Mohens family restaurant is the place for breakfast in Appleton wi. I got there at 7:15 and people never stopped coming in while i was there. The place is a chain I think because i think I have seen them in other cities but I have started checking out chains because I have had some good luck and I have changed my opinion on not going to chains. The place was nice looking and not dive looking with different colors on everything like a blind decorator put it together. My service was great and my server was sincerely a very nice woman and was not there just for a pay check. She was very friendly and made you feel like we knew each other for years. The menu was the standard breakfast items with one exception, the ultimate breakfast casserole and that's what I'm having. The ultimate breakfast casserole is basically frittata. It's eggs, hash browns, green pepper, ham, bacon and sausage covered with country gravy and cheese. See my pictures. It came with sourdough toast. My first impression was that it was really tasty and I liked the idea. This was a first for me and I have never seen it anywhere else so I'm glad I ordered it. Overall for a chain the breakfast was very good and a unique item doesn't hurt at all. I enjoyed my breakfast and would recommend the place.

I really needed to reevaluate my first review. Why the 4 Star Rating? I have defiantly given out a 5 to a lesser place. Plus, why do I keep coming back so frequently if I don't love this place? Have I ever had a bad meal? No! Have I ever had bad service? No! 5 Star it is!

Have only been here for breakfast but it is good. Come early on the weekends, especially Sunday, as there is a wait when the Church traffic arrives. The eggs are deliciously prepared no matter how you get them and the american fries are great. Classic Diner fair. The thing that really makes this place stand out is the Pancakes. While they aren't fancy like some other restaurants they are the "Best Classic Buttermilk Pancakes" you will have. My wife and I share a side of pancakes when we come here since they are offered as an option with almost every breakfast. Trust me, you won't be dissapointed.

Great place for Breakfast! Finally cooks who understand what extra extra crispy hash browns are!

Nothing fancy, basic breakfast restaurant. Typically can expect a 15 minute wait on the weekends. Servers are friendly. Breakfasts are good.

Cheers to the entire bunch over there at Mohnens. My Mother , at the end stage of her life, was in need of social contacts. Her many sisters, and she, would go on a weekly basis to Mohnen's. She really liked your Cappuccino's, by the way. She'd cheat on her diet and have two of them. The service you extended to my family, on behalf of my Mother, Joan, has not been forgotten. And when I find my coupons for you, they just came in the mail yesterday, I will be there myself. Her table was always ready for her back in the day when 'The Girls' were livin' it up in Darby. Thanks!

My family visited here this past Sunday around 10:30 am due to it's close proximity to our home. Our wait was about 15min to be seated which is expected on a Sunday morning in a smaller town such as Darboy. Once we were seated, we were waited on promptly. One of the reasons for the 2-stars is the time we spent waiting for our food. There was only 3 of us and the place wasn't completely packed by any means, but it took 35-40mins to get our food. A busy place during lunch/dinner, i could understand. But breakfast shouldn't take that long. A big part for the 2-star rating is what we witnessed during our wait. Every cook that we could see working near the kitchen window was not wearing any gloves. According to the WI DATCP anyone in contact with ready to eat foods should be wearing disposable gloves. Now i realize this probably goes unnoticed at most restaurants, but given all the health items in today's world i think it needs to be enforced. These cooks were adjusting their ball caps, t-shirts, pulling up their pants, etc. They were putting the garnishes on the plates, toast, etc....pretty gross when you think about it. Finally, the food was decent. Best breakfast around as they claim....probably not. Oh yeah, thought it was kinda weird that they charged $1.99 for a 16+oz glass of OJ and $2.09 for a bottomless cup of coffee. Great if your an OJ drinker!

My family has been a patron of this restaurant since I was a little girl. They offer fantastic food and very friendly service. They have a lot of winners on their menu, but if you really can't decide I have to say that their potato pancakes are the best I have ever had! Order them with applesauce. Yum! There is typically a wait on Sunday mornings, so be prepared for that. They usually have such a good system down though, that you shouldn't be waiting very long.

Had a hankering for some hash browns, so we stopped by. The French toast was perfect. Also would suggest that the buffalo chicken omelette shouldn't just be a special, would visit weekly if it was on the regular menu. It was pleasing to see that there weren't any flies present in the restaurant and the décor wasn't old. Beautiful paintings were on display.

