I like Mark's, they have foods you don't find all over the place. Check it out!

Love this place. Every time we're there were never disappointed. Fun bartender, great waitresses and awesome food, go!

Absolutely a fantastic meal! Rhoda and Sarah treated us so good! I had the German sampler and was extremely impressed with everything. I will be coming back on my next trip to Appleton. I highly recommend Mark's if you like German food!

I had a pork schnitzel with bacon gravy - very good. Portions are too large - you will have leftovers. Which is fine, as long as it heats up well. I also had a wedge salad, and that was nearly a meal in of itself. Good service.

Great food! Great drinks awesome Friday all you can eat fish fry!!!

Wife and I had early dinner here on Saturday night, good selection of German and American dishes, as well as Seafood selections. Wife had the schnitzel which was fantastic, with fried egg, capers and sauce. I had the Prime Rib which just melted in your mouth. Had house salad with hot bacon mustard dressing, really tasty. Also enjoyed the house Porter. Service was good, water glasses constantly filled up. We will be back!

The experience at Mark's East side was pretty good with the service and food being pretty good. Enter We actually arrived just as the place opened at 4:30 so we were seated immediately. The waitress did explain the menu very well when we said it was our first visit and recommended the steak as well as the fish. I didn't take advantage of the check in offer as I am not really a fan of sauerkraut regardless of who makes it. The waitress returned quickly and took our order Dinner We ordered the Porterhouse steak with twice baked potato, Haddock, and Shepherd's Pie on the mainstream menu. The porterhouse was very good and while tasty, it was the only reason for the star missing as the medium steak was a bit medium rare. I recommend ordering one temperature higher than what you want. Not really a deal breaker as I can go a temp above or below and be okay with it. The twice baked potato was very good as well. The haddock was tasty and Shepherd's pie as well. We finished with Creme Brûlée which was very tasty and creamy. I recommend stopping in to see this and the other offerings they have!

Italian chicken soup was loaded with fresh veggies and sausage, well seasoned it could have been my main course. The sauerbraten is incredible! Better than I've had in years, including in Germany. It's truly authentic. Rest of our party had different schnitzels. They were great, crisp outside, tender and moist inside and small portions were still large. The spaetzel is homemade, so perfectly done. The decor is really nice since it's been fully remodeled, the bathrooms are lovely and large. Our server was excellent with proper attention without unnecessary intrusion. I hate when they interrupt the table conversation. She was excellent!!! I wish I lived closer, our German spot in San Diego is no where near this quality. We hope to return!

I tried several things on the menu and overall very happy with my choices. For appetizer I had the sausage smaller platter, sauerkraut balls (free sample from yelp checking in) and French onion soup. The sausage platter came with crispy thin baguette, caramelized onion and mustard dipping sauce. The crispy baguette added great texture while onions offers sweetness balanced with mild mustard spice and tartness. Sauerkraut balls were fried and served with a cream dipping sauce. The kraut balls were golden, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Very good. I'm a huge fan of french onion soup. This place had one of the best French onion soups I've had. The broth was rich and well balanced acidity, cheese melted perfectly on top. Immensely satisfying. For entree I had jaegersnitzel from the old-country menu selection. The dish perfectly depicted the rustic characteristics of country. The pork was thinly breaded and fried, the meat was still moist and not dry; the mushroom gravy had rich red wine tones infused with thyme. Potatoes dumplings were very soft and moist on the inside. Sauerkraut with hints of caraway and the apples balanced out the dish, sweet, savory and tart. The only area of opportunity I see would be the decor of the restaurant - could use an update. Otherwise great good with good service. I would return again.

We like to go to Mark's East Side because they have a good selection on their menu. My husband will always order the German food and I prefer their salads and seafood. Our favorite appetizers are the Bavarian Scotch egg which is a hard boiled egg, wrapped in sausage, battered and deep fried. Very good! Their sausage sampler is also very tasty. On our latest visit we had Mark come to the table and tell us about his special beer he is brewing. It is a dark porter with a strong start and a sweet end taste. I usually like a lighter beer but I thought it was very good. Worth trying. But they also have Stella on tap which is one of my favorites. I ordered the Strawberry Fields Forever Salad which comes with a grilled chicken breast on top. Of course it is full of strawberries, feta cheese, candies nuts and red onion. Plenty for a complete meal. My husband ordered the Schnitzel A la Holstein which was a breaded veal cutlet topped with fried eggs, capers, and hollandaise sauce. It was served with potato dumplings. He said the veal was very tender and the dumplings were perfect. Mark also does a terrific job with fresh seafood. He has daily specials with a variety of fish. The wait staff is attentive and the prices are fair. It does get very busy on Friday evenings so we do try to visit during the week. We like to eat in the bar area rather than the dining room. We are just more comfortable there.

What an exceptional dining experience! Great ambiance, very reasonable prices, and the Jagerschnitsel, spaetzle, and red cabbage are the best I've had outside Germany! Service was outstanding! You have to try the owner's spectacular home brew called Mark's East Side! One of the best porters I've ever tasted --- and I am a bonafide beer snob! Cheers and don't miss this unique dining experience!

