Great authentic Mexican food. Amazingly friendly and attentive service. Jose treats us like family. I love the fajitas especial, and the carne asada is great. Good beer and margaritas. If it's warmenough, eat on the patio.

The food here is authentic and the margaritas are excellent. Chips and salsas are great also.

Loved everything about this place! The service, the people and especially the food! We had a long day of skiing and were looking for a place to lay back and relax, and we found just the place - Jose's Mexican restaurant. They started with their chips and salsa which was perfectly warm and fresh. We went on to have the mango margaritas which was just what we needed. The side of guacamole is surprisingly large compared to other mexican restaurants and sooo fresh! 3 out of 4 of us were vegetarian, and they were nice enough to substitute their meat for veggies. Their food was amazing! Delicious flavors and fresh ingredients. The servers were really really friendly and spent time speaking with us and made us feel at home. Loved it! We even got to sport mexican hats to celebrate our anniversary. If we're ever in the area for skiing again, I will definitely visit. Keep up the great work guys.

Outstanding meal ... Seriously. Coming from Phoenix AZ, I expected good but not worth great. But I was mistaken. The food was all seriously delicious for our party of six.

I'll give this place 3 stars for the food, 5 stars for the ambiance. Jose's is definitely doing it all right here. Every time you eat there it's like a party! Great place for birthdays or special occasions. Food was ok, but being from So Cal, Mexican food anywhere else just doesn't compare. Fun place with decent food.

We stopped here for dinner on a Tuesday night while staying at a hotel close by. The place was packed! We were given chips, salsa, a white dipping sauce, and margaritas while we waited for a table. They apologized profusely for not being able to seat us right away. The margaritas and chips hit the spot while we waited for the table. Once seated, we ordered taco salad and enchiladas. Both were excellent, along with the rice and beans that accompanied the enchiladas. The food was great and the drinks were STRONG! All of the waitstaff were incredibly friendly and eager to please. The restaurant is small and a little cramped for space. However, great customer service and we will visit again next time we're in town.

Great food and huge margaritas! Most places that advertise 'authentic' Mexican food don't feel very authentic... or even worse- feel forced. Jose's had a comfortable and inviting atmosphere and polite staff. Servers great timing and made sure that you were taken care of without missing a step at other tables. If I lived in Wisconsin I would be a regular there for sure. :)

Jose's was recommended to us while in the area on vacation. The bad: Our service- Unfortunately we felt like we had the only bad server in the place. All the other servers were friendly to the other tables and attentive. While ours barely spoke at all to us or give us any service. He was wearing a different color shirt from the others so our hope was that he was new. The seating- It was compact. There were beams blocking the aisles and some of the tables. Felt small when in reality I don't think it was too small, just bad layout. The good: Food- hot, fresh and kind of made the other stuff not matter. KIND OF. Lots of flavor!! Overall we felt it was an okay place. Wish we could have experienced the friendly service it seemed others were getting and it would have made it an entirely enjoyable dinner!

Jose's is almost always busy because the food is good and very fast. The staff is usually pretty friendly despite how loud is can get with large groups. The food is priced along with other Mexican restaurants in the ares, but Jose's has 2 for 1 margarita's in the beginning of the week. Although the seating in the main dining room is a bit cramped when large parties are there, the food and friendly staff make up for it.

You have a few choices in Baraboo, Lake Delton, and Wisconsin Dells for decent Mexican food, but Jose's is in a field by itself. If you want the chain reataurant feel, find somewhere else to eat because Jose's isn't what you're after. If you're interested in eating where the locals eat, head on over... and prepare to wait in line during peak times. What Jose's offers is outstanding Mexican food at a very fair price. The staff is very friendly and genuinely seems happy to see you. Sometimes, when it gets very crowded, the service can be a bit slow. Keep in mind there's a small staff and, even with a slower pace, your food will be served piping hot and taste like a lot of care went into your meal. It is always fun to watch the birthday celebration. The staff comes out, guitar in hand, sings, and then there's a special something at the end. I won't ruin the surprise in case you, the reader, are on your way to celebrate yours. While off the beaten path of touristy areas up in the Dells, Jose's is very easy to get to and well worth the drive out. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Service was top notch by every single server that stopped by our table. Our server, Sergio was great- very engaging and fun. About a 10 mile jaunt from the Dells. We came in through the back and walked by the massive wall of people wearing sombrero photos. Food ordered: Mazatlan: Shrimp tacos and a crab somthing or other- I think it was a enchilda Beef Fajitas Fajita Taco Salad Steak Tampiqueno- I usually love this elsewhere- I just didn't care for it here. The steak was too well done for my liking and the meat just tasted cheap. I know and love steak- this just didn't do it for me. It's rare that I ever leave steak left on the plate. Place is cute. A lot of townies must frequent the place. My n/a peach margarita was refreshing. My mom's alcho one was kinda meh and watered down. Tasted like the mix only sans the tequila. One of the nicer options for the area.

