes up for it each and every time. Now they are under new management, and it looks like it has more customers. But the shrimp fried rice, although not bad, now tastes like every other shrimp fried rice that we have sampled. So no more special trips to this place for us. Sad.

1 Word; Disgusting!! I have no idea how anyone can give this dump more than one star. The only thing I can come up with is this must be the first place they had dined after a several decade prison stint. WORST Chinese food I have ever had. The most disgusting sweet and sour sauce I have ever encountered. The steamed rice was scorched and dry! May-be a day or 2 old??. The chicken was extremely bland, and you guessed it, DRY TOO!!. Horrible!!! I should have acted on my intuitions, and ran!!! But I didn't , sorry to say!

I've been eating there for the better part of 15 years. I always had good tasty Chinese food. Waaaaay better than the Chinese buffet's popping up like dandelions all over the state who all sell the very same product off a Chinese Sysco truck. But, I do have problems with the place. The owner/wife will not hire another waitress or waiter. When it gets busy, she can't really handle it. Runs around like crazy. It's almost laughable. Phone rings, takes orders, runs (literally) to one of 15 tables, runs to the bar, runs to the kitchen, back to a table puffing like a steam engine. I now only order take out. They have the best Hot & Sour Soup north of Hwy 33.

I moved up here to the northwoods years ago. Before this I lived in St. Paul, MN, before that I was in New York City. It's safe to admit the Chinese food in those cities spoiled me. After seven years of trepidation I tried the restaurant not knowing what to expect. The food was delicious and prepared quickly. The food is priced well, the customer service was great, the pork fried rice was spot on. My only regret is that I didn't try them out sooner. Give them a try.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
