Haven't yet been to the new location a few doors down, but we used to eat here ALL the time! I don't know much about Hawaiian food, but I do know that this place serves amazing food. We usually get a combo plate with Mauna Loa Chicken & Kalua Pig. Both are delicious, and even better with some of their teriyaki sauce. You also get a heaping helping of sticky rice and Macaroni Salad. We usually get an extra order of Mac Salad because it is SO GOOD. The wait is never long, in fact after ordering, I usually wait about 5 minutes. How great is that? Their service is just fine, nothing special but nothing bad at all. The portions are very big, so we usually have leftovers, which heat up very nice the next day. If you haven't been here before, just go and you will understand how good their food really is.

We have been here a few times for lunch and each time the service gets worse and worse. Finally the experience was bad enough we will never go back. Five of us stopped for our lunch break and waited 15 minutes before our order was even taken. The table next to us was served shortly after we ordered. Almost 30 minutes after that we got our food......well most if us did. One member or our party did not get his food and once we were done eating the server finally showed up with his food. He said no thanks and left. The service was the worst I've ever had anywhere and the food wasn't very good either. You could taste that the pork wasn't fresh and may have even got me sick. I would pass it up. Find hula boy if you want good service and great Hawaiian.

Good Hawaiian food exists in Vancouver! Kalua pork is one of my ultimate comfort foods so anytime I go to a new place I have to have it. The pork was good, nice and tender and flavored just like it should be. The macaroni salad was pretty good too, not the best I've had but still tasty enough for me to eat the whole entire plate (oops). They offer brown rice for a little bit of an extra cost so I opted for that too. All in all I was very happy with the service and the food and would definitely stop by again if I'm in the area.

Authentic Hawaiian "plate-lunch." Most Vancouver, Hawaiian restaurants try to be something they shouldn't, overcharging for things that don't need to be fancy. If you've ever had a decent Hawaiian plate-lunch, this is as close as you're going to get to it in this city. Generous portions of delicious food for a reasonable price.
(4)Eric H.
Came here after a long time craving for Hawaiian food. The portions are huge, but the food itself was mediocre at best. It really just tastes like "not as good" Korean food.
(3)Bradley L.
Very delicious. I had the kuli kuli ali'I style. A lot of food makes it worth it. The macaroni salad is mostly mayonnaise, dont recommend that. I don't know if its just that taste associated with Hawaii since I had similar taste at a Hawaiian joint in Eugene OR.
(5)Spence R.
Saw this place on Yelp and thought I'd try it out (I'm new to the area and have been using a lot of Yelp). There's nothing special about the eatery itself (just a small place). This is one of my favorite places. I've been a few times in the last couple months. The meat is ALWAYS so delicious and tender. They don't have it warming under heat lamps (they make it as you order). Sometimes the macaroni salad is a bit warm and flavorless, but the rest makes up for it. I will definitely keep going back.
(4)Maile P.
this place is good! better than tommy o's and pacific paradise cuisine combined. cheaper too. my hubby being born and raised in hawai'i, this place suits him well. i pretty much tried everything from the 1-7 (i think) selection. the kalua pork, i make it better on my own :), it is not smoky enough, that is just me. i wish they had a 2nd location on the east side of vancouver, would eat there every day.

Bein' a Howlie, I don't really dabble a whole lot in the Hawaiian scene here in The Couve, but who doesn't like kalua pig or macaroni salad? What I've ordered so far has been good - Mauna Loa chicken (spicy) and the aforementioned Kalua Pig. I like the spice on the chicken and the pulled pork was nicely rendered and flavored. The first time I went at lunch time, it seemed I was the only guy who didn't call ahead. Lots of high schoolers (Ft. Vancouver High I guess) came rollin' in text messages blazin' and got their food. 'Damn those meddling kids and their mobile devices. I wouldn't have gotten away with it if not for them!' (yeah, a little Scooby Doo action) It's not dirty, but definitely could be cleaner. The front counter guy has been super friendly both times I've been in. A nice addition to the substantial Hawaiian scene in The Couve (Tommy O's, Hula Boy, Patrick's Hawaiian to name a few more). Even better, there trying to make it over in that tough stretch of retail on 4th Plain. Keep on keepin on!

