So we were originally excited that there was a brew pub in this area... When we came here it looked as though there are 3 different offerings. The first one looked as though that's where the early dinner goers like to dine. The middle one was a bar that offered the food from both. The third offered mainly burgers and pubfare- and the lady in the third restaurant was super nice explaining the different areas, i now wish we would have stayed there. We went with the middle section and were created with essentially a stare from the bartender/server guy... A hello or welcome would have been nice. And no, I didn't know that there is another list in the back corner on the wall of the beers you currently offer and that the beer list just listed all the beers you make. It was pretty odd that each time he would come to our table he would just stare at us and not say anything- or you know, ask if we have any questions or are ready to order.... Etc. Nope, not a peep. Though, he enjoyed loudly throwing the empty beer bottles into recycling... But I just may have been taking more notice because I was irritated with the lack of service. There was another bartender/server there with a beard who was friendly and came up to us asking if we enjoyed dinner. Thank you for speaking new beard guy! After we got our check the original blonde server guy with glasses finally asked us how we liked our food, but then we waited for over 15 minutes before finally coming up to the bar to pay. The only reason I didn't put down 1 star is because the rest of the staff seemed super friendly and personable. Ugh.

Stopped here last summer on our way back to Ohio from visiting Wisconsin. The setup looks amazing on the inside, and the bar is awesome. The IPA I had was fantastic. Plus they had an all you can eat buffet next door that was very affordable. I think if I lived near here, i'd be more than a regular at this place!

Overall...a very nice experience. I had to try one of their beers on tap so I stopped in. I started looking over the menu and was impressed by the options and so I ordered the garden vegetable burger. The waiter/bar tender was very nice, food came in an acceptable amount of time, and the burger was good. The sweet potato fries were delicious, too. The woodwork in the bar area is impressive and gives the room an added sense of charm. If you are in town, check this place out.

We were in Ashland and we were hungry, so of course, I turned to Yelp to find an option. The word "brewery" and four stars meant that we made a beeline for the Deep Water Grille. The brewery itself was fun -- as you might expect, there's a nautical theme and a little bit of touristy kitsch, but not really in a bad way. We took the opportunity to fill in those in our party who were not familiar with the story of the Edmund Fitzgerald over lunch, so at least it was a talking point. The beer was pretty decent. Our party as a whole sampled four or five of them. There was nothing mindblowing, but everything we ordered was crisp, fresh and pretty tasty. Our food was average to good. I got a cheeseburger, which was fine and came with some pretty tasty fries. My husband got the whitefish sandwich, which was humongous and was reported to be good. We got an order of wings for the table and found those to be really good, nice and big, served in a huge bowl and with a big bowl of homemade bleu cheese to go with it. We seriously had to stop someone we were with (who shall remain nameless) from licking the bowl. They really should bottle and sell the stuff. Delicious. We splurged and got dessert and found the creme brulee to be good, though I will say the layer of sugar was a bit on the thick side. Don't worry -- we managed to cope. Our server was friendly and very on point, handling our party of six with three separate checks with ease. Next time we're in town, I would say it's highly likely we'll be back.

This place was okay. The Brown Nut Ale Beer Cheese Soup was great. Definitely try that. They had a featured Bloody Mary on their menu with a chaser. I never pass up an opportunity to try a bloody but was unimpressed. For being a house made mix and featured drink, it was more of a watered down tomato juice. For food I ordered a wrap. It was just okay, nothing memorable. We were out with some family members and many of them ordered the fish fry which looked good. Also, upon arriving we parked in the back of the restaurant. Seeing multiple employees "hanging out" and smoking probably isn't a great first impression.

Hotel recommended this place without hesitation. We see why! Great ambiance, not too noisy, New Orleans vibe. I had seared tuna which was perfectly done, with pork slices, jasmine rice and avocado mousse! Jan had the Korean Pork Tenderloin. She loved the medallions, jasmine rice, and spices! Craft beers, balcony seating. Very, very cool place for foodies!

