I had a friend visiting and we were debating whether or not to go out for dinner. I was on Facebook updating pictures and we saw this scrumptious looking dish so we decided to just drop by Cena to try it out. The dish was called cheese pockets and it's phyllo dough enveloping several types of melted cheese and sliced grapes on the outside. It was so good! We ordered rainbow trout for our main dish and I was very happy with it. I mean, this is how good it was. It had brussel sprouts. I hate brussel sprouts. BUT, I ate the brussel sprouts. Service was excellent. Attentive staff, friendly and efficient. They also made my son grilled cheese sandwich because he couldn't make up his mind what to eat. They offered to make it for him even if it wasn't on the menu. I have since visited the Cena a few more times and I always get the cheese pockets as well as whatever they have on the list of specials. Probably one of my favorite restaurants in the area and will definitely eat there more.

Awesome food. I had the scallops they were amazing. The squash polenta was paired perfectly with the scallops and brussel sprouts. My husband had the coffee crusted pork tenderloin it was prepared perfectly! Strongly recommend!

One of my favorite restaurants in the whole fox cities area. I always get amazing food. Great looking restaurant, great bar, great great food.

We stumbled across this place earlier this summer as we walked around Appleton. We'd eaten dinner elsewhere and were quite unsatisfied with the experience and evening up to that point. The fine folks at Cena fixed it all for us. The owner went out of his way to make our desert and drinks a wonderful experience (even before he heard it was our anniversary). This place was good enough that we'd go out of our way to come back here. It's a shame we live 200 miles away... If you stop in, try the tiramisu - I don't usually like the stuff and was humoring my wife... and it was mind-blowingly good. It sets a new standard and changed my mind about tiramisu.

Incredible experience!! Went here with my best friend after reading about it on Yelp, and we could not have been more pleased. The atmosphere is very casual, and honestly, it felt cozy. The Mediterranean Nachos were amazing, and will easily be the main reason for repeat visits. I ordered the Scallops, and they were seared to perfection, and presented beautifully. Our server/bartender Brian made us feel at home, and was extremely knowledgeable both on the menu, and for his pouring of a good cocktail. Easily, my new favorite spot in Appleton

This was another one of my stops during my recent trip to Appleton, and another great experience. I started with a nice refreshing glass of White sangria. After sipping my drink and chatting with the extremely friendly staff for a while, I ordered the Tomato Basil Bisque. It was fantastic! Creamy, rich and full of tomato flavor, with just the right touch of Basil. There were about 7 entrees that I wanted to try, but I decided on the Seared Sea Scallops sautéed with spinach, over lemon risotto and topped with a roasted red-pepper coulis. This was a great combination of flavors and paired very nicely with a glass of Les Jamelles Viogner. The Scallops were lightly seared, sweet and tender and the Risotto was perfectly prepared with a bright lemon note. The Spinach had just a touch of Garlic and the Coulis added yet another layer of flavor. I was going to skip dessert, but when my waiter said "Bananas Foster Split" I couldn't resist. A kids favorite brought to an adult level! As if that wasn't enough... the Chef offered me a sample of Tiramisu. I never turn down free food so I gladly accepted! Not only was it free but it was so good that next time I will pay for it! Cena is great place in a great space and they are wheelchair accessible!

You Yelp reviewers helped me out once again. I was looking for a place to take my wife after a trip to the Paine Museum in Oshkosh. I came across these reviews. I then checked out Cena's website. Decided to go there today and it was a great choice. Let me say first why I took away one star. ---Their dessert selection today wasn't very good; they were out of their specialty: pecan pie. ---The ceiling in the area where we sat looks ragged; either water stained or discolored by who knows what. ---A few staff members passed by the window next to our table after a smoking break. What I loved: ---The crab cakes. The spicy roasted red pepper coulis and romesco sauce is delicious. ---The Paella. It's classic with chorizo, mussels, shrimp. Also it was very attractively served. ---Certain elements of their decor. I had a taste of my wife's pork chop; it was very good. They are trying to be trendy and for the most part succeeding. I will probably go back when I am in Appleton next.

Wonderful!! What a great treat for downtown, good quality food for reasonable prices! We ordered the brisket and steak. The brisket was fabulous!! The slaw and pasta went great without being simple. The steak was very tender and well seasoned. The atmosphere was great and good service- cant wait to go back!!

My husband and I stayed in Appleton during EAA and found Cena. We loved it! Wonderful service, great wine, fantastic food and beautiful music at one place! We were able to try a couple of menu items and loved both. We wish we had Cena back home in Phoenix. Next EAA trip will undoubtedly include Cena!

My favorite in Appleton. The brunch during the farmer's market is AMAZING! The chicken and waffles are a religious experience. Dinners are outstanding!

