For the price of the room, overall not satisfied. At check in we were told the pool was out of service. I asked what was wrong and when it would reopen and got a look as dumb as the answer. The room itself was ok until you turned on the flat screen and learned that the remote was not programed for the TV and apparently they must be using one of those old roof mounted antennas because most of the channels had snow and the ones that were not were probably not HD. Probably much better choices when visiting Wisconsin Dells. I should have used Yelp.

So the first time I was there (off season) I loved it! This most recent trip was pretty terrible. Maybe it was all the kids and no enforcement of some parts of the hotel being "adult only" at certain times or maybe not but it just didn't hit the mark for me. I was so excited to go to the large hot tub they have at 10 PM when it is adult swim time until midnight but was splashed by kids kicking and screaming up until we left near 11. In addition, this time we tried the buffet which is usually $12 but we went on a saturday and they served prime rib and it was $30!! for $12 the buffet would have just been ok, but for $30...noooo. very dated, carpeted, no windows, and the sauces/liquids had like a film on the top of them. what i did eat was good but i didnt feel like getting adventurous, also our server was great the room itself was just okay, we only had about 8 channels that worked, 3 of which were non-local: comedy central, TBS, and one other i am forgetting. room service did a pretty lousy clean up job in terms of not putting pillows back on the bed or leaving towels for us. oh and grossest thing was when i was showering after a minute or 2 i look around the shower and on a fold of the curtain is head to toe big black MOLD it was so gross! clearly noone is cleaning those liners...did not shower in our room bathroom again our first stay was great this one was pretty bad...inconsistent, unsure if i will return.

We had a great time here! We spent what we planned to. It is a lot nicer than Black River Falls (less smoky too). The rooms (at least the suite) are very nice. The grill was the only option for a 6 AM breakfast today . We didn't pre order room service. I wish they had digital blackjack though. They did have a digital roulette but the only seats available were out of service .

Ho-Chunk is an OK option for gambling. They are far from Vegas however. Of course no one can out do the good ole' Sin City. I was actually shocked at how small the casino was. I was expecting the facility to be much bigger than what it was. They need to replace many of their slots which are super old. Also, table games needs to have automatic shufflers instead of having the dealer to shuffle. it takes too long! As a Black Jack junkie, I would appreciate more $5 black jack tables. For the 2 hours I was there, there was only 1 $5 black jack table and of course, it was always full. That being said, I only lost $10 the entire night!

I live in Baraboo. I used to be a regular. Meaning I'd go 3-4 times a week to gamble. Of course spending so much money I'd get perks from the rewards club card. If you can really call them perks. It was a $100.00 a week rewards play, 2 hotel stays a month and, 4 free buffets a month. The free $100 I'd be lucky to win maybe $30.00 off of. The hotel is nothing better than some road side hotel. Standard everything, and the t.v., omg, the t.v. Is awful. Maybe 5 channels all boring channels and three times I stayed the remote didn't even work. Oh, if you call for a wake up call, they'll say they'll do it, BUT THEY DON'T! Never! Put the "do not disturb " sign on the door, the maids still knock, once she actually walked in! I was furious! The free buffets lol what a absolute joke. Gross, just gross food. Nothing is fresh. I would go when it was prime rib on Saturdays but, they also had crab legs, or king crab, whatever it is, I can not stand sea food, fish any of it and after standing in line for two hours the whole place reeks of fish. I asked the waitress once if I could sit away from the buffet cause of the very strong smell she laughs and says " sorry, but suck it up butter cup" who says that? Really? I've gone during the week, during the day, same thing, gross food. I would eventually just never use the free perk of the buffets. Now, to the reason I'm no longer a regular. The slots are brutal. Unenjoyable. Disgusting. I put $100 in each machine I try. I like to play penny slots. I bet a $1.00. The last year, I would go the entire 100 spins and not see one bonus. Nothing. You hit the button and stare at nothing. I go to another machine, another 100 spins, again, not one bonus. Yes, I was highly addicted to gambling, but, thanks to ho chunks unbelievably TIGHT machines, I have ZERO desire to return. Going to ho chunk is better than a rehab. Oh, and when you do see a bonus, it's a joke, not even remotely close to a decent win. Betting a dollar and you win $16.00 for a bonus. Pathetic. Side note, good luck getting a drink from the atrocious soda ladies, you ask, they make you feel like you're bothering them, and yes, I TIP, a dollar each time. ZERO customer service skills in that place. The place is rotten all the way around, don't waste your time here. 10 years ago it was a blast. But, we're not in 2005 anymore. All I can say is if you go, you've been warned.

