Sex in the City and the Yogi Bear were amazing. The Yogi bear was like a PB and J sandwich in a glazed doughnut! Yum! The doughsants were good, but tasted pretty much like a standard glazed doughnut. The staff was friendly and nice as we took forever to make up our mind.

Came here with my family. All 7 of us and we were amazed at how many ginormous and yummy looking doughnuts were available to try. Didn't even know what to get. I got sex the city and it was pretty tasty. Other FAM members went for the s'more, Leonardo DiVinci, chocolate cream, a zebra doughsant, the bill gates, and double chocolate. They all loved theirs so I say that's a good thing. We didn't all finish them though. Lol except for my 13 year old and husband. Only thing was I wish the women helping us would have been more helpful and explained the doughnuts choices a bit more, especially since we mentioned it was out first time every being there... We felt kinda rushed to get the order done so the next person can be taken. Also, that day (don't think it's an everyday thing?) there were many little nats or fly buggies everywhere. Not a great thing to be seeing but others didn't seem to bothered by it seeing it that they sat in the store eating their treat. Lol We will return with hopefully at a different time so we can take our time and out kids all younger littles in picking out a choice. The staff was friendly and the doughnuts were good. So 3 stars. Didn't give 5, because of the things mentioned above. Other then that it's a great treat. Soooo big! Lol

Stopped over in Seattle for a long weekend to visit my buddy and he said we had to check this place out. Wow, get ready to have some epic doughnuts... We had a croissant doughnuts... Choclate doughnuts... All kinds! Amazing! Highly recommend if you like doughnuts at all!

The name "legendary donuts" is an understatement. Never before have donuts been so glorious or epic. I've literally never seen donuts this big or delicious looking. Do yourself a favor and stuff your doggone face with their glorious product, you will not be disappointed. I checked it out with my family after a fest in Tacoma this weekend and I'm really glad I did. The staff was really great at explaining their selection of donuts. And most importantly I walked away with an amazing box of happiness. Definitely a must if you're hanging out in Tacoma!

I have been here numerous times and each time the staff has been consistently according and sociable. Atmosphere... Reminds me of a grunge cupcake cafe... I guess that says "doughnut" pretty well! Cubic seating, dimly lit with high industrial ceilings painted black, and many local papers to read. It's noticeably greasy with random discarded napkins hanging around like tumble weeds. The doughnut menu changes up, not sure how to predict the daily selection, but most staples are plentiful at most given times. The doughnuts themselves are large and sloppy, best way to put it. They come in three standard price ranges for the size and complexity of the varieties, with "legendary" being the most expensive at $3.75 or so per pastry. Doughnuts- they're pretty good, but not great or amazing. This place is more focused on being unique, and a little daring.

Great location, but really dark. These days you want to go into a place and it feel open, airy and clean. Red, purple and black paint feels very dated and a little grungy, but I'm getting the vibe from Seattle/Tacoma that grunge is all the rage. Service is nice. Donuts are good. Prices are fair. I'm curious if the donut fillings are made from scratch? I want their donuts to be named after more people. There are a few, but I feel like they should all be named after some one or something Legendary and for a reason. Bill Gates is a chocolate cake donut? I mean, he's a pretty boring white guy... Shouldn't he be a vanilla cake donut with white frosting and some blue glasses drawn on it? And the Homer Simpson is a giant glazed donut? But he eats a glazed donut with prink frosting and sprinkles... Good donut spot for the area. 3.5 stars, but yelp doesn't have half stars.

  • Amy T.

Legendary Doughnuts weren't as legendary as I thought. They bordered between average and good. I found their doughnuts to be a little too dense and hard for my liking. However, I do have to say that I decided to try their goods in the early evening so maybe the morning batches are a lot better. Although, I believe they should be more consistent if that were the case.

My friend took me here after having brunch. Not having a dessert after a meal is not a meal, they have so many different kinds of donuts, if I had the money and stomach, I'd buy most of them. They all looked so delicious. Especially the hot fudge sundae one. I ended up getting their doughnut croissant, my friends got an apple fritter and another type. When you're up at the registers, there are some treats for the dogs too! I got my friends dog a donut treat with orange frosting and sprinkles. Too cute!

Good donuts.. But the place looks filthy. Ceiling and a ceiling fan covered in dust, floors and baseboards look like they haven't been mopped in months, tables aren't wiped down, napkin despisers are empty.. I would have rated this 5 stars if it was actually clean.

  • Leah J.

Seriously good donuts! Really interesting flavors, friendly staff, and a cool interior. Parking is a bit of a pain but definitely worth driving around to look for a spot and carrying your donut haul all the way to your car :) I really enjoyed the sea salt caramel and peanut butter maple. I will stop whenever I'm in the area and not on a diet.

Friend said doughsants here were pretty good so came to give them a try. They have lots of creative doughnuts both in shape, name, and flavors. But the flavors are questionable. GOOD * Old Fashioned - Simple classic glazed cake doughnut. Hard to get wrong, probably the best tasting thing we tried. OK * Fire ball - Doughnut ball with a spicy jalapeno filling. Nice for kicks, but not something I'd come back for. MEH * Snickers Doughsant and Oprah Doughsant - Both had rather sweet, heavy, creamy, icings. Tasted like the icing flavors, but my mouth felt like it was dry and full of thick peanut butter consistency cream. Was really hard to actually feel the texture of the doughsant. I'd recommend trying a glazed doughsant instead. AVOID * Yogi Bear - This is basically a peanut butter and jelly doughnut in the shape of a paw, but there's very little peanut butter and jelly and it's mostly just very lightly glazed dough.

I don't remember what I ordered or how I managed to stumble into this place. I hazily recall reading a sign that said donuts, so after I drank a few beers at Red Hot I decided to check it out. The donut names are fun, but like I said, I don't remember what I ordered. Maybe an Arnold Schwarzenegger? I don't know. I do know that for some reason I thought it was a good idea to buy 10 different donuts. Why? I wasn't buying for anyone else. My critique of these donuts...well, they will make you fat. These fuckers are huge and they slather frosting and icing all over them! My favorite by far was their version of the cronut. I went for that sucker before all the others. How many calories was it? Did I severely shorten my life span? I may have consumed around 5000 calories, because I took all of these home and proceeded to gorge myself. See pictures for verification.

Yum! Being a portland native we have our famous Voodoo donuts. This place has that kind of vibe without all the silly business of waiting in line for hours for a donut. Plus, they definately deliver on deliciousness. Their case offered a wide variety of donuts big and small and just down right absurd. They have everything from your classic donut holes dressed up in delicious flavors to a cinnamon bun the size of your face. Salty, sweet, spicy and savory (alliteration yo!), they have it all! Plus It looks like you can have themed donut cakes as well. We got four donuts to try, some alittle disappointing and some downright tastey. We tried the sea salt caramel dosant, blueberry fritter, Bavarian creampie donut, and a blueberry filled one as well. The Bavarian creame was a tad disappointing as the creame was more creame and less custardy. The blueberry fritter is the size of a catchers mitt and because of that the middle of ours was still doughy and stringy. Sadly I was only able to eat around the edges. The blueberry filled was our second favorite. My favorite by far was the sea salt caramel dosant. Their rendition of the big cronut fad. Very delicious giant! The caramel is nice and creamy and the punches of salt work amazingly well with the crunchy chewy texture of the donut. All in all I enjoyed the donuts here. My girlfriend even surprised me at work on her way home with another sea salt caramel dosant which I told her I was too full to eat...only to be consumed a few minutes later with a nice dark cup of coffee. Super glad we gave this place a shot!

What a lovely little doughnut shop! Such great variety! From filled to miniature, to cake and fried doughnuts, to those that come in the shape of fries and hamburgers; they have a little bit of everything. Each doughnut also has a clever name relating to pop culture. LD is a bit more expensive than your typical grocery store doughnut, but you're also getting a more beefed up and glamorous version of your run of the mill doughnut. The storefront is a bit dark as the walls and all the furniture are all black. Summertime is definitely the most inviting as they open up the garage door at the front of the store and let in the sunshine. Sunshine and doughnuts...what an amazing combination.

