Clam Chowder and Fish Tacos are some of my favorite foods, and Duke's does not disappoint! In fact, they have the largest variety of both of these that I've seen around. Though I haven't had the opportunity to try all the chowders and fish tacos, the ones I've tried are outstanding. The staff are friendly and the food presentation is fun. Duke's is ideal for a casual, but tasty lunch or dinner when shopping at Kent Station, catching a movie, meeting friends, or anytime!

Love this place! Been here on many occasions for lunch meetings and dinner w/ family and close friends. If it's your first time, you should try their chowder sampler so you can taste all 5 of their award-winning chowders. Cozy atmosphere, great welcome, friendly service, great food and presentation, a bit pricey for regular lunch and dinner menu but the happy hour appetizers are not so bad.

Love this place!! This is our go to place on our date night. Happy hour is excellent! Best drinks, and food. My husband isn't even a fan of seafood and he loves the chicken here. Best mojitos you can get anywhere! Freshly made!

Way over priced for the amount of food that is served. Have been there 3 times and have left feeling the same way every time...decent, but nothing to write home about.

Great chowder!!! The Kent Station location is clean and cozy with plenty of space and service during lunch. This is a chowder house so try the chowder.

I have always been of Dukes!! That's all I am going to say....not really.....this one doesn't have the huge cookies that Queen Anne did, but the drinks and food and service were still great!!!

Went to Dukes on a Wednesday night. It was pretty empty. My friend and I stood behind a man who was already inpatient from the moment we walked in from waiting to be seated. About 3 servers just walked by us without any acknowledgement. The man in front of us actually had to stop someone walking by and request to be seated. After he was seated we stood there for another 8 minutes starring at the waiters hoping to get seated. Finally we are seated, we order drinks right away. Drinks are ok, nothing major. I wanted to try their chowder. It is a chowder house! Flavorless. Boring. Skippers has WAY better chowder, I wouldn't waste $7 on a small chowder again. We waited for about 20-25minutes after our drinks were gone for someone to come by. They never did. And the restaurant was practically empty. There were 4 other tables seated in the whole place. Noone ever came by..... I had to actually get up and stop someone and ask them for a drink. They said they would be back. They weren't. Waited another 10 minutes and stopped someone else. They began to help us and our waitress comes out of nowhere "oh sorry.... what can I get you?" So we ordered drinks WITH the check because WHO KNOWS when we would see her again. I'm the type of person, I always tip 20% no matter what. Good or bad service. But once I begin having to SEARCH for you, to get seated, to order, to refill..... that's when I start doing YOUR job and I don't pay for that. So I tipped her 10%, hopefully she got the point that absence doesn't get paid . SMH Don't think I'm going back there.

Our waiter was very nice and the sourdough bread was incredible but they dont make it there. The fish and chips was very average. My nephew got the Jack Daniels chowder and wouldn't even eat it... and the addition of a side salad to the meal cost $7. My total for a 2pc fish and chips with caesar salad and strawberry lemonday was $30. Severely overpriced for a very average meal.

i had lunch here a couple of weeks ago and had a great experience. i had the northwest chowder and chop chop salad off the gluten-free menu and they were both delicious. our server was top notch and was really conscientious about making sure i could eat safely. a nice bonus is she brought me chips and salsa when she brought out the bread for everyone else.

Not sure what it is about this place! Since it's opened, they've been good to me. I always sit at the bar and lemme tell ya', they are on it like a bonnet when it comes to servicing their drinkers! I love, love, love their traditional chowder and the lobster chowder is never a bad choice. When it comes to salads, they've got it down with fresh, crisp lettuce, crunchy croutons and veggies!! I also adore the decor. I'm a bit of a nautical lova so my adoration could be bias but this is just a great, cozy little place I like to hit up and get a little buz at before catching a flick! Muah!!

I don't 1* a whole lot of things, but dishonesty is something I wish I could negative ten, and this was the case at Duke's, plain and simple. It was raining, 35 degrees, and I was on foot. I'd gotten my hair cut at Humanity Salon, looked around at a lot of mediocre seeming sandwich shops, and walked to Kent Station, which turned out to be a mall and not just a transit depot. I almost got sushi, but I didn't know about the place. I don't do chipotle and similar mass produced stuff. Duke's had "award winning" soup--though I doubted it would compare to Pike Place Chowder, which in the original's case it definitely did NOT--and my cold nose was ready to stop sniffling. Ordered an amazing salad, and I wish that's all I'd done... well, no, I don't, because I wouldn't learn what a JERK Duke Moscrip is if I had only praise for you. The salad was the greens one with candied pecans and tarragon vinaigrette. The soups, though... tried the chowder--blandddd--then the pernod, which I opted to get more of... only to be SICK AS A DOG later. Why dishonesty pisses me off? MSG. Soy allergy. Being told it is from scratch and made there when it's dumped from frozen stuff made in a factory. Anyone doubting me can go to Costco's website, look at their "sampler" with the regular, pernod, etc. and not only see they use "enriched" (not even whole grain, despite The Duke claiming it's a purely WHOLE food) flours... but more critically, find these ingredients: hydrolyzed soy protein (MSG AND soy) maltodextrin from corn (MSG) modified corn or potato starch (MSG) autolyzed yeast extract (MSG) Then check for these words that don't imply "whole" in the slightest: flavor flavoring (even in their butter, eww!!! That's lousy butter if you have to "can't believe it's not!") dextrose sodium phosphate Even on the so called from scratch, "clam base" is canned clams; they wouldn't be soaking in oil were they fresh from the Sound. Granted, all of them are using canned these days, but it doesn't mean it is fresh at all--I can just as easily dump a can of clams into some broth and butter and dump cheap garlic POWDER in it, too. Garlic POWDER. Insulting. Onion POWDER. You wanna charge me $11 for a few hundred calories, for 12oz soup with FOUR KINDS OF MSG and GMO corn (the stuff that alters your stomach's natural bacteria and makes most people produce a pesticide-specific bacteria in their gut, hence me never eating soy/corn/canola/cottonseed in the USA) in it? F-you. Worst of all, DUKE MOSCRIP the jerkfaced owner asked ME to apologize. In telling him to read his own ingredient list at Costco, where the soups are sold in freezer bags, he said he was still waiting for the apology and acted like those weren't in it. You won't catch me apologizing for you messing with the health of families who are told they are being fed sustainable, local, always fresh foods. They aren't. There's nothing whole or fresh about this junk. The salad can't even make it 2*s. Anyone can make a good salad. Instead, I sent him this: dft.ba/-bestingaduke He finally STFU. And that. Is how. You beat. A duke.

Not only am I Gluten Free, but I ADORE seafood! This place has a gluten-free menu (just ask for it) and the staff are lovely. You will pay a pretty penny for a meal, but it is worth it for a special occasion. I spent my birthday there because they sent me a free birthday meal with the purchase of another entree. Make sure you sign up for their newsletter, which will send you great discounts and specials (like for your birthday), which helps you to save a lot of money!

Had a drink and some yummy food at dukes last night. It was a beautiful night to sit outside! The food as always was delicious! Started out with the "un-crab cake". The waiter was correct..more crab, less cake! Then I had this new dish, it was pieces of grilled salmon on romaine lettuce leaves, dressed with Caesar salad dressing! You could pick each one up like a taco. The waiter was very nice, and he treated us to a nice glass of wine! Random acts of kindness and fabulous food!

A go-to spot in Kent Station for Happy Hour, good beer specials, decent but limited drink specials, some good HH food to choose from. Just got some stiff competition next door from Cal's, but it's still a fun Happy Hour spot.

The service was really good. But, I feel like the prices are really expensive for a mall restaurant. I spent $15 for a hamburger the size of my palm, salad the size of my entire hand, and 10 fries...I know it's a seafood place, but I'm not paying $30 for salmon.