Try the WPA (Wisconsin Pale Ale) and Stout. Because I did. And I liked them both. Banh Mi Sandwich was top notch too. Classic bar in a small WI town. A1.
(5)Gary B.
We ate here twice while on vacation. The food and beer were a solid 4 star, but service was 3. Our order was delayed the first night, and the second had an absent waiter.
(3)Annette R.
Excellent service and we highly recommend the lava cake. That's a must have. I great place to dine in Ashland
(5)Jami J.
Went here with a group of 9 people. Groups can be difficult but our waitress did a good job. I had the garlic pesto caesar salad with grilled chicken. The dressing was impressive. It tasted kind of like a mix between caesar and creamy garlic. Their beers are also good. I had the Bavarian Wheat which tasted similar to a Blue Moon and I had the Rhoades Scholar Stout which was my favorite.
(4)William W.
My only complaint is they do not honor the reservations though they will take them. They gave our booth away without asking the people they gave it to if they have reservations. I consider that extremely rude and inexcusable. Their food is great, but not worth the aggravation.
(2)Heidi E.
Dinner on a Friday night. Hubby ordered the king-sized prime rib and clam chowder and enjoyed both! I had a turkey wrap and side salad. Everything was fresh and tasty and service was solid, too. Drink prices were very reasonable.
(4)Bob W.
Super duper everything! Great waitress who advised well re food and drink choices. NOT NOISY full house and can still converse! Great food:locally grown, sourced and supported. Make this your must stop in Ashland. Awesomeness, really hard to make a menu choice: there were so many good options. The Superior Whitefish had great flavor and was cooked perfectly. The mushroom risotto had great mushroom flavor. The nut Brown Ale was also good.
(4)Zena K.
Great food, great atmosphere, friendly servers. I had the Angus burger with bacon, mushrooms and Swiss cheese, medium, and it was not only lunch, but dinner for me as well; in other words, a pretty big burger for a 120-ish lb person. Highly recommend the beer cheese soup as well; served with popcorn and great as a dipping soup. 9/10, would definitely recommend.
(5)Jeremy N.
The atmosphere of the place is great! All-aged people are here. The food is not that original (burgers, fried food, salad...) but the staff is very helpful and nice. That is the typical kind of bar&restaurant we expected to see in this area. If you go to ashland, be sure to check this place.
(5)Jeremy B.
order a Med rare bacon cheeseburger. Do not order the pizza and wing buffet
(3)Mira S.
Good food, four stars might be generous, but not for the area I don't think. Huge restaurant with tons of seating, and yet a wait, so it seems like THE food spot in the area. Parking lot next to it. Decent beer, although they only had 5 on tap, none and IPA. The lavender ale was good, my friend thought it was too laverdarey, but I liked it. The coffee stout had a strong flavor, but was good. Jalapeno cheese curds were good, black bean burger didn't hold together but was tasty. The raspberry dressing on the salads looked like ketchup but tasted okay. The meatball sub was pretty good, nothing super special or amazing, but good, not dry, and 2 meals' worth.

This place is fantastic! Best meal I've had in a restaurant all year. First - THE BEER! My husband ordered the nut brown ale and it is to die for! And we are not fans of darker beer at all normally. I had the Northern Lights which was OUT OF THIS WORLD amazing, smooth, light with a hint of lavender. I went and bought 3 cases of it across the street at the liquor store before we went home to Minnesota the next day. We had the roasted red pepper spinach artichoke dip. Very very good. I loved that they offered veggies with it to dip in. I've never seen my 5 year old scarf down veggies the way she did with that dip. That says something for sure! Now onto the entrees... we both ordered the whitefish. I had cajun grilled which was fantastic and NOT spicy at all, just flavorful. My husband had the broiled. It was excellent too. My 5 year old loved it as well. The dill type tartar sauce they serve with the fish is also fantastic. I can't believe this place has any bad reviews, because honestly I thought it was TOP NOTCH. Cute atmosphere too, and very unassuming from the outside, since it just looks like an old building. If we ever come back to Ashland again, there is no way we could eat anywhere but here. And I am going to be very sad when my stash of beer runs out... :)
(5)Ally G.
Chicken nachos are delicious! Wasn't a fan of their beer, but fun to sample them! Margarita was very tasty. Great place for he location. Cool how it's three different restaurants/places in one

