Stopped for lunch. Rolf's sauce on the burger was very good. The burger itself was very good. I would stop again and next time try their beer. The red cabbage was very good.

(Back in January, I set out on a road trip from the Twin Cities to Toledo, Ohio. I decided to make it a culinary trip, visiting six restaurants between St. Paul and Chicago. I tweeted reviews at the time in 140 characters or less, but here is a more extensive review) "German Haus 4/5 Authentic german food, beautiful restaurant. Juicy wurst, sweet potato salad, strong beer cheese soup. Weiner schnietzel!" First off, the map on Yelp doesn't show the proper location. It's very easy to get to, once you get off the highway you head towards US-12 and take a left. It's across the street from the BP. The address is correct on Yelp, but I'm not sure why it shows it farther north. Anyway, don't get lost! After I found the place (not sure why I missed it), I was welcomed in. Wasn't sure how hungry I'd be after already eating twice, but I shrugged it off. Inside it is pretty beautiful with red chandoliers. Looks like it can be used as a beautiful banquet hall. Anyway the food. Since I haven't been to a german restaurant before, I wasn't sure what to get. The weiner schnitzel? Wait that's not a sausage of some sort? Hmm. I settle on the bavarian grill which gives me an option of three meats, the pork chop, brat, and the pork weiner schnitzel. So I learned a weiner schnitzel is simply a piece of veal pounded thin, breaded. In my case the veal was substituted with pork. Not bad, could have been more tender. I tried the soup of the day, which was a beer cheese soup, which wow had quite a strong flavor. I actually kinda liked it, but your mileage may vary. The potato salad was surprisingly sweet. The pork chop was cooked well yet still juicy and tender, a treat to eat. And the brat well, tasted like a darn good brat to me. I'm starting to get a bit full. So if you're on the road and are craving some authentic german food, make a stop here (exit 55 I believe) and split some dishes.

Sorry - Target Bluff is no longer operating. Closed after so many good years and Rolfs dedicated service to his local community.

Everytime I'm in town, I always make it a point to come here for dinner. Their soup is really good. Especially the chicken dumpling. It's served every Tuesday. I had the veal with brown gravy last time I was there. It was perfectly fried. They also have a good selection of German beers.

This place is a delightful old-style german treat. I have never really been a big connoisseur of german food since a lot of it is pork and I don't dig on swine. However, I was able to find plenty of other meat dishes to eat and was pleasantly surprised. The Wiener Schnitzel was tender, and paired nicely with the pickled red cabbage. I came back a few weeks later during the Summer Fest where they had live music (polka and yodeling) and they had put on quite the smorgasbord with brats and schnitzel and potatoes. The owner, Rolfe, even came over to our table to wish my friend a happy birthday and give him a shot. The desserts are also quite amazing. They are really accommodating for large parties (we had 30+ people in our group).

One quote from the table said it all: "this place doesn't make me want to go to Germany." All of the food was disappointing and not a single dish on the table was finished. The Sauerkraut tasted like it had just been scoped from a large plastic jar. The Bratwurst dinner was basically two cooked speciality hotdogs. The German-style potato salad was almost inedible. The American fries were soggy and under-fried. Better to skip this one.
