Great sushi. Fresh. We always get the Rockstar roll. We got it with salmon once but we're disappointed. The lobster makes the roll. It's amazing!! Casual dress/business casual. General Olympia restaurant with "come as you are feel" My hubby and I get three specialty rolls and are properly full. (No apps, sometimes get an IPA to drink).

Awesome sushi fresh and beautiful rolls with great flavor and nothing is bland like the other sushi places ive been to around Olympia/Lacey!

Hands down the best quality in Olympia. My visits here are frequent and they are always consistent. The portion size is worth the price. You won't need to order a lot. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. If you like hot green tea theirs is regional and really amazing. Huge variety of rolls so there is something for everyone. (Even the non-sushi fans).

Honesty not sure how Koibito is rated higher than this place. My husband and I frequent this place like once a week. I am a lover of all things Asian food... this is no exception. Our favorites are the Dragon Roll and the Crunch Roll. DIVINE. Do not skip on the gyoza... it's delish. If you are craving sushi, don't disappoint yourself by going to Koibito or GOD FORBID the freaking grocery store.... just go to Sushi House. Please.

My wife and I moved from Seattle to Olympia about a year ago and the one thing we were desperately missing was good Sushi. We tried all the recommended places and were sorely disappointed and sad that we wouldn't have access to good sushi anymore. Then one day we stumbled upon this joint and were blown away. This is hands down, honest to God, no bull the best sushi you will find in Thurston county. The staff is nice and knowledgable, the food is fresh and presented cleanly, and the price is reasonable. I didn't try anything but sushi, however, my wife and son loved the gyoza so give that a shot. Easy 5 star review.

This is by far our favorite sushi bar ever! We travel frequently and try sushi in every town and this is right among the best we have ever had. The bento boxes are amazing, as is the teriyaki chicken and salmon is always perfect. As far as sushi, the dynamite and rockstar rolls are amazing. Also they have a wonderful Saki menu

Total pleasant surprise for Olympia! The decor is bright & cheery with a modern clean Japanese decor. Seating choices include booths, tables, sushi bar and a traditional kick-off-shoes-kneeling-low traditional Japanese table. On this Friday night the parking lot was full which indicates a high sushi turnover, which you want when eating fresh uncooked fish. Sushi Combo A was perfect. It includes a tuna roll and the remainder is chef selected. I am definitely coming back for more real soon.

We just moved here from the east coast and are looking for our new go-to sushi spot. With mixed reviews on this place and a tight college budget on our hands we were afraid we might be wasting our money trying this place out. We didn't! This place is amazing!! My bf and I both each got our own handroll and then shared the Sunset roll! They were all to die for. The quality is really good, but the signature rolls were a little expensive. Which is what we expected, that's why we shared. We will be returning!

Amazing! What a hidden gem! Super fresh and beautifully presented. Much better than my experience at other oly sushi restaurants

Edit: 10AUG15 we must have hit a bad stretch here. Past two times eating here have been down right disappointing. Service has seem to taken a down turn equipment keeps breaking and the sushi was mediocre at best. We have been seeking out other places to enjoy sushi. We were highly impressed with sushi house. We had reservations and got seated promptly. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. We ordered a few of the specialty rolls and they were all delicious. She recommended the 1000 Island roll which was a refreshing take on modern sushi. I was impressed because i rarely find a decent sushi place that still uses wasabi to "glue" the fish to the rice in Nigiri. And on the nigiri the pieces of fish were HUGE. I was highly impressed.

My favorite sushi place in Oly! The servers are always friendly, even if the pace is a little sedate--I don't go here when I'm in a hurry, but I've never felt ignored. The sushi is yummy: my father can't get enough of their tuna sashimi, and he's very picky with his tuna. The portions are huge, if a little variable, compared to some sushi joints. I swear I get at lease 1.5 whole, ripe avocados when I order two avo rolls and sometimes the cut on a single piece of nigiri is the size of two standard portions. Great bonus: they have gluten free tamari if you have allergy or sensitivity issues!

Best sushi ever! We drive 60 miles to come to this sushi place! It's just awesome! Hands down the best sushi for miles around. Clean and hospitable. Good service and yummy!

This restaurant has some quality sashimi. I think every time I've been there, I've just shared the sashimi platter and I have had no regrets. It's perfect every time. The servers are amiable and attentive, and the Sushi House itself is very nicely designed. This is a good place for nights out and anniversaries.

Had dinner here on a Friday night. Made a reservation for 6:30pm and was sat promptly at that time. The place filled up around 7 and people were waiting for tables. The service was so-so. Kind of slow, hard to get a refill even though our server walked past us a thousand times. The food was pretty good though. Creative rolls and they are big! I got one specialty roll and a cone roll. Plenty of food for me! We also got a tempura avocado app that was so yummy! I would recommend this place, as long as you're not a demanding and needy person! Good chance you'll get annoyed with the service if that's the case.

Great sushi place I got vegetarian Maki there and it was awesome and the service was even more awesome because they were so helpful in explaining how they can make the Maki's for me.

