Best sandwich I've ever had. I figured I'd just start with that. My brother lived here for about 6 years I think, he said its probably the best snadwich place in Oly. I actually learned this after I had decided to come already. He told me that his favorite was the Tombstone, so I got it, and it was phenomenal. Everything about it was great. 2 meats, avacado, tomato, raw onion. Those are my favorite things on a sandwich! Other great things not relating to the actual sandwich: the napkin art on the wall was awesome. Old school sodas (that I actually didn't get this time). Also another nice plus was there was easy parking in the lot, it wasnt too crowded or small, coming from California that was a breath of fresh air. Not sure if its always like that though, or if it was because of the Lake Fair thing. I would highly recommend and fully intend to come back and try another sandwich or two.

I love coming here for the great variety of sandwich choices. I've gotten a different sandwich every time, because they all sound so good! I'd say I'm happy with it 80-85% of the time which I think is pretty amazing, for random ordering.
(4)Adrian S.
I had a pastrami on rye, and it was a decent sandwich. It's got a small, mom and pop feel to it. The workers are friendly and the service was fast. I'd go back.
(3)Kyler L.
Always good and the staff is very friendly. It is probably my favorite sandwich shop in the area and I consider myself a kind of Sandwich Aficionado.
(4)Chris P.
Nice little sandwich shop here in Olympia. They do go heavy on the lettuce so remind them to go easy on the lettuce. Located in a strip mall parking lot, so no street parking to worry about. Sandwiches are made to order, call in before arriving to avoid the wait. And if you don't have time to wait for a sandwich, you can always watch your life pass by at Subway.
(4)Trent P.
The sandwiches are good. Always every time. The service is what sucks sometimes and today they forgot to make my wife's sandwich and rather than correct it, forgot again. By the third request they made the sandwich. The top was white and the bottom had another type of bread than the one I ordered. It took 25 minutes to get that sandwich?
(1)Kassandra R.
Nice little hole in the wall sandwich shop I had a Mean Green Turkey Machine and it was really good :) half the sandwich filled me up :) Customer service when you first walk in is a bit off :/ but once someone helps you out they are nice :) I love the bread and the turkey and the pesto aioli sauce is good but I think next time I'm adding extra pesto to it
(4)Paul A.
They've raised their prices from about $6.50 to around $8.95. Sandwich only. No little side of macaroni salad or potato salad. It was a good value before. Can't really say that now. Last time we were there was the first time we had seen the price increase. Looked as if the meat portion on the sandwich may of dropped also. Though I love to support local business, can't really say this kind of increase will make me a regular anymore. Really too bad.
(3)Ryan R.
I just had a mini Tombstone with everything on it and toasted. As always is was awesome. I believe this is the best sandwich shop in Olympia area. I called my order ahead, didn't have to wait in line when I got here (though that is unusual) and I only had to wait about 3 minutes for my sandwich! Thanks for the awesome sandwich Wally's.
(5)Wyatt F.
This place knows how to make a sandwich. Good value, good product, good vibes on the inside (although it's a little dated). Great stop for lunch.
(5)Jim H.
Second visit.... first was amazing so I had to see if it was a fluke. Second visit was just as good as the first. I love the atmosphere, sat in a different spot to observe the napkin art hanging on the wall. Ya gotta check this place out!!!
(5)Ariel D.
So many good sandwiches here. I'm a huge fan of the Luigi, but that Wally Mammoth with the A-1 steak sauce is somethin else. Nom. They use bread from local bakeries which is nice and the staff is nice and friendly. Plus, you can order food and they'll deliver it next door at Skep & Skein while you have a drink.
(4)Michael N.
Wally's makes a pretty mean sandwich. Other than the fact that the food was good, I was somewhat annoyed by the slowness of the people making the food. I've never had to wait 20 minutes to have an italian sub made. There were maybe 3 people ahead of me. The employees were chit chatting a bit in the back, so maybe that's what slowed the process down, but who knows. When the food finally arrived, I will say that it was a pretty massive and tasty sub for about $7.50 Bonus points for the great soundtrack including the Yoshimi era Flaming Lips and blue album era Weezer. The store is located in a strip mall, so it may be a bit hard to spot from the road unless you are particularly looking for it.
(3)Nelli C.
Super yummy. Had the Guac and Balls sandwich with no cheese. Totally vegans and yums. Eat here. You won't regret it.
(5)Lili O.
Just moved here a couple weeks ago and we've already eaten here many times. This place is the dope-sauce.
(5)Trish P.
good sandwiches that i would gladly nosh on.... makes Subway look like an amateur. great service too. my friend had their Tombstone sandwich "Roast beef, turkey, bacon, pepper jack, spinach, tomatoes, onions, avocado, jalapenos, chipotle mayo": yelp.com/biz_photos/wall… she enjoyed her sandwich a lot, and apparently this is a popular choice here at Wally's. i had the BLAT "Crisp bacon on toasted bread with lettuce, tomato, mayo, avocado" yelp.com/biz_photos/wall… this sandwich was more simple, but still very good! 100% satisfied my appetite :D also, if you're feeling creative........ napkin art work galore! yelp.com/biz_photos/wall… yelp.com/biz_photos/wall… and, i'm not sure if it functions, but they have a really cool old school Japanese pachinko machine: yelp.com/biz_photos/wall… the atmosphere is fun, and comfortable. the sandwiches are good. great place to stop if you're ever in the area!
(5)Mara C.
I so wish I could give them 3.5 stars! I cannot say I am a fan of this place, I had way better sandwiches. However having said that the two sandwiches that I did try there weren't bad at all. I felt like that correlation of price and taste was slightly off. The sandwiches are think and full with ingredients, but there is too much bread in my opinion. There are not many good places to eat at in Olympia/Lacey area, so I definitely appreciate this sandwich place. There is a potential there and I wish them well!
(3)Caleb H.
Tasty and great quality!
(4)Idlike T.
This place has completely gone down hill... I started eating there at the end of last summer and was hooked. The people who worked there were welcoming, friendly, played awesome music, and actually cared about making delicious sandwiches. However the shop has completely changed over the 4-5months, it looks like they had a total turn over of staff and only kept the most rude and incompetent. The sandwiches I've gotten have been soggy and awful. And the last five sandwiches I've ordered have been made wrong. I usually get my food to go but this last time I was so skeptical that they would make my order correctly that I stayed and ate there, and yet again it was messed up. When I politely pointed this out to the guy working, he gave me so much attitude. Never going back. Sad, they use to be awesome...