Terrible. This is one of the absolute worst casinos I have ever been to. For starters at one point in the night I placed my beer down for about one minute when some random ho chunk worker came and picked it up. I had my back turned for no more than 10 seconds when he had taken it after I had paid over six dollars for this overpriced spotted cow. The bartender told me that it was MY responsibility to find the worker in order for me to be compensated for that beer. What?!?! Are you serious? This place clearly is tailored toward ripping their customers off. This is the worst casino I have ever been to in my life...and I have been to both Las Vegas and Atlantic City, and I can't express to you how awful this casino is in terms of payout AND customer service. I hate Ho Chunk for their awful service. This place is terrible not only for the customer service, but also for the gaming. I will absolutely never come back to this place ever again, and highly suggest you look to better places. Potawatomi casino in Milwaukee is wayyyy better by the way if you are looking for better options in Wisconsin.

I put $75 in a slot machine and walked away with $0.34. This place sucks. -- joking aside, it's a typical casino. Decent variety of tables and slots. Nothing special, but an okay casino. Only complaint is the smoke and lack of a decent non-smoking area. As smoking in public buildings is now outlawed...the pain of walking in to a smoke-filled casino is more annoying than in the past. (Clearly I'm a non-smoker, so this review is biased. But non-smokers don't buy cigarettes and thus have more money to gamble.)
(2)Matthew T.
Seriously one of the worst most depressing casinos I've been in. Rude staff and no automatic shufflers. They stop serving at 1:30 so don't get there after that. Also getting a shuttle is amazingly difficult and they only take you to a few select locations. The place is also filthy and filled with smoke.

the family came to the dells for 3.5 days.. when told that ho-chunk buffet was only a 15 min drive and dinner was only $12.99, we decided to give it a go on a saturday.. it wasn't busy which is good.. the main entrance where the escalators were was set up really nice.. makes you feel like you're outdoors.. when we got to the buffet area, we were told it was $30 given it was prime rib night.. we went to read the sign which stated dinner is $12.99 and prime rib (saturday) is $30.. i can see the confusion there.. maybe re-do the sign to have it say dinner - $12.99 from monday through friday only? mind you there are 17 of us so that would be a $500 bill just for buffet and only 5-7 would be eating the prime rib.. we told the guy at the register that we wouldn't be joining since it would be $30 pp.. he asked where we were from and we told him from out of state.. we started scrambling to find another place to go eat.. we even asked others in the group to see if they wanted to go apply for ho-chunk's rewards card so that we can get $5 off our meal for each individual person.. my brother decided to go ask the guy at the register to see if he can discount each person $5 without having to go apply for the rewards card IF we decide to stay which he said yes! so we stayed to eat.. my wife and i thought the food was on point and very flavorful.. they may not have the biggest selection but everything was delicious! my wife said this was the best casino food she's ever eaten.. not just that but the dessert selection was huge.. we definitely recommend coming here..

This place blows. They took a HO CHUNK of my money! Can't even have a little fun...sucked. Also, I am a smoker and the amount of smoke in the casino is terrible. They need a better ventilation system. I didn't even want to smoke while we were there it was so bad. Slot areas are dirty with overfilled ashtrays and half cups of soda and garbage. We never ever win here. Not even $20! This is my last time donating to the HC Nation.

I haven't won much the last few times I've been here, but, as far as casinos go this one isn't bad. It's big, with an attached hotel and venue for shows/music/whatever. Several years ago I won back to back Royal Flushes on the 25 cent video poker . Well, not exactly back to back but pretty darn close. The guy next to me was pretty amazed, dumbfounded, pissed maybe because he told me he almost sat down at the machine I won on. Anyway, I always think that maybe I can do that again, but sadly, no such luck. So, it's good I don't live close enough to get there very often. We visit there whenever we get to the Dells and I guess I would have to say that lately I have more frequently made a donation rather than a withdrawal. There is a bar upstairs that is open for Happy Hour and later. Did get a four of a kind there many years ago, but, so sad, no luck lately! Whatever, if you are are into casinos at all this isn't a bad one to visit, if you're in the neighborhood!