If you're looking for a fantastic place-- check out Aya Sushi on the west side. One of the owners previously worked at sushi house, so it's the same great food but a nicer interior and service. Great selection of rolls and great options for the kids too (Teri chicken or beef) but the customer service and wait time is unpleasant......

A Sushi House gets a solid A rating from me for good, consistent reliable business practices. From the beautifully decorated dining room, well thought out seating plan, to include a quasi tatami room, the overall experience is authentic Zen. I was promptly greeted at the door, and then given a choice of seats. Once seated, the hostess immediately took my drink order and then clearly stated that my server would be over to take the rest of my order. The waitress delivered my tea, and I ordered the tempura roll and a hand roll sushi. The sushi was good, fresh and beautifully presented. The dishes and earthenware added to the overall Japanese experience. The food is good. The service is great and the cleanliness and decor of the establishment is excellent. My overall experience was above average. Thank you for a pleasant dining experience.

Hmmm... 4 things that stuck out to me.... 1- got the order wrong. 2- ant in food. 3- hair in food. 4- still got charged full price.

Excellent lunch special with great variety; the salmon teriyaki is delicious! Sushi is consistently among the best from Olympia to Fife. It's my favorite place if you're down by Trader Joe's or Olympia Mall. Plus: it's a little out of the way while still near everything. The specialty rolls are quality and tasty; prices around normal to a tad high at $12-$15. The chefs are skilled. The service is consistent and generally friendly while not too intrusive. The decor is simple and elegant with traditional floor seating in the back, regular seats at the bar and booths & tables throughout the rest. Because it's a bit apart from the mall / Cooper Point build-up, you almost never have to wait for a table which is awesome.

  • Jonathan B.

good sushi at decent price. I had the sushi combo A. The nirigi selection was excellent. The tuna roll wasn't bad the chef put way to much wasabi in the rolls.

This visit was a huge disappointment. We've here before so we know what the "portion" size should be. Today's visit will be the last. We ordered a "Large" Sashimi Platter. What came out looked like a small platter with pieces cut into 3. Every thing about this $60 platter screamed small. We asked our server twice if the size of the platter was correct and she came back to confirm that it was. Don't come here if you have high expectations or wish to be full. We had to go eat at another restaurant after leaving "Sushi House". If you are on a diet or have a small appetite, then enjoy.

Fresh Fish, Fantastic Sashimi, Great Service and So good! It's nothing fancy, but if you enjoy fresh sashimi- this is the place to try.

My fiancé and I love the Sushi House. They have a great lunch special that is cheap and fills you up! I recently tried the Rainbow till for the first time and let me say, the fish was so fresh! I definitely recommend this place!

  • Teri H.

LOVE the Sushi House variety, quality, and service! I like it that the chefs offer different menu items frequently and sincerely ask for feedback. I go there every chance I get, when I am craving sushi!

Nice little gem on the west side. We wish we had tried the Sushi House sooner. Fresh fish and very accommodating to kids. We will return often.

Well we have lived less than a mile away for about 4 years now and always talked about stopping in at the sushi house but for some reason mostly mixed reviews here on yelp kept us sway. So we were out shopping with the family and we all wanted sushi for dinner. Ago was our first stop with only one table full we decided a slow sushi restaurant does not bode well for fresh fish. So off to Sushi house and it did not disappoint I had the Bento 4 which I highly recommended. Good service, kid unfriendly, and fresh fish will definitely be back soon

  • Jennifer K.

I only eat sushi here, and have found Sushi House to be the best sushi place in Olympia. Yeah, it's not great, but it is good and fits the bill for simple nigiri and the usual rolls. If you're not a fan of K-rab, watch out, as it's in every fancy roll they make. (It will be eliminated from the roll if you ask.) Bonus one star for waitstaff and chef being knowledgeable about gluten-free options, and providing gluten-free soy sauce on request. I enjoy going to Sushi House for casual dining, although the radio tuned to 90s soft rock usually makes me want to stab myself in the ears with a chopstick.

The fact that they call this place the "Sushi House" is a misnomer as the sushi here is TERRIBLE! Just about every sushi roll on the menu, both "special" and regular, has a California roll base (fake crab, avocado, and cucumber). The only difference is that the special rolls (AKA the extremely overpriced rolls) have some form of seafood on top. Any time you see this in a "sushi" place, you should run for the hills. I should have listened to my own advice! Our sushi order consisted of two rolls (a special roll with scallops and salmon and a regular Philly roll), a lobster hand roll, and an order of albacore nigiri. The "special" roll was simply a Cali roll with tiny pieces of scallops in it and salmon on top. It mine as well have been called the fake crab roll as that is what made up 99% of the filling. The salmon on top was probably the best part and even then it didn't taste very fresh (I'm thinking it's from a frozen piece of low quality salmon?!). The Philly roll was awful. It was 75% cream cheese, with a little cucumber and odd-tasting low quality smoked salmon mixed in. Unfortunately it wasn't rolled tight enough so it fell apart as soon as you touched it. I probably should have just sent it back. The lobster hand roll was 90% rice with little pieces of fried lobster on top. I'm not convinced the lumps of fried lobster were actually lobster as it tasted really fishy and nothing like lobster should. The albacore nigiri was definitely the best thing we were served and even then it was just okay. I should mention that our service wasn't very good despite the fact that the place wasn't busy. I think we waited between 20-25 minutes for our food... which is way too long considering what we ordered and the lack of customers. Here's the thing... if you're going to serve crappy sushi, at least adjust your prices to reflect that. This place is charging the same amount of money for their "fake sushi" rolls as other places are for quality ingredient-filled rolls. For the sushi order above plus a chicken yakisoba and two drinks, the bill came to around $47. I can't say I've ever left a place more disappointed upon knowing I paid around $50 for a truly despicable meal. Oh, and the best part of all this?! About five minutes after we left this place my side started to tingle. Then the palms of my hands, bottoms of my feet, and face started to itch. Yes, that's right, I had an allergic reaction to something I ate. Now, I have NO known allergies and I eat sushi all the time... my guess is I had an adverse reaction to a preservative in either the fake crab or the low-quality smoked salmon. If that isn't a very clear sign to never return, I don't know what is!