I was walking down the main drag of Appleton looking for a place to have dinner by myself, since I was in town on business. I saw the window of Cena from across the street and it looked like a nice space, but I had no idea of what to expect. A 3 piece combo was playing and I thought, "Well, at the very least I'll get to hear some music." But as soon as I walked in I knew it was a great place: the layout, the decor and it's vibe was very cool. But most of all, the smell from the kitchen was heavenly! I sat at at the bar and the bartender, who had devised the wine list, suggested a Cabernet that was great. I ordered the Caprese Salad, and the seared tomatoes were a wonderful surprise. Then I ordered Filet Mignon as my main course. Oh ... my ... god! It was perfect! Tender and delicious and mouth-melting. On top of that, the bacon and gorganzola rustic potatoes made me go into culinary nirvana. All at about half the price I'd pay in NYC! Plus wonderful jazz with a harpist as one of the trio! And the staff was very friendly and I ended up chatting with them all: the bartender, waitress, owner and even a very knowledgeable cinephile of a dishwasher. Seriously, I had a fabulous meal here with great service. An evening meal alone I was dreading ended up being a great night out and I can't wait to return to Appleton to go again!

I still long for the days of the previous tenants, but this is an adequate substitute. The menu just seems to be lacking some excitement. The bartender is always perfect.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. They were very helpful and accommodating in creating a vegan meal. The wild mushroom pasta dish was very good, but quite rich. Would definitely return.
(5)Cameron K.
Cena is a great addition to the dining scene in Appleton. I had an extremely tasty local mushroom ravioli and was impressed by the extensive, and high quality, offerings most of which are local. The sangria was also excellent. Altogether I can't wait to return.

My husband and I were recently in Appleton and had the pleasure of eating at Cena's with a party of five. Everything was DIVINE! We started with the pulled pork flat board and only wished we had ordered an additional one for the table. We ordered the Hierloom salad which was perfectly dressed. The combination of pistachio, fig and Gorgonzola dressing was wonderful. Three people ordered the beef brisket, one person ordered the chicken roulade, and I ordered the vegetarian option which was the Sufferin Succotash. The brisket was wonderful and loved the slaw which accompanied it. The chicken was great and the crunchy jicama, corn salad was perfect seved with rice pilaf and delicious blueberry reduction. Last but certainly not least on dinner entrees was the vegetarian option. EVERYONE loved my dish. It was so flavorful! I'm not even such a lover of tofu but this dish was exquisite. As our dinner so far was a five star rating, we could not leave without trying dessert which were homemade by the owner. The chocolate ganache cake was a chocolate lovers dream! Although I am a chocolate lover, I found myself putting my fork back to get just one more bite of that fabulous cheesecake!!!! Thank you Cena and staff for a wonderful evening. We look forward to making another trip soon to Appelton specifically to dine with you!

Spotted it walking college ave. I saw the menu in the window and saw that they had vegetarian dishes for my girlfriend so we tried the place. Excellent food. Friendly bartender and waitstaff. Awesome atmosphere and decor. Perfect for a date or a night out with your wife or husband.

We dined at cena of Appleton on New Years Eve - it was not extremely busy but definitely not dead. Very nice atmosphere - friendly waitstaff and bar manager. It was a great start to the evening - then came the food ... It was amazing! I had the chicken Marsala - the swordfish was temping though! Perfectly seasoned chicken combined with a great creme sauce. We also dined with a number of vegetarians who at first were a little leary on the limited selection, but then were very happy when their dinner came to the table. Great new downtown restaurant.

Cena has THE BEST OLD FASHIONEDS in the Fox Valley. Maybe anywhere. We usually come here for drinks. I get the whiskey old fashioned sour and my fiancé always gets the brandy old fashioned sour. They both rule the roost. In addition to these drinks, they have a great variety of other cocktail concoctions, and Brian is usually behind the bar and can make something to suit your taste, whatever it may be. Beyond the drinks, the food here will blow your mind. I've only had it once or twice but it is truly phenomenal and worth every penny. Not an every day treat but definitely a go to for a delicious night out.

Love this place! It has the perfect atmosphere for a date night. The cocktails are among the best in Appleton, and the food is always unique and impressive. The only reason I give it a 4 instead of a 5 is that I do wish their menu had a few more options, but I think they focus in on executing a few things extremely well instead of having to manage a larger menu.
(4)Marissa S.
Fantastic food & service! From the meatloaf cupcake appetizers, to the mint chocolate chip cheesecake, and everything in between. This place was fantastic.
(5)Robert K.
Great food, presentation, and service. The salmon special was delicious. A really unique place in the Fox Valley.
(5)Michelle G.
The food was delicious, wonderful, great! At our table we had the shrimp, scallops and the tenderloin. All three were great! Our service was poor, our waitress was not very attentive, we did a lot of waiting and had to ask another waitress to fill our waters. Atmosphere was also mediocre, it felt like the "trendy" mark was bordering on a lil trashy. This place could be beautiful and very on trend with just a little help! We'll probably go back because the food was so good and just pray were seated in a different persons section.

Even better than last time. Just stopped in for drinks this time but was blown away by the selection of spirits on the back bar. Not sure how many places in Appleton can make a great Negroni by call, yet alone top it off with Carpano Antica, and the price is so right. No idea why my first review was only four stars. This place is in a class of its own for Appleton, and a leg up on some of my favorite spots in my neck of the woods. Incredible bartenders, great food, unreal prices.

