I love this place! I have been coming here for years and I think this is some of the best Chinese food in the Seattle area. Their Mongolian beef is the best! The service is always good and the food comes out fast and hot..makes excellent left overs!

I was introduced to this restaurant after 5 years of living here by my fiance's aunt. I guess I was too busy going to Chinese restaurants either in China Town or in Kent. Here's my summary, and you'll thank me for it: 1) If you're into real Chinese food, please don't come here. I asked for roasted duck, and the server said, "No, we don't serve the dish here because nobody would order it." I looked around me, and I saw 99.9% White customers. I don't think White people would typically eat roasted duck. 2) Following from #1, yes, the Chinese menu is completely Americanized. My fiance's aunt said, "Well, we are in America, so we gotta follow the American way." *a palm on my face* 3) I ordered pork chowmein, which was ok. I also ordered almond fried chicken. You'll get a kick out of this: chicken nuggets with sprinkled crushed almond seeds and gravy on top. GRAVY on top....... Oh man! How American can it get? :) 4) The reason why I don't go lower than a 3-star is because it IS still better than Panda Express. The portions are very generous, and the prices are affordable. Hence, you are welcome to go to this restaurant if you have really bad Chinese food craving and feel lazy to drive to China Town or wherever.

Found this place on Yelp when we were looking to get some quick chinese food. The restaurant was clean and service was ok. We ordered Mongolian chicken, Sweet n Sour chicken, and General chicken. The mongolian and general chicken was good but the sweet n sour had way too much sauce poured over it. The pieces of chicken lost flavor and the sauce was very over powering and at times tasted too sweet. I think when you cant even taste the chicken itself you have too much sauce on it. We also ordered egg rolls to start with and those were really big but good. Overall the food was ok and not better than your average chinese restaurant.

Will have to write another review after trying other menu items. Tonight was won ton soup and BBQ pork. Soup was tasty. Lovely large order of pork, but was very dry I almost sent it back. Decided to break it into small pieces and throw it in with my soup. The broth did help a bit to soften it up. Seasame seeds and hot mustard, but no ketchup in the house. Usually mix some in with the mustard so it isn't so spicy. There was sweet and sour sauce on the plate with the seeds and mustard. I am just used to having ketchup. And luke warm tea. Wasn't worth my effort to ask for another pot.

Possibly the grossest chinese food I've ever had. All I could taste was grease. The egg rolls were literally hard and the beef and chicken looked old and previously frozen w/freezer burn...yuck!

To this Day I still crave the hot pepper chicken , used to go here for lunch everyday.

Service: OMG terrible. There was a sweet girl waiting on the other tables, yet we were stuck with the most impatient, grouchiest, snobbiest waiter. He talked so fast, cut us off, walked away while replying to our questions... I didn't even know what I had ordered (what was in the cheaper single dinner) because he took the menu away and bustled off before I could ask what was what. Food: A mixed bag. Egg rolls were fine, the pork thingies (are they suppose to be cold?) were whatever. The soup was not good. Hot and sour soup that was slightly green and neither hot, nor sour? Which so much giant tofu that there's barely any actual soup to it? Wonton soup was like water... Just a waste of time there. BUT I give four stars because the entrees, once we got them, were great. Fresh. Big portions. I hate chow mein, but this was so good, I almost ordered an extra plate to go. And the rice! And the sweet and sour pork was so light, and non-greasy. Also, with two of those single dinner orders, complete with plenty of food (whether you like it or not), tea, and soup, it came to about $28 for two.

The best chicken and rice I have ever had!!! Traveled from Seattle and will def always come back here when I visit Portland!!

The service was super friendly. The food tasted like food poisoning. Seriously, skip this place. Especially the shrimp. It tasted like it had turned.

  • Benni S.

We went with the family after a day of gardening and working in the yard and feasted our faces off!!! We had sweet and sour soup, barbecued pork, followed by chicken fried rice, sweet and sour pork, garlic chicken and orange chicken. All were the freshest and best-tasting I have had in a while. I love the dining room there - it's really well decorated and a lot of fun. A great film trip. The only reason I held back a star is that I wish they would have he'd slightly louder dining room music. It was really quiet and I don't want to hear other people's conversations.

The place is clean and so are the bathrooms. The service was good. The food was great. We ordered the number 1 and 2 dinners and they were both yummy and I would eat here again.