This is the highest quality sushi in Thurston county so I keep going here but I seem to have selective amnesia at how bad the service is. Dinner service is better than lunch but it's still pretty slow and you have to ask for refill on your water every time. I usually get my appetizer about 2 minutes before the main course and 45 minutes after I order it. Drinks are served around the same time. I don't think I have unrealistic expectations about service but there seems to be no effort at this restaurant. If you do go there, they've got something for everyone. The spicy chicken is high quality meat, the crunch roll is good if it's your first sushi experience and uneasy about raw fish and the sashimi is good quality and the right temperature. If you're used to Seattle grade sushi and are expecting that, you're sure to be disappointed but if you want decent sushi in a Olympia and you've got extra time on your hands, it's worth a try,

Pretty good Sushi. We got a Bento Box and, Sashimi and some of their specialty rolls. The fish was FRESH. Service was great. A little pricey for a bit above average sushi. It was about $25 per person. And we didn't get a lot of food. It's on par with Osaka out in Hawks Prairie as far as their Sushi goes. Much better than the Teriyaki joints that are also pushing Sushi in this area. And a LOT better than those merry-go-round cheap ass sushi bars.... But what's with those restrooms? This is my pet-peeve with asian run restaurants. How in the hell can you expect people to come back with a restroom that looks like that? I was even thinking of taking a rating star away because of that NASTY place. I heard the womens RR was just as bad as the men's! I really don't understand the restrooms here -- the dining area is REALLY NICE, the outside is nicely landscaped. Did they run out of money decorating? Do they have a private restroom for the owners and don't give a crap about the customers? This would cause me to consider some other place to eat because I'm not sure the kitchen is any better. OK, so eat here, but use the restroom at home before you come and this could be a 3-4 star experience. P.S. It did look like the restrooms were freshly painted when we went there. So please don't tell me that they've been remodeled. NOTE TO OWNERS: Go to Red Robin and check out their restrooms. Notice how clean and inviting they are? Now go back to your restaurant and take a good hard look at what you're trying to pass off as a restroom. Remember that you're prices are also about $10 per person more than Red Robin and think about what kind of person you're trying to get back in the door after they've eaten your yummy sushi the first time. Want them to come back and spend money? Now get out the phone book or Angie's list and start calling remodeling contractors to come make your rest rooms look at least half that nice and you may have a viable business for the next 15 years....

Extremely disappointed in the sushi here. The selection must have not been fresh. An hour later, I was very sick from eatting here. Skip it, not worth being sick.

For Olympia, this is the place. Every time I come, consistency of great looking sushi and never sloppy. Only thing they need to do is remodel their bathroom.

Uhhh HELL NO. I drove all the way to Olympia from Seattle to visit some friends and wasn't in to mood to be disappointed, but unfortunately................... 1. They were so "busy" they ran out of glasses for water...there was only five people in our group ...really? 2. 1 hour+ wait for our food 3. My homegirl found hair in her food. She got it comp'd though so at least that was good... 4. People who came in an hour after us got their food the same time as us -____- SMH Reaaalllyyyy though!!! Hire more staff or get some better waitresses cause obviously somebody forgot bout our orders... I call this place sushi jail instead of house cause that's what it felt like waitin up in there

They serve delicious and fresh salmon sashimi

  • Rena C.

I just went tonight with a friend and I'm remarkably impressed. I was kind of sad about the sushi findings in the local area, preferring often to go up to Seattle to have sushi once in a blue moon. Well, no longer! The little place I go to up there is still better, but Sushi House has more than won my heart. The waitresses were very good, the food was plated beautifully, and the sushi was GOOD. Not "ok", not "not bad", but very much good. The fish was fresh, the combinations in the special rolls were delicious, everything was really terrific and I couldn't be more pleased! My friend got the Dynamite Roll which was different from others I've tried but really delicious all the time. I got the Sushi House Roll and the Hawaiian Roll (it has real crab in it and it was fantastic!). We were both very happy with our sushi and can't wait to go back.