I got 99 problems but a cronut ain't one.. This is one of my main stops when I am in the area. It's funny because even after stuffing my face from one of the awesome restaurants around the area, I still manage to make my way in here for some deep fried sugar carbs. They always have a nice selection to choose from and whenever I stop in it's hard for me to make a decision. Some of my favorites include the bacon maple bars (yup still not played out yet), the cinnamon roll donut, and of course the sacred cronut (and I gotta admit, they make a mean one here). The place is pretty cool inside and it has an industrial/sleek feel to it and the open air seating is a nice touch especially on the warmer days. Service has been good but it gets busy here so you do get that rushed feeling sometimes. The price is good too considering it's a specialty donut shop so expect to pay higher price. I like the location, it's easy to get to and finding parking hasn't really been an issue, just keep on mind you may have to drive around a little to find a close spot. Great, after writing this review the urge to devour some fried sugary goodness has now hit me..

Stopped here during my lunch break and shared an apple fritter with my friend. My friend ordered a S'mores and said it was delicious but a bit hard, maybe it was due to all that chocolate coating. The apple fritter was massive, we didn't even finish it. My only "complaint" was that it could have been fresher and maybe filled with more Apple bits. Otherwise it was a good experience and we have two happy tummies.

This is my last time here. It's my fourth visit. The coffee is Good, doughnuts plentiful and varied. Doughnut quality is only average. You need a key to use the rest room. They had the wall near the street opened up as the weather was great, that was cool and nice. The place is just too noisy for me. It's a bit expensive as well compared to other shops along this road. Overall there are better places nearby

I'm not a big fan of sweets, definitely lean on the side of savoury things- however, the donuts I've had from legendary do a pretty good job at living up to their name. The treats are good and some of my friends' favourite donuts in the city- and the team there is always super friendly and helpful. Go Legendary!

  • Val T.

Okay...so I've had my fair share of donuts from different places and honestly I'm not much for cakes, pies and such..Cookies now that's a different story but I'm not here to discuss all of that. I'm here to review on donuts. A coworker of mine was thoughtful enough to bring us a mixed dozen from this place. I was taken the minute I bit into their raspberry doughsant!! I decided to go in on my own right when they opened and grab a few for my family and they loved it! Great place and the customer service was stellar, they were patient with me when I couldn't decide on which heavenly concotion to choose from. It may be a bit pricey but worth the money because these aren't your average donuts. Each one has their own unique look and taste. I've tried a few and each one was a delight to consume. Definitely recommend this place for people that want to take something for family while heading out of town or for those with family visiting to try out for the first time! Definitely a rave to have at the office or family event!

I was in Portland for business and asked a friend if they wanted anything for their birthday as I was coming back to Seattle that day for their party. They sent me a laundry list for Voodoo Doughnuts. [Ugh] My 20 minute wait in line isn't bad from what I've heard, but still 19 minutes too long for a doughnut. I got two dozen assorted doughnuts across the Voodoo spectrum. Brought them back to Seattle for the party and the response from everyone across the board was "meh". Since I had put in the actual labor, I tried hard to like them. Not one of them was worth while. Any stoner can pour Fruit Loops over day old maple bars. I stopped by Legendary Doughnuts on a whim. I expected tremendous disappointment (a la Voodoo Doughnuts) based on it's blustery name. Holy crap this place is great. Everything they had that was clearly touristy or reeked of marketing was pretty blase. The Oprah was okay, not great. The fire ball (jalapeno cream) was cute but underwhelming. But everything that looked like it belonged in a bakery was divine. The double chocolate is usually a favorite of mine but most places make it dry and chewy. Top Pot Doughnuts in Seattle makes a terrible one. But this one was indulgent and rich. So good! I even got a couple doughnuts that were not my usual type of fare. There was a croissanty one with strawberry cream that was outstanding. Totally a surprise. Not everything they make is a home run, but strictly in comparison to their competitors they are definitely the best I've had in a long time. No syrupy texture that lingers on your tongue like Krispy Kreme and doesn't turn to sand after your first bite like Top Pot. Damn I wish they had one in Seattle.

I have only had pieces of two different doughnuts from here - An apple fritter and a twist. The apple fritter was not my favorite, but not because it wasn't good - I just don't like "fluffy" apple fritters. I prefer thin, crispy ones. The twist was AMAZING and it was HUGGGGGGGGGGE! I could not believe how large the doughnut was! I'm looking forward to going some day and trying a couple of their different doughnuts.

The donuts here are good... as good as Voodoo Donuts (Portland Shop), if you know what I'm talking about and it's minus the 45 min wait. Lots of cool unique options. Cons: The close EARLY and often sell out of donuts, so I've learned not to get my hopes up and any one special donut.

Came in on halloween to pick up an assorted dozen for my birthday party that evening. I walked over there after lunch, so I didn't have to mess with re-parking. I love this part of town. Very quaint and bustling. Lots of neat little shops. Lots of autumn leaves this time of year :) The selection was bountiful and lots of their donut combinations showed a lot of potential. I could barely communicate with the lady behind the counter, and felt like I just wanted to get out of there. While some of the donuts were spot on, some of them were overly bland with little to no flavor, while others felt overly greasy. I really do want to like this place, but I always find something that bugs me. And because SOME of the donuts were actually pretty tasty and well balanced, i'll up my star rating to 3 just because of this. But keep in mind, there's better out there. Don't settle for mediocrity. Side note: throwing greasy bacon on donuts because everyone else is doing it doesn't make it right. bacon responsibly please.

Great donuts!! Staff is great! The Simpson donut is what I get all the time! Thanks legendary!

  • Lucy J.

Pretty good. Unique choices, like The Oprah donut. The regular donuts are enormous. I suggest sharing or get the mini donuts which are basically normal size. I feel like I need an insulin shot just by walking in the door. I'm not sure the donuts are totally fresh--they taste like they might be a day old. Still good, but not the best. What is awesome about this place is that they make fun things like a "donut cake" which is a bunch of minis staked into a pyramid to resemble a cake. We did this for my daughters birthday and it was a fun alternative to the usual. These guys also do things like hosting preschool field trips. Extra point for being cool.

Our friends brought over a half dozen legendary donuts for us to have as dessert and I am so glad they did! Now I know that I don't have to drive all the way to Portland for the best donuts in the country. I liked every donut I tried but the top two contenders were the cinnamon roll and the maple bacon. I've avoided bacon on donuts for years but finally gave in and tried this one. Lifechangingly delicious. The donut was a flaky croissant like texture, bacon was candied to perfection and the maple glaze was sweet and satisfying. That frosting on the cinnamon roll donut was magical, as was the cinnamon spice on the donut. And the donut itself was gigantic! All four of us got a giant piece and there was still enough leftover for me to enjoy for breakfast the next day (along with leftover pieces of the other donuts. Perfect breakfast of champions). I was given an education on Legendary Donuts, that they make three types: amateur, famous and legendary. We only had the legendary ones and I don't think I'll ever get around to trying any of the others. Why get amateur when you can get legendary? Now I know what I'm going to ask them to bring every time we invite them over for dinner.

Think of the best doughnuts in Seattle. Now think about paying just a fraction of the price for them and you've got Legendary Doughnuts! I was in the neighborhood visiting another business that ended up being a disappointment. I started looking on Yelp for something that would salvage my pit stop on the way to Portland. The nearest option was Legendary. The apple fritters were HUGE! Seriously, I'm not sure how anyone can eat it in one sitting. This is everything you imagine when you think of a fritter. Perfect color, texture and taste! The dolce pillow doughnuts are definitely worth a try. Pillows filled with cream - my choice was peanut butter cream topped with chocolate. The cream was so decadent and paired perfectly with the chocolate. Legendary's version of a doughnut croissant is the doughsant. I tried the caramel sea salt and it was just enough to bring a tear to my eye. Fantastic! Sweet, salty, sticky, flaky goodness all rolled up into a pastry. These are just the highlights. The fam and I bought two boxes full of doughnuts for around $20. That's a deal we could never get in Seattle. Seriously, so glad this place isn't nearby or I'd be here all the time. The man at the counter took time to speak with everyone. He was very gracious and clearly took pride in his work. He was also very understanding as I gawked at the doughnut cakes - think HUGE cake sized doughnuts. Seriously, the selection of goodies is amazing! I could stare at that case for hours. Instead, I found myself saying, "One of those. And those. Ooooh! What's that one. Yes, one of those." Clearly, I have problems.

Went later in the afternoon so there wasn't a lot of donut selections left. There were actually people in front of me that were discussing who would get the last type of some specialty donut. I just grabbed two cronuts (their version), two Oprahs (maple bar with bacon) and some other monstrous donut. I also had some coffee. I spent around 13 dollars for five donuts and a coffee. Personally, I feel it's a little expensive, but alas what is to be expected from a speciality donut shop. It was pretty empty when I went, I've heard it's crowded earlier in the day and probably with a better selection of donuts.

  • Felicia C.