(1)Nyle T.
Amazing sandwiches! I love how they have sooo many options for custom sandwiches (and you can pick as many toppings as you want without having to pay more!). Out of all the sub shops I have been to in Olympia, they have the most option. The only negative of this place is how long it takes to get food. Seriously, how long can it take to make a sandwich?? They are so slow. I could go back there and make my own sandwich faster. If you have a long, relaxing lunch break this is the place. If not, I would recommend calling in to have your sub made before you get there, because they are annoyingly slow.
(4)Nikki R.
Stopped in at Wally's for the first time this evening. I very rarely crave sandwiches but this place hit the spot! They have a great selection of custom subs but you can also create your own sub for a flat rate which includes as many toppings as you want. I had the "Luigi" and absolutely loved it. The pesto was a delicious touch and the bread was soft and warm. They also did not skimp on the meats. I definitely recommend this place for a delicious sandwich!
(4)Cam S.
Great sandwiches, maybe a little pricey, but that's probably only because they last maybe 10 minutes tops. They're that good. The place is nice, always very clean and orderly, which is quite a feat you'd understand if you've ever seen the place when it's packed. An extra plus is being able to take your food next door to Skep!
(4)Stephanie B.
We love Wally's. Love the people who work there, the kick-a$$ music they are always playing, the napkin wall art, and the food! Husband swears by the Tombstone (every time), whereas I ventured out a bit more and love the Guac-n-Balls, Pesto-Chango, pita chips and hummus, and particularly the Tuna Melt when nursing a hangover. Our favorite Oly hole in the wall!
(5)Emily B.
Yesssss!!! Love the food and atmosphere. The staff are extremely down to Earth, approachable, and friendly. I have tried something new each time and have been pleased each and every time. Suck it, Subway!
(5)Alina R.
I really loved this place personally. My boyfriend and I came in about 15 minutes before closing (one of THOSE people...) and they didn't kick us out. They were actually really nice considering the time (and I'm sure they wanted to go home for the night) and offered to let us stay and eat while they closed up. After they'd box up our meals for us. Honestly I really liked it here. I thought the sandwiches were really awesome. I loved you could choose not just the kind of bread, but from different rolls and such as well. I had the Tombstone and my boyfriend had the Chicken Parmesan and both were quite good. I also liked the fact I asked for toasted and it wasn't -too- toasty. No crumbs everywhere or hurt the roof of your mouth toasty. The only complaint I really had was I asked for no jalapenos and I think they misunderstood me and gave me extra. I was thanking my lucky stars that I investigated the suspicious looking jalapeno doppleganger before digging in. But that was pretty minor for me, hence the five stars. Oh! Also the avocados here are real, not avocado spread or anything else weird. That was a huge bonus for me. Really delicious, would come here again hands down.
(5)Rebecca M.
My favorite place to get a sandwich. The pub roll is so good and there are a ton of unique options. It can take a little extra time to get your sandwich but I like the relaxed atmosphere. Plus you can have it delivered to Skep next door, then the wait doesn't really matter.
(5)Luke B.
Great sandwiches! decorations inside where a bit odd.
(5)John P.
This was my first time here. I asked the guy just to pick something for me. I do this most times I go out cause I usually get something I enjoy more than if I just tried to pick something from the unending menus that exist today. He didn't go very risky... Turkey bacon. I was a bit bummed but that's the risk one takes. The good news is that is was a very good sandwich. I figure if I liked this one then I would really like the others. It smells really great in here and I like their pricing structure. The only downside was that I had to wait a long time for the sandwich. There was no one in line when I came in... But many were waiting for their sandwiches as well. There were 4 people making sandwiches so I was a bit confused as to the wait. But the wait was worth it. I will be back.
(4)Nicole G.
Having had many tasty sandwiches in Philadelphia, it's hard to find a good contender. Wally's might come close. I can't remember the name of the sandwich I ordered, only that it was delicious. We were even able to have our sandwiches delivered to the bar next door. Awesome!
(5)Jerrad L.
Great sandwiches. However give yourself time because it takes awhile to get your food
(4)Beth H.
I ordered the BLAT on a pub roll and it was the best one I have ever had. They gave me tons of perfectly cooked, crispy bacon with a decent helping of avocado. The bread was perfectly textured and able to handle the typically messy sandwich. I loved every bite, and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.
(5)Olivia H.
love this place! They are a little pricey for what they offer, but the staff is so laid back and the environment is fun! They have great gluten free bread too ;)
(5)Rachel C.
I love love love this place! Its not usually busy when i go there, Had no problem getting a table. I always get the customized sub sandwich. Getting your food can take up to 10-15 minutes but it doesn't bother me that much, Everything is so fresh & flavorful. They usually give a mint chocolate with your meal for afterwards. Which is a plus! :)
(5)Brent C.
Went back to Wally's. Food was even better than I remembered. Still hipster silly but don't care the subs are so darn good. (and the music wasn't annoying at all this time).
(4)Margaret J.
All I can say is VERY BEST SANDWICHES EVER!! Seriously. The ingredients are fresh and more to choose from than any place I've ever been to. I LOVE the wraps! The staff is knowledgeable and accommodating if you ask for something out of the ordinary. They always have great suggestions if you can't figure out what to choose :)
(5)Jenna R.
This is the second time I am writing a review on this place in the last year. Unfortunately, it has only gotten worse. We order from here frequently from work and twice in the last week they have got my order wrong, not a little wrong, completely wrong. Today, we asked as we were paying and were assured that the order was correct. Get back to work and again, it is waaay wrong. I even paid extra for avocado(both times), which is confirmed on the receipt and did not get it. The employees don't listen and are unapologetic when you point out the error. The frustrating part is that we want to like this place and would rather give our money to a local business than a chain. They seriously make it impossible to be satisfied with them. The should not even have the option for a build your own sandwich or salad if they are going to make it however they want anyway. For the record I am not picky and normally don't complain but this is not ok, between my co workers and I there are at least twelve instances in the last year where our order was incorrect. Don't get me wrong the food is good, if you actually get what you ordered!
(2)Alan M.
It's just that the sandwiches are tasty is all.