Great place, food, and service.

We were on our way home to Chicago from Green Bay and found Mark's East Side on yelp. I was craving a brat and sauerkraut being in WI and this place blew my cravings away! Sauerkraut balls are a MUST and free thanks to the Yelp ad! French onion soup is the best we've ever had. I had the sausage platter and my husband had the sauerbraten - both out of this world! We ate at the bar - great atmosphere - lots of fun and the bartender Karen was amazing! It was 4 miles off the highway but definitely worth the trip!!

Had a petite prime rib, was fantastic and more than enough! Also had the French onion soup which was just divine! The service rocked as well :). Have been here before and will definitely come again!

Stopped here a second time while in Appleton because it was so good the first time. They are consistent! This time i had the chicken a la Oscar with fresh asparagus. it was perfect. Had the garlic potatoes again and loved 'em. Best of all was the hot bacon dressing on my salad. (They sell it at checkout.) I thought it was odd to have on lettuce salad but it was as good as it is on spinach salad. I start drooling as i type this. Service is classy. Waitress knows her stuff.

It was ok. Just ok. The moment you walk in you get bombarded by an overpowering dusty smell to the place. The decor is straight out of the 1950's which isnt necessarily a bad thing except that it seems that was the last time they dusted or cleaned or did anything to the place. Had a combo platter with Weiner Schnitzel, German Pork Chop and Sausage. The weiner Snitzel was tender and had good flavor. The Schnitzel and the spaetzel were the saving grace to this place. The pork chop was non descript and the applesauce that was served with it, you can just tell it was out of a can. The sausage was very salty as was the saurkraut that was served with it. My friend, who had a sausage combo for her entree, thought the saurkraut was good. Service was barely there. The place is billed as a supper club, so i expected for appetizer, entree, desert to come out at a nice easy pace but everything basically came out all at once. Had a better supper club experience at the Hob Nob in Kenosha. Had better German food at the Old Bavarian in Appleton.

Not as good as I was expecting - & we had heard such great things about this local favorite. My husband & I both ordered steaks, & both of us were pretty disappointed - definitely had better, they just were nothing special. However - I would highly recommend the Sauerkraut Balls - those were definitely worth the trip, & made our 1hr wait for a table at the bar a little more enjoyable.

Went to Mark's East Side for the first time after reading several articles about their all-you-can-eat Friday fish fry, so I was excited to check it out. I made the mistake of not making a reservation, however, and had to wait almost an hour and a half to get seated. I had a couple beers at the bar though and everything was fine. When we did sit down, my girlfriend and I were able to put in our orders right away. It didn't take long to bring out the fish and fries, and it didn't take long for us to dig in. I was ready for some of the best fish I've had, but it was really just average overall. It wasn't bad, don't get me wrong, but it was hard to believe it was Appleton's best. Maybe it was an off night, because it was beyond busy, but it's hard to say. The rest of the menu seemed pretty delicious, the craft beers I had were great, and ambiance was nice, so 4 stars overall, but 3 star fish.

Was in town for the NFL Champoinship game and was recommended here by the manager of the #1 rated restaurant on Google, which was closed for a private party. This worked out in our favor. Wow. The decor was amazing - we were expecting an old run down affair, but got a clean, classy and well-cared for establishment. The bathroom could be in an upscale mansion. The food was fantastic - appetizers of scottish egg, a mixed plate of delicious brats and perfectly caramelized onions, and REAL drinks. Moved on to entrees, which were equally awesome. Schnitzel away! And all delivered with really warm friendly service, especally considering we were NY Giants fans! We were sad we had to catch a plane as we would have enjoyed spending the rest of the evening. If this restaurant was near us back in NY, I would be a regular.

Sorry but still not happy with this place. Don't know why I keep going back. Maybe I will appreciate it more when I am 80 years old and my taste buds have gone. LOL. I am beginning to wonder about my friends who say they love this place. Maybe they are the ones who have risen my expectations, only to have them shot down again. The ladies at the bar are great. On top of things and personable. My drink was not so nice. It was so watered down. Too much ice. Didn't have the heart to ask them to remake it. Sauerkraut balls, yum of course. Had the pretzel crusted chicken. Just ok. Chicken was tender (+), green beans were very tasteless (-), and the wild rice was over cooked and mushy (-). Decided to skip dessert in fear that wouldn't be great either.