Dukes Chowder House, need I say more. I stopped by here after my first day of proudly serving my country (jury duty). I ordered their famous bowl of Clam Chowder and the Chicken Quesadilla. The food was fantastic, the hostess had a smile and friendly, the waiter was awesome. Basically I got a warm welcome and fantastic service. I had a two hour lunch which they didn't mind me sitting here from 1230pm - about 215pm or so. Their hospitality was great, wasn't pushy and in my book that is a PLUS! I'll admit, I took my time and wanted to see how they would take it. In fact, I do this at every place I eat just because I am paying to dine in and I wanted to see which restaurants are eager to get rid of their customers. Wouldn't you agree, that if you worked hard for your money and treating yourself to a dinner that you should be able to take your time to enjoy your meal and if you want, give the chef your compliments. I see people complain about the price, it's seafood at it's best and what did people expect. I mean Duke's is a well known-named restaurant here in the Puget Sound. The food is a pricey but that's what I was expecting. I felt like I was at home here and I definately will come back because they deserve my business which is my money, haha!

We've eaten at Duke's on Lake Union but this was the first time in this location. Because it was Friday night and the fact there is a theater next door the place was packed @ 6 PM. We bellied up to the bar (only single seats available). The patrons saw that I was standing and offered to move down so we could both be seated at the bar. Nice people, that doesn't happen in Miami. Many different kinds on wine and beer all cold. We each had a bowl their award winning clam chowder (their specialty) in a sourdough bread bowl and it was as good as we remembered. Also split an order of fried oysters, good but lacking flavor. Brian, the manager, and the three bartenders were very attentive and service was great! The place thinned out after the movie started so I would go after 7:30 PM on Fridays.

This review is based on the 9pm-close happy hour... My other half and I usually come here for the late night happy hour (9pm-close) and they ALWAYS have great service. They promptly bring you water and a complimentary basket of warm bread. The happy hour menu is around $5 for food and drinks. I recommend the jr. bacon cheeseburger and the clams. If I was judging the clam chowder, I would've given them only 2.5 stars because i still think Ivar's has the best clam chowder.

We love the food and atmosphere at Duke's, but honestly the reason we keep going back is because of our server, Mike. Mike makes us feel like we're a guest in his home; he talks comfortably with us, not like an "automaton" with canned lines. He always gives great recommendations and we've never been disappointed. The food at Duke's has always been perfect. They start off with a basket of sourdough bread and butter that's actually soft enough to spread (aka not frozen!). We usually get a salmon dish, or some other type of seafood. The chowder sampler is pretty cool too. Their drink and dessert selection is very good too. This is a great place to wind down after a long day, go on "date night", or to watch a game -- they've got it all. Bonus = clean, well-maintained restrooms!

I ate here with my girlfriend twice in three days; once for dinner and once for their afternoon (3-6 p.m.) happy hour. The service was excellent on both days and the food was very good; I highly recommend the steamers. My girlfriend planned the first outing to Duke's and called ahead for reservations and requested a quiet booth; we had fantastic service and the booth was in a quiet location in the back of the restaurant where we could sit next to each other and enjoy each other's company. As I mentioned, the steamers were fantastic; probably the best steamers I have ever had at any restaurant and I should know--I've had steamers at highly rated restaurants throughout the San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas. The second outing to Duke's was during their afternoon Happy Hour where appetizers are only four ninety-nine and beer on tap is only two ninety-nine. We were a bit early for happy hour but the bartender was our server (you have to be in the bar area for happy hour) and he was very accommodating and charged us happy hour prices even though we got our beer fifteen minutes before happy hour officially started. We had the fish & chips and the coconut prawns. Both were excellent. I especially like the fact that they use Panko bread crumbs for the fish breading as this adds a light and crispy texture. Moreover, they use Alaskan Cod which is very high quality and very tasty.

I'm mixed on my review ~ the chowder is splendid and hard to resist but the price is out of this world crazy at $6.99 for a cup and $10.99 for a bowl. I agree with one reviewer that the chowder isn't piping hot it's lukewarm. Service is hit and miss. The atmosphere is a strange combination of flat screens placed at the ceiling in awkward spots for viewing, strange layout maybe fooling us into believing it's casual dining but then when you sit down and you get the linen napkin you begin to realize this might be a little more expensive than I realized. Then...look at the menu and go ooops...maybe another time when I'm feeling like I want to spend this much money for this type of dining experience. My suggestion...only go there if you are in the mood for an awesome tasting chowder...ask for it extra hot and keep ordering bread..it's free.

I've eaten here three times and I've finally concluded that there's no hope for this place. Although some menu items are quite good, most are merely average. The service is very good, but the the prices they charge for mediocre food will make you feel dirty. A friend and I ate dinner here last night. They had a special; side salad, cup of chowder, and a half order of one of their less expensive entrees. I had fish and chips, my friend had fish tacos. Here's what I got: a tiny ceasar salad, a cup of chowder (which is good, but not exceptional), and a half order of fish and chips which includes one fish fillet and 7 or 8 fries. All of this was okay, although the fish was about as interesting as something from your grocers freezer section. My friend and I also split a crap dip, which was excellent - the one gold star. We had no alcohol and our bill for that was $70 w/tax and tip. A bill of half that size would have still been excessive. I felt dirty leaving that kind of money on the table for what was basically one small frozen fish fillet and a cup of mediocre soup. So, SO not going here again.

Dukes comped us two free entries and this trip was much better. The staff was friendly and the food was great!!

I go to Duke's occasionally to exploit their monthly-coupon deals and the happy-hour(s). Some of my favorite menu items have changed or been removed: halibut quesadilla and salmon club, which was changed to a melt rather than a club and later removed. Their endless bread (or at least I've always received endless refills for my bread), chowders, mahi-mahi tacos, and tuna wasabi quesadilla are still great. They also have a decent selection of beer on tap and a well-stocked bar. The technical skills of their bartenders can range from great to mediocre - I've had hardly-sweetened mojitos to am-I-eating-sugar-cubes mojitos. This may have changed as I think some of the staff was moved to the Southcenter restaurant since I've seen some of them at that location. Hopefully, they've gotten better in mixology.

Happened upon happy hour here on a weekday night. Nice and quiet, even in the bar, and service was prompt and friendly. My father got the Northwest crab bourbon chowder. I didn't taste it, but from where I sat, it looked gluey, and he definitely was not a fan. I got a half caesar salad which was wilted. The crab dip and sourdough bread made up for our sub par appetizers, as did the yummy drinks i.e. grapefruit something or other, and strawberry lemondrop. I imagine this place gets really loud on the weekends, so I'll probably only venture here early in the week to try some of the other options.

Duke's is great. I love the Kent station location. Usually have a great atmosphere. It can get really busy on Fridays, but it's worth the wait. The blueberry lemon drop is fantastic. I love the classic chowder. This is the best happy hour in town. They have a special menu for happy hour and the and expensive drinks are 5 dollars. The L shaped resturant and bar is very tastefully decorated. This is a great location to visit before catching the train on game day, or watching the game in a fun atmosphere. The servers and bartenders are fast and friendly. One of my favorites for any occasion.

I really really like Dukes, this would be 5 stars if it wasn't for the boring setting. I gave the one in Tacoma a 5 star for this reason. Anyway I've been there many times, and to me this is one of the best, simple but tasty seafood place, i like it better that some other more pretentious restaurants such as Anthony's, and it's almost as satisfying as Salty's for much less. The seafood here is always fresh and tasty, and reliably. My favorite food there are their Tacos(both kinds) and their chowders (they are all good, especially the Classic and the Lobster ones). But just about everything is good there, my only slight disappointment was the fish and ships. They also have a good selection of drinks. The staff is usually quick and efficient as well. Both my wife and I like this restaurant a lot when we want good seafood without breaking the bank.

  • Jennifer K.

We've been "regulars" at Duke's since it first opened, and I have never had an unpleasant experience. The waitstaff has always been accomodating and friendly, the service exceptional, and the seafood top-notch. I can't speak for the non-seafood items (I wouldn't come to Duke's if I was wanting a burger anyway,) but every chowder and fish dish we've tried has been delicious. I'm also a big fan of their email club, which sends coupons out so frequently that we rarely pay full menu price for any of our meals.