Had a Groupon on the cheap, so decided to start checking out the local Hawaiian food places. Since dah hubz has now been to Hawaii, he has something to compare it against. This place was "ok". Nothing great, nothing really bad. But it seemed just kind of "average" for take-out places around here. Not something we'd be going back to, but not because of anything they did wrong. There were really only two things we were disappointed about: no take-out for soup I had their Vegetarian Saimin & loved the broth! Lots of flavor! HUGE bowl!) & we couldn't add sausage to the saimin, even tho we were more than willing to pay the extra for it. Sad, very sad. We also had their Chop Steak (#5) and the Mauna Loa Chicken (#6), with a Spam Musubi (looks like a spam sushi!!). We would have had the Haupia, too, but they were out (sold out, on an afternoon? Shame, shame!). I didn't care too much for the chicken pieces cause I'm so picky and the pieces had a bit of fat on them. Tho, for most people, it wouldn't even be enough to notice. The sauce was good tho. I loved the beef in the #5...yummy! It came with rice and macaroni salad. The salad was ok (the hubz ate it), but nothing spectacular (hubz made no comments about it one way or the other). The lady at the counter was friendly. The place was reasonably clean (though a few tables did need to be wiped down). I didn't check the restrooms, but the hubby did. Guess that wasn't so great and kind of icky, according to him. It is a unisex restroom, only one. In all, not a bad place at all. Just nothing we would go out of our way to get to again. Now, if they get To Go containers for the soup....well, that'll be a different story! :)
(3)Stuart B.
Good food, reasonably priced. I had the beef and chicken teriyaki. The chicken was a "little" over cooked/dry but that could have been just a bad night. :) I would still recommend them!
(4)Julie B.
I wasn't feeling too good today and teriyaki sounded pretty easy on my stomach so I stopped in at this new place close to home. I was pleasantly surprised. After careful deliberation I decided on the Honolulu plate which is described as thinly sliced beef marinated in a Korean style Teriyaki sauce. The meat was so tender and lean (globs of fat on my meat creep me out, I know it's silly) and the sauce was sweet... exactly what I wanted. The macaroni salad was creamy and peppery but I love black pepper so it was ok with me. At time of posting most meals are $7 ish with the sandwiches and noodles being a bit less. I personally got 2 meals out of my regular sized order so the value for most people should be good. Other sides available - kim chee, spam musubi (basically spam sushi sold as popular snacks in hawaii) Haupia (a jellolike coconut pudding) and a side salad. Daily specials available. There is the standard Pepsi selection for self serve drinks and a collection of Hawaiian Sun juices and teas. There were signs for a High School kids special, around 3 bucks for food and drink. Possibly the best deal I have ever seen... I'm in college I want a special too!!! The atmosphere is nice with the hawaiian music playing and island photos and objects in cubbyhole shelves. Too bad I forgot to order the Haupia...Dangit!

Delicious and relatively inexpensive, Hawaiian Time infused all of the the food I sampled with a "homemade" flavor. For lunch, I selected a "Mix Plate," consisting of Huli Huli chicken and Kalua Pig. Both were excellent, with the Kalua Pig being especially moist and flavorful (a stark contrast to the dry and stringy pig I've eaten at a number of local establishments). The value at this restaurant is excellent: the $7.95 I spent on the Mix Plate could easily have been a meal for two with moderate hunger. The owners describe the "Small Kine" (two syllables) size as being, well, small - with the "Ali'i" (ah-lee-ee) size being a generously sized box. The enthusiasm and energy the owners infuse into this simple restaurant is palpable--and deserving of a visit. [Some other dishes on the menu: Chop Steak, Mauna Loa Chicken, Chicken Katsu, sandwiches, and Saimin.] [N.B. This is in the same shopping plaza as the Albertsons, on the SE corner.]
(4)Betsy F.
Yum YUm Yum! I love this place. Whenever I am in town you'll find me here! :-) Cheap, Good meals with a homemade taste! I love it!
(5)Cy K.