Great sushi, we left stuffed as usual. Casual but nice enough for our anniversary date night.

  • Kendall B.

Not the best sushi I've had in my life, but definitely my favorite in Olympia. I also like their seaweed salad, and the miso soup is pretty good too. I find their prices to be affordable. And as a bonus, we took a friend here on her birthday and they presented her with a plate of mochi! Yeah!

  • Andrew B.

Great place to grab dinner! The sushi chefs are very friendly and incredibly talented. I have never had a problem here. Also, the waitresses are very nice and care for their customers. I definitely would recommend this restaurant. Great rolls John!!

Looking at all the other Oly sushi restaurant reviews, you see a trend: everyone is talking about teriyaki and katsu but they don't try the sushi and perhaps even recommend you stay away from the sushi. And rightly so. OK, maybe they talk up the California rolls, but that is just avocado, krab, and cucumber. No fish freshness to judge! This is the place we go when we want sushi. I've never tried the teriyaki. I've also never had to wait for service or had bad service. The servers and chefs are remarkably stable over the three years I've been going, which is a good sign. OK, I will grant you that it is a Japanese restaurant run by Koreans, if authenticity matters to you. More alarmingly, they will sneak Krab into rolls where it is not in the menu description. I hate the stuff, so that is a cardinal sin. They are slightly redeemed by having gluten-free soy sauce on hand. But all that is hand waving. The bottom line is: the fish is as good as any in town and better than most. It is the only sushi restaurant in town that I go to FOR SUSHI. I have no reservations about recommending this place for dinner if you have a hunger for sushi and can't be bothered to drive to Tacoma.

I would say this is the best Sushi in Olympia hands down. At first I wasn't too impressed but lately it seems like the quality has significantly improved.

  • Russell P.

By far the best sushi in Olympia. The service staff can be bad, but the two chefs know what they are doing. Some people would rather have good service in a restaurant, but some would rather have good food. To me, it is unbelievable that this place has so many bad reviews. Olympia, this is why we have so few good restaurants, we are not smart enough to recognize what actually makes a good restaurant, and then ignore the few that are actually good. LIKE OMG!!!! They didn't have my Philly roll ready the exact moment I walked in, I had to wait 20 minutes for it! At Bayview they had it all premade when I walk in, in fact they made it yesterday in anticipation of my arrival! 1/5 for you Sushi House!!!!!!! Also!! If someone orders a Philly roll, please ignore their opinion on sushi.

  • Kelsey S.

While the food was pretty good, the service was so terrible that I doubt I will go back. First of all, the waitress was kind of rude. It was FREEZING in the restaurant so we asked if the door could be closed. She said "Uh.. yeah sure." And then just went back behind in the counter. Second, she messed up our order twice. Third, I had to ask for the check three times. And when they finally brought it, I waited with it at the table for about twenty minutes then took it up to counter. Once I did she looked at me and said "I'll be with you a minute." Where I stood at the counter for another five minutes. I noticed that around me other tables were having to get their own menus and continually ask for their order to be taken as well.

  • Tess B.

High quality fresh fish! Salmon is delicious. I am practically addicted to their miso... minus one star because my friends got sick there once last year, I've heard rumors about their health inspections, and iceberg lettuce drowned in dressing with a few shreds of carrot does not count as a salad in my book.

  • Jenny C.

love this place, the sushi is always fresh, the prices are a bit high but its worth it for quality sushi. my husband and I used to go to another sushi place off of 107 but their quality has diminished greatly. we found this little gem and are hooked. will continue to go to this little gem.

  • Dylan H.

I've eaten here 6 times now and have always left happy. It doesn't compare to some of my favorite haunts in the International District. Can I just say Chinatown? I'm Asian, its ok. Truly, its Sushi in above average form, with exceptional salmon skin salad and other novelties.

    (4)
  • Chastity W.

Love the Philly 2 and the Salmon w/ Avocado. I get those at least once a week. Salmon is always fresh and the avocado is always perfectly ripe.As for dining in, service does tend to be slow. But I like the person I dine with, so I'm never in a hurry to just eat and leave.

I am learning great sushi/sashimi is truly hard to find. And it seems to me the size of the city (critical mass of people) is a primary determinant in the quality sushi restaurant you will be able to find. My dining experience thus far in Olympia continues to find 'good' but not 'great' sushi and sashimi. We were excited to try the 'Sushi House' as we typically go to other restaurants due to proximity and convenience. Our initial walk in and sit down experience was pleasant as we were seated right away on a Thursday evening with no reservations. The restaurant was busy with patrons, a good sign. Our first appetizer choice was steamed gyoza and a sushi special called 1000 Island. Both were excellent. The steamed gyoza is a nice change to fried, and the 1000 Island sushi was delicious. The salad and miso soup were also good. Unfortunately my wife ordered spicy chicken teriyaki as her entree and we both did not like it. We couldn't figure it out but the chicken did not seem fresh. I ordered a sashimi plate and the fish was quite good. No points for presentation or creativity however, as the fish pieces were simply cut and thrown on the plate. But the sashimi itself was quite fresh and tasty. Our server did a good job as well. I would say restaurant cleanliness was fair. Grabbing the glass soy sauce dispenser with others finger prints all over it makes you wonder, but what can you do. I would give the Sushi House a good rating but I am still on the lookout for 'great'. Perhaps it's time to hit the big city...