Girlfriend and I are new to casinos so we went to the guest services desk for some help/location of bar/etc. Woman was rude and dismissive. At the bar we experienced the same thing - bartender didn't acknowledge our existence and was then rude when we asked for the prices of a few drinks. Will never be back. Lose your money elsewhere.

Hit me! If I say I want to try the Standrock Buffett again. We went to Ho-Chunk for a concert and wanted to eat beforehand. Steakhouse needed reservations, cafe was closed on a Saturday night! And the sports bar had a nasty bar food Buffett. So we stood in line for the Standrock Buffett. It was prime rib and crab night and $21 a person. Nasty! Table was dirty, booth seats all ripped up. The food was cold were it should be hot and warm were it should be cold. The prime rib was so rare I thought it was mooing on my plate. Spare your intestinal track the horror and eat before you go to Ho-Chunk.
(1)Robert D.
The rooms at the hotel are nice, a little dark though. Stand rock buffet is great! Food is good, big selection, at a very good price. The waitstaff is a bit slow at refilling drinks, but I would recommend it. The casino has a huge selection of games, some winners, some losers.
(4)Ryan P.
By far the worst casino I have ever been too. All of the crew working tables are extremely rude and very unpleasant. I will never spend another dime there due to the fact of how rude the tabernacle crews are! Worst casino experience ever!
(1)Kristine N.
Buffet line is ridiculous. Stood in line for 2 hours and they said it was going to be anothe couple of hours. Bummed I couldn't try it. Went to the restaurant nearby, it's alright. Decent simple sandwiches and salads. Dealers are nice, lots of table options (no pai gow), and I saw tables with $5 minimums. You can smoke cigarettes at the tables but no chew and no cigars, what gives?!
(4)Jerome H.
I am disheartening about this place I went to the kids place and the woman cheated me out of 30 dollars I gave her 50 dollars and she said I give her 20 I did not have any twenties in my pocket .I had brand new fifties that the serial numbers would match up and she there's no fifties in the draw.

I have experienced several casinos in the last year in WI and MN. This one just didnt impress me. First off their players card program was horrible...no free play until you earn 10 points, and 1 point is $10 in play...we showed up at like 10 and usually play penny slots so there wasnt any hope at us getting there... Now we both put in $20, he walked away with $70 and i walked away with $27, so you would think that since we both came out on top it would be better rated, but we just werent impressed with this place.

Let's see. We had lunch in the wa zo wah bar. Nothing else to say except terrible; well maybe a few things to say. Group ordered twp brandy old fashioneds which were described by the orderers as dreadful. I ordered a fat tire tap which was room temperature. I had to ask for a frosted mug to chill it. Chicken sandwiches and beef sandwiches appeared to have been desiccated, then cooked to a zero moisture dryness. Bone dry! Waffle fries were good, steak fries were greasy and very soggy. Service was fine. Our waitress warned us away from the soup and walleye. I shudder to think how bad these must be. Our own waitress said the soup "looks terrible" . If only she had just said that about everything else. She would have earned her tip just for that. I know ho chunk has a gambling monopoly and captive audience, but this place is simply embarrassing. I will not be returning to the casino or this establishment any time soon. The lack of attention to quality is truly shocking. If not for the sevice, I would give this place negative stars.

This review is also for the Stand Rock Buffet. Every time we're in town (which is usually once a year), we always come here for the crab leg nights. The crab legs are really, really good. Other than that, the food in general is a mixed bag of fried choices, a salad and soup bar, and the occasional special near the back. The dessert ranges from ice cream to a fine selection of pies, cheesecakes, and even a sugar free section. The staff are friendly, but I do wish they would come around with napkins more than once. Our table of 12 were constantly fighting for napkins. Other than that, getting refills or anything else was speedy and spot on. Overall, nice place if you're looking for basic casino buffet food. Not the best, but most certainly not the worst.

Ugh. This review is for the Blow-Chunks Boooo-ffet. Need I say more?? Okay, if you insist... Booooooooooooooooo!!