Creative flavors but tends to be on the sweet side so have a pot of black coffee at your fingertips. I like the cake donut and the stuffed pillow donuts. The cronut was interesting but very syrupy, more like a baklava.

Fun! Great! Tasty! Can't go wrong with this place + they have coffee & coffee milkshakes!!! Yumbers!!!

This place has an amazing selection of donuts! They always have creative donuts as well as the classics available. Legendary Donuts is a fitting name! They are busy often but the service is fast and friendly!

  • Doug J.

Best doughnuts in Tacoma for sure. They have a creative selection of doughnuts and the apple fritter is the bomb ! Prices are reasonable given the quality . They have a lot of novelty huge doughnuts which would be fun for a kids birthday or a surprise at the office This place is worth parking on 6th ace

    (5)
  • Tom K.

Wow what a waste of money. Unless you must have the exotic, go across the parking lot to Cutter Point. I do not see how this place will make it. They seem to only make the unusual stuff, so if you just want a simple cinnamon twist or apple fritter, do not go here. You might see something similar but it will have peanut butter or blueberries instead. My selection was even stale.

    (1)
  • Pat P.

You walk in and a picture of Bill Cosby greets you. We didn't order anything to drink, needless to say. Apart from their taste in wall decorations, the donuts are tasty and eccentric. You have large choices, like the Fat Albert and the Snickers Bar, which we got. They're rich and all about the toppings, which you're not going to find on your average donut. This is a good donut shot, but it's kind of expensive if you just want a simple donut and coffee.

  • Ann W.

We were there 2 hours prior to closing so I was surprised that there were still doughsants and Oprahs (bacon topped maple bars) still available. I was so excited to try their glazed doughsant - a square shaped version of Dominique Ansel's Cronut without the ridiculous line (or pretentious trademark on the name). It was everything I could ever hope for...nice crispy, buttery croissant layers and the familiar, pillowy, sweet goodness of a doughnut with every bite. The price was also decent, around $2. A bonus is that they donate all their unsold goods for the day to nearby shelters. Sweet treats made by sweet hearts.

Huge doughnuts. Great service. Not outstanding doughnuts but decent and humongous lol.

  • Ian L.

Strewth: Awesome donuts are at Legendary. However, the sweet and perhaps-too-savory taste of a Coastie certainly did not compensate for the bitter taste of the customer service experience. As this was my first visit, I can't say whether our donut dispenser, Dave, was having an off moment, or he's always this grumpy and impatient. He seemed genuinely flustered that I didn't immediately comprehend their proprietary (poorly labeled) donut caste system.

    (2)
  • Riff L.

Got a dozen, like the chubby checker donuts, but box was so sticky...now my steering wheel is sticky and seats...not cool.

Worth every weight watcher point you give up!! Tasty and wide variety. Love the doughsants.

    (5)
  • Kay H.

Again, they are amazing. Super friendly employees and amazing doughnuts. I got another dozen of legendary doughnuts. It's a little expensive. They are definitely a special occasion place for us. That said, you get a great bang for your buck. The way I look at it is that I would pay that much for a simple sheet cake (which I could make myself) that I would pay for a legendary dozen (which I cannot make myself). Their doughnuts are HUGE. As far as treats go, you're getting a good value and they taste amazing.

  • Mabani H.

I love this place! I stumbled up on it after doing a wedding at the chapel next door & knew if be back for more! I make it a place to stop at when in the area. Their doughsants are amazing (my faves are original, Oprah, & lemon cloud I think was the name)!!! My kids love all the other quirky doughnut flavors. They do have certain items that are seasonal which I did not know, but I was told that if I wanted something, I could call a day before & they would have it made for me. Customer service is always awesome when ever I stop by. Dave made my sons bday doughnut cake (2 stacked rings with maple glaze & bacon) it was a big hit!! I've been to a few other local places but nothing like legendary's.

So my boyfriend and I decided that we would give this place a try after reading the positive reviews. We went around noon on a Friday , there were a few customers but nothing unbearable. It seemed that many were getting their orders to go. Unfortunately, my first experience was not good. I ordered the Fluff-A-Nutter and my boyfriend ordered the blueberry cheesecake pillow. I was unable to take more then a few bites when I realized that the The Fluff-A-Nutter dough was completely under-cooked. You could stretch the dough from the inside. I suggest instead of fresh bananas which prevent the dough from being fully cooked inside to perhaps frying the dough first and then making a custard base with bananas and marshmallow. My boyfriend and I told the staff about the issue and they were more than willing to offer us a complimentary doughnut, what was problematic was how they had mentioned "oh that happens" Ummm, that's an issue, either don't serve it or fix the recipe. No excuses. The blueberry Cheesecake pillow was flavorful but had way too much jelly. The ratio between dough and filling were completely off. Although I had only two doughnuts from their selection, it left a pretty bad first impression. I get the whole garage/grunge look but it comes off dirty and unkept. The two doughnuts I had were short of spectacular, however at least the service was friendly. Not an entire fail but definitely not a place to go back to.

  • Jesse N.

Legendary Doughnuts always lives up to their name. The doughnut inventions are creative and tasty, with a great selection, even during those times when they get slammed with customers. While all the doughnuts are great, where they truly excel is in the Doughsants. Not only is the name light-years better than "Cro-nuts" which sounds foul no matter how you say it, the pastries themselves are a complete and utter win. It's pretty much the ideal sugar, butter, flour combination. Get one. Put it in your face. You won't regret it. (diabetics need not apply)

Donuts are superb and fancy! Be warned however that if you finish more than 1 of these you will most likely have a stomach ache. They are SO sweet. It's fun to try all of their different crazy donuts and every time I walk by I want to go in because it smells so good, but maybe better for dessert than breakfast.

  • Lucas R.

Been here a few times now and this has become our favorite Sumday morning breakfast... "Might be the best fritter I have ever had" and "they made a lemon jelly on the spot just for me?" were two quotes from our group this last weekend. We are always impressed with the service, creativity, and price. Adding bacon on my maple donut doesnt hurt either.

Overpriced doughnuts are good every once in a while. You can't find monstrous doughnuts like these around Seattle's Eastside. I came here around 11am and parking was easy peasy. Came in and was greeted promptly. The cashier explained the different types of doughnuts they had. And best of all allowed me to ponder at the doughnuts before picking. (You da best). I giggled at the names they had for their doughnuts. Unfortunately I am really sad to say that the Oprah isn't as good as I thought it was going to be. Bacon and doughnuts sadly shouldn't go together :'( TL;DR Dear Legendary Doughnuts, Please open a location around Seattle's Eastside. With love, Legendary Doughnut Fan

Okay, so this review is based upon a late afternoon visit. I'm going to have to break this review down in sections, so here we go: The fare: nothing short of amazing. I ordered the yogi bear ( oh good god yes!) And jankies it was amazing. The other half ordered a cannoli and he wasn't too impressed but let's be fair here, who orders that when you have donuts?! The atmosphere: it was quaint I suppose. They have a picture of bill Cosby so that's an automatic win for me. The seating was not too great though. Window seating was cool but no real place to be with your party and not feel like you were hanging with mister Cooper next to you.. Ex The supply: do not go late in the afternoon or you and your friends will be assed out of Elvis and homer Simpson donuts. So think ahead. Also, no straight non dairy milk options. Bottom line: yes yes yes! Welcome to Tacoma Legendary donuts! Hope you're here to stay.

Sometimes inconsistent. Favorite donuts are the yogi bear, sex in the city, and the sea salt doughsant.

I visit family in Tacoma every other month (visiting from L.A) and I've came here maybe 4 times (each different times of the day) Don't get me wrong the Doughnuts can be quite yummy, BUT the customer service is awful I feel as if they are racist and don't care to hold conversations with anyone who is not white! seriously I feel rushed Everytine and judged right when I walk through the door. It would be a very chill cute place on 6th ave if they had better and more friendly employees!

  • Elle G.

Finally got the chance to check out Legendary Doughnuts and was left nothing short of impressed! The selection is crazy and you really can't go wrong with whatever you do choose. Pricing was extremely reasonable and I will be recommending this place to anyone in search of a great doughnut!

  • Carlos S.

It's good! They could use better seating and have low fat milk but the doughnuts are incredible. I had the eggnog dossant it was good but the original is better! What really made the visit was my wife wanted a specific doughnut and they didn't have and more but one of the employees went to the kitchen and made it to order.

Moved recently. Discovered Legendary. This is bad news for our waistlines. Similar to VooDoo in Portland, but less of the skeezy stuff that VooDoo does. One word: Doughsant. And all of it's variants. Whole family loves Legendary. We find too many excuses to go eat donuts now.