We're new to the area from Ravenna where we could go to Chiang's Gourmet for some kick-ass authentic Chinese. Went hoping for somewhat authentic Chinese food. Sadly disappointed. In the future when we crave Chinese we will do one of several things, all if which do not include this restaurant: 1- suck it up and drive to the I District 2- substitute Thai or Pho for Chinese 3- go Americanized Chinese 100% and go see the 'Panda'

People who have seen my reviews know that I am a service whore. I appreciate good service and many times its more important to me than the meal. This place gets 4 stars for the service. I have been here several times and the service is always great. They are quick and attentive. They go out of there way to make you feel at home. I'd give them a perfect score but the fried rice has and always will be terrible. I order it with my lunch because its better than steamed rice but honestly its not good. Their chicken dishes are always nice and their Mongolian beef is one of my favorites in the area. Over all solid 4 stars from this guy.

We used to love eating here, especially for the Mongolian Beef. (it was delicious!) but in the last two years, it's different and definitely not as good. A different cook? The recipes (especially for the once yummy Mongolian Beef) have been changed, and not for the better. Most of the dishes were bland, except for the fried rice which was good. The last time we got the food "to go" and the service was very quick. But...the food was still bland and mediocre. So disappointing. I'm going somewhere else next time.

    (2)
  • Becca C.

The sweet and sour shrimp is to die for. However the rest of it is 'meh.' The cashew chicken didn't seem like it had cooked long enough, the texture wasn't right; and it was bland. Service was very nice and I like the decor with the lanterns and stenciled ceiling. I'd come back for the sweet and sour shrimp.

  • Kelsey M.

I ordered over the phone the Dinner S1. The meal includes your choice of hot and sour soup or wonton soup. I chose the hot and sour. They gave me wonton. You can either get fried rice or white rice. I chose white. They gave me fried. I did get the egg roll and chow mien that was promised. The Dinner S1 also includes sweet and sour pork. Well, my meal didn't...not one single piece. So the only correct thing I got was 2 out of the 5 items. The egg roll, bad. The fried rice, bad. If I didn't live so far from the restaurant I would have taken it back, but instead I wrote this. Think I'll go make a kimchi...

    (1)
  • Leena V.

It's sooo gross!!! Only white people who eat at Panda Express go here, the meat is unidentifiable. I'm pretty sure I ate a rat.

Holly FUDGE the Mongolian Beef!!!! The medium sized, tender, battered & fried, then glazed beef strips are amazing! I can't even began to tell you how amazing your first bite will be! I have tried Mongolian Beef, Spring Rolls, BBQ Pork, Sweet & Sour Chicken, and Yakisoba. They are all bomb.com but you must get Mongolian Beef!! Trust me it'll be the best you have ever had!

Just was not impressed. Got a variety of food to try. The General Tsao's chicken, The egg fried rice, two egg rolls and some chow mien noodles. I was very excited for the feast of food in front of a good movie. But the chicken was rather chewy and rubbery and it tasted very fatty... I was not able to eat it or enjoy it. I tried the rice which was very bland and tried to add soy sauce. It was okay. The chow mein was very slimy and bland and not very good at all. The egg rolls I had hope for but even they were very sub par, soggy and the vegetables were overkill. Everything was very disappointing and the whole order cost around thirty dollars. Totally not worth it. Will not be returning to King Wha.

Good food - we have been coming here for years.

Food is great... But the young waitress is the rudest server my friends and I have ever experienced. Seems to be a consistent problem with this waitress as I've asked about this restaurant to coworkers since I work and live nearby, I've also been told that she may be the owners daughter. Yikes. Maybe keep her in the back doing dishes instead of facing customers if she has an attitude problem.

    (2)
  • George P.

Ordered lunch and asked the waitress how much was the Tsingtao beer....She said $2.75. So I ordered one with lunch and then another after. A total of 2 beers. When I got my check, the owner charged me $3.50 each. When I told her the waitress had said it was $2.75.each, she didn't believe me... We called the waitress over and she "confirmed" it was $2.75 each and that, that is was what she told me. The owner refused to adjust the price and said " i need to get my money back from the waitress". The owner "Lynn" is rude, cheap and all about the money. I will never go there again and encourage others not to... never have treated this way. All over $1.50 unbelievable.....and btw, food wasn't that good! I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! SERVICE is TERRIBLE....

The waitstaff here is smokin' hot. There's a dude and a lady in their 20's and they're both fantastic. I think the guy's name is Jake. He's the best. We tried a lot of things... fried rice soup, potstickers, mandarin tofu (SO good), bbq pork, bbq pork fried rice, and some other chicken dish. We normally don't go to Americanized Chinese food, but this was amazing. Everything tasted super fresh, was cooked perfectly, and was not oily and one flavor like most Americanized Chinese we've had. This place is amazing and we are soon to be regulars.

  • Jessica A.

Watch out for the take out shrimp fried rice! They use jumbo shrimp and it's only at the top. Get to the bottom of the take out box and there's nothing but rice. Boo! And it's kinda bland. They should use the small shrimps. My search for awesome shrimp fried rice continues! But the egg rolls are huge.

