This is the type of place you need to go to once when visiting Pullman, but not more than that. There is always a wait, but the food is good. However, unless you are a logger that needs 10,000 calories a day, this place should be visited sparingly.

I have been to this restaurant three times. The food I order every time was their Danish Aebelskiver, fantastic. The service was terrible during my second visit so I gave this restaurant a four-star. The waitress kept us waiting for 30 minutes at the table without asking us anything. I heard rumors that they might have changed the owners. But I should say that the food was great.

Soooo good, I love crepes and this is my favorite place to get them. Their hash browns, biscuits and gravy are also really good. One of the few breakfast places left in Pullman, but by far the best place to go for some good quality food. Try their Austrian coffee (not Australian like I accidentally said the first time)!

They had me at customer service then my breakfast arrived! The French press was good coffee. My aebelskivers with the blackberry brandy was unbelievably soft and fluffy! I had the German sausage and eggs and tried the flavorful Peri peri hot sauce with it. Lars my server was great he brought a sample of the savory stuff aebelskiver with sausage and cheese inside. Wow! I'm ordering that next time! Lots of history in this homey old school breakfast/ lunch spot. Can't wait to come back!

Hit and miss at best. We have eaten breakfast there several times. Once it was good, several mediocre, and this last time poor. The cooks can't count, or told to hold back on the egg dishes. Sometimes the omelets are big and full of fillings, sometimes they are flat with barely any fillings. Consistency in their egg dishes is poor, often on the cool side and never hot. Todays visit was extremely disappointing. Never again. A college town restaurant with a "there's always a new semester with new visitors around the corner" mentality. Average omelet price is $12.99. Awfully expensive for a one egg omelet with a sprinkling of nothing! Being the only breakfast place in town is the only saving grace for this place. If a competent competitor for breakfast emerges in town, this place is history. Save your dough and save the wait for disappointment.

The fresh squeezed OJ, pancakes and service were exceptional. The omelets were just ok and particularly the biscuits and gravy was just inedible. I should have charged THEM the extra 2$ for making me eat them versus the other way around. Just like eating a sponge (I would imagine, anyway.) This place was forgettable, and I was hoping for more considering their menu, but I could have just as easily confused the place for Denny 's.

First of all, the restaurant is under new management and their hours have changed, although they are not updated online or on their door. The place offers a great range of European food, however a lot is Americanized. The æbleskiver are just like your mom would make in Denmark. However, my personal favorite is the Traditional Goulash. Sometimes, they tend to skimp on meat and veggies so it ends out to be mostly potatoes, which is disappointing. Also, the Dutch Babies, are personal sized and look wrong when it arrives, but tastes wonderful. I would skip the orange juice because at five dollars a glass, it seems a bit steep, especially once you taste it. Although it is fresh, it's not that good.

Food was alright, service was horrible. If you ever get a server named Cyndi F walk right back out the door. She offered a side of gravy quickly after I had ordered in a tone that made me sense that it was free. Got the check without even touching the gravy and it cost me extra. Complained that I didn't know and she informed me and my table that she frankly didn't care. Who tells that to their customer? She should be fired Horrible service. I am never coming back and neither should anyone you know.

Food was delicious. But that wait was horrible. We got out coffee in a French press which was so good. But then waited 30 mins for our food to come out. We were hungry people, the cinnamon roll is so good! The service was super friendly. And enjoyable. Really loud since they seem to be so busy. So couldn't really hear.

The waiters are nice and patient. The service is great. The orange juice is good but costs 5 dollars for a small glass. That's more then a glass of wine. The food is a bit pricy and there small portions. They do have really good pancakes. If you want pancakes then come here. If you want meat and eggs or omelets then go somewhere else. They did give me these free sausage rolls for my first time in here though. The place is very cozy and nicely decorative. They also gave me a 5 dollar gift card for my first time. This place has a wonderful atmosphere

Their freshly squeezed orange juice is to die for, excellent service even when busy on mom or dads weekend.

Ate here with a medium sized group of friends on a Saturday morning. It was very busy the entire time we were there making it hard to hear each other and frustrating to try and place our order to the waitress. I ordered stuffed French toast and when it arrived, after a decently long wait, it was completely cold. Not lukewarm, just Cold. The restaurant is a Bavarian themed breakfast diner with a fairly cool ambiance. All in all it wasn't the most terrible experience, I'm glad I tried the place at least once, but I doubt I will be back. The prices were a little high and the food was far from the best I've had.

It's just OKAY. I don't quite understand the appeal of this place. The big portions and great service still doesn't make up for the honestly bland good. The ibelskievers or however they're spelled are good, so are the crepes, a little thicker than I like but the orange zest is nice. The frozen strawberries aren't the greatest. The goulash is just a mess if potatoes and everything else is just OK. Hit up the Breakfast Club in Moscow for an awesome breakfast.

  • Kyle Z.

