Huge menu and amazingly cheap. Portions are on the small side but very generous with the condiments like guacamole and salsa. Sauces were a little unusual but very tasty. Love the decor. Wonder where they got those crazy chairs!

I really wanted to like this place, and not just because it smells great. There were three of us, and I asked for a separate salsa dish (instead of three people sharing one tiny one). Sure, I'm picky, but I thought it was a simple request. Apparently it was not, you would have thought I asked for a cheese pizza. But, moving on, I got a chicken taco and a Don Burrito. The Burrito was stuffed with meat, rice, and beans, and topped with red sauce and cheese. It looked really good, and was honestly not bad at all. However, it was hardly something I would want again. Oh, and the taco? It was beef. Not a crisis; I love beef too, but I asked for chicken and told him when he asked if everything was okay. He said he'd fix it, but never did. Poor service and mediocre food make a pretty poor combination. I may be here again, but I won't move it atop my list.

A variety of lunch specials to choose from and did I mention the Margaritas are great.

Portions are huge, here. Price is very inexpensive. Wait staff are very nice. Food is just fine (not amazing, but for the price and service, I can't complain). Would I go back here? Maybe, if I were in the neighborhood... and I really needed some Mexican food and/or a margarita.

I've been coming to eat here for a couple years now and literally watched the place go down hill. Tonight was THE LAST TIME I come here alone or with my family. Tonight I had HORRIBLE SERVICE. Our server (and I would put the name but he didn't introduce himself) was upset because he had to serve us. The only time we saw him was when he took the order and delivered the food and drinks, brought EXTREMELY HOT PLATES TO BOTH MY DAUGHTERS ( 2 and 5 years old) my oldest almost cried after just trying to move her plate so she could eat but of course we couldn't even ask for plates because our server was nowhere to be found and there was "nobody else watching the dinning area". This is by far THE WORST SERVICE I'VE EVER HAD, even a fast food place gives better service than Nopales now a days. After tonight you guys lost a customer that has been coming here for the last 3 or 4 years not because of the food, which I believe is just the same that it has always being, but because of THE HORRIBLE SERVICE YOU GUYS PROVIDE. And you guys wonder why everyone choses to go to JOSÉ MEXICAN RESTAURANT over you huh?

Best Mexican food in Baraboo. Food is great! Service is good. Doesn't have the same "fun" factor as the other Mexican restaurant in town, but the food is wayyyyyy better! Carne Asada tacos are totally authentic. The Special Dinner is huge and totally affordable. Enough food for 2 people to share. Best Mexican food I've had since we moved outta California.

I have been here many times and each time I try something new. I haven't had a bad meal yet. On my last visit, I found a new favorite. The Don Burrito. Let me tell you this may well be the best dish I have had at any Mexican place ever! Its a gigantic burrito, stuffed with chicken or beef (chicken is better, imo) beans, rice and cheese. Its covered in two sauces- a tomato sauce and a cheese sauce. It comes with sour cream, guacamole and pico de gallo. OMG it is so good! I was telling someone about how good it was and they said 'whats in it that makes it so good?" All I could say was 'magic' It's big enough to split, so bring a friend and try it. You can thank me later.

I'm surprised by the other reviews of the service here. My service was extremely responsive. I was asked for my drink order right when I arrived, served chips and salsa right away and it continued this way throughout the night. My burrito was only 8.50, was huge, and included guacamole. I'd definitely recommend it!

Service was on point, but food wasnt the greatest. The reason we ended up here is it was the only Mexican place open. We were here in the middle of December though. Overall we werent disappointed, a solid 3 stars!

We drive 30 minutes from the Dells for the Carnitas typically once a month. Authentic and HUGE portions for $8.99. Service is always good and consistently great food. Highly recommend. Wish we had one in Illinois.

This place is great, service has always been great, good portions for $. Free chips and salsa, although salsa was more liquidy then what I like. They also include a ranch style dip. The food has always been delivered hot and the prices are great. I believe this is the same group that ran El Vallarta on the eastside of Baraboo.