  • Oscar B.

Young man, I ain't made of money, so when I plan on dropping $15 for my meal I expect it to feel rather special. I got the soup-salad-pasta combo, and I must say that their classic clam chowder is definitely tasty enough to found a restaurant around. But on the other hand, the non-chowder foods weren't really mind blowing, and service kind of sucked. By the time we wanted our check, our waiter seemed to have developed an allergic reaction to our table. By the time we asked our third Duke's staff-member to find our waitress, I literally had to flag her down with a cry of "somebody help us!!!" Waiter, waiter, everywhere, but not a bill to sign... So if I return to the area, perhaps if I'm desperately craving chowder I'll stop by. But otherwise, there's nothing so inspiring here at Duke's that it would keep me from trying other restaurants around the mall.

  • Viv M.

A nice surprise for a mall restaurant. Clam Chowder is relatively light-bodied, but is flavorful and fresh tasting - herbal overtones - not bacony. Breading on the fish and chips is on the heavy side. Pan grilled salmon had a sweet, but tasty glaze. Crust on berry pie was gummy, not flaky. Nice selection of local wines at reasonable prices.

GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE! I just ordered the Seafood Chop Chop for takeout. When I returned to my office across the street, I noticed that they had forgotten the dressing. When I called the restaurant to let them know, the girl who answered the phone immediately offered to bring me the dressing. Ten minutes later I was enjoying my salad with dressing in my office and telling all of my coworkers about the excellent service I received.

Used to haunt the Rainier Square Dukes for after work drinks and chowder. I sure do miss that place. Haven't been to a Dukes since it closed years ago. So, I was excited to find this one in Kent. Well... I was shocked at the price of a cup of chowder. So shocked that, no matter how I tried, I just could not enjoy it. That, plus the fact it was only barely warm, tasted thick, unpleasantly flour-ish and heavy on the basil. The sourdough bread is still yummy, warm and filling. They were a bit stingy though (given the price - have I beat that drum enough?) giving two of us only a half loaf with no refills. The seating is nice and clean, the beer is great, our server was attentive and pleasant. If that's enough for you to spend a fortune on a small cup of chowder - I say go, have fun.

Friday night it's busy. OK. Service is sluggish but I suppose that is understandable. I got Fish n Chips kid got the kid burger and fries. The cod is a little overcooked for my taste but the fries are awesome, crispy and tasty outside and fluffy inside. Had a taste of the burger and found it tasteless, in need of salt and I didn't really like the bun it was on, soft but heavy and dry. Originally wanted to go to Ram but they had a wait and we walked right in here

Thank god for Dukes! Without Dukes I would be stuck working in Kent with no good options for lunch. The food is always good and the chowder is to die for. Service at this Dukes is good and the location is new so the restaurant is in nice shape. Everything looks clean and well maintained. Its a great option if your stuck in Kent....

as I've said I'm my other reviews....i rate on mojitos. and their mojitos have too much sweet...LAY OFF THE SWEET AND SOUR OR TRIPLE SEC!!! any way. their pasta was under-cooked....the chicken wasabi quesidillas were sweet and awkward....the chowder was DEVINE...but why does it cost 6.99 a cup!?! its not even a full cup! its like half a cup. half a meal for 2 with 2 drinks each was $73....the place tricks you with their appearance by looking casual and cheap.....and THEN you get the bill...and its like...for what....?!? soireeeventsco.com

We ate lunch here without reading any reviews. First, I would call the chowder more of an herb soup. If you don't try to pass it off as a "chowder", it's not bad. What was good was the shrimp appetizer. Large prawns on top of super garlicky, buttery toast. That I would eat again. The fish and chips were decent. I did see a soft shell crab sandwich go by and wished I had ordered that. The place gets fairly busy at lunch so we were happy to have beat the rush. Service was good

I LOVE DUUUKES! probably the best part of being a newbie to Washington. I started to like Seafood because of this place. awesome. The Calamari Strips are amazing! And the stuffed Halibut, WOWZERZ. the rice is also quite interesting, little tasty berries, aw man! hooray for DUKES.

I have been to Dukes more times then I wish. I have never had a decent meal there yet and would not recommend it to anyone. Not just the food is bad but it is way over priced and the service is lousy. Nothing good to say about this place and won't be back Archie Kennedy University Place,Wa.

My first meal in Seattle this trip was at Duke's Chowder House in Kent. It was a little pricey but well worth it. The clam chowder was outstanding...I'm generally not a chowder fan. The stuffed Atlantic Salmon was incredible as were the beans and potatoes. I since learned that there are 5 locations in and around Seattle. Casual atmosphere, top notch food.

I continue to love Duke's Chowderhouse, but I'm not as big of a fan of this particular location as I once was. I've been to the one by the water and for the price you pay, I'd much rather have a view of the water. We went on Christmas Eve when we were in the area seeing a movie and the food was okay but it tends to get a bit pricy. I'm still giving it a four-star because they didn't do anything - Their food was still good, it was good service - I'd just rather spend $50 somewhere else.

Summary: Fresh wild seafood, 100% grass fed beef burgers, pretty good happy hour, chilly service, cane sugar based sodas from Seattle Soda Co., get the lobster chowder over the clam chowder (if you like lobster). I'll preface this to say I like the Duke's Chowder House in Tukwila a lot better. The service is great, the food is good, and it's always prompt. For Kent, I'll start with the good parts: Their seafood is sustainably caught, the sodas have cane sugar, and I love their strawberry lemonades. I liked the lobster chowder. If I were to order one of their clam chowders, I would definitely get the lobster one again. I wasn't very excited about the Cioppino, but it was a pretty large portion and I was able to split it. My husband liked his burger -- he is very particular about his meat. We always order the calamari which has always been a very big hit with my daughter. For the bad: I don't know why, but we've had the same waitress twice and both times she's been... chilly. The first time, I thought that the waitress was having a bad day. So when she was a little short and unhelpful with us, I was forgiving. The second time, maybe it was a bad day again... but she was pretty friendly to my husband. In fact, she directed all questions to my husband and seemed frustrated when I tried to talk to her. The restaurant has good food, but I expect more when I'm paying more than $10 an entree. When it's a pseudo fine dining restaurant, I expect more effort, better service, and for the waitress to not treat me like I'm interrupting her when I'm ordering, asking questions about the menu, or requesting more water.

My bf and I wanted a quick snack after watching a movie across the way, so we decided to pop in for happy hour (3-6 PM and 9-close). We weren't super hungry, so we shared the chicken strips and a bowl of clam chowder. He also ordered the monkey shoulder whiskey. I didn't expect the chicken strips to be anything spectacular...I mean, it IS a seafood restaurant. It came with a side of jojos (which were really tasty) and coleslaw. We both enjoyed the clam chowder, minus the fact that it was lukewarm upon arrival and found bits of sand in it. The complimentary sourdough is great dipped in the chowder! While we were looking over our bill, we noticed that we were charged $8.50 for the whiskey when it should've been $4.90 off of the HH menu. We mentioned it to our server (who I think was the manager) and he was really apologetic and had it taken off immediately. No biggie, just something to watch out for! Aside from that, I was impressed with the service we received. It's a little pricey, so I'd recommend coming during HH. I may be back, but preferably to the Southcenter location where I've had a better experience.

Dukes always delivers in friendly service, eye and taste-appealing food, and amazing drinks and appetizers. I've been about 5 times this year and have had fish tacos, salmon, chowder, fish soup, the avocado salad, and more. My favorite drink there is the Tito's Moscow Mule in the copper mug - always refreshing! One companion wanted dessert so we dove into the Marion Berry pie ... O.M.G. it was heaven!

Enjoyed my first visit here. Happy hour prices were fair and a plentiful happy hour menu. I had the calamari steak strips & some grilled shrimp Cabo Wabo I believe it was called. Calamari was awesome! Nice portion, big, tender strips & cooked perfectly. The dipping sauces were very good to accompany the dish. The shrimp was pretty good as well. Very light but well balanced flavors. I'll be back. Service was great, efficient. Was able to grab a table on their patio on a sunny Seattle afternoon.

