Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

Very cheap. In a strip mall in the middle of nowhere, next to a sketchy bar. If you see the Seattle Golf Club, you areinthe neighborhood. There are about 12 tables inside, so you may have to wait. Went on a Sunday night and it was fairly busy, although there was a group of about 20 people taking up a lot of space. The dumplings were good, nothing to write home about. We are onion pancake connoisseurs so we tried theirs and yes, its the best we've had lately. Its pretty far from downtown, so its not an obvious stop. If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd probably eat here twice amonth for the convenience, rather than craving it. Does that give you an idea? Good-not great, not worth all the raves.

No stars would be more appropriate. When your sign reads "Open" and your business hours are posted to close at 3pm, I expect you will serve food until 3pm. Unfortunately, that was not the case today. Got there at 2:30pm and was refused service because they were closing at 3pm. I was too shocked to respond. I've been here before and thought the dumplings were exceptional, but this experience has left a bad taste in my mouth. Advice to management: revise your hours to reflect your real operating hours.

Yep! 5 star ratings are for the best places. The name alone would have had me going elsewhere. A colleague of mine had raved about it during work so we went. As soon as I got a menu my eyes lit up. They have pictures and one of the pictures are of what they call Steamed Pork Buns. I assumed that they were ShoShoBau. The guy working heard me talk about shoshobau and he told me it was not that, but just fried pork inside. At first a bummer. (Shoshobau is BBQ pork in a steamed bun! Yum!!) Between the 3 of us we ordered family style. 1 dumplings, 1 Won ton soup, 1 Fried potstickers, 1 Chowmein, and 1 Pork buns. We were so stuffed. The dumplings were perfect, the won tons were perfect, the pork buns were good but I still prefer the BBQ ones. Everything was great. We all ate and ate and ate until we all went back to our hotel rooms and passed out! All this food for $12 a person! What a deal! Definitely gonna hit this spot next time I work in Seattle! They close early so go early. close at 8 or 8:30 I think

If you're looking for inexpensive Chinese food in North Seattle this should be the only place you go. Even if you're not in North Seattle, still go! They make all their dumplings in house. It's fresh and delicious. Their meats aren't overcooked and as stated in other reviews... GARLIC SAUCE! Mmm! You can also order a bag of 50 freshly made dumplings for your next party (with a day notice). You have to cook them at home, but it's only a pot of boiling water away from a bunch of happy party goers.

It's far away from a lot of things you might combine to create an evening's entertainment, but it's worth going a bit out of the way. The dumplings and pancakes are absolutely incredible. There's nothing like them in all the other starch served in Seattle. The rest of the menu is limited essentially to things that complement the dumplings and pancakes, really, but that's perfectly OK. Worth many repeat visits.

Went here with about 9 other friends and took about a third of the seating. It's small inside but It's so good. My wife and have driven by this place always saying we were going to try it out one day. Well finally a friend of ours told us that they went there and enjoyed it. I preferred the pan fried dumplings and the Chicken Chow Mein over the BBQ Pork Chow Mein (chicken was less greasy). They hand make your dumpling to order, and it didn't take as long as i thought it would. We ordered 48 dumplings for our table and I didn't notice waiting any longer than for any other food we ordered. It was on Sunday and when our order got back there it looked like it was all hands on deck to make the dumplings. The total bill was around 95 bucks for 10 people. And we were stuffed. I know I give a lot of 5 stars out. But that is only because I usually order the best things and usually only go if I heard it from someone else first. If the place sucked, I would leave a sucky review. But that's just me.

A complimentary little bowl of pickled vegetables started off our meal. The boiled dumplings that most everyone orders are fresh & delicious, especially if you dump the amazing dark brown garlic sauce over them to spice them up a little more. (Bring gum for afterwards, lots of gum.) I was pleasantly surprised at how good all the other things they serve were as well: Don't overlook the very fresh-tasting fried rice with succulent shrimp. The chow mein noodles were good as well, and so was the tofu with vegetable dish. Add a little fresh chili sauce that's at every table if you like things hot. There's nothing fancy or mind-blowing about the food, just excellent basics: quantity, price, delicious & freshly-prepared food. This is a great spot to get your Chinese fix, especially if you're north of the International District.
(5)D.J. Y.
VEGGIE HEADS, STAY AWAY.... They really do not have much of a selection for vegans so you'd pretty much need not apply.... Oh yeah! Amazing to find such outstanding quality dumplings outside of the International district in downtown Seattle. Service is prompt and the last time we visited the owner was serving the customers. Menu has a great choice of items and each item we've tried so far has been flavorful and out of this world. If you don't know what to order, ask the waiter they'll be able to lend a hand to mix and match a nice selection. Parking is a bit hard to find, as this is squeezed between a home brew store and tavern, but it's worth trying, you'll be happy you did!
(5)Nina W.
I find their boiled pork dumplings juicy, tender, perfectly prepared, and to die for! I dream of dumplings laden with strong, pungent garlic sauce! The owner must read these reviews- Their Hot and Sour soup has gotten spicier, and I LOVE it! I am hooked on Fu Man and if I could I would eat here weekly. I limit myself because I'd probably gain about a millon and a half pounds from all the delicious dumplings i'd eat!!!
(5)Matt W.
If you have a dumpling itch that needs scratching, and a damn near empty wallet, go here. I was looking forward to the green onion pancake, but it was nothing like I had in China or in the really good Chinese restaurants. Don't even think it should be called the same thing. However, on sheer quantity for price, you can't beat Fu Man.
(3)Mailani W.
If I'm too lazy to head down to Chinatown, I call in for take out. The place is tiny, so if you go around the lunch/dinner hour expect a wait. The owner who holds the fort down is always out in front, and he's cool, just don't take him personally. He's like that uncle who will bust your chops. He'll make someone at your table eat the last dumpling (no joke), school you about not pouring the shoyu on your noodles, and tell you when you're ordering too much food. He means well, really. Just not the most eloquent. My staples are the steamed dumplings. I'd say stick with the steamed. Pan-fried is basically deep fried with more grease soaked in, makes the skin taste doughy and rubbery. The green onion pancake is a nice lil side dish. The egg and spinach soup, or lil bit of everything noodle soup hits the spot when you're not thriving. The chow mein is good, they make their own noodles in house. Yes, its on the salty side, kinda greasy but real good n well seasoned. The garlic sauce that come with the dumplings are sasha fierce. They just grate raw garlic which makes it so friggn SCROONG! Oh, and he likes to close up shop promptly and go home like everybody else. Don't be a douche and show up 15 min before closing expecting to order, be considerate.

3 star for dumpling with garlic sauce, but only 2 star for the rest of the food. We started to come to eat here first a few years ago. We goes there when we are in the neighborhood. We just went back last Sat. Dumplings were still delicious and the garlic sauce was so good. Don't try the wonton noodle soup. Not appetizing at all and the wontons were huge. Each wonton was like the size of two dumplings made into one. The wonton skin was falling apart. The pan fried pork buns (forgot the exact name, but they are huge and comes in two) are too greasy and not tasted good. We ordered it before and it was the same. So we did give it a try, not a one time failure. Steamed pork bun is much tasty at other restaurant. They have 2 native speaking waiter and waitress. They are both very polite and attentive. But we decide not to go back as the food wasn't good enough.

As close to 5 star as i could possibly give it w/o the five stars due to my 3 five star rule. The rule that I would only allow 3 chinese restaurant 5 stars, that way it's keeps the standard high. With that said possibly the best dumpling in the city, but beaware of the linger effect of the soy sauces with garlic (lots). Service = decent Ambiance = not much here, Food = Your gonna want to eat it here, when the juices are still hot. yum yum! Crowd = Mostly chinese that seem like they come a long ways Price = $$ Favorite = Top Dumplings Worst = location! Final Say = Top dumpling award!
(4)Henry L.
The dumplings were great! Two times bigger than the normal sized, frozen-market bag variety at Asian Marts. The skin of the dumplings were on the spot, and fresh, and fully cooked. All were intact, with all the juices still inside. We had the pan-fried variety as well, and there were good as well. $20 for a frozen bag of 50 dumplings is a good deal as well, but you must order 1 day in advanced so they can make em fresh. This place could have offered other "more advanced" dumplings, such as Sui Long Bao. But other than that, everything was fine.
(4)Bryan T.
Awesome food. Get the pork steamed buns, onion pancake, and the dumplings... you'll be set. Pancake was a bit salty, but good. Buns were tasty and fresh -- nice and juicy when you bit into them. Dumplings are as good as you'd make them at home -- this is definitely a place to try... I'm coming back for sure.
(5)Ele M.
I hate to do it. I really do. I wanted to love this place. I wanted to be able to say, "Wow, you have GOT to try Fu Man! That place is awwwwesome." But I can't. The dumplings were completely eh. So eh, in fact, that my dining partner thought they were from the HT Market's deli. The green onion pancake was...well, it was crispy. No flavor, though. The roast chicken's sauce was tasty, but not on the chicken (I put in on the pancake). The chicken was stringy and a bit tough. And the special chow mein wasn't. All in all, I have to say that Yu Shan down on Lake City Way is almost but not quite infinitely superior.
(2)Linsi M.
This place has an amazing authentic menu of Chinese food. My sister and I refer to it as "Sunday noodles" that we get from chinatown in NYC. Number one pick off the menu (in addition to dumplings) is the Roasted Chicken. It's a small place, but take out is just as delicious as sitting and eating it right there. Gets crowded fast and to-go orders can back up (can take up to 40 min). Call ahead to order to-go. Seating is really limited too, so either go early or take out. It's definitely worth the wait though.

I was a little skeptical about this place when I walked in...I mean the staff speaks English AND they take credit cards?!?! Being from LA, that just set off red flags of an unauthentic Chinese restaurant. Then I looked around some more and felt more at ease. I mean they have terrible decor, old carpet, and sauces sitting in open bowls on the table. Much better ;-) I ordered the Hot and Sour Soup, which was sooooo good. It wasn't too thick and had a lot of ingredients in the soup...a lot of white pepper - yum! I would say this is one of the best hot and sour soups I've ever had. They also start you off with a complementary plate of cold vegetables. The entire plate was seasoned perfectly - the cucumber tasted exactly like the one my mom makes at home, the lotus root was crunchy, and the cabbage one was also perfect. Everything was tangy, sweet, and not too salty. Then came the main course, their signature boiled dumplings. I usually judge a dumpling by the amount of juice that oozes out when you bit into it. Theirs only had a little, so I was disappointed about that. However, the dumpling skin is made by hand in the kitchen and is the perfect thickness (aka. not too thick). The pork didn't taste too greasy and it was the perfect mix of pork and vegetables in each dumpling. Being a dumpling house, I was disappointed that they only have 1 type of dumpling! They claim their kitchen is too small to accommodate various flavors, and they hope to be able to expand in the near future. Overall, these dumplings hit the spot. If this restaurant were in LA, I would not give it 5 stars...but hey, it's Seattle - this is probably the best you're going to get in the area.

You done right Fu Man. You just made a Chinaman very happy - bringing back the dear old memories of going down a smelly alley in Taipei, planting my ass on a plastic kiddie bench, and gorging on dumplings till I could fill my belly no more. For the Seattle metro area, these dumplings here are probably going to be the closest thing you're going to get to the authentic ones described above. Besides the dumplings, the soups are highly recommended - the real deal (i.e. not the kind you'd find at some Americanized Chinese food establishment like Panda House). We were big fans of the Hot & Sour and Spinach Egg Drop soup. It's a bit of a trek to the place (north of Seattle, near Bitter Lake) but clearly worth it. One thing to note, if you're heading for dinner, make sure you get there by 8:30 pm and not a minute later. Some poor family got there at 8:32 pm (literally) and the owner was like, 'sorry, no sit downs after 8:30 due to the kitchen prep time.' And the dad of the family even spoke Mandarin to the owner to work his 'I'm a brother man. gimme' a break' angle. No dice. "No dumplings for you!"

Two words: PORK BUNS!!! On a whim, we were yelping dumpling eateries in the area and found this hole-in-the-wall gem on Greenwood! I've been craving the pork buns ever since I had them. AND, as has been mentioned before many times, the homemade garlic sauce is fantastic. We ordered the Pork Buns, BBQ Pork, Chow Mein Special, and Hot and Sour soup with Dumplings. After ordering, the guy said, "That's too much food. You don't need all that!" LOL! We couldn't believe it. Never have we heard someone turn down an order! But we went ahead with everything, and of course he was right. But the Chow Mein was delish the next day, for sure. This is definitely a place we will go again: great service and delicious food! I feel obligated to comment on the decor, since so many do in their reviews (just talking in general here). I don't need fancy ambiance when eating. It is nice, of course, but not necessary. So don't expect anything fancy here. There were 8 or so tables, close together, but it never felt cramped. A few of the tables are right by the door, so if you don't want the cold, don't sit by the door! Either way, if you want to eat there or take out, it's worth it for sure! Here's hoping that Fu Man is around for a long time!

Food is alrite! Bad service that's why the two star!
(2)Elliot B.
Great dumplings and good prices. -1 star because service and in-restaurant atmosphere can be a little hit or miss.
(4)jamie a.
So so. For a dumplings house you would think they were special - not so much. Kinda bland. Definitely soggy. It's not expensive - but reminds me of mall Chinese food.
(3)Allie S.
Very good dumplings, light, fresh and hand made. As others have said the garlic sauce is amazing. I also am now addicted to their lightly pickled veggies that come with each meal. These dumplings are the closest we have come to our favorite gyoza we had while traveling in Japan.
(4)Ann W.
I really wanted to like Fu Man Dumpling House... even despite its name. I was not impressed at all, and the only things I could enjoy were the garlic sauce and the price. Perhaps I am spoiled by my mum's homemade dumplings, but I didn't think there was anything phenomenal about the Fu Man dumplings that everyone has been raving about. I thought they were too soggy and kind of boring. The house chow mein was okay... I liked the consistency of the noodles and the amount of toppings but the dish itself was way too peppery and oily. We also ordered tofu+veggies which was also too oily and judging by the consistency of the sauce, they used too much cornstarch. We also got green onion pancake, which I was hoping would be the redeeming dish but I was disappointed again. It was quite dry and bland. I had to drench it into the garlic sauce for any type of flavor. Admittedly I am very critical of Chinese restaurants, but to me, this is just another Panda Express with waiter service.
(1)Shirley Y.
Fu Man Dumpling House was nothing impressive. Seeing as they've got the word "dumpling" in their name, I expected their dumplings to be at least a tad better than supermarket dumplings. But no. The taste and consistency is the same as frozen dumplings you buy at 99 Ranch. Bummer. I thought this was going to be my Din Tai Fung replacement in Seattle. (sigh)
(2)Sam P.
The freshly made dumplings are probably some of the best I've ever had anywhere (and I've been to Richmond, BC for Chinese food). They taste great, and the sauce is close to perfection. The prices are reasonable too - you get a ridiculous amount of food for a few bucks. The beef "sandwiches" (a specialty of Henan province in northern China) are off the hook as well. If you go here, you must try one. The only reason that this is not a 5 star review is that Fu Man is too busy for its own good. They seriously could benefit from expanding to a larger location.
(4)Chris S.
Totally love this place, dumplings were awesome as well as the dipping sauces. Everything we ordered was very tasty and my buddy said it was like he was back in China again. The only thing I didn't like about the place was when the server kept insisting my friend and I were ordering too much food. He finally relented and brought us several dozen dumplings, chow mein, roast chicken and a won ton noodle soup each. To his surprise, we polished the whole meal and he mumbled something like, you guys must have been hungry. Oh yeah I do not fool around when it comes to food. Other than that, the service wasn't bad, and the food was damn good. Definitely going back to get my eat on.
(4)Angie K.
I tried this place on the recommendations of Yelpers, and it was pretty good. We had dumplings, pan fried potstickers, and hot and sour soup. The soup was excellent, and a good accompaniment to the dumplings. The dumplings were really, really good -- the only complaint I have about them is the leftover garlic aftertaste that lingers until the next day. I had written a bad review of the ambiance but then I had to go back the next day because I forgot my credit card. I decided to get some more dumplings to take home and while I waited, I was struck by the friendly service by the front of house guy and watching the people in the back make my dumplings for me by hand, I realized that ambience is so beside the point.
(5)Kenneth C.
I just spent 10-months in China, and my girlfriend (Chinese girl, first time in America) is visiting me. One of our favorite meals in China was eating loads of dumplings. We were craving some good dumplings so we thought we would check out this place. My Thoughts: The dumplings were great. Service was so-so. The place is really small so when the staff talks you can hear everything they say. The two men working at the counter were talking about a lot of weird stuff and even dropped a few swear words. That didn't help the atmosphere. The pot-stickers were bad bad bad. If I ever crave dumplings again I'll come here, but maybe I'll bring a ipod to drown out the workers conversations. My Girlfriends thoughts: Dumplings were good, but need more than one type. Need real Chinese vinegar, not the American stuff.
(3)C. N.
After hearing so much about the dumplings here, I finally got to taste some this weekend. They arrived home still nice and warm and since I prefer pan fried dumplings to the boiled ones, I ended up pan frying them myself. They were plump full of meat & I think green onions. It was tasty (of course better than those frozen ones you get at Costco or any Asian supermarket), but since I've made dumplings from scratch before (both filing and dough), I didn't think these were extraordinary. Good, but not fantastic. As for the dumpling sauce, I guess you either love or hate it. I hated it. It was too thick and garlicky. I didn't taste anything but garlic which was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay to overwhelming. I think they puree their garlic cloves and then just add a little dash of soy sauce and vinegar cuz' you cant taste nothing but the garlic. Needless to say, I would definitely like to try some other items on the menu, especially those onion pancakes I've been hearing so much about.
(3)Lyca F.
All my experiences at this place gives five stars. I love everything I ate so far even though the manager said that their speciality is the dumplings. I also like the service by the manager. He is not Japanese, but he reminds me of the way Japanese restaurant managers serve customers, whether he would like the comparison or not. I am comfortable there. Also, the manager said that you can park behind the restaurant.
(5)Tim H.
I enjoyed the FU MAN. While not anything special, this is your very basic, limited menu, we stick to what we know, hole in the wall. They have A)Dumplings B) other stuff. Since this is a dumpling house-- get the dumplings. Anything else is outside of their specialty and should be treated as such. Really, its that basic. Oh, and they are from Taiwan, so don't try the "I havent had dumplings this good since I was living in China!" bit. :)
(4)Michelle B.
Oh Phoo on you, Fu Man. I had visions of pork dumplings and delicious Chinese food dancing in my head...and then they fell down. Granted the pan fried dumplings were among some of the crispiest and tastiest in the city, but the rest of the food, well, meh. The egg flour soup looked so promising, with fresh ingredients and crisp veggies, but ended up tasting like onions. The chow mein was solidly mediocre and the leek pancake ended up looking like a pan fried hot pocket. Plus, the dining room was kind of crowded and not very comfortable. They do sell bags of frozen dumplings, so call ahead and just get some to go.
(3)yin y.
It's a dumpling house... Specialize in fresh hand made dumplings. Don't come here ordering soup or anything other then dumplings. Don't come here expecting great service, comfy chairs or nice decor. Don't come here near (or at) closing time because they will kick you out. Come here only for great dumplings and only dumplings. Come here so that everyone you come in contact with later are scared away by your garlic burp Come here to buy handmade frozen dumplings instead of the Costco Kirkland dumpling
(5)Pete C.
Yumplings!
(4)Karen A.
This restaurant makes superb dumplings, the best I've ever had in Seattle. The hot and sour soup, complex and peppery, is also highly recommended. The service was prompt, the food hot and fresh, and the portions generous. In other words, this is a pretty authentic Chinese dumpling house. Reviews that focus on why the place should have other things on the menu, why the dumplings should taste different, why the food should be vegetarian, say a lot about the writers, and nothing about the restaurant. And what it says about the writers in that they are...how can I say this semi-politely?--dim and self-absorbed. The name of the restaurant includes the word "dumplings," guys. And, whaddaya know, that's what they serve!
(5)Stacey M.
This is one of my favorite places to get pot stickers and won ton soup. The won tons are huge and take up the whole little cup when you share a large bowl. And the pork pot-stickers are so yummy, with the garlic sauce. My husband also likes the onion pancake which is thinker than the ones my step mother in law makes, but still good none the least. I always look for an excuse to come to this restaurant, they never disappoint.
(4)Sharon C.
Pros:Dumplings are BIG!and homemade too :) Fills you up! Love the sweet sauce! Awesome and engaging service! Cons: Small place and the food is just normal...you know...average...
(3)Tristan P.
Best dumplings around. The place is a bit small and crowded but the service is always friendly. Food is delicious and I have always left happy.
(5)C M.
I have been here many times. I love the food and enjoy eating here often. The place is very small and may have to wait for a table. The dumplings and pot stickers are great! Staff is friendly and attentive. Love the green onion pancake also!
(5)Ryan M.
Ehhhhh....all the duplings tasted the same. Oh, they were good.....but even though we orderdthree different things, it all tasted the same. Probably should have ordered fried rice or something. Maybe we will try this place again.
(3)Heather W.
Just got back from lunch here *pats belly* and I am LOVING these garlic burps. WOO! Anything in front of my face dies when I exhale. It's like I'm the grinch! I'm a vegetarian and alas, there is no dumplings for vegetarians. :( I did see that every table in the restaurant ordered them, and that the party of four to my right ordered 48. 48 dumplings! How do you eat that many!? Anyway, if you sprinkled their garlic sauce on my shoulders I'm quite sure I would sprout wings and fly and perhaps be capable of random acts of humorous magic. I put it on everything I ate and though I can't see it, I'm positive my stomach is lined with fairy twinkle dust right now. Vegetable chow mein was good, the leek patties were legit, and the tomato egg drop soup was tasty. Solid effort by the Fu Man. I'll be seeing him again. Beware, he is kinda like Dumpling Nazi...you aren't there to be served by him, rather you are there to pay him to provide you with tasty dumplings. He will not be inconvenienced. There are about 8 tables and they fill up quick during lunch time. He refused to push two tables together for a group of 5 and told them to come back in half an hour. No dumplings for you!
(4)Ronette L.
This tiny, off-the-beaten-path eatery is well worth the trip. Everything was fresh with lots of bright green herbs, clean tastes and a great change from the frozen potsticker you get in most other places. Two of us shared the hot & sour soup with dumplings (8) and steamed pork buns for lunch. The soup had the perfect balance between tart and fresh flavors, was very complex and was the best h&s soup I've had in years (and I am a seeker). Definately the best in Puget Sound. The dumplings were magical with fresh cilantro peaking out of the spiced pork. The pork buns are stuffed with dumpling-like pork, rather than the bar-b-que flavor I'm accustomed to, but was delicious nonetheless. We couldn't finish what we were served so ordered the browned potsickers (6) to go, had the rest boxed, and ate again for dinner and had plenty. Three dishes together with a generous tip for great service came to less than $35. I will return often.
(5)Whitney k.
My friend took us to this place and it made me very happy that i have a new place to get dumpings, i think i like the Chinese hamburger thing more then the dumplings as they were huge tasty and something i have never had before or seen offered anywhere else. The garlic sause is really yummy to but i would like a different selection of sause that they do not offer. Service was not that good no one seemed to be happy or smile but i will be back to get my pork hamburger as i have seen it called.
(4)Michael S.
Great meal. The service was fine, efficient. The food was great, very happy to have a good reasonable family spot! Dumplings were great..the sauce on the table was amazing...did anyone mentioned the pickled yummy they start you with.
(4)Mark G.
Dumplings and pot stickers are very tasty, though the garlic dipping sauce is much too garlicky. The Hot and Sour soup is perfect. Perfect! Parking is a bit tricky, so try and go there during off hours. Note that if you want frozen dumplings to take home you have to order a day ahead of time. Guarantee you are filled up for $6.00 (however you decide to spend it). I can't wait to go back.
(5)Sebastian J.
Solid dumplings but not any better than the ones we make at home and nowhere as good as those made in top dumpling houses. Luckily for Fu Man, Chinese food in Seattle sucks and it's the only dumpling house I know of. And since it's located in an off the path location in a White neighborhood, it caters primarily to White tastes (which is why so many of the original menu items have been crossed off). And most White folks don't have a basis for comparison, which means Fu Man can get away with serving solid to below average food. Still, it's a good place to get your dumpling fix if you live in Seattle and don't have the time to fly to California or Taipei to eat at Ding Tai Fung (world famous dumpling house, with operations in Shanghai, Tokyo, Taipei, and Arcadia). It's too bad that they don't offer vegetarian dumplings because they're easy to make and tasty. And I doubt they have the skills to ever offer decent xiao long baos (no place in Seattle prepares it well). But I wish they would offer shen jien bao, which is fairly easy to make. As for service, keep in mind that Chinese people tend to be very upfront about certain things that most Americans keep to themselves, and vice versa. Don't make too big of a deal about the "gruff" service -- some of it is a cultural misunderstanding. The owner's inability to understand American culture well (he's a bit of a hick), however, prevents him from making it big. It should be obvious that there's a market for vegetarian dumplings in Seattle. And that improved marketing would double his business.