I had the Huli Huli Chicken which was absolutely swimming in grease. They were well charred with a nice sauce, but the amount of oil that came on the plate swallowed up the button quarter inch of chicken and rice to make it inedible.
(2)David H.
Horrible! Wanted to give a new local business a try. Big mistake! Apparently, Hawaiian Time, is a LONG time. 30 minute wait for Korean beef, rice, mac salad. An order of Siaman noodles arrived about 20 minutes in...basic ramen, supposedly with scallion broth, was plain and inedible with not a trace of scallion or anything but a salty canned tasting broth. Thought to myself other foods would probably be fantastic and cooked to order...not so much. Waited all that time for what tasted like reheated day old beef. I've had way better, way fresher elsewhere. Was told regular order was huge, enough for two for lunch. True, if three bites works for you! Very disappointed. Will not return...EVER!
(1)Cara-Mia H.
My favorite cheap/ large portion eats in the couv!! I always get the 4/6 mix! A++ for food and customer service. We have used the catering twice as well and it was amazing!!
(5)Ashley G.
I loved loved loved! the food that I had there. I had the Kaula Pork over white rice. The service was slow, but to make it up they gave us more food for free!
(4)James T.
HEY BRAH!!!! You gotta be a Hawaii Boy to love this place. After going to the 3 Days of Aloha Festival. I needed some Hawaiian grinds, I was wanting a Lau Lau plate BUT no moa so I wen settle fo da Kalua Pig.... plenty RICE (how I like'em)!!!! HO! BRAH BROKE DA MOUTH..... EH, TANKS KAWIKA...... ALOHA MY BRADDAH!!!!
(5)Gayle H.
This place is great. Their macaroni salad is amazing. They get pretty busy around lunch time so if you only have an hour I would say call ahead. The food is always hot and plentiful. There is more than enough to share with someone else or save leftovers for another meal.Ono for sure!
(5)Heidi K.
We were here the first time & had a Groupon. Ordered the Huli chicken (good flavor but too dry) and a mixed plate of Kalua pig & teriaki beef (this was a better choice than the Huli chicken). It was all O.K. but nothing to write home about. In fact, I had purchased 2 Groupons but I won't be going back to use the second. That's not saying much for the food when you don't want a return visit with a Groupon even.
(2)Johanna M.
This restaurant is excellent for a fast satisfying meal. Portions are really large and the food is superb. The ambiance is a bit lacking but who really cares. It's just not a first date spot unless your date is really casual.
(4)Jamie H.
We moved from Vancouver to Beaverton a few months ago and this is what we miss the most. We have yet to find a Hawaiian place that can even come close to the Hawaiian Time Cafe in Vancouver. They have the best meat, the best sauces and the best macaroni salad. We miss them so much, we occasionally drive all the way up there for dinner.
(5)Rick W.
Pretty darned good. I've been to Hawaiian type places before and felt kinda 'meh' about them. Went to HTC and was pretty happy. Got the Mix Plate with the spicy chicken and the Korean beef and really enjoyed it. We will be back.
(4)Jacob P.
Nothing has changed. I think it's worse than it was before. 3rd strike HTC. I'm DONE!
(2)Janders S.
Yea, good grubs. Local style too. take a menu, call in ahead of time or maybe check the site for the menu, call 5 min out. grab a beer, sit in the parking lot or even inside. relax
(4)Terra H.
Really good food, BUT all their service wear is disposable. Really wish they'd switch to reusable plates, forks, etc. the server today asked me if my food was "to-go" or dine in, but it still came in a styrofoam container. That doesn't make any sense.
(4)Lee K.
Born and raised in Hawaii and this place serves plate lunch just like home. Every time I'm in the area,I stop by for lunch or dinner. Favorite plate is the ali`i mix plate. About $8 for the plate and I always take some of it home because I can't finish it all in one sitting.
(5)Trista D.
I have not actually 'dined in' to this cafe, but I have had their AMAZING macaroni salad recently at a potluck. I don't know how they make it so tasty using just mayo and spices, but it is absolutely delicious. In fact I have brought it to a couple potlucks myself and it is always a big hit. Can't wait to try some of the other items on the menu!