What's good here? + The wings are good, although I sometimes find them undercooked; ask them for well done. Whiskey wings are good, and these are solid Buffalo wings. + The Garlic Caesar Salad is unique; it's definitely not a "traditional" Caesar salad, but it has great flavor. + The burgers are good as well. They have a nice char to them, and are cooked to order, which is pretty rare in N. Wisconsin. There's also a wide variety of toppings. The ridiculously titled "Curd Burgler" is surprisingly good, although I like the classic back alley burger. The quality of the burgers says to me highly experienced and competent kitchen staff. You give them good ingredients, and they know what they're doing. After that, less good. Most of the ingredients seem to be Sysco, and one beautiful blonde waitress aside, some of the service could be better. I imaging this is an issue of inept management. Take, for example, the DWG's rules on ordering--i.e. the most asinine menu system in town: If you face the building, there are technically three different "restaurants," although people, including servers, seems to move fluidly between them all. - On the left is "The Alley," named for the alley it was built on. - In the middle is the South Shore Brewery (essentially the bar). - On the right is the Deepwater Grille, which also has a bar, but more extensive menu. Got that?: Alley (A), South Shore Brewery (SSB), and the Deepwater Grille (DWG). Now, each of these sections has its own menu. And on each of these menus, there are many of the same items. - If you sit in the SSB, you can order Burgers from the Alley or entrees from the DWG, but this section has the least amount of tables. - If you're in the DWG, you can order only from the DWG or the SSB (these menus seem identical). - If you're in the Alley, you can order from the Alley menu, and some of the items from SSB, but not the DWG (even though these menus seem identical). - If you want a menu item from, say, the SSB, servers will sometimes refuse to get it for you, but suggest that you get it yourself. (All of these kitchens are connected, BTW.) In short, where you sit dictates the food you can order. The DWG now offers delivery, so I suggest that if you are refused an item, just whip out your cell phone and order delivery to the next bar. This place used to be a lot better. Great cooks, great beer, but there's room for improvement.

Had the whitefish BLT and it was very tasty. The Coffee Mint Stout was to die for.
(4)Geoff P.
Food is very good and the beer is absolutely tremendous. We split the appetizer special of the night (poblano pepper stuffed with chorizo and manchego cheese and covered in a red mole sauce) and easily could have made a meal out of that alone. The meal itself was good, but nothing significantly unique or special. (Except for the asparagus spears with the pork chop. They were done extremely well.) I would come back again, but mostly for the Northern Lights Cream Ale. The beer was spectacular.
(4)Briana C.
Husband and I had a great dinner here! We love brewpubs, and the beer really was fantastic. We had the stuffed Reuben and a steak salad, both were great. We definitely will come back here next time we are in town.
(4)Dawn S.
The beer sampler was great. The burgers were good and they didn't mind maKing mine on pumpernickel. Yum.
(4)Anne B.
South Shore you've done it again. Delicious brews and incredible food. Ribeye filet was cooked perfectly and had really good flavor. My fiancé had a sweet and spicy burger and loved it.
(5)Betsy N.
This is the best restaurant in the area. I spent four days in the Northwoods and visited Bayfield and Ashland. This was by far the best place we ate. The rice soup was so good I stopped for lunch and had another cup. Other good choices were the whitefish and lava cake. The salmon and peach salad was unique and tasty. The service is friendly too! I loved the nut brown ale, but would like to see a few more choices. Great food, great place!
(5)Patty D.
Best whitefish sandwich I've ever had!!! The wild rice soup is also excellent. Staff are courteous and friendly. Will return here every time we visit the area. There are three different sections in one location, so going in can be a bit confusing, but once you find the spot you prefer, the rest is all enjoyment.
(5)Rachel B.
The Grilled Chicken and Peach Salad was very tasty. I loved it! The waitress was so busy that she was walking away from the table before we finished answering her questions, but the good was great!
(4)Jen M.
This place was great. It was our last stop in Ashland and we had to check out the brewery. The Pumpkin Ale was amazing. I wish I would have taken a growler home with me, since they weren't yet selling it in the local stores. We did take home a growler of the Nut Brown ale. Not only was the beer great, but our meals were fantastic. We had the crap dip crostini to start, and the vegetable enchiladas and the grilled salmon with shrimp ravioli for our entrees. We were not disappointed in the least. Our food was so delicious, savory and fresh. I would highly recommend making a stop here.