This is my favorite of favorite Chinese restaurants. Being a Chinaman from Hawaii, it really is hard to find a Chinese restaurant that I enjoy. My old favorite Doong Kong Lau has gone bye bye...can anyone tell me why? I never got the story, but the sign intrigued me and I had to try the Dumpling House. Actually it was my sis who told me about it. Now most weekends we frequent this place as our Sunday brunch. So onto the food. Dumplings....nuf said. His mom actually hand makes these in the back...between the three of us, we typically get our typical 24 dumplings...wait a sec, why am I writing this review, they are busy enough as it is. If you happen to stroll in on a weekend afternoon, be prepared to be turned away. They get busy and normally don't have too many open tables. But I'll be nice, what else...their ma po tofu is just like my mom's, the leek or green onion pancake are great and the special noodle...one word yum. Their sauces are also to die for if you are a ginger and garlic lover. We like it hot and that is how we mix our sauces. It is not uncommon for us to walk away with ginger on our breath for the rest of the afternoon. Anyway, the people are great, they know us by face (not by name) and they treat us like family.

Probably the best dumplings in Seattle. The restaurant is cozy, the owner/server completely polite and present to help take your order swiftly. My favorites here are the boiled dumplings and their dumpling sauce. Word to the uninitiated, don't pile on the dumpling sauce unless you're eating with your significant other. Their noodle dishes are pretty good too. We ate the lo mein fu man special which included a good number of shrimp and pieces of nicely seasoned pork. I always start with a cup of hot an sour soup. It's quite tasty.

One of the best Chinese places in the northend. The dumplings, pot stickers are good and the fried rice is awesome. We also had the pan fried onion cake which was really good. The pot stickers are huge and will definitly fill you up. The garlic soy sauce is overrated but definitly interesting flavor. I will definitly hit it up again.

Almost 5, but service really is variable even for take out, parking is a little tight, and I agree, some menu items seem priced a wee bit high. I love, love, love the garlic sauce, but you really can't be around people for the next month! Seriously, folks, we are talking some pungent (but super tasty) dipping sauce for those dumplings. I also love the green onion pancake here-I tried the leek one, but bleh, not for me. An nice order of some fresh dumplings, a little rice and one of those green onion pancakes, and I am a happy and stinky gal.

Thank you Yelpers, for helping me find this place. This is literally right around the block from where I live at the moment, and I have been driving past it for years, paying it no mind (it's extremely easy to do). One fateful December night, I decided to stop in per your reviews. I've been back maybe three times since. My order when I go with people generally consists of an order of the house fried rice, dumplings, pork buns (i think?), and hot and sour soup. We have yet to venture off those core items, but it will happen soon. The first time I went the fried rice was exceptional. I think they used ginger sauce or something in this order. It has not been the same since, but it is still very good. The dumplings are excellent and the hot and sour soup is superb. It's an absolute must for every meal, no matter what. No. Matter. What. Anyways only reason why it's not 5 stars in my opinion is, like I said, have yet to venture off those core dishes. When I try those, I'll redo my review - if I remember.

I love this place!

Incredible! Yes, there's a wait .... and yes it's worth it! Fabulous green onion pancakes, Special Chow Mein, and the garlic sauce on the table is to die for. I can't wait to go back and try everything else on the menu ... hope to see you there!
(5)Huy T.
This place has some of the best dumplings I've ever eaten. It has an authentic Chinese homemade taste and the garlic sauce is excellent. Their spinach tofu soup is warming and light. Overall, great food. My only problem with this restaurant is how small it is. As a previous reviewer said, it can get crowded really fast.
(4)Rob H.
Passing through town and saw this place with high ratings on yelp and decided to try it out. Gotta say that given the ratings we were disappointed. Nothing bad, but not great either. Definitely not 'the best dumplings this side of the Pacific'.
(3)C Y.
Hungry for lunch, we stopped into this hole in the wall without any prior knowledge of the place. We were very pleasantly surprised with some of the best freshly made dumplings I've had. Delicate with a deliciously seasoned pork filling. The everything soup was also very good. A generous sized bowl of hot broth, noodles, prawns, eggs and assorted vegetables. I'll be back

First of all, I'm guessing we all agree that when it comes to "traditional" home style Chinese cuisine (or any cuisine for that matter), even the Chinese will argue about what's the best... but as an American who has eaten a lot of "American Chinese" food (HEAVY on the corn starch, sugar, and over-cooked vegetables), and after having spent several months in Malaysia eating at my Chinese co-workers homes and eating extremely fresh street food, all I can say was that Fu Man was a breath of fresh air! When you walk into a place and the decor is extremely simple and white people are in the minority.. for me this is a good sign, (actually a great sign!).. I like to eat where the locals eat.. if you want fancy table settings and are afraid of a little dust and dirt, maybe this isn't the place for you. Ok, now about the food, my friend Virgil and I decided to split a handful of dishes, the obligatory steamed dumplings, half pork and half vegetable.. were delicious... the ingredients were so fresh and the flavors and seasoning heavenly.. the garlic dipping sauce was delicious but I would have also liked a little dark vinegar dipping sauce, not sure if that's a regional thing or what, but it wasn't a big deal.. and the Chili sauce was so fresh and tasty, definitely made fresh on the premises, not poured from a jar of Rooster brand. Next we had the pan seared pot stickers, again, very fresh, very delicious, how can you go wrong when you make them fresh.. and the skins were just right, not too thick and chewy like some places. The Spinach Tofu Egg Flower soup was also very delicious and the broth was clean and flavorful, not so thick and full of corn starch like a lot of the regular Chinese places I've eaten (maybe in mainland China they actually use a lot of corn starch in their soup.. anyway, this was much more satisfying). And last but not least we had the Chinese Pork Jelly dish which admittedly I was a little hesitant about, not because I don't like to try new things (trust me, I ate some strange stuff in Malaysia) but the thought of eating Jelly or anything Gelatinous just didn't sound appetizing... well, it was delicious and the flavors were subtle and intriguing and a great balance to the warm pan fried dumplings.. then I looked over on the wall and apparently they won an award from Seattle Weekly or the Times for that specific dish.. I'm guessing that's saying a lot given that they have the entire International District to compete with.. At the end of the meal I was stuffed and received my biggest shock and pleasant surprise ... by how inexpensive it was, I believe the entire bill for the two of us came up to $26 or $13 each for a little slice of heaven.. needless to say we gave them a big tip!
(5)Jim B.
These people make fantastic dumplings. They also have really great jellied meat - sort of Chinese rillettes. Amazing. Everything here is handmade, the skins for the dumplings and the potstickers are perfect. The right thickness, consistency, and freshness. This is another newcomer to Seattle that's basically saved my marriage. The food is incredible. Just part around the corner. Good food should never suffer because of parking. Americans can be such whiners about parking! Use yer feet!

It pains me to write this, beause as a supporter of small, local restaurants, I tend to want to build up, rather than tear down. Even more troubling is that the food at Fu Man is extraordinarily good...wonderful dumplings, ginger chicken to die for, and oh, that pancake. No, my problem with Fu Man lies not with the food. In fact, I highly recommend it for take-out, because ultimately, this is a take-out window masquerading as a full-service restaurant. My first meal there was a late lunch, and food was excellent. Next meal was a take-out dinner, picked up at 8:30...again, great food. But during my four subsequent visits, unfortunately I was turned away. Each time, we (groups of 2-4) arrived between 8pm and 8:35, at a a restaurant billed as being open until 9, on both this site, and on the sign next to the front door. And each time, we were turned away, with vague excuses like "the kitchen is closing early,' " we only do take-out after 8:30 (and it was 8:15!)," or "we close at 9pm" (8:35 when we arrived, and the restaurant half-filled with diners). The drive from Green Lake is not extraordinarily long, but frankly, with all the wonderfull restaurants available in Seattle which actually want your business, and understand that consistency and service are paramount to success, I cannot in good conscience recommend Fu Man. The restaurant business is fickle and competitive, so I can't help but feel slighted when a proprietor seems more concerned with having an easy night, than with acommodating customers who are attempting in good faith (and within posted hours) to dine and hand over their hard-earned cash. And please don't mistake me for a pernicketty, pixilated diner...i eat out 4-5 nights each week, at a wide variety of local establishment, and tend to have a fairly generous threshold of tolerance for the occasional "off" night. But Fu man doesn't seem to want your business unless it's a take-out order, or you arrive before 8pm. (And yes, it isn't just me who has been turned away...recently, i saw two other couples walk in and out when we did, at roughly 8:30!). Good food, lousy service. And I'm not planning to give them a 5th chance.

Fu Man Dumpling House sits in a tiny strip of stores on Greenwood Avenue, close to the northern city limits. Tonight was my second visit. Service: The service was very, very good. Upon entering, we were promptly seated. Menus appeared quickly, as did the tea, water and pickles. Our orders showed up in good time, and the two servers (one was the owner) checked in frequently. Ambiance: This is a small, unpretentious place. The interior, including the furniture, was simple-functional. I counted about 26 seats - doubt they can even squeeze in 30 people. Note that if you occupy a table which seats more than the number of people in your group, you will be asked to move. While I find this perfectly reasonable, I did see a couple of diners giving the owner The Evil Eye. Food: We had the famed dumplings, Leek (chive, really) Pancake, Pork Jelly (we'll call it Chinese Head Cheese ;-) ), and Seafood Fried Noodles. While the sweet/sour/salty garlic sauce does add some kick, the dumplings weren't anything special. Decent dough/skin, decent stuffing - nothing particularly rich, unusual or flavorful. I daresay the skin was a tad too thick, even. Unfortunately, this was true of the rest of the food. It's not a good sign when you're constantly reaching for the garlic and hot sauces. Pricing: Prices were very reasonable. Dishes ran 6 to 9$. Total cost for dinner for 3 (no alcohol): $29. 3 Stars - There's nothing particularly wrong with Fu Man but with so many Chinese places in the city, there are places I prefer much more.

Fu Man's is a great place to order dumplings and chinese when we're not in the mood to trek to the ID. I've tried the bolied and fried dumplings and i can say they both taste very authentic and yummy, but the fried dumplings just have a little too much oil for our taste so we do order less of those. Good price points and I like that they have their own special garlic sauce to go with them. It's really yummy sauce, but you know the aftermath of garlic - better to order on nights when you're staying in! I can also say that they have one of the best versions of hot and sour soup that i've ever had - usually ones at restaurants are not very spicy but have everything else right; this one has everything right, even the spicy!

Dumplings? That's a funny word. Sounds like something my little 15-month old boy leaves in his Pampers. NO! That was bad. A potty joke, plus a gratuitous mention of my son? Totally uncalled for. So now that I've lowered the bar down to the septic tank, let's talk about food. Great. Great. Okay. Good. And we'll go back there again. Frankly because there's not much else for dumplings between Uwajimaya and Vancouver, B.C. The dumplings were fantastic. Like nothing you'd find in a diaper. You get four sauces, but go for the one that looks like an oil slick. It's gingery! We had the green onion pancake too. Little green onion bits, mushroom garlic and other stuff all packed in. It's more like a calzone except that your grandmother won't make you feel guilty if you don't finish it. My wife had something with tofu in it. She said it was okay. Rather bland, tasteless compared to everything else. But then again, I don't expect too much from a tofu dish. Tofu always gets a free pass -- spoiled soy-product that it is. Also on the table was beef chow mein. It was of the wheat noodle variety. Could have used more vegetables, but couldn't we always use more vegetables? So I checked out the other reviews about the service. I can see that happening, but they were cool with us. Our waiter even moved us to a bigger table because he said we ordered a lot of food. And he explained all the and sauces and stuff, stuff like "Pork Jelly", explained to us as, "It's MEAT and then we mix in JELLY." Oh, patience my salivating tongue. Patience.

My grandparents came from Shangdong province, in the north, where noodles and dumplings rule! Although Fu Man may look somewhat sketchy from the outside, any reservations I had soon evaporated after taking a bite into a genuine hand-made dumpling, just like how grandma used to make! What's not to like about this place? The filling of the dumplings and "Chinese-burgers" are well seasoned and not too greasy. Don't expect sissy Shanghainese style xiao long bao at Fu Man-we northerners like our buns big & meaty (boy that sounds so wrong!). The owner is an extremely pleasant fellow. When I went on a weekday, it wasn't too crazy, but he said that it can get awfully packed at this small, mom & pop place. Just be patient! It'll be worth the wait. Caveat emptor-if you are vegetarian, this is not a place for you. For centuries, lads from Shangdong defended China proper from Huns, Mongols, and Manchus-and they didn't do it on a vegetarian diet!

One of the best kept secrets(until now) in North Seattle! Hands down, the best fried rice. The pan fried pot stickers & dumplings are so addicting that the federal government should put a disclaimer on the menu. The homemade house sauce is to die for! What's in the sauce? It's a secret, but I think I can taste tiny bits on Heaven :) My mouth is seriously watering while writing this!

I buy most of my bulk grain for brewing at The Cellar next door and always wondered why the employees smelled so strongly of garlic all the time..I soon found out as soon as I started eating at Fu Man on a reguar basis. This is just a really cool place. The service is great (the regular guy who serves is a crack up) and if he's not totally swamped, tries to bring everything out individually in courses. Yeah, it's small but if you have to wait 15 minutes it's so worth it. There is also plenty of parking around the back of the building. Yes, the dumplings are fantastic. Just get an order and enjoy. There is so much more great stuff on the menu though. Like the dumplings, the noodles are made by hand as well. The Chinese pancakes and hamburgers are juicy and delicious. My girlfriend and I usually get three items with a beverage and make it out of there for around 25 bucks, and almost always leave with a take home box of left overs.

Came here at 8:40 PM on a Sunday night, 20 minutes before closing. The Dumpling Nazi man behind the counter told us that only take-out was available, since they would be closing soon and they didn't want to deal with our slow-momo, late-eating butts. He also told us that pancakes weren't going to be cooked, since it would take too long. Booo. So we ordered take-out, crossed the street, and squatted out in the cold on a bench at an empty drive-through cafe with bikini-clad cowgirls. Woohoo. Classy. - regular dumplings (x24) - potstickers (x6) - chow mein - assorted vegetables with tofu Regular dumplings: Wow. Some of the best dumplings I've ever had. Flavorful inside, with lots of rich, yummy juice that didn't feel overpoweringly rich. (This is a very good thing! It means I can eat a LOT more.) It almost seemed like there were little water chestnut bits in the dumpling stuffing--there was a wonderful, almost crunchy texture to them, similar to lion's heads. Yumyumyum. Only drawback is that it tasted slightly MSG-y. But I'd happily scarf down more of these. Potstickers: These were good, but definitely not as amazing as the dumplings. Less juice inside them, and not as flavorful. They seemed almost a bit on the dry side. Chow mein: Pretty good noodles, with a nice chewy consistency. Good, but like the potstickers, can't hold a candle to the dumplings. Stomach space is precious real estate. Assorted vegetables with tofu: Damn me for thinking that I needed veggies with my meal. Screw having a balanced diet. This was incredibly disappointing. Mediocre flavor, with what really looked like the rejected vegetable bits from the night. (Sliced up mushroom (that probably never made it into dumplings), the thick white butt ends of napa cabbage, tough old broccoli, etc.) This was definitelhy disappointing. At the very least, I wish they had been good vegetables. *sigh* Moral of the night: Just get dumplings. If some silly little voice tells me that I should try more things, or that I need a more balanced meal, do not listen to it.. The five stars, then, are for the dumplings. Since really, my bad for ordering anything else at a dumpling house. (Although their pancakes looked pretty good... maybe next time...)
(5)Wen D.
Had to go back for more Ma Po Tofu. Also tried the Hot and Sour soup. It was excellent and unlike other places, I'm betting it wasn't made from a package. This is like mom-cooking that is consistently delicious. The place is small but the service is always friendly and fast.
(4)Karin J.
I'll second the previous warning about the limited selection for vegetarians. On the menu, they've even crossed out the "or" in "pork or vegetable dumplings." However, the leek pancake was delicious. It took a while to come out, but it was worth it. I would go back for lunch for that and and the egg drop soup. If the soup isn't vegetarian, I don't want to know about it. The atmosphere is casual and the waiter was very nice.
(3)Jess Y.
I love their homemade garlic sauce! I come here everytime with my in-laws when I visit on the weekends!
(5)S N.
The dumplings are good, as is most of the other things we have tried. My wife still makes better. We are a little troubled by the discontinued items on the menu, which at last count looks to be about 30% of their original menu. Parking is a problem. The owner, at least the front man who has been there both times we have been there, has the worst attitude I have ever seen in a restaurant owner/manager. He acts like you are bothering him!!! While his food is OK, it is not at the level where he should afford to be so cocky!! It makes the atmosphere uncomfortable. We have chosen to go elsewhere next time. I can do without the arrogance.
(2)Bunneh L.
It's true. The dumplings here are good. I wasn't having a mouth orgasm or anything, but I did enjoy them very much. I like the super garlicky dipping sauce it comes with, but thought it was a little sweet for my taste (I have a meat tooth, not a sweet tooth). We also ordered the egg flower soup with spinach and tofu. Outstanding. Not at all like your typical thick, fluorescent yellow egg drop soup you get at Panda Express. Rather, this soup was thin and clear, with large chunks of eggs floating around, along with small cubes of tofu and fresh spinach. Very clean flavors. Delicious! I gotta come back and try their other goodies! The owner was very nice. Not the usual gruff Chinese guy manning the counter. A refreshing change. Oh, and the parking sitch here really blows. I have no idea why every parking spot in front of the joint was taken when there were only two people actually eating in the restaurant when I walked in. Annoying!
(4)Mary L.
Best pork dumplings and tofu outside of Chengdu. The tofu is like custard and the dumplings were packed with flavor --- Ginger, scallions, probably garlic. Sauces on the table were good with both tofu with vegetables (which were served crisp and perfect) and dumplings. Can't wait to go back for more. May try ordering dumplings 24 hours in advance to take home frozen. Great find in Northend! No ambiance, however....a real hole in the wall.
(5)Cameron W.
This place has really good food. Definite thumbs up on the leek pancakes - those are my absolute favorite. However the reason for the abnormally low review is for the following reasons. The potstickers (fried and steamed) are great but the garlic sauce they have on the table is 1) way too overpowering and 2) left on the table and just grosses me out. I really wish they would just put it into a dish and serve it to you instead of leaving it on the table where you can just see the sticky, goopy sauce collect on the container. I also find it annoying that despite the numerous times I've been there, everytime I ask for more of the pickle appetizer the guy reinforces that I have to pay for it. Hello! I understand I have to pay for it - just bring it to me and charge me for it without the commentary. [I realize it's probably because of the tons of people who don't read the menu and don't know it costs extra but considering the number of times I've eaten there I would think there would be an understanding by now - dang...I know this is coming off like I'm a pompous jerk but I can't help myself!]
(3)J'Nee D.
Wish I had known about Fu Man years ago. This is soul food. And I can't get enough of it. The noodles are soft and puffy with just enough slightly sweet and savory sauce to coat. The surprise in my to-go order, the hot and sour soup was excellent. And the dumplings, dear lord the dumplings. I could eat my weight in steamed dumplings. Mix the garlic sauce and chili sauce on your plate, run your dumping around in the sauce and pop it in your mouth. Pure heaven. Service is everything I would want; attentive, kind and with a sense of humor. These are very nice people and I feel good about patronizing their restaurant.
(4)Tiffany L.
Yum. This place is well priced and very authentic. Occasionally, the wait staff gets stressed out when there are many people waiting, but they don't need to! I would wait an hour for these dumplings. Many people love the leek pancakes, but I was a bigger fan of the onion pancake.
(5)David S.
The first meal of our 7-day Seattle visit, Fu Man did not disappoint. A little hole in the wall place with about 10 tables. Our party of 4 ordered the 24-piece boiled dumplings, the special shrimp & chicken chow mein (noodles) & mixed-vegetables w/silken tofu. Every dish was just awesome comfort food & went down incredibly easy. The dumplings reminded us of ones we've had in Shanghai, very "authentic" tasting. The sweet garlic sauce that everyone on Yelp has raved about is very very good. The service was fast & friendly. A great start to our trip!
(4)Dave M.
We've been to this place so many times that Ming (the owner) just recites our order when we sit down. "Pan-fried potstickers, ma po tofu - extra spicy, and special chow mein." Yes, yes and yes. Although, we occasionally throw in the curve ball of a dozen boiled dumplings, fried rice, hot and sour soup (my wife really digs it) or beef sandwich (really more of a rolled crepe with slices of beef, cilantro and onion). We always add the garlic sauce to our food and our breath pays the price later. However, it's not a big deal if you and the significant other both have funk breath. Everything at Fu Man is made to order, which is partly why everything is so good. Luckily, this place is in our hood, but if it's not in yours, it is still worth making the trip.
(4)Mei-I F.
We finally made it here this weekend and it was not bad. Eating their homemade dumplings brought back memories of sitting around my mom's kitchen assembly-line-style producing hundreds of them every weekend. They are delish especially with their intense garilc-soy sauce. Fu Man's made-to-order dumplings are the real deal, but ouch, are they expensive! I can appreciate the labor that goes into making them, but $12.95 for a dozen dumplings? Other items on the menu are mediocre and mostly typical of what you can get at any chinese restaurant. The green onion pancakes were pretty good, although they were on the thick side. Stick with the dumplings. You can also order them to go - just give them 24 hours notice because they don't make it until you order it!
(3)John M.
Everything I've had here was drool-inducing amazing. Then again, all I eat here are the dumplings. Well, maybe at some point I've had the steamed rolls, chow mein and fried rice, but it's dumplings that keep you coming back. Sure, the service may seem awkward, the dining room looks dirty and Ming is a little weird, but take a look through the window to the kitchen and you'll see a well-run, clean, efficient dumpling shop. Besides, I only order take-out from them these days. Take a bite of the dumpling and they have a perfectly chewy texture and are dripping with the pork broth that forms inside when they are boiled. The dumplings are served with a garlic soy sauce that soaks into the wrapper, delivering a heavenly flavor. Too bad that you'll stink like death afterward and you won't realize it. I'd assert that it's a small price to pay for the taste. It's not much to look at and you have to realize to park in the back of the building, but the food is second to none. I've not had dumplings this good--not even in Asia. Just remember not to kiss anyone after eating here.
(5)Sarah S.
I'd heard great things about the place and my throat was sore and I wanted something other than pho, so we tried it out. First impression really wasn't good. The place was tiny and crowded and our wait for table OR to go was quoted at 30mins, but we stayed. The non Asian waiter guy was really curt, but I assumed it was because they were so busy. The wait was actually maybe 15mins, but either way, so worth it. The pan friend potstickers are the best I've ever had anywhere and the dumpling plates are cheap and and huge. The egg drop soup with dumplings was the perfect saltiness my throat needed. The service once we sat was fast and we went through 3 pots of perfectly brewed tea in no time. I'm so going back and maybe I'll call ahead, or at least bring a book to read.
(4)James F.
I found this place though a cousin of my girlfriends, she wanted to go there on her visit to the Seattle area. It has quickly become one of my favorite cheap eats, even though it is quite a haul to get there from Issaquah. The food is great but I give a warning, if you are going to bed with your significant other that night, try to eat it at the same time. There is some serious Dragon Breath from some of the dishes there.
(5)J R R.
Ummm, such good food! I have eaten here several times, and the quality of their food is so consistent. This is a family run restaurant, and their food is prepared with a great deal of love. The Dumpling whether pan fried or simply boiled are exquisite. They make an absolutely top notch chow mein, the noodles are hand made and so tender. Try the hot and sour soup with dumplings... scrumpious! But at the Fu Man it is really all about the dumpling, the buns, the gyoza, and the garlic dipping sauce. The leek pancake is also stellar. Throw caution to the wind... Try the pork jelly, you wont regret it... JR
(4)RowerRob C.
Remember the time when you would brag about how many dumplings you can inhale in one setting? No? Oh wait, you gotta be Chinese, have an annoying sibling who would try to out-do you in everything, and a dumpling restaurant near where you lived. This place brings back memories. The dumplings are authentic... reminds me of this place back in Taipei. From the conversations of the restaurant workers in the kitchen, I could tell they are from Taiwan -- and the food tells it too. Those "Cantos" have nothing on Taiwanese dumplings. =) I went in for a late lunch today at 2pm. The place was empty except for 1 other table. The restaurant guy was very friendly and was chitchatting with this other regular who ordered take-out. I'm not sure why the other reviewer sensed arrogance... maybe it's because the restaurant was packed with DEMANDING Yelpers? Who knows? If the place were bigger, I'd give it 5 stars. Update 5/6/2007: Soooo fuuuullll... 24 dumplings down the hatch!
(4)Melanie W.
Given the several terrible reviews about the service here, we were prepared to get takeout, if necessary, but the service was great! And the food wasn't bad either. For a hungry group of four, we ordered boiled dumplings, pot stickers, tofu and veggies, and the leek pancake (I think that's what it was called). The pot stickers, which were the same filling and dough as the boiled dumplings, were my favorite. Flavorful and crisp, they hit the spot. The boiled dumplings were great, as was the leek pancake thing. It was filled with tons of scallions and translucent noodles. Try it; you won't be sorry. The only disappointment was the tofu and veggies, but there was a vegetarian with us, and the dumplings are filled with pork. The tofu dish would sustain life, but I wouldn't order it again. In a nutshell - strip mall, kind of weird interior, kick as dumplings. Worth the trek from Seattle? Definitely.
(4)Megan L.
After eating dumplings at a specialty dumpling house in New York, we wanted to find something similar in the Puget Sound. On Yelp, we discovered Fu Man. We ordered 48 dumplings, a large hot and sour soup, and an order of chow mein between 5 people. The garlic sauce is the perfect compliment with the dumplings. The large hot and sour soup for $4.95, although atypical from the usual hot & sour, was a real good deal, feeding all five of us. The chow mein was decent. This place is a true hole in the wall. It has about 10 small tables swished into a tiny room. No matter where in the restaurant you are, you can probably hear any other table's conversation if you tried. I would give a 3.5 star but since I can't, I'll give 4 stars.
(4)Keri A.
I have been coming to this place alot longer than I have been on Yelp and have frequented it from when it first opened. There are actually quite a few excellent restaurants in Broadview and this is among the best. This is the best Hot and Sour Soup I have tasted. The steamed pork dumplings are the must have dish here. The service is good and friendly. It is small but we have never waited long even though it is busy. People who know Chinese food rate this among the best in Seattle but it is not the typical Chinese restaurant and it is not Dim Sum which another reviewer made the mistake of. If you go here you need to experience for what it is a Dumpling House and you won't get a better experience of that anywhere else. Maybe as good. This is an authentic type of Chinese restaurant.