i went here with a friend that really likes the place, so i was predisposed to like it as well, and overall i did enjoy my time there. but in my book they did not have one of the most important things to offer on a sushi menu, which is natto! granted that is a me preference so i will not harp on it, but natto makes my day!!! i ordered nigiri toro, sake, and saba, and all tasted fresh enough (i believe that all sushi in the us is thawed from frozen-its the law...), but some of the nigiri rice was very loosely packed and fell apart with handling. i also ordered the garlic chicken which i enjoyed but it is not really a japanese dish, and the rice portion was so small! no asian restaurant should serve so little rice, it is a sin!!! of course i did not ask for more as i was trying to lose weight anyway, but...alcohol was good though, which contributed to my having a good time! service was good, i would go back!

  • Mayo C.

Bad food, mediocre service. I got the sashimi donburi, which implies that the sashimi pieces would come out on a bowl of rice, because that's what it means in Japanese. Instead it came out on a bowl of iceberg lettuce. Are you kidding??? Perhaps the people writing 5 star reviews don't know what real sushi/Japanese food is like. Quite disappointing. This restaurant is not for authentic japanese food lovers.

  • Molly H.

This place is just not good. It falls into the mediocre category of sushi that you can get in any mid-size town all over America. The crab is all KRAB, even though this is not disclosed on the menu. The rolls are obnoxiously large, but also over-priced for the quality. The best thing is the Salmon nigiri, but is it any wonder why? It was a good thing that was fresh because nothing else was. Oh yeah, expect a really long wait. When we went they only had one sushi chef for an entirely full dining room.

I live down along Black Lake and pass Sushi House every time I go into downtown, go to work, drive up to Seattle...so needless to say I've eaten here on far too many occasions! The freshness of the seafood is always very good. Shame they seem to focus mostly on cooked rolls but you can always enjoy the quality fish in a simple maki roll or sashimi, and the cooked rolls probably make this a good option for sushi newbies. I feel like the more I eat here though, the less Sushi House delivers on overall value despite the quality fish. I don't know if prices are slowly creeping up or what, but it seems like I can never get away from here for under $20/person--even for a small carry-out w/o beverages or extras like the seaweed salad (which again, is good!). Last night my order for two basic rolls and a small sashimi ran me $35! For a sit-down experience the atmosphere is nice, but again does not warrant the price. 2 people getting comfortably (not overly) full on sushi and splitting an app, with one beer, can easily set you back $60+. This just seems high compared not only to other places in Olympia, but to some of the best places in Seattle, where the sushi is so fresh it literally disintegrates in your mouth, and even at peak hours I've never spent over $50 between two people. Happy hours in Seattle can cut that bill in half and still deliver an equal or better quality sushi in a better ambiance. Again, for Olympia Sushi House delivers a consistently high quality dish with good ingredients. The staff can sometimes be friendly, sometimes not. The price point just seems to be missing the mark. The newer option, Aya Sushi, just up the road tucked in near Mud Bay Coffee and the Walgreens is quickly becoming my favorite for atmosphere, friendly staff/chefs, and quality/size of portions.

Best sushi in Olympia and reasonably priced! I enjoyed the atmosphere as well. Can't wait to go back!

Hands down the best sushi place I've ever tried. I love the traditional Japanese seating in the back, the staff is great, and the sushi is simply amazing! I've eaten here for years, and have NEVER been disappointed! They also have a fantastic lunch special that includes 2 specialty rolls, 2 miso soups, and an appetizer for $20. It is a great deal! My favorite rolls: Dynamite roll Olympia roll Tuna box Rock star (well worth the money!) Dragon roll

Came here on a weekday evening craving some...well, sushi. I was pleasantly surprised, although it was far from the best sushi I've tried and I didn't think their sushi options were particularly mind-blowing, innovative, or unique. But our food was fresh and tasty, including the sashimi platter and the spicy tuna hand rolls. It all arrived at our table fairly quickly, borne by our continually flustered if friendly waitress, and disappeared just as fast. Verdict? A pretty good Oly option.

FROM 2008: Absolutely the BEST sushi in Olympia - HANDS DOWN. Sit at the bar and let the sushi chefs take you on a ride with their favorites, specialites, selections and fresh fish. While not as spendy or high-style as urban or major metropolitan sushi houses, you can NOT get any better in OlyWA - that's for certain!