(4)Wild F.
Pretty standard sandwich shop. on the more expensive side. I ordered the pub roll and it was great bread! My biggest problem was the amount of time it took to get my food. I waited 20 minutes for 2 sandwiches. there were no orders ahead of me and they werent short staffed. The people behind the counter were just talking to each other FOREVER before they started making my food.
(2)Steven J.
Went into Olympia to get a sub on the drive from the coast back to seattle. This sandwich exceeded all expectations and was delicious. Their 10 inches was way better than a footlong. Wish there was one closer to seattle because I would eat there frequently
(5)Brian L.
If you can look past the long waits, you'll find the best sandwiches in Olympia. I've been going once every few weeks for about three years and I haven't once ordered on the menu. Building your own sandwich is way more fun. The options are plentiful and the ingredients are nice and fresh. The hot sauces are really fun, too. Also, keep your orderin' sheet if your sandwich turns out really good. You can just keep ordering off the same paper! Nice! Also, the breads are delicious. I usually order either a white or pub roll. They're both good. White seems bigger though.
(4)Mark S.
I have never ordered from the menu. You can "build your own" and put EVERYTHING on it! Their sandwiches are just amazing. I love them! I lived for years without going here. It was a huge mistake :(
(5)Justina S.
De.li .cious! Ok, so it's not located in the nicest area and service is slow (although friendly) but it is SO worth it if you're looking for a sensationally tasty and meaty sandwich w/ fresh veggies. I ordered the Tombstone and my husband had the Mammoth. He is definitely a sandwich guy and was very pleasantly surprised. Ditching Meconi's for this place!
(4)Julia R.
I love Wally's! I have been here 3-4 times now, and I remain impressed by their service and their sandwiches. Located adjacent to a Dollar Tree and Grocery Outlet, and next door to a bar (Skep & Skein), I did not have the highest of hopes but had heard good things and seen really positive reviews on yelp. Ventured in with a friend on a weekday evening and found the place empty, with Christmas decorations still hanging about the place. I like that. This place is all booths if I remember correctly, and I like that too. They sell t-shirts with their logo, which is a sandwich holding a little person perilously close to its mouth. Yep I"m into that too! Ordered the mean green turkey as a wrap. My friend ordered the Oly cheesesteak, which he is now addicted to. Seriously. All sandwiches are available on bread or as a wrap, and there is a huge variety of both to choose from. I have had the french roll, the spinach wrap, and the chipotle wrap, all very good. They also offer chips and drinks for purchase. They have a student discount and a check in deal- you can't use both at the same time though, so take your pick. Service is not fast... but is very friendly. Take your time and choose a hot sauce from the cupboard of 'em on the wall or check out some of the napkin art on the wall, which is pretty cool. I highly recommend this place, and I've heard they deliver to Skep next door too- so try 'em with a beer maybe :)
(5)Liz H.
I love Wally's because their sandwichs are delicious, they have good gluten free bread and since the slices are small you get TWO sandwiches. However, I went during work for lunch about a month ago, and although the place was empty, it took nearly 50 minutes for me to get one sandwich. It was insanity. I had brought my coworker insisting that it was super yummy and was going to be great, but after an hour, she was convinced that we were trapped in sandwich shop hell. She won't go back, and I just don't understand why it took so long. I'll just call in next time, because I still like it.
(3)Suzie V.
Don't go to Subway. Don't go to Quizno's, or even Meconi's. You want an amazing sandwich? Take your booty to Wally's. This place is delicious. Every single stinking sandwich I've had or someone with me has had, has been delicious. I'm a sucke for their wally mammoth because it has A-1 sauce. And that is sometimes the reason I eat steak. It's a great sandwich. I love that they have different bread options. And they're willing to work with you and whatever quirks you have regarding your sandwich. I'm not going to complain about the price, it's not crazy expensive and you get what you pay for. Fresh ingredients and quality product. They have a great assortment of hot sauces and glass soda bottles and I frankly, love the staff. I like people that leave me the hell alone to stuff my face.
(5)Sarah E.
I finally got a chance to eat here after wanting to try it for months! I really really wanted to love this place, BUT overall, it was just OK. They have a huge variety of sandwiches, but they are all overpriced. $4 for a 5-inch "mini" sub? Holy cow. I settled on a Luigi, which is a classic italian sub sandwich. It tasted amazing even though it had slightly too much oil on it. BUT it was still delicious and I ate it in 4 bites. Overall I like the variety of sandwiches, but it's hard for me to pay a lot of $$$ for a sandwich.
(3)Tess B.
Om nom nom Wally's. I like this shop an awful lot. Mini subs are just the right size for my mini tummy. I get to draw on papers or napkins and put them on the wall. There's a place for me to pimp out my small business' cards. The soda machine has giant angry eyes. The only thing I could complain about is the nonchalant attitude of the staff, but eh, it's Olympia so that's pretty much standard. At least they bring me my sandwich if I sit down somewhere instead of just yelling it out and making me move to get it. Lots of meats, lots of veggie options. You can make your own, or order one of their specialties. Many of them have funny names. (I always giggle at the BLAT, I think of the sound a ray gun may make in a cartoon, or a brass instrument of some sort... BLAT BLAT BLAT!!!) My faves: Guac n balls, pesto change-o, falafel, roast beef with au jus (don't know if I spelled em all right... but dayum, there be some nummy sammiches.)
(4)Josh Z.
Why minus one? Just the price. The staff is great, everyone has been nice, even when they are really busy, and they always seem happy to work, even when delivering to Skep next door. The bread from SF Bakery is delicious. The sandwiches are really really good, but a sandwich and drink can run $10 which is crazy. I've eaten here over a dozen times and ever time has been spot on. The wall drawing are great for reading when bored.
(4)Laura M.
A large and versatile menu! There really is something for everyone here, and you can customize it the way you like. My sandwich was very meaty and filling. I thought the prices were appropriate for the quality and quantity of what I got. The employees were friendly and helpful, one kind man helped my son figure out the plinko machine, which was a lot of fun. My only minor complaint was the loud music. It had a bit of an industrial feel to it, which wasn't the kind of thing that's fun to listen to while eating. I'll definitely be back.
(4)K G.