Got the bacon avocado spinach omelette with the side of biscuits and gravy. Omelette was good, the biscuits and gravy on the other hand... not so much. The gravy was a step above water, the biscuits were bland and were obviously made from bisquick mix... very disappointed in the food from a "traditional" restaurant who is far from traditional. Will not be coming back.

Favorite breakfast place in Pullman! Cute cottage breakfast house. I feel right at home here. The German potato pancakes are super delicious! Great place to eat on a weekday because of the scarce traffic, instant service, and 10% off rewards program.

Honestly I hate leaving bad reviews because I understand we're all human and mistakes happen. However, I was appalled with my waitresses customer service. When our waitress brought our food out I took a bite out of my omelette and saw a VERY long black hair cooked in with my omelette - YUCK (not wanting to complain because we had already waited 35 minutes outside in line, another 17 minutes at our booth for our sodas and when we finally got our sodas they were flat and tasted horrible! Naturally we told our waitress the sodas were flat and we would like either another one or a different kind if that one was out...she proceeded to roll her eyes, grab the sodas and walk away without saying anything....when she returned I told her about the black hair in my food which she then grabbed my plat and scoffed saying of course and walked away. I could not believe her attitude. After waiting another 11 minutes she returned with another omelette and said here ya go and asked if there was anything else I needed. I said no and proceeded to eat....NO JOKE not even half way through I FOUND ANOTHER BLACK HAIR IN THE MIDDLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I spit my food out in a napkin and told the waitress which she said well do you want me to get you another one...I responded with a no I have completely lost my appetite..We'll take the check now. So after all of that she brings the check back and charges all of us for our breakfast and sodas and not once has the common courtesy to apologize or anything. It's a shame...Growing up in Pullman I have spent a lot of money at this restaurant. I will NEVER go back.

Service was horrible, they messed up our checks and had to keep reprinting them. Line to get in was very long, and I no longer wonder why, the service is a huge contributer. Ordered a cream cheese cinnamon roll that was dry and hard with not enough frosting, and the fruit bowl was slimy and tasted as of it was sitting out. Fresh squeezed orange juice was about the only upside to breakfast. Also, very overpriced on my opinion. Disappointed, never going back. Also, our group of 9 was split up in to a table of 6 and a table of 3, they would not move the tables together for us. No point on going to breakfast as a group if we can't eat together.

Who is giving this place 5 stars? Have they never had breakfast before? The decor is horrible, it feels run down and greasy. An iHop has more charm. That's saying something. The food is completely uninspired and way overpriced. What's special about this place? The orange juice? If the best thing your place has going is orange juice, you know you're in for a crap dining experience. Aebleskivers can be translated to "nasty blobs of dough/bisquick". Friends don't let friends eat here. Go somewhere else. Well, maybe not the Denny's in town. That place is disgusting too. Just put on your big kid pants and go over to Moscow. There's the Breakfast Club or Bloom. Both far, FAR better options.

Breakfast was delicious! I had the Omelet Stew which is an omelet with ham, bacon & sausage, cheese, peppers, onions & tomatoes. The best thing I tried was the Veggie Browns & Cheese which is grilled broccoli, zucchini, tomatoes, onions and peppers with potatoes and a choice of cheddar, swiss or feta. The veggies were perfectly al dente, the omelet was fluffy and everything was seasoned perfectly (yay). This place is great. 8/1/2012 - Update - Been back a few times and the food is just as good every time! Best breakfast in The Palouse.

  • Jim F.

The abelskivers are the best thing on the menu, from my perspective. Everything else is just so-so and pretty much interchangeable with any other cheap breakfast place. As far as I've seen, there's not a professional waiter or waitress in all of Pullman. They're all either family members of the owners or students, and typically don't seem to take a lot of pride in their work. The Old European's floor is usually quite dirty: don't let your kids crawl!

  • Tristan N.

The place smells weird like old musty carpet. I went there during weekday's morning so it was quiet and server was very nice. Food was ok. Menu is too cluttered up and complicated. Took us a while to figure things out. Orange juice off the new orange juice machine is on the pricey side. $4.50 for less than a pint of orange juice...seriously?

Have eaten here several times. Crepes were good. Coffee is good. Good service. Always busy. Been there forever. Breakfast is the only time I have gone.

Ehhhh......not so much. I had the Munich omelette and the biscuits and gravy. They had a sign out front that boasted they made it from scratch, but they didn't say fresh. Mine was cold and the waitress explained that sometimes it hadn't reheated enough for the early customers. And YUCK it was way to salty. Service was good though

Abelskivers always awesome. Seems to be some inconsistency with the seasoning of the savory dishes.