Avoid this place if you don't want to choke or end up with bloody, punctured gums. I found a bone in my tuna - a freakishly large, razor-sharp bone! It was a nightmarish sort of thing that only happens in the worst of sushi restaurants. From this moment forth, this place will be on our black list as the "Sushi House From Hell." The chefs really don't know how to balance flavors. The nigiri was overloaded with wasabi and some of the rolls were too heavy on the thousand island & ranch sauces. It totally overpowered the taste of the seafood and left me a little sickened. The service is worst of all. The house wasn't even packed and already the wait was long. I ordered the hamachi, as did the gentleman at the table next to us. It took the server all of 20 minutes to tell him and 30 minutes to tell me they don't have hamachi. Add that to the time it took us to re-order and wait some more. They didn't bother coming by to refill our water, ask how we are doing, or even apologize for the wait. I have fond memories of this place from 5-6 years ago. The prices were more reasonable then and they gave us free edamame. The sweet older Japanese lady who was our server is now replaced by a bunch of 20-somethings dressed in "chic" black outfits. It pains me to give a place I once like 1 star, but this one has really hit rock bottom.

I frequented this place when it opened, left for NYC, came back about five years later, and it has gone waaaaaaaaay downhill. I remember the fish being very flavorful and being presented beautifully. Things have definitely changed. I ordered Sashimi Don Buri which is sashimi over vegetables with a side of rice and some kind of spicy sauce. Wanna know what the vegetables are? Iceberg lettuce. No joke. Oh wait.. a little radish on top. My dad got "Chef's Choice" of twelve pieces of sashimi. White tuna, salmon, red tuna and red snapper. No presentation whatsoever. You couldn't decipher taste or color-wise between the salmon or tuna. Also, the fish has preservatives. Phosphates. That weird silvery/oilonwater look on the fish? Not exactly scales. Phosphates. Seriously? I came back from NYC to avoid overpriced bad food. But there, for under $13, I can get twelve pieces of GOOD sashimi, a california roll, rice, miso soup and iceberg salad AND somehow presented better (this is delivery too, folks). At Sushi House we spent over $50 with tip for bland, not fresh, phosphate riddled sashimi lazily presented. Oh. And only water. No frills. Service was either green (she was fairly young) or it just sucked. I might stop by, hoping that this was a waaaaaaaaayyy off night, but if that experience fails too, I'll never return. Waste of money.

I used to live in Olympia and this was my favorite restaurant. Now that I live up north I still want to make trips down to the Sushi House. They have the best sushi I have ever had and I used to live in Asia. They have a great selection and they always use the best fish for their nigiri. The place has an amazing atmosphere and is really great for dates. They also have a great selection of sakes, beers, and plum wines. Absolutely worth every penny!

Reading all the reviews that say, "Best sushi in Olympia!" I have to 1. wonder about the past experiences of these diners or 2. Weep for the sad state of sushi in Olympia. For, if this is the best sushi in town, then there's really no point in getting sushi in Olympia at all. Let me tell you about my experience. Came in with my best friend, hungry and excited for some fresh raw fish. We were seated, but then left to our own devices without even water to quench our thirsts. After ordering from the polite waitress, we got some miso soup (the best part of the meal, in retrospect) and then our sushi after a short wait. Unfortunately, the sushi came without little soy sauce/wasabi bowls, and the hot sake we ordered was completely forgotten (and needed to be requested again). All of the service errors I can forgive. The food, however, was inexcusable. Our sushi nigiri selection looked too-big and not-too-fresh at first glance. I liked that we got a "chef's selection," however, and was looking forward to being surprised by an assortment of fish. My friend took a bite first, and seconds later her face WRITHED in pain. What had happened? I learned that each piece of nigiri was LAYERED with WASABI. WHaaaa? Sure enough, each of our 7 pc set was simply ruined with a huge glob of wasabi hiding underneath the fish. I tried one, thinking it couldn't be that bad---and promptly felt like I was going to blow fire from my nostrils and suffocate. Not cool. Our other menu selection was a speciality role--the Black Cobra--that we chose largely because of the way it looked on the picture menu. Unfortunately, the roll came out WAY too big, unattractive, and nothing like what the picture conveyed! The Ungari we were looking forward to looked like it had been sliced from a larger slab kept in the freezer. The bites were just too big, and the "crab" we were supposed to get was Krab (thanks for the heads-up, menu). We were so disappointed, and both of us could say that we had never been unable to finish sushi until our experiences at Sushi House. I am by no means a sushi snob (I'll eat at the cheapest, dingiest sushi-boat around), but the mammoth too-hot slabs of fish that we were expected to stick in our gullets was laughable. Sushi House is NOT the best sushi in Olympia. But it might be the WORST sushi ever!

sushi house has the best salmon out there!! sushi here in the states don't compare to Hawaii's sushi! but the salmon here in the northwest is great! ive tries some sushi place around Washington and find that the sushi here is pretty good... and i will pay for good sushi, but with the places we have been to and paid all that money.. i expect to have damn good sushi!! and was disappointed. then i heard about sushi house and i was pleasantly surprise!! what a hidden jem!!! now i always go back to have my salmon cravings!!! the only thing that i have to say is that the service is not so great!! they need to train their staff on how to serve their customers... and the girls working there need to be just a little bit happier! maybe they will make more tip!