It took me a while to look through all the menu items. I finally decided on the Cioppino and it was delicious. It had salmon, halibut, cod, crab, mussels and shrimp; served with grilled bread. This seafood stew was rich and flavorful. There are many items on the menu where you can choose a full size or a smaller size order. The 'dingy' is the perfect size to try one of their chowders. The service is friendly. There are TVs in the dining room but they are small and high up. There's lots of natural light from all the windows.

We stopped here before seeing a movie and had a blast with Ryan and Jereko. Great customer service and they have grass fed meat!! We will definitely be going back!!

Outstanding dinner selection. Had the coconut prawns for appetizer. Than split the filet mignon salad. Excellent taste. We will definitely be back again.

The food here was very underwhelming. I was on vacation, visiting Seattle & had to try as much seafood as I could. I was craving chowder and tried the sampler (dinghy). Got the clam chowder, lobster chowder and the seafood chowder. The clam chowder was very creamy - almost a little too buttery, but still very good. However, can't say the same about the lobster or the seafood chowder. The lobster chowder was very salty and had a strange sour taste. The seafood chowder shouldn't be called chowder. It was very liquidy and very tomato-y.

When I'm at Duke's, I usually get their fish tacos. This night, I wanted to try something different. I was enticed by the Thai Ginger Halibut, but when I saw the price tag, I dropped my desire. Instead, I went for my seafood go-to... fish and chips. Unfortunately, I was completely underwhelmed by the fish and jealous of my bf's choice... he got the halibut I was dreaming about. And... like he often does... saved me from my own culinary demise and gave me the last half of his entree. Also, who knew I'd like pickled asparagus? The bloody mary was nice and refreshing. And nothing says refreshing like cold tomato juice. No? Ok. That's just me, I suppose. Sourdough bread was perfection, just as I was expecting. Going forward, I may need to rethink my "go-tos." Because I won't go to the fish and chips here. THAT HALIBUT, THOUGH. Be careful when you throw your head back (and to the side) and laugh... the seats have sides. And the wood is pretty sturdy. Ouch.

Upon walking in here, I should've known the service was going to be subpar. 3 hostesses were standing at the front desk, looked up at up, and continued talking to each other. You know your greeting skills suck when the customer is the one who has to say hello first and tell you how many people they need a table for. The service did not improve once we got to our table. The waitress walked by us several times before giving us water. When we finally got water, she asked if we were ready to order. She didn't offer to give us the full menus (we were in the bar) or tells us if any specials were going on, if it was HH, etc. I had to put my coke on the edge of the table several times to give her a hint that I needed a refill. She wasn't the best at checking on us. After we finished our food, they slowly took away our plates and saw us waiting. She kept quickly making eye contact, but then would never walk over to us. HELLO??? It's been 30 minutes! No exaggeration either. 30 damn minutes after they cleared our plates is when they finally brought us our check. They didn't make waving them down any easier either. It was one girl (our waitress) and another guy, but some how neither of them could be found in that small bar area. Errr.. The food wasn't anything I would go back for. Cold clam strips and calamari, along with lukewarm chowder. Ehhh.. No thanks. Won't be back!

We really enjoy eating at Dukes. We've visited the Kent Station and Tukwila locations many times. The food is great and has a lot of distinct and flavorful flavors, haha. The only thing that keeps us from going there more is it's a bit pricy. Two people can easily spend $50+. They do have a nice happy hour menu and if you go then it's not bad.

Prices kind of spendy. If you like spending 16.90 for 2 pieces of cod this is the place for you

Dukes is a great place for restaurant style seafood. It is kind of pricey and I think their portions should be bigger for the price you pay, but their food is yummy. My only critique would be their calamari appetizer is really mushy. Which for a seafood establishment especially is pretty sad. But their chowder is absolutely amazing. Heck, I could just go their for lunch and order a bread bowl of chowder! As far as apps go I would definitely recommend the coco loco prawns. A seafood place can't be a good seafood place unless it serves awesome fish and chips, Duke's passes that test for sure! You also can never go wrong with their crab cakes. If you are out with the fam and one of your family members does not like seafood but loves burgers, Duke's has some decent burgers as well.

Went here today at 3:30pm for Father's Day so I made reservations online which was an awesome option! To my surprise it wasn't busy at all when I arrived at 3:20. When my Dad/Wife/Brother arrived we were seated immediately. Our service was excellent, and food was beyond amazing!

We came to the Kent location after having a nice experience at the Southcenter location the night before. We all ordered a Large Bowl of the Lobster Chowder. The night before I got a small chowder. The large was almost double in price, but the amount seemed the same....? I don't know. Anyway, it was tasty. I like the lobster the best out of all the chowders. Our server here was great. Really nice, efficient. The restaurant was busy. We came at peak time on Saturday night. We waited about 20 minutes for a table. Once sat, we didn't wait long. I mean, we just had soup. The only thing I don't like about this location is it feels crampy, tables are really close, no space in between tables. Very loud. Overall a nice experience.

I would put two and a half stars if I was able. I walked in here with my boyfriend and brother, hoping for a good lunch. First of all, the host was very quiet and didn't seem too interested in us coming to dine in. The server was much better, and very attentive, but didn't exactly leave an impression. The food was not what I was hoping. The sourdough bread was soft on the inside and had a crunchy crust. It was decent. I ordered the cod fish and chips combo with the clam chowder. The fish was flavorless. They relied purely on the breading which wasn't that great. The only good thing about it was that it wasn't greasy. The coleslaw is different, so if you're looking for something traditional, don't come here. The clam chowder was good, but I don't really see it winning any awards. I've had better out of a can. The best part about this meal was the fries. I definitely won't be back, as I don't think it's worth 20 bucks per plate for fish and chips. Ivars has my business for now.

I'm a couple days late on this review but I took my kids here this past Wednesday. It was my first time and I have to say, it's my new favorite. I love that they don't use coke or Pepsi products due to the high fructose corn syrup. My daughter didn't really like the clam chowder (one of her usual favs) due to the amount of pepper. I thought it was good, but they could tone it down a bit on pepper. I ordered 2 fish tacos, expecting them to be small, but they surprised me. They were huge and I was only able to finish one before I wasn't able to eat anymore. The sourdough bread is an awesome touch. Service was a bit slow but we went around 6 so it was busy so I didn't dock any points for that. Kids lemonade was freshed squeezed and you could tell it wasn't from a bottle, very good. Over all this place is awesome especially if you're looking to eat healthy. If you're in a tight budget I wouldn't recommend it as most plates are 15 and above but that wasn't a big deal at the time for me. Won't be able to eat here every weekend due the the price but hey you get what you pay for :-)

Great service and also friendly employees too. My first time to visit here and I felt like home because the way they treated you as a special guest and I liked that. That's why I give them 5 stars because they are really good. To be honest, I love their dukes winning award chowder that I ordered here awesome. Also they will give a recipe how they do the food. :) good stuffs huh. I'll come back again with my family.

First time visiting Seattle in 14 yrs so didn't know where to have dinner. Was staying in Kent and didn't want to venture far so asked for a recommendation. Wanted seafood and was pleasantly surprised! Sampled the Champ chowder and North by Northwest chowder. Both were very good but I preferred the creamy Champ! For the main course I had a special, Dreamy Avocado Salmon. It was simply amazing. The sauce was awesome and the salmon light and flaky! Topped everything off with the carrot cake, wow! Was floored when they told me it was gluten free! Definitely would go back!

To summarize: a bit spendy, but worthy flavors. The Chipotle Salmon Sandwich, Duchess Combo (awesome Rosemary bread) and Sweet Potato Fries were all legit. Great family dinner on a Friday night, reservation recommended. Seven of us met up and Jessilyn provided top-notch service including an apple sauce for the baby. We'll be back for great food and service.