This place takes kitsch to a whole new level especially since they seem downright oblivious to that fact. What can you say about a place that writes a paragraph about each dish and has an entire separate folder about each and every person that works here. The you add the weird Christianesque sayings that greet you or the "Scandinavian" decor that I've seen at Disneyland but never in Sweden and it's a total trip to eat here. Putting aside all the kitsch the food is pretty decent. Not spectacular and when you wander away from order the Scandinavian food it's goes down hill. I got the carbfest cake plate, that was huge with two hot cakes, a "german" cake with sausage in it which the French Spouse who spend every summer with her German mom's family in the German countryside declared as not an actual german dish. Perhaps one time it was in some part of Germany. Where it is actually from it's was tasty! It also came with four Æbleskivers filled with blueberries and a sweet egg crepe filled with thick unsweetened cream. There was no way I could finish all of it and even with three people we left some. The French Spouse got the "Mediterranean" omelet which suffered for a lack of seasoning and vegetables which is sad since it was a vegetarian omelet. Our Friend got the plain Æbleskivers and sausage. The service was very friendly if casual. It's definitely worth a visit for the kitsch and it's one of those places I expect to see on Diner's, Drive-in's and Dives with Guy Feiri stuffing his face while sprouting his catchphrases.

Old Euro is an awesome place to eat breakfast or brunch. But if you plan on going on the weekend, be prepared for a pretty long wait. They have awesome fresh squeezed orange juice that is really good. I usually get the strawberry crepes without cream filling and they are delicious. The food is decently priced and I have never had a bad experience with the service. It's typically full of hungover WSU students on the weekends, so if that's not your crowd maybe go to breakfast earlier than 10 am.

A great place to go for breakfast! I love the pancake puffs! I think the only downside is that they do NOT cook eggs sunny-side up, or use only egg whites for egg dishes. This was a little bit of a disappointment for me, because I prefer both of those preparations and couldn't have them. On the other hand, the fresh squeezed OJ is PHENOMENAL! I definitely recommend getting a glass, or better yet, a pitcher! Get here early, because this place FILLS UP FAST!! There can be long wait times and lines out the door!

Maybe by local standards, this is 'the place' for breakfast, but man, this was a drag for us. We ended up with two orders of aebleskivers, one savory, one sweet, and while I love me some portable food, they tasted like Bisquick. Lame. The savory ones were kinda funky in the middle. The hot sauce was pretty sweet though, that kinda saved the day. Also, when they packed our food to go, they put an open plastic jam container in with our sandwich, so we ended up with a Jammy Ham Sandwich, which was kinda sticky and less tasty.

Definitely a hit-or-miss type of place. There aren't many breakfast-oriented places, so it's really easy to say that The Old European is amazing when you compare it to Denny's. The food isn't as amazing as you'd expect it to be. Don't get me wrong, though! It's much better than Denny's! Fluffy pancakes, crisp bacon, amazing hash browns, and eggs that cooked just the way that I like The ambiance is wonderful. From the chairs and tables to the lovely & delicate decor (especially the cute curtains & chandeliers), it gives guests the feeling of being in a rustic, old European home. The orange juice is freshly squeezed and the hot chocolate is always so toasty & delicious. What I mean by a hit-or-miss is targeted mainly towards the service. I've been here over 3 times, and at least twice did the service just..... fail. I'm always very understanding when it comes to busy restaurants because that means busy service, and that's definitely fine. However, when a waitress doesn't take an order from someone after taking the orders of everyone else, that's a different story. When we've been waiting for almost 20 minutes after asking twice for our checks, that's a different story. On the other hand, sometimes their service is beyond amazing! RIght when we walk into the door, we're greeted with amazing smiles, great conversation, and quick & diligent service. I won't stop going here just because of the fact that they do have amazing service every now and then.

In a week period I ate here 3 times! The german potato pancakes are to die for! Seriously, If I had to choose my last meal these would be my choice! The lobster bisque was fantastic as well. Actually, everything I tried was all around perfect. Mmmmm....I'm getting peckish just writing this review.

On the road again... Next top - Breakfast. I wouldn't really call Old European "European." I would call it good, though. This place is just straight up good! Quality food, classic options, and unique combinations make this joint a real legit eatery. My order of choice was oatmeal. Let me tell you, this isn't the type of place to eat oatmeal, but it is the type of place where healthy isn't exactly the number one concern. SO, I ordered the oats with a fruit bowl. Nothing to write home about. I, of course, got a good look and tastes of other dishes that were definetly worthy of a letter home (or to Yelp?). The pancakes were fluffy and milky, and just good! Traditional done well. That's what Old European capitalizes on, and it works for them. Omelets are really the specialty here, so I would suggest ordering them! Attention to detail: Homemade bread, thick sliced bacon, and crisp brown hash browns are great compliments to the star of the show. No short cuts here - the sides are absolutely note worthy. Side Note: I actually came on Halloween, and the waitresses were all dressed in their costumes with big smiles across their faces. I didn't get the opportunity to dress up, so their energy and attitude was much appreciated and put a big smile on my face! Listen, anything you order here will be pretty darn good. My recommendations are omlettes with a side of anything with bread (i.e. French toast, the little homemade donut ball things *forget the name, or just the bread). All in house, and all good! Forget "Eat.Pray.Love." We... Eat.Play.Sleep.