I was a little disappointed that when it says ?served with rice and beans?, it doesn't really mean you will get rice and beans. I ordered a Burrito de Carne Asada. On the menu, it says ? steak burrito served with mexican rice, refried beans, and lettuce.? Despite getting a nice helping of lettuce on the side, I didn't receive any rice and brand on my plate. When I inquired, I was told it was ok the inside of the burrito only. I asked twice to be sure since it is quite common for mexican restaurants to serve rice and beans as a side. When you order, ask twice what will come in your plate because it may not be the way you expected it based on past experiences at other mexican restaurants and plain english written in their menu. It was probably more frustrating for me since I like to eat my chips with rice and beans instead of the salsa. I like to eat my chips with rice and beans

Four-star food with consistently one-star service. I've been there several times when the staff outnumbered the customers, and the waitstaff STILL seem more interested in chatting or watching the tv than bringing the check.... I wonder how long they can stay in business with Jose's only three minutes away....

Love this place. My favorite is the taco salad fajitas with steak.

On Cinco de Mayo I was in the mood for some Mexican food, so I decided to try this place out. I first noticed that the TVs by the host stand and over the bar were both tuned to Univision, which I took to be a good omen. (And being that the holiday fell on a Saturday, "¡Sábado Gigante!" was on.) My dining experience got off to a rocky start, however. I was seated in what appeared to be a blind spot at the nexus of service zones because I could see three different waiters and waitresses serving the tables all around me except for my little booth. Luckily the hostess left chips and salsa, which was tasty and seemed homemade. The lull also gave me time to notice the backing of the empty booth seat across from me, which featured a painting on ceramic tile of an Aztec warrior bludgeoning a maiden and preparing to drag her to the top of a ziggurat. Interesting (appetizing?) décor to say the least. When someone finally saw me, I ordered the el especial toro fajitas (beef, chicken, shrimp, and chorizo). They were excellent! I couldn't finish the sizzling platter for one, but the leftovers deliciously filled the omelette I ate this morning. Sadly, the namesake did not appear on the menu; I was in the mood for nopales too. The food I had was excellent, though, and there were several other appealing choices on the menu. The service picked up considerably once I was discovered in my lonely corner. My margarita was good as well. All in all, a good little joint that I will be pleased to return to.

Stopped in for a late lunch early dinner after visiting the train museum. Wonderfully suprised! The decor was fun, staff friendly and attentive. The food was phenomenal and blows away any and all Mexican resterants in Madison.First the chips are served warm with not only a salse but a sweet ranch dip. We asked for a hotter salsa whi h was even better! Not a "burning the mouth hot" but a hot with flavor that made your head and cheeks sweat slightly, Yum. We asked the waiter for specialties and he explained 4 dishes that sounded great! I had the chile verdes and my partner had the enchilades verdes. The pork flavor in the chili cannot be described other than fabulous! The tortilla's were fresh and hot. Both dishes were mouthwatering flavorful. We topped it off with a 32oz Margaritta and watched as plate after plate was served to surrounding guests. The fajita's came out sizzling and filled the resterant with a wonderful aroma. I will go back to try those for sure. We will definately make a point to go back when we are in the area and will gladly point friends and family there as well.

I have not had Mexican food that good in awhile. The prices were great and everything was cooked to order. The staff was friendly and helpful. This will be one of our new favorite dinner spots.

This is anything but authentic. We moved up to the Dells area from Chicago where the is literally an authentic Mexican restaurant on every corner. So when we drove past and saw the sign we thought that it would be worth our while. First. The nachos they brought to the table with what seemed to be Pace Picante Sauce instead of pico de gallo Second. I ordered a steak burrito. As soon as I took a bite I realized that my steak was grilled with peppers and onions... The same meat fajitas. I never order fajitas because I don't like peppers and onions and had the menu indicated that was in fact what u was getting I never would have ordered it Third. My husband ordered taco dinner. He actually wasn't asked for what type of meat he wanted so when they came with ground beef he was highly disappointed. The rice and beans however were good but not good enough to ever go back again. Thank goodness they were reasonably priced so we didn't get overcharged for food we barely touched

This is our favorite Mexican restaurant. We try to get there about once a week. The staff is so nice, and the service is great! We love the food, and the portion sizes are just right. Very clean and charming. Love it!

I haven't had a good experience since they have been in this building. Service and food has really declined compared to when they were over on east side.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