Met some friends here for dinner on a Friday evening. Duke's has historically been a good solid place for some decent seafood. Well done Manhattan started off the evening. The main course of Crabby Peppered Salmon was tasty, but the chef used way too much salt on the veggies, that alone knocked the review down a star.

Not worth the $$$ (overrated!!) Reviews of Dukes say great bread and cocktails at happy hour, what about your food? First thing you will notice is the smell from the bar. Not cleaned properly, moldy smell from not being wiped down, mats not cleaned at end of day and try a light scrub on cement floor with a little bleach to eliminate the foul stench. Second is, this is "famous" for chowder? Served room temperature, bland, and very small portion for the high price. Third is the fish, I had the cod,it was dry, flavorless and once again not served hot!! The cook in the back probably fried the fish with the appetizers and then sat until service. I've been going to Dukes up on green lake since the 90s, and has always been great, the all around lack of commitment from staff(cooks) makes this place not worth the $$. Read the other reviews and make different plans. For 1/2 the price, head up the hill to Ivars, not the same atmosphere but it won't stink like a nightclub and you will get hot quality food and still have an extra $100 dollars in your pocket.

Wow, I wish I had come on a day some of these other reviewers came. Our food was terrible. My daughter and I came in for Mother's Day. We don't get to go out for a nice meal very often on a single mom income so we were really excited. We ordered the Cabo Wabo shrimp for the appetizer. The shrimp was cooked very good, it was probably the best part of the entire meal. The "Avocado Salad" it came with, was more of an extremely chunky, flavorless guacamole. The sampler of clam chowder, absolutely awful. I've had better out of a can. It was too salty, had the tiniest pieces of whatever that was in there, and other than the salt and the dehydrated parsley on top of it, no other flavors. Main course came out. We ordered the "oh so blueberry & goat Cheese wild salmon". The salmon was so dry it had absolutely no flavor to it. Usually, when I cook salmon at home, I touch it with a fork and it's falling apart, glistening inside (and out) and tastes like salmon. This salmon had the taste of overcooked chicken, and had no moisture showing inside or out. If it didn't have the goat cheese and blueberries, it would have been even worse. I wouldn't have fed my cats that fish. The asparagus on the plate was barely cooked, I was embarrassed for whoever "cooked" it. The best thing about the entire dish, the roasted potatoes. They were amazing. Honestly, that was the only enjoyable part of the entire meal. For $50, I expected the food to be a whole lot better. Next time I want salmon cooked halfway decent for half the price, I'll walk over to the Ram. I've been a cook in restaurants and at a country club for many years. This was an embarrassment. Might want to rethink who you have cooking on the holidays, obviously whomever was cooking was in over their head. And it wasn't even that busy. (still, we sat in there for over an hour and a half for a shared meal)

Just went here for lunch, food was good, as usual, but service was absolutely terrible!!! Our waiter was the man bun/beard combo guy, which I should have held against him in general, but I didn't on this occasion. He started out ok during the meal but as we started to wind down he became absolutely obnoxious! We were meeting with one of my dad's old co workers whom I haven't seen in almost 9 years, and of course we were busily chatting away. This would have been a happy reunion, had we not been interrupted by him asking if we were done with our food multiple times. He kept checking back with us every two minutes, no exaggeration, he was on the two minute mark every time. I get it, it's lunch time and you're trying to keep your turn over going, but an hour long lunch seems pretty standard to me. Apparently I was wrong because we hit the 45 minute mark and this guy was looming over us like a full moon over a werewolf! He asked our friend 3 times if she was finished when clearly there was food still on her plate that she was eating. So so so incredibly rude!!

Large portions of tasty and comforting, if a bit salty, seafood dishes. There's a large, extensive menu for lunch and dinner and, for the best deals, a great happy hour menu where you can stuff yourself silly at bargain prices. This particular outlet seems a bit small for its location, and can fill up fast when the mall gets busy or when there is an event at the arena across the street. Service is courteous and attentive despite this. Not a bad choice if you're in the area and want some good, filling comfort food after shopping or before an arena event.

Decent food but IMHO over-priced. $30 for fish n chips & drink for lunch (casual, not even upscale joint). Need I say more? Their salads are a little too heavily dressed for my liking. What's good is their famous clam chowder. Other items on the menu include the standard fish n chips, fish tacos, salads, etc. During the warmer months they have patio seating. Kid friendly since they have crayons and kid menus available. Nice addition to the Kent area. The shopping complex (outdoor shops) is a knock off of the University Village in Seattle. Close to the court house for those on jury duty looking to kill time during lunch.

Duke's truly does have the best happy hour in Kent. The bowl of NE Clam Chowder was awesome and spiced with the right amount of herbs. The sourdough bread was very fresh and went perfect with the chowder. The calamari was good and came with two dipping sauces. The service was outstanding. I think I got my food in under five minutes, and was offered more sourdough bread after I finished the first piece. There's a few TVs to watch sports, and the inside had a nice nautical theme. I'll be back for sure.

Great healthy food with several organic options! Nice Happy Hour times and prices! Tonight, Kathy was our server and she was spot on with filling our water glasses, menu suggestions and the offer of extra sauces, second basket of bread and overall friendliness, but not pushy. I love their organic salad with the addition of grapefruit and orange slices plus pecans! Tonight, I added the side dish or calamari on top of the salad and it was a lot of food! Sitting out on the patio at Kent Station location and enjoying the warm weather! What's not to love! We are lucky to live close enough to Duke's to make it a regular thing! Yea!

For fresh, well prepared, sustainable seafood this is your destination in the Kent/Auburn area. Nice rotating wine selection that matches well with the delicious food. The chowders are excellent (try the pernot lobster), and the crab "un-cakes" are delicious. Seasonal offerings depending on what's available; this month they have had some weathervane scallops that are small but extremely tasty. My new favorite may be the blackened cod tacos. Service is really first-rate. The staff is knowledgeable about the food and preparations, and make recommendations when asked. Ask for Scott in the evenings, and if you are having lunch during the week Rebecca is great.

I ordered something that wasn't on the menu...eating clean. So I asked for a 5oz poached salmon, it came grilled. I asked for steam asparagus, I got 5 spears and my bill was $27, not including tax and tip. I will NEVER ever come back.

Honestly I'm a bit torn as to whether I should give Duke's a 2 or a 3. If halves were an option, I would give them a 2.5. Since it isn't an option, and given that the food was actually pretty decent, I rounded up to 3. As I said, the food was pretty good, but way overpriced. I feel that each entree is probably $5 more than it should be given the quality and ambience (since in the end it just feels like a big impersonal chain restaurant - which, I admit, it is). We ordered the crab dip and two dinghies (sp?) of chowder. As an aside, I need to comment that I was superbly pleased that they offer a sample size for the chowders. While perusing the menu (we were both starving) and wanting everything, I said to my beau that really, I just wanted two spoons of chowder, just to satisfy the craving and VOILÁ, the chowder dinghy option magically appeared on the menu. So, we picked the famous option and the whiskey/corn offering. The latter was meh - too sweet for me liking. Their famous chowder is pretty darn tasty. The crab dip was even better, though the bread they served it with didn't pair well, in my opinion, because it was too tough to fight through and took away from the magnificence of the dip. For main courses, he had the cod fish and chips and I the rockfish tacos. We didn't have a sense of portion size so opted for three cod pieces and two tacos. It ended up being way too much, as the taco and cod pieces were very large. The chips of the fish and chips were in reality - Surprise! - jojos, and were very tasty. Well seasoned and nicely crisp. The fish wasn't good. I did not enjoy the breading, which was too hard and reminded me of the frozen fish sticks you get at the grocery store. My taco was okay. The fish itself was well prepared but I did not fancy the Thai sweet chili seasoning which sounded promising but just ended up tasting sweet without much more interest. The taco shell was a hardened soft taco shell and was very pleasing. I will grant that their portions are pretty big, but for only half of the dishes being worth it, I still believe that it's overpriced. Maybe happy hour is the best option as others here suggest.