Awesome food, lively atmosphere, and staff that love what they do. What more can you ask for?

Great Service! This place was packed, but they were quick to seat us...and even when they ran behind because of a large group and a very full restaurant...the owner made sure to stop by all the tables and resolve any possible issues...and our waiter offered a free margarita because of the delay! Wow! Then there's the food...I though it was great and my husband says this was by far the best Mexican food he had ever had! Definitely recommend!

Food was great. Service was attentive. Fun and authentic atmosphere. We were a party of five and everyone enjoyed their meals. Only complaint is a water-downed margarita. But they were pretty popular so I'm guessing mine was the only one lacking.

Well, my family tricked me into going here on my birthday last month. Need I say more, lol. It was a very fun, live atmosphere. The staff is VERY nice! They're very personal and came around to chat. Probably the best guacamole I've had from a restaurant.

We were staying at Devil's Head Resort and their restaurant was full, so a quick search turned up Jose's. Can you take a table of 8 right now? "We're full right now but we'll make a place for you." OK, cool. 3 separate checks? "No problem." What we found after a quick 15-minute drive is a large, lively and very customer-oriented restaurant, with GREAT Mexican food. The Carnitas was a massive plate of delicious tender pork and served with a side of special salsa (sorry I can't remember what they called it, but it was clearly house-made and really delicious). The Chile Verde was similarly excellent. The kids all scarfed down their (very inexpensive) meals. There's a comprehensive list of Mexican beers, which we made good use of. Toward the end of our meal a very friendly server asked us if we were ready for a round of tequila shots. We thought he was joking. Then he showed up with a bottle of El Jimador Anejo and set us up - gratis. Jose's goes on our list of new must-have traditions when visiting the Baraboo area.

The salsa they gave us with the chips was generic but okay. I had the California burrito and let me say it's not for the weak! The steak meat was flavorful same with the chicken and shrimp. Service was very nice and Jose himself came and talked to us :) you should totally stop by if you are in the area!

As authentic as Ragu or Chef Boyardi. Plus the chips were stale. The service, however, was good.

Love this place! The food is always delicious, and the prices are reasonable. I am a fan of the fajitas, but my husband has had many of the other menu items, and he always loves whatever he orders.

We visited here on Black Friday, during our annual Thanksgiving trip to the Dells. I had found a Groupon offer, so we decided to try it after one of our favorite Dells restaurants had gone out of business. All in all, it was a good experience and we might find ourselves back here next year. Our family members all agreed that the food was good, fresh, and definitely a good value. I usually leave most of my rice on the plate when I eat at a Mexican restaurant ... not so here. Their Spanish rice was some of the best I've had. Good tamale, good, enchilada, OK beans. By far, the best part of the experience though, was the service. Fast, friendly, warm ... I felt like I was right at home. I'd probably go back for that level of service even if the food wasn't good! The only thing that prevents me from giving this place 5 stars was the drinks. I expect Mexican restaurants to have great margaritas ... or at least good margaritas and Jose's just didn't deliver on their margarita. I have powdered kool-aid-like margarita mix at home that tastes as good or better than what they served us here. Next time out, I'll order a cerveza instead, and maybe then Jose's will be worth 5 stars!

Outstanding. VERY friendly and helpful staff. Excellent, homemade guacamole: fresh avocados, very generous portion. Food was very good. Service was fast. We stopped by, on a whim, and picked up dinner to go to eat in Devil's Lake State Park. Now we're looking forward to stopping by Baraboo some time just to eat at Jose's again!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
