This was a great find for brunch. Thanks to my friend Helen. You should start with the Bloody Mary... it's more like an appetizer. You have to see it to believe it but I will say it comes with a sandwich on top! We sat at the bar which honestly seemed to be the place to be for Sunday brunch. It was busier than the dining room. I had the bacon and something pancakes which were amazing. I honestly only got halfway through the stack but they were very good. The combo of bacon, syrup and strawberries was genius. I will definitely be back to the Cafe on the river for a Sunday Funday.

I was told by friends that Chanson's was a great place to go for drinks. Were they ever right! My husband and I stopped in here to celebrate a friend's birthday, and we were very impressed.

I have eaten here a handfull of times...lunch, dinner, bruch, and NEVER dissapointed!! The food is excellent, and the Executive Chef has his masters in Culinary Cusine. He also is from Southern France, so he knows his stuff!

I have been here several times, and have liked it each time. I think Mark L''s review is like criticizing Buick for not being a Rolls Royce. The Cafe Chanson has no claims to be a place for "haute cuisine". This is a restaurant like those where business men gather for lunch in Paris, or like an unpretentious country inn. The food is fresh and carefully prepared and always tasty. It is good French country cooking without the snob appeal of Julia Childs' type recipes. I have lived in Europe for fifteen years and spent many months in various parts of France. This is good French food at reasonable prices. Chef Sebastian is from Provence and knows what he is doing.

After my first dining experience at Cafe Chanson was mostly positive, I decided go there for brunch with a couple of friends. The restaurant serves brunch on weekends from 10-3, and offers a menu including crepes, sandwiches, and quiche, which works well for breakfast or lunch. I started with a Bloody Mary, which was heavily loaded with garnishes like olives, a pickle, a sausage stick, a cheese stick, lemon, and lime. Most importantly, the drink itself tasted very fresh, and didn't taste boozy or overly salty. I ordered the BELT (Bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato; a play on the classic BLT), which was served on a croissant. My sunny side-up egg was perfect, and the bacon was crispy and delicious. On the other hand, the shredded lettuce on the dish was slightly yellow, and not pleasant. The croissant was dry and flavorless. It was not even vaguely buttery, and tasted like stale white bread. I asked the waitress if the chef made the croissants, and she told me they were bought in pre-made, which was obvious. I might expect that from a cheap diner, but not from a restaurant with a French chef claiming to serve authentic French specialties. Speaking of bread, one of my dining companions ordered a Croque Madame, and the bread upon which the sandwich was served was like airy, gummy, Wonder Bread. If a place isn't going to do baking in-house, they should at least seek out a local bakery for their bread products. For what it's worth, most of the food myself and my companions were served was well prepared, and the service was good. However, focus on the details are what make a great restaurant. A French restaurant serving a lousy croisssant with yellow lettuce is disappointing.

Very good food for the price. I got a 14 oz steak, which was seasoned PERFECT. If you ask for it rare, that's what you get! French onion soup is very good. Competitive price for the quality of food you receive. Nice staff and atmosphere. We will be back.

What a wonderful treat! I had the best Croque Madame I had eaten outside of Paris, and my friend had a crepe that nearly overflowed the plate. The soups are also excellent and the service extraordinary. The lovely restaurant is on the second floor of a building which also houses a French-themed inn, and the room has wide windows which look out on the DePere locks -- a much better view than they used to be before the Riverwalk area was completed. I look forward to my next visit.

Made reservations well in advance. Though tables existed by the window and the place was empty (four tables occupied on a Saturday night), we were seated by the kitchen door. No table cloths or linens, just a Formica table - that should have been a clue. Ordered two house cocktails, a martini with St. Germain and a Pomegranate Cosmo. Both were WEAK! My wife said hers reminded her of a wine cooler. Beet Salads were good, but dressing was sparse. Wife had the Torneados, and. I had the Chicken Provençal. Both entrees were good, though my wife complained hers was too salty. To that note, there was neither a salt or pepper shaker to be found on the table. We split a creme brûlée. Apparently prepped well in advance. Rather than served warm, with a freshly crisped carmelized surface, it was cold; served "fresh" from the cooler. Waitress was attentive, but unfortunately could not compensate for the other gaps. I'm guessing this is a good sandwich and brunch stop. However, for the price, one expects a dinner experience superior to this.

Outstanding restaurant! Everything my wife and I had, from the marvelous mussel appetizer to the profiterole, was perfect. We had the salade fermier, the scallops, and the rack of lamb, all excellent. The service was attentative and friendly, and we ate on the porch overlooking the river on a warm spring evening. Very nice. And, the price was very reasonable. We've eaten many meals in Provence, and the chef here, who hails from Arles, learned his craft well. Do yourself a favor and give Cafe Chanson a try.

Hotel is nice, restaurant is nice, great prices The Cafe Chanson was a nice place, I had the Mediterranean crepe with a side salad. The salad was delicious. it was fresh and came with a homemade balsamic dressing that was tasty. The crepe was tasty, it was really flavorful, and tasted fresh. They had this feta (i think?) cheese with crepe that was delicious. people in my party weren't a fan of the french onion soup, and didn't understand the pairing of rice with chicken pot pie. but overall, it was really good experience. I'd love to come back again.

When you walk into the the building you have to wander up a few flights of stairs. It looks unimpressive but don't write it off yet! Not really French decor inside, but still nice. On a Tuesday night there were only 3 other couples in the restaurant. For me, that's a red flag that a restaurant is lousy. But this place was pretty good! Fair wine selection and reasonably priced food. I ordered the croquette madame which is a sandwich with ham and cheese and a fried egg. I substituted French onion soup instead of a salad or fries. Soup was average. Sandwich was good. The star of the meal was the MUSSELS. They are fabulous. A whole pound of them in a Parmesan garlic cream sauce. So so so good. I would return just for those. My husband ordered the duck a la orange and his brother ordered the shrimp scampi. They loved their food. His wife ordered the mussels for her entree too because they were so superb. Service was a little average but there wasn't really many servers (or customers). Nice view of the river.

This is an average Green Bay restaurant with lots of mashed potatoes and sauteed broccoli and baby carrots. It is absolutely fine as long as you are not expecting a French meal. If the chef is actually from France, then I will eat my shoe. The atmosphere is fantastic with a balcony overlooking the DePere dam and bridge. The restaurant is very pleasant and the service is adequate. It has a casual vibe with folks in jeans as well as dresses. Perfectly fine local restaurant, but not a destination.