With only one other patron before me, I ordered a Kahlua Pig sandwich and took a seat. Four other parties entered the restaurant after I placed my order. After three of the four late comers were served, and 25 minutes later, I asked what had become of my order. The person behind the counter disappeared to the kitchen, returning with my order. When I asked her what took so long, she told me that the person working in the kitchen had never made a sandwich before and needed help. Yep, that's right, the person working with meat products in the kitchen knows so little about food that scooping some premade meat and filler onto a bun had him or her so confused that the food prep process came to a halt. Now, that gives me a lot of confidence about the health conditions in that kitchen! For what it is worth, the sandwich is terrible. Imagine shredded pork with some mayonnaise mixed in on the most bland bun of all time and you get the picture. Yuck! If you are a teenager looking for a laid back place to hang out after school, this place is probably worth knowing about -- otherwise, you can do better at almost any casual restaurant, even the Subway next door.

We went to HTC for the first time using a Groupon. OMG what great food. I ordered the Kalua Pig. It was the best I have ever had here or in Hawaii. My wife ordered the Loco Moco. She too said she loved it. The amount of food was STUPENOUS and the prices are great.. I took my leftovers home and fed four more people. I'm serious, this is crazy good. Whatever you do order the "Kine" (small) ordered unless you can eat a horse. There are just a few tables so this place needs to expand or open more stores in Vancouver. Thanks HTC for doing the Groupon thing. We will be back.
(5)Dan S.
Not worth the wait, I have gone here 4 times, I have always had to wait, even when I called in before hand. But this last time, I called in 10 minutes earlier, and drove in. And waited and waited and waited. 30 minutes of sitting was too much for me and i left. 40 minutes should of been long enough to cook anything.
(2)Jennifer E.
The new location is great! My husband and I went here late on a Saturday evening and we received great service. We shared the Kahlúa pork and a pot sticker appetizer. Both menu items were extremely enjoyable. Their teriyaki sauce is VERY good. I love their macaroni salad. We will be going back for sure.
(4)Amy S.
A real guilty pleasure. There are times when their mac salad really hits the spot but be careful as even their regular size meal is a lot of food. I like getting the mixed plate with the mauna loa chicken and garden veggies.
(4)Michelle D.
My favorite place for Hawaiian food in Vancouver! The food is wonderful and the prices are decent. I love the kahlua pig with teriyaki sauce and mac salad! It is so delicious. I would suggest holding on to their take-out menu and calling in your order because service can get very slow at times. There is a high school nearby and teenagers like to come in during the school year. Call in your order ahead of time and take it to go - the food is worth it!
(4)Heather R.
Sitting here actually ready to cry. Missing home and my family ;( Im from Hawaii, everytime I come here, theres always some kind of sad sounding Hawaiian Song on. Food here is good this is where I come to get my local food fix. Tonight we had the MIX PLATE with Kalua Pig and Korean Style beef! Maunaloa Chicken is good, and the Hamburger Steak Plate is good as well! Try it, you'll like it! I gave only 3 stars cause Ive had better, just saying! lol
(3)Lana I.
I was greeted as I walked in and the service was outstanding. I had the best macaroni salad I ever tried but the yakisobi noodles were over salted and too much sauce.
(4)Brady P.
Bang for the buck. Can't beat this place. My only wish is that they weren't so short staffed.
(5)Josie M.
Love the food and service. It is definitely that island comfort food that brings me back to the islands. We found this place on our way back from Oregon and will be back. Definitely recommend them.
(5)Tara P.
I'm from Hawaii and ordered the kalua pork and mauna loa chicken plate. Super delicious, totally authentic. Will eat here again!
(5)Ashley B.
If you haven't tried this place you are missing out! Such amazing food! Their prices are very good as well. My fiancé and I come here often and usually get takeout. Today we dined in and had such great attentive service. Also, they just started selling their sauces which are fantastic.
(5)Katie L.
The food is good, but only if you have (and I'm not exaggerating) 45 minutes to wait for it. We have never gotten our food in less than 30 minutes. Their staff could also seemingly care less most of the time.
(2)Nicole B.
Went here the other day with the Mr! Our hotel was a few miles away, we were hankering for some moco loco. We ordered the moco loco & the portuguese sausage for dinner. I liked the sausage the best! The moco loco was good, but the gravy was a little on the thin side. Wasn't too crazy about the mac salad either. It was suffice enough, for being a few thousand miles away from Hawaii:)

(NOTE: This review is for the newer Portland location) Having been born and raised in Hawaii, I need my local plate lunch fix every now and then. The newer Portland location is located at the former Thai Terra spot, and I stopped by on its second day of business last month. Understandably, it was a simple layout when I entered the building. A few tables to sit at, each with a couple of squeeze bottles containing house-made sauces. One is teriyaki, the other is sweet chili. The menu has the usual local favorites, from the Loco Moco to Kalua Pig. The Huli Huli chicken is the most popular, grilled boneless, skinless chicken marinated in that house-made teriyaki sauce. Me? I want spicy food. The Mauna Loa chicken is the restaurant's signature dish, pieces of grilled boneless, skinless chicken covered in a spicy-sweet "lava" sauce. Options are mild, medium, hot, and "Super Hawaiian." The server said it's $1 more for the Super Hawaiian. She warned me that it's really spicy, but I pay no attention to such warnings anymore. I ended up with a Mix Plate of the Mauna Loa chicken and Kalua Pig ($10.95 total after adding a buck for the Super Hawaiian sauce). Great job on the proteins. Delicious grilled chicken. Excellent kalua pig, juicy and generously salted (like it should be). The chicken and kalua pig rested on a bed of rice here. A few places in Hawaii may do that, but not all of them. As always, the true test lies in the macaroni salad, and Hawaiian Style Grill's version passes with flying colors. Not too much mayo and a good amount of black pepper. The mac is again cooked around al dente or just past it, my personal preference. If you want, consider pouring some teriyaki sauce on the mac salad. You can get brown rice instead of white rice, and that costs 50 cents extra. If you're not a mac salad fan, you could try to ask for an "all rice" option, but since the menu expressly says "no substitutions," you'll probably get denied. Not sure, though. So what is in this Super Hawaiian sauce? Looked like sweet chili sauce, perhaps mixed with sambal and some minced red Thai and habanero chiles. I believe the hardcore heatseekers will enjoy that Super Hawaiian option. It brings the heat without completely engulfing your mouth in flames. Yup, I could easily see a food challenge created here. The regular plate lunches come with two scoops of rice and should be more than enough starch for most people. The "small kine" plates just get one scoop rice, while the "ali'i" plates get three scoops rice and probably an extra scoop of mac salad. Kanak attack waiting to happen. Even though they open at lunchtime, I've also seen the breakfast classics like spam or Portuguese sausage with eggs, and rice. If you like fried food, try the chicken katsu or pork cutlet. One of the workers there mentioned to me that I'd be seeing some new menu items only for the Portland spot in the coming weeks, including soups and new desserts. Being next to Portland Community College's Cascade Campus, I can see it being a great spot for business overall. I enjoyed my lunch here and probably will also end up checking out the Vancouver spot in the future.