Love this place -- reminds me of my parents' home-cooking. The prices are reasonable, quality is consistently solid, and service is usually pretty good. Just don't arrive within 30 minutes of closing or you'll be turned away. As evidenced by the expensive brand new BMW parked outside all the time, this place isn't wanting for customers, and the owner knows it.
(4)Vanessa A.
Too greasy and far too garlicky. I've been there once and never thought to go back. I know a good dumpling place when I can't stop eating even after I'm full. I was pretty much done with it before I was full. I didn't know this place was so well reviewed until I looked here and I was shocked. If you want really good dumplings go to Dineasty in Richmond, BC on 3 road by Save on Foods, or Ding Tai Fung in Arcadia, CA. Yes I think outside the state when I rank good food.
(3)Angela D.
OMG!! This place is really good!!!! I LOVE THEIR GARLIC SAUCE.. everything with the garlic sauce tastes sooo goood!!! I would recommend their steam dumpling, fried rice, and green onion pancake!
(5)johnny D.
DUMPLING MADNESS !!!!! the place rocks the dumpling world , who needs veggies when you can lust after these pockets of joy smothered in the house garlic sauce . Don't miss the green onion pancake or the potstickers, and the steamed pork buns ,they are money!
(5)Dale B.
Love this food! Our favorite local Chinese takeout. The dining room is small. Fun to watch them make the delicious dumplings.
(4)dean c.
A long time ago I had "wonton noodle soup" for lunch here. What I was served was definitely not Cantonese-style wonton noodle but pretty tasty nonetheless. After that I passed this spot on by for a year or so until I eventually stopped in again and ordered shuijiao (boiled dumplings) and a cup of soup. Absolutely hit the spot. The texture and flavor of the dumplings is so satisfying, and the garlic sauce is really delicious. I've been missing out.

I was expecting a surly experience, perhaps a long wait. I was however fortunate in my timing...and was seated immediately at a small table in front. Everyone was very friendly and I proceeded to order hot and sour soup (delightful - very different from the usual with fresh cilantro, and plenty of fresh, not wet-dog-like, white pepper), the seaweed and fresh garlic which also was festooned with cilantro and a nice counterpoint to the soup, and then...because it was the smallest number I COULD order (take the point people! I HAD NO CHOICE)...12 boiled dumplings. These came chock a block on a small platter and proceeded to find their way to my tummy. Except for 4. They were happy to bag these for me with extra dipping sauce to go. They do start you with a nice salad-appetizer which today was a tangy cabbage pickle, lotus root, green pepper, and something else rootlike in form that I couldn't identify. The dipping sauce on the table in my opinion could have been a touch sweeter but nonetheless was nicely potent with garlic and ginger. All this has been said before, but here's another vote: A nice place, nice people, it's neat to watch them deftly making your dumplings behind the window while you wait, and pretty cheap to boot. Next time I need a dining companion so I can try more things! I really want to try the jellied meat and the chinese 'hamburger' thing. The bbq pork someone else had looked good. Don't go here if you HATE cilantro. Mmmm, dumplings.
(4)Amy A.
I can't give this a rating on the dumplings... I didn't have any as I don't eat pork, but I have to say the shrimp fried rice, potato pancake, and the chow mein were all fantastic!!! I usually don't even like chow mein, but it was the only non-meat entree I could find. Everyone else who had the dumplings seemed to really love them. I'll definately be back for more!
(5)Adam K.
Great dumplings. Pancake and chow mien is good too. VERY strong garlic sauce that will stay with you all day. Make sure everyone has it so not to offend anyone!
(5)Joseph F.
Fu Man lives up to all expectations! Their dumplings are fantastic and everything elsebwas very fresh! We had the pot stickers, steamed dumplings and chicken chow mein (we ordered the Fu Man chow mein, but they mixed up the order). Evertything was delicious, inexpensive and worth the trip! Highly recommended!
(4)Jason L.
this place is amazing. the pot stickers, dumplings and the chicken are excellent. their leek pancake is good but it runs out a lot (takes about 20 minutes to make). their home made garlic+soy sauce is great with everything. suggest going early as they do not have a lot of seats.
(3)jeremy b.
Lovely dumplings. Friendly service .
(5)S And A D.
Homemade dumplings are fantastic. House garlic sauce way to garlicky and they put it on some things without telling you.
(2)Latife N.
Fu-YUM! As the name suggests, Fu Man concentrates on homemade Chinese dumplings. Grab a dozen or two of the basic steamed dumplings and try the steamed potstickers (the fried ones are a little greasy) or even the dubious sounding but good "chinese hamburger" dish. The place is a hole in the wall with just a few tables. In case you don't see the sign when you drive by, you might keep an eye out for its neighbor's sign, which features a disturbing big-breasted cat. You will reek of garlic after eating Fu Man. It's great.
(5)Terry W.
The steamed dumplings here are worth driving and waiting for. Though all the dumplings and potstickers seem to have the same filling. So i would only get one per order. But really you should only order one. And that is the steam dumplings. grade A comfort food.
(4)Latsyo T.
So far I have tried Special ChowMain and Special Fried Rice and they tasted very good, the best I have had so far. Garlic sauce is good as well. I was not very sure about the complimentary soup, not for my taste.
(5)Jade L.
I've never tasted any dumplings like this at a restaurant anywhere in Seattle! Very yummy, fresh, homemade! Love it!
(4)Sue M.
Great Hot & Sour soup! Delicious Chow Mein! Everything is good!! Try it!
(5)Larry B.
Fu Man is a takeout mecca! This place churns out Chinese dumplings faster (and better) than any place I've seen per square foot. It's a treat to see the grandma there whipping those delicious little dumplings out one-by-handmade-one. The tiny footprint of this place seems to hold no boundaries on its ability to feed an increasingly larger and more ravenous clientele. Just south of 145th on Greenwood Avenue, this place is dumpling heaven. Their wide variety of other Chinese dishes are well worth their modest prices as well. Only 8 or so tables, but takeout is the way I usually go with Fu Man.
(4)Anon Y.
Good food, great service ... unfortunately I'm going to have to point out the area where they receive an F, and that would cleanliness. There is food splatter on the walls... a thick layer of dust on the pictures... and several webs in between the speaker and the corner of the wall. You can tell this has been built up over time, and they have missed several years worth of spring cleanings. I can't even imagine what must be going on behind the scenes... Please clean up your business!!!
(2)Mags L.
I was really disappointed. We drove up here during a workday lunch (do not even make me explain the 40 minutes that was our confused drive) expecting to be blown away. Perhaps the food is good and the place had just been over-hyped, but I was just not that impressed.
(3)Trang M.
This hole in the wall joint was a place that my fiance has been hankering for. So on a day we both played hooky from work, I took him to a late lunch here. We arrived around 2:10. There was only one other person in there. We did this purposely to avoid the lunch crowd. The waiter/assuming owner was very friendly and accommodating. Though pretty standard Chinese style, he sat us down where HE wanted us to sit. LOL! I'm used to it, growing up in a predominately Viet/Chinese atmosphere. My fiance wanted me to order, but since he's the one that wanted to try this place SO bad I made him. His excuse was that I'm part Chinese so I better take over. Psh! Well I got my way and he ordered. We got, the 12 Boiled Dumplings, Green Onion Pancake, Pork Steam Buns, and Hot and Sour Soup. They were all very good. It did make me miss the dumpling houses in Cali though, but oh well. This will do for now. The soup was pretty unique, there was no bamboo, or wood ear mushroom like typical Hot and Sour soups. Also, the spiciness came from big dose of white pepper. Pretty good though for what it was. The Steam bun, was also good, I think my fiance was thinking it would be like Vietnamese Banh Bao, or Hum Bao. The Dumplings were pretty good, nice and fresh. The Green Onion Pancake was nice and thick and filling! The sauces at each table complimented each item nicely. LOL I do agree with Andy R. though, do take your significant other there or someone that you plan on seeing later. The chili sauce is PACKED with garlic . LOL! We came home with garlic on our breath the whole evening! It was fine with us, but we felt bad for others who came into our presence! LOL! Though the food does take some time before it gets to your table, it is worth the wait. The owner/waiter had to turn a couple back out the door because they arrived at 2:35, he said they could stay if they were getting take out. So word to the wise, if you're hungry around that time do take out or wait until they re-open again at 4:30.
(4)Kris L.
I heart Fu Man with a degree of fascination that actually borders on obsessive. Bring altoids with you! You're going to love the garlic sauce, but will need reinforcements after the fact in order to kiss your loved one. Don't say I didn't warn you!
(5)Rob F.
Known for their dumplings hard to miss in the title but the chow mein is the best I've ever tasted. The service is great and although it's a small space is a good family restaurant.
(5)Mariani A.
Finally got a chance to try this place after hearing about it from a coworker. I ordered the boiled dumplings, green onion pancakes and beef sandwich to go. Waited for about 25 minutes, as the stuffs were made to order. The dumplings did taste fresh and good, and the sauce was very garlicky. The garlic smell would stick in your mouth for the rest of the day :) The beef sandwich is beef, cucumber and cilantro wrapped in a crepe-like roll. It was refreshing. The green onion pancakes were a little thicker than typical, but still good. Overall, it was worth the wait and I would definitely come again for more homemade goodness. Update (5/5/2008): Have come here a few times, and always had good, fresh dumplings. Also loved their shrimp fried rice -- simple, but perfect execution :)
(4)Jill S.
The food at Fu Man Dumpling House is really good, and really consistent! The prices are good, too. The place is small, and the kitchen can be slow, but the wait staff is very attentive. They do a tremendous take-out business and I wish they did a better job of giving dining in customers a little more priority versus the take-out orders. Dinner tonight was great and portions seemed more generous than usual. But it also took a long time for our entire meal to be served--dishes were brought out one-by-one over the course of an hour. Still, the food is so good, I'm willing to overlook the bottleneck issues that the kitchen has when they're busy. Our favorites include fried dumplings, green onion pancake, Fu Man Special Chow Mein and Fu Man Special Fried Rice. And the Mapo Tofu is good, too. Whatever you do, do not park in the slots designated for the beer supply shop. They are mean and do not hesitate to have cars towed. There is always parking to the left and behind Fu Man.
(4)Suzanne O.
Oh, man the food is good here! Their bit of everything soup is phenomenal and their boiled dumplings are scrumptious, especially with their garlic sauce. The food is piping hot when it arrives and mouthwatering at the sight. We will eat there as often as we can. My only complaint is they do not give you water on your table unless you ask for it. That, i thought is odd. But, the food....absolutely delicious.
(5)Monica A.
I drive by this place everyday on my way to school and ive always been curious. So today I read the reviews and decided to give it a try. Its true, its a hole in the wall. Which im a fan of...however im a fan of vegetarian friendly holes in the wall. I attempted to order the Ma Po Tofu, but theres pork in it. So I went with what the waiter informed me was their only veggie entre, Assorted Veggies in Garlic sauce....hmm I thought. I felt flushed and just said "OK". I shouldnt have, the tofu was barelu cooked and the "assorted" veggies were cabbage, bok choy, squash and about 2 pieces of broccoli and maybe one or two carrots. Im not saying that they dont have good dumplings, im just saying its not a place for vegheads like myself.
(1)Misty S.
The dumplings were great, but what really put this over the top was the excellent quality of its fried rice, which had this distinct peppery flavor. It's great to get an old favorite, only to find that it is more excellent than you have ever expected. Green onion pancake was also very good. I would recommend this to anyone.
(5)Josh F.
Great, cheap food. That's what you go to Fu Man for. It's light on ambiance, parking, and staff friendliness. Get the dumplings, of course, but also try the green onion pancakes. Next time I'll pickup a ridiculously cheap of frozen dumplings to go.
(4)Bonnie H.
I very much enjoyed eating at Fu Man!! Unlike most of the Chinese restaurants that are Americanized, it is a rare precious Chinese place ! Their dumplings are great, fresh and homemade! Their sauce is even awesome; it probably has garlic, ginger and some other stuff in it. But you'd not fully comprehend its wonderful flavor until you really try it! They have unique Chinese hamburgers that I've never seen anywhere else in Seattle, yet they still remain pretty authentic! Another dish worth trying is their beef sandwich. Again, you probably have no chance of having it at any other places. Other dishes besides dumplings were surprisingly good, too. I had some Ma Pao Tofu and a house special fried rice. To my picky Chinese tongue, they were very satisfying--and qualified. You can also buy some frozen dumplings to go. The price is around 15 dollars for 50 dumplings. And they will give you lots of sauce to go with them! It's indeed a great great deal.
(5)Charles D.
I liked the dumplings. They are quite good and tasty. Key word "fresh". They are made from scratch. No shortcuts. Very good place. I don't go there much because we usually make our dumplings at home.
(4)Olga M.
Boiled dumplings - yes, yum! Pan fried dumplings - twice the size as the boiled ones and good too. Beware that the garlic sauce is tres garlicky - everyone must imbibe or else it's game over for the non-partakers. The leek pancakes were not so great - they were deep fried for one thing. And they had a filling of broken rice noodles, leeks, wood-ear mushrooms. Too oily and thick for my liking. We loved the Fu Man special noodles. Seaweed salad was great too with little bits of pickled ginger and stips of cilantro gracing the salad.
(4)Tiffany S.
We have just moved to the area and picked up dumplings to go here. They travelled well and were delicious. We only tried the steamed dumplings, not fried, but we'll be back!
(4)swine f.
the best dumplings i've had in seattle. garlic sauce is bomb. ive been slowly working my way thru the menu over the years and the only thing gross has been the pork jelly, wonton soup is fantastic, you can tell someone is full of shit when they say that judy fu's dumplings are better than the fu man's
(5)Mitch M.
Great Pot Stickers. Great steamed dumplings. Not so keen on the "Hamburger" which was like a giant fried pot sticker. Service was good. Place is small but it seems clean and the food is really good. Next time the Onion or Leek Pancakes are on the list for sure!
(4)Marta L.
I was prepared to like this place, but found the food so-so. The mixed veggies were tasty and the dumplings were definitely fresh, but lacking a bit in flavor. The garlic sauce is delicious and improves everything it touches, but I wish the dumplings (we got the boiled) were not in need of so much improvement. The pork buns were the same - not very flavorful. The service, however, was excellent.
(3)ColorBlind B.
My friend took me here for a birthday lunch. They were raving the whole way about how amazing the dumplings and garlic sauce were. It did not disappoint. Awesome food, decent price and fast friendly service.
(4)Drew G.
I know I know, "only 2 stars? But this place is great!" Well my experiences have to disagree. I read raving reviews in the papers. The stranger, Shoreline weekly, anything, they all said it was worth a try. My parents even recommended it. I ordered the dumplings, assuming the namesake of the place had to be the best dish, and was disappointed by bland doughy balls of flavorlessness. So on a last ditch effort, I got the pork burger. maybe the odd food is better? Not so much. It was like trying to keep sand in a strainer how all the minced pork pieces and veggies fell out. there was no flavoring and again, in near tears of hunger, i was let down. Not that I wouldn't try it again for a second chance, my first experience here was just such a let down that i would need a friend(?) to drag me there and pay for it.
(2)Matt L.
Food was delicious - clean and simple (in the good way). Dumplings lived up to the billing, as did the chow mien. Service was quick and friendly. Many of the reviews I've read are...complicated. This place isn't complicated. Delicious food that delivers on value, small & unpretentious setting. As a matter of fact - I want to grab some friends the next time I go and get a little sideways at the Thundercats bar next door. We'll be going back & ordering take out - alot. Paseo's is to sandwich as Fu Man is to dumplings.
(4)Debosmit R.
This is not a place where you expect a fancy meal. But a tasty meal? Yes, Fu man Dumpling House is the place to go. Delectable dumplings. Proof? I have this friend, Tao, from the northern part of China. He said they had the best dumplings in Seattle. I think that did it for me. The dumplings were amazing. Juicy, fresh, steaming hot. Served with this garlic-ey soy sauce (which they are about to sell bottled). Given that you will probably love this place. If you call in advance (a day or two), you can ask them to pack some frozen dumplings for you. Really doesn't compare to any other place in Seattle. This is coming from someone who visits China town every fortnight, and used to adore Din Tai Fung.
(5)Paul W.
Go for the food and service, not the decor. This place has great food and acceptional service. We ordered fried rice, boiled dumplings, and "a little bit of everything" soup, and it was all amazing. My only constructive criticisms would be to provide bigger bowls with soups (the soup spoons barely fit in the bowls they provide), and to increase the variety of sauces on the table for the dumplings.
(5)Jamie R.
The man and I really enjoyed this little hole in the wall. The pan fried dumplings were crispy and tasty, and the steamed dumplings were also quite delicious. We also had the dumpling hot and sour soup which was totally legit if you are a hot and sour fan. As previous reviewers mentioned the service is super friendly and efficient. You can also call ahead a day in advance and order frozen dumplings so you can enjoy them at home whenever you want! Next time I'd like to try the chow mein.
(4)Chris D.
Fu Man is that hole in the wall joint you stop off at because you're headed up north and need some dumplings in your belly to fuel the journey. Destination joint? Probably not... but I thoroughly enjoyed the pork buns, noodle soup, and... especially... the green onion pancake. I ate that things as cold leftovers behind the driver seat on a four day road trip around the Olympic Peninsula and it was fantastic. The staff is a little casual for my liking, so maybe it was destined to be road trip food from the start.
(4)Stephen H.
Food, service, $$$? Excellent, excellent, excellent. Everything was very, very fresh and delicious, service was super attentive and friendly, and it was $30 for two of us to eat 12 dumplings, shrimp and chicken fried rice, and a huge plate of stir-fried vegetables. Just go, it's great. It's small though, and packed the whole time we were there!
(5)Kim G.
This is your typical hole in the wall joint with horrible decor and overly bright florescent lighting, but once you get your food, it all becomes irrelevant. The homemade garlic sauce alone that goes on EVERYTHING makes life worth while. The service is good, the staff are super nice and the dumplings are delectable. You must try the green onion pancake, just order it first, since it's handmade to order, it takes an extra 20 mins. This place doesn't look aesthetically appealing at all from the outside or the inside, but the darn good food is the only reason you're there!
(5)shami s.
The dumplings are superb! Service is superior!! Love this please go there! Very authentic and fresh the noodles are amazing!
(5)jeniffer a.
Bad decor, dirty menus, over priced, bland food. Ordered the steamed pork dumplings, the dough was chewy, the filling flavorless and there was a black hair on one of the dumplings.
(2)Walker L.
Hilarious staff great food. First dumplings I had ever had. definitely coming back to this place.
(5)Nathan S.
Food is a 3/5. Service is a 5/5. Fu Man is WAY down Greenwood Avenue in the Bitter Lake neighborhood. It is a small building that is very easy to miss. The parking is a little complicated, so be prepared. Upon entering, I was immediately attended to by the proprietor(?) or someone operating the front of the house, seating guests, taking orders, delivering food, refilling water, etc. I imagined this person being Asian, but it was just some random white dude! Haha. Is that racist or just a stereotype? Anyway, whoever he is the guy is awesome. This was the best service I have ever had. Want extra broccoli? No problem. Extra rice? Have two. Want some extra napkins before you even need extra napkins? Um....sure.... His psychic powers are obviously well-attuned to your every want and need. Okay, now, the food is actually pretty good, but I made the mistake of ordering too much of, basically, the same thing. I ordered some pork buns, dumplings, and potstickers, but had no idea that they use the same filling for all of these items. I was, essentially, eating the same thing, just prepared differently. After a while, the same overall textures and the flavors began to make me nauseous, which prevented me from enjoying more of my meal. In the end, we had them box up a bunch of food which I then gave to some homeless people in Fremont. I had a pretty good experience at Fu Man Dumpling House, but don't order too much of the same thing because it can add up. I think our meal came to $52.00. I recommend you stop by at least once, because it really is a great, little place.
(4)Susan L.
They have the best green onion pancakes I've ever tasted! And their garlic dipping sauce is amazing! I don't even care that I still taste it the next morning. I love this place! It is very small so we always get take out.
(5)Katie S.
I really like the food, it is always delicious and the dipping sauce for the dumplings is fantastic. I have never eaten in and have always taken it to go as the space is super small.
(4)Nicole L.
I came here because my friend recommended it ! It turns out super nice ! Taste delicious and authentic! I'll definitely come here more often and the staff is friendly and nice! If you want to have a authentic dumpling you need to come here and try their hot and sour soup with dumpling ! Their hot and sour soup isn't too hot nor too sour, it's right on spot! Plus, the portion is really big!
(5)Mr. L.
Stellar steamed dumplings. Savory, rich, delicate...perfect dumplings. I haven't tried enough of the rest of the menu to be able to definitively say it's a 5-star place, but the service was so welcoming, and just every bite of these dumplings blew me away, down to the last one. Update: the dumplings are so inconceivably good it doesn't matter what else is on the menu. 5-stars, all the damn way!
(5)Sara M.
I just ate here and it was so good! It took me right back to China and the great food I ate there. I LOVE jiao zi!! The only reason it's getting a 4 is because there's hardly any room in there... But don't let that keep you from going in! Great service, fast and friendly.
(4)Johnnynumberfive A.
Service was phenomenal, always engaging and genuine. A great experience, food had great flavor and balance. Garlic sauce is unreal and not overwhelming, don't use sparingly. Two large dishes for two for $20 including tax and leftovers for next day. Can't beat it, simply hit the spot. Dumplings are $$$ don't listen those who compare them to the frozen grocery variety not even close (laughable) they are huge, fresh, and meaty too. So the place is small who cares, the best spots are, and it's well worth the wait just give it a shot. If I lived close I'd eat there at least once a week (takeout included if in a rush) and would be proud to call it my neighborhood joint. I'd go back regularly given the service experience alone because few places offer half that level at best. Just... Go.
(5)Ally-Marie B.
I wish I had a second and third stomach just so I could keep eating their food. Although it is starchy, everything was tasty and left me wanting MORE!!!! Service was friendly and quick! They allowed enough time between our dishes to enjoy each one. One star is deducted only because of how small and hot the place is. Kinda muggy, my boyfriend overheated a bit. #1 Hot tea and small appetizer was free: I love free stuff. #2 Hot and Sour soup: nice balance and I like the amount of egg they put in it. Some of the best I've had and adding a bit of the table-side chilli kicks it up a notch. #3 Boiled Dumplings: great with the table-side hoisen and chili sauce and the pork was perfect. (There was a vegetarian at another table: they DO NOT offer a vegetarian option) #4 Green Onion Pancake: as mentioned in other reviews, this dish is LARGE and starchy. BUT incredibly tasty. I ate the rest when we got home. I'm going to come here again and AGAIN!!!! (Did not post pictures because they are already repeated on other reviews)
(4)Emelia H.
I've ordered takeout from Fu Man dumpling house twice. Each time their staff has been courteous and the food pretty decent. The dumplings, however, are delicious!!! The best part is, with at least 1-2 days notice, you can call ahead and order frozen dumplings. I LOVE having frozen dumplings on hand for a quick meal! I just start them in boiling water for 10 min and then pan fry them for a few minutes until golden brown, and voila! Restaurant quality dumplings in the comfort of my home and pajamas!
(4)Lulu G.
The steamed dumplings were divine, especially accompanied with the house garlic sauce. I may smell like garlic for days but I will remember the food and all is ok. The onion pancake is much thicker than I have ever had. Only one is large one is served-cut up into pizza-like wedges. Even so it was great. The atmosphere is nothing great which is why I did not give it 5 stars. Price is very reasonable. Go, eat up and enjoy. We sure did.
(4)Quinn D.
Dumplings, good. Chicken, terrible; dry, chewy, over salted. After reading about Fu Man Dumplings from the pages of Seattle mag., we waited outside the cafe before they even opened for dinner! Service was excellent.
(2)John S.
I've been coming in here a lot...sometime twice in one day! I appreciate the handmade food that Fu Man has to offer. Their dumpling is sooooooo good! Pork and vegetable mixed, big dumplings and the skin is just right! Not too thick and not to thin. And of course you can't go wrong with their garlicky garlic sauce! I pour that sauce just on about everything! The staff here is great! Professional and friendly! My water is never below half. I met the owner of this place...(Chi?) sorry if I spelled your name wrong! Chi and his parents owned this place for more than eight years, wow. He mentioned that Ming, who is his uncle that use to work in the front was a manager. I'm glad he told me this because I always thought he was the owner...oops! The owners are usually in the kitchen to handmade everything and that's why you don't get to see them up front. Keep going strong Chi. I'm excited to come back for more!!! Oh, one last thing...I guess they are closed on Tuesday for now until one of their chef comes back from China. Heard that his mother passed away and Chi's family gave the chef time off to take care of his family business. Thanks again Chi!
(5)Brandi L.
The boiled dumplings and steamed bun are far from authentic. They a comparable to the frozen ones you get at the store. I really try to root for small family places like this, but unfortunately the food is uninspired and just not that fresh. There were 3 of us and the waiter only brought out 1 water for some reason. AND the water was luke warm with (literally) two ice cubes in it.
(2)Rachel C.
After spending the morning running errands in North Seattle, my husband and I were starving. I opened up the Yelp app, saw the word "dumplings" and I was sold. We parked in the back, behind the restaurant. Plenty of spaces at noon on a Friday. Once inside, we were greeted by possibly the friendliest restaurant manager ever. He seated us immediately and brought over hot tea and ice water. We ordered: hot and sour soup, wonton soup, seaweed with garlic, boiled dumplings, and steamed pork buns. The food was good but the steamed pork buns were the best by far. They come 5 to an order but after inhaling most of the rest of our food, we could only finish a few. I heard a woman at one of the tables behind me raving about the garlic sauce. I figured she was talking about the glass jar of dark sauce on the table so I tentatively tried a spoonful over a bite of dumpling. Oh wow. Insanely good. Intensely garlicky. There was a confusing moment where the waiter brought out my husband's wonton soup, left, and then rushed back a few minutes later with a second bowl of wonton soup, saying that the first bowl had no meat in the wonton wrappers. It was kind of a funny mistake and not a problem at all. The restaurant is pretty much a hole-in-the-wall place, but the food is remarkable, the garlic sauce is amazing, and the service is top-notch.
(5)Emily L.
Service was a 5/5 Food is a 4/5. The two gentleman running the front of the house was attentive to everyone and a gentleman. Their potstickers are excellent! A nice level of crispiness and saltiness. It goes so well with their garlic soy sauce!
(4)Monica B.
I go here for dumplings! Big surprise. Despite the fact that I live literally within walking distance, it wasn't until earlier this year that I tried it out. I like the dumplings but will only eat them when they are fresh. My love of garlic is a match made in heaven and be damned anyone that has to smell my breath or it seeping through my pores. I decided against posting a picture of the dumplings because they look just like they do in other pictures. It's a small space so I often call in my order and pick it up. Aside from dumplings, I've also tried the BBQ fried rice and green onion pancake. The fried rice was okay. The pancake is a bit too thick for my liking but still okay. The dumplings satisfy my cravings and the location is very convenient for me so...I'm a fan!
(4)greg c.
Boiled dumplings. Wow. Wish it was closer to me. Delicious. Had to ask for red vinegar but that's ok. I'll be back!!
(5)Dembe N.
Had cravings for some great hamburgers search on Yelp and this place pops up with great reviews. Looked some pics and those fried dumplings looked so good my cravings for burger disappeared. Went there around 11:40AM place looked simple nothing special but warm and friendly. Place was empty when I have arrived but filled up around noon. The guy at the counter greeted very nice customer service, other people were picking up orders and the guy called them by their names and chatty with them , thought regulars. Forgot to ask the guys name, if you reading this man, will definitely introduce my self and ask your name next time around cause I'll be back :) Ordered fried dumplings and spicy/sour dumpling soup. Fried dumplings: they are big and juicy - deliciousness. Sour/spicy dumpling soup - just perfect. It is like home made restaurant food. Would recommend, do not expect fancy place it is just a mom and pap joint that serves good food. Lunch costed me $19.21 + $3 tip. Would go back soon and have something different on the menu.