Food and service were both great on a Friday night date with my wife. Presentation was like nothing else in NEW. I plan to go back my times.

Just had a wonderful meal at Cena. We went after the show at the PAC. Walked over to the restaurant, where we were greeted by a friendly host. We were seated immediately. Our waitress recommended the Maide Malbec, which was sublime! I then had the tomato basil bisque, hubby had the pork belly miso soup. Both were delicious. Hubby had the grilled shrimp and andouille sausage jambalaya, a little spicy but he loved it. My entree was a grilled pork chop served over white beans and sauteed kale. The dish was topped with Memphis coleslaw. It was a visual and flavorful treat! Our waitress, who is a treasure, brought out a complimentary cup of their homemade bananas foster ice cream. It was delicious! Overall a fantastic meal, we will definitely be back.
(5)Crystal G.
Wonderful cozy atmosphere! I have been here several times and always receive great service and delicious food. The menu is small but perfect. Sometimes we order several appetizers to share while other times we select an entree. We are never dissapointed. Will be back often!

The food was excellent last night but service was a little slow. A great place for couples dinner.

My boyfriend and I went out on a date here and were blown away. The inside is simple and humble but serves great food and drinks! Our meals and appetizers were served quickly and were entirely delicious. They buy their produce fresh from the farmers market that had happened earlier that day and also list where they buy their meats, mostly local shops that provide great quality ingredients. Besides their food, they have extremely unique drinks. My boyfriend had a citrus and gin drink that was refreshing and light. I had a pineapple upside down cocktail. It was the best drink I've ever had! It had a vanilla foam and tasted amazing but not too sweet. Overall their food is flavorful, fresh, mostly local, unique, and makes for a wonderful date! Also they have live music on Tuesdays and Saturdays and they are truly talented and add to the whole restaurants experience.

Best meal I've had in years. Over the top flavorful food that belies the the casual, fun, almost punk-style atmosphere. I had scallops and asparagus salad. Incredibly rich and yet healthy-ish and well portioned . Sit at the bar - Service at the bar was fantastic.
(5)Steve N.
I sat at the bar. The bartender was cordial and he chatted a bit with me before I ordered. I ordered a "seafood pasta" dish. Shrimp, and bay scallops over angel hair with cherry tomatoes, fennel and capers, plus a nice topping of shaved parm. The dish arrived piping hot and fresh. It was delicious. Highly recommended.

So good! Flatbread app is this best. Right now it's got spicy chickpeas with an arugula pesto...yum!
(5)Jeff D.
Stop searching Appleton for a quality eat. It's here. Prices are higher than the avg in Appleton BUT so worth it. Go there for the great food, live music, and drinks. No it's not a cheap date but it is better than wasting money at a chain.
(5)Pamela W.
My husband and I stopped for a quick meal before a show. We had a drinks at the bar, both perfect. The soups (one tomato basil, one white bean, kale and pork) were so flavorful. I had Ham and Jam, and was it good! My husband loved his Barbecue Jambalaya. We sat across from the kitchen window, and it was amazing to see 4 men working in such a tight space and doing it so harmoniously and quietly. The service and staff here is excellent, can't recommend any restaurant in this part of the state more highly!
(5)Graham P.
Good food, service was not the best. The wine was over priced for the quality. I would go back.
(4)Alicia V.
Great food, great bar, great atmosphere! I love that Appleton is getting some new restaurants that are breaking from the traditional supper club. This one is a must-try!
(4)Jennifer S.
Went here on Friday January 30th. Food was excellent, bar service poor and inattentive, unless the bartenders knew you were a regular or a friend. Not the first time I have had poor bar service here.
(3)Chad E.
Had a wonderful meal with my wife last night. Service was great. I had the seafood carbonara and my wife had the veggie pasta with the smokey tomato sauce. Both dishes were delicious. Good selection of reasonably priced wine which was a nice surprise.
(4)Nancy M.
Strip steak dinner and pan seared walleye were excellent...great service.
(4)Josh B.
Service was great, and the food was awesome.. my only real complaint would be the back of the restaurant. It just wasn't nice when compared to the front. Great place to go to though for something different.
(4)Liana W.
The food here is great of course, but I think that the real gem is at the bar. What a bar tender! (Bearded fellow, I don't know his name.) The bar is stocked well and this guy really knows his stuff. My friends who are looking for a surprise or something they've never heard of are always pleased with his mixology. And, a big bonus for me, he will make something inventive for the non-alcohol drinkers in your group. Go to Cena for drinks. Right this minute.
(5)Francyn C.
Food was 50/50 between me and my guest. My dinner was delicious. Hubbies Pork Belly was just so so. Needed more of a sear. Atmosphere was just ok. There are group tables in the front and back but along the length of the restaurant it feels like you are sitting in a hallway. We were right across from the restrooms. Dinner was a bit pricey for the atmosphere. Perhaps if they let us sit in the back, we might've had a different experience, but they were holding the open tables for a large crowd. Can't really confirm if they came in or not, but we also had reservations made in advance but were not treated as though we did.

Excellent dishes made with fresh ingredients. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Appleton. I find the prices to be very reasonable. Lots of health choices.