I'll start with the negatives, which are few and minor. The place is loud. So, if you're looking for a cozy spot for conversation, this isn't it. The music's cranked too loud for that. And, it isn't exactly the fastest sandwich shop in town. But, it is the best. Unlike the chains, this is real, full-flavored food. They have a ton of options, including well-labeled vegetarian and vegan items, gluten free ones as well. They are limited on sides and beverages, but the sandwiches and wraps are so full of goodness you don't need anything else.
(4)Nick W.
I learned something about myself last week that one hit wonder Lit tried to tell me many years ago. You've got it my friends, "I'm my own worst enemy" I'm not my own worst enemy in most aspects of life, in fact I'm usually quite fond of myself... but hand me a piece of paper and tell me to develop my own sandwich, oh boy do I mess that one up. I can never make myself check anything else if Sourdough is an option. I want jalapenos on everything. More varieties of meat means a better sandwich right? All the veggies! All the condiments! Sigh. Realizing this might be a weakness, I took the advice of fellow yelpers and sought out their much acclaimed mustachioed sandwich, Luigi. Brilliantly complimentary flavors, yummy melty cheese on a slightly toasted sub... count me in. They also deserve major extra credit for the fact that you can order a sandwich and then walk to the new tap house next door and they will bring it to you. Well played Wally.
(4)Heather S.
I could probably be sentenced to eating at Wally's every meal for the rest of my life and be happy as a clam. Sandwiches are my favorite food and Wally's knows sandwiches. There are tons of options as to what you can put on your sandwich, way more options than at a chain restaurant. It's also really affordable for a local indie shop. My current favorite is the vegan tempeh reuben. They put creamy avocado on in place of 1000 island dressing. My god, it's delicious. And they have tater tots to go with this epic sandwich. TATER TOTS. Oh yes. And for you non-vegans...they fry up bacon fresh for their sandwiches. Quiznos and Subway like, microwave theirs, I'm pretty sure.
(5)Rebecca L.
romance finding love is always an interesting set of motions. you spend your life looking, but then you give up, and that's when you find it. such is wally's sandwiches. i've been loving olympia, but have been a little disappointed at some of the restaurant/bar establishments, but right when i was going to give up, i find this wonderful gem of a sandwich shop right in the middle of a strip mall, next to skep and skein, a few doors away from a dollar store and grocery outlet. first, when you walk in, the intoxicating scent of fresh bread entices you that you start getting heady and can't read the board. It makes it hard deciding which sandwich to get, but i went with my first instinct and got the luigi. While the sandwich was being made, i looked around the wall at all the interesting pictures drawn by other admirers of this great sandwich establishment. (they say that art is to memoralize love, right?) by the time i got my sandwich, i was ready. i got it to go, but the sandwich and i didn't make it home. Instead, i went to capitol lake and ate it looking at the beautiful building and just consumed it. it was mighty tasty. so tasty that i'm probably going to be going to go there tonight to try another. so go to wally's and experience love and maybe draw a picture while at it. ps. on the wall of hot sauce, get the jalapeno sauce. it's like the green tabasco but better.
(4)Tony P.
Had the roast beef sandwich. $8.xx. Took 8 minutes but the bread was warm and toasty, and the sandwich was really good. The French dip is a little heavy on the sodium but good.
(5)Regan C.
Best sandwiches in town! Blows Meconis away! The bread provided by SF Bakery is perfection!
(5)Jason R.
I came here based off others reviews. It was alright at best. Waited 15 minutes for my sandwich is too long for a sandwich especially when that's all you serve. The bread was dry which made it very messy to eat. There was nothing special about the flavors or ingredients here. With so many good sandwich places to go to in town I won't be back to Wally's.
(2)Barbara O.
The turkey bacon is the best. Great customer service. Cool art on the walls. And great that they deliver to Skep and Skein (the beer place) next door.
(5)Greg S.
Love it, fully loaded sandwiches and curious music. also sweet location right next to Skep's!
(5)Alex M.
Always perfectly delicious! Wally's has a huge menu with lots of really interesting creations. They have really creative names for all the sandwiches and have several different options for bread choice, including pub roll, gluten-free and even Dave's Killer Seed Lovers sub (which is my personal favorite). Staff is friendly and helpful with suggestions. They allow substitutions and have a vast selection of hot sauces. One of the best things about Wally's is that they will take your order and then deliver it next door while you enjoy a beer at Skep & Skein. Another fun quirk about this place is that people doodle all over the napkins and on little pieces of paper, which are then pinned up all over a wall along the inside of the restaurant. This shows off the creativity of the patrons, appreciation of the fans, and creates a pretty interesting wall to stare at while you chow down. I always devour my sub like a wild animal and look forward to my next visit.
(5)Beth M.
Decided to stop in for lunch after reading all the great reviews. I have to say for a small strip-mall sub shop, this place was really delicious. They have many different hoagie rolls to pick from and a variety of specialized subs. I decided to try the Luigi with the ham, salami, pepperoni, etc. The service was quick, the roll soft, and there was a generous amount of meat and condiments. Yum! The only reason I am giving it a 4 star and not 5 star is that the music was way too loud. I was the only customer and the help had decided to rock out. Other than that, I will definitely return.
(4)Richard F.
I mostly eat vegetarian, but when I got to have a beef sandwich it is Wallly's that I crave. For weeks. Until the opportunity to have delivered to me presents itself. And they do it like you ask. I want my Oly Cheese Steak without the cheese, added lettuce and tomato and the beef burnt to a crisp. They are the only ones who take the time to get the meat like I want it, crispy. And piled high. On a substantial bun with real chew - like back east. If you are going to indulge, you want it right. Just finished the sandwich. Wally's does it right. Their hummus and pita are also perfect. And all the other items my staff order are equally appreciated. Westside Doc.
(5)Chris F.
3.5 stars, really. My latest sandwich (tempeh reuben) was only so-so, but that could have been due to an obviously new employee, or the unforgivable offense to the taste buds that is 1000 island dressing. Seriously, I'm not sure why I ever expect it to be any less disgusting, but my love for sauerkraut always wins me over to give it another chance. On the plus side, Wally's is always happy to sub out the avocado/guacamole sauce, so I will likely do that next time and I'm sure the sandwich will be A-ok. Dressing appropriateness aside, Wally's usually turns out a great sub. An admirable number of vegetarian and vegan options, or build from scratch. I don't often remember to seek this place out on its own, but frequently grab a mini-sub as a snack when I'm next door at Skep. Full-size if I need to absorb a pint or two too many. =)
(3)David D.