I was originally thinking I would give this place 3 stars when the food came out. But then I tasted the food and decided 2 stars would be more accurate. To begin with, the 6 pan fried dumplings for $8.35 was way too expensive. When I took a bite out of one, I wondered if it was actually pan fried or if they had deep fried it. It was soaked in oil and soggy because of that. Plus the filling really wasn't all that good. Next was the 12 boiled dumplings. I was thinking 2 stars at this point, but then I counted and they only have us 11 dumplings rather than 12. Lastly, the mapo tofu is completely Americanized. It was sweet. Totally and completely sweet and tastewise had no resemblance to the actual dish. Plus no rice? Who would eat mapo tofu by itself?? The dish is meant to be eaten with rice! I ate a few bites and decided to take it home because I had rice to eat with it. Overall, I decided before even finishing the food that I wouldn't come back again. The prices are way too high for the portions, the taste is possibly the worst in terms of authenticity that I have ever had, and the fact that everything was drowned in oil just killed the entire meal for me.

We just moved to the area and we are SO HAPPY that Fu Man Dumpling House is in our new neighborhood! By far my favorites are the dumplings...they are perfect! I also cant get enough of the chow mein. We usually get the Fu Man Special Chow Mein and it is delicious. The staff is also super friendly and always make me fell welcome in their restaurant! Whoohoo! As good as it gets!
(5)Don E.
All I can say what a pleasant surprise. Food was excellent, and service was very attentive. I will be returning!

Some complaints here about Fu Manbeing closed at off hours or with no warning might be because it's a small family-run affair. It's only about 10 tables so on busy, rainy nights it can be cramped. The staff is small, very gracious, very kind and can help you if you don't know what to order or how much to order. You can see the dumplings being made through the kitchen window. Hot and sour soup is wonderful and you can get it with dumplings in it. Boiled dumplings are what they're known for and they're delicious. Very garlicky hoisin-based sauce and chili paste are on the table, so good. Green onion pancake is gluteny goodness, I love it. Hamburgers are good (meat filling in baked bun). Appetizers are always tasty. Please go if you haven't already!
(4)Vin U.
We order #4 Pan Fried Dumping, #6 Pork Hamburger and #17 Everything noodle soup. #4 Pan Fried Dumping was NOT PAN FRIED AT ALL. Its good if you like DEEP Fried Dumping with hot grease/meat juice dripping down as you bite it. --$8ish for 6 (kinda pricey) #6 Pork Hamburger~ Nice thick juicy meat patties but the breading isn't crunchy at all. (its warm and soft) #17 Egg flower soup with noodles with EVERYTHING ( MUSHROOM, SHRIMP, broccoli) ~ taste like egg flower soup with big portion to share for 2. Food was OK. Service was Great, water/tea is always fill.

Stumbled upon this place. It's such a gem! The family who owns this place is awesome! They are so friendly and genuinely want to feed people good home cooking. Everything is made from scratch! They are known for their dumplings and it sooo good. Everything had really good flavors and even the soup had a lot of stuff in it and not the usual cheap places where mainly is just water down soup. I would come here any time I'm up here!
(5)Jessica F.
The food and service are excellent! I dined family style with a group of friends. We ordered a mountain of food...dumplings, fried rice, chow mein, hot and sour soup, and potstickers. I was all so good I kept shoveling it in well after I was full. I will be back, so glad it's in my neighborhood!
(5)Auntie L.
Good dumpling and chicken with good price and nice people who work there, the place very small, a little smelly, if you go Sunday wow is pack, you need to wait outside the door and if they call you and you not there they will skip you asap.

I was extremely excited to try this dumpling house and thought it was going to be THE ONE! Sadly, I was let down due to my high dumpling standards. Very small restaurant that could fit no more than 30 people. We were lucky enough to have come early enough on a Friday evening before two other couples. We ordered the basic protocol of any dumpling house: fried pork dumplings and a green onion pancake with a side of cha siu noodles and pork burgers. Pork Dumplings -- Pretty good, crispy and big portions. This would probably be the only thing I would order here again. Green Onion Pancake -- Uhh... whatt. This is not your typical thin crispy pancake. It was pretty darn thick and just not enjoyable :( Cha Siu Noodles -- This was also a big let down. It sounded really good and we wanted something to mix with their famous garlic sauce. It was cooked with wayyyyy too much salt! There was no way I could finish this without stopping every bite for water... Pork Burgers -- Meh, it sounded interesting but all it really is is a huge disc shaped dumpling with a tough skin. I appreciate that they make their own dumplings but the batter and wrappers could use work :/ Service here is great and they welcomed our criticism. I'm just really hoping that we came on an off day and the food will be a lot tastier next time we want fried dumplings.

Tried this restaurant on a recommendation from my family, there where a few items on the menu that they where out of or did not have any more so i did not get to try everything, but i did order almost every different type of item available. Dumplings where good, but the filling was kind of bland and seemed to be the same in different types of dumplings. The fried rice was good, but that's not why we came there. The pancakes where good but nothing great. Restaurant is VERY small, maybe sat 20ish total so not a good place for large groups and parties. Was a good wait outside when we showed up but turn over was pretty quick.

Comfort food, yum yum yummy () noodle soup is a perfect choice in seattle cold rainy winter night.
(4)Chadd S.
We first tried Fu Man based on its high rating on Yelp, and it definitely lived up to expectations! The staff is courteous and the dumplings are delicious. The Hot and Sour soup is also the best we've ever had. Highly recommended.
(5)Shane C.
Garlic Sauce... to me it tastes like they combined carmelized garlic, with roasted garlic, with a bit of raw garlic to get a depth of flavor that I quite enjoyed. Part of me wanted to drink it, but I resisted the urge. Anyway, the dumplings were great, and I definitely crave their food once every couple months.
(5)Jim P.
I have been wanting to try this place for the longest! Finally had a chance. The restaurant is very small but we noted there were many people eating here of Asian descent (always a good sign). The service was great, and the food came out quickly. We basically ordered the no brainers, pork fried rice, chow mein, green onion pancakes, pot stickers. All were piping hot and delicious. Next time we will try something more... "exotic". Portions were large. Try it!
(4)Jake M.
I have been going here for years! Love this place. From apps to full meals. This place is great. Family owned and ran. Staff is super nice and makes you feel like your part of the family
(5)Andrew W.
This little hole in the wall restaurant is a dirty little secret!!! The food is so authentic and the owner is super cool! Plus they are die hard Hawks Fans!!! Great value for super taste!!!
(5)Alonso T.
Where do I start! We came as a small group and ate family style to sample as much as possible. HERE WE GO Fried Rice- ON POINT Dumplings- ON POINT Hot and Sour Soup- ON POINT Chicken chow mein- ON POINT The staff was also so friendly and welcoming. All in all this place was just what I was looking for to satisfy my craving before leaving town. Will definitely have to point people this way!
(5)Ken T.
One of my new fave restaurants in Seattle! Owner is EXTREMELY friendly and accommodating. Food is pretty fantastic, but the service is what makes me want to come back! Dumplings, pancake, and chow mein were all on point.
(5)Shalom B.
Well, I heard amazing things about the food here... Only I didn't get to try it because it was closed.. family emergency. Which is understandable ! However, I still did not get to eat. I'll change my rating once I try their food.
(1)James W.
Been here numbers of time, always been good. 1st time back in 3 months. Quality definitely want down hill, order the hot & sour soup today no slice pork at all, not even 1 piece. I remember generous portions of slice pork from pervious visits. The Fu Man steam pork buns out of 5 pieces 3 skins were crack open, pork buns were flat not fluffy & full. We were the 1st customers in there today at 11 am. Could they be giving us the leftovers from yesterday, definitely were not happy with the food today. We told the owner at the counter he didn't even bother coming over to our table....SMH

Fu Man is sooo good. I have a new comfort food favorite. The garlic sauce is no joke. Last time I went I was suffering all night and even the next morning. Good thing I was alone. The good news if you're with someone else they're likely partaking, too so you can be insufferable together. You get 12 dumplings for $8-9 and they are sizable. The sweet and sour soup is tasty. The employees are nice. I really enjoy the food here. It's a hole in the wall so don't expect anything fancy. 12 dumplings is plenty for 2 people if you order some side dishes to go along with. There's plenty of parking in the back so don't be deterred. Love it!
(5)Jessica W.
While visiting Seattle, my sister and I decided to stop in for lunch. We decided to take our food to go. 12 dumplings come in an order, it seemed like a lot to us so I asked the waitress if they had anything smaller...She recommended that we order a soup because the dumplings come on the side and you only get 6. Perfect recommendation because we got less dumplings but also some soup to enjoy. We ordered the Hot and Sour Soup and the Fu Man Pork Steamed Buns. The dumplings that came with the soup was good, very gingery. I did not prefer the pork steamed buns which were basically bigger, thicker dumplings. The best part was the hot and sour soup. I would go back just for the hot and sour soup. The only downfall was that the waitress wouldn't give us any of the side dishes that accompany the meal if we were to dine in, I even offered to pay for it and got denied.

This was the first time I been to this Restaurant. We order 12 dumplings, vegetable tofu, fu man special chow mein and won ton soup. First thing is that alot of this kind of restaurants that most people live around this neighborhood never really venture out of their comfort zones. This wasn't too bad. I can taste the cooking style and they have many flavors, lack of the authentic. The won ton soup was pretty the same old American Chinese food around these areas. Alot of mix veggies and won ton didn't have any shrimp in them. The fu man special chow mein was tasty nut I bit into a stable which probably is by accident. The veggies tofu was too salty. Them dumplings were better that I thought they were going to be. Overall it wasn't too bad. I do wish the portion would have been larger for the price.
(2)Jonas C.
It's about the dumplings. For those that don't appreciate the homemade goodness of the skin and the quality of the stuff inside; you don't know dumplings. The main knock is that it's small and gets crowded really fast, so you either have to be lucky or take out for the smallest amount of wait time. It's always a plus when the servers all have personality too. Not only do I recommend the garlic sauce but the hot sauce has a nice tangy zest to it as well. Good stuff. It's a good place to go for solid Asian eats. Some of the stuff is kind of Americanized, but overall, it's good stuff. As a note, since they are known for their dumplings, I'd recommend anything that has a skin on it and/or scallion pancakes, since that would likely be homemade too. Maybe they use the same stuff and prep it differently, but hey, if it works. Just make sure you wear something you don't mind smelling like garlic until your next laundry day.
(4)Emily D.
No. This did not work for me. I don't know - maybe I'm just not a fan of Chinese in general, but Fu Man Dumpling House definitely fell into into the BFE (Bad Food Experience) realm for me. We ordered simply enough - dumplings, pork buns, and special fried rice. The dumplings were okay. They are huge which is a bonus, but they're so mushy. Same with the pork buns. I was having definite texture issues. And the rice is fine as well, but it's SO greasy that I can literally still feel it coating my mouth and my throat 12 hours and 2 popsicles later. Yeah, that garlic sauce is pretty freaking good though. Overall, it was all just too mushy, too bland, and too blah to be delicious. Pass.
(2)Carolyn S.
The garlic sauce on the tables here is over-the-top delicious! Only problem is that it's so good you could drink it. Heaven help you if you go without your significan other! Your breath will tell on you the next day. Their homemade dumplings are the star of the show, but we also love the chow mein and the green onion pancake. Biggest drawback with this place is that space is limited. If they're open, they're busy.
(4)Lisa N.
Fu Man is kind of small and crowded, hard to find if you don't know it's there, and sandwiched between two gas stations on Greenwood Ave. Not exactly a recipe for good dumplings, but somehow they make it work! I came with Nina H. for lunch and we decided to try the green onion pancake, a dozen dumplings and a large bowl of hot & sour soup to share (we ordered these separately-- there's also an option to get an individual bowl of soup with six dumplings, but they put the dumplings *in* the soup which we didn't want). I wasn't a huge fan of the pancake-- it was thicker than I expected and a lot chewier because of it. The flavour was alright; typical green onion pancake flavour, but it was just too filling for my liking. The dumplings were large and doughy and filled with warm, meaty, juicy goodness. I'm kind of a purist so I don't put any of the sauce on, but even without it they were wonderful. The soup was pretty good, although I wouldn't necessarily call it noteworthy when put up against other hot & sours that I've had. Some other tables had ordered noodles which looked thick and delicious, but between the two of us we were full off of our order so that'll have to be tried next time! Prices are very reasonable, especially because the quality of the food is good. I recommend getting takeout so you can enjoy it in the assumingly more spacious comfort of your own home!
(4)Courtney P.
Great dumplings. Possibly 5 stars but they did not have pork buns, but I will be back.
(4)Jennifer P.
My friend brought some leftover Fu Man dumplings to our house a couple months ago, and I've been craving them ever since. Today I FINALLY got there on my own. I walked in for take out without calling ahead and my dumplings were done in 10 minutes, despite the fact that it was quite busy (at 1:00pm!). I got my food home, saw that they'd included a cup of soup (sweet!) and dug in. Full disclosure: I just ate 12 of their dumplings (it's the standard "smallish" order) all by myself, so I might be kind of dumpling-high right now. But OH MAN. They are all juicy and fresh and savory and the dipping sauce is good enough to drink and I just couldn't stop. I love this place. Dumplings are my new jam.
(5)Jim W.
The pot stickers are amazing. Words can't describe the joy. And the garlic soy sauce -- - the subsequent bad breath is worth it.
(5)Sameer K.
Got take-out here Sunday night: homemade dumplings and ma po tofu. Great food- loved it, and enough for dinner the next night. I appreciate everything being made in house and fresh. The only thing I was surprised about was that they did not give us rice for the tofu dish. Polite staff, and quick as they can while keeping things fresh. Small dining area, but pleasant. They do like to get out on time, so make sure you get there before a half hour before closing if you want to sit.
(5)Sunny L.
My advice: check to make sure they are open before going there! I had been wanting to try this place for a while based on a friend's recommendation, but they were closed the first two times I went there. First time was around Christmas time and they were closed for a week. Second time was a few days after Valentine's day and they were closed for a few days before and after the holiday. Third time's the charm though! We ordered boiled dumplings, scallion pancakes, steamed buns, special fried rice, and special chow mein. I didn't think the boiled dumplings were anything special, but I've been spoiled by my parents' homemade dumplings. The scallion pancakes were delicious though! I could eat those all day. The steamed buns were pretty good as well, and it was obvious they were fresh out of the steamer because two of my friends burned their tongues when biting into it. The fried rice and chow mein were good as well, but not much different than what you would get at most other Chinese restaurants. The prices are very reasonable and you can probably get out of there for less than $12 a person. Make sure you get there at least half an hour before they close or you will only have the option of ordering take out. We saw two groups get turned away because they arrived too late.

When I moved to Shoreline, a few friends came over to help me paint my new place. Thoughtful and fabulous people that they are: they brought takeout. Cue my first experience with Fu Man. Maybe it was the paint fumes or the crazy amount of work we did, but those dumplings really hit the spot. After that, I took some other friends there as a "thank you" for helping with other parts of my place. We were blown away. We ate like kings and paid like paupers. This is not a huge place, and there are some things you definitely have to keep in mind: The place is small, and is not great for large groups. Try not to go with more than four people, or prepare for a wait. Yes, their hours are posted on the door, but keep in mind that they COMPLETELY CLOSE at the time specified. It is not that the kitchen is closing. If you come in less than or at 30 minutes to closing: they will probably do a takeout order for you, but you probably won't be sitting and eating there. This is a Taiwanese establishment with food from that region. Please do not ask why they don't serve: sushi, yakisoba, General Tso's chicken, or (insert Asian food here). I've actually watched people ask those questions, and then state, rather indignantly: "But those foods taste good!". Just don't ask. Please. Pretty please? Other than that: you really cannot go wrong. The green onion pancakes are quite good...but they really shine the next day. Make sure to order enough to take some home. I find that cutting the garlic sauce with regular soy can be quite nice. The spinach tofu soup tends to have more complex of a flavor than you would first expect. Personally: pan fried dumplings beat out the steamed dumplings. Happy eating!