Now I'm sad, after reading all the reviews seeing the macaroni salad was actually good. I went there last night & it was disgusting & I love anything with pasta noodles. It looked old, was very bland, & had no flavor at all. I took 2 bites just to give it a chance. Still gross. My boyfriend who eats anything had to eat mine. Besides that the food was AMAZING!! I had the mixed plate with Huli Huli Chicken & the Garden Mix. Oh my goodness was it so good! I don't usually like cooked onion or pepper, but they cooked it so perfect! My bf had the Teri Beef he loved it. I tasted a little bite & I agree, it was very tasty! The place itself is really cute, I think it was an old Godfather's Pizza or something like that. There was 3 ladies working. All really really nice & friendly. Our food took a while, but they were pretty darn busy and those 3 were working so hard. I know I will definitely be back!
(4)Kiki T.
I have been to this place a couple times a few years ago and i dont remeber it being so gross. I always ordered the Huli Huli Chicken and tasted like they had marinated it and cooked it fresh. Went back a few times to try them out since i work closer to them now and i have lost hope. there chicken taste a couple days old reheated VERY CHEWY,looks sketch on the inside when you bite it and there service wouldnt be so horrible if they hire a few more people. *****NOTE TO OWNER: Please Lets your cooks know to NOT serve reheated meat, it will taste gross

After finding the Peruvian restaurant on this site in Vancouver closed I ventured up the street to this place. I thought based on previous reviews it'd be worth a shot. The place is in a small shopping complex with what used to contain an Albertsons as the anchor but has since closed down. It is located next to a cricket wireless store and a thai food joint. I arrived about 5:15pm and was immediately greeted by a young girl shouting across the restaurant "Hello. Will this be to go?" To which I responded No and was then told to go ahead and sit down wherever I wanted.....so I did. She finally made her way over and asked if I wanted something to drink. Having a drive back to Seattle and being tired I asked for a cup of coffee. You'd of thought I was asking for an exotic drink or something with how she looked at me. She said sure Ok and scampered to the back. She came back with a glass of water. I thought maybe she didn't know what coffee was perhaps but she says that she just brought it out for me while I was waiting for my coffee. Evidently they had to make some new. People who eat Hawaiian food don't drink coffee? What about Kona coffee? Some of the world's best in my opinion. Anyway she asked if I was ready to order. I decided on the mix plate with Kailua pork and the Mona Loa chicken the house specialty. She finally came back with a cup of coffee. Then she came back again to ask how hot I wanted the chicken. I said medium....because although I like spicy foods the menu described hot as "try it if you dare" I don't like it when foods are too hot and ruin the taste of the actual food. She brought out my plate. 3 scoops of rice and 2 macaroni were included on the large plate with the pork and chicken. The macaroni was pretty good surprisingly. The pork moist and good flavor. The chicken was moist unlike one of the previous reviews that describes it a as dry but really didn't have that much heat to it. It was okay..basically chi Ken cooked in a sweet chili sauce. . but nothing special. The husband of the older couple next to me had ordered coffee also and surprised at how long it was taking. The girl commuted that their coffee maker was really slow. I guess they had to wait for the beans to grow in the back. The old man asked for refill on the coffee. I thought I'd take advantage and placed my empty cup at the end of the table. The girl looked my direction and sent to the back. Instead of coming back with coffee she came back with the bill. I asked her for a refill. At 2.19 a cup by God I was going to get a refill. After another 5 minutes she came back but the coffee was more bitter this time. Different cook? Overall I'd recommend the food but the service is definitely lacking. If I have to ask for a refill on my coffee I usually start deducting from the tip. I'm into the relax island attitude but customer service is still key to any business.
(3)Stacy D.
Was happy to find this place. The spam Musubi was yummy and a great way to start my meal. I ordered the Loco Moco which was great though the hamburger could have used some seasoning. The macaroni salad was an extra delight on my plate. Would visit again!
(4)BaconLove R.
Worst service and best food. Such a dilemma. Time and again I have had horribly slow service here. I have even called my order in 30 minutes before wanting to pick up and still had to wait another 30 minutes. Staff doesn't even seem to care that they produce dependably bad service. I have no idea how their overall rating is so high.
(1)Justice L.
Desided to order x2 so I could have some food for lunch... I bought the teri beef and kaula pig plates... Kaula pig was nice and moist, rice was cooked correctly, beef was a bit chewy, and the mac salad was bland at best. Ohana's in Portland has them beat thats for sure but since I live here in Vancouver Im sure they will see me again :) But I still gotta try Hula Boy first before I say yay or nay
(3)Nick H.
I didn't feel like going to Tommy O's and spending 40 bucks on 2 lunches. Nor did I feel like driving to East Vancouver. I felt I could have gone the same distance south and hit someplace in PDX. Screw that, I'm Hungry Right Now. Thus, Hawaiian Grill. I guess you would call their selection middling; no Lau Laus or items that take 3 days to cook. If you are willing to work within the limits of their menu, I think you can go away happy. The macaroni salad was fine but if you are one who likes it peppery, use that little container with the black specks in it to your heart's content. The rice ( pearl I presume ) was cooked just right. Cat had the mixed vegetable plate (duh) and enjoyed it. I had a mixed plate of Kahlua Pig and Mauna Loa Chicken. I chose the mild version of the chicken and thought the mild hotness was a nice counter to the sweetness of the dish. The pig was fine; not so salty that I couldn't taste the smokiness but you could tell there was salt involved. I thought all the separate flavors played well together. The portions were quite acceptable. I was full but not uncomfortable. Not a fancy place but it was clean and the service was both polite and efficient. We got 2 lunches w/ just water for 20 bucks. Nice. I would certainly return.
(4)Somefood G.
Some of the worst service I have ever experienced. Really ignorant staff, obviously do not care about the job they do. Will never return. I will use word off mouth to destroy these lazy people!
(1)D L.
ZERO stars waited an hour for meal. They set it on counter for take out. Person at the counter claim to be new saw her there during the summertime. Owners need to get their stuff together here. Why would the person taking customer orders at the front counter answer phone calls in the middle of taking our order 2 times and not say excuse me??? Then give us our 5 glasses and fill our drinks and give us a number for us to go sit down. I'm irritated cause I had my 4 boys with me and my wife had to go to counter twice to get her hot tea. Needless to say our food sat while we watch people come in and order and get their food to go. Luckily a customer said our order had been sitting on the counter. We took our food home since it was in foam take out left our half drank sodas and tea on tables. To top it all off all our food we paid for wasn't in the take out containers. I'm in customer service and this place is completely bottom of the barrel. I will start going back to Portland for Hawaiian food. Spent close to $80 on meal. Will never give another dollar to this business it's too bad cause really good food tastes like SHIT when the service is SHITTY.
(3)Chris J.
Love the food, excellent prices, good portion size and friendly service. We eat here whenever we are in the area and never disappointed. My personal favorite is the kalua pig. Salty goodness with a side of mac salad.
(5)Bryan K.
Come here all the time for Kalbi or Huli chicken. Portions are a little on the small side for the price but still reasonable nonetheless. The Mac is great and so is their teriyaki sauce. Definitely one of the better Hawaiian restaurants in the Vancouver/Portland area.
(5)Jessica K.
Amazing food. Amazing service. Clean establishment. Seriously wish I lived closer. Huli huli chicken and the kalbi chicken were both delicious!!! Not a big fan of the mauna loa chicken but that was just preference. All in all it was one of the better Hawaiian bbq places we have eaten at. Yum!