Not from the Ashland area I had asked at the hotel for recommendation. After driving for 6 hours my son and I were hungry and thirsty. After waiting about 5-10 minutes our server finally came for drink order, restaurant was busy I get that. Both my son and I asked for regular cokes, what we got was syrup with no carbonation. Our appetizer had arrived which was spicy and neither of is had anything we could drink. Finally got attention of a server walking past, she apologized and returned with better drinks. Our food arrived...I had ordered the $22 ribeye with carmelized onions and mushrooms, with garlic mashed potatoes as a side. It was a pile of potatoes with the the steak on top...the onions and mushrooms were a deep dark brown pool of grease swimming over the top of it all...really couldn't even make out the steak it was so dark. By this point we were in need of another round of drinks...we were back to syrup over ice. I asked for water at this point and the main hostess came over and told them to get us cans of soda. We had carbonation finally but there was no flavor at all to whatever can of cola they brought us. Long story short after only 5 bites I ended up getting up 3 times during the night popping rolaids due to the horrible heartburn I had and my son spent the next hours throwing up.

Deep Water Grille and South Shore Brewery - one of our favorite stops when touring the South Shore - however, today they almost lost us - we were 2 tablespoons of a sample taste of mint stout from walking out. I'm still a fan but it may be awhile before I take time to drive there again - it's a 300 mile drive to visit and quite frankly my expectations for service are higher than they delivered. Not being too critical of Connie's situation - she was the bartender, server, and bus person - and I counted 26 patrons dispersed between the bar and 6 tables - too many hungry and thirsty people for one person to adequately tend to, this doesn't excuse her curt behavior when we first arrived but none-the-less, I feel we should be greeted cheerfully and respectfully like any paying customer. I believe my concern may be more with management on this day than our server, given the under staffed bar. We had the nut brown ale and the bourbon barrel mint stout - delicious as always, ahhh! this is why we like South Shore Brewery. She had the portobello mushroom flat bread and I had the Reuben - both sandwiches were excellent - I think the reuben with the stout sauerkraut and apostle island dressing ranks in my all time, top 3 reuben sandwiches - well done, our trust was beginning to be restored. I hope that this was a single occasion of management miscalculating staffing needs and not a reccuring theme. Great beer, Great food, and Great service - that's what I'm looking for when I spend $45 for lunch...maybe South Shore Brewery and Deep Water Grille will deliver next time. Let me know how your visit goes the next time you stop, your thoughts and experiences will determine when I visit again.
(4)Brian S.
Food is solid and the beer is fantastic. The view of Lake Superior from the second story outside deck is great.
(5)Steven K.
Ate there while in vacation to the north woods. Was pleased with the beer selection and wanted to try the coffee mint stout but didn't have anyone else to drink it with so I passed. The food was ok but not great. I had the Cajun broiled whitefish. It was fresh that much was for sure but other than that it was bland and a little over cooked. I expected a spicy bite or some salt or something when eating the fish but got nothing. The whitefish is bland at baseline so I didn't expect much from the fish itself but was saddened when the dish sorta fell flat. That being said I got a side of the sweet potato fries. They were wonderful! Salty crispy but fluffy and sweet. They were the crown jewel of the meal and if I got back up there would order them again and again! No dessert this time though I know my fiancée would love the chocolate lava cake.
(3)Kathy W.
Really great atmosphere and great service. We had 3 orders of whitefish boiled and all of them had alot of bones in it. I had the reuben and i thought that it had way too much bread and the corned beef was really dry. But I also had I side of sweet potato fries and they were Amazing! I also had the bavarian wheat beer and that was very delicious. I would definitely go back.
(4)Cynthia K.
Mmmm, very good! My husband liked their beer. We thought the menu inventive for "up north". We started with the chorizo stuffed mushrooms with a saffron cream sauce - excellent. I had the tomato-spinach stuffed chicken breast on polenta cakes. Nice presentation, plenty to eat. I really liked the flavor of the polenta cakes - not boring at all like most places that serve polenta. Friendly service and I liked the pub atmosphere of the old building this is housed in.
(4)Kristin D.
This place does service and food really well. We stopped by for lunch on our "Lake superior southern shore trip." Lovely draft beer -Nut brown and APA. I had the broiled whitefish sandwich, well seasoned, nice soft bread, and delicious homemade tartar sauce. It was Excellent. My husband had the special of the day- Reuben. It was excellent as well. My son had the meat, cheese and fruit platter which was a refreshing change from most kids menus, and it was a huge spread which he had for lunch the next day too. I wish we had a place like this in La Crosse. Great beer, friendly service, excellent food. What more can you ask for.
(4)Chris G.
Excellent! We had the cajun seasoned whitefish, friends had beer battered whitefish, both meals were excellent. They have a broad variety of on-site brewed beers. Cost was reasonable, kid friendly, good place to eat in Ashland--and there are not a lot of places in town.
(4)Michael O.
Great place in Ashland for dinner and beer. I had the broiled whitefish with wild rice and vegetables. My wife had the chicken margherita and a side of fruit. All of it was delicious. Very good service as well. We will be back.
(5)Jim K.
You'll have a hard time finding a better brew pub in Wisconsin! Great beer (I know), great food and service. It's hard to believe such a great place exists in a sparsely populated area, but it does and it is worth the 600 mile trip I make every year. Tell Bo I sent you.
(4)Shawnee P.
Totally pleasing. Great beer, and our dinners were fantastic -- the cajun whitefish and a swordfish special, both perfectly cooked. We were there on a busy Friday night, but never felt rushed at all by our server; we had a very leisurely meal and made an evening out of it. The next day we returned for nachos and more beer, and decided that if we lived in the area we would be regulars for sure!
(5)Theresa A.
Had Dinner with a friend who has been here before. Beer was great. Had the whitefish sandwich in the Ally part. I thought it was perfect. Will be going back.