We ate twice at The Old European. First time I had the "all meat" goulash. This was what I would expect to be described as a "skillet" elsewhere. The one thing I expect in goulash is paprika, but this didn't have any spices at all. Also, it appeared to have potatoes in it, so I'm not sure about the "all meat" part. Maybe my order was messed up in the kitchen. It was acceptable and plentiful, but not special. Also had the potato pancakes. These were quite good. Very tender but with fairly large potato shreds and a bit of German sausage mixed in. Oddly, they came with a fractional helping (just covered the bottom of the portion-control thingie) of applesauce. I imagine they didn't want to open another jar when there were only two customers, which is not good. Overall, pretty successful. The second time, I had the Scandinavian Pancake Platter. Two small buttermilk cakes, one Swedish crepe stuffed with some creamy thing and a couple strawberries, a single potato pancake (this time with a full container of applesauce), and three ableskivers, a spherical pancake about two inches across. I ordered the "original" which was supposed to be served with some kind of special syrup, but I just got maple. My co-eater got the special syrup. Also a side of bacon, and it was pretty much everything they claimed for it--it was quite thick and you got four large pieces for $5. It's rare I feel I got enough bacon. This was definitely enough. Better than the first meal--I'd try the ableskivers again. Finally, the coffee. They claim they grind each pot fresh, and I did hear them grinding. Unfortunately, they use less than half the amount of coffee per pot that they'd need to get a proper brew, so it is watery and nasty--not good even for diner coffee. Enough cream and sugar takes care of that, though. Overall, I was puzzled by some of the arbitrary things (wrong syrup, eyedropper of applesauce) and I never understand a place serving dishwater coffee, but the service was prompt and friendly and the food was good and plentiful. It was kind of expensive--around $15 for breakfast, plus a tip. The fact that they're not in a very large market and the ableskivers get them four stars.

Solid breakfast stop, but nothing special. The food is good, and the porportions are generous. Careful, they charge you for everything they offer in addition to the base meal.

Since everyone around town had been raving about this place, I figure it was one of the more decent places to eat around town. So let me begin my review. Driving into the lot, I knew it was a super popular place to come on a Saturday late morning, the lot was completely packed, which made me more excited for the food. The wait wasn't horrible, but the waiting for our waitress to order, for water, and our food was. -1/2 star I ordered the chicken pesto crepe, which came out a little soggier than I expected.. I prefer a bit crunchier crepe texture, but it was alright, nothing special. My friends ordered the abelskivers which this place is known for, and I'd much rather have gotten those. If you don't know what they are, they'd be comparable to small spherical pancakes. The regular pancakes were alright, nothing to rave about though. So overall, food was alright. -1 star for soggy crepes Paying: I came with other college students so they kindly split up the bill and most of us paid with cards. One of my friends paid in cash, and they shorter her change. Since they were so busy, its understandable it happens. They were nice to figure it out and resolve the issue quickly, so -1/2 star.

Fortunately I was only in town during weekdays so breakfast here was very relaxed and delicious - I can see how it can fill up during weekends. The freshly squeezed orange juice was exactly that - fresh and amazingly refreshing. The Scandinavian Cake Plate was a lot of fun - German potato pancake with bits of sausage in it, Swedish crepes with what tasted like a cream cheese filling, abelskivers which are like pancake in the form of a ball, and hotcakes which were buttery light and delicious. Also had their version of the chicken fried steak which was good. Very solid breakfast and friendly service too!

The old European has obviously been there for a long time. The blueberry pancake, eggs and bacon I got were just fine, but the atmosphere was decidedly out-dated and the premises slightly run down. As a breakfast joint, I'd say this place was perfectly adequate, though they tend toward sugary things (various waffles and pancakes with fruit and sugar). I wouldn't go out of my way for it, but I would go back if I were looking for simple breakfast with no hassles.

I hadn't been since college, but we hit the Old E up on my last visit to Pullman. I can't say that it was as great as I'd remembered, but that could be because I could have done a better job of ordering. We were on our way out of town, so that meant No Leftovers Allowed. This ruled out any sort of goulash or omelet option. (I used to get the goulash and eat for days--HUGE portions!) I ended up with eggs, bacon, and french toast. All were perfectly fine, but nothing jaw-dropping. I wish I'd ordered Abelskivers instead of french toast, since I know it's their specialty, but I went the safe route, which was just average. Coffee was a little weak, compared to the potent stuff they serve in Seattle, but two refills did the trick and I was ready for the drive. And once The Boy finished off the fatty parts of the bacon that I wouldn't eat, so was he! At $30 (including tip), it wasn't the cheapest breakfast ever, but definitely your best option in Pullman, unless you like Denny's and/or don't mind waiting for a table.

My mouth waters just thinking about that super pulpy orange juice.... I haven't been back to Pullman since 2006 (boo!) but this is one of the places that is a perennial favorite. Though there are some more 'interesting' items on the menu, there are enough 'traditional' favorites to tide over any breakfast fan. Just don't try to go during a big football weekend!