Having grown up in an Asian household, I'm a bit picky with my Chinese food. I've also eaten from plenty of Asian restaurants in Seattle's International District, and can tell pretty much when older food is being reheated as is done in some Asian joints. That said, King Wha is one of the best Chinese restaurants in the Seattle area. It blows away a lot of Vancouver/Richmond Chinese places I've been to. FOOD: well-cooked, well-seasoned and delicious! The cooks are very fast. The fried rice is fantastic, and not over-salty. The General Tso's Chicken was great. Portions are very generous for the price. I'm not sure why other reviewers felt the food was "heavy and greasy" - I've never had a bad meal here. SERVICE: friendly and talkative. I always get a smile from the staff and to me, that shows that they enjoy working there. DECOR: it's an older restaurant, so don't expect anything fancy - but the tables and floor are clean and the dining room is often packed for dinner on the weekends. Great Asian comfort food. Highly recommended.

I'm shocked this place has a 4 star rating. Really??? There were 5 of us who ate there and nobody liked the food. So heavy, greasy and must of used a ton of corn starch in the cooking. Everything we ordered (5 dishes) sucked, even dishes that should be lighter like chicken and mixed veggies was heavy. Not again, sorry.

    (1)
  • Allison P.

The General Tso's Chicken was really good. By far my favorite! I could eat it every day! Not spicy enough for me but I added chili sauce and perfect! Bbq pork was good too. Also got pork fried rice which was ok not the best, same with the sweet and sour pork. Very friendly staff but slow service. Will be back for the General Tso's Chicken!!!

I am starting to feel like I can't trust the taste buds of folks in Seattle. This was totally mediocre at best. Seriously disappointing. We tried pork fried rice, chicken chow, Mongolian beef, won ton soup and nothing seem to have any flavor. So bummed. We will keep searching for good Chinese near west Seattle. Likely the problem is that we have been spoiled by the amazing selection of food it native San Francisco but I still think it is reasonable to expect to find true 4 star Chinese here in Seattle.

  • J C.

Best Chinese food in the area, and by area I mean King County. I've had their fried rice, sweet & sour chicken, almond chicken, and sweet & sour pork. All have been excellent. I had take out yesterday and it was ready in less than 10 minutes. I only wish it were closer to where I lived.

    (5)
  • Lance D.

I get dragged here by a co-worked about once every couple months and dred it every time. This is mediocre Chinese food at best. I'm pretty sure they are simply re-heating frozen, prepackaged food.

    (1)
  • Sarah K.

I can't believe this place place doesn't get busier at lunch! For $7.50 including tax you get a HEAPING plate of rice, meat and a cup of soup. I love the orange chicken, sweet & sour chicken and Mongolian beef. Didn't care too much for the hot pepper chicken or the soup that's included. Overall, great value and most dishes are pretty goof.

This used to be our go to place for Chinese food in Burien until we discovered a better option. For plain and highly Americanized Chinese this is a good bet otherwise I don't recommend it. The mu shu pork is decent and we used to also order the hot and sour soup. Recently our new chinese restaurant choice was closed so I ordered from King Wha. The hot and sour soup was disappointing and they really skimped on the shrimp. I won't be going back.

Saw mixed reviews and thought we'd try it for our self's... I like the idea of the family style turn top tables they have, but the restaurant could use a little updating. The waiter was really nice and helpful, cool talking younger guy. The food I wasn't happy with though, we got BBQ pork... usually it comes whitish with pink edges... It was brown in color with dried out edges like they cooked it again, but it was cold. Then when our food came I got Chow Mien and there was no noodles! I guess there were maybe a Tbsp of these crunchy thin short rice noodle looking things berried in the meat.

Tried this place with a couple of people from work during lunch. The place was busy and for the most part the service was pretty quick. The food was a solid B, but opportunity for improvement. I came back with a friend later in the week, because a couple items that I wanted to try, were not on the lunch menu. The Won Ton Soup was pretty good, at least the broth. The Won Ton itself was small and lacked the sausage style flavor that I expect in a wonton. The Beef with Green Onion was good, but could have used so more heat (peppers) as well as a richer sauce. However it was good and the beef tender. The Chow Mein was also good, would have loved some more vegetables like bamboo, been sprouts, celery. From what I recall it was just white and green onion. I also prefer a thinner noodle, but next time I'll ask for Hong Kong Style. What was most disturbing was twofold. 1) we got there just a head of a large group. About 5 minutes to be exact, but for some reason they got faster service and more attention. 2) For a Saturday night, only two teenage females were on the floor. They appeared overwhelmed, especially since only one was taking orders. Overall, I still give these guys a B, but if they can step up the flavor and service, this could be my new mainstay.

