Excellent service, not so excellent food. Super Cheap, you could get a soup, sandwich, fries, and salad bar for like $7 What we've had: King of Clubs (Club sandwich) - blech! turkey didnt taste good and was cut super thick, cheese was tasteless american cheese. I dont even think it was real American Cheese, which is pretty bad. Split pea soup - Not homemade, Patty melt - decent, but then again how do you screw up a patty melt. Cheeseburger - same, decent. Salad Bar - Iceberg lettuce, sysco dressing. My second time in I made the mistake of ordering the "Pot Roast Special over noodles" Huge mistake. I figured how bad can you screw up a pot roast? At worst it will be a little tough. Well what was delivered to our table was a piece of sandwich roast beef, boiled. That was then laid over egg noodles and tomato soup was poured all over the top. I had to send that one back... I told the waitress "this isnt pot roast". She almost said "yes it is" but stopped herself. I had her bring me a patty melt.

We stopped at this "place" (using the term lightly) for breakfast, based on a previous yelpers review. The best part about this place was the waitress. She was very nice, and knew what she was doing. The lady who brought out our drinks, never smiled, and looked like shed rather be slitting her wrists than waiting tables. Whatever I could care less about service issues when the food is good. Now- the food.... I ordered biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, hash browns, and an english muffin. Besides the english muffin Im 99% sure everything had been in powder/ freeze dried form earlier that morning. I got 2 biscuits, cut in half (they were no bigger around than those cute mini pancakes) and literally, I was unsure if they were even there under the 5 lbs of gravy!! The gravy was definately instant with freeze dried chunks of some form of sausage. My eggs came to the table in a flat folded I dont know what... When I flipped it over it had a blue tint to it... Mmmm powdered egg!!! Ok well I figure all is not lost- hash browns are really hard to mess up- right? Yea, when they are fresh!!!!! I almost broke a tooth on an un-moistened piece of rehydrated potato shred. And no, the generic fake ketchup didnt help. By the time I got to the english muffin, I was so nauseated, it stayed on the table. My husband and I ordered the same thing, hes not even as close to as picky as I am, and I ate more than he did. The one star is because we had a view of the river to distract me from picking apart the seating that looked like it had never been wiped down- which in turn got me thinking about the kitchen and how clean that probably was(n't)... I wouldnt even bring the leftovers home to my dogs.

If it were possible to give this place just half a star I would. Our story begins with an innocent trip to the salad bar. When I returned to the table with my iceberg lettuce and goopy thousand island dressing, I noticed there was a long dark human hair interwoven in my lettuce and stale croutons. The waitress, bless her heart, apologized and said it might be from her or one of the other staff members cats. She offered my girlfriend and I a free dessert because of this, I wish we would have not accepted. The apple pie we had was old, and inedible. Essentially, this place made me pay 20 dollars for a salad I couldn't eat, and pie which made vomit in an alley five minutes later... Sorry for the mess, Town of Berlin-- but don't blame me, blame the folks at the Berlin Family Restaurant.

This place is sad. The seats are all worn and ripped. The bathroom was old and nasty. The nice view of the river and downtown is spoiled by the greasy dumpsters. The food. Probably the lamest salad bar I've ever seen. Black and Bleu Burger was pretty good. The service. This was the only good thing about the place. Our waitress was very pleasant and made good suggestions. Food came out in a reasonable time. This place really needs new management.

Berlin Family Restaurant (BFR) has been a hit and miss for a while. It has been through many owners in the past ten years. Currently, I enjoy going with my friends, very cheap and serving size is good. My friends love the salad bar my favorite are the croutons and the cowboy burger. I wouldn't really bring anyone there on a date But if you want a casual place to bring your friends BFR is the place to go.

After reading many of the poor reviews I so wanted to come through with at least a 4 Star fir this place. It seems that most of the low reviews were from locals who maybe are to close to "the people who worked there" or to the history of the restaurant. Well with that said, I just can't come through with more than a 3! To start out, I have to say the food that I ordered was very good. My omelet was tasty and the hash browns were excellent. Service was average, no problems there. My issues came with the shape of the restaurant. The outside signage need to be re painted and the building looks kind of shabby. The inside (I hope) is in the middle of a renovation. The walls are being painted (I think) and the floor looks like things have been moved around, leaving weird flooring patterns on the floor. The restaurant is attached to a bar in the back and they share the same bathroom. This is a mistake! The bathroom has that dive bar smell to it and has upcoming band posters half hanging on the walls. IF thus place is under construction, please disregard some of my issues listed above! Bottom line. I thought the food was good! I would come back for the hash-browns alone. I do hope that if I do come back the place is fixed up.

Our hotel manager recommended this restaurant, so we headed there for dinner. It was the middle of the afternoon, and, not surprisingly, we were the only ones in the place. I ordered the 12 ounce Ribeye. The price included an adequate salad bar, and a small cup of soup. I'd never heard of "cream of ruben" before, so gave it a try. It was a little unusual, but tasty. The steak arrived, cooked exactly how I ordered it (medium rare) accompanied with a generous helping of real mashed potatoes and a side carrots. It wasn't 12 oz, though - I'm guessing it was a little over a pound. It was tender and tasty. The meal also included a small desert. The bill, including coffee, was $16.12! I would have expected to pay at least twice that in a fancier restaurant. I was with several other people who all ordered different things, and everyone was pleased with both the food, portion sizes and prices. Service was fast and friendly, as I would expect in an otherwise empty restaurant. I'm only here for another few days, but I will be going back.

Last time I came here I was very disappointed. The food and service were okay but nothing like when I used to come here.

Used to have good food. Now food is mediocre out of the can. I would recommend breakfast though. Have not been back there in years.

My experience here was a pleasant one. Had the prime rib sandwich which was a little tough but passable. Salad bar was small but sufficient. Chicken soup was good. All for around $10.