Breakfast until 3 pm, various kinds of European pancakes made from scratch, and friendly staff -- a local tipped us to this place and we were glad of it. I had the abelskeivers (mentioned in 2 other reviews) plain, which means with powdered sugar and blackberry brandy sauce and applesauce on the side. They were delicious. The sauce was perfect with the flavors of both major ingredients. We had a great discussion with our waitress about what to do about her mean dog, and why it's OK to crave chocolate. Plan to hit this place for breakfast when you're in Pullman!

This place charmed my pants off. Seriously, I have a soft spot for all restaurants featuring decor that feels transplanted from some beloved granny's house. Fresh squeezed orange juice and caramel apple cider were great accompaniments for the delicious lemon and powder sugar Dutch Baby we orders (not ginormous, one person could finish this). A side of bacon was a huge delicious plateful of bacon; either love pig or be ready to share. I really wanted my swedish pancakes to have a little more crispness--it was totally uniform in texture, which was kind of creepy. Service was warm and friendly, even on a crazy Saturday football game morning. The staff was all welcomes and smiles, even though I imagined that back in my table-waiting days in college I would have had a melt down with the crush of people that was in there.

This place is wonderful - but avoid Sunday mornings here. They're noisy and crowded. If you want to go, go on a weekday morning. Do not order anything other than water unless you want to pay 4-5$ for a glass of orange juice, etc. The food, however, is terrific and affordable, and will leave you full for the rest of the day. I love the stuffed french toast.

I went to WSU and visit Pullman often, so I have spent many a morning at The Old European. The food is beyond compare, the quality and taste are amazing. The serve a variety of european cafe favorites, french toast, sweedish pancakes, hungarian goulash, aebleskivers and fresh squeezed orange juice. The only downsides to this place is it gets really busy after 8:30-9am on the weekends, and during any university event weekends. It's also a bit pricey for a college town.

This place was a big, fat mistake. We waited in line forever, were harassed, and then watched another group of diners be harassed. All in an hour's time. I made my first trip to Old European this weekend and I will not be going back. Ever. I don't care how hungover and desperate I am for carbs. I was a student at WSU for 5 years and never went, mostly because the line to get in was always ridiculous on weekends, though it has a great rep for good breakfast. But this weekend I was in town for homecoming and, at the request of my siblings, we made plans for Sunday breakfast at Old European. My brother lost the roshambo, so he had to go early to get us a table. He was seated earlier than expected and saved us a spot, but was harassed multiple times by the hostess (maybe she was the owner, I don't know). She threatened to kick him out if the rest of his party (me and my boyfriend) didn't show up in time. Granted, there was a line outside, so I understand the urgency, but he was only there at the table for probably 10 minutes waiting for us. She even made him order breakfast for us before I arrived. So we got toast. And it was not special. I got there just in time to see the waitress come back to my brother's girlfriend, who had initially ordered a custom omelet. Apparently the fascists in the kitchen or perhaps the aforementioned tyrant hostess vetoed her custom order and refused to remove the broccoli from her veggie omelet. No custom order for you! They made her pick a new breakfast. WTF? How hard is it not to put something in an omelet? The kicker was when another group, frustrated from both the long wait to get a table and then the hour wait to get their food, decided they weren't going to wait any longer. The waitress was just bringing out the food and they told her they didn't want it because they were leaving. They were irritated, but not rude or causing a scene. But, not to fear, the hostess/owner came over and did that for them. They were already leaving and she told them to get out and that she was calling the cops. She physically pushed one of the men and then headed straight to the phone to call 911. The group left both immediately and peacefully, yet I still heard the hostess refer to them as "assholes". Nice. People dissatisfied with the service and she doesn't try to fix it, but instead makes it ten times worse. The real food (not toast that was forced on me) might be fan-freakin-tastic, but I don't care. I won't go back to be treated like that. Want an alternative? Go to The Breakfast Club in Moscow...it is highly yummy and has great service, even on football weekends when they're slammed. It's more than worth the 15 minute drive to get there. Or even go to Denny's. Yes, I said Denny's. And meant it.

We went to Pullman for my cousin's graduation, we weren't expecting great food. When we drove up to the Old European, my expectations did not raise one iota. It's kind of like an old iHop or something. Well, what a pleasant surprise!!! This place rocks! I ordered the German Potato Pancakes because Pauli, my cousin, said I must. I honestly don't like potato pancakes, hash browns, home fries - any of that, but these...OMG, so so so delicious. I will spend the next few months combing the internet trying to find this recipe! They are so moist and creamy. I can't describe them. If you go here just get them. Joey ordered the Danish abelskeivers stuffed with sausage and havarti. They were like little savory doughnuts. So good! If you go to Pullman, then you MUST go here for breakfast or brunch. And, as Pauli said, you MUST get the Potato Pancakes.