meat was very good and the katsu was tasty. kinda quiet but I liked the Hawaiian theme going on. Rice and Mac was okay.

I was pretty surprised to stumble upon this place. After reading numerous Yelp reviews, I thought it would be fair to try it out myself. I ordered the Mauna Lao chicken and the Kalua pig combo. They give you 1 scoop of macaroni salad and 2 scoops of rice. They said the chicken is really spicy so I ordered the medium but I could hardly feel any heat. Although the Mauna Lao chicken is their signature dish, I wasn't blown away. Chicken was too soaked up in the sweet chili sauce. I feel like you can just make this at home with a bottle of sweet chili sauce. Also the chicken was on the drier side. I would give this dish a 3 stars at most. However, the Kalua pig blew me away. The dish is so simple and yet so supremely delicious. The meat was tender, moist and with a hint of smokiness, and had something else that reminded me of Laulau pork. For a second, I thought that it was cooked in taro leaves but that would be more like a Laulau. I was just amazed at how good and simple it was! I would give the Kalua pig 5 stars solid. The macaroni salad was decent. It wasn't too creamy and you can definitely taste the black pepper. The combo was around $10 but I had leftovers. I would want to try their saimin next time (their version of ramen). The place is clean and bright. The waitress was friendly enough. It's between self service and a sit down full service. The waitress stopped paying attention to you once they bring you the food and you have to pay at the counter. I would probably do take out next time. Of course I would come back here. The Kalua pig is one of the best I've ever had!

Definitely worth stopping here! A few friends and I stopped in for lunch as we had a workshop that we were attending just down the street, and it looked interesting on Yelp. I had a mixed plate with the Mauna Loa chicken with medium spice and the Kalui chicken. It can with a huge portion of rice and a large scoop of the macaroni salad. I loved every bite! I will say it was pretty empty, but the food was great and so was the service. We only had to wait about 5 minutes to be served, and I definitely had no complaints!

This place is ono. Especially since I not on the islands. Mac salad is up to par, better than the other hawaiian places. There are two portions to choose from, awesome prices. Really wish there was a location on the East side of Vancouver, that is my only complaint.

Being from Hawaii, I am always looking for anything that resembles a plate lunch. I love their macaroni salad and I always order the maunaloa chicken and Kalua pig. It's not quite like Kalua pig at home but it will do. All the maunaloa chicken is pretty much spicy chicken. The only downside is that it takes about 25 minutes for your food so If you're in a rush call your order in. Oh and my boyfriend tried the mochiko chicken. He said it was good but didn't taste like normal mochiko chicken and says it tasted a bit gingery. I didn't try it because I don't like ginger. Other than that this place is great.