(4)Rhonda G.
Of all the places on my trip, I wish we could have one in the TC. I just love the eclectic menu. I had the slow roasted beef pita. It was the best beef sandwich I ever had. It just didn't belong in a toasted pita. Now I know next time I can request a bun. Basil had the special, tri-colored tortellini in a cream sauce. It looked like it should be in a magazine, and was delicious. I tried the beer cheese soup in the special ale. Different. A very beautifully decorated pub, especially the wood. An interesting narrow upper level. It fills up quickly here.
(5)Ralph M.
This can get a little confusing, because now TWO restaurants operate here as part of the South Shore Brewery: Deep Water Grille and The Alley. They're all attached, they all serve South Shore Brewery's beer, but they have separate menus. Deep Water Grille seems to be a little more upscale, while The Alley is more bar food (pizza, burgers, and some entrees). I dined at "The Alley" with a bunch of beer sampling friends. Everyone clear? The Beer: Nothing wrong here as far as brewpubs go. Didn't dislike anything, nor was I particularly impressed. Better than mediocre, though not anything I would go out of the way for. The Food: Also better than mediocre, or at least more options than you might expect from "bar food". I had the Whitefish Club sandwich. Again, not a homerun, but a solid enough double. So far, we're cruising for a boring 3 star review. Why even write it up, right? The Service: Here's where things went wrong, and went wrong very early. We arrive; we are given food menus. This is a brew pub. Where's the beer list? "Oh, I can just tell you the beers. They're . . ." and she proceeds to quickly rattle off a list of names. Seriously? These aren't brand name beers, and the names she gave us didn't even include category names like "ale" or "porter" or what not. Basically: here's a list of random words, choose one. Under questioning, she can sometimes tell us more about them, sometimes she cannot. Frustrated, we insist there has to be some sort of beer menu. She returns with one. Yes, one. For a table of nine. This book is also of every beer the ever brew, with no designation for the beers they have right now. So all we can do is try to match up the names she gave us, with items in this book. One at a time. We all start with the randomly pick a name approach, and take turns perusing the book while he drink our random beer. Not ideal. Did she bother to mention they had a sampler? No, of course not! That might have actually solved our problems way too easily. The waitress confessed to being new (or was she just saying their dinner menu was new, I'm not sure now), but I really put the blame on the management here. The fact that she is not instructed to hand out beer menus (nor do they apparently have enough to do so) is a BIG problem. The fact that she seems little capable of explaining much anything about the beers, and seemed to think rapidly firing off the names of the beers was a good system, is also a BIG problem. I can only assume this is what they've trained her to do. Perhaps if you're sitting at the bar (where the beer menu she provided came from), and can read their chalk board of beers on tap things go a little more smoothly. Sitting at a table, I could see little indication this place took themselves seriously as a brewpub.
(2)Matt D.
Slow service, but he had an amusing British accent. Pretty sure it was fake. Worst Cole slaw ever. I think it was just cabbage and Hellmans. Yuck. Small fish portion. Salad lacked pizazz. Curry soup had smooth curry flavor, but little else. I didn't try the beer, which I suppose what the place is known for. Overall, I was fairly disappointed. This place is really not worth your money.
(2)William T.
I have eaten at the Deep Water Grille a handful of times over the last couple of years, and quite enjoy it. I strongly recommend their jambalaya, a north woods take on jambalaya using wild rice which has a bit of fire. The turkey and wild rice soup is also excellent. I know I have tried other entrees in the past (as well as people I have been with have had a variety of things) and all seemed fairly good, but the jambalaya is a stand out for me. The beer offerings run the gamut, and they have about a half dozen on tap at a time. At least currently, this includes a barley wine. The staff has treated us well each time we have gone, but on our most recent visit they treated our group (which might have been a tad annoying) great. I couldn't speak more highly of the bartender, hostess, and waitress that served our group.
(4)Rich F.
This is a top notch, first class restaurant all the way. This was my second visit to the Deep Water Grille and both were excellent. This is an upscale casual eatery that specializes in regional cuisine as well as a first class offering with beers brewed on site. My meal this evening started with a Clam Chowder with a twist - instead of potatoes, the chowder contained wild rice. It was an interesting twist that added a savoryness that almost overtook the clams, but yet still succeeded. The main course was the Seared Ruby Red Yellowfin Tuna Steak served on top of a squash risotto with grilled asparagus and a saffron cream sauce. The presentation was just fantastic. It was so artful that I was reluctant to break it up. I do not like underdone tuna, and my piece was cooked precisely to my order. The tuna was just lightly seasoned, which allowed you to control the flavor by how you combined it with the sauce and the risotto. The way in which these flavors interacted was something you rarely experience in a meal. I do not eat dessert when on the road, but if they get their pies and cakes from the renowned Ashland Bakery down the street, it's bound to be special.
(5)Andrew M.
We stop in for lunch en route to Madeline Island and then back from the Island days later for lunch again. No one has ever been disapointed. The service is good and the food is good - great. Presentation is very good and the home brew is one of my favorite - Herbal Cream Ale is a recomendation for certain. That being said, pay close attention because NO ONE HAS BETTER WINGS THEN THIS PLACE! Their Garlic Whiskey wings is a staple and (wink/nod) after 4 years of trying to figure the receipe out the chef gave it too me. Since then I have been cooking them the same way for neighbors and family and no one denies - it's the best. So good that I generally get comments of arrousment by how good these are. Hands down - best wings I've ever had!
(4)Danna M.
late stop for dinner on a road trip and we weren't disappointed. The shrimp with curried rice appetizer worked well as a light entree. The smoked trout Brie crostini were very tasty. The Mint Stout was was very worth trying.