Very much a dive but wonderful sandwiches. Great menu. The salads seem to be out of a box and that was disappointing. The atmosphere is very "Evergreen" but that is part of the charm
(4)Rachel M.
Not only are they really generous with their portions but the atmosphere is fun. There's lots of customer art to look at while you're eating. Today our van's battery died and the guys working there offered to jump start us! Not sure of too many other restaurant staff being willing to help us like that. Thanks guys! We were able to continue on our family adventure with minimal stress.
(5)mcbealer X.
Five stars, yo! Doesn't happen very often for me. These guys deserve it. I liked everything about this place ... from the old-school chalkboard menu and vibrant music, to the the hilarious, creative artwork posted throughout, it's a fun place to hang out and eat good food. Your imagination's the limit here, as the crew quickly hooks you up with that decadent sub you've been dreaming about. The camaraderie amongst the people that work here is palpable, and it shows in the food. Nothing beats a meal made with positive vibes, and served with a genuine smile. Oh and the bread ... oh my, the bread ... incroyable! I got a whole Pesto Change-o sub on white, which was flavorful and stacked with the right amount of everything. I 86'd the onions and added havarti, but that's just me. When it comes to sub shops as a veg-head the options can get quite ordinary, and well - boring. No iceberg lettuce here. All the veggies were fresh, the variety is incredible, and the portions are generous although not so huge that you have to skip your next meal. Well done!

Delicious cool cucumber sandwich! The staff is very friendly and I really like the napkin art on the big wall.
(5)Ross B.
Hands down this place has the best sandwiches in the city of Olympia. Don't be silly and go to a crappy chain like Subway and get something inferior for about the same price, get your sandwich on here at Wallys!
(5)Rusty S.
The best sandwiches, awesome staff, they put your drawings up on the walls, place is great but sometimes it can take a while for them to make your sandwich, I mean like 20 minutes wait.
(4)Amanda R.
Really, really good sandwiches. I had the one with pesto and it was delicious. We were there right at lunch time and it wasn't busy. It did really start to fill up as we were leaving though. My dining partners had turkey bacon sandwiches and said they were also good. They are quite veggie friendly and I would definitely go back to try something else...perhaps the one called something like "guac balls?"
(4)Jennifer S.
Best sandwich's ever!!! I have eaten here many times and am never disappointed. Great food and fun friendly staff.
(5)Jane L.
Yummy! Made my own and it was tasty... They lost one star on me because they forgot my sprouts. I was super bummed since most places don't have those I wanted it really bad!
(4)Jaime S.
I love this place! Fresh ingredients used to make delicious sandwiches right in front of you. Customer service is also awesome. Best sandwich bar I've ever been to.
(5)Jennifer A.
Wally's did seem to go through some sort of depression a few months back, and I hadn't visited them in about 6 months (service was lacking) but I've been back a few times in the last couple of months and it seems to be back in the game. My sandwiches have been delicious, they have been delivered in a proper time-frame and service has been friendly.
(4)Bonnie B.
Been here several times, each time ordering something new (everything looks so good!). I'm never disappointed. Fresh ingredients, great service, wonderful food.
(5)Matt G.
I love this unique and charming sub shop. It has the laid back "greener" feel, great food, and nice employees. The napkin art is definitely a main feature.
(5)Annie C.
I love Wally's! Just thinking about Wally's makes me hungry. They have a couple of vegan sandwiches that are so good, and the Tater Tots are yummy. They have a lot of non-vegan stuff, but I wanted to write about their vegan options. My favorite is the "Meatball" Sub with avocado and marinara (just make sure you tell them no pesto, it has cheese in it) with a side of Tater Tots. We like to eat there (otherwise, we would never make it home without tearing into the bag) and admire all the cartoons on the wall, read the local papers, listen to cool music. The people who work there are great, and the food is always the best.
(5)Nick C.
Good sandwiches with quality meats and a large variety of toppings. I went with the tombstone it was good, my wife went with the Wally mammoth and it was even better.
(4)Glenn D.
I'm really surprised at the previous reviews for this place. I mean, they sort of fit my impressions of it from the outside. Had I bothered to read them before going in, I would have looked at it from the outside, read the reviews, and gone...yup, not goin there. Thankfully I did not bother to read these reviews and instead we took a chance on a hole in the wall place in the parking lot of a Grocery Outlet. Fridays are $5 subs...where any sandwich is $5. That's a killer deal considering you could get 5 different kinds of meat with like 5 cheeses, toasted and covered in honey mustard for $5. I went for the more traditional Italian sub which I thought was great. Tons of meat, cheese, and veggies on it. Lots of flavor and totally one of the best subs I've ever had. I think my wife is going to make me go back but there really is no need. This place is great.
(5)Natascha Z.
I've been coming here for over a year now for a quick lunch sandwich/sub. The sandwiches/subs are always delicious, and service has always been kind and quick. I don't have a complaint. Keep up the good work guys.
(4)Rene K.
My husband and I have been here twice. The sandwiches are awesome. The service is pretty top notch too. Its a little expensive in my opinion but a nice treat every now and then.
(5)Brent C.
I have tried it twice now and I am a huge fan now. I've had the Wally Mammoth and the Tombstone now. Both were absolutely great. Fresh toppings, good meats, good sized portions. Then there is the bread. It's locally fresh, it has texture and substance. Best of all it doesn't taste like an over-sized yeasty breadstick like the chain sandwich place. Great atmosphere that is fitting for Olympia with no generic Muzak at a soft level and fake people in a hurry to stand in line somewhere. It's real people with real sandwiches and a real food experience. Great prices too. Especially for a local place.
(5)Mike C.
Love this place. Great sandwiches and like the idea of filling the little menu out to customize your sandwich. Love the napkin artwork on the walls and the Oly ambiance.
(5)Dean S.
I'm finding out that sandwiches ordered here are better than others. I ordered an Lugi sandwich. It was made to order but really didn't rock my boat as my families trip to Noah's Arc in Bremerton. I expected this sandwich to be better but Noah's, a long distance, was better. Regardless, looking at the menu and seeing what I ordered is exactly what I ordered. It just wasn't as good as another sandwich. As I say this, this place is the best place for sandwiches in the Olympia area. I will be back, more often then my male "girlish' figure demands. This is truly a place of good heaven. Great food and great staff.