Foods good, service is horrible. Girl at cashier her text tone was going off, all profanity. Had my food for there and she never even came to see if i needed more water or how the food was. I was the only one in there, now i see why...

Everything I've had is amazing! Absolute 5 star rating top to bottom. The teriyaki sauce is the best I've ever tasted anywhere, as is the Mac salad. The Mana Loa Chicken is awesome and can be made nice and spicy. Make sure to try the Spam Musubi too, you won't be disappointed.

Our day took us to the Couv. Since we were there, I thought let's check out some good rated Hawaiian places and Hawaiian Style Grill showed up with a 4 star rating and I said that sounds good, let's try it. As we pulled up, we noticed the sign on the window said they moved, but only down a couple of doors. We walked in and noticed a bare restaurant as far as decor goes. They had only moved 3 days sooner. No biggie. We sat down and waited for a bit to get menus and water. We decided on the Huli Huli chicken and the Kai Bi chicken. The Huli Huli is basically Teriyaki Chicken, it had flavor but the macaroni salad did not. The rice was done correctly. The Kai Bi (Korean style char broiled ) chicken was very good. All in all, a decent place but not worth going out of the way to get to.

Ehh. It's ok. Sometimes it takes a long time to come up. Sometimes the service is just blah... Sometimes the food just isn't right. I have been here three times an experienced on or two of these things on every trip.

Enjoyed Hawaiian Style Grill so much, we had to come back twice this past weekend. Everything we had was so good... from the kalbi chicken, huli-huli chicken, kalua pig, chicken katsu, and teri beef. The mac salad was good too. But my favorite was the saimin!!!! Soooo good.. reminds me of Shiro's (for all you Hawaii folks). I will definitely be back!

If you think you know about Hawaiian plate food or grew up on the islands and haven't been here then you are just plain lolo. If you want to try authentic Hawaiian comfort food then come here. These guys are the real deal from the mac salad to the musubi. In fact I don't think I had food this good in Hawaii. I'll be back!

"Thanks for taking me to the ghetto for dinner!" says my friend. "Anytime. Only the best for you." "No really, I'm actually excited about this. This is going to be good." "...ya, you're right. There's an Aaron's furniture rental down the street. That means it's super white trash and bound to be amazing." I popped in here last night for dinner with a friend. She had the Huli Huli Chicken plate and I had a combo plate with half Huli Huli Chicken and half Kahlua Pork. Of course everything came with a mound of pasta salad and a ton of rice. And of course there was no 'effing way either one of us were going to finish. I really did give it the old college try at making a sizeable dent though, which was a terrible idea. The food was pretty good. I have to admit that it's not as good as the Hawaiian time over in the Pearl (which was sold to different owners), but it was definitely a winner. My kahlua pork was perfectly tender and flavorful; it was my favorite item. The chicken was decent, although kind of overcooked. It definitely had a pretty decent sauce on it to make up for that though The pasta salad was really good, but the other location definitely had them beat there. This one was dryer, less peppery, and I dig the pepper. Vancouver Hawaiian time in the ghetto, you are an ok guy. I don't even resent you for making me drive to the skeezy part of town,

The rating for this place is based on four visits- 3.5-4 stars, I'd say. Definitely hits the spot when you're craving Hawaiian, and the Huli Huli chicken is perfect for us petite yet *ahem* hungry gals, who want to look ladylike and cute while we're stuffing our faces.

We went here for lunch. Figured it was 4 stars so it was worth a shot. The food was 'eh. Not somewhere I see myself going back too. The macaroni salad was just elbow noodles with a ton of mayo and pepper. My chicken was on the dry side and the beef was stringy and chewy. My boyfriend wasn't thrilled either. The place needed all the tables to be cleaned off. I had to choose the most clean table but all had sticky spots. And my shoes stuck to the floor. Definitely needs a good mopping or two. Glad people like it here, its just not for me.

Fantastic Loco-Moco here, burger was so friggin' moist and tasty! And Holy Mackeral, or should we sal, Holy Mac Salad-- I try to avoid mac salad at all costs, but dang, though! That cool, creamy, peppery goodness is such an awesome contrast to the steaming hot sticky rice and sizzling burger patty and egg! Spam musubi available here and was also a hit-- I prefer when my rice errs on the side of moist and sticky, rather than overly dry, and this here rice was so crumbly moist it practically exploded on impact w/my mouth---Waddya know: I broke da Musubi, even as it broke da mouf'! One star off b/c it is a little pricey (esp. compared to the most excellent carts, 808 Grindz and Flyin' Hawaiian!); also, the service was a little aloof, and pretty slow as well. When I walked in and up to the counter, I was the only one ordering, and the girl spun around as soon as I came up to her register, turning her back to me and leaving without saying a word for about 10 minutes. Then when she came back, she chose to help a guy who was obviously just then walking up to the till, when I was still standing in the same spot as I had been been when she abruptly turned and left. Like I said, aloof. But the food WAS awfully good... A note about the decor, featuring a potpouri of relics from the islands, incl. old fashinoned candies and goods incl. those w/Asian writing on the wrapping: among the albums there's no Elvis, and no Don Ho? That may seem cliched, but I have it on pretty good authority that Hawaiians of that generation (there was an Andy Williams album on the wall!) loved them some Elvis. And "Tiny Bubbles"? Hey you can't mess w/a classic.... Take it away, Mr. Ho! "Tiny bubbles (hu'a li'i) In the wine (i ka waina) Make me happy (au hau'oli) Make me feel fine (i ka waina inu) Tiny bubbles Make me warm all over With a feeling that I'm gonna Love you 'til the end of time...."