I recently moved to San Diego and I had to come back to Legendary donuts. There is NOTHING like this place here. NOTHING. San Diego has not had the luck of being introduced to the gourmet/monster/crazy donut experience. Now, on to my experiences with Legendary. I've been there several times in the past. The first time I went was about 8 months ago. I had a Groupon and I was mystified. There were so many choices and everything was just so foreign compared to what I was used to in a donut. But I tried 12 different donuts. And loved them all. And I was hooked. I've been back at least 7 times, not including this most recent trek back. I love their plain donuts, and their tiramisu donuts. They taste like heaven. Now, I usually get a dozen to go. I don't stay at the restaurant to eat. It's a bit small and I'm not a fan of the "6th ave" scene. The place is clean, and there are a few tables to sit at if that's your thing though. The staff is friendly and they have a good selection of juices and such to go with your donut if you stay. TL;DR: GO HERE AND EAT DONUTS.

I love their doughnuts! Very tasty, baked fresh and a variety that doesn't ever leave you bored. I would have given five stars, except for a big pet peeve. The listed hours on their website are not accurate. The family wanted doughnuts for a treat, so I checked Thursday hours, said they closed at 7pm. It was 6:30. I drove down and they were closed. Please Legendary...don't leave me hanging. I had to get my fix. Besides that, good location on 6th and decent service.

Tacoma is the City of Donut Destiny!!! And apparently I want to be the Donut Queen. Why? Why is this fried dough Mecca within a mile of my house!!!???? I was so much safer when it was only in Lake Tapps! Here's the "Drill", there are 3 types of donuts. Essentially, 3 price tiers for the varying amount of bling on your donut: LEGENDARY - The Cranberry Log is a seasonal offering and good example of what they carry, topped with cranberries, frosting, and walnuts - it is filled with cranberry sauce( s3-media1.ak.yelpcdn.com… ). This includes the Oprah (maple bacon bar), Snickers (choco glazed with peanuts and caramel), Hot Cocoa (choco piled with whip cream & marshmallows) and Yogi Bear (bear claw filled with pb & j) One dozen is $20. A single Legend is about $2. FAMOUS - A little confusing what counts as Famous, but I got things like the Chubby Checker (your choice of glazed or sugar dusted cinnamon ring), Albert Einstein (raisted donut smother in choco & coconut) and buttermilk bars bigger than your fist. AMATEUR - maple & choco bars, glazed donuts...and the selection most mere mortals carry. Here's my inaugural box from this location, the picture is hideous, but you'll get the idea of their "Mix & Match" - which is 4 donuts from each of the above described categories for $16. ( s3-media4.ak.yelpcdn.com… ) Legendary is the welcome & long overdue sign of innovation to come for Tacoma...people are looking for the good, the quality, the diverse AND the trendy. They are looking for places with later hours - Legendary is open til 7 during the week (Welcome to the 21st Century TTown!). Hold on to your hat...it's gonna be a great ride! 29/30 (22B)

    O. M. G. This place... This place is amazing! I wanted to treat us to doughnuts while on our trip and I was not disappointed! I got a dozen and a wide variety. The cake doughnuts were the best I've ever had. The old fashioned buttermilk was so good. Tender and fresh with a good glaze. The sex in the city is the most amazing doughnut I've ever tasted. The blueberry was like a bagel yummy doughnut thing. It was all so very good. I have one more day here, and you can bet your butt I am coming back here for seconds!!! The service was GREAT and the manager guy came around the counter and spent time with me to show me the doughnuts and explain everything. I felt valued and appreciated. This place is a gem and Tacoma is lucky to have it! So I came back the next day and they remembered I was from out of town and this was my last day. I placed my order, and the owner/manager asked, "can I make you something special?" Heck yea! Show me what you got! What an outstanding experience. The best customer service around. These guys are serious! EAT HERE!!!

The cashier was super friendly. The lady ahead of us in line couldn't decide what to order and the cashier was super sweet and patient with her. Went around 9 am so I guess I just missed the morning rush. There is no parking lot so you park on th street. The doughnuts were yummy and were still good the next morning. I can't remember the names of the ones I order but I would definitely go back... in a month... because if I went more often I would need new clothes... and a forklift

This place is still pretty awesome, and the staff has been really awesome, I enjoy coming here. They are always sold out of most of the good stuff by 2pm though, I'd love to take my boys after school, but we tend to avoid it around that time, because the options are so limited. I wish they were a little better stocked.

Best doughnuts ever!! Try the salted caramel doughsants, yogi bear, and blueberry cream cheese doughnuts:) if people complain about price, they don't appreciate the quality of these guys and that they are specialty doughnuts. Go to safeway if you want something cheap and average. Staff is always super friendly. I recommend ordering the day ahead if there is something you really want because they don't make the same stuff everyday. Also, come early. They open at 5 and could be down to half the selection by noon if it's been a busy day

This place is repeatedly super! I am pleased on more than one occasion. Service is fast, pleasant and sanitary! They never fail to be busy, even during dinner time, but I never suffer. One evening they were out of a special maple bacon my daughter wanted as a bday treat, so a nice man MADE her one. Coffee is damn good to boot!

They're doughnuts are amazing & delicious, but their customer service SUCKS!!!! I really couldn't feel more unwanted. We walked in about 15 min before they closed because we were craving doughnuts and she was OK with me. Then my friend was ordering her dozen and she started the eye rolling. 3 groups of people walked in while she was ordering hers and every time someone would walk in, she would roll her eyes. Just very rude and unwelcoming

Interesting variety of donuts here, a lot of tasty ones, parking can be a issue though, and the prices are higher then most doughnut shops are. Overall good place to get a doughnut every once in a while, but due to high prices here not to often.

"Legendary" is the right term. They clearly take great care in their craft because these doughnuts are like none I've ever seen. Staying away from this place might be a challenge.

Finally getting around to talking about their Legendary Doughnuts 1 lb doughnut challenge (held from mid-April to mid-May). It's the third year this challenge has gone on. Must call at least one day ahead to reserve your spot. Basically, anyone over 10 years old would have to eat a doughnut in five minutes that's bigger than a person's head. At least 9 inches in diameter and very thick. It's a $6 doughnut that's not on the regular menu. The challenge admittedly was harder than I expected, and it really came down to the wire. One of the employees keeps time and lets you know when each minute has gone by. Around the 2-minute mark, I still had a good half of the doughnut to go. Four minutes in (one minute remaining), I probably had a quarter of the doughnut left. I forced it down as quickly as possible and finished with seconds to spare. I was credited with a time of 4:42, although the video puts my win somewhere around the 4:50 mark. Either way, it's still a win. VIDEO: youtube.com/watch?v=-M2J… The doughnut had a crusty exterior (not including the hardened sugar glaze coating). The interior was relatively soft but a bit dry. To be fair, it might be harder to keep a huge doughnut soft and fluffy. I'm not sure how long the 1-pound beast had been sitting out, but I didn't have to wait at all for my doughnut. A rush of customers had arrived just as I was going to start so things got delayed a bit as the staff took their orders. This was a fun challenge and I'll try to participate again next year! NOTE: The Tiger Tail doughnuts here are ridiculously huge. I'll have to get one next time and write about it.

I really wish calories were not a law of the universe. The selection was awesome (everything from "what the..." to the classic) I always think about getting two donuts b/c three would just seem greedy and gluttonous...I usually end up with just one after an internal struggle. However...the have MINI DONUTS! problem solved one and a half donuts please, brilliant. They also have all sorts of drinks Coffee (delicious) Chai tea (next time please) hot and ice tea etc etc. The service was great...she didn't seem bothered by my internal struggle (see above) or the busy line. They even delivered our goodies after we found a spot at the open roll up window/door. Bottom line...cant wait to go again.

Legendary Doughnuts has some of the best doughnuts you will ever have! They are amazing and always have fun combinations and flavors to try! They are a little expensive but totally worth it! The next time you are ever craving a doughnut this is the place to go! :)

What a treat this place is! Came by here for the first time today after reading all the great reviews! We ordered a Fat Albert, Oprah and Bavarian Creme filled doughnut! These donuts were like on steroids because none of us were able to finish the donut with the exception of the Bavarian creme filled one because we shared that one! The staff was friendly and eager to help out in deciding which doughnut they recommended. I wish they would have had more of a selection to choose from what they offered from the online menu. They even offer doughnut cakes for special occasions and even doggie treats:doughnuts and cannoli(carob flavored treats)!