[Insert intro about how I love sandwiches, being sure to go on about how they may be the single greatest food item known to man] Wally's dishes up some tasty sandwiches. They range from simple turkey & cheese sandwiches to more eclectic chicken parmesan sandwiches. As is fairly traditional in a quick service restaurant with a focus on food smashed between bread, a wide selection of meats, cheese, veggies, and other such condiments awaits your customization. You can even mix up the type (not just flavor) of bread you want your meal on. When I went, they were out of what seemed like quite a bit, but it was late and they'd had a huge catering order that day so I can forgive the limited range of options on this occasion. Besides, I ended up with the chicken parmesan and it was delicious! Will I go back? Definitely! For easily less than $10 I'm set up with a quick and tasty meal. Plus, I have to check out their ice cream. So, yeah...
(4)Ky W.
My husband and I love Wallys. We've driven form Tacoma several times JUST for Wallys. I love that you can request a custom made sandwich, perfect for me because there are plenty of vegetarian options. The bread is good, the fries are good, I love Wallys! Took my inlaws here when they visited and they liked it too.
(5)C S.
Between Wally's and 5th Ave Sandwich, these are the best sandwiches in Olympia area. Good selection. Fresh, local breads.
(4)Karl S.
I have a new favorite sub shop in Olympia and that is Wally's. The quality and value are simply unbeatable. For reference, I've personally tried the Meatball, the Oly Cheesesteak, and the Buffalo Chicken. Each had ample amounts of toppings - no skimping here! Given the size and quantity of fillings, half a sub is all you really need in one sitting, though you'll be tempted to eat till it hurts given the deliciousness factor. I heartily recommend all three, though if pressed I suppose I'd have to appoint the Buffalo Chicken sub my favorite. But really, you can't go wrong - I look forward to branching out and trying others. The prices are quite reasonable, though the full is a much better value ($6.45 for the full; $5.15 for the half). (May I suggest ordering the full and packing up half to take home as soon as it arrives? I did mention the unfortunate temptation to eat till it hurts, right? Plus, you're getting two meals for $3.23 each! What a bargain!). The quantity and quality more than justify the price. I'd be remiss if I didn't commend to you the ice cream. It's Cascade Glacier brand and they choose some seriously fun flavors. The Chocolate Habanero is excellent, if you're into spicy chocolate. My one (very minor) beef with this place concerns the staff. Don't get me wrong, they're diligent workers and wait times are reasonable. Also, they're courteous. Courteous, but not friendly. Not once, in my three visits, during which I ate in the restaurant, did I see a single staff member smile! Not even when I initiated some friendly banter. In fact, I think I saw one chuckle without smiling. Creepy, actually. That said, you'll be treated respectfully and the lack of smiles and friendliness (again, as distinguished from courtesy, which they have in abundance) don't dissuade me at all from returning. Seating is somewhat limited - groups over 5 are difficult (9 of us tried and have to divide ourselves into two groups). Try Wally's! I'm thoroughly indebted to a co-worker who pointed out its existence to me, for it's easy miss. But now you know - you'll love it!

Wally's is in a strip mall on the West Side of Olympia but still has the same funky atmosphere as many of the local downtown haunts. In other words, it's not for everyone, but is a great place to grab a nice lunch. The girl at the counter was friendly and seemed to know the sandwiches, even if she didn't know everything about the specials. I had the Oly cheesesteak and my friend had the "fullawful"(written on the ticket this way) sandwich. Both had fresh bread, nice fresh veggies, and a good amount of filling. I loved the cheesesteak, but it's far from traditional, with cheddar and cream cheese. The falafel was baked (nice), full of flavor and a bit messy. I highly recommend both of these for outstanding taste. Owner introduced himself and thanked us, a nice touch missing from most businesses. Heed the soda machine warnings! It sprays if you're not careful.. Great experience, great variety of food. I'll be back, a lot.

Over the last few months, I've eaten a few more Sandwiches here other than my regular Luigi namely: 1. The Oly Cheesesteak which was of course, not an authentic cheesesteak but wonderful in itself. Roast beef grilled with green peppers and onions on a toasted sub with cream cheese and melted cheddar. Heavenly really. Add Jalapenos for a little kick. 2. The Meatball Sub which was also delightful, loaded with meatballs and hearty marinara. Much better than most meatball subs I've eaten in and out of town. 3. The French Dip au jus which was again just a beautifully crafted simple sandwich served with their lovely, warm jus. Next up on my list is the Wally-Mammoth and their version of Ham & Cheese which sounds so so good but man their sandwiches are so good, I can't get enough of one or two types so I keep getting those. Also they have an awesome "Hungry Student" deal which is a full sub + packet of chips (good chips, not lays) + fountain drink w/ free refills for $7.45 (just a dollar more than only-sandwich). Oh man I love this place, the food, the staff, everything. Will keep going back again and again and again and again........

Wally's is spot on for custom sandwiches! There selection is second to none! The fixin's are always fresh and the bread is always rockin thanks to another local great.. The San Fransisco Street Bakery! If you become a regular and have a go to sandwich just pop it up on the wall and call ahead! Your tummy will thank you =)
(4)Zachary P.
Wallys kicks the ass!!! I've been here five or six times and never had a single complaint. The luigi is my fav, with the tombstone being a second. The wife loves the oly cheese steak and the BLAT. I have not tried the 5th Ave sandwhich shop yet, but I guess I am going to have to see what the hub-bub is all about, but Wallys is definitely amazing and worth every penny!!!!!! And its one of the few places in Oly with a check in offer... i would give them six stars if it was an option.
(5)JP M.
The Reuben was good but a little light on the corned beef. The Gyro was very nice with great, chunky feta. Pretty much a "2 evergreen guys making sandwiches" place though. Unremarkable and no compelling reason to come back. 5th Ave. sandwich shop wins hands down.
(3)Terran W.