My friend and I were hungry for something tasty and filling but would not be a wallet-hemorrhaging experience. And so we checked out Fu Man Dumpling House after hearing a few good things about it. And it definitely fit the bill for what we wanted. The pot stickers are pump and juicy with a perfectly crunchy pan-fried bottom crust. It's a more homestyle food but that's great for what we were looking for. On a scale of divey to fine dining, the decor was on the divey side. Florescent lighting, awkward table and chair combinations and a smaller-sized dining room than what their apparent popularity deserves all add to the dive-feel. But! The food makes it worth it. I'm mentioning it here, though, for those that decor details like this matter. It is cramped inside. And I can imagine it being frustrating when they're really busy. We were there at nearly 8 in the evening on a Sunday and the place was full the entire time. If a cramped dining experience would turn you off to visiting, I would suggest ordering it as take-out, which I saw many people doing while there. I recommend the potstickers and the green onion pancake. The pork buns were good but I was more in the mood for a char sui style bun and not what they were, so while they were tasty, I was a bit disappointed in them. A major plus though, was the tea-- very very good tea. It was nearly perfectly brewed and hot. I will definitely be returning to Fu Man Dumpling House in the future, as well as recommending it to others.
(4)Ashley O.
I am still feeling the aftermath of the garlic soy sauce (it's been one day and five teeth brushing episodes since I first tasted the addicting concoction). Five stars for the sauce, two for the chow mein (nothing special), and four for the dumplings (had the boiled). Can't wait to try the potstickers...they are HUGE and looked amazing. They must be working on improving their service, because everyone was super attentive and awesome.
(4)Lisa T.
Tried this place for the first time on 3/4/11. Parking can be a little tough - but we got lucky. It's not a fancy place and a couple important things to note: 1) there's always a line and there's NO waitlist. It's sort of the honor system. The restaurant is REALLY small with not that many tables...so if you are waiting, you'll most likely be waiting outside. But make sure you tell someone you are waiting. 2) If you are going for dinner - eating in, you MUST get there before 8:30pm. Otherwise, your only option is take out. When we were there - a family came in at 8:35pm - and were rejected. They'd even driven 45 minutes to get there...but sorry! Don't eat here if you are looking for great service. Sure, they are friendly enough, but it's not upscale food here. But it is good and everything is reasonably priced. We were a group of 6 so we got to order a bunch of things and still came to around $12/person (including tip and leftovers). Dumplings - delicious. They come in 12 or 24. I recommend 24 b/c they make great leftovers. They are really great with their homemade garlic sauce - I put that stuff on everything, but you'll have major garlic breath afterwards. Also got the chow mein, and the noodles were really delicious - I think homemade. They were out of the chicken (which I hear is really good and garlicky). Fried rice is decent, but not all that special. The scallion pancake is really thick...so nothing like a Korean pancake, but I enjoyed the flavor and the doughiness of it. Also had the steamed buns which were average, but delicious when dipped in the garlic sauce. I'd definitely go back, but with our party of 6 - we got lucky to have gotten a table. Better for smaller parties.

150 reviews for Fu Man, wow, that's impressive, and most of them are pretty encouraging. With that in hand, we headed out to try their dumplings. Tiny place, with about half a dozen tables squeezed in, and chilly, with the door right there. Staff were very friendly, but how were the dumplings? Well, first, there's only one type of dumpling on the menu-- vegetable/pork. I found that a bit disconcerting, for a "dumpling house". The dumplings themselves were ok. I honestly felt they were similar to the ones you get at costco, although my wife liked them better than that (hence the 3 stars). All in all pretty disappointing, but not necessarily bad. I may go back if we're really craving dumplings and don't want to throw some in the pot at home.
(3)Randi R.
So fresh. So good. So kind. You must have everything on the menu!!!
(5)Jason G.
Staff are not always the friendliest but the make up for it with delicious food. We usually get the boiled dumplings, Fu-Man Special Fried Rice, and Green Onion pancakes. We have also tried and been impressed with the soup, leak pancakes, and fried dumplings. As mentioned, the garlic sauce is amazing and will stay with you for 48-72 hours.
(5)Michael G.
Funny thing about reviews; no one mentioned you should show up well in advance of the 9PM close if you want to be served. We showed at 825 and we were told "no service, take out only". Business must be so good he'd rather close on time than serve. He didn't even ask what we wanted (which was 2 soups and some dumplings). Don't think I'll make the attempt again. I was looking forward to the experience, based on Yelpers, but hospitality is part of the experience, and they have none.
(1)Jamie U.
Fu Man, OH man! Great place for a mid day snack or lunch with no MSG tummy ache and money to spare. I think I've tried everything on the menu. the dumplings are made fresh to order. Look through the widow they have to the kitchen, you'll see. Soups are great. Don't order dumplings, pancakes, and humbows in one sitting. They all pretty much the same in different forms. Also, beware the the sauce on the table. Its pure mashed garlic and soy sauce. Delish, but, becareful. You can keep vampires away after eating to much of this.
(4)Michael J.
I want to start this review off by saying I love dumplings... With that being said I'll try not let my bias get in the way of this review. Fu Man is great because you can't make this food at home and everything taste like its made from scratch here. The noodles in the Chow mien are thick and amazing. Come with an appetite because you'll want to try everything. It's all good. If there is one thing wrong with this place it's the size... it's tiny. But I'm still going to give it a 5 because the food is a 10 out of 5. O yeah and I hope you like garlic because they have a dipping sauce that is so amazing that you're wife won't kiss you for a week.
(5)Jennifer O.
I do not understand all of the super high ratings for this place. The dumplings were just not very good when I went. The sauce they have for them is super salty and the noodle is way too thick and chewy. If you like the common dumplings that are usually served in restaurants, these are not the same. They are huge and have a lot of meat in them and a super doughy noodle. I had the potstickers and the wonton soup. The pot stickers were not so good and I was so surprised because the wonton soup had a potsticker in it! not a wonton. It was such a weird texture for a soup. Also, we got some noodles with beef and those were flavorless and just not good. Maybe it is just not my thing, but I was excited to go here and was very let down.
(2)J C.
Amazing dumplings. Only issue is they run out. Call ahead as it takes about 20-25 minutes. It isn't a pop in and out place.
(4)Wyatt H.
Best Dumplings in Seattle. Period.
(5)Ilana B.
There are few places I love more than Fu- Man. It is sheer dumpling perfection. My (large) family goes here whenever there is something to celebrate. The food is always delicious, the service is fast and it is always cheap. Probably the only place in town you can feed a dozen adults for under 120 dollars and it be absolutely delicious. If you eat one thing in Seattle (besides Dicks) eat this. SO GOOD,
(5)Maureen K.
If you go here, only order 2 things: (1) dumplings - afterall, they do have "dumpling house" in their name (2) pork fried rice - not too salty, not too greasy. yes yes too too delicious. My husband loves their garlic soy sauce dipping concoction, but not moi. The dumplings are delicious just naked. Besides, they put so much garlic in there that it burns my nostril hair when I breathe it. If you order the other things, you might be disappointed. Unfortunately, their lo mein is greasy and their soups were not memorable.
(4)Tony R.
After having this place recommended by two trusted foodie friends (thanks SB and DS), I knew I had to visit. Finding the restaurant was a little tricky as Google maps takes you behind the restaurant. Eventually found street parking though and walked in to some yummy smelling food. Three of us were eating and we ordered a plate of dumplings, green onion pancake, and chow mein. The green onion pancake was thicker than I'm used to and not very flavorful. The chow mein was rockin'. Three of us finished all of it and were each pretty full, so good bang for your buck. The highlight of the night was the dumplings with the garlic sauce they have. It tasted incredible and I couldn't resist putting it all over everything. In hindsight, this was probably a mistake as I subsequently had the worst dragon breath of my life. Seriously, had to brush my teeth twice. Loved the taste, but probably should have eased up on it. While you may be thinking "if you have to throw sauce on everything, the food must not be that good" but seriously, before I saw the sauce, the dumplings were flavorful on their own and I was a happy camper. Its just when I found the garlic sauce, I was an even happier, if slightly smellier, camper.
(4)Xiaolei L.
Although they basically only have 1 kind of dumpling here, it's quite good. They're made fresh everyday. Skins are thin and the filling is decent. You can even pre-order 50 frozen dumplings for only $20 (you have to call 1 day ahead though). Soup and noodles are just so-so though. Beware that it's a pretty small place. The biggest table only seats 6. Not the greatest for large groups.
(4)Olivia C.
Excellent excellent excellent dumplings. A little hole-in-the-wall place. You can't go wrong with their food here. After we tried the place for the first time, my husband could not get their food out of his mind. Since we live quite far away, it took us a while to go back. But their food was as good as we remembered. We ordered the dumplings, beef pancake/hamburger and their chowmein. The dumplings came out first and both of us devoured it. The owner (whom is really friendly) turned around and saw us gulf down the food in a matter of minutes and exclaimed "wow! you guys are already done?" HAHA We reply because the food was so delicious. He thanked us and looked really pleased. I thought that was really adorable. Overall, a very pleasant experience. Don't expect some fancy food. It's simply down-home, stick-to-your-rib, home-cooked meal. YUMMY!!!
(4)Edmond R.
My go-to's: boiled dumplings and Fu-Man special chow mein. Also good: egg flower soup and green pancake. Closed on Mondays and also between 3 and 4:30. I call ahead for take out since seating is limited. Be sure to get the garlic sauce for the dumplings! I like it on my leftover chow mein too!
(4)Crystal L.
Like their hot and sour soup and seafood chow main!! Must try!!!!!
(4)Paul M.
Consistently great food, the mapo tofu is outrageous. Dumplings are great, XO Sauce is unreal. You will not be disappointed!
(4)Theresa B.
We live 5 minutes from this tasty joint. It's our favoring Chinese place in the north end. The owners cook everything from scratch including their hand-made dumplings. We always get them boiled, but I'm sure they're even better pan-fried. Besides the dumplings, some of our faves are the green onion pancake, the chow mein, and the egg drop soup. Portions are huge and well seasoned. Not too salty. Don't skimp on the garlic sauce, though you will have mad garlic breath for the next 24 hours.. As long as your partner eats it too, it's all good. You have been warned! It can take a little while for your order, but it's definitely worth the wait! I've picked up food to go with my baby, and the server was kind enough to take my order to my car. That's service! He also informed me that they're moving to the 125th and Aurora area in the fall. It'll be a little farther for us, but we'll still make the trek.

The Fu Man is such a hole in the wall. Its so small inside and its in such a funky location. Took me a long time to actually go in, I was put off by the whole structure. But boy, am I glad I finally went!!! I went with a group and we ordered all the things that were recommended on Yelp. The onion pancakes , the hot and sour soup and of course , the Dumplings. Everything was delicious, It was really a fabulous meal. I would agree with everyone recommendations about what to get. I'm primarily reviewing Fu Man because I was so blown away by the Hot and Sour Soup (with noodles). All hot and sour soups Ive ordered before were neon orange in color and gelatinous. Very unappetizing. The soup at Fu Man was CLEAR! a wonderful flavorful broth mixed with cilantro and hint of white pepper, it was amazing. That soup is what will bring me back to Fu Man!

I saw all the rave reviews here on Yelp and was nearby, so I finally decided to give Fu Man a try. Me likey. They were out of the leek pancakes and only serve a pork dumpling so my wife and I opted for other items on the menu. The spinach and tofu egg flour soup was very nice. Heavy on the white pepper, but what you might expect. The standard chow mein noodles with shrimp was delicious. Nice size serving with bits of crunchy cabbage in a tasty sauce. A bit salty for my taste, but very yummy. The green onion pancake was delicious. I believe they use rice flour which gives it a chewier texture. Crispy on the outside, chewy and glutenous on the inside. The house dipping sauce went very well. The owner is friendly and provides prompt service. Our bill came to only $25 for 3 items (soup and 2 entrees) and we had plenty of leftovers to take home. Overall, if you live in North Seattle it's a great restaurant to have in the neighborhood. We'll be back soon.

I am a potsticker junkie. And when the bus I took to Shoreline Community College passed by the yellow sign for the first time I knew I HAD to try this place. I mean come on, a place that specializes in dumplings?! THIS I CANNOT miss. During my time at Shoreline I frequented this place, and binged on many a delicious dumpling, always straying away from the more exotic wonders like "Chinese Pork Jelly". I base so many of my chinese restaurant reviews on their ability to make good dumplings or homemade noodles(since often the materials are the same). Though Fu Man does not do the homemade noodles as far as I know. Their dumplings are the best in the Seattle and far better than any I've ever sampled in my life. Try the Chinese Pork Hamburger if you are a true dumpling junkie like myself. It's this slightly thicker fried wrapper with a big hunk of seasoned pork in the middle, and when you bite in the juices just ooze out. This is what greasy dumplings are all about. The pancakes are also pretty bomb and the steamed dumplings are light and a really nice contrast to the more fattening options. Though it might not be fair to judge on dumplings alone(especially as far as most other chinese restaurants fair in that department). Fu Man's specialty is displayed prominently in it's title and rightly so. Best dumplings in Seattle.

The food was awesome. No word for its dumplings, great, great, and great. Very delicious. The boss speaks 4 languages. Can you believe that? Amazing place, in general.

There's a reason why they're a dumpling house. They have legit dumplings here! I came here just shortly before the lunch rush with two of my friends. I made the bold decision to get the dumplings+hot & sour soup combo. The other two, however, decided to get chow mein. Needless to say, I definitely picked the best entree out of us 3. The chow meins were pretty greasy and it tasted like there was quite a bit of MSG put in it (-1 star). My hot&sour soup tasted slightly off from what I'm used to, it had extra pepper in it and it was more on the tangy side than sour. But hey, maybe I've been having the incorrectly spiced soup all along. Otherwise, the service was fantastic and I had enough leftovers for dinner (as did my two other Chow Mein-iacs, tee hee!

This has been a family favorite ever since it opened! Delicious dumplings, noodles, and my personal favorite, green onion pancakes. All the food is homemade in the restaurant - look in the back and you'll see the owner and his mother working on your dinner. The restaurant itself is comfortable, clean, and spare; to avoid long waits my husband and I usually call ahead for takeout. The owner is absolutely wonderful - he always seemed a little gruff to me at first, but since we've become regular customers ("2 orders of green onion pancakes, please!"), he is always thrilled to see us. Although my husband and I no longer live in Seattle, we always make a stop at Fu Man when we're back visiting friends and family. Our typical dinner order consists of 12 steamed dumplings, 2 orders of green onion pancakes, and vegetarian chow mein. I've also enjoyed the leek pancake and fried rice. I don't particularly care for the garlic sauce - too strong for me to enjoy, but simple soy sauce goes great with the dumplings as well. The food always arrives hot, fresh, and delicious, even after the car trip home. I highly recommend Fu Man to anyone looking for a quick, inexpensive dumpling/pancake dinner!

Unfortunately we went near closing so the dumplings were waterlogged and falling apart. However the house dumpling dipping sauce is very good and garlicky.
(3)Thanh-Thanh N.
The boiled dumplings are amazzzzzing, with the juice that pours out it might as well be a soup dumbpling. So hearty and delicious! Random white man as your server, but its all good. Tried the chow mein, but it was ok...probably ordered the wrong thing. I will definitely try the ma po tofu and the green pancake next time. Also they could use a better chili sauce.
(4)Michelle F.
It's really hard to find authentic Chinese food. It's often the American-style Chinese - uber-greasy, uber-spiced (with flavors, not heat). This is not. We ordered the won ton soup with dumplings, hom bow, stir fried mixed vegetables, seaweed salad, rice, and dumplings. It was subtle. They let the flavors speak for themselves. I enjoyed everything, but some of the flavors were so subtle it was a bit underwhelming. Overall, a pretty tasty experience and I'm sure I will be back. Oh - and according to the server, the roasted chicken is crazy amazing. And I quote... "The best chicken in the worrrrrllllld."

This is a dumpling house. Please go and try the dumplings! Okay, so if it were not for the good reviews here on Yelp, and my need for some good Asian food in the north end, I never would have tried this place, simply based on the name alone. Fu Man, really? I'm not going to even go there with the whole Fu Man thing and why I am so appalled by it. But you know, I have no idea what "Fu Man" means in Chinese, and it could very well mean something special and important. Just ignore the name and eat the dumplings! The meal began with complimentary tea and pickled vegetables. Two Words: GARLIC SAUCE Seriosly, gotta try it. It is so addicting. I have never tried anything like it. I slopped some of it and some of the chili sauce on my plate and bathed my boiled dumplings in it. The chili sauce gave it a nice kick and some extra heat, and the two flavorings complimented each other nicely. I am grateful that I like and appreciate bold flavors like chilis, onions, garlic, ginger, and so on, because it really adds layers to dishes and to the overall experience of a food, Dumplings are a bit of a humble food simply made of wrapper, pork, green onion, and ginger. I thought that the ratio of wrapper to filling was perfect. I never like when the dumpling filling is overshadowed by the wrapper and all you taste is well, wrapper. We also had the special chow mein. They did not skimp with meat and veggies. I loved the soft texture of the noodles. They were yummy, but the overall dish itself was nothing to write home about. Again, showering it with chili and garlic sauce gave the noodles the flavor that it lacked. The parking is hard to come by and the location is a bit random, so don't be surprised if you drive by it the first time. Overall, I was pleased by my meal here because it was filling and being my type of comfort food, totally hit the spot. It was freezing outside and I was hungry so if you find yourself experiencing either of those, please slow down and be careful, or you might burn the roof of your mouth or even your tongue because you are so excited to try one of the dumplings. Not that I have any experience doing that.
(4)Christina S.
Always my favorite dumplings! I enjoy their dumplings, special garlic dipping sauce, the complimentary appetizers, and the hot n sour soup. I've worked at a few Chinese restaurants and usually they made hot and sour soup with A LOT OF SOY SAUCE, vinegar, and MSG - tastes nothing like the real hot n sour soup in Taiwan, they really should call it soy sauce soup instead. But Fu Man's hot n sour soup is surprising not the typical Americanized hot n sour soup - it comes with white soup base and no soy sauce. It's not exactly the same as the hot n sour soup in Taiwan but its flavor can definitely compete with those ones! Great service, convenient parking, fair price! Tip: not a good place for a the first date or before interview because the garlic sauce will stink up your breathe!
(5)Joseph M.
I'd come here more often. A friend introduced me to this place a few weeks ago after we saw our movie. The food was fantastic. I've give 5 stars, but this place is so popular that they need to expand. I think they should have taken over the space for the Tiger Bar that went out of business recently. Missed out on a great opportunity, imho. We went there, but could only do take out. But, our order was done within 15 minutes.
(4)Linda C.
Their dumplings and pork fried rice ROCKS out of this world! It's definitely a taste from home :-) The food there is so cheap and we had leftovers for lunch the next 2 days. Coming back for more that's for sure!
(5)Amanda T.
Today was my first time to come to this restaurant. Based on my friend suggestion and also from yelp's rating my friend and I came to this place People on yelp said that the fried dumpling was good But we ended oredering the fried and also the boiled dumpling Well, for me I LIKE the BOILED DUMPLING waaaaay better than the fried one.. It's juicy and I could taste the taste of their pork The fried one was also good, but it's not worthed with what you paid, and it also oily.. The fried dumpling has the same price with the boiled one but it only contains 6 dumplings while the boiled one has 12 dumplings Also, the garlic souce was very, very yummy and had a VERY STRONG garlic taste.. (well, it's waaay too strong for me I guess) but my friend likes it :) We also ordered the hot and sour soup but it's just so so (it had cilantro on it!!! I hate cilantro!!!) Overall, I liked this place very much and I would definetly go back.. But I would just order the boiled dumpling one, I guess :)

Scrumptious ! It was so good we went back the next day. My companion lived in China for a time so I consider her opinion quite discerning. What they do they do very well. We felt welcomed and appreciated in addition to a fabulous meal x 2. The dumplings were the best we have found anywhere. The onion pancakes were the reason we chose them in the first place. All diners seemed quite pleased also. When their budget permits I would like to see the seating area updated and upgraded. But I'll do my part for that by going probably once a week or so from now on.

My first time here but I loved it! I was a little disappointed that they only had red vinegar and no rice vinegar but maybe that's just something most dumpling places don't use. At first I was a little skeptical when I walked in. The place is really tiny and is in a kind of older-ish building. I took a look at the prices and wondered why I was paying so much for dumplings. My brother ordered because he had been here before and we got fried dumplings, steamed dumplings and the special house fried rice. Definitely surprised when the dumplings came out. They were HUGE. I've never seen dumplings that size. Maybe it's just because I'm used to the ones we make at home or the frozen ones but the plate of dumplings was definitely worth the price. I've gotta disagree with people about the flavor. I don't think they tasted anything like the ones you get at Costco (which I personally find...subpar). The meat wasn't super flavorful but went really well with the garlic dip that they had. I loved the outer "skin" of the dumpling. =) Soo yummy!!! We could totally tell that they were hand maded and if you didn't let it sit in the sauce for too long, they were slightly crunchy, just the way I like it. The house fried rice was amazing as well. Definitely greasy but I kept taking more. Probably one of the best plates of fried rice I've ever had at a Chinese restaurant. Thumbs up for service. My mom and I were pleasantly surprised by how helpful and nice and the waiters were. =) Let's just say, at most Chinese restaurants, I feel like I might be offending the waiter just for asking for water.
(5)Joshua B.
Definitely not your typical Chinese place. When I walked into Fu Man I thought to myself, "This place is tiny." When I was leaving I thought "This place is legit." The pot-stickers and green onion pancakes were amazing. The garlic sauce was mind-blowing. The only thing I was bummed about was the small menu. Whatever these guys are cooking I want more of it. One of the servers was wound a little tightly but it almost made the experience more interesting. He likes to try and talk you into changing your original order but don't let him. Trust your senses Grasshopper. Definitely worth checking out. Bought too much food but the leftovers heated up nicely.

Was up in the north end and decided to drop by for lunch. Glad to see they have updated the interior with a fresh coat of red paint and pictures. The pork dumplings were good and the garlic and hot sauce are great. The dumplings have a larger ratio of vegetables than I remember (50% now vs. 25% before), but this gives them a little more crunch and adds to the taste. A better value than Din Tai Fung, but different kinda dumpling... My fortune, "A wise person cares not for what he cannot have but for what he can."
(4)Christy K.
OMG!! Great place for a family style Chinese food. I think I've tried everything on the menu. The dumplings are made fresh to order. Look through the widow they have to the kitchen. Soups are great. Dumplings, pancakes, and noodle are my favorite. Also, beware the the sauce on the table. Its pure mashed garlic and soy sauce. Just perfect with EVERYTHING. YUM!! I have been there three days in a row with my husband and highly recommend to our friends.

Fu-Man has really gone downhill! The service is pretty poor these days, with the head waiter mocking the customer and getting pretty snippy over small things like asking why your water is taking over 10 minutes to receive after the food even though the restaurant was pretty empty. The assistant waiter is just clueless and at first she gave off a vibe that she'd never done this line of work before, but after dealing with her so many times now she just comes off as incompetent, careless, and unconcerned with your experience. Sometimes either one of the waiters will make mistakes with your order, or forget that you asked for something. As to the food, they removed beef from their special chow mein a while back, so no longer is it beef, chicken, and shrimp, just chicken & shrimp. The Green Onion pancakes used to be so soft and thick with filling, now they are regularly overcooked so the dough is burnt with not nearly as much filling as they used put in them. The dumplings, which used to be the bomb, are now, on repeat visits, VERY watery and not nearly as good as when we first visted Fu-Man. The food just doesn't have as authentic a flavor anymore, tasting blander, so I question if they have a different, crappier, cook working for them now. After coming here every couple of months for the past couple of years the time between each visit kept stretching, and stretching, and now I no longer care to return. I'd rather drive down to the International District to get better food, at better prices, with better service. Sorry, but IMO Fu-Man is running on past reputation these days.

My wife has gone off Chinese food, but the kid and I love it, so we go to Fu Man when we get a chance. We have a pretty standard order: large hot and sour soup (I love that big drift of white pepper on the top; yum!), pan-fried potstickers (kuo-teh), some sort of chow fun or chow mein (vegetable, usually, although today we got chicken), and we have to have a green onion pancake. Perhaps we were lucky today: when we went, only two other tables were occupied, and so our food came out just sizzlingly hot. I can see how some people would find the service challenging, but I've worked in the food biz and it's not hard at all to establish a rapport, IMO. Today's lunch was spectacular - perhaps the best part was: the tea. Perfectly steeped, neither over- nor under-steeped, and just freakin' delicious. (I have to admit, both front-of-house guys complimented my kids on their mad chopstick skillz, so maybe that biases me a little to the friendly side, but geez, I can't imagine how this could have been better.) Three people - you saw what we ordered - with tip a tad over thirty bucks.

Go here. Its really good. I have probably been here about 12-15 times and every single time I come here the food is always excellent. The dumplings are great and the hot n sour soup is SO FREAKING GOOD. mmmmmmm just sitting here writing about it makes me wanna go there for dinner......

This place is Grrrrrrrrrreat! Nice service, food, and price. Homemade and FRESH!