What a quaint donut shop reminded of Vodoo donuts in Oregon. They had so many different choices at 11:30. Most donut shops are sold out of the good ones by then. Gotta have one!

I am an ex-Portlander (Oregon that is), and I used to frequent a doughnut house with a similar flair. This morning traffic at 7am was a clusterf@ck on the way to work. So what did I do? I called in and told them I was going to get doughnuts because traffic sucked. The shop is located in a friendly looking neighbourhood- which did remind me of parts of Portland.I promptly found street parking which was a breeze. Walking into the shop I was greeted by how clean it was and it didn't have that thick vaporized doughnut grease hanging about. The options were pretty good. I had to order 2doz doughnuts. I'm not a cake doughnut fan so the first dozen were nothing but yeasty, carb goodness. The second dozen contained both cake and raised. Trust me, that red velvet cake doughnut was tempting. The doughnut hostess read my mind- she loaded me up with not one but TWO bacon maple bars...how did she know this is how I judge a doughnut shop?! The prices were up there. I shelled out a couple $20 bills and got $6 back. Whew, that was quite a bit but it had to be worth it on some level right? Getting into work I had to immediately claim dibs on what pastries I wanted to hoard. After this I allowed co-workers to approach me for a doughnut offering from the Sugar fairy. After the doughnuts were dived out, chaos broke loose. Fellow workers were hooting and hollering while swinging from the rafters. I've never seen so much energy at 8am with smiles and happiness. Sugar induced happiness but so what, I like seeing people happy. Back to this bacon maple bar. It was huge and again needed to be cut in thirds. The bacon on top was plentiful and crispy. It was crumbled which helped keep the crunch factor high. The next two doughnuts I tried: Bavarian Creme and raspberry filled. I cut them in thirds. Although the flavour was there and the filling really good, it was lacking in volume of filling. I was disappointed to be let down with such a small sampling of the fresh fruit taste or the thick butter like cream found in the Bavarian. Bummer, because if I'm eating unhealthy amounts of calories first thing in the morning: Go big or GO HOME!

I'm a doughnut lover, and when I read about Legendary Doughnuts coming to 6th Ave, I was thrilled. But being a doughnut lover, and having eaten many, many (many many many) doughnuts, I could not give them 4 stars. To be fair, I think my rating would be more like 3.5 stars if half stars existed. The thing I love about this place is the amazing customer service. I notice a few people mentioned bad experiences, but in the three times I've been in, the person behind the counter was helpful, friendly, and patient (little boys are not quick-deciders). It's a great place to go with family and on the weekends, though the interior could be a bit cozier. So why the 3.5 stars? It's the dough. I've had some pretty darn good doughnuts from this place. Highly recommend the "pretzel" with salted caramel on top. But when it comes down to it, this place is all about novelty. The cake doughnuts aren't slightly crispy on the outside with a perfectly risen interior, light and moist. The maple bar doesn't collapse and melt in my mouth like an amazing, eatable cloud of sugar and carbs and everything else that is so unhealthy but tastes so right. I'm getting carried away and am now craving something I can't have... but the fact remains. The basic doughnut recipe is uninspired, somewhat chewy, and occasionally dry. It isn't excellent; it isn't horrible. It's A-OK. It's fun, it's cute, it's a nice place to go. But if you are a true doughnut lover- prepare to be let down.

I'm visiting the Tacoma area and a relative of mine brought to legendary doughnuts. I had a wonderful experience here and even though I only got one doughnut ( I wish I had bought more) it was amazing! I have to come back here next time I'm here to try there other flavors. They have a good selection of doughnuts with different sizes and ingredientes used. Definitely would recommend this place to others.

After all I had heard I had to try this place out. Legendary donuts were mostly a disappointment. I got a box of donuts for a group event, good mix and they all were at least day old, some seemed like a couple of days old. This was on Sunday morning, when other donut shops in the area have fresh donuts out. The place I usually go isn't far from legendary donuts and has really never let me down. The best thing I had was a maple bar with bacon made from phyllo dough or something similar and it was at least a day old too. I doubt I'll repeat as this place is expensive for donuts and really not worth it.

Delicious. Had the fluffa-nutter which was cooked all the way through unlike for some reviewers. Kiddo had the Homer Simpson which was bigger than her head. Place was hoppin' even though we got there very early. Also brought home a macoconut, a blueberry cake and a double chocolate for tomorrow's gastronomic debauchery. Yeah.

How can you really NOT like a Doughnut shop and especially one named, "Legendary?" Definately NOT this girl!!! This was my official first check in but I had the pleasure of sampling goodies from here a couple weeks back and me and the fam were just waiting to make a stop ourselves and pick out "our" assortment and that we did, going for the mix and match dozen:) I'll start with the only negative so far and that's the price, it is a little spendy but I guess they have a groupon that I will have to look out for, if it's still available but I don't see myself ever getting a whole dozen for us because that was straight gluttony on our thinking:( Yes, we just finished our Sunday morning soccer game, hence 80 minutes of soccer can make you feel like you can eat anything but that was a little much on the "dough"nut scale.... UGH!! Good location on 6th Ave, corner lot so parking is a little more available. Entering the place it was decorated in a very "chic"' way I must say, comparable to the famous VooDoo doughtnuts and it's abstract decor, Legendary was quite the fashionista!!! Ample help to get your order done, picking from 3 different types of doughnuts, the amateur, the famous and the legendary.... with that being said, you just have to stop on throught and check out the place!!! Just do it:)

A valiant attempt to copy Portland's Voodoo Donut that misses the mark. Their donuts are big but not nearly as creative or delicious. Definitely better than picking up Safeway donuts, but bite for bite you'll be better off a Krispy Kreme. If you want the cool factor though, and don't feel like driving 2.5 hours south to Portland, then this place will do just fine!

Oh my gosh they are soooo good. The staff is so friendly. My daughter loves that they have doggie donuts. She always gets one for her dog. I think they are way better then voodoo donuts.

I had heard about the Legendary Doughnuts in Lake Tapps, but never made it out there to try it out. We were in Tacoma so we swung by 6th Avenue and stopped in. It was so packed at like 10:00am Saturday morning. Almost half an hour later, we make our way to the front and the selections were different. I mean, you have bacon sprinkled on a maple bar, pumpkin cake doughnut, a chocolate cake doughnut with peanut butter in the middle, Snickers bar... The list goes on. Depending on which category your doughnut falls under, the price varies. "Legendary" doughnuts are these more unique doughnuts, "famous" are the average doughnuts, and "amateur" is your basic doughnut... I think legendary doughnuts were around $2. So, I tried the Oprah... Maple bar with bacon sprinkled on it... I took a bite of the Charlie Brown... Which was the choco cake doughnut with peanut butter and a piece of Reese's... The Snickers covered choco bar... Yeah, I tried quite a bit! Anyway, I'm all about the dough of a doughnut. Sure, the nifty concoctions are pretty rad... But if you're looking for a doughnut that actually tastes better than a Safeway doughnut, this isn't the place. But, if you're looking for a doughnut strictly based on novelty, and not taste... then this place is for you. By the way, I'm no coffee snob... In fact, I recently started drinking it... My bf and I each ordered a brewed coffee and it was so hot that he practically burnt his hand... But it tasted so sour and gross. I don't recommend it at all.

These are the most delightful doughnuts I've ever had the privilege of eating. We've been coming here for the past two years, after discovering them via Groupon, and they have never let me down (aside from occasionally being out of Bavarian creme pillows). I have never liked cake doughnuts, but that's all I ever want to order now - theirs are perfection. I've been to Voodoo in Portland and while they have the "original" crazy doughnut toppings and fun gimmick down, their doughnuts are kind of mass produced and the taste reflects that. In my experience, Legendary has always been fresh and well cooked. Favorites include ANY chocolate cake doughnut, the doughsant, and apple fritters. And FYI: if you accidentally buy too many, they freeze well and are still tasty after thawing!

I've given Legendary Doughnuts two chances, and both times was left severely disappointed. On my first visit, a Saturday morning in early April, I had a Bourbon Street Doughnut, and the predominate flavor of it was staleness; I gave them a second shot this afternoon (a Monday), tried a chocolate cake doughnut topped with a peanut butter creme, and a cannoli. Once again, the overwhelming taste sensation was staleness. On both occasions, the store wasn't particularly busy, which could have been a factor, but for the prices they are charging, they should not be serving sub-par, stale doughnuts. I will not return to this store--given a choice, I'd rather have a fresh doughnut from Pao's Donut and coffee shop: not nearly as fancy, not nearly as pricy, and far, far tastier.