I dined at this joint recently with a friend and was DISAPPOINTED HORRIBLY by what I was served. I should've know better than to venture off the beaten track at these semi pan-asian restaurants, but I thought I would give it a try. My gut instinct was to go with something normal.... teriyaki chicken? But oh no...I had to be adventurous and go for not just spicy chicken, but spicy GARLIC chicken- a combination of two entrees that I thought would have fused nicely together. When I asked our waitress if this would be okay, she didn't hesitate and gave me the look of approval on my selection. Well...the food SUCKED! It was as though they used the same charred chicken for other dishes and doused it with sweet chili sauce and a heaping mass of minced garlic and put it on a plate. WHAT A MESS!!!! I could have made this dish 10x better and what upset me even more is that they are charging for this nasty ass concoction! I also ordered a spicy tuna handroll that was again disappointing. If you are going to charge $5.00 for a handroll you better at least make it appealing and appetizing. It was disgusting! Although the ambiance was nice, I came for the food and was hugely mislead down a dark path of tasteless nasty ass food. Good LUCK!

Very tasty miso soup, very much 'Americanized' sushi. Matter of fact, im not a fan of traditional sushi, not a seafood lover. But I CRAVE the Olympia Roll. It's deep fried. This is what I mean about 'Americanized'... The service has gotten better over the last 2 years or so. There were some rude lazy waitresses for a while, but they have gotten better. The Sushi House makes orders to pick up but dont expect it to be ready when you get there!!!! The Olympia Roll also makes this annoyance tolerable. House sake is good too. That makes the rude waitresses tolerable.

This is some of the best darn sushi I've ever had. Right on par and even above some San Francisco sushi houses. (try the black tiger roll!) But please don't look to this review for any depth, just go forth and foodgasm. I'm still too full to write that much. FABULOUS NOMNOMNOM

I really like Sushi House! The first couple of times I went I didn't have the best service, but lately the staff has been great. I haven't tried anything that I didn't like! I only get sushi rolls, but I know that they have teriyaki and a couple other things as well.

Seattle-quality sushi house in Olympia. Very friendly service, excellent quality food. I agree it may not be as fancy as some higher end sushi places in Seattle, its as nice as any neighborhood sushi place, and the selection of rolls is really great. Lots of choices if you're dining with non-sushi eaters, including bento boxes, tempura, yakisoba. We have eaten here about 4 times in the past year and have received consistently friendly and good service.

The food really does seem to keep getting better; they're increasingly-prone to improvisation and innovation, which is really what makes for good sushi. Despite a number of things wrong on a recent trip (orange juice that had plainly gone off; seated next to a table of people shouting and banging on the windows) I still was satisfied overall and intend more than ever to go back. Sure, they can't tell the difference between a request for furikake in custom box sushi and a request for some futo maki, but that's forgivable on a very hectic night, and leaps and bounds better than the first time I went and had an argument with a totally miserable, out-of-his-depth chef who couldn't even make proper futo maki. The current chefs are upbeat and willing to take requests, and the specials they advertise -- from the array of elaborate rolls and box sushi on the menu to e.g. the fantastic vegetable sushi sampler they've got right now -- are fantastic and well-considered. A suggestion: the tuna box sushi is fantastic, but please get it with some hot sesame oil. Divine, really. Also the tempura yam is now as good as any I've had in Vancouver. Good stuff, Sushi House. Those five stars will be within reach soon! What needs to improve that won't just magically get better: service when busy suffers badly, the spelling of sunomono on the menu. The rest seems to be just a matter of time.

I would like to take a moment to make a comment on folks who may be posting inaccurate or unfair reviews. Many times you may go to a restaurant for the first time and have a horrible experience. Before criticizing a business, please consider the dynamics of your visit. Was it a busy time of the day? Was there some problem with delivery of their product? Was the Health Department FAIR (what would the health department say about your kitchen/fridge/toilet?). So often I read remarks that have nothing good to say at all. Having been a regular customer of Sushi House AND been present with the Dept of Health was scolding them IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS!!!! I ask that folks be fair to this business. I have had my good and my bad experiences here. When I have had bad experiences, it was usually due to dynamics and communication. Be fair. There is always something good to point out, and be fair about the bad remarks. Some of the comments made to the owner by the health department about their "bad marks" were bull crap in my opinion. You may think your comment is funny, but remember, folks really consider reviews when they are considering a business. Watch your judgements and be fair. I really like Sushi House and their staff are almost always kind to me. Everyone has their day. Don't ruin their business because you set a bad tone and therefore had a bad experience. Sushi House consistently serves fresh fish with smiles and kindness. No I am not related to anyone here, only know them because I am a customer. If your fish was bad, you should have told them so they had a chance to make it better. Sushi House is the ONLY sushi joint where I have never had bad fish (yet). It happens. Let them know so they can correct it. Not saying anything puts the blame on you, then the next person comes in and has a horrible experience too. If you want great service and a chance to ask questions about sushi, and not be rushed, visit them around 1-2 PM. Great time to visit and not be in a rush. I hope this information helps. It is not intended to offend.

Crap! I just read the health dept review on this place in the O today. I'm gagging and dramatically clutching my throat just thinking about it. Forty five marks against them! I'm thankful I had the good sense to make just the one visit. Gross!