Perhaps it's because it's New Years Day they were off the mark but Hubs and I did not enjoy the food at all. Waited appx 25 minutes for a table. Our waitress looked at me as if I were an alien from Uranus when I asked how many scrambled eggs were in a particular dish. I've never been here lady so I did not know that this dish is comprised of eggs, sausage, ham, bacon and hash browns and baked in a casserole. It was topped with sausage gravy and cheese and was very bland. I also ordered potato pancakes which looked good but they put butter on them?? Once I removed the butter I waited to get her attention for some sour cream which is what aliens from Uranus put on their potato pancakes, They really had little flavor even with the addition of salt. Hubs had the Patty melt which he said was just ok. Not the best we've had in Appleton!

Ordered hot turkey sandwich which came with mashed potatoes and green beans. Cold canned green beans, "gravy" was tasteless as was the turkey and potatoes. Didn't see the waitress until it was time to bring me the bill.

Great breakfast and surprisingly good lunch and dinner. Home cook'n how home cook'n use to be. Large servings so go with an appetite.

My wife and I decided to pop into this place last week for lunch. Despite the "run down" look of this place the service and the food was amazing. My wife ordered the Taco Salad and I had the Frisco Melt, after starting off with the Crispy Cheese Fries. First of all, let me say that the Cheese Fries are definitely worth the impending coronary infarction. By far the best Fries Ive had in a stint. The entree's were fresh and well seasoned and were only topped by the friendly waitress that brought them to our table. If you can get past the "divy" feel of this place and the limited menu Im sure you will enjoy your time eating here.

As always the food was great, servers were timely and friendly. A great value for breakfast or dinner. Broiled haddock is really good.

Excellent food! Breakfast casserole is wonderful and pancakes are homemade large and yummy!!! 3rd time here and will come back!!!

This is the best breakfast joint in the Appleton area. I've never had anything bad there. The worst thing about the place is the line. It's not a secret that they have great food and even if you get there earlier, you're probably going to have to wait. It's worth it though, they have really good breakfast. I've never really gone there for anything else.

Enjoy the breakfasts...especially the potato pancakes and their omelets. Their Friday fish is also very tasty.

I was more than a little skeptical when I first walked in to this drab-looking restaurant. Tried to order a latte at their "espresso bar" and they didn't even have soy milk, so that was nixed. However... our waitress was fantastic, and the food was even better. My fiancee and I both got breakfast dishes and I was very impressed! Better than any other Sunday morning breakfast I've gotten in recent memory. We will definetely be going back. Right after I go to a coffee shop for my latte.

Great service, food and overall restaurant experience. I would suggest the eggs welby if you are in the mood for breakfast and the chicken mushroom swiss if you are hungry for a sandwich.

Best breakfast in the Valley!! My boyfriend and I usually go here once a month and always leave satisfied. Service is always quick and friendly. Food has always been hot and delicious. Portions are generous. Priced just right. Even on Saturday and Sunday mornings when they are busy and people are PACKED OUT THE DOOR, you still get seated pretty quickly. I will always have a special love for "That breakfast place in Darboy".
(5)Nicole R.
Awful! We waited over a half hour for our food and it wasn't even busy! The pancakes were cold. The waitress was unfriendly. She screwed up the order. When we tried to flag her down she ignored us. (I know she heard us) we ended up walking out. Big disaster! Never will I step foot in that place as long as I live. Plus the restaurant is old looking and there were flies everywhere. Yuck

Mohnen's has great breakfast. The waitresses are friendly. It's just a little old looking inside though.

Awesome breakfast. I've been going since I was very young and have yet to order any breakfast that wasn't delicious. Never tried lunch or dinner, though. Breakfast is quite expensive...most meals are right around 8 to 10 dollars. Add coffee for two and thats a pretty pricy breakfast.

I have been all over and me and my wife love to go out for breakfast. Mohnen's is simply the best. Go there and try anything on the menu and I think you will agree with me.

This place has the best breakfast. The potato pancakes are the best I've ever had. The Eggs Welby and the Breakfast Cassarole are sooooo good! This place is a must!! Lunch and Dinner is also really good at this place!