I know when I walk in the door I'm not seeking organic, free range or fructose free ingredients. I'm after a good old fashioned doughnut. But these are NOT old fashioned by any means... these are good doughnuts gone HUGE. Too huge? You decide. I prefer a smaller doughnut. The important, delicate balance of glaze, sugar, and soft dough are lost when doughnuts are supersized - and everything here is on the grander scale. Even if you cut it in half, or fourths, something just isn't the same. If you're going for most calories per doughnut, however, you've found your spot. Funny names for doughnuts can be found here as well. Stay on the lookout for a groupon deal.

I'm really not a donut person and especially since I'm trying to diet, but my husband never met one he didn't like so stopped in to see what all the fuss is about. I must say that I've never seen donuts this large. The bars must have been the size of three normal bars that you get at Krispy Kreme. They all have really fun names and crazy ingredients and the folks at the counter were very patient while I tried to make up my mind. I ended up getting an apple fritter that actually had big chunks of apples and was so huge it took two days to finish it. Would I go there again, probably if I wanted donuts for something special. They also have donut cakes which might be great for a birthday party.

Very similar to Voo-Doo donuts in Portland, but less weird, so I like it. Tasty and creative donuts. More like desserts actually. My favorite is the fruity pebble one, with vanilla icing and cereal on top. The smote donut, with chocolate, graham crackers, and marshmallows is yummy too. I think this is a fun place to take friends from out of town when they are visiting. A creative twist on your normal cafe. And a special thanks to the owner who went out of his way to come talk to us when we sat down and thanked my boyfriend for serving in the air force. He also gave us our donuts for free. Not expecting it, but was a nice surprise.

I discovered Legendary last year after a coworker brought a box of their doughnuts to the office, and I've been there countless times since, much to the detriment of my waistline. I've tried most of their doughnuts by now, and they have quite a spectrum of flavors and types. All are delicious, from plain glazed ones to massive frosted confections the size of your head. Amusingly, if you order a dozen doughnuts, a knife is included in the box so you can cut the really big ones in half (or, if you're my coworkers, into eighths). I appreciate the effort that Legendary puts into making all their creative, fancy doughnuts, but I especially appreciate that they don't overlook the basic ones. Their glazed old fashioned ones are my favorites!

So we ventured into the ghetto for these legendary doughnuts, but sadly the are closed. Officer "Whatz Up" curtly informed us that they are investigating a homicide. Ironically they had to close the doughnut shop to do so? Is it because all the police are on the block and the want to hog the doughnuts? Who knows. He was rude. Nothing to do with the business...my hangover wanted sugary dough. Boo.

Legen....wait for it...dary. Truly a great addition to 6th street, & to the donut market in Tacoma. Want an after work donut? No problem, these guys are open until 6. Want a donut bigger and more outrageous? Anytime. Why only 4 stars, not 5? Price. Look, I've got no problem paying more for quality & LD has demonstrated serious quality. But I still wince a little when I realize I'm paying .99 for a single glazed donut.

I went to Legendary Doughnuts today to use my recent Groupon. The customer in front of me was getting 2 Legendary Dozen's. By the time it was my turn she had cleaned the place out. I asked the server if they were going to bring more out and he said, "No, there's plenty out here, and we were busy this morning" I asked for a Legendary Dozen and asked about the pricing and he was less than helpful. I started choosing doughnuts and asked how many I had in there and he gave me a monetary figure "$19.00 worth" I reiterated that I wanted a DOZEN. He was not friendly at all. I was so over being there that I picked on last one and said I'm done. I ended up with 10 doughnuts for the same price I could have gotten a full dozen. Tried emailing the GM, it came back to me address does not exist. The doughnuts were amazing and my staff really enjoyed them, that's where the 3 stars come from. The service was TERRIBLE.

Legendary Doughnuts has taken time to creative a trendy shop while still maintaining creativity and low prices. It's perfect for an early morning doughnut or a sweet place to grab an afternoon coffee. It's clean, well-decorated and the doughnuts are amazing. Grab a Their style is somewhere between Voodoo Doughnuts in Portland and your traditional local doughnut shop. Top Recommendation: Doughnut Cinnamon Roll. You won't regret it.

It has been just barely over a week since I moved to Tacoma from Colorado. I was exhausted from the long drive and running on a Red Bull high. I had enough energy to go out and see the sites around my new adopted hometown. Most of the time I just felt overwhelmed. Without Red Bull and GPS I probably would have gotten lost numerous times before I got to my new home. I called Steve from Yakima. Steve already told me about Legendary Doughnuts a few times before and said that they had a large bacon maple doughnut. It sounded delicious and I told him that I wanted to go there as one of our first stops when we got there. Indeed we did! But before that Buddy(our Pug or more accurately STEVE'S Pug) knocked my eyeglasses somewhere in the back of my overfilled car. Yet another delay. Once those glasses were found those doughnuts sounded better than ever! We did indeed go to Legendary Doughnuts the day I arrived and got that bacon maple doughnut called the Oprah I believe. The doughnut was a monster and I had to save some of it for the next day but indeed it was delicious! Since then I have been to Legendary Doughnuts two more times and have gotten a great sugar powdered doughnut from them called Casper. I also have gotten a Buttermilk Bar which tastes great but is quite rich! I also got a blueberry doughnut which I also adored. Really I haven't had a bad doughnut from Legendary Doughnuts. I am looking forward to many happy returns to this place!

Kind of like Voodoo...fun names, weird quirky doughnuts. But honestly, they vary in taste. Some are good, others not so much. I've had better from the smaller Mom/Pop shops. I like that they offer cakes and other novelty items...I'm sure these taste a million times better when you're drunk.

Honestly, I was underwhelmed by Legendary Doughnuts. First, though the space they have was very cool, the area was filthy. There were crumbs on every table and all over the floor, it was kind of dusty and it just seemed that they hadn't cleaned the place at all that day. As someone who works in food service, isn't it common sense to walk to the front room to periodically wipe down the tables and sweep the floor? The doughnut I had (the Captain Jack, I think that was the name) wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. The dough wasn't dry, but it definitely wasn't moist and fresh. My friend had the peanut butter and chocolate one which was better only because of the variety of flavor. The doughnut itself still left something to be desired. All in all, I'm glad I tried it if only to know that I don't need to go back.

Several friends had mentioned this place - one friend that lives a few blocks away (and told me, with a Homer Simpson like drool that they had the best douuuuugh-nuuuuuuts) and a fellow Yelper, in particular. So I mentioned to my spouse that we should try them and was met with, "Funny you should mention it, there's a deal-a-day site deal." So bought the deal we did. We decided to pick up on a weekend day when we expected to have folks around to help us eat the doughnuts in question - we knew there would be a lot of them. Here comes the dock-one-star part of the experience: the guy behind the counter was clearly nasty about us picking up that many doughnuts at night and acted like I was going to go home and stuff them in my face with a tub of ice cream or something. Kid, you work in a doughnut shop. People are going to buy doughnuts. If you don't like that, you might reach out to a produce stand for a job or something. Selection, even in the evening was pretty amazing and I had a lot of trouble deciding what to pick up. I wound up kind of opting for one-of-everything, figuring we'd get something for everyone. The Bavarian creme is nothing to write home about but it does avoid one major pitfall that gets most places - it's not too sweet. The ones I did try a bite of were pretty categorically not too sweet, but I'm given to understand that a few in the box were tooth-achingly sweet. The plain dough that I pulled off of my Bavarian creme was more like a Texas doughnut than I've had anywhere else - there's a chewy, substantial quality and a backing flavor not unlike an incredibly light sourdough. It keeps the "cake for breakfast" feel to a minimum. Be warned, these doughnuts are huge! One is more than enough for anyone, honestly (though I'm not judging if you have more but I'm guessing you won't be hungry for a while.) Witnessed in the cooler (but didn't try) soy milk and a number of dairy and drink choices. Canine treats for sale at the register, along with the biggest marshmallows I've seen coated in chocolate and sold as "pops."

While the doughnuts were pretty standard, some odd combinations, though a little too big, Nothing I'd go out of my way for! The customer service made us not want to go back! We bought a Groupon to try this place & even though I read the discussion panel before buying & all the fine print, both of which stated we were getting to mix & match a dozen doughnuts of our choice, The girl behind the counter argued & told us we had to get specific doughnuts! WTH you don't get customers to come back by arguing with them & telling them what they have to buy!! We will continue to go to Pao's where they know & respect their customers!!