This review is specifically for the Wo Zha Wa Restaurant. The Casino itself is fun- even if I don't win.... We went to this restaurant because 5 of us wanted a burger or sandwich before a concert. The doors for the concert opened at 6. We got to the restaurant at 4:50. The server was nice- but not really on the ball. We had to keep flagging him down. We ordered 3 burgers and 2 Reubens. Nothin fancy. And we were just having bottles of beer and water. After waiting 30 minutes- he came out and said "The kitchen is really backed up. Let me bring you some Nachos." Ok... after another 20 minutes we asked umm hey where is the food? Finally at 5:55 out comes the food- 3 Patty Melts., 2 Reubens which had barely been warmed on one side let alone a nice toasty bread. The Steak Fries were not really warm and not well cooked. The Waffle Fries were fine. Next to us a table of 6 we see are getting their whole check comped because of the service also. Unfortunately we had a different server so no deal for us. I am sorry but the seating is not all that cramped here that they are pushing out 50 tables at a time. Waiting an hour for burgers and sandwiches is unacceptable. Because of the lateness of the food- my 87 year old Mother-in-law ended up in the last row of the concert....

This review is only for the Stand Rock Buffet. I was in town for business and it was recommended that I try the buffet by an associate so I thought it would be a good choice. I was WRONG! I went on a Tuesday night about 6pm. I didn't expect it to be real crowded and I was right but you wouldn't know that by the 15 minute wait in the line. There were only about 8 people in line in front of me so I didn't understand the wait. After sitting down I went to the salad bar, it was ok. One really odd thing was that all of the dressings were in bottles. Not horrible just odd. Next I tried the fried rice and beef stir fry......the fried rice was not like any I have ever had before. It was very very greasy and lacked any flavor. The peas in it were shriveled up dry green balls. Very off putting. The beef stir fry was just steak in au jus. Not very good at all. After this I went for the chunky potato cheese soup. It was ok but not very warm. I also tried the stuffing (blah gray tasteless glob) and the potato skin (greasy and gross). The ribs were ok. They fell off the bone and were tender. The mashed potatoes and gravy had a horrible taste....I took one bite and wouldn't eat any more. The veal roll had the stuffing in it so I picked that out. Other than that the veal roll was ok. Desert was ok. Nothing to write home about. It seems as though everything is frozen products that only require the staff to heat it up and put it out there. Old Country Buffet does a better job and that is saying something since most of them are not very good. In short - stay away from here!!!!!!!!!!

The best buffet in the world. There was amazing lots of crab legs so delicious. I ate a ton!

Me & my friend ventured to Wisconsin Dells & decided to stay at The Ho-Chunk Casino. It was a little bit of Las Vegas in Wisconsin Dells. When we checked in the staff was friendly & courteous. They directed us in the direction of the concierge so we could go sign up for player cards to earn points while we were in the casino. As soon as we walked into the casino the biggest difference I could tell right away from any casino in Illinois is that people were smoking. I don't smoke but this didn't bother me. The casino was pretty big. It was a lot bigger than Rivers Casino in Des Plaines & bigger than the Grand Victoria in Elgin. The casino was clean & the staff was once again friendly. Afterwards we headed to our rooms & we were not disappointed. The rooms were nice & equipped with a flat screen television & a balcony. We were looking forward to heading to the pool but both the pool & the hot tub were closed. This upset us a little but we just decided to go into town & go to some of our favorite places. Overall this is a good hotel to stay at if you don't care about giant water slides & you would prefer a more adult atmosphere. I would stay here again because the staff was friendly, the casino was big & the rooms were nice.

Spent a bit less than an hour on the floor of the casino on Tuesday, 6/26/2012, in the late afternoon. This was our first visit here. First impression: They have a large no smoking section of the casino. Nice! We saw that they had blackjack tables set up in this area, but no live games were being dealt when we were there. We noticed several kiosks where patrons can help themselves to coffee, water and soft drinks; no charge. Nice touch! Video Poker: Yep... they have video poker areas in both the no smoking part of the casino and also in the main room, including a progressive jackpot video poker bank. I played double-double bonus; the dollar game was 9/5. The quarter game was 7/5. I'm a dice player, thus disappointed to see that they had one and only one craps table in operation. To boot, I saw that they only have two dice tables, in total, for the whole casino. Huh? WTF? They pimp their craps game on TV ads, Online and in print, and then only have one dice game going and a total of only two tables for the whole casino? What's wrong with this picture? I didn't play dice 'cuz I wouldn't have been able to get a position... numerous people were waiting on the peripheral and the table was jammed. I was none too happy about this and let my feelings known to the dice "pit" supervisor.... a one-game supervisor at that! (LOL). The casino was busy.... Lots of gray hairs and a good quality crowd. Three stars given due to only having two dice tables for the casino with only one working table on a busy, summer afternoon. Shame on the HoChunk management.