Old European is THE breakfast place for Pullman. Hands down. It lives up to the name by serving European style breakfasts, including Danish aebelskivers and Swedish crepes. The food is always delicious and the servers and kind and helpful. I've never had anything but breakfast food here because it is a breakfast place. Even if you go at noon, get an omlette or the aebelskivers (which are their pride and joy for a reason). I give it 4 stars because it is almost impossible to get in on busy weekends and the parking lot is kind of a mess. I don't recommend standing outside and waiting for an hour on busy weekends. The staff will be frazzled and it won't be an enjoyable experience, but if you're in town on a weekday or slow weekend be sure to check it out!

One of my fondest memories of Pullman as an undergrad at WSU...I eat here every time I come back. It was the ultimate hangover breakfast treat in those days. Now I come back for the Austrian coffee, the fresh-squeezed OJ, the Hungarian goulash and the blueberry abelskivers. It gets super busy on weekends, but it is always worth the wait. And as a p.o.c. I have always had great service here, which isn't always the case with long-time resetaurants in the area. It draws everyone: hungover students, church-goers after Sunday service, tourists and locals. Be warned: make sure you pencil in time for a nap somewhere comfortable afterwards.

I LOVE OLD EURO! I wish there was one over in Seattle!! The hot cakes are the best I have EVER had from any restaurant in my life. Can't go wrong with the Abelskivers either. The only reason this place gets 4 outta 5 stars is the fact that they will nickel and dime you for everything. For example, if you want to SHARE one of their GIANT plates they will charge you like a buck for that. If you want to split the tab, they will charge another buck for that. They will also charge you 5 bucks for 8oz of their precious fresh squeezed OJ...honestly I have had better from the grocery store and I hate pulp. The other reason why this place gets 4 stars is because it is ALWAYS crowded on the weekends. Good luck getting a table after 9:30am! This place makes so much money, especially during all the special weekends WSU puts on. Stop being stingy and money greedy and expand into a bigger FRICKEN location! Then you can make MORE $$$.

I am writing this as I wait for my meal. There are enough reviews here for one to inform an opinion on whether they eat here or not. This is for those of you that don't think they will die from eating Sunny Side Up Eggs. Don't bother trying to get them here because they will lecture you that Washington state says they are not safe so we refuse to let you decide for yourself what and how you want your food prepared. In the meantime pretty much everything on the menu technically is bad for you. I will not go back no matter how good the food is. So we have eaten now and I am editing my review. I had the fried steak. If it was not covered with a horrendous tasting gravy it might have been okay. The wait staff are very unorganized but friendly. Like I said, not coming back.

This place is a must do when in Pullman. The room is huge and the food is perfect for what ails you. Order anything, its all good.

This eatery isn't all that it chalks itself up to be. They like to announce, with pride, that every item is "homemade", which is untrue. For instance, their biscuits are made with a boxed mix. One of my first visits to Old European was a huge disappointment. I ordered their potato and vegetable scramble and it arrived looking fresh and tasty. I enthusiastically took a bite but then felt a sharp, large object on my tongue. I removed it and found a 1" x 1" shard of white ceramic, most likely from a broken plate. When I informed the server, she acted very casual and did not even inform the kitchen staff. So, here I was, shaken and hungry. That piece of PLATE could have severely injured me. I can tell that dozens of college students think this place is "where it's at" but people with good palates and finer experiences know better.

Try the crepes and FRESH OJ! this place is a delight, but awfully packed on weekend mornings. Expect a multi-hour wait on event weekends.

I think I'm the only person I know here in Pullman who _doesn't_ like the Old European. Believe me, I really wanted to love it. I love a great breakfast place, but the one time I went here for breakfast, it was not good at all. Service was slow -- I waited almost 10 minutes just for coffee, and there were only three other tables of 2-4 people in the place -- and my food was cold and to the point of almost-uncooked. Granted, it was one visit and it was "off season" -- that is, in the summertime -- so perhaps the staff was in transition. Quite possible. However, I am pleased with the other breakfast places I _do_ frequent, so I'm not sure I'd work my way through the crowds in order to go here. Take my review with a grain of salt, though, since there _are_ crowds!

Distgusting, unclean, Pullman "institution". College students like it because the servings of over sweetened food are huge. Waitstaff did their best to ignore us (6 people) on a non-football weekend.

Love this place! I rarely go there with friends, since it's more expensive than our usual grub, but whenever my parents visit we always make a trip to the "Old Euro" as we all call it. I love the abelskivers, and they also have a fantastic tomato basil soup! Highly recommend.

Excellent. Nice atmosphere, very nice servers (and patrons) and good food. I forget what you call them, but I had some very good ball-shaped danish pancakes. If you've got kids, they'll even make them a free animal shaped pancake with fruit and whipped cream. Great little breakfast gem in Pullman.

Recommend coming in early so you can beat the rush. The regular coffee is very good, they also have a specialty coffee that is great. Highly recommend German potato pancakes are fabulous especially with the hot sauce. The hot sauce is unique to Old European and it will melt your face off its so hot! Good service and the price is higher than most breakfast places but the food you can't get anywhere else, so its worth it.