The best sushi in Olympia. We were treated to traditional setting, great service, an AMAZING sashimi salad and some great rolls. I will definitely be back! Since Koibito fell from its former glory, I haven't known where to go. Now I do.

My husband and I absolutely LOVE Sushi House. We actually had our first date there. We moved away for a couple years, but we are back in Oly. We have been back a couple times since then and have been a little disappointed to see how expensive it has gotten. So now we don't go as often...but still good!!

They had an excellent selection of sushi as well as other types of food. Their salmon was deliciously fresh. I don't even like salmon but it didn't taste fishy at all. The albacore rolls were delicious and were so filling I couldn't even finish it all. My coworkers also loved their sushi rolls. I was surprised at the amount of rolls they had with cooked fish. The service was excellent and the atmosphere pleasant. I thought the prices for the rolls were extremely reasonable considering how much they give you (under $8 for 8 pieces). I will definitely be going back again this weekend with some friends and trying some sake and mochi ice cream!

Olympia's best sushi. Good service, and the rolls err on the side of larger than normal. I had two rolls which was a mistake - one would have been plenty. But both were quite tasty, and I ate them both. We've tried all manner of sushi delivery in the oly-lacey area - train, boat, belt, etc. - and this is the best.

Went here for dinner once. The place was packed. We finally got a seat and waited for service. The service was not that great. Very slow, forgot to come and check on us. After I ordered our food the wait was long, but they only had 2 sushi preppers. Finally our food came and my Naguri was huge. My wife ordered the soft crab roll and that too was very good. I would say one of the best in town. Overall a ok experience. I would say they need to work on the service though. We wanted to get a couple of other rolls and Naguri and I had to get another server to take my order. Then we waited so long we weren't sure they even put the order in. But it finally came. It is a little pricey though, but the food was good.

I just ate the worst sushi I've ever had in my life. My husband and I dined here tonight and now we have horrible stomach aches. We are avid sushi eaters (we had sushi at our wedding), and we are sorely disappointed with the food here. When our "Sex on the Beach" roll came out, it smelled fishy. Although I knew better, I had half of the roll. Big mistake. Now, I am clutching my stomach. The service was extremely slow, too. This is the second time in my life I've left a restaurant without tipping the waiter. (Usually I leave a 15%-20% tip.) Please do yourself a favor and drive to Seattle for real sushi.

New specials are amazing and NOT fried! They finally got it....now if they would do thin hamachi with the tiny jalapenos over sticky rice......I would be happy!

Olympia's best sushi restaurant, without a doubt. First the bad news: one of the sushi chefs is a homicidal, demon-possessed maniac who will intermittently try to kill you with wasabi. You can't predict which ones or when, but some nights about a third of the sushi rolls you order will contain so much spicy green death you'd best hope the other ingredients are cheap, 'cause you sure won't be tasting them. It's not limited to the sushi; the sunomono (listed on the menu as "Snomono" and if you try to order it by the *actual* name, the waitresses will correct you - "snow mo' no"!) is also Russian roulette wasabi doom. Secondly, all the waiters are apparenly robots kept in pods in the basement and rebooted each night. There's no other way to explain waiting tables in a sushi restaurant for months without ever learning about sushi. If you order anything, you must refer to it by exactly the name on the menu - don't pronounce is correctly if it's spelled wrong (snow mo' no!), don't use the Japanese name for a dish listed in English (it's seaweed salad, not wakame) or the English name for a Japanese one (it's kanpyo roll, not gourd pickle roll). If you request a roll that isn't on the menu, expect to receive whatever's on the menu that sounds most like what you tried to order. Not a big deal, but kind of weird. Anyway, if you can survive the wasabi and killer robots, you will be treated to rice of excellent texture, fresh ingredients, creative house specialties, good solid roll assembly, crisp tempura, wakame (er, I mean seaweed salad of course don't laser me nice robot) with lots of sesame oil and generally delicious food. I recommend something from their specials whiteboard; they're usually tasty and kinda fun. And what's a little SPICY ROBOT GREEN DOOM when tasty sushi is on the line?! Don't you feel lucky? Of course you do. Go eat some sushi!

Love Sushi House, my boyfriend and I can't get enough of this place! Food is great if you eat in or pickup to go. Only downside is they are closed on Sundays and parking lot can get full.

I really enjoyed the Sushi House, and was very impressed to order a chef platter with whatever sashimi they decide to make, and get all my favorites! They don't skimp on quantity, and everything seemed very fresh. The service was excellent. I will definitely go back. The decor is not particularly charming, but its clean, spacious, and feels good.

Sushi House has a good selection of rolls and pieces, OK service and a nice atmosphere - modern and warm with lots of wood. It's about on-par with sushi places in larger cities and definitely a cut above the other sushi available in the Olympia area. My only complaint is that some of the rolls are so big that you can't eat a piece in one bite. Consequently the whole thing falls apart with rice spilling across your plate and you end up feeling like an impossibly gauche gaijin. For this reason it is sometimes necessary to order your food to-go and snarf your sushi in the sanctity of your own home.