Sunrise Cafe is a wonderful breakfast stop. It may be great food at other times but that was our recent experience. The omelettes were delicious and a good price. The veggie scramble was great. Can't go wrong at Sunrise.
(4)Austin E.
this casino is decent sized and the exterior and interior look great BUT the slot machines itself are badly outdated and tight tight tight. i went in the winter time and the place was really dead. they had 2 poker cash games going at 1130 pm on a sunday night that impressed me some what. I am going back Tuesday to play the 1pm poker tournament and probably some cash. hopefully the poker action makes up for the outdated tight slots. the whole town is pretty annoying to me. NOT IMPRESSED.

We stayed here for our honeymoon becasue we got married in the dells, not only did we get comped the honeymoon sweet, we had a beautiful room with a kitchen and jacuzzi along with a living room and a balcony..the shower with ten heads in it was like a massage, all it was missing was the happy ending..lol..The staff was wonderful and we got a great discount on my failys room too..The buffet was enormous, it was seafood when we went, which I dont care for, but there was lots of other things to munch on and it was all very tastey, except the tacos, yuck.. I do have to say some of the servers were very grumpy and frowning, and not friendly. Also the floor was so sticky that my flip flops kept coming off! Gross! It was extremley crowded also..the ribs n chicken were very good though

Hits: Happy dealers, quick drive, and gambling. Misses: Indoor smoking. (Probably a plus for most gamblers.) Hints: Go for late night bingo - it is cheap and a hillarious time. (Just drink before hand as there is no booze in the Bingo hall. Bottom-line: It is an Indian Casio, slightly sad...but cheap, fun, and well run. Worth the visit and laughs.