Abelskeivers are the best. How can you resist a golf ball like pancake, some filled with fruit, some bits of bacon and cheese, some plain with powder sug. Ohhhh. Someone stop me.... They make them in a special pan that most people, other than those from Deutschland or Denmark, do not have at home. Other things that make this place cool are the fresh squeezed orange juice and the nice wait staff. They have little bios on all the waitstaff in the menus. Sweet, I was wondering what his major was, thanks. A word about timing: Such a mistake to come here on Mom's Weekend, Homecoming, Dad's Weekend, etc. The place will be jammed packed, and it's so not the best time. Go at a more relaxed time, but do bring the fam. They will love it. This place is casual. Watch for wazzu kids with makeup and up-do's still rocking from the party the night before, rolling off the sleeping porch at AKL's and wandering over in someone else's T-shirt and shower flip flops. I know I've seen them.

Ordered stuff French toast (eggs and sausage) the french was plain, the bread that was used was not meant for French toast. Sausage seems like a store bought taste not homemade. Just don't expect too much as in favors.

This is by far the best breakfast place in the area. You have plenty of traditional breakfast plates to choose from, as well as some European breakfasts. The portion sizes are large so be prepared to be wheeled out! Since it is a college town the food is at a reasonable price. The are three bad things about this place though. Since it is the best place to eat for breakfast (mind you, it isn't open late...I believe it closes around 2 in the afternoon) you have a long wait before you get seated, especially on a parent's weekend. Service can be awfully slow but is still friendly. The last thing is the parking. The lot is definitely not large enough to hold the crowds!

Very good, but you might just want to go back to bed afterward. Pancakes, waffles, etc. are all very good, and they make cinnamon rolls and fresh-squeezed orange juice on site. Both are excellent. Plenty of food with most dishes, you'll be able to have a light lunch or skip it altogether. There can be a bit of a wait (30 minutes+) on busy weekends, but it's worthwhile. Staff is friendly and helpful, and you can read their bios in the menu while you wait for food, or they may just chat with you at the table. Many have been here a long time.

The cream cheese cinnamon roll is amazing! My husband ordered the traditional goulash which was good but a bit heavy on the onions and peppers. The portion was ridiculous! We had that for leftovers at least twice. The atmosphere however reminds me of a run down Denny's, with better service. Not to mention I don't think whoever decorated the inside has ever been to Europe. It didn't help that we had the worst table in the whole restaurant, right in front of the kitchen. But I guess you don't go to places like this for the atmosphere! Not sure if I'll go back.

I've been there twice now. I probably would have given it 5 stars for my first visit as everything was good. But I went back this weekend and didn't enjoy it as much. My friend and I each had an omelette. Her side was a cream cheese cinnamon roll which was phenomenal. But I ordered aebelskivers, which I tried on my first visit and loved. However, my waitress this time recommended the blueberry ones and they didn't come with the yummy sauce that the plain ones used to come with. And when I got my bill, apparently they add $2 for the blueberries (about 15 of them)., which she didn't mention to me. Whatever. I'll go back but I was kind of annoyed about that. If you do go, order the cinnamon roll.

They have very unique breakfast items (I wish I remembered all the names). A highlight was the ableskivers, aka pancake balls. They are fluffy and light, and so good rolled in powdered sugar. The service was decent, and the coffee was pretty good. The bacon wasn't as crisp as I would have liked it to be. The food comes out kind of slowly, but if you're there for a relaxing breakfast, it's fine. You can sit and chat without feeling pressured to leave.

Best place in the area and actually better that a lot of places i've been in the city. Order something fancy, you know, not what you'd usually get or make at home. These are their specialties and are excellent!

We have eaten there twice in the last month and have been disappointed twice. First they charged an extra dollar for a tiny dollop of sour cream and second they had the worst biscuits and gravy that I have ever had!

Great food......bottom line. I don't get to go here often but when I do it is GREAT. The line can be kinda long on the weekends but it is worth the wait. The goulosh is excellent and huge.

Had breakfast here for the second time with Katie. Candy was our waitress again and everything was PERFECT... again! I had the Omelet with the German Sausage in it, the coffee that comes in the French Press, a carafe of orange juice and a real Belgian Waffle. (Yeah, I finished everything) Absolutely remarkable!

I wanted to try everything on the menu. I chose the German Potato Pancake (has sausage in it), my mom chose the Veggie Browns she also had a side of their house made toast. We shared original abelskivers. Because it was our first time the server brought us a taste of the blueberry filled abelskivers - which also were incredible! We both ordered the sunrise drink (fresh squeezed orange juice with cranberry). Everything was delicious and the server even gave us a coupon for $5 off our next visit since it was our first visit--so make sure to let them know if you've never been before! We loved everything, we even ordered a loaf of their bread to take home with us! The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars was that the restaurant was pretty empty (we arrived around 12:45pm) and the server was phenomenal at first--greeting us, helping us decide, being super friendly--but once we received our food she didn't stop by again.