Never fails. We find ourselves inexorably drawn back to this establishment. Ashland, Wisc. is a lovely-waiting-to-happen kind of place, and this restaurant really gives it a boost. The beer is pretty darned good as well! For our third lunch at the Deep Water we had an angus burger and a grilled portobello mushroom wrap with a side of wild rice and mushroom soup. Firstly, the soup was so good we both would have been happy with it alone. I always hesitate to spend $9 for a hamburger (when did hamburgers start costing what a good steak used to cost? Wake up people, you don't have to pay that much!) But let me tell you I had no regrets. Charbroiled to perfection, with a wonderful grilled flavor, and a huge side of sweet potato fries, it was wonderful to eat it and watch the juice run down my arm! The wrap was quite nice as well. Perfect service, a very nice ambience, and the attached bar is actually elegant. We really love this place.
(4)Michael C.
My wife and I ate here on July 27, 2009 while we were in the area visiting some relatives. If you're looking for a place with an outdoor view - this isn't the place - it's a few blocks off the main drag that goes along the Lake Superior coastline in what appears to be a section of Ashland that's seen better days. We were here for dinner - not sandwiches - and I wasn't real impressed with the selection of entrees. I'm not a big fan of thin fish but I ordered the Lake Superior Whitefish on the recommendation of our waitress. Considering we were a few blocks from Lake Superior, I had much higher expectations for both the taste and portion size. Quite frankly, I'd have preferred a burger to the fish - it tasted fishy and I just couldn't get the gluey bottom skin taste off the fish. My wife was disappointed with her entree as well. A couple positive comments - the interior space is very attractive - typical yuppie industrial warehouse style and - our waitress was efficient and friendly. It's tough to review a place based on one experience so take that into consideration. I got the impression that this spot is trying too hard to be more sophisticated than it is. Beer, burgers, and sandwiches might fit this place - and the blue-collar town more comfortably (and successfully). Should my wife and I return in the future - we'll be making our selections from that section of the menu.