Five Star ratings are about "As scarce as hens' teeth " in my view as a former restaurant owner and manager...But, Ryan, the Sunday night manager at Duke's at Kent Station, brought about an exception that proved the rule. In a little before 9:00 PM Sunday's Happy Hour, Ryan said: Hey, what's a few minutes? Come on in - We'll honor Happy Hour prices...AND, being in for a birthday meal (for which I ordered Fish and Chips), Ryan upgraded me to a chowder-inclusive meal, AND substituted asparagus for French fries at no charge. In the end, a meal, inclusive of all this, AND a cheeseburger with fries and coffee ended up costing less than $25.00, which was discounted to less than $7.50 with my birthday voucher...AND, everything was delicious! You think I'm going to be goin' back AND tellin' my friends & associates to drop in? Like it's said: In a New York minute! So, thanks to Ryan, AND to Duke: You guys ROCK, and that's no small praise from this dude who used to run a little place of his own in the wine country of northern California back in the 1980's.

I believe a big part if our rating was due to the inexperienced waitress, but let me continue and you can decide for yourself. First we asked to sit outside (it was a great day!) and were sat at a table with no umbrella, though there were some empty spots that still had one. We didn't mind until we realized it was HOT waiting in the direct sun. We literally roasted a little. By the time we wanted to move, we had already set up shop and felt like dirtying up two tables was rude. We started with two drinks and a appetizer. The coconut shrimp was DELICIOUS, though for the price 5 prawns seemed skimpy. I ordered an absolutely amazing blueberry lemon drop that I will return only for that. My husband ordered their specialty double barrel whiskey, but was surprised when, unlike the description, it was served neat (read: warm, in a shot glass) instead of with an "Ice ball" and garnish, as advertised on their menu. After quiet a wait, a manager came to take our order, apologizing that our waitress had been busy in the kitchen. Ok, but there was hardly anyone in or out of the restaurant, as it was 230 in the afternoon. I ordered the California burger with chowder instead of fries, my husband took it as it came. After an even LONGER wait, the waitress came with our food. Note in this time frame no one had checked on us or our water/drinks. We asked for more drinks and bread for the soup. Bread was brought out promptly by a different server. The burgers were very good, and cooked to a wonderful medium as asked for. The chowder was AMAZING, and they earned the right to be called a chowder house many times over! About 1/4 through our meal our last drinks where brought to us. I ordered the same and my husband a beer they had on tap. After finishing, we had to get up from the table to find our waitress, who seemed pretty flustered when she realized I was looking for her, and the bill. Honestly the food was very good, but we found the almost $90 tap to not be worth it, even with the drinks. Long story short: amazing cocktails, behind amazing chowder, but If going for a meal, I wouldn't due to the price. I will go for a light meal and drinks only.

I enjoy the chowder sampler or the menu item that contains a cup of chowder (your choice), a salad, and gnocchi. Their fish tacos are pretty good too. Paired with the breads, it is very nice for lunch.

Love that Duke's does a gluten-free menu! Also, I do think they have the best happy hour ever. I usually visit in the daytime, and their service is really excellent. The restaurant is consistently clean and well-kept, and the food is consistent in quality. My favorite is the NW style fish soup, but the fish tacos are also divine!

First time at this Duke's location. Came during happy hour with my family after work. We were able to enjoy the weather since we were seated in their outside dining area. Service is minimal. It's not bad and it's not amazing. Just average. I'll take average over bad service any day. I had a cucumber mojito duketail and it was sooo good. Super refreshing since it was so hot that day and the alcohol wasn't over kill. Perfect balance. I had two and both tasted great. We had the calamari, goat cheese & pesto quesadilla, clam strips, mussels el duque, wild coconut prawns, killer prawns, and the dungeness crab cake. The killer prawns and mussels el duque were the best out of everything. I felt that the calamari and clam strips were soggy. The quesadilla was good, but it would have been better if they used less goat cheese. The only thing that I really disliked about my visit here was when we ordered another dish of mussels. When they arrived, I took one and as I was about to eat it.. I noticed there was a bug in my mussel. Ok, GROSS.. I don't need extra protein like that. Anyway, I'm sure it wasn't because the kitchen was dirty. It was a sunny and hot day, bugs are flying everywhere when the sun's out, and it could have flew in the dish as it was headed to our table. I'm pretty understanding to these things. What I didn't like is that when I told our waitress about it.. she was like no, I don't think so.. she tried to say it was a herb. Excuse me? I'm NOT that kind of customer. I don't need to lie about having bugs in my food to get a free meal. Super annoying. After she took off her damn sunglasses and saw it WAS a bug and NOT a herb, she took the dish back and we got a new one. Seriously, that was super annoying. Anyway, other than that.. it's not a bad place for HH. It's not my favorite, but it'll do the trick when you're hungry and want a good cocktail.

Kinda slow on the service, though it could have just been the waitress. But there weren't many people there when I went. Maybe she was new... Decent food though. Bread is good. Tasty clam chowder, and fish Mmmmmmm

Ate lunch there today. Had two bowls of chowder, one calimari, and two glasses of water for a quick lunch. The bill with tip was $50.00 way too much for lunch for two, and a bowl of chowder for $12.00 was stupid at best. Noticed all the empty booths and it was obvious why. Dukes is the best sales going for the ram. When we left, the ram was standing room only. Two things will happen with dukes, they will either smarten up and correct their menu, or struggle financially and finally close their doors. Needless to say, we won't be back.

Dukes is a great place to go kind of spendy a little but good salads and soup. Some of thier dinner items are hit or miss. I was with a friend at dinner who had a great meal and mine (which may have been my fault how I ordered it) was just ok. Went back though and had soup and salad for lunch and it hit the spot. Thier lobster chowder is liquid gold. It is quite good. Ceaser salad is good as well. Staff is always very helpful. I still prefer the one over on Alkai but this one for Kent in a mall hey not bad at all.

The food is great that isn't my issue. The employees are the main problem. I was there on Friday the 13th of September with my best friend, my daughter and my new grand daughter. The food was fine. The employees. Dishonest. When we left, there was nobody in the restaurant and there was no on anywhere near where we were. We left, went home, (which is about 20 minutes away) and I instantly noticed that I had left my little black case that I used as my wallet at the table. I called immediately and was treated like I was a nuisance and was told that there was nothing there. It took her two minutes to go look and then she said that she just came to work so she wasn't sure if there was anything turned in. She asked for my number, stated she would look and ask and wanted to know if I wanted to be called if they found it or not. I told her to call me either way. We hung up and I didn't trust that she was looking and went right back up there. Mind you about an hour had gone by since we left. I went back up there and was given the run around and treated like I was a nuisance yet again. The rude guy, that took 5 minutes to stop chatting with his buddies to come and ask me if I could be helped, took my number, never wrote down what I was there for or what the number was for and told me he would get a hold of me if they found it. They also both told me that the bus boy had just left and he would be the one that would have seen the wallet. Well they claim he was called but there was no way he was since nobody was taking any time to look for my wallet. I will never eat at this place every again just because I have never had to ever worry about my wallet, purse or anything being stolen from a restaurant before. The place was no where near busy at all. The only people that were in the area of where we were sitting was the waiter and the bus boy...I am extremely disappointed that Duke's would hire thieves. I know it was the staff that took it. It had all my cash, ID, bank card and everything. Oh and just for reference. Nobody ever called me back to let me know that the wallet wasn't found since from the first time I called and left a message. Hold on to your wallets and anything of value...If you leave it at this Duke's the staff will steal it and you will never see it again.

Went here with some friends a few months ago. Terrible service, terrible and over-priced fish. Food came out wrong and overcooked. Very disappointing. Especially because it was reconmended

Currently making plans to have dinner there on Saturday. I like to make a reservation, so that I can glide right in. The crabcakes are ideal. The wine choices are great. I am a big fan of crab, so a restaurant that crab in many different entrees is always preferred. Service is usually very good, so my experience has been positive each time we dine.