A few yelper friends of mne rave about this place, so while we were out and about last weekend, we swung by for some tasty treats. Boy was I not disappointed! We got the combo dozen, 4 classic, 4 awesome and 4 super awesome (they are called something else). All of the doughnuts were made to perfection, and they had some really crafty combo's as well, beer and pretzel anyone? My fave's, the blueberry pie, the spin on red velvet cake, and the maple bacon bar. YUMM This will deff be our first stop when we are looking for some SUGAR!!!!

We arrived about an hour before closing so I wasn't expecting a ton of variety. My daughter had the chocolate cake donut with chocolate frosting. It was okay, the best out of the bunch. Husband had the Scarlett O'Hara red velvet donut. Dry and not very tasty. Not worth the money we paid for it. I had the Sex in the City donut. Which was disgusting. I took one bit and threw it away. DRY DRY DRY. Seriously the most disgusting donut I've ever had. Great customer service but donuts were not good!

My wife and I have been here a couple of times, and the Salted Caramel doughsants are amazing. We also tried the fluff-a-nutter and the Oprah doughnuts and they were very good. There was an issue when I asked for an Arnold Palmer drink that was on their menu and was told "they weren't doing lemonade drinks at the moment; maybe when the weather was warmer", well then take the item off your menu.

The location of LD Is pretty cool. Love that part of town. The open fronted dining area was really indicting, as was the modern decor. Oh, the donuts? They were tasty! I love donuts that are made from scratch with care. The store didn't have that awful old grease smell. I would consider going again for a special trip with an out of town guest. The not so great was the person at the counter. While she was generally patient while I decided, it bugged me that she came out from the back and didn't wash her hands or put on gloves to get the donuts. Thankfully she used a little piece of wax paper to put them in a bag... BUT.... she could not stop touching her hair and wiping her mouth. Kinda gross. I thought you had to be trained in hygiene to serve food? That really detracted from the whole scene there. Okay, and she could have been more friendly overall. Why would you hire someone for customer service that seems to either be introverted or not that into the customers. As I wrote, I'd go again for the donuts, but wouldn't make it a regular thing. Customer service makes or breaks a place. We go where we feel good about being associated with the place. Sounds like the staff is hit and miss, so I'd say if you like good donuts it'd be worth a stop in there.

Legendary is good to great. 3.5 stars but gave it 4 here based on creativity and its a nice little spot to hit. The donuts recipe is nothing crazy, but everything else that goes into them is and that's what makes this place awesome. Gummi worms, oreo's, BACON!! Lot's to choose from and a nice little spot downtown.

Super tasty! Quite large but totally worth it! I love doughnuts and these ranked pretty high for me! The icing isn't too sweet and the texture is soft and fluffy! AMAZING!!!

If you don't see what you want, ask! They are usually really great about mixing up what you want. My favorite is Sex and the City: chocolate and caramel

They are a few doors down from our business...We gained a little weight since they opened. I recommend the fritter - super crispy. Dan likes the Blueberry creme doughnut. They also have a full service espresso bar. The ONLY negative. No Gluten free options. I'm gluten intolerant and can't enjoy a whole doughnut. Other than my own personal quirk - They're Legendary!

HOLY CANNOLI!!! They sell cannoli's and although they are not as good as some they are excellent considering you can't usually find them on the west coast. The Oprah "maple bacon bar" is phenomenal! I could starve myself just to eat one of the doughnuts here. Yummy yummy. Little pricey.

Nothing better than fresh made doughnuts! Pretty good variety of different types. I will keep trying new flavors whenever I go back. It can keep busy but what do you expect? Just get it to go and you are golden.

Yum!! This place is so unique! Quality doughnuts! Idea of voodoo but I like this place even better, their doughnuts are usually fresh, and they have a great variety :)

Wow - that is all I can say. I stopped by this weekend to let my son get a couple of doughnuts. Even though I was on the post-holiday "program," I decided one little double chocolate doughnut wouldn't hurt. It did. My son made the mistake of not finishing one of his doughnuts and leaving it in the pantry. Gone! I had no self control. My theory though is if you are going to eat something deliciously bad for you, it better be worth it. It was. I have not had a really good doughnut for many, many years. I had avoided the doughnut revolution in Portland. Starbucks doughnuts are stale and awful. Legendary is legendary. BTW - my latte was also good. I had a double chocolate. My son had the Fat Albert (that is the one I helped him with) and a maple bar. All were delicious. Service is a little slow. Probably still getting their mojo together.

I have been here three times in the past 4 months. Each time I was impressed with the selection even more. Maybe that was because each time I was there earlier in the day that I was the time before. Two trips were due to the " Legendary Doughnuts Mix n Match Groupon" and one was to haul doughnuts to Portland to compare with some our cousins/friends were supplying from down there! Needless to say we will no longer be bringing donuts from a certain similar type of establishment down there to Tacoma - in fact our friends in Portland are now requesting that we bring them Legendary Doughnuts. So my advice to them (if they read these) would be to post somewhere - either onsite or in the fine print on the groupon - exactly what makes up the groupon assortment you will avoid alot of grief. We went through it the first time (and I've observed it numerous times now) where we picked out a dozen donuts went to pay, presented our groupon and were told "Oh, you have to trade some of your legendary's for famous and amateurs, if you want to use a groupon.." Well, um.. don't you think you should explain that somewhere becaue it wasn't in my groupon fine print nor did I see it posted anywhere on the premises as to what "status levels" you have to pick from to make up a mix n match donut selection. I, along with many others would appreciate this and it would avoid alot of hassle and bad first impressions. My second piece of advice to them is either move the "big donut creations" from the side counter to a higher shelf/display area or replace them more frequently. Up close they are rather unappetizing looking/smelling after a day or so when they are right at eye level while waiting in line. As to the doughnut itself, I love the fact that each time I have been there someone has expressed a wish for a particular type of doughnut on the menu which was not in the case and there was a guy behind the counter who apologized and offered to make one up quickly. Apparently they don't have enough room in the display case to keep everything stocked at the same time. The "Special of the Day/Week/Season" is always a hit and we haven't been disappointed with a doughnut yet. The "Oprah" in its various forms (the big bar and the mini version) are great because the bacon crumbles ensure that you get a bite of bacon in every bite! My favorite so far was the Albert Einstein. For those who don't like donuts they even have other pastries and turnovers available. The tables were neat and yes there were some crumbs on a table here and there but I chalk that up to inconsiderate patrons. I was taught that if you have to find your own seat and throw your own garbage away you should at least wipe your own crumbs up with a paper towel or napkin so it's somewhat clean for the next person. They get very busy here, so would you rather get through the line faster and be responsible for cleaning up after yourself or wait longer so someone can clean up after your messiness? I'd rather get through line faster so I can start enjoying their doughnutty goodness sooner!

I was out with my daughter and she mentioned donuts . she told me that there was a newer place in Tacoma ,so after a little looking I found it she got the peppermint hot coco and I just got a big chocolate bar . the Doughnuts were good and they had alot of funny names for some of them . the people were fast and friendly . the price was in comparison to other donut shop I have been to. we did not get anything to drink since we were on the way to do other things too . I will be going back here and try other items they have not much activity on the street then again it was morning and before noon

Took the family here as a surprise and to carb load for a 5K that night. All the donuts were really good! Apple Fritter for the boy (crisp in a great way), Peach Cobbler for the girl (liked the crunch) an Oprah for the Bro In Law (bacon on a donut? Amazing) and I had a Chocolate Peanut Butter (good donut and just the right frosting & such) we also had coffees and hot chocolates (with whip cream) Really liked how fluffy the donuts are. Little pricey but these aren't little bitty donuts. Neither child (8&9) could finish their donuts. Lucky for Dad ;)

This place will make any donut for you fresh on the spot if they have run out. This should be a summation of the type of place this is. Great food, atmosphere, and above all service.

I walked into this place with a groupon on Friday afternoon only to be met with a long line and a we are pretty much out of doughnuts??? Now you would think that would get WAY less then 4 stars right?? Well stick with me folks the one and only doughnuts I did end up with before leaving slightly disappoint (My 3 year old was the real one freaking out) was pretty AMAZING!!! I took one bite after having driven about 5 miles down 6th ave and my husband and I both agreed we needed to turn around and go get a couple more. Luckily we ended up with four more after driving back all of which were yummy. Now Ive read a lot of people on here saying ooh it's no VooDoo but if I don't have to drive 2 hr it will do. PishPosh on that none since I've had VooDoo more then once more then twice even BUT while there flavors are different some of VooDoo's doughnuts are just way to off the wall for my liking I LOVE the novelty of them don't get me wrong "who didn't like tang growing up" but I'm not so sure I love it on my doughnuts. There seems to be a Designer/Novelty doughnut craz sweeping the nation and while my family doesn't eat doughnuts very often we sure are going to keep enjoying Legendary I'm hoping the next time we stop in I can use the groupon and see there full Menu of doughnuts because because the small taste I had made me want to buy a few more of there groupons!!! Go in get a doughsant you wont be disappointed!!!