The last time I went a first occurred. I didn't eat every little bit and I needed only one napkin. Boo! They recently started getting bread from San Fransisco Street bakery. Now, don't get me wrong but SFSB makes some fine breads/pastries and I've been a fan for a LONG time, but... and this is a big but... the bread, at least the Hoagie roll, is just too plain hearty and wholesome tasting for a sub sandwich. The flavor of the sandwich is lost to the general over-breadiness. This is, sadly, becoming more prevalent in local businesses, and it is an annoyance to me (see my review of The Reef.) The roll simply lacks, perhaps it needs more salt, or a longer pre-ferment? Increased filling portion sizes? More sauciness? I dunno, I'm no professional. But dangit. Change for the worse is hard to accept. Kudos for switching to a local bakery, but Wally's has sacrificed some of the flavor in this move. I've downgraded my previous four star rating. Perhaps the sandwich loaf has improved or maybe the Hoagie quality loses something in the toasting process? Next time I decide to go back, we shall see, we shall see...

Awesome sandwiches. Been there twice. Had the mammoth and the tombstone. The bread is fantastic Makes for a great sandwich. Portions are good and the prices are fair. I've already planned my next sandwich. I'll be designing my own since they have a menu you can customize. This is a gem of a sandwich shop on the westside. I forsee many trips over lunch and dinner.
(5)A'dje D.
Super delicious, veggie friendly, but because its so popular, you can end up waiting for a bit to get your sandwich. They are also a bit on the higher end as far as price goes, but they are independently owned and don't have a chain of stores to rely on, so it makes sense. Good little sandwich spot if you are in the area. They also deliver over to Skep next door if you are having a drink. Good combo.
(4)Laura B.
Best sandwiches I have had in Olympia. They will deliver your order next door to Skep & Skein (great beer) and you can eat there. Very large sandwiches, they do not skimp on the fillings. But it was so good I ate it all anyway. I had the French Dip which was excellent and my husband had the Italian Stallion which was even better. Highly recommend.
(5)Sarah B.
You have to understand I LOVE sandwiches. I could go my whole life never eating a single other type of food, really... well, maybe salads here and there. Not only that, but **I** make THE best sandwiches ever. So you can imagine my snooty pickiness... That being said, I've been to Wally's before and the first time we went we became instant fans. The sandwich (Wally Mammoth) was UH-maaay-zing. Downfalls were how *incredibly* long (20 minutes) it took to make a couple sandwiches. It's a sandwich, for crying out loud... and the cleanliness of the place. Today was the same, except my sandwich was merely, great, not amazing. I generally prefer to get my order to go so that I don't have to sit at sticky tables or use the musty restroom. The sandwiches are an A+, though. I've enjoyed, so far the Wally Mammoth, the Pesto-Chango and the Luigi. I intend to try the Falafel next time, as I'm attempting to go Vegan. I only gave Wally's three stars because of the facilities and service. If the facilities were clean and the service was quick, I'd give them four. The food is great, but not five-star great, in my opinion. My sandwiches, on the other hand are five-star UH-maaaay-zing. ;o)
(3)Robert V.
Usually pretty good but last time we went they tried to make our sandwich with moldy bread but luckily we saw them and had them remake it. Plus its hipsterville in there and it took way to long. Wallys you dissapoint me.
(1)Christina R.
Its pretty good, but I feel like its nothing out of the ordinary and that I can make it at home. Prices are average for subs and what not. But I'm failing to see what's so great about the place.
(2)Sven G.
Terrible, surly service. The sandwich itself wasn't bad (Reuben), but it took a long time to prepare. When I inquired about the sandwich I got a snarly reply from the obnoxious teenage attendant. Won't be back.
(1)todd s.
We were at the bar next door and ordered from Wally's based on a recommendation. First we ordered a basket of tater tots and a basket of waffle fires for our table of 6. All agreed that both items were undercooked nearly to the point of being inedible. Had we not already had 3 beers each on empty stomachs they would have been returned. The waffle fries did have a nice seasoning mix on them and it's nice they are baked instead of fried but please do not serve them limp and soggy. Later we ordered a gyros and a BLT. Both were just ok and out of balance. The gyros had good flavor but needed more meat. The same was true for the BLT or maybe just reduce the size of the giant bun for the BLT. I live nearby but wouldn't go back unless I was at the bar next door. We'll likely try again but order the tots or fries well done.
(2)Karly C.
Do not go to any other sandwich place in Olympia. There is no reason to. In addition to one of the greatest menus you could ask for, you can fill out a slip and get exactly what you want. Their veggies are always nice and fresh, and the employees are always nice and make it fun to be there. Seriously, you can forget all about Subway. This is the place to go.
(5)Marc S.
Don't order the gyro here. It's a decent size and price ($5.50), but it's not very tasty. For one thing, there isn't much meat (beef, no lamb), and it's just two sandwich slices (maybe three, but I doubt it). Lettuce, with some other veggies mixed in, plus a little feta and (blah) tzatziki sauce is all you get (along with a blah pita). Save yourself some cash and make it yourself. By the way, why are there no napkins, and why is the only hot sauce available vinegar-based (not good with a gyro)? It's nice that pop refills are free, but that's not enough of a reason to come here. My brother swears by this place, so I'll probably be back. To be fair, this is only a review of the gyro, as if THAT isn't already obvious. Anyway...
(1)steve k.
Really like the sandwiches, but what's the deal with the way too loud music? Been to Wally's three times now and each time the music has been too loud to carry on a conversation with my lunch partner without shouting. Choice of music is OK, but for Christ's sake, please TURN IT DOWN!!
(3)Travis D.
It was ok. That's the best I can describe it. I would not go out of my way to visit. 5th Ave has them beat and its not even close.
(3)Geoff M.
This is a good independent sandwich shop, with a relaxed, hip atmosphere, that offers interesting options and is far superior to the sterile, soulless corporate places.
(3)Alyssa V.
This town needs more sandwiches (if you ask me, there is nowhere in the world that couldn't use just a few more sandwiches) and Wally's is there to deliver. Don't hate them for making you wait; it's been worth it every time. The ingredients are fresh, the sandwiches often enough for lunch and the dinner, and the employees rad and down to earth. Shoot, there's even a soda fountain.
(4)Chip B.
I was hungry just reading the reviews and looking at the pictures! I ordered the Mammoth and my wife ordered the B.L.A.T. We both liked our sandwiches but we didn't LOVE them. We both agreed that the bread sort of overwhelmed the sandwich. I was expecting a lot more quantity of fillings...I didn't get it. I'm talking the mounds of meat and cheese that you get at someplace like Meconi's. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it...but I expected more. My wife liked the amount of bacon on the sandwich but agreed that there should have been more tomato, lettuce and avocado. We will certainly be back. The menu choices are great. I don't usually eat cranberries but the turkey sandwich ingredients makes me want to give it a try. If their gyro is good, I'll be hooked.