Growing up in San Gabriel Valley, CA I can definitely say I was spoiled when it came to asian food. That is why I don't think this place was that special. The place was packed when I arrived at 7:30 pm. Not all the items on the menu were available since I was seated at 8 and the restaurant closed at 9. That was a little irritating. Everyone gets a free pickled vegetable appetizer. The flavors of the appetizers were very good. The dumplings are made fresh so I will give that to them. The skins on the ones I got were really, really soft, as if they had been cooked too long. The garlic sauce was a little weak, there was soy sauce and chili sauce, but no vinegar on the table. I also ordered the green onion pancake, xiao long bao, and wonton soup. The green onion pancake was THE disappointment of the night. It was thick, which isn't a bad thing, but there wasn't a corresponding increase in the amount of onions, plus is was fried too long so that it was burnt and too hard on the outside. The xiao long bao, aren't the normal steamed soup dumplings one is used to. In fact, they look like regular bao zi (steamed buns with filling). They were good, the buns were soft and fresh made while the filling had good flavor. The wonton soup was a little disappointing as well. I was expecting small dumplings, instead these were HUGE dumplings with noodles and vegetables in chicken soup. The soup was the best out of the three. The noodles were cooked nicely, but I don't think they were homemade which was surprising. The dumplings had been sitting in the soup so long that they fell apart when I tried to pick them up. That brings me to the service, which was okay. In all fairness, the waiter/host seemed kind of overwhelmed. My biggest complaints about the service was that he couldn't or wouldn't recommend anything when asked and my personal pet peeve: he questioned whether I would be able to finish everything I ordered. WTH? Does that really matter? Isn't that what to go boxes are for? Overall, I don't think I would go back, not because of the service, but because the dumplings were just average while everything else I ordered was just average or below average. I would give this place 2.5 stars if I could, but 3 stars is close enough.
(3)John C.
The dumplings were delicious. Service was not super fast, but if you call ahead for pick up you can get quick service. Only 4 stars because one time I tried to call in takeout during business hours and they never answered the phone... I tried 4 times.
(4)Kelly M.
Wow, really good dumplings here. They were fresh and delicious, so good in fact that after the first order our group needed one more round. We also had the green onion pancake which I thought was quite tasty, my wife thought they were a bit too thick and didn't quite hit the spot for her. The hot and sour soup was also quite good. They didn't go overboard with the "sour" aspect so you could taste the rest of the flavors in the soup. We went early, so we didn't experience any waits. As for the folks working the tables on this day, they weren't about to become my best pals but they did their jobs efficiently with a decently friendly attitude.
(4)Mike O.
not great for vegetarian options
(2)Justin I.
First off, the namesake: tender, never mushy, house-made dumplings filled with pork, onion and ginger. Since they make them all the time, they always taste the same, which is great once you start craving them (which you will). I have to pace myself when the girl and I split an order, otherwise I finish my half too quickly and start eyeballing hers. For the most part, I consider fried rice a plate filler, but the vegetable fried rice at Fu Man is so delicious that I always order some along with the dumplings. Fluffy and extremely flavorful, this isn't the dessicated, lamp-warmed stuff you might be used to. Doesn't even need meat! The other dishes are always secondary for me, but they have a neat little variety of things that you don't see at a lot of Chinese joints. I'm not necessarily bananas for the pork steamed buns, but I love the pancake, the chow mein, and that groovy little seaweed salad they serve as an appetizer. It's probably been mentioned already, but the dining room fills up quickly at peak times, and there's no waiting area to speak of. Great service, though, and the guy who's usually behind the counter is a character. The garlic sauce might be the real reason Fu Man is famous. It's incredible, but beware of eating it if there is someone with whom you plan to interact romantically that evening. Actually, go ahead. It's probably better than what you had planned anyway.
(5)Tom W.
Really good pork dumplings and pork bun. The service was great. We felt very welcomed and can't wait to return.
(5)Corrine C.
This is a bit out of the way for us, however we were in the neighborhood this weekend so we pick up some items to go. the boiled dumplings are as delish as I remembered and we also ordered a chicken chow mein. The chow mein was a bit on the greasy side as I stare at the bottom of my shiny (very shiny) plate but it is quite tasty! Lots of various veggies and woodear mushroom rounded out the dark meat chicken. I think it's about avg in price - beats making dumplings at home. The noodles were around $8 and the dumplings were around $8 as well for a dozen. Yum Yum! Looking forward to my next visit!
(4)Ron O.
This is a nice small authentic Chinese restaurant. I love that all the wrappers and noodles are made from scratch. The green onion pancakes takes 20 minutes, but it is worth it. Garlic sauce is incredible
(5)Evan M.
You can see the folks making the dumpling dough through the little window to the back. This is EPIC WIN. The location is super broke down next to the weird tiger bar and the "parking in rear" sign. *giggle* Don't let that deter you! The food here is not fancy, pretentious, or more than it pretends to be. It's just straight up super homey, lovingly made dumplings. Eat 'em. You'll get really full, really fast and you'll be happy for it.
(4)Maple C.
Dumplings!! They were good, but I don't think I would drive all the way from Issaquah to come here just for the dumplings. Watch out for the garlic sauce; the garlic aftertaste stays on your breath foreverrrrrr. I had one teaspoon of it, and I had to brush my teeth, use mouthwash, basically the whole shabang and I could still taste it.
(3)Linda C.
Thumbs up for their boiled dumplings and green onion pancake! Portions are generous. Was wishing my stomach was bigger so we could have tried more things, but we'll be back! So stoked to have found a tasty Chinese place!
(4)Jen K.
I wish i remembered this place when I was living up in north Seattle. It was hard to find a good Chinese restaurant without going to the International District. I recently came here with some friends, and we ordered a lot of food! Got the dumplings (of course), fried rice, the pancake, and soup. Everything was SO good. The best part of the whole meal was the garlic sauce. The food by itself was great, but the garlic sauce made it heavenly. Omg thinking about it makes my mouth water. My only complaint is that the pancakes came out much later than the rest of the food, and some of our dishes had some stains on them (which they happily replaced). One of the better Chinese places, let alone dumpling places, in North Seattle!
(4)Tai T.
Before going to Fu Man I had three friends independently rave about the restaurant in one weekend. Additionally, 64 ratings with a 4 star average can't all be wrong right?!?! Sadly Fu Man did not live up to the hype. This is a hole in the wall in north Greenwood... as advertised. It's right next to a bar with a Thundercat on the billboard. I know what you're thinking... Since Thundercats rock, you'd think this place would too. The dumplings were the best thing, but that's not saying much. The dumpling skin was very good, but the filling was not. We also got the green onion pancake. It was deep fried versus pan fired like it's supposed to be. Seemed like there was something wrong with each dish we ordered. Not sure I'd be back anytime soon. I guess I have to keep driving north (to Canada) to get good dumplings.
(2)Adam P.
Dumplings are still pretty good. Service still needs a lot of work. A small request: If you're open 'til 9, please don't tell my friends and I looking for a sit-down meal who just drove all the way to Shoreline for some dumplings and arrived at 8:30 "Take-Out Only". Dammit. Squandered potential is a damn shame.
(1)Jody M.
Overall kinda expensive, but they need to make a living. The pan-fried potstickers were very good. The green onion pancake was very dense without many green onions -- just a lot of heavy dough. Dipping sauce nice and spicy.
(3)Shari d.
I just had the best Chow Mein and Dumplings ever!!!! The noodles were hand cut and everything was made from scratch. I couldn't have envisioned a better dinner! He ordered the special chow mein and the steamed dumplings. He knew my favorite was the green onion pancake but they told him it would be 20 mins....I gasped. But after tasting the oh so goodness of their food I can understand why they want you to wait that long...they make everything fresh. It is located in Greenwood and not Chinatown...no wonder they are so good...these days everything in Chinatown tastes the same unless you go to a specialty shop. Try the Fu man dumpling house...because it is yummy in your tummy.

Divine intervention led to the waiter mistakenly delivering the leek pancake to my table rather than the green onion pancake I had ordered. Being both from the allium family, and it being my first visit there, I dug right in not knowing the diff, and have since added a new texture and flavor to my "things to crave" list. I am not big on steamed dumplings, my palate prefers crispier pan-fried things. However, my dining partner wanted to try the dumplings so we did, and they were pretty good too. And as a fan of won ton soups since a child, I had to order theirs after I read in the menu that all items were made from scratch. What came was not the pretty won ton floating in a cup of broth that I am accustomed to, but that pretty won ton's ginormous big brother, singly wedged into a cup, with a token splash of yummy broth ladled over it. Eat the chow mein too, the noodles are hand cut. As others have pointed out, I will be back for the affordability, it's proximity to my home, and the aforementioned leek pancake and won ton soup. And while I try hard not to take myself too seriously, I have to add this one caveat to my review: As a socially conscious and analytical Asian American, I had to look past the name that dances dangerously close to an antiquated racist stereotype perpetuated about Asians in the 1800s and early 1900s. I'm hoping that "Fu Man" has some other significance and is not a throwback to old visages of yellow-skinned villains with infamously long mustaches. OK, I had to get that out of my system, thanks for reading gently. That being said, despite what would appear to be a conflicted write-up, this is still a solid 4-star review!
(4)James M.
The dining room is a little cramped and not particularly noteworthy but the food and service are outstanding! We went as a group of four and shared all the items we ordered, a really fun spot for a group of 6 or less or a family. BEST: Hot and Sour Soup, Green Onion Pancake GOOD: Boiled dumplings, Chow Mein
(5)Eric L.
As a self-proclaimed expert on Asian dumplings of all shapes and sizes, I can safely say that these are the best dumplings in the Seattle-area. Sorry Ping's and DTF, Fu Man takes 1st place! Immediately upon walking in, one is greeted by a very friendly manager and stereotypical hole-in-the-wall Chinese decoration (lots of red, more red, and Asian posters/paintings.) Though this is all easily disregarded once the food arrives. The manager is great about making guests happy, he is vigilant in ensuring that diners have fresh napkins and topped-off cups of tea, and doesn't intrude on your conversations or book-reading to do so. Before I go on to the food, I wanted to note that the black jar of sauce on the table isn't soy sauce that's gone bad, it's a jar of the most amazing garlic sauce I've ever had (and probably will have.) Pair it with the dumplings, potstickers, green onion pancakes, etc. Just be sure to brush your teeth/chew gum after your meal, or you will have garlic breath for a few hours (or days, if you're like me and use half the damn thing.) The boiled pork and chive dumplings are similar to soup dumplings, in the sense that when you bite into them, liquid goodness escapes which you should desperately try to prevent from happening. Alternatively, the pan-fried potsticker version of these dumplings are just as good, though obviously not as healthy. While the dumplings can be a tad bit on the salty side, everything else great about it outweighs this small issue. If you have hypertension or CHD, just stick with a small order rather than a large ;) My other personal favorite here is the green onion pancake, which are to absolutely die for. They are perfectly pan fried in just the right amount of oil, so that you feel no guilt when you see that there are no oily streaks on your napkins after you've wiped your mouth. I come here at least once a week, and I don't see that trend stopping anytime soon! PS - There is limited parking in the front (there are limited spaces and these are shared with the adjoining stores to the side), but fear not, there is plenty of parking in the back parking lot behind the restaurant.
(5)Jerica K.
Soooooo great for dumblings , soup & fried rice . Our leftovers were great the next day too .
(5)Alisa J.
Potsticker? These things are no joke!!! Neither is their dumpling sauce.
(5)Briana T.
It's dangerous that I live about 5 minutes away from this place. Best dumplings in the Seattle area by far. They are HUGE, as are all their portions. You can really taste the quality and care that is put into their cooking. Nothing fake or frozen tasting. An order of house fried rice and a 12 count of dumplings is so large, my boyfriend and I get about 4 meals out of it. Very friendly staff. Very affordable. This is one of my favorite places to grab a quick, affordable dinner. I'll be back, probably 1,000 more times.
(5)Sara S.
I love love love there garlic soy sauce, and there dumplings it's simple and delicious.

Very good home-cooked food. Have to have the garlic sauce even if it stays with you for days. Don't let the outside appearance deter you, very quaint and friendly inside. Most menu items ~$8.

The dumplings-- boiled and fried-- were delicious and comparable to what I can make without all of the hours of labor on my end. Their scallion pancake was also good; it was a bit thick, but it was spot on with the flavor and texture. Their roast chicken was tasty, but it got cold quickly. I wouldn't write home to my Asian parents about this place, but if I don't want to put in the work to make this food myself, this place is pretty good.

Dumplings with the sauce and red chillies that you will find at the table are to die for. Hot and Sour soup was the best I have ever had! So much Yum!

Great hole-in-the-wall vibe coupled with some of the best Chinese/Chinese American food you can get at a price you won't believe. The fried dumplings? Chewy and delicious with a pork filling that I dream about. The boiled dumplings? Same great filling, but with another great texture. The hot and sour soup is top notch and Fu Man has pork fried rice that's worth repeat orders due to its fresh and large pieces of protein. Be careful, though - their garlic sauce is spicy thanks to enough garlic to knock out a genteel taste bud. Unless your date is a fan of allium, I wouldn't take a romantic parner out here.

Just call me the Odd Man Out. After scanning a sea of reviews that mainly comprised of 4 and 5 star assessments, I grabbed my hat and headed out. My Order: Steamed dumplings (12) - a large plate of large, juicy, steamed dumplings stuffed with pork and cilantro. I dipped it in a mix of chili sauce and their soy sauce. A filling appetizer but isn't anything better than what I am accustomed to a la Din Tai Fung or an ABC dumpling house. Special Fried Rice - Fried white rice with egg, shrimp, pork and chicken(?) again nothing special. Roast Chicken - Cut pieces of roast chicken with cilantro, onion, thin slices of cucumber swimming in a light, soy type sauce. The cool, not hot chicken again was not impressive. Green onion pancake - I surmise that Fu Man's pancake is dense and about 2.5 times thicker than what you find at most Chinese restaurants. I prefer the thinner, crisper ones elsewhere. The rest of the night I inherited a horrid, garlic breath and even worse burps that can clear out a stadium. To pour salt on the wound, the leftovers tasted like smelly feet. ;(

The boiled dumplings were very delicious and the special chow mein was good as well, although the shrimp was a little on the dry side. It was a little more expensive than I was used to though. The service was very friendly and attentive.

Just found this place and I've now been there twice. The garlic sauce is wonderful and I haven't had better green onion pancakes. The dumplings, chow mein, seaweed salad, and hot and sour soup are wonderful - highly recommend them!
(5)Kari F.
The dumplings are handmade from scratch and are amazing with the homemade garlic sauce! The hot and sour soup is really good too, my favorite in Seattle. My daughter loves the chicken fried rice. And it's very reasonable priced. How can it get any better? Well worth the trip to this hidden gem!

I've been coming to Fu Man a couple times per month for about 6 months. I mainly pick up takeout, but we've eaten in a couple of times too. I think of Fu Man as a pretty straightforward chinese place, but where the ingredients are fresh, and care is taken in preparation. The dumpings are really, really good. Chow Mein isn't something I would normally order at a chinese place, but at Fu Man, it's very tasty. Placing a takeout order, especially by phone, can be a bit of a gauntlet. The person taking the order sounds as though they might be timing the order with a stopwatch, and your responsibility is to not slow down the team. After several orders, I am finally feeling generally competent at getting the order in, quickly, and without making them or me feel like a complete newbie. It's all worthwhile, though, when you get to the food.

Numerous reviews compliment Fu Man Dumpling House and their homemade dumplings, so we decided to head there for lunch on a Sunday around 1:30pm. Driving into the lot, we noticed that there were only 3 stalls reserved for Fu Man Dumpling House patrons. Luckily, "I spy with my little eye" the sign that said "more parking in rear" Bam! (quick tip!) As we opened the door, we noticed just how small the space really was. Seven tables to be exact. The menu was also small and simple. Keeping their focus on authentic, Chinese style street vendor dishes, such as: dumplings, steamed buns, pancakes, soups, fried rice and noodles. Toward the rear of the restaurant, there is a small window to the kitchen which allows customers to ogle at the chefs in the back prepping their homemade dumplings and other ingredients. The feeling at Fu Man Dumpling House was definitely that of a family operation, small and affordable. One order of boiled dumplings, onion pancake and special fried rice completed our order. WOW! The boiled dumplings were divine! Although I would have preferred the wrap a little thinner, I appreciated it's authenticity and generous filling. I was about three dumplings in before I remembered to use the garlic sauce! Holy Moly! This sauce is a winner - but use with caution! It will give you extreme garlic breath! The house special fried rice was lovely and the onion pancakes, ok. We originally wanted the leek pancakes but sadly, they were sold out for the day :(. If I have persuaded you into dining here at Fu Man Dumpling House, my tip would be that you either arrive early, phone ahead with a take out order, or be prepared to wait. I'd strongly suggest you have parties no larger than six and that additional parking is located in back.

I am so addicted to dumplings and these definitely hit the spot! The dipping sauce is really garlicky and I like that but it can be super strong. The green onion pancake is also super delicious! If you want it to go make sure to call ahead...it's pretty tiny in there so unless you want to stand awkwardly and feel like you're in the way, make sure to plan ahead for a quick in and out!
(4)Cindy L.
Delicious dumplings and tasty garlic sauce. We usually get take-out as the restaurant only seats about 20 people. The decor is dated and random, but the food is delicious. I wish they offered a little more diversity on the menu, but what they do have, they do well!
(4)Jeranel J.
I have only ordered the hot and sour soup with dumplings and it was great!!! The dumplings were obviously hand made and very fresh and the soup was filled with all kinds of goodies. I only eat for myself so it is hard for me to try everything but I do love a good bowl of soup. One of the universe's most precious gifts! And this is a good bowl of soup.

Truthfully I don't write many reviews, and the ones I do write are always on the Positive Side. Lets face it, If a place Sucks, People will find out soon enough. Being a Chef Owner myself I there are Thousands of reviews out there bashing places, because they wouldn't split a check or didn't make their sauce gluten free or some other such nonsense. In other words, People who have never been in the restaurant business. That being said I generally have an expectation of a place, and if that expectation is met I'm Happy. Fu Man Goes above and beyond my expectations. Growing up in San Francisco's China Town I can Tell you, This Place is LEGIT! from the Wonderful Steamed and Fried Dumpling, to the Crisp and Succulent Green Onion Pancakes, all washed down with some of the Best Hot and sour Soup in the City. As noted by Many, the Garlic Sauce is FOR REAL! Brining it all together. Its worth a day of garlic Burps. I got obsessed with this place for a while coming once or twice a week from as far away as Issaquah to get a dumpling fix, but boy it was worth it , satisfied! Definitely Crave the dumplings from time to time, and will make a special trip out here to scratch that itch.

I was excited to see high reviews a Chinese restaurant outside of international district. Unfortunately, I wasn't as impressed as everyone else. Their boiled dumpling are simple that--boiled dumplings. They were very watery and made the other items on my plate watery. The fu man chicken was good but nothing mind blowing. The cilantro flavor is strong and the chicken is a bit dry. I am a fan of the pan fried dumplings! They were crispy and flavorful! The garlic sauce is also to DIE for. If it wasn't for these two things, I wouldn't imagine myself coming back. I would definitely recommend the pan friend dumplings. I will need to try the pork burger when I come back. Otherwise, the staff was VERY FRIENDLY. They were helpful, attentive, and conversational. Because the staff was so friendly, I'd give Fu Man Dumpling House another try.
(3)Jacqueline T.
A house for dumplings. Good by itself, good in hot and sour soup, and good pan friend gyoza way. haha. Size is jumbo, so its best to share with friends to try a little bit of everything. But can't come with a herd of people, as the place fits about 4 tables of 6. Thus 24 ppl max. Everything with garlic sauce is delicious, but it is heavy in msg? As I always come out thirsty. And hours later, the garlic stench stays with you.. *burps* Mediocre. but very filling. Definitely come when you need your dose of garlic once they sound the zombie alert! wait.. does it work on zombies, like it does on vampires? Try it and let me know ;D

If Din Tai Fung is the art of delicacy, Fu Man is definitely Comforter/Homemade style. Fu Man really reminds me of home, my mom's hand-made dumplings, the dumplings I can find on the streets in Taipei. Location 4 STARS It's 10 mins from where I live. Right one Greenwood and around 145th (it's on the border line between Seattle and Shoreline) There are parking spots in front of the restaurant and in the back. Decro 3 STARS It looks like a shed outside and it's not really fancy inside. Totally home style! There are only 5-8 tables (maybe fewer) in the store. A little crowded. However, takeout is alway an option here. Food 5 STARS I love the food here! It is really like HOME! I am very selective with pork. But, I love the pork dumplings here. They also have good green onion pancakes, pot-stickers (Steamed or pan-friend), and beef hamburger. It is a dumpling place, but they do have pretty good fried noodles. A lot of times, if you don't handle the fried noodles properly, the noodles will be really soft and soggy. It's not happening in Fu Man. As far as the flavor goes, it is very good! The regulars probably already know this. Fu Man has amazing garlic soy sauce. THE BEST! Service 4 STARS The owner is really nice and friendly. We told him what we were going to order and he would let us know whether we had enough or too much. He may sound really loud, but it's just him. He is still friendly with his thunder voice! BE AWARE: If you are coming in late, especially later than 8:30PM, there will be limited choices. If you want the special, tasty, handmade dumpling and pancakes, make sure you come in before 8PM. For those, you don't think it's good, I am sorry because this is not really what you grew up with! But, for me, this is GOOD!
(4)Ian A.
AMAZING! I get take out more often from here than anywhere else in Seattle.
(5)Kent L.
If you've lived in the greater Seattle area, you already know that in the northern area(s), good food is hard to come by. This is where Fu Man changes your entire perception. In short, they offer you hand made dumplings and other comestibles for reasonable prices. There is a sauce that'll likely leave your breath kickin', but we'll get to that. Fu Man is located in between a brew your own beer supply shop, and an indoor (grow) lighting shop. It's not in the classiest of joints (pun intended), and looks like your typical hole in the wall in the communities north of Greenlake. As you enter, you'll notice there are only a handful of tables and a long booth along the right side of the restaurant. Space is very limited, and the owner will not hesitate to seat you next to people that you don't know. Don't like it? Go ahead, stand there and watch as your stomach slowly starts to hate your very existence. Once you're seated, you'll notice that there's this jar of a brown sauce, chili sauce, and some vinegar. If this is your first time, I'd consider skipping over the vinegar, unless you like such things. I'd say skip the chili sauce, but it's not that spicy and only adds to the flavor of the garlic sauce. I honestly can't give the garlic sauce a proper description. Its viscosity is less than that of oyster sauce, but more than that of soy sauce. There's a fine middle ground there that the master of sauces at Fu Man has figured out. The taste is just that, of garlic and more garlic. There's a few subtle notes in there, but as you'll taste, it's 99% garlic. Mix it with some of that chili sauce and await your order. I'll warn you though, this stuff is potent and breath mint resistant. You'll think that you've killed the stench until the momentary cooling sensation of the breath mint is gone. Then, you're left with a cool, garlic taste. No, not very cool at all. Ah, but that's the question, what do you order?! You can't go to a self proclaimed dumpling house and not try their dumplings. That's like going to a seafood restaurant and ordering a hamburger. Yes. You. I'm looking at you, you oddball. Order yourself some steamed and pan fried dumplings at the very least. Hungry for more? Try the green onion pancake and/or the special chow mein. There are other items on the menu that shouldn't be overlooked, but save the guessing for later. The steamed dumplings come in orders of 12. On most occasions, the dumpling is steamed almost to perfection leaving the exterior intact, even as you entrap the succulent morsel of goodness between those two chopsticks of yours. This is quite possibly one of the most important parts of the experience. If it's too soggy, it'll leave a film of dissatisfaction in your mouth as you bite into the pork that is the dumpling. If it's not soft enough, it'll remind you of that one time your brother gave you a small balloon and said that it was chewing gum. Unless you like that sort of thing, you'll be satisfied by the texture of the dumpling. As far as the actual meat is concerned, it's juicy, tender, and delicious. It won't blow your mind, but it's definitely more than satisfactory. For the life of me, I can't remember how many pan fried dumplings come in an order (6 or 8). Though the meat tastes relatively the same, it's mostly about the texture again. As you crunch into the dumpling, you'll be a little surprised as the dumpling contrasts the crunchiness with a little bit of tenderness. Once again, not perfect, but definitely nothing to frown upon. The green onion pancake can be good or bad, depending on your preference. I, myself, prefer a thinner, crunchier pancake with the slightest bit of tenderness in the center. The ones served up here present the onion flavor very well, but is quite thick as far as pancakes such as these are concerned. The thickness leaves the center somewhat doughy, which could be appealing or unappealing depending on what you enjoy. Overall, Fu Man serves up some well made dumplings with a unique sauce that should keep you satisfied for quite a while post meal. It's definitely worth checking out if you're in the area and need something to satiate that hunger beast within. Just remember, bring your toothbrush and toothpaste. You'll need it!