First off, glad to see that this space is finally occupied. Second, as a lover of all things doughnuts, I am glad to see it occupied with a good doughnut place. Legendary has all of the "regular" doughnuts, along with the trendy unique doughnuts that have been inspired by Portland's Voodoo Doughnuts. I tried the French Toast Doughnut, and thought it was outstanding. The joint could improve in that doughnuts are pricier than the other local doughnut mainstay up the street, and the latte I had wasn't terribly good. Additionally, as it's a place to sit and wake up over sugar, dough, and caffeine, it wouldn't hurt to have wifi for guests to use.

Legendary has a good selection, from ordinary to adventurous, all delicious. While often compared to Voodoo, I prefer Legendary's clean and open seating area, as well as the display allowing you to see the options with their complete descriptions before making your selection. A must-visit when exploring Sixth Ave!

It's true. The doughnuts here are not as cheap as Crispy Cream, or half a dozen other places in town. The reason you go here is because of the delicious and novelty doughnuts you just can find anywhere else. It might take you a few tries before you find the doughnut that makes you happy everywhere inside, but once you find it - you'll be coming back. The lemon coconut doughnut is so wonderfully rich I recommend you take it home and nibble on it all day - or share it with a loved one. Hint, hint. But if you need instant gratification I recommend the Bavarian Cream. The cream is wonderfully light and fluffy...so fluffy. Nom, nom, nom, it's gone.

They have a beautiful array of baked goods. I got two doughnuts and both were awesome. The inside is comfortable and the prices are pretty competitive. Really glad to have them in the neighbor.

Nicest staff ever, not to mention absolutely delicious, one of a kind doughnuts at a perfect price point! The atmosphere is modern but inviting, and always welcoming!

This place is a wannabe Voodoo, but fails. I had a cinnamon roll donut and bf had some ham and cheese pastry. It's over-priced with not so good donuts. ALL the tables were dirty and no one working was going to bother to clean them. We ordered coffee and the coffee was weak and too acidic. I'm sticking to Paos.

Upscale and creative donuts. Why someone wanted to upscale a donut is beyond me, but here they are. Prices are upscaled, too - Fred Meyer and Safeway also put gummy worms on their donuts, at a fraction of the price.

Yummy donuts! I love the atmosphere here! Its so welcoming and cheery. The workers are all very nice and patient. It took me forever to choose my dozen because I wanted to everything! My favorite has to be yogi bear.

While I agree with some statements about being more novelty than taste, but I freakn LOVE these doughnuts! They are so fun and yummy and so glad they moved to Tacoma!! Each location has a tendency to be crowded, almost all the time...so be prepared to not be in a hurry. I am a doughnut freak, my favorite food ever, and I really enjoy this place and the doughnuts! I even orded a custom cake for a friends birthday and it was a hit, THE BEST THING EVER. Its not what youd expect, I highly recommend trying it!

In my humble opinion Legendary Donuts is all hype and location. We tried a few of the mini donuts to get an idea of their selection without having to buy the full size ones. They seemed a tad bit stale and ordinary. If you want a good, make that GREAT donut go to Dockside Donuts instead! The donuts at Dockside are incredibly fresh and light in texture. DEELISH!

This place is a donut lovers dreams! With the quirky donut names, they have something for everyone. We just tried it today for the first time, and even at noon (which is the time we arrived) there was a long line, but the nice thing is we didnt have to wait long at all. The employees were all so nice, very helpful and quick. The Oprah is donut heaven with its maple glazed topped with bacon crumbs, as well as the blueberry cake donut...moist, sweet, and yummy! Love this place!

Legendary Doughnuts is a great place - The doughnuts were delicious, and they have a marvelous selection. What's wonderful is the creativity in the doughnuts' design! They're beautiful to look at, and they have some really cool flavors & combinations. Another bonus was the staff - The workers were friendly & provided good service! I'll definitely be going back again. I would certainly recommend this place to anyone who likes doughnuts and sweet treats! I'm glad this place opened!

CUSTOMER SERVICE- I had a horrible experince here! I came in with a group of friends, we were all first time customers. It was almost time for them to close and we were the only people in the whole shop. We talked with the young man at the cashier about the different treats and the shop, he was very helpful and friendly. We finally picked out what we were going to get and as we were PAYING, a man (who turned out to be THE MANAGER!!) came out from the back and said firmly, "HEY, you guys need to let him work!" I was so shocked I couldn't even speak! One of my friends spoke up and said "Hey, man, we are paying customers and he is helping us..what is the problem?" He mumbled something and WAIVED US OFF! We took our doughnuts to go and left-extremely upset! That was the worst customer service experience I have EVER had...first time visit and PAYING customers getting told off by the manager!? I felt so bad for the cashier, he was clearly embaressed by his manager's inappropriate behavior. I would never want to work for someone like that either! Needless to say none of us will ever be going back there again. THE DOUGHNUTS- mmm nothing sepcial..unique combinations but I'd take a Krispy Kreme over that any day. CLEANLINESS-the floor was gross and the rug in the entryway looked like it literally had never been cleaned. I wouldn't recommened it or waste money there again...which is too bad because I am a huge advocate for supporting small businesses.

We recently went to Legendary Doughnuts in Tacoma after seeing the segment on Evening Magazine. I have never been a big fan of Dunkin Donuts. Top Pot are good but they won't make any donuts with chopped nuts, which are my favorite. I was told that they don't use nuts because of people with allergies. Hmph! So, when we saw Legendary on tv, we had to try them. I had read the Yelp reviews prior to going so I was expecting exactly what I saw. I am all about first impressions and my first impression was the reason my review is 3 star and not 4. The shop was a mess. I get that these are donuts and donuts can be messy. However, it is not difficult to wipe down tables, sweep the floor, and push in empty chairs so the place looks neat and clean. If the front is a mess, you have to wonder what the kitchen looks like. Right? So, this aside, we were impressed with the selection of donuts. We specifically went to try the maple bacon bar AKA "The Oprah." The donuts are so large that we only bought two so we could share. The maple bacon bar was exceptional. We also had the Snickers, which was good but I think, personally a bit of a let down after the maple bacon bar. The staff was very friendly. The gentleman I spoke to said that he would be happy to make me a donut with chocolate frosting and chopped peanuts. I will definitely take him up on that next time I am in. Score one bonus point for them for not letting people with allergies ruin it for the rest of us. As I said, we will go back as the donuts were definitely worth having again. I just hope with this review as well as the others that have commented on the cleanliness, or lack thereof, they will do a better job keeping the place tidy. Oh, and those display "creations"...they are not appetizing at all. You may want to get rid of those or find a better way to preserve them so they look appealing. All in all, it's a good donut shop with some creative and tasty selections. If on our next visit, the place is clean, I will up my review and give it a fourth star.

Not my favorite. Le donut on hilltop is far better. The filling in the lemon tart tasted like what you would think a lemon air freshener taste like. The bacon maple was very disappointing. Le donut give you a big piece of thick cut bacon on top, not just Bacon bits. But the pumpkin donut was good. Sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings on my review, but try le donut and you will understand.

Wow, cannot believe I paid $20 for a dozen stale and dry doughnuts. Will not be making that mistake again! I thought since it was a weekend morning that they'd have some hot and fresh dough, but unfortunately that is not the case. Service was ok, glad I got there before the line started out the door. Won't be back because Safeway's are 100x better.

This morning was our third trip to Legendary and thought it was time to finally weigh in, literally, on a great new addition to 6th Ave and Tacoma. Growing up in Steilacoom, House of Doughnuts in Lakewood has always been my spot, and still is for the "basic" donut. But as others have mentioned, Legendary takes it to a whole notha level with their flavors and combinations. Everyone seems to love the Oprah, basic maple bar with bacon, but for my wife and myself, the Sex in the City and the Captain Jack Sparrow are by far the shining stars. The donuts do tend to be on the sweet side and the Homer Simpson and Apple Fritter are ginormous! The hours are great and the staff has been friendly. We tend to grab and go, so I can't really comment on the decor or atmosphere. But at least it is on the corner and parking is pretty easy to find. We wish them luck and always look to support a local business.