Off season gambling looks depressing, I wonder how much livelier it is during vaca times. But on another note, as far as location and gaming offered it's a nicer layout than what we have at home (currently March 2011) in Chicagoland. Free coffee and soda areas. Tons and tons of slots, I got tired walking the circumference of the place searching for my dear friends. A good workout thought at 4 am. Also, AT&T signal blows inside their common areas, WTF At&t. The venue looks brand spanking new, it's clean and the place looks immaculate. I'm saying in comparison to some of the casino's I've been to in and around Gary, IN. As far as card tables and roulette wheels, these are games which they offer very few of in comparison to the hundreds of machines.
(4)Sherri D.
The buffet is absolutely the worst food I have ever had. NOTHING there tastes good at all. The desserts look good.....but have NO flavor at all. It reminds me of the buffet in the movie Vegas Vacation! For 23 dollars on a Saturday night...No thanks!
(1)Jennifer C.
I don't gamble so this review is on the Stand Rock buffet and the hotel. My mom was one of the speakers at the Avon convention so I stayed there last night. Another person booked and payed for my mom's room, however, they said they wanted a card for incidentals. Well, to make a long story short they ended up charging my mom's card and gave her the receipt when we said we were checking out so now my mom is having to appeal this charge through her bank. Yuck!! As far as the Stand Rock buffet, this is quite scary. I went this morning for breakfast and I had a pool of grease on my plate from where the omlette was. The French toast was very dried out and blah, the waffle was not great but the best of the bunch. I went back for lunch, unfortunately because my mom had free passes. I had the salad bar which was ok, better than breakfast. For dessert, I had the sugar free apple pie (which was a nightmare do not get this) and vanilla fro yo which was good. In summary, I am not a fan of this place and would not recommend it.
(1)Dani K.
No free booze but tell me what Wisconsin casino does. Smoking allowed but tell me what Wisconsin casino doesn't. You lose money but tell me what casino won't. /endrant. It's located away from the heart of the Dells and may be confusing to get to the first time but it's easier after that. The place is huge, bigger than Oneida but not Potawatomi. There are (I believe) four or five pits but only two or three have been open when I've been here. Their table minimums have always been decent and I much appreciate that; it allows everyone the opportunity to play and not feel like they're getting robbed. They have a little food counter that's open 24 hours and though its service is a bit slow, the prices aren't too shabby for a casino and the food isn't bad. It's a nice place to retreat to when you lost that hundred dollars in five minutes.
(4)Alicia M.
A couple friends and I went down to play craps. They only have 2 craps tables and only had 1 staffed and running which sucked because the energy was all wrong at the table. We couldn't even leave the table and try a different one.
(3)Leah W.
This was the worst buffet we have ever had. First impression was good, there was a long line and everyone in line said it was great. From the first employee we encountered to the food, everything was horrible. Employees seemed more interested in being social with coworkers than helping anyone. The dining room needs to be cleaned and updated. There were lots of crab legs but the other food was horrible. Something that was being called clam chowder was absolutely horrible, there was very little clam, we think there might have been pureed potatoes in it, maybe some carrots. All the other food was overcooked and old. The deserts were actually awesome, but not enough to save the buffet, I didn't put my name on the comment card because I could not bear the thought of coming back if they offered any kind of comped buffet passes.
(1)Jon V.
Went to play BlackJack, and it was non-existent. Waste of time as I do not put a penny in any slots.
(1)Jim M.
This place makes the OTB's in Chicago look classy. The poker room was ridiculous. Small, dirty and tacky. The chairs were one step up from metal folding chairs. There were maybe a dozen tables and while only two were being used, there was a huge waiting list. I didn't even play. The rest of the casino is a million slot machines and a few table games. Awful. They did have $1 cans of Miller High Life which most of the folks roaming the floor of this tragedy seemed to be reduced to drinking after spending an hour or so on the incredibly tight slots. The New Glarus Brewing Spotted Cow was only $3.75... the lone bright spot. If you're bored in this part of Wisconsin don't do it! Just circle the wagons because based on what I could tell from the video poker pay out schedule... they're still holding a grudge.
(1)Jasmin M.
I'm probably biased because this was my first casino experience, and I won a little money, too. Mostly I enjoyed winning money and being able to drink and smoke at the same time INDOORS lol. They have a shuttle bus to pick you up from your hotel and drop you off again for free, which was great. The drinks were cheap, the coffee was free, and I had a great time watching a couple win big and then lose big at blackjack. I don't gamble, so I just went for the new experience. We arrived late, so I didn't get to check out the food or bingo, but will the next time I'm in the Dells.
(4)Mrs K.
We have only eatten Wed Seafood buffet. But you eatten there and you are a seafood fan, watch out!! so much food to pick out from. The crab legs are just so yummy and worth the drive and all that cracking you have to do. But don't worry, they hand you a handy little tool for cracking those crab legs. A family member loves frog legs and she gets her fill there. And all kinds of shrimps, even Bubaa in Forest Gump would be proud. And the good thing is,even though it's seafood buffet, they still serve up some awesome juicy prime rib and chicken too. Just make sure to sign up for thier Reward Card before you head upstairs, so you can get some discount.
(5)Alex S.
Call ahead poker reservation. Most table games with tons of slots, bingo, and horse betting. Steak house was very good. The bone in rib eye good, however not as good as Flemming's. Only place in Wisconson I saw girls that were under a size 8.
(3)Georgio M.
This is more of a review of the Ho Chunk Buffet than it is of the casino. Just outside of Wisconsin Dells, in the quaint conservative town of Baraboo, awaits the Ho Chunk Casino. You can spot this colossal structure from miles away, as the building's beige and sky blue colors are hard to miss. In some ways, I guess you could say Ho Chunk looks like some of the off-strip casinos in Las Vegas, simply because of the large electric sign on the front of the property. As far as casino's go, Ho Chunk is very big, and has all the slot machines and poker tables you could ever hope for. There is even a bingo hall at the very back of the building with a large cash pot and lots of players. If you are going to visit Ho Chunk just to gamble, then you won't be disappointed. Please heed this writer's advice when I suggest you not eat at the buffet! If you take the escalator to the second floor, you will see this terrible joke of a buffet. Rightfully dubbed "Stand Rock Buffet" the food is every bit as tasteless and disgusting as a hard rock. We paid $15.00 each for a prime rib and shrimp dinner, and were painfully disappointed. Once inside of Stand Rock, you will be seated in a 1960s styled eating area, with drab colors and small tables. If you are lucky enough to get a clean plate, you can approach the buffet. Nearly each and every item offered at Stand Rock was greasy, fried, hard and disgusting. I'm convinced the fish, chicken meat and even vegetables are frozen and pre-packaged. It was difficult to eat, and later digest the poor quality food at this buffet. For a price of $15.00 a person, one would expect the dishes to at least be fresh. The desserts were equally gross. They have a scant amount of cakes on display near the cold entrees, all of which looked as if they had been sitting there for hours. The cake and cookies were so hard, so brittle, and so stale that I couldn't swallow them. If you have read any of my reviews, then you know I do my best to be fair to businesses, as well as remain positive. When it comes to Ho Chunk Buffet, I have nothing positive to say other than buyer beware.