I regret not stopping here sooner. The food is fresh and really tasty. The people in charge are friendly and kind. I'm looking forward to coming here again. The green onion pancake was instantly one of my favorite things to eat.
(5)Keola S.
I had a craving for green onion pancakes... did a quick search and found this place. OMG amazeballs. Portions are good, the dipping sauce is so garlicky and the pancakes are the perfect combo of crispy and flaky. They were only doing takeout bc they close in 30 min, which was fine with us. Food came out quickly, and everything was delicious.
(5)Stephanie K.
Best. Beef chow mein. Ever. So good with the dumplings! I have to be rolled back to the car every time. My mama and I always get a giant bag of dumplings to take home. You can do that, you know. It's great to come home and pan fry all of the delicious dumplings your little heart desires. It is a small, run down looking, unassuming place. The owner isn't the friendliest person ever, but I don't even care. Worth it. You gotta go.
(4)Harrison W.
If you like bad service, mean owners, overrated food, and crowded seating space, then Fu Man is for you. If you're like me, and prefer none of the above, then you'll do well to avoid Fu Man's Dumpling House. My friends and I used to frequent this place pretty regularly, what with decent Asian fares north of the ID, decent price, it was a decent choice on nights too lazy for cooking for fancying up for more chic dining places. The owner (I'll refer to him as Fu Man) had always been kind of arrogant and direct. Previously, I had assumed that the owner's stoic and sharp demeanor was a personality that came with the place but then this horrible experience happened: My friend was a big fan of their Hot&Sour soup - he got it every time. On the last day that I would eat at this establishment, my friend, as always, ordered the Hot&Sour soup. This time, he felt that it wasn't spicy as the times before (supposedly he had gotten an order just a few days back so you'd think his memory was fresh), and informed the owner (pleasantly) "I think your Hot&Sour soup today has not enough white pepper, it's not spicy enough." The last thing I expected was a diatribe from Fu Man himself: "How could this be?? If my soup is spicy one day, and not spicy the other, then how would I be managing a business? My soup is the same every day!" he yelled in a very accusing manner. A little put off, my friend tried to deescalate the situation, "Oh, sorry, perhaps I was mistaken. Could I have a little white pepper anyway?" Fu Man walks away. Two minutes later, one of his servers comes back with a sauce bowl filled with a HEAPING MOUNTAIN OF WHITE PEPPER. (like this thing was literally spilling over itself and was more than anyone could possibly consume) The guy drops it down on our table and walks away without a word. Obviously, the mound of pepper was an ironic token to my friend's request. Needless to say, we were totally insulted. Honestly, their food is acceptable, but blatant disregard of customer service simply is not. Sure, the final situation that I had probably is not a common occurrence at this place, but it's really not that far of a stretch from the normal mediocre service that this place offers.

Hands down favorite place for dumplings! Their house garlic sauce is tongue numbingly good! Great service as the owner is usually there taking the order, awesome guy!
(5)Stacey S.
So I live in Virginia which often seems like a food desert when it comes to most Asian cuisines. After eating at Fu Man Dumpling House on the last day of a trip to Seattle, the Asian restaurant scene here in Virginia seems even more dismal! My favorite dumplings now pale in comparison and only make me wish I had easy access to Fu Man. I will also note that this was the day after a wedding and we were feeling, well, a little on the sluggish side. These dumplings were so satisfying! While the traditional dumplings were wonderful, I really loved their larger fried cousins. Even talking about it now I'm scheming how I can get someone to ship dumplings to my house!
(5)Jon Khong K.
Gruff service. No smiles from the owner. He is not very friendly. And If you arrive 30 minutes before closing time, he'll say 'take out only'. Ha! This is the only restaurant I know that has such a 'strange' policy. They've raised their prices, thus are overpriced for a hole-in-the-wall eatery. We've been here a few times, coz we like the taste of the dumplings, but many times he told us to wait for about 20 minutes for a table to be available, which has led us to go somewhere else to eat.
(1)Danny L.
Seriously good. Small space, but mighty good. Killer pot stickers. Great wait staff. I will definitely be back.
(5)Laura L.
What a find! The pan fried dumplings are amazing (especially when drizzled with the very potent garlic sauce), as was the Hot and sour soup! We also loved the BBQ pork fried rice, it was light and delicately flavored, perfect side with the dumplings. Limited seating, but it's worth the wait...or they have takeout.
(4)Jada P.
This is probably the best place in the Seattle to get dumplings. It's a hole-in-the-wall, family owned restaurant, and in my opinion it's wayyy better than any chains like Din Tai Fung. The dumplings are always DELICIOUS. I usually get the boiled dumplings and a side of green onion pancake. I've also tried the steamed buns which are also good. The garlic sauce is a must with the dumplings. Yes, it gives you really bad garlic breath but it's sooo yummy. Whenever you have a dumpling craving Fu Man is definitely the place to go to!
(5)Sarah Z.
The food was okay, but that's all I can say about it. We had pan fried dumpling, an onion pancake, and a pork dumpling. The garlic sauce wasn't as impressive as these other reviewers claim. The server was a little rude to my husband and I, and I don't think we'll go back.
(2)Mindy K.
Pretty darn good. Don't be deceived by the outside or inside state of the restaurant. *Be wary of the HECKBUSY times...you won't get an A+ service. That's kind of given when the servers themselves can barely manage all the customers. Be gentle to them.
(4)Elizabeth T.
Decent place for cheap dumplings. I really like their pan fried potstickers and pork burgers. Their garlic soy sauce is delicious. Parking is limited and gets packed pretty quickly. I recommend getting there when they first open to make sure that you get at least a table. Don't go 30 minutes before they close because they won't make any more dumplings, even if it is for to go. The tall Taiwanese gentleman is a dumpling Nazi about it. I like their new waiter. He's nice. I'd stick with him rather than the tall Taiwanese dude.
(3)Cindy C.
My husband is a boiled dumpling lover. He said one of the key of delicious dumpling is the freshness of the ingredient inside, and the thickness of the dough outside of it. Noted the thickness of the dumpling dough depends on which part of china the chef is from. Personally I like either way. The ingredient here is fresh, and the dumpling dough is middle to thin. Therefore you are able to taste more of the fresh ingredient mix inside of the boiled dumpling. Good place for yummy dumplings!
(4)Flora C.
Little hidden place for dumpling... Too bad, I have to go out of the way to come to this place. Otherwise, I should have come more often for lunch. The dumpling is not bad. You don't feel too greasy or overate afterward. However, the Shanghai stirred noodles is a bit soggy compare to real deal. People loved their special house made garlic sauce. I think it's ok and nothing too special about it. All in all, still not bad.
(3)Aimee K.
I took a couple of my family members to this little hole in the wall recently based on reviews I read here. I don't think I'd have ever heard of it if it hadn't been for yelp.com and I'm sure glad I did! First off, it's a very small place closed on Mondays and on other days closed between 3 - 4:30 pm. If you get here at peak hours, prepare to wait. We lucked out and hit it around 11:30 before the rush came but several parties left to go elsewhere or shared a table with others. The parking is limited also but I imagine you can find it off Greenwood. It was packed and half the patrons were Chinese-speaking. But the main reason to come is fresh, no frills Chinese food. The wait staff is very friendly and funny. One time, I had to wait for my takeout (got there too fast) and they kept offering me water or tea while I sat there! They genuinely seem to enjoy the company of their customers. They start you off with a pickled veggie starter that they put down on the table when you walk in. So far I've tried the Fu-Man special chow mein, some of the signature boiled dumplings and the won ton soup with noodles. The broth in my soup was very tasty, the char shiu had no fat at all on it and the won ton were awesome! My family said the chow mein was the best they'd ever had, but I got some to go one weekend and I found them a lot greasier then I remembered --- but still oh so good! The dumplings, surprisingly, were the least remarkable thing we ate, but I didn't use the garlic sauce which my aunt says made it a lot better. I had some later on as leftovers and for some reason they tasted better then... We didn't have a chance to try anything else, but the beef fried rice looked great too. Update to the above: Tried the boiled dumplings for takeout on a different and I recant. They are something worth visiting Greenwood to get! I wasn't head over heels for the garlic sauce which they included. They are perfect on their own!
(4)Susan C.
I went here last Saturday for dinner with friends. We ordered the pan-fried dumplings (guo tie), and 48 regular dumplings, two orders of the green onion pancakes and a whole chicken for 6 people. I liked the guo tie because it was crispy and the dumplings were huge! We had leftovers too! Very authentic. Even has the garlic with soy sauce combination. A lot of Seattle locals who are Chinese don't know about this place. The sign is small. More parking in the rear.
(4)Dnf D.
After hearing my brother in-law rave about this place for the better part of a year, I decided it was time to see for myself. We ordered the boiled dumplings, steamed buns, chicken chow mein noodles and egg flower soup. It was all very good, but have to say the steamed dumplings were exceptional. The garlicky soy sauce on the table is the perfect compliment to the dumplings. Now I'm looking forward to exploring more of the menu on our next outing here! The dining area is a fairly small space, but the tables seem to open quickly and you're seated within 10 minutes or so.
(4)Elle D.
Their dumplings are scrumptious! Very light and fluffy wrapping with tender pork and chives. I also love their chow mein. The food taste a bit sweet to me and that's the way how I love it! The restaurant itself is a hole in the wall. It is cheap but it is still kind of more on the pricey side for a non-fancy place. The garlic sauce is good but I am also wondering how sanitary it is because it was just sitting on the table and you don't know how many people got to it before you. Imagine people double dipping. Gross. Oh well, I gotten over my fear and soaked my delicious dumplings into it. 15 minutes later after dinner, I drank a bubble tea and a couple glasses of water. Yes, I definitely believe it was a whole load of msg in there. It is still good and they will definitely be seeing me more often. :)
(5)Joe T.
The food was awesome. We had the dumplings and chow mein. However the service could definitely be improved. kind of reminded me of the Soup Nazi episode. Also some customers had a 30 min wait until seated and weren't allowed to leave otherwise they'd lose their place in line. Who does that?
(3)Allan G.
I don't know what the hell it is about this place. I get random cravings for the garlic sauce in the middle of the night, and although it seems hole in the wall like, the food is something out of the extraordinary. Whenever I go, I order the ma po tofu, steamed pork dumplings, house special fried rice and the green onion pancakes. I usually like waiting until everything arrives and then get a piece of everything on my place and just drench it all with the garlic sauce. You have to drench everything in garlic sauce. I'm sure it's probably bad but my tongue goes numb after having all that garlic sauce after dinner. But I guess it's for my own good and I'm sure it's probably from all the sodium/msg or something, I don't know. Keep in mind that this place is very small, if you plan to come in with 4+ people, don't count on getting seated soon or at all, the place gets so busy and there's barely enough tables to seat 4 people a time.
(5)C Y.
I wanted to visit here based on the reviews I've read. We ordered - Pan Fried Dumplings - Hot and Sour Soup (Large) - House Special Fried Rice The dumplings were approx. $9 so we thought it's pricey at first. But they were 6 big pieces and it was extra tasty while they were still crispy. We took home the half of the soup and the half of the fried rice. Overall we liked their foods very much.
(4)Maria Elena K.
I really liked the crispy dumplings and the combo fried rice. Every other dumpling/ hamburger was just the same thing but in a different presentation and not pan fried. The pan frying of the crispy dumpling really makes a difference.
(3)Samuel H.
Two times I have had the pleasure of dining at Fu Man Dumpling house. First off, the service is great. Very friendly staff; you can tell they truly enjoy creating a great dining experience for their customers. Not only is the service exceptional, but also the food is to die for. I have tried their Chow Mein, Dumplings, Pot Stickers, Pancakes, Chicken, Fried Rice, and much more. Most restaurants seem to have "specialty" dishes, but Fu Man truly does a remarkable job with every single item on their menu. I highly recommend this restaurant. Enjoy!
(5)Peter S.
We ordered family style and had a fabulous meal. We enjoyed the dumplings, hot & sour soup, pork buns, and the pancake. The garlic sauce on the table is yummy - just get some breath mints!
(4)Star F.
Best dumplings I've ever had--especially with the Garlic Sauce! The place is a bit small but service is great and while you wait for your food you get a small pickled veggie plate. Highly recommend the dumplings and green onion pancake...with garlic sauce of course. My fiancé recommends the Fu Man Special Fried Rice.
(5)Meana K.
I don't get it. How does a dumpling house only have one type of dumplings? And while the dumplings (pork/veggie) were homemade and decent, they were nothing special. You get 12 for $7.95, but they are smaller and skimpier than other places I've been. They also weren't as flavorful. Perhaps I should have had them pan fried, which isn't really what I seek out at a place that considers itself a dumpling house. I am a dumpling addict, and this place really let me down after all the great reviews I read. To me, an authentic dumpling house has a variety of fillings and the dumplings have thicker skin. Fu Man's dumplings were pretty paper thin and fell apart easily, and the only thing noteworthy about the dumplings was the garlic soy sauce that many others on Yelp raved about. Did I like the garlic soy? Yes. Did I find it to be the appropriate compliment to the dumplings? Not at all. I wanted some chili oil and vinegar to mix with the soy. Out of fairness, the service was friendly enough, they provided me with a pot of tea and a pickled salad, and they had a pretty decent menu of other options which I didn't try. I used the restroom, and it was clean enough. I saw a girl at a table next to me pick out a long clumpy strand of hair from her food. It potentially could have been her own, but she wasn't convinced of it. All of that aside, I just can't get over how this place considers themselves a dumpling house when their dumplings are unremarkable, about as good as what you'd expect to get at any old Chinamerican joint at the mall or airport. Ugh. So disappointing. Seattle, please point me to some good dumplings!!

We recently had dinner here this past week and I thought it was quite delicious. Comforting. I had heard really good things about the place and was dying to try it, On top of that, that day I didn't have time for lunch - so was starving when we got there, We ordered: 1) hot and sour soup, 2) chicken chow mein w extra vegetables, 3) 24 pork and vegetable dumplings - boiled, and 4) green onion pancake, The items that were a home run for me (and my brother), was the hot and sour soup and the chicken chow mein. When we ate the chow mein, my brother and I both looked at each other and thought - wow, tastes like the noodles from our favorite place in our hometown in NY. Had not been able to find noodles like that around here anywhere in Seattle - until now! :) In fact, getting hungry just thinking about them right now. My BF's favorites were the dumplings - also very good. The super garlic soy sauce is super duper garlic-y and tasty. :) Green onion pancakes - I prefer'em thinner, lighter, and crispy - these were too thick and "doughy" for me. Would most definitely go back.
(4)Mark S.
Homemade dumpling and garlic sauce - so good.
(4)Amber T.
Love their dumplings ! and the owner is so nice and friendly. : ) Yummy dumplings!!!
(5)Joseph M.
Love love love this place!!! It is seriously in a bad location and this is actually a good thing because it doesn't get super busy. As many have stated the garlic sauce is what makes this place awesome along with their dumplings. We almost always also get the hot and sour soup and have also tried the fu man noodles. Everything so far has just been fantastic!!
(5)Amol B.
Definitely will go again. Gotta love those dumplings - tasty and enormous sized. The black sauce - I think garlic and maybe some ginger - goes great with the food. The green onion pancakes were great. The veggie dish that came to our table was also very good. I will skip the buns because I thought the wrap was too thick. Space is tiny and there's a good chance there will be a wait for the table.

Pretty tastey Chinese food. Authentic yet tastey, not too greasy, good price. I appreciate the free appetizers- pickled veggies! yum! BUT eat them at a steady pace- because the second plate you'll be charged for- not like korean side dishes! The service is definitely very chinese- "take it or leave it" attitude, they could probably work on that... MUST orders: - Pot stickers -Green Onion Pancake -Hot & Sour Soup -House special chow mein Not to forget their infamous garlic sauce...lots of it!!! on EVERYTHING! Definitely a hole in the wall treasure....for North Seattle.
(4)Katy H.
Crazy delicious. I ate food here more than 6 hours ago and I still have garlic breath!
(4)Alex T.
I always get kind of anxious and weirded out with chinese restaurants with strange names. If you know anything about fu manchu, you know that he's this scary evil Asian cartoon character that proliferated Asian American stereotypes. ASIDE from that, this place is delicious! I never knew that this place existed like 5 minutes from my house, but it's basically a Taiwanese establishment that serves dumplings, and other dishes. Not just any dumplings. Hand-made dumplings. You can tell because of the way they fold them; each one is individually made. We also ordered their fried rice which was pretty good and standard, but I was a little weirded out by the wonton soup we ordered. Growing up Cantonese, this isn't the typical wonton mein you normally get, the noodles are different and the dumplings are completely different. But once again, this is a Taiwanese place so I guess I should expect different types of food. Anyhow, small establishment, but it's clean! Service is also pretty nice too.
(4)Andrea S.
My family and I lovingly refer to this place as "Fu Manchu", which might be appropriate since their signature garlic sauce is possibly strong enough to induce the growth of facial hair. I've been here a couple times, and I would say it's overall a good place. However, there's a few items that really hit the spot! Pan-fried potstickers are delish-- I love them nice and crispy, and they do not disappoint! Everyone praises the hot and sour soup, which is good, but what's even better is the everything noodle soup!!!! It has this beautiful and light chicken broth (it's similar to eggflower soup), chock full of various veggies and meats. Mmmmm, it's perfect on a cloudy, Seattle day (which means I might be here quite often :P). The ma po tofu is decent as well-- I ordered it medium and definitely felt the heat; I had to take off my jacket! I would give them 5 stars, but it seems that their prices keep raising higher and higher, that I think the "$" price range is inappropriate and misleading. For example, 6 potstickers are currently fetching for $8.35; according to the yelp price range, one $ is equivalent to a meal less than $10, including a drink and tip. But I suppose you can make it work, depending on what you order since the noodles and fried rice are around $9, and large soups between $6-9. Also, if you're a bit claustrophobic, I highly recommend take-out.

I had high hopes for this place but it was just alright. Like most people said the store is really small, not a lot of seating. On a Thursday we didn't have to wait. We asked the server what we should order and he wasn't helpful. He told us all of the things on the menu was good, we asked for his favorites and he told us everything on the menu was his favorite.... Thanks The dumplings were okay, they were more meaty then what I'm use to. We also ordered their hot and sour soup, it wasn't very spicy and I felt like something was missing. Our last dish was a chow mein it was okay, nothing to write home about. Besides being super unhelpful when we asked them what to order they were surprisingly attentive to tables. We never had to ask for a refill on water or tea and they even came over and asked us if we needed more napkins. Though this place had a decent price for the amount of food we got I probably won't be back.
(3)Nancy C.
Another phenomenal Yelp find! Not easy to find - drove by twice and finally found parking in the back. Restuarant is a dump and was packed but I wasn't here for the ambience. The dumplings were fantastic and the garlic sauce was like liquid crack! The pot stickers were huge and amazing. The soup was just ok (but that's not what you come here for). DH and kids loved the house chow mein - I found them better than most places. DH wanted to go back the next day...... that's saying alot. Will definitely be back soon!
(5)Lynn K.
Heard great things about this place Drove all the way up here during what we expected would be open hours (as posted on yelp), arrived with an empty growling stomach, left with one as well. The place was closed when it said it would be open, I was not happy. If you decide to eat here, I suggest you call the place first to double check that it is INDEED OPEN.

Been going to this place for the past 5 years - dishes are consistently good but recent service and ethics are in questions. Left my tote bag with iPad, check book, car/house keys, etc under my chair - call owner 15 min later and it was gone. Had to call police and broke a home windows to get into our house. Restaurant is small 10x12 and was not busy at the time - owner and staff had to see my bag when they rearrange the small table back. Came back to restaurant and owner was not helpful and insisted we leave and try tracking it ourselves. Wouldn't even let us check the rear restroom. Wow! Mind your bags and belonging if you must venture to Fu Man.
(2)Kevin C.
Delicious dumplings amongst other things. This place is really small, so if you come here during peak hours, expect to wait. The same guy mans the front every time, I think he is the owner. He provides really good, discreet service, and has good manners. He even brought my friend and I napkins when we didn't ask for them, but were getting close to using ours' up. Things that are really good here: Green onion pancake Potstickers Dumplings. and make sure you use lots of garlic sauce, just chew gum after.
(4)Lucynda C.
Dumplings and pancakes were amazing. Chow mein was good. Brought my 2 year old, servers were attentive and responsive to all our 2 year old needs=priceless!
(5)Victorious W.
You know what makes me come back to a place? The people. You know what makes me not come back to a place? That's right, the people. I came here late one day (an hour before they closed) and decided to eat in because I just moved to the area and had no eating utensils. The owner (who looks like an Asian Arnold Schwarzenegger) ... Well, I had something funny to say, but I started this review a year ago. The only thing I remember about this place is that it sucked and I am glad I don't live in the area anymore :-)
(2)Stan F.
We have been back a few times since the first time that we went here. Each time, we order their chow mein which seems to be a hit with our family as well as each time we bring it to a pot luck. This is one of the first meals to be devoured when sharing with others. We usually get the chicken and the pork chow mein. They vary a little in terms of how much flavor they add and how greasy. Sometimes the sauce or flavor is sooooo good that it is hard not to eat this food. Then, we decided to order dumplings to go. When we had dumplings at the restaurant they were just okay. But, for some reason it was either the batch was much better or the fact that we had them refrigerated and ate them later in the day or the garlic dipping sauce was better or all of the above, but they were just as scrumptuous as the chow meins that we order to go. I have to upgrade my review to 5 stars because of how good it really can be and how much other people that we share the food with always ask where we got the food from and how much they liked it.
(5)Jacob F.
Oh nelly, Mama like. Came with three , ordered for four, and licked it all clean- though don't let that speak poorly of the portions. Everything was superb and the staff was attentive and friendly. The onion pancake was a crowd favorite. FuMan is where it's at, man.

SCAM ALERT: REQUEST A RECEIPT FOR YOUR CREDIT CARD CHARGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I called ahead for takeout last Friday which was Feb 10th. I only ordered 1/2 chicken, nothing else. The total was $10.90. I did not tip, I sometimes do for take out but am really short this month and just filled in $10.90 on the bottom line. I did not get a receipt. I know this because I thought about it as I was walking out and shrugged it off. I just checked my bank statement and I was charged $15.90 on Feb 13th. I called and was told I need my receipt for a refund. It was the same guy that I talked to when I called in the order and when I picked it up. I think he is the owner. Of course he knows I don't have a receipt because he is not in the habit of giving them out to people. Nice profit margin for a scrawny chicken. The order was ready in time. The chicken was tasty but really small. I only just discovered this place and have only been here three times. Too bad I will not return, I don't tolerate cheats and I believe this was intentional skimming.

This restaurant has a tiny, tiny space which was completely full around 8PM on a friday night. The stern, Asian man barked at us with "20 minute wait" the moment we stepped in. My sister and I decided to order take out instead, and he made a minor jab, asking us why we hadn't ordered on the phone. We got our food in 10-15 minutes and our order of 20 dumplings were decently sized and pretty good. The garlic sauce has a SUPER strong garlic after taste, but it was worth it. Overall, decent food, kinda rude reception. Eh.