(4)Brett C.
I have put a lot of Wally's sandwiches away since first trying them, and I have to say that if anything, my opinion has gone up. The service is fast, friendly, and they have never botched my order. Until a couple of months ago I worked a short distance from them, so it had become my "go to" spot for lunch. Unfortunately I now work in Lacey and don't generally get enough time to head over to Wally's for a lunch treat, but when I can I sneak over and feast. I've created a bunch of my own franken-sandwiches, but I love their Luigi and Wally Mammoth so those are my standards now. Can't say enough good things!
(5)Chelsea G.
This is a sandwich shop on the westside that has extremely spotty service and it's a bit of a crap shoot whether or not your order will be correct, you get it in a timely manner or if it's even good. They have a website which includes their menu and the names of sandwiches like the Italian, but good luck with trying to order it over the phone, they will have no idea what your talking about. I've tried their Italian (which was awful, it was so incredibly salty that I threw it away), the turkey surprise (which is very good), their chili (which when ordered via delivery arrives cold and they no longer put cheese on top of it), the gyro (was really 'meh', was NOT anywhere close to a real gyro but didn't taste bad). roast beef is incredibly dry but their meatball sub is great. If you use their delivery option, please allow for lots of time, it will typically take somewhere around 1.5 to 2 hrs before receiving your food. The last time I ordered for delivery it took about 2 hours to arrive and when it did, someone had packed the soups on the bottom of the bag and piled everything else on top of it. The Styrofoam holding the chicken soup broke and it made a huge mess and we were left with soggy sandwiches, chicken tasting York patties and no soup. I will probably be eating there again because they deliver and it's local and their turkey surprise is very good but it won't be on a regular basis and I would advise caution for new people.
(2)Yosafena C.
I dig Wally's. I enjoyed the Monday special... mini sub for three bucks! More than enough to eat. I chose the Italian. MmmmMmm. While all the sandwich innerds were impressive and delicious, I have to say I wasn't totally appreciative of the bread. It was soft and pillowy and I prefer a crusty bread that scrapes up the roof of my mouth. Otherwise, a fine experience. Very quick, helpful service. Nice vibe all around. I most certainly will continue to choose Wally's above the bazillion fast food choices in the neighborhood.
(4)Bob G.
This was a dying sandwich shop, but has been Wally's since October, 2007. The current owner has turned the place around and added toasted sandwiches and burgers to their current mix. They have a fairly simple menu with "Salads", Subs, Sandwiches, Soup and Burgers. My daughter tried the Chef's Salad shortly after they changed owners and was not impressed - they pretty much used their sandwich lettuce with torn up sandwich meat, tomato and cheese. I had their soup of the day and a toasted Ruben sandwich. I was wondering if I had something bad as i was feeling almost like I had food poisoning, but that probably the Death-in-Box meal from breakfast, as the feeling started way too soon after I finished eating for it to be from Wally's. I would definitely give this place a second chance. That being said, I noticed that the current owner just listed the business for sale on Craig's list 2 days ago. So it is more of a be cautious if you dine here.
(4)Juli M.
Remarkably bland, undersized subs, cut improperly, stuffed sparingly with mediocre ingredients (only the veggies were really worthwhile.) Surely one can do better elsewhere in Olympia?
(2)Pat A.
My wife and I moved to Olympia about a year ago and have had trouble finding great places to eat. We don't get to eat out very often, due to our budget, so we tend to have high expectations. Wally's is a great place for sandwiches. The interior is very "Olympia" and the service is sort of slow, but the time making the sandwiches is worth it for the delicious food. We have had the Luigi and the Gyro, both were so good we finished a whole portion in one sitting. Which is a lot of food and made our stomachs sore. Having free roasted peanuts as an "appetizer" was a fun touch. We found out after our meal that Wally's will deliver your food to, Skep and Skein, the bar next door so you can eat your sandwich and enjoy some beers. Next time we will order our subs and go to Skep and Skein and enjoy some beers during the, sometimes, long wait for a sandwich.
(4)Nater B.
...Ok so the first time I was here I was just not impressed. Lackluster interior, and free peanuts were not there. The menu is sorta standard for sandwiches, I was hoping for a little more creativity in the varieties. Sandwich bread was cheap Franz crap that sells for $0.99 for a bag full. I'm gonna give them another chance, but so far, meh. I mean I guess its ok, but not amazing. I think this goes back to this whole thing where theres very little variety or competition so everyone thinks its good when they have never had better. I've heard so many people say good things about this place. I guess I'm a sandwich snob. Beats the pants off subway though!
(3)Spencer v.
This was THE sandwich place recommended to me by people who know the area and I definitely have to agree. Some of the older reviews of Wally's are pretty harsh, but I can safely say that they've probably changed since then. The extensive menu is great, but the best part is being able to fill out a simple checklist and just hand it to the deli worker, ensuring your sandwich is always made correctly. I basically made my own club and it was perfect! The wait time is a little long for a sandwich (10-15 minutes) but the staff is nice and the place is clean. Tons of options for a great toasty sandwich. Good price too! Why would you ever go to Subway instead?!
(4)Bri D.
Forget Subway, this place rocks. After an interesting experience at the Grocery Outlet that shares a parking lot with this place, we decided on giving Wally's a try. The guy at the register was eating a sandwich when we walked in, I thought that was funny, and after he finished chewing and then swallowing, he asked if we had ever been in before. He briefly explained the concept to us and I quickly grabbed the created your own order ticket and sat down in a booth to create my ultimate sub sandwich. I finally concluded with a turkey and bacon with havarti cheese, black olives and copious amounts of mayo and honey mustard. Let me tell you, this is the best sub sandwich I have ever had, hand down. The bread was super soft and chewy, but substantial enough for the loads of meat they put between it. The turkey was flavorful and juicy and I could tell that it was turkey and not some cheap mystery meat. The bacon was tasty, thick, and crunchy, a perfect accompaniment to my delicious sandwich. Man oh man, I want another sub just thinking about it. If I get a chance, I will certainly be back again.