If you haven't tried a Danish Aebelskiver, you need to get here today and try one. And then try their homemade raspberry jam. And the potato pancake. We're so glad we saw the sign as we were driving down Grand looking for highway 195. Dad has declared this the best breakfast and brunch place ever. High praise! Be sure to let the server know if you're new.

The food is good. Their policy where they dont sit a group until the entire party is present is inconvenient and illogical. I passed along this feedback (in much nicer words) and the management was rather curt and rude about it. Not exactly pleased. I suppose when you're the only above average breakfast place in town, you have a lot of leeway with how you can treat your customers.

I don't know why everyone raves about this place. For nearly $9 a plate, I'd think that they could afford to spend money on FRESH fruit. The fact that they frozen strawberries really disgusted me. It's summer, there are plenty of strawberries around.

There is a right way to do this. First, here's my story: My experience began because my girlfriend was graduating in a week and we never had a chance to visit the Old European. We decided now was the time and we left! The atmosphere was great and they absolutely nail the old European home vibe. The waitress was very courteous and came by about ever 3-5 minutes asking if we were ready to order. This was partly because we were new and partly because the menu is huge. After we ordered, our meals arrived quicker than I expected. I got the 'bit of breakfast' meal and a french press coffee. My girlfriend got the 'traditional goulash' and the same coffee. We shared Aebelskivers (round pancake balls). My meal was sufficient for the $8 price, however the Goulash was amazing. For $14 we got enough flood + the side for my girlfriend to eat until stuffed, me to eat no small portion of her meal, and then still have more to take home in a box. The aebelskivers tasted great as well. The only issue was that after these meals and the tip the price came out to $48. Now comes the 'right way to do this' I mentioned above. The Traditional Goulash was absolutely amazing! In addition, we had an option to get Aebelskivers as the side (we chose french toast). The french-press coffee cost about $3.50 per person, however the traditional drip coffee only cost about $1.00. So, my advice is to go and buy the 'Traditional Goulash' with an Aebelskivers side. If each of you get a traditional drip coffee, that will come out to about $16.00 pre-tax for the meal. $20 total a helluva lot cheaper than $48 and it gives you the most delicious aspects of the meal! It will fill you up, make you smile, and please your wallet!

Not overly impressed. Portions and quality are average at best. The coffee was horrible and the prices are a tad on the high side.

Really great service (Diana was very nice and had some good suggestions) and awesome potato pancakes. My mom had the European breakfast, and it looks like the perfect amount of food. Like I said, I had potato pancakes and a side of egg. they were the best potato pancakes I've ever had. Someone suggested trying the pancakes with the hot sauce and I agree, it is amazing. 4 stars and not five because the eggs were slightly overdone, but don't let that deter you. This place is very satisfying for breakfast. If you want to miss the breakfast rush, sleep in and come around 11:30 for brunch

Good food. Terrible service. Even worse attitude! We ate here all the time when I was in school as a student (2002-04). I loved the Belgium waffles, and the biscuits and gravy were top notch. In 2004, my wife and I had our first son, the month after I graduated. On the morning we moved away from Pullman, back to the West Side for work, we went in with our three-day old son. We got the NASTIEST look from the server. This was in a time when a lot of students were having babies, which then created a counter-culture and counter-attitude toward this. My wife WASN'T A STUDENT!!! And regardless, we didn't need that type of judgmental look. The girl then took the three people who walked in behind us and sat them. I protested. She just walked off. These people behind us seemed confused, like they knew something was up, but were unsure if they should follow. They ended up doing it anyway. I said very loudly that I wanted to talk to a manager. This was not a fight I was going to lose! My wife, however, was tired, newly postpartum, and wanting to avoid a fight. She encouraged me to just leave. I wasn't happy, but we left. We went to Tam's, head a good breakfast, then went back to the West Side. Fast forward 11 years. I now work in Pullman, have a good salary, can easily afford to eat at The Old European, but I WON'T. Why not? Because I finally called and asked to speak to the owner. I ascertained that the current owner was the son of the last person. I told him that I understand he wasn't the one in charge back when this happened, but that I had been harboring this issue for 10+ years and I told him what happened. He didn't care! Look, it wasn't his fault. But he was completely unapologetic. He didn't care. I'm not sure if that's because he was raised by the same kind of people who were OK with their employees acting rude and discriminatory. So, as I told him before I hung up, I'm happy to take my money and go anywhere else. AND, in a bout of negative marketing, I'm happy to share my experience with others.

I love the variety of the menu, and the kids' specials. The place has character. I really wish we hadn't had a hostess who refused to seat us because my husband took a few minutes longer to get in. There were lots of empty tables. I quietly explained that my friend couldn't stand for long (she wears leg braces and is handicapped), so she made a big production of pulling one chair out just for her, which was humiliating for my friend, and made it seem as though she thought I'd made the whole thing up to get a table. All she would have had to do is take my word for it. Again, there were plenty of empty tables. I only wish I'd lied and said we had only a party of three.

I've only been here once and it was for breakfast. While the interior leaves much to be desired the food is crazy good! Don't miss their crepes or the fresh squeezed orange juice!