On a recent trip back from Madison, we decided "spur-of-the-moment" to go ahead and gamble a little bit at the Ho-Chuck Casino. I typically dislike slot machines, but had a great time for the few hours we were there. We both got hooked on a penny slot machine called "Lady Belle," a Southern, riverboat themed game. I sound like a gamblaholoic, but the game was incredibly addictive. Still, during all that time we ended up leaving the casino breaking even. The casino itself is intriguing, and fun just to walk around. There are retail booths with lots of Indian merchandise for sale, as well as nature themed artwork and ambiance. All-in-all a very nice experience for a casino.

The clouds of smoke in this place really get to me after a few hours. There are only two craps tables (both were playing $5 bets around midnight on a Friday), a handful of $5 Blackjack tables, more $10 Blackjack and other card games going on, two Roulette tables, and lots and lots of slots. I played poker here a year ago, but didn't make it there this past trip and it was OK. The physical decor and such of the place isn't bad, the buffet was pretty gross when I last had it, but what do you expect when you're in Wisconsin Dells?

3.5 stars. Their wednesday night seafood buffet is superb and always packed. The crab legs they serve are actually some of the larger ones I've come across, and the other items were pleasing as well. The buffet on other nights is hit or miss. I like it, but I like buffets. Other people do not like it, as evidenced by reviews here. It's not worse than dog food by any means. The ribs and baked chicken are really good, as is the bread pudding and the cheesecake selections they have. The casino is either really tight, or I'm really unlucky. It's the only casino I've ever left empty handed from every time playing the machines. I enjoy 'caveman keno' and also enjoy the 100 hand poker machines (ho-chunk has just one left and it's usually taken) .. one thing I do like is I can set the keno machine on 'auto-play' here, but it doesn't do any good if it just bleeds me dry, but hey, that's how casinos are supposed to work. :) It's a large casino, far larger than any in South Dakota for sure. The smoking section can get really smoky even on slow nights, unfortunately. But I support smoker's rights so meh. Worth a visit if you are in the dells, like seafood, want to spend a few bucks, or like buffet style meals and don't want kids around.

Made an impromptu visit during a recent vacation. The casino is very nice and very clean. Was there on a week night (late), it was empty! I was told they get a good crowd on the weekend. Wanted something to eat, restaurants and buffet were closed so we reluctantly went to snack shop. What a fooler! Their fried chicken dinner was awesome! They also have a lot of other dinners, sandwiches, salads, etc. on the menu. I would love to return again, maybe with a group of people to liven the place up!

The casino is nice for an Indian Casino. It has a hotel attached and rooms during the week are about $59 during the week. The casino is standard, a poker room, slot machines, gaming tables and bingo room. Most of the slot machines have selectable line amounts either penny or 5 cents and you can bet multiple lines. Tables at night ( were were there around 7pm) were about $10.00 a hand. They had a small snack bar near the poker room that was cash only and sold cheese fries, pizza bread , ect. Soda, Coffee , Tea are free but you have to pay for alcohol. The great thing about Ho-Chunk is that is right by the Dells and it's a great thing to do for a few hours especially in winter when most of the out door water adventures are closed.

So we check into our hotel (The Atlantis, which was equally bad) and come to the Ho Chunk Casino. I wanted to spend a weekend in Vegas, but we didn't have the funds so we decided to come here to the Dells instead. First of all, the casino is just slots. There were very few table games and I hate slots. The poker room was okay. I played for a couple hours and wound up breaking even while my wife played bingo. The poker room is separate from the hotel and you have to drive there or take their shuttle which is absurd. The buffet in this place was god awful. I had been told what a great buffet this was by some co workers. Boy were they wrong. Basically, the buffet at Circus Circus in Las Vegas makes this joint look like a freaking 5 star gourmet restaurant. Save your money and go 2 hours the other way if you live in Chicago to the Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo, MI.