...Catch-up review from a September dinner. Good fish, good soup, good beer, good Grasshoppers!
(4)Rick S.
you have to have the cheese soup was out standing . brew was great also. wife and I had white fish sandwiches also that were the best we have had in a two state area.
(5)Annie N.
Four stars for son's soup/sandwich combo (am thinking the wonderful swirl rye must have come from Ashland Baking up the street) (beer cheese soup was his selection); two for my Friday fish fry, operant word truly being FRY. They fried the SH&T out of my fish. It was hard and dry and I would have sent it back had I been a regular. Didn't want to be viewed as a whiny tourist, though, so I choked down what I could manage, along with the equally dry potato mash that was plopped onto my plate (and held its shape a bit too nicely) with an ice cream-type scoop. Locals had recommended. I wouldn't go back.

I've been here a few times in my life, and each time, I can't really complain about anything. The food is good.. I wouldn't say great... but definitely good! I like their waffle fries, and their Caesar salad is pretty tasty as well.. a bit nontraditional, but tasty. They have specials a lot as well, usually nightly. I find them to be a bit spendy, but at the same time, I never really order that much food in once sitting. You do get a lot of food for what you pay. The price, overall, is decent. Like I said, it is a bit high, but for the most part, reasonable. The service is good, but the restaurant can get pretty busy on the weekend nights! If you want a seat, you may have to call ahead, or go get a tasty South Shore brew from the bar while you wait... another great idea!

Love the Deepwater Grille for dinner after we have been paddling all day on "Gitche Gumee". Great food, great service! You can never go wrong here.

This restaurant is attached to the South Shore Brewery, which brews some pretty good beer. The restaurant itself is fine, another burger and fries place, with some entrees that seemed a little pricey. The waitress was well versed in vegetarian and warned me against the beer cheese soup (chicken stock). Much appreciated. I love love love brewpubs that do growlers. Brought hope a big bottle of mai bock, and on a Sunday! Ah, Wisconsin.