We ate at this establishment on two seperate occasions... Both times were pretty AWEFUL!! We ordered mixed plates on each visit. First time we ordered the Kalua Pig & Teri Beef. The Kalua pig reminded us of canned shredded chicken (the stuff that comes in a tuna can) It was EXTREMELY SALTY.. Unbearable.. couldn't finish! The Teri Beef came out looking and tasting like extra salty, rock hard Beef Jerkey... The "Macaroni salad" they serve with the meal is straight up Macaroni Noodle, with large amounts Mayonaise... There is NO other ingredient added.. Oh wait a couple sprinkles of pepper. That's it!! Next visit was Mauna Loa Chicken, Huli Huli Chicken, and Kal Bi chicken.. All dark meat.. All as thick as a tiny piece of cardboard (about as dry too) the portion was a couple small bites of each. definitely not worth the $14.00 a plate there charging!! This place has horrendous food quality.. We wanted to make sure we tried it twice to be fair.. Definitely will NOT be returning to this food establishment!! YUK...

Great service, very clean, nice music. Great potstickers & musabi. Husband had pulled pork & teriyaki chicken with rice & macaroni salad. It was wonderful! I had teriyaki beef & maui kuana chicken with green salad & rice. It was wonderful. They've earned the 5 stars. We will be back. We will be bringing others with us to eat.

Went here tonight for the first time. Walked in and was promptly and warmly greeted. Our food was ready in about 15 minutes, not enough time for my 2 year old to get bored. That was awesome. For lunch time I would probably call it in to have it ready, unless you have an hour. We ordered the chicken katsu and a mix plate of the Kekoa special and kalua pig. All I gotta say is "Yum!" The chicken was crispy, golden brown, and delicious. My kid can be a picky eater and he loved it. The kalua pig was properly salty and porky (and being Islander I know pork.) The Kekoa Special beef was tasty as well. Creamy and lightly peppery would be how we would describe the local style macaroni salad. We are glad we found a tasty locally owned food joint that is close to home.

Their food is good, the price is very affordable, but the place itself is dirty and the service was slow. I hope their kitchen is not as dirty as their dinning area coz if that's the case, that would be really disgusting.

The food is really tasty but I always get it to go, which is handy because everything is served in "to go"boxes. This place is in a strip mall and doesn't really have any atmosphere. The huli huli chicken, kalua pork, teriyaki beef, and garden mix vegetables are really good. Haven't tried everything on the menu, but I'm working on it.

My partner and I have been trying to make an effort to try more new places lately. We just tried this place and both loved it. I got the Mauna Loa Chicken, made Medium spicy and she got the Honolulu plate (which is thinly sliced beef). Both of us were very very happy with our food and intend to come back for more. The medium spicyness on the Mauna Loa turned out to be wonderfully flavorful without actually reaching the point of being painfully hot, which was great. Next time I might end up getting the regular size instead of the small, though -- didn't realize it was going to be so good!

This place has my favorite quality in a restaurant, consistency. I find myself having cravings for the (not 100% sure this is what it is called) Hawaiian beef? I think it is #3 on the menu and I know it isn't the teriyaki beef one. Either way when I get it, it tastes just as delicious as I remember. I am not a person to fully judge a place on the establishment, since I am there to eat not play in the bathroom or anything. The feel of the restaurant is very basic and reminds me of a cafeteria in school. Not a place I would want to go and just relax and enjoy a meal. I tend to want to order my food here to go so I can eat it at home! I definitely think the food is worth trying. Everyone I have introduced to this place has loved it. My only last tip is, for some reason the huli huli chicken isn't my favorite. I ordered it the first time we went there and I was jealous of what my boyfriend had nstead if mine, that being said I still enjoyed mine, I just loved his!

Great place! One of my new favorite eating places in the city. I have eaten here a number of times, brought many friends and they all agree, it's grubbin! The father/son owners will give you great tips on add the right mix to their foods to make explode with even more flavor, such as their teriyaki sauce on the mac salad and spicing up the Chicken Katsu sauce with Tabasco and pepper. Try it, you'll love it!

Hawaiian music playing and very fast service on a very slow Saturday afternoon. I came in here while in the neighborhood. I order the Mauna Loa Chicken mild, and it was very spicy for something that is mild, but I could now stop eatiing it, is was so good. I would love to feast on every item on their menu, if only i lived closer.