Very attentive server... while ordering. After that, didn't really see her. She was very concerned about my food allergies. Just disappointed in service thereafter. I'm a patient person. Waited more than 15 min for check. Had to get up to find hostess to get our check because who knows how much longer I would have had to wait!?! First time, possibly last time visiting.

I have returned to Duke's but at a different location after becoming rich, a.k.a getting a better paying job haha. My boyfriend and I have become fans of this location! The service here is always great and the food is can I say, 10 times better than the South center location. Let me tell you why. When I first ordered the shrimp stuffed crab plate, I fell in love with the flavors and by the amount of food! Well, at South center I got only 5 stuffed shrimps and at Kent, I got 7 stuffed shrimps!! That's two more! OK, I'm sounding pretty corny right now, but more food+awesome service= Extremely happy Jenny!. My boyfriend always tries something different and I think the only thing that he didn't like was the pasta that they offered there. I tried it and it was no bueno, but of all the plates we have had from there, that was the only "not going to order again" plate. Will come back soon!

$60 for 3 bowls of chowder and a Caesar salad. And waiting 15 minutes or more for our check after we were done. Chowder was good but Ivar's clam chowder is much better & cheaper!

Everything we had here was excellent! We had the chowder sampler, crab stuffed halibut and civiche tostadas. Can't forget the black berry lemon drop that was to die for! Fresh bread and great service too! Hope to come back again one day! Yummm-o!

First visit to Duke's for a weekday lunch...great first impression with warm tasteful nautical decor & many wooden booths perfect for 2. The menu included a large selection of fresh & varied seafood as well as dishes for the landlover. I chose a plate of grilled salmon sliders & a bowl of chowder. Fresh warm sourdough bread was served quickly and was delightful. The 3 sliders were beautifully served with lime basil aioli over the salmon & sliced tomatoes on molasses bread slices. The combination was amazing! My chowder was warm & thick which helped take the chill out of the crisp fall day. I chose a King's Estate Pinot Gris which paired perfectly with my meal. I leisurely enjoyed my meal & left very satisfied. Not a "cheap" lunch, but one that filled me & was delicious. I will return when in the area.

Incredible food, big selection if food and hours on happy hour with the source of all fish listed right there on the menu, most of which is from the northwest. I love their veggie burger, it's quite unique!

I liked this place so much for lunch - I am going back for Happy Hour. It is located in a trendy part of town in an outdoor mall. If you are trying to find this placy you may accidently drive past it. I went to the restaurant with my team. I was able warm my taste buds up with a Tuna Quesadilla for an appetizer. My lunch consisted of a bowl of their chicken - corn chowder (very good) and their open face crabmeat melt sandwich with sweet potato fries. The meal hit the spot.. I was not a big fan of the sweet potato fries. Enjoy!

The food was definitely worth the cost. I ordered the chicken strips and the bleu cheese burger. The atmosphere, music, and waitresses were all great. Will go again.

On our way in on the plane ride (the ALL DAY plane ride) a lady in the seat next to us gave us a few "must go" places. Duke's was one of them . She spoke of their awesome happy hour. We had be up since 4 a.m East coast time so we passed on drinks. We were here for the chowda! We had the lobster pernoud and the crab and whiskey both were soooo delicious. The lobster chowder was rich and savory with a creamy, buttery finish, mmmmm. The crab and whiskey creation had a sharper, slightly edgy taste (probs the whiskey) we also had the crabby patty sandwiches (my homage to sponge bob)) they are served dressed with lettuce and tomato and accompanied by sweet potato fries ! Yessir . Lovely. We will def go back before we leave to get some of their highly touted happy hour offerings But being here, eating well after flying all day our hour here was happy:-) P.S The service here was GREAAAT! Joe did an excellent job and made us feel very welcome

It's just not the same anymore. I use to come here a few years ago for the fish n chips and crab sandwich. It came with sweet potato fries which were delicious. Unfortunately, they got rid of fries and replaced it with crispy potato wedges. I ordered the two piece fish n chips and it was not what I had remembered. It was seriously two fish sticks like the ones you pick up at the freezer. On the plus side, if you like clams, come here for happy hour. It's 3-6 and 9 to close everyday.

You can tell a lot about a seafood restaurant by how much confidence they have in their food to stand alone against the test of taste. Duke's Chowder House does not have that confidence, but does a lot to make up for that lack in quality with great taste. The different chowder offerings, as expected for a 'chowder house', were excellent and well worth a visit to try. Our party managed to order every single chowder offered between us and as spoons crossed the table no one could find anything to complain about. The quality of the fish in their entrees are a bit questionable. In great seafood restaurants they can serve you simply cooked fish and expect to still satisfy the palate with the rich natural taste and quality. Duke's doesn't have that exceptional fish, but does a great job of covering the mediocre quality with some great sauces and sides. Just be sure to get a fork full of both to get the biggest bang because the fish without the sauce is lackluster at best. Service is great. Food is good. Chowder is worth a visit.

My father came to town for a visit. He was exposed to Duke's a couple of years ago and every time he visits he wants to go there for lunch. We went to the Kent Station site for a late lunch on Saturday (12th) and ordered our usual Caesar Salad and chowder. Our server (Heather) was very attentive, personable and efficient. As usual, or order arrived quickly and was just what we wanted! We loved it and will be back again soon!

I know I sound like a broken record. But... HAPPY HOUR. Sad to say the waiter now remembers us... oops. This is one of the best. But here's my little secret: Get the happy hour food, then splurge for a top shelf dirty vodka martini. TO. DIE. FOR. Seriously. Best Martini I've ever had. And that's saying a lot, because well.. let's be honest. I drink a lot of dirty martinis. There is a happy hour dirty martini that's more... normal. Run of the mill. Seriously, spend the few extra bucks you're saving on food and go for it - Grey Goose, Kettle One, even Finlandia. Do it. So good. The better half likes the happy hour cocktails, they are all really good for $5 or $6 bucks. As for the food? Never been disappointed. We usually get some sliders and the clams. Dip the crusty bread from the broth into the broth from the clams. Heaven. I have died and gone to culinary heaven. Go here, eat, be merry.

Came here a few weeks ago and it was delish. First... we were looking for a place around 10 pm on a tuesday, not much to choose from right? WRONG! Duke's was open! We were greeted nicely and handed an array of menus. Who knew they had so many??! Not me. Tyler was our server, he recommended a few items and then brought me the dessert menu, the ONE we were missing. :p We ordered the Mahi Mahi Tacos and Chocolate Chip cookies and Vanilla Ice cream. The Tacos were excellent... a little messy, but good. The cookies just tasted like toll house baked, and the ice cream, was ... well... ice cream. The service was excellent and I was happy they are open late. I plan on coming back, there are more things on this menu I want to try!

The Halibut and chips is very good, not greasy at all. they make a marvelous Mai Tai! Service was very good until it got busy. They have a very big menu. Their chowder is pretty good.

Ok, this is my second time at Duke's... My first experience was disappointing and my review for that visit reflected it. That time I had gone to the Duke's in Southcenter, and I must have caught them on an off day because I was not impressed by the food or the service. We decided we would give Kent Station Duke's a shot. Immediately the service was so welcoming, so attentive and so helpful about the menu. We had a waitress and also this gentleman--really wish I would have got his name, wasn't dressed as a server so a manager I'm guessing--who says he works mostly at the Southcenter location but was at KS tonight. He really made sure our visit was absolutely perfect. He and our waitress were extremely hospitable. Now, for the food... The crab stuffed Alaskan halibut was melt in my mouth delicious--literally it was so flaky and decadent it melted in my mouth. Served with a great side of potatoes and asparagus: this dish is a MUST to try!!! My fiancé had a burger and raved about who perfect the meat was. We tried a sampler of 3 chowders-- My favorite: the northwest seafood chowder. It's a non-cream based chowder filled with chunks of flaky fish and clams and its to die for. I felt like I was in Spain again eating fresh chowder on the water. The Award winning chowder was also great, full of flavor and just a classic. My fiancé had the chicken and corn chowder and kept saying he wanted to order a bowl of it to take home for later (didn't happen because the burger was huge!) Our dinner was topped off with a very thoughtful gesture of the servers bringing out a delicious butterfinger sundae pie for my fiancé's birthday. Overall; it felt like we had tried a whole new restaurant. I'm hoping we just caught Southcenter on a bad day because I can safely say that Duke's food is 5 stars. It really was a great experience this time around and Im thrilled we were invited for a second try. Highly recommend Duke's!