Great atmosphere and service. The German food and beer is authentic . I had the Wienerschnitzel. It was tender and crispy
(5)Susan O.
Truly the best supper club in the Valley. Service is stellar..fast and personal. You will often see Mark himself. Every item is consistently wonderful. I love the fish fry and the German food. Also able to get broiled fish items, for healthy option. Soups at lunch are selfish.
(5)Julia M.
You can't be the Friday night Fish Fry at Mark's! My family has been going for years-always a great meal. Consistent.

overall experience was truly terrible. There were a million things to choose from, and nothing that sounded the least bit appetizing. I dont know how long this restaurant has been in business, but it appears that the menu hasnt changed since the seventies. Outdated and disgusting recipes littered the menu. The decor was Irish but for some reason there was German food? My sister had the weiner schnitzel and it was O.K. minus the gallon of gravy covering it. I had the broiled haddock and it appeared to be cooked in either an entire stick of butter or some nasty margarine. Truly repulsive. You could not taste the fish at all through the butter and their thick mayonnaise-y tartar sauce hardly helped it at all. I chose the rice as a side and THAT was a mistake--it was over-cooked and tasted slightly earthy-as if it had been days old or possibly even moldy. i could not make out what they tried to season it with. the only good part about the meal was the whole grain bread served with dinner and the partly-edible iceberg (trash) lettuce salad. i would never ever ever go to this disgusting trash heap ever again. i would have returned my food and not eaten if i hadnt been with someone who had invited me ( i didnt want to offend their taste in restaurant choices which is usually pretty good). Truly terrible. there were so many moments where i wanted to get up and leave. I truly do not believe that anybody working at that restaurant has tasted that food since it is so embarassingly awful. the only way i can fathom that there are so many good reviews is that the people making them were drunk off their a$$ while eating. i wish i could give it zero stars but yelp makes you give at least 1

Really disappointing experience. They seated our table of 7 then must've not assigned a server. After waiting 15 min went and asked for a server. She kept forgetting drinks and sides. Soup, salad, and (especially) bread was fine. They were out of the special at 6:00 pm. Took forever to get our food, and the last two plates came nearly 10 minutes after the first five. All food had obviously sat for a while. Spaetzel was cold, dry and hard, not to mention tasteless. The manager came to apologize for the delay, but just said "sorry" and then weirdly hovered over my shoulder. Server never asked if everything was ok. When paying the bill I gave an honest answer (poor) when asked how dinner was. No offer to make things right. Probably a bad night, but server and manager didn't seem to care, food was really bad, and service was odd. Won't go back, and I can't recommend it.

Visiting Wisconsin I wanted to go to a fish fry, and I got it... including a most delicious appetizers, like a Scottish Egg and deep fried Sauerkraut-balls... the fish was plenty (all you can eat) and good. Great atmosphere and service make this place memorable and I'd go back next time I'm in Appleton.
(5)Valerie Y.
Fabulous food, best steaks I have ever eaten, and always cooked to perfection! Great wine list, love the clam chowder! My family keeps coming back because we have always enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and always have a wonderful experience from top to bottom! Excellent job Mark! Keep it up!

Great steak meal. Friendly service. Fair pricing. Only critique, upgrade silverware and water glasses, there dated. Carry more STONE ARCH! Great dining experience!

Went here for Friday fish due to Camelot being busy. Knew right away we were under dressed being in t-shirts and hoodies. The waitress was polite, but seemed to be short with us. We got the all you can eat haddock. After the food was brought out she asked if she should put in another batch right away, and due to it becoming more busy I asked if she would. After bringing out the check she stated that they normally don't box up left overs with all you can eat , and that it was a lot to waste(the portion of fish we had not finished). Asked us if we were staying in a hotel, and again stated it was a lot of food to waste, and then double checked that we could not eat anymore. With a sour look on her face she cleared the rest of the table and only returned to get the check. The food was great, not greasy by any means and reasonably priced. If we go back I'll have to make sure we're dressed more properly.

The french onion soup was amazing, but the boneless chicken breast was flavorless and not as described on the menu.
(2)Brian M.
Have been there a few times. Each time has been as good as the last. Their Chicken and Sausage Vodka Pasta dish is amazing with a wonderful sauce. I had steak and Scallops last time. The sirloin was cooked perfectly. Friendly service and good drinks. Will for sure sure go back

I cant believe Mark's only has 7 reviews! Great food, great drinks, awesome service! What more can I say? You cant go wrong here. My girlfriend had never had (or heard of) an old fashioned so I decided that best place to experience one would be a quintessential Wisconsin Supper Club. Mark's was perfect! The drinks were spot on and that bartender was friendly. Lyndsey was our waitress and she could not have been more attentive, friendly, and even funny. I could go on and on. Go here! Take your kids and their grandma and grandpa. Everyone will love it!
(5)J P.
Great food. Awesome bar. Servers are attentive to your every detail. The only draw back is that the place is packed every time we eat there. One hour wait -- but well worth it. The bathrooms are better than my first two houses!
(5)Ann P.
Mark's East Side is the perfect place to celebrate that special occasion or to get together for lunch with friends and family, where you can linger over a cup of coffee and visit. Menu choices are numerous, the food is outstanding and the service is impeccable. No wonder Mark's has received so many awards!
(5)Stephen F.
Very solid family run place. They have German specialties but they are by no means limited to that. Comfortable with place with a nice bar and a good selection of beers on tap. Very good service.
(4)Mitch D.
We ate there on a Tuesday night. Was seated immediately and the service was excellent. Started with the German sausage appetizer with hot mustard, caramelized onions and grilled bread. Delicious. Second course was French onion soup. A bit salty but otherwise good. Main course I had roasted duck and she had the German sampler. HUGE portions, and very good. We didn't even have room for desert - a first for us! Highly recommended.