I always have a good time there playing 21, the dealers for the most part are very friendly, and helpful(if you need help). Listen to a man who knows though people, fore the sake of all that is good, and worth listening too, DO NOT PUT ANY GODDAMN MONEY INTO THE SLOTS HERE!!!!!! These slots are tighter than a frogs ass, and quite frankly, you'd be a fool to play them. The Blackjack, and Craps here are a good time though.

i'm tempted to give ho-chunk a 5 star review for the guy stopping me at the door demanding to know how old i was. (i'm 31!) the food was worse than i thought it would be, but everything else lived up to my expectations. elderly wisconsinites and vaguely trucker-looking dudes smoking like chimneys throwing money into slots. the chiming machines, blinking lights, and smokey haze lulled me into wasting $20 on slots. to be fair though, a co-worker or mine just won $12,000 playing a keno machine, so people DO win sometimes.

Man, do I feel old! I wasn't even carded coming in. :p Typical casino for the Midwest. Lots of crappy slot machines and some card tables. We played Blackjack which was fun. I might get some flack here but I wish they'd go smoke-free. I had to take a shower after getting back to my hotel because I smelled so awful. The on-site restaurant choices didn't thrill me either.

WOW. The worst food experience I have ever had! The food tasted like it had been sitting out for days. The seafood was not fresh and its foulness cut through despite being deep fried. The cheesecake had a hardened shell around it from sitting out so long. Everything was stale, the place was dirty, and it was one of the most awful and depressing eating experiences of my life. At 15 bucks per person, I at least wanted to eat one thing that wasn't stale or overcooked, but that did not happen. Afterwards, my boyfriend and I both felt sick and it was positively the worst money ever spent on food.

Ho-Chunk was my first casino experience, back when you could still get in at the age of 18 (its now 21 to enter). Plenty of slot machines (from penny to dollar) and table games to choose from. During really busy times (Christmas Day apparently is a busy time) it can be hard to get a seat at a $5 blackjack table but is a lot of fun once you do--especially since you never know who else is sitting at the table--could be a couple traveling from Florida in their Airstream, or someone who went to school with your aunts. There is a very good restaurant in the hotel/convention center--steaks and seafood with what I thought was a slightly Italian/euro-eclectic influence. Overall very clean but some of the slot aisles are cramped and hard to maneuver--especially when the oxygen-tank set is in full force.

I typically will not patronize Indian casinos, not because I have anything against indians, but because they are notorious for having very tight slots due to lack of competition. I would much rather go to Vegas and try my hand at the looser slots on Fremont Street. But in the middle of Wisconsin where Vegas is only a flight of the imagination, you go here when you want to gamble, and how can you pass up a place with this name anyhow? I'm naturally apprehensive when we get there, but like a cat checking out a dripping faucet, I'm nervous, yet irresistably drawn. Well it turns out my theory was either flawed or I'm an anomoly because third quarter in, I hit a 125 dollar jackpot. So now I love indian casinos (so long as they're named Ho-Chunk and in Wisconsin).

Pretty large casino full of swollen, elderly smokers pumping dollars into slots. The kind of casino you might see in Vegas back in beginning. Except replace the mobsters with rural Wisconsinites. No fancy shows, or theme casino here, just good old fashion red carpet, and various other colors that make your eyes hurt after hours. The game tables are nice but the poker tent is like 190 degrees. You don't get free alcohol so don't go if that is what you are into. All in all a good casino experience.

If you are ever in the area and you are a casino fan than be sure to stop by here. There are some big differences between this casino and the casinos in the Chicago area. There is a large selection of low minimum tables and the majority of the machines are low minimum too. It is much easier to stretch your dollar here than it is in any Chicago area casino. Many of the people here of from Chicago who are on vacation. It is a pretty big casino and while there is always a good size crowd here it never gets uncomfortably packed. I always have fun here but I always lose. I have never won a dime here and I usually win something whenever I go to a casino around Chicago.