This place seems to be popular with many locals around North Seattle, based on so many positive Yelp reviews. So I was willing to give this place a try and expected a delicious meal with great tasting dumplings. To the Yelpers giving this Chinese restaurant either 4 or 5 stars... SERIOUSLY?! Try a place like Seven Star Peppers in d/t Seattle. It's such a huge difference in both quality of ingredients, variety of dishes, and most importantly, TASTE!! If you want the best Chinese BBQ pork or roast pork dishes around Seattle , then go to Kau Kau also in d/t. For far tastier dumplings at a better price (20 for about $6), there's Sichuanese Cuisine in both d/t and over in Redmond. Let's talk about the experience at Fu-Man's Dumpling House... First thing anyone comparing the menu posted in pictures on Yelp will notice is that the prices have gone up considerably. Compared with the aforementioned restaurants, this place is actually pricier! But I was willing to disregard that if the food tasted great. My girl and I ordered the special combo fried rice, boiled dumplings, green onion pancake, and BBQ pork. Portion sizes were similar to the other restaurants, but the taste was a major disappointment :( The boiled dumplings are rather flavorless with their pork filling and the sauce is unimpressive. When the waiter noticed my expression, he came over and encouraged me to use their house garlic soy sauce on the side of the table. I tried it and as much as I love garlic, the sauce still tasted uninspired with barely a hint of garlic flavor. It tasted more like thicker syrupy soy sauce with some texture from the minced garlic. I looked over at the waiter, a friendly Caucasian man in his 50s, and he explained that some customers like to put the sauce on every dish. Really?! Could the food be so bad that a sauce is needed to add flavor? I learned that the answer was a resounding YES! The fried rice and BBQ pork were equally disappointing. The green onion pancake tasted alright, but priced at twice what restaurants in d/t charge for the same portion. My palette for Chinese food has become refined after making good Chinese friends who enjoy eating and also marrying a Chinese American girl with an appreciation for delicious foods. In just our Northwest region, we've traveled from Portland to Vancouver BC to enjoy local cuisine. I really need to share more reviews with people because there are some truly amazing places to eat out there, and then there are disappointments like this place that really don't deserve the praise it has received. Seriously fellow Yelpers, explore some of those other Chinese restaurants. There's a much better dining experience waiting for you. Fu-Man can't even make dumplings that taste better than dumplings my wife and I made from a recipe we found online. The same recipe's dipping sauce tastes far better as well. Of course, it's a labor of love to put them together so going out for dumplings is often preferable. Never again at Fu-Man's! What a disappointment :(
(2)Allie S.
I come here for the garlic sauce. The dumplings and potstickers are delicious, the portion sizes are ample, and they bring a plate of kimchi-esque pickled veggies while you wait for the entree. They are very eager to please and provide you with a delicious product... I would say the dumplings are more meaty than I am used to eating, but they're so well prepared I don't see it as a bad thing! Their fried rice is delicious and filling, too! But for the most part, if a restaurant has dumpling in its name... I'm gonna want dumplings. Fu Man does not disappoint, I'd much rather go here than an overhyped, overpriced Din Tai Fung.
(4)Jean Y.
The dumplings (more specifically, water dumplings or siu jiao, since the word "dumpling" is so overloaded) are YUMMY. Big and tasty ;) The best I have had in Seattle. Fu Man sells their homemade dumplings uncooked for takeout as well, but you must call one day in advance to place an order since the dumplings are made fresh based on demand. Noodles, of the thick and doughy variety, are satisfying. Hot and sour soup has a strong white pepper flavor which I like, but it may not appeal to everyone. Beef-filled dumpling (niu ro xien bing), leek dumplings (jiu cai he zi), and green onion pancake are all decent. I was skeptical when I was introduced to Fu Man since it's in an isolated location near divey joints and since the servers the first time I came here didn't speak Chinese. However, appearances can be deceiving. Now I am a loyal fan. Not in a convenient location for me, but I will continue to brave the drive for tasty siu jiao!! Nothing as good in the ID.

I've been here twice since I started this review. Both times have been great! It's a tiny restaurant in a tiny strip between two gas stations on upper Greenwood. Easily missed. There are 3-4 parking spots right in front (do not park in front of the business next door, you know they are watching you) but there is a huge parking lot behind the building. The sketchy bar is no longer. The resto holds maybe 2 dozen diners, we were immediately seated upon entrance. Maybe I found the magic window where there's no wait? We've ordered the pork dumplings, BBQ pork chow mein, and green onion pancake. They bring out hot tea and a small plate of three pickled, not-really-spicy, items--cabbage, carrots, and tiny pickles! The green onion pancake takes 20mins but that time goes by fast because the dumplings and chow mein arrives lickety-split! I'm a fan of the brown sauce in the jar on the table. It's kind of sweet and savory, not spicy at all (reading other reviews suggests this is a garlic sauce). There is also a more traditional hot chili sauce on the table as well. The dumplings are chewy, soft, fluffy, and flavorful! The chow mein is insane. It's a huge plate with veggies and BBQ pork that probably serves 4 people. The green onion pancake was a bit tough for my preference so that was the only 'just ok' part of the meal. Service was really fast, nice, and attentive. They'll box up your leftovers and pack up a small container of the garlic sauce for you too. The check was ridiculously cheap at under $25 for the three items (which serve 4 ppl). I'm almost ready to upgrade my relationship with them by adding them to my speed dial!

This restaurant is pretty small, there are about eight tables total, I think. I came with Lisa N. for lunch on a weekday because we had both read great reviews about this place. To be honest, I thought the prices were pretty high... for dumplings =/ Maybe I'm just used to the boil-it-yourself kind from 99 Ranch but I will say that the hot n' sour soup was mighty delicious! We shared 10 or so dumplings (they were big though) and a semi-large bowl of soup, oh and the green onion pancake. The pancake wasn't exactly what I was expecting but it still tasted pretty good. I really liked their soy sauce so I kept dipping the pancake in that. The dumplings were overall just OK but the soup was great. The service is really good though! Seems like a family-owned restaurant so that's always good to know.
(3)Lakshmi K.
We went there yesterday for lunch and had a wonderful meal. The garlic sauce was pungent and delicious!! We ordered boiled dumplings, pan fried potstickers, green onion pancake, mixed vegetables and steamed buns. We liked all of it except the steamed buns. The dumplings and the green onion pancake were the best!!
(4)Shige A.
Boiled dumplings - 3.5: It's got really good ginger kick to it and also got decent amount of juice from the meat in the dumplings. Chow mein - 2.5: A bit too greasy. Greasiness overpowered seasonings. Vegetables in the noodles tasted pretty good.
(3)velma v.
Love love love this place! We have never had anything that was not fantastic here! Dumplings and chow mein are the best!
(5)O G.
BUYER BEWARE! The menu Yelp has online does NOT have accurate prices listed! I love dumplings, and heard about this place, and called in an order for what I thought was $20 worth of food that my husband picked up on his way home. When he got home he asked why I had ordered $50 worth of dumplings! I called in and they explained that the menu online was inaccurate, and they're not the ones who put it up on Yelp. Everything we ordered was roughly twice as much as Yelp says it is. The food was okay. The egg drop soup was nothing special, but it was fine, and if you get it with dumplings it's a lot of food, so that was the one fairly priced item. The green onion pancake was good, but at $9 I was still underwhelmed. The garlic sauce was really delicious. Everything else (including the burger which I was really excited to try) was just okay, except the steamed buns which weren't even okay - really chewy and unappetizing. I could have bought a bag of pot stickers in the frozen aisle at Safeway and been just as impressed. For $20 I would have been perfectly happy for a take out meal and an excuse not to cook, but for $50 I would never ever ever go here again. Ever.
(3)Sonia C.
The dumplings are fine, but it's the green onion pancakes that really stand out. They're about 2x as thick as normal scallion pancakes, and fried crispy on the outside yet still chewy & dough on the inside.
(3)Johnnie L.
Solid for the north end. Dumpling are good, clean non greasy. House special chowmein was good not a lot of meat noodles a little on the mushier side. Roasted chicken was really good, sauce had a little sweetness and a little tang. I guess its served cold, and chicken was moist and tender. Door is tinted, didn't know which door was for the dumplings or for the medical marijuana next door!
(4)Jocelyn H.
Love their dumplings here! Wish that the place was bigger as every time I have been there has always been a long time, but trust me it is worth the wait! Their garlic sauce is awesome too!
(4)buck w.
This was kind of a disappointment. After reading all the rave reviews I was let down. It is a dumpling house so I ordered some dumplings. The dumpling are great big with a large amount of meat on the inside. The star of the show should be the meaty goodness on the inside but it's not. It's just a big blob of meat with no real taste to it just a mouth full of blah. Everybody is raving about the garlic soy sauce . It is soy sauce infused with garlic whipdiddedo what a accomplishment you put garlic in soy sauce your a genius. How about getting a proper heating system a little portable electric heater in the dinning room isn't really cutting the mustard.
(2)Brian T.
Was deliberating about whether or not this place gets a 3 star or 4 star rating. Looking at the current distribution it seems like most people decided between 4 and 5. 3's aren't so popular. So let me explain myself. I love dumplings. Seriously though, who doesn't? I've had good dumplings in my day, and I've also had bad dumplings. Fu Man's are simply OK in my book. They weren't as flavorful as I was hoping. Even the trapped "juice" inside didn't have any particularly strong or memorable qualities to it. The garlic sauce definitely helps, but isn't a magic elixir that turns the dumplings into diamonds. The hot and sour soup (also mentioned heavily in reviews) is definitely good. "Best" is tough though. I would have it again. I would not call it "best". Big fan of the green onion pancake though. Hot off the griddle and it's thick and tasty. I personally prefer the thinner and more airy variety, but would recommend everyone try one of these here. I also like how many dishes are served family style including the soup. Good and would go back. Just not sure I'd go back multiple times a week.
(3)Mina M.
One word: yum! We have been coming here for years and the food is consistently delicious. Don't skip the garlic sauce, it is absolutely amazing and the garlic breath is a small price to pay. The owner is very friendly and the gods in the kitchen always get the food out quickly.
(5)Rachel T.
These guys are the dumpling Nazi's. It's hilarious. Don't piss them off and ruin your means of a dumpling fix. Also, super-spectacular green onion pancakes and the sauce is unbelievable. The chow mien was delish. Highly recommended. Holding back on the 5th star because it's really hard to get on their schedule - you never know if they're going to let you in and serve you.
(4)Nate M.
Yum to the limit. Very inexpensive, very tasty. I try to go there every time I buy beer ingredients at Cellar Homebrew. My favs are the boiled dumplings, wont ton soup, and beef chow mein. yum yum yum yum
(4)Dae Y.
my 2nd time there. 1st time there we got there during the mid-day close. so we had to order it, take it away, then eat it standing up in the parking lot in the back. in the rain. was for lunch. this time: went with my honey bunny, sat inside, went for dinner. i absolutely love the garlic soy sauce. it's got so much garlic in it, it will burn your tongue. generally, a very good place. chow mein was pretty good. we like to call it our hole in the wall version of Din Tai Fung. you gotta try it!
(4)Jason B.
It's all about the sauce! GARLIC ginger dumpling sauce that leaves a spicy sting in your mouth...MMMM! I love the green onion potato pancakes, and of course the dumplings!
(5)J T.
Pros: Taste Cons: parking waiting crowding Attitude I have only been there once and never go back. Honestly speaking, the food was quite good. But it was not good enough for me to wait for parking and seating spaces. And six of us needed to be packed at a tiny table. The waiter/owner certainly didn't respect our choice. Good luck for those who dare to order something he doesn't like.
(3)Eric B.
Love this place. Garlic sauce for dumplings is awesome! The special chow mien is great too. Lots of chicken, pork and shrimp. These guys don't skimp! ! !
(5)Aaron C.
It's all about the GARLIC sauce on your dumplings here. You can't go wrong with the steam and pan fry dumplings, anything else order at your own risk.
(4)Theresa D.
Fu Man Dumpling House has been one of those places that I always drive by, but have never had the chance of trying since the bf has always vetoed Fu Man as an option. So one day, I bit the bullet, and got myself a to go order. Trust me, I didn't regret it. I started off with the boiled dumplings and an order of fried rice. I won't say I was amaaazed by the dumplings, but they were good, and were pretty reasonably priced. For that, I give the man props. The Fu Man, I mean! The fried rice and chow mein are delicious! They're not your typical fried rice or chow mein, it just seems so much more....heavenly :-) I hope this review helps you find your way to the dumpling man. Cuz that man gives you good food!
(4)Molly T.
Just tried Fu Man for the first time after I had heard such rave reviews word-of-mouth. I was not let down. It was three of us and we ordered 24 dumplings to share, a large bowl of the spinach tofu egg flower soup and a large bowl of the hot and spicy noodle soup. The soups were great, not too salty and generous on the ingredients (I hate overly broth-y soups). The dumplings were exactly what I was hoping for. Flavorful alone but made even better with the garlic sauce. The menu is small which I liked and the service was much better than I was expecting. Whoever was serving us (seemed like head honcho) was in good spirits and the food was delivered in a timely manner despite the warning on the menu that it might take awhile. Also I felt the prices were pretty standard, it was about $13/person and that is including the generous tip. I had a great time at Fu Man and will be returning!
(4)pete h.
I really like the fried dumplings at this place. The steamed ones are good as well but not as good as the fried ones. The hot and sour soup is also quite good, they have little strands of bok choy in the soup which is very unique. The place is small, only a handful of tables with maybe room for 25-30 at the most. On certain days, such as weekends, be prepared to wait for a table. They also have a take out service that is quite busy as well. So there the place is packed, then it maybe wise to have take-out. On yeah, one thing to be aware of is the garlic sauce, you're going to have garlic breath for at least the next 4 hours! So you may want to think twice if you've got nightcap afterwards!
(4)Momiko S.
GARLIC SAUCE! Homemade Dumplings! They lose a star because of SPACE, PARKING, LOCATION, HOURS and they don't seem to care if you want to eat there or not. But the GARLIC SAUCE and the DUMPLINGS!! GO NOW!! Enjoy!
(4)Alice R.
If you are craving delicious fresh made dumplings, this is THE spot. We ordered a dozen dumplings, hot & sour soup and the beef sandwich to share. Everything was very good. You can tell the dumplings are freshly made and the sauce that goes with it is so darn good. It adds just the right amount of brightness and kick. The hot & sour soup was also very fresh tasting and a bit peppery, but still very good. The beef sandwich is kind of like a fresh vietnamese bun sandwich with beef, cucumbers and parsley, except that instead of french bread it is rolled in a green onion flat pancake. It made it very light and tasty. We arrived when it was empty but in about 15 minutes, every table was taken. The place looks like it is very popular with the surrounding businesses. Service didn't waver one bit despite the number of customers. In fact, we got up to go pay at the counter to sort of help out since it was busy and he insisted we go back and sit down. Very good service on top of good food. One added thing I loved was the cooks in the back having these loud conversations. It sounds like bickering but I'm sure they were just talking about the news or something. It reminded me of Sam Wo's in San Francisco. Except at Sam Wo's, surly service is part of the experience.
(5)Arden L.
The one star is for getting the dumplings right. Mostly, although waaaay over priced. And no vinegar?! That's like selling hot dogs without the ketchup and mustard. Wonton soup noodles: I have no idea what that bowl of monstrosity was but it was NOT wonton. Pork Steam Buns (aka xiao long bao): If you were going to call the dish "little steam soup buns in bamboo steamer" they better be that. Not these guys. They were not tiny, did not come in a bamboo steamer nor did they have soup inside. Ew. If I ever go back it would be I crave dumplings. Not sure if that'll happen.
(1)Dan F.
Update: had the shredded pork soup last night... how do they manage to spice everything so perfectly? Definitely top of of the -go-to list.
(5)Tracy M.
Bloody fantastic! Hidden in a random strip on Greenwood around 145th, but there's ample parking lot behind their building. Small little place, PACKED with flavor. The man who always seems to be there (the owner?) is lovely...efficient and friendly, makes a small joke as he delivers the food and leaves you to the delicious delicious task of eating. When dining in, you get a pot of tea and a lovely plate of pickled vegetables to nibble on while waiting...they're quite yummy. I just realized I've not ever had their dumplings, but it's ALL about the home-made noodles here. Food is served as it is prepared, so just start eating as things arrive. The Potstickers are THE BEST I have ever eaten (made fresh on site!). And always always order the green onion pancake, too. Mmmmm. We always get these two dishes and then pick a different third. Never been disappointed. There's a jar of the most amazing GARLIC SAUCE on each table...it's lovely and complex flavor...doesn't start off over-powering; just delicious. But about 20 minutes after your meal you'll be sweating garlic, and so glad you did!!! The soups have been wonderfully flavorful, too. Not just generic broth, there's a lot going on in each bowl. And somehow, leftovers the next day are just as good (if not a bit better) as they've had a chance to marinate. Also, with 24 hours notice, you can get frozen potstickers to take home with you.

Being a newly turned Vegetarian, I am heartbroken that I won't be eating at Fu Man Dumpling House that often anymore. In my carnivorous dreams, I crave their meaty meaty goodness pork dumplings and pork buns. To be fair, I have only ordered the same three dishes every time I go, so other dishes might be different. Head this advice and order the pork dumplings and buns (like I've already mentioned), and the mapo tofu. Their mapo tofu is far superior than anything similar I ate in China. Yes the food is pretty authentic, but their garlic sauce takes the cake. It makes your taste buds dance and sing and gives you a reason to keep stuffing your pie hole with dumplings. Beware though that the garlic will remain in your breath probably until the next morning. The service here is pretty great as well. They're fast to seat you and take your order (even if you need to wait awhile for the food to come out). But the folks here are nice and attentive. I'm taking off one star selfishly because I live near downtown Seattle and Fu Man is a lengthy drive just for dinner. But if you have the opportunity to go, I guarantee you'll be back for more. Good for: home cooked, comfort Chinese food. Not good for: a quick meal, romantic date (the garlic!!)
(4)Alan W.
An abomination! This is not a Chinese place. Some white guy must've seen a restaurant for sale on craigslist and bought it because it feels nothing like any "Dumpling House" I've ever seen. The Chinese on the menu is wrong. The dumplings, wontons, and steamed buns are all the exact same thing, just with different wrapping on top of the oversized meat ball. We're not in Little Italy. Also, the food is bland and soggy. The server stares at you the whole time and tries to rush you off grabbing your plates when you take a breath from eating. Next time, I'll stay home and microwave some frozen dumplings.

Awesome! We come here every few months or every bday occasion. Always reliable food and flavors!

I have been to this place many many times, and I have tried most of the dish on the menu. The best dish for me is still the boiled dumplings. The filing is a well balance flavor of pork, ginger and vegetables. The filling was always blended well so it has great texture under bite. The dumpling wrap is on the soft side, and I always hope the dough could have had less water added and kneaded longer. But considering how popular the little place is, and how much work is required to make a perfect dumpling wrap, so I don't complain, and I do feel happy when I can still eat good hand-made fresh dumplings. I always order a bag of frozen dumplings as emergency food at home. It is much better than any of the frozen dumplings sold in 99 Ranch. The owner is super friendly. The service is swift.

I finally tried this place after hearing great things. It is a pretty small inside so probably not the best place for a big party. The food... So unbelievably good! I feel like Seattle, in general, has pretty horrible Chinese food but this place is fantastic. The dumplings were delish. We also tried the chow mein which let me start out by saying that I am not a fan of chow mein in general but this was some of the best chow mein I have ever had. Everything tasted homemade. At most Asian restaurants the ingredients seem to either be out of package or frozen goods which you could purchase at your local Qfc. Not this place. I will definitely go back.

Wow! My fellow reviewers are spot on about the garlic sauce. It is delicious, but you will also wake up the next morning with a pungent flavor in your mouth despite all the altoids, mouth wash, and tooth brushing you might have completed before bed. We ordered the hot n' sour soup, green onion pancakes, and of course, the dumplings. It was plenty of food for 2, and we particularly enjoyed the pancakes. The prices were reasonable and the service was friendly. We'll be back!

Fu Man is moving back up in my star ratings. Feels a lot warmer in the last "several" visits! Only thing missing is beer/wine!

I appreciate you, Fu! I appreciate your easy parking. I appreciate how angry you look but how pleasant you are. I appreciate that you're busy enough to make my conversations inaudible, but not too busy where I have to wait long to be seated. I appreciate your tender-lovin' dumplings! Steamed and fried, no matter, both exquisite. I appreciate your MaPaTofu. Velvety. Enough spice to make it so nice. I appreciate your pancakes. Crunchy-soft combo like a Crunch Wrap Supreme but less fake meat and more Asian-y. I appreciate your reasonable prices. I appreciate that I don't hate myself after each meal. I miss you right now! I uh-pre-she-ate-ewe, Man, Fu!!

Came here on a Friday around 6pm with some friends. I read such good reviews about this and it sounded like a good place to try out. This is definitely NOT a good place for groups...I believe there was only enough space for about 25 people or so. We came at a pretty good time, because as soon as we sat down, 4 groups came and had to wait about 30 minutes or so. We ordered 6 dishes (to try and then an additional 2 dishes) and it came out to about $60 which is pretty good! We ordered the won ton soup which we figured would be different dumplings, but they tasted exactly the same and it had tons of veggies. We ordered the chow mein(?) and it was ok...it was on the greasy side. We ordered steamed dumplings and pan fried dumplings. The pan fried dumplings are way better in my opinion. It's filled with pork, veggies and some green onions? We used the chili oil and their DELICIOUS GARLIC SAUCE! We also ordered the pork hamburger which was good...a little bland but putting some of the garlic sauce definitely made it more tasty! My friend liked the pan fried dumplings so much she ordered another order for us and order for a friend to take home. Make sure you eat the pan fried dumplings ASAP. On the way home they weren't as delicious...but it will definitely give you smelly burps :) so probably not a good date idea haha

We arrived starved at 2:37pm and were told take out only, even though the restaurant closes at 3pm. All we wanted was a dozen boiled gyoza, yet the owner/manager steadfastly refused to accommodate us (especially considering that we've dined here on numerous occasions with friends and family in the past.). Unfortunately, out of sheer principle and personal dismay, I'll never return.

I have an affinity for dumplings and this place definitely satisfied my cravings. The place is a hole in the wall goodness. They hand make all their dumplings and it tastes delicious. The only thing is they're super heavy on the garlic but I guess it's good for your immune system :P I would call ahead or go early for seats. Turnovers are fast but they're also super busy on weekends

Very good. I've been looking for a proximal dumpling joint to my location. This place is close and good. Steamed Pork Buns are meaty inside, unlike my limited experience w/ Hum Bao. Steamed Pork dumplings/potstickers are great too. Food is nicely spiced w/ good dips. I like the garlic sauce, though I wasn't terminally afflicted w/ garlic breath. Hot and Sour soup is great too. Might try the green onion pancakes next time. Young man behind the counter and the silver haired man running the front end of the shop we're very cordial and nice...gave me a glass of tea while I waited. Like Arnold said..."I'll be back", though I'll probably park in the back again vs drive through the front door :-)

I arrived a little late with a bunch of friends already having ordered for me, so I can't comment on the dining service or the speed of the food. What I can comment on is the excellent authentic presentation and sumptuous, generous amount of food given. The dumplings are made to a northern style similar to how my family made in Shandong, so the stuffing is larger and not a dense meatball, with a nice balance of chives and veggies with the meat, and not too oily. The pan fried and the regular boiled dumplings all were made to perfection, with dough that actually has a pleasant taste instead of being a floppy tasteless wrapping. I was wowed that they had traditional Chinese pickles on the side to munch on with the dumplings. The garlic sauce, as many have noted, is amazing, but a little too powered I and I diluted it down with a bit of vinegar. One knock against the restaurant's northern Chinese credentials is the lack of black vinegar, instead opting for red vinegar common to Cantonese and dim sum restaurants. My friends also ordered fried rice for some inexplicable reason at a dumpling joint - it was nothing to write home about. It's also a small space so it can get busy and crowded. I didn't know there was parking in the back, but thank goodness they do otherwise it's hard to gather friends here. Service was prompt and excellent so this is definitely the new standard for dumplings in the area by my book!

Super small family business. Absolutely the best hot and sour soup I've ever had. They start out with a small plate of kimchee, also delicious. The special is the dumplings though. Superb. I got a special soup with dumplings. Couldn't finish it because the portion was ginormous.

I was looking for something new to break the monotonous routine of restaurants we are used to. I saw the good reviews on yelp and headed north. The place was quaint and comfortable. We were greeted with smiles and made to feel at home. Telephone takeout orders came flooding in, I knew I had come to the right place. The waiter recommended we try the pot stickers, green onion pancake, and spinach tofu soup. It was all delicious, my mouth was doing the happy dance. I will be making the 30 mile voyage again soon!

The place was small but the food here is recommended, Fried Rice would be nice and the Roast Chicken go well with the fried rice. Pot stickers are very popular,so give it a try. Keep track of their hours tho