I had the opportunity to eat here. I am from California. I just moved here to Washington and my wife and I ate her it was her suggestion. Let me tell you their Clam Chowder is the best I have ever had. I tell everyone I know about this place. My family is coming to visit in Feb 2014. First place I am taking them is Dukes.

Just Visited Dukes in Kent Station 2 weeks ago. What made this place A-OK was the amazing bar service and uhh-mazing drink specials for happy hour. The food is pretty good too, I would recommend this place for double dates and more relaxed fun dining experiences.

Came in on Saturday January 14th, 2012 around 5 PM - and they even had a weekend happy hour. Place was packed - but we eventually found a seat at the bar. Bartender quickly took our drink order - and brought out some bread. Both the male and female bartender were on top of things. Overall we ordered: crap dip, chicken caesar salad, and a few other appetizers. Well Drinks were $4 and I believe cocktails were around $6. Great spot to hit up if in the area.

This is my favorite spot at Kent Station! Food is really good, service is great and the prices are very fair for fresh seafood. The better than mahi tacos are definitely my favorite item on the menu; they are unlike most fish tacos and a must try!!! Great spot to sit at the bar for a quick lunch and beer.

Came here for our Ladies night out last Saturday to enjoy their Happy Hour. The service was WONDERFUL. The ladies kept checking up on us. The HH menu was very limited. They need to update their web page. The foods were ok. It wasn't bad, but I've had better. The drinks were ok too. I had the Pom Akazi which tasted like lipstick to me. I tried my cousin's strawberry lemon drop and it tasted like bubblegum. I took a sip of my Sis' blueberry lemon drop and it tasted umm, ok. I had 2 rounds of the cucumber martini. It was ok too, it got me buzzed for sure. I'll continue to come back because the service was excellent.

I came here for my birthday lunch because I liked the Happy hour over at the Duke's in the Southcenter Mall. I was expecting higher prices of course so not surprised a small chowder soup, 1/2 soup 1/2 sandwich, 2 drinks was close to $40 sooo be prepared! Start on the good: Service was good. Staff was attentive. I did like the sweet potatoe fries. it was done just right, not too soft and too crispy. salted just right. Sourdough bread was soft and warm. I like when the bread is warm, makes the butter go on smoothly. Ordered the blueberry lemonade. had real blueberries! it was rimmed with sugar which probably didn't need to be because the drink was already sweet as it is. Now if you are diabetic, don't order it, it will shoot your numbers way up! it is that sweet but I considered it a treat. Negatives: Not sure what the "standard" is but all the food was salty, very salty to my taste. the fries were fine but just a dash more would have pushed it over the edge. The lobster chowder was sooooo salty. I had to keep drinking to wash it down. it did have chunks of lobster which was good but omg! do they taste it? the regular chowder was less so had 1/2 crab sandwich. I liked it but would have like it better again if it was less salty. my blood pressure probably shot up few points. anyway it was a birthday lunch so I considered it a treat. probably won't go back too soon. Now I know going to restaurants, they will be saltier, fattier, etc than if I made it myself at home but compared to other restaurants, it was waaaaay overboard. be cautious if you have to watch your salt and sugar, that's all. I think we all know the cost is pricier than normal already.

Our family have visited this restaurant several times - as a fairly large group and they've always been very accomodating. The wait staff are friendly and patient (with small children). A definite go to place for good food at a reasonable price.

I heart Duke's. I think I've been to every location they have in WA (They have 6 I believe). I have a gf who lives nearby in Kent so this location is always good for happy hour on a Fri night. The parking is ample & free and they have a 'shopping' center area which is good for strolling before/after dinner. The wait staff is great and we are somewhat semi-regulars there. Most of the time they are on top of making sure you have enough to eat and drink. They always come around for 'last call' before Happy Hour is over which is always nice. I love their cucumber mojito (my fave by far) and you can't go wrong with the chowder. It truly is the best I've had. Other places try but never can come close to Duke!

Took the kids and hubby here before a movie. Even with a coupon it was still way to expensive for what it was. The chowder was alright. Our waiter was rude and to worried about talking to people at the bar. Food was mediocre (had fish-n-chips and 2 entrees). Probably won't be back - why can't Kent Station have a great restaurant!????

email club coupons and "Duke's Dilemma" pre fix combine to make an affordable meal - really - finally! I totally agree with other reviewers on the cost of the chowder. The new "Duke's Dilemma provides a cup of chowder ( any of them ), appetizer size salad (several to choose from) and about 6 lunch size entrees. Damage - $18.99... email special - buy 1 dinner get one free - SCORE!! After the salad and chowder the smaller entree is actually welcome... we both had fries this time and ended up taking half of each order home. The Caesar salad is tangy and well chilled with Parmesan croutons and an odd slice of tomato... on this visit it was a tasteless mushy slice, but did not affect the overall salad (half point deduction). The cole slaw is an Asian variety with soy and LOTS of sesame oil - if you don't like STRONG sesame beware, but it is in a cup off to the side so the hubby was happy to pass it over and I was tickled to have more :-). The half order of fish and chips was moist on the inside with a crunchy coating. The wedge fries were well seasoned and creamy on the inside. The crabby patty is just larger than a slider, but smaller than a burger. It is fresh picked crab... so fresh mine had a large piece of cartilage running through the patty... the dill tarter sauce compliments the patty seasoning and red pepper pieces. (one star choking hazard deduction) Our beverages were never half empty, but three courses were slammed together way too fast considering we sat 2 hours before close and the bar was packed. (half point deduction) We will go back when the next email special comes and hope that one day the rest of the menu prices will fall back in line.

I'm hoping I eventually have my socks knocked off... but so far, it isn't super great and it isn't super bad either. I've tried the various chowders and a few different dishes (mahi mahi tacos, fish-n-chips, and one of their salads) on a couple of visits and the service is good and attentive without being overly in-your-face, the food arrives promptly and is served at an adequate temperature, the atmosphere is generally good inside and out... this being said, I have not been blown away, nor have I had a horrible experience. Some have commented on it being spendy. At almost $40 for dinner for two, without any booze, it is a little more than going to a take-out place or a Panera, but it is likely in-line with what you'd pay for a casual dining trip to Anthony's or Ray's, perhaps. Parking is free and readily available at Kent Station either in the lot or the garage. This place is a good spot for after movies or before a hockey game at ShoWare nearby, however, there are a considerable number of competitors in the vicinity as well, including Mama Stortini's and others.

Service was slow the times Ive been here. My favorite is the fried calamari. I've tried the original and the lobster chowder and didnt care for either one. The have some awesome looking salads Im looking forward to trying. I am a fan of the drinks they make. Prices are kind of on the high side.

My daughter is a big clam chowder fan. Brought her here to taste a few different types of chowder. She loved the classic and the seafood chowder. I had the mahi taco. It was good. The sauce was a bit overwhelming. The sourbread is great. Comes out nice and warm!

The best chowder I have ever tasted was the Dungeness Crab & Jack Daniel's Whiskey Chowder at Duke's. It's even better than their "Award-Winning Clam Chowder. The entrees are very good, but the aforementioned chowder itself is what makes the trip to Duke's worth it.

    (4)
  • Ryan H.

I had their clam chowder in the bread bowl and thought the taste was very good, but felt that it was over priced for a standard item.

The clam chowder in a bread bowl is seriously worth it. It's good stuff. As for the atmosphere, it was dark in there when I went which is kinda weird for just hanging out with family. Service was okay, the girl was a bit slow at times, which is silly 'cause there were about 10 people in the whole place.