I have to say this is probably the best Chinese restaurant you will find in Burien. I have been coming here for years and the food and service has been consistently good. I like the combination dinners as well as the single meal options. My favorites are: hot and sour soup, sizzling rice soup, orange peel beef, cashew chicken, and almond fried chicken.

    (4)
  • Jandi L.

This is the best Chinese I've had in the Seattle area. The General Tso and Mongolian Chicken are killer! Highly highly recommended if you're craving Chinese.

My husband & I have been coming here for lunch for over two years. Today brought that to an end after the rude service from the owner herself! This place is absolutely NOT KID FRIENDLY! we sat down and immediately the lady came to our table, looked at my two year old daughter and rudely yelled at her, "Every time you come here you make mess, don't make mess no more!" I could tell she was very upset so I stood up & told her that its fine we'll eat somewhere else. She then replied, "YES, THANK YOU!" when i told her she was being rude she quickly replied, "NO, YOU BEING RUDE, RESPECT THE FACT THAT MY DAUGHTER CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR MESS!" So i told her i was sorry my two year old doesn't eat accordingly & I'll respect her by never eating there again! The worst customer service ever! Taking my family elsewhere. I hear there's a nice Chinese spot in Des Moines.

  • David T.

Service was the slowest in a Chinese restaurant I've experienced in my life. Prices were fair but the food wasn't all that good. Needs were never anticipated (had to ask for everything then wait forever to get it) and waiter (older guy, the owner maybe) and other staff kept touching dishes by the rims. Like putting down glasses of water while holding it from the top... Eek! My mouth goes there, not your hand! Same with silverware, teacups, etc... nasty.

  • Kjell S.

One can tell upon entering, that this was once a fancy schmancy Chinese restaurant in "downtown Burien" several years ago. It is not like that now, and quite frankly it is a bit outdated. (I hate saying things like that, but I feel it is accurate). But that is why I LOVE THIS PLACE so much (after going there once). The hot and sour soup was just delicious. Simply delicious. I have since stopped drinking water and now drink bottles of soup throughout the day. Question: if chicken tastes excellent, is it always generally tso? Answer: If it's General Tso. In the words of my peculiar and unoriginal 7th grade homeroom teacher: "it rocks my socks".

    (4)
  • Monica S.

The staff was nice. The prices are low. Those about the only good things I have to say about this place. A star for each. The food was massively overcooked - limp veggies and slimy noodles. Ick. The flavor was not there. Usually I relish leftovers, but I barely ate my food at lunch and didn't touch the leftovers. I would guess you might like this place if you grew up eating here or if your mom overcooked everything you ate as a kid. If you are the kind of person who enjoys fresh food and tender-crisp veggies, skip it.

    (2)
  • Kim K.

We go there because there aren't any decent Chinese restaurants in burien, it is passable, service deplorable if you get the male owner or his daughter, best when mom is there, food is so marginal, but best to make the trip to Chinatown if you want good Chinese, btw the owners are not Chinese so cant blame them for not putting out good product

Mongolian Beef For Life! it wasn't quite as good as I remember, I've lived in Phoenix for awhile so I dont frequent King Wha for lunch like I once did, but it was still really good.

  • B G.

The food is great and out the door for $7 during lunch, includes tea and soup.Food is pretty healthy and not drenched in grease.Great condiments too, chili oil for one,my favorite,I could drink this stuff for breakfast.I had the Chicken with Chili Sauce, was very good and the Sweet and Sour Chicken, excellent.Spike the Sweet and Sour Chicken with about 4 tsps of the chili oil, trust me,try it!or have a Chili Oil drinking contest.I'm not serious about the later BTW They now have a really good small grain brown rice that you can sub for white rice costs $1 to sub,I never had brown rice with Chinese before and it was really good, especially this short grain variety they serve.

My first visit to King Wha was about two years ago when I lived in Kent. I was told it had the best Mongolian Beef. I went with three guys and they all ordered the Mongolian Beef. I, however, not being much of a beef fan when it comes to Chinese food, ordered the General Tso's chicken. When the food came out, I was jealous of the boys, they got big plates full of meat with a few veggies. I got a big plate of delicious (but not the best) General Tso's chicken. I have been there a couple other times since then (once was when I went Vegetarian..the Vegetable Chow Mein is okay, but what was I thinking?!) and never ordered the Mongolian Beef. Until tonight. Hard day cooking at work, came home, worked out and got this craving for not-american-food. "Mmmm, tacos from El Rinconsito" I thought. "No wait, italian food!" Neither sounded great and I knew whatever I was going to get, I wanted to get it to go. And then, I remembered King Wha! I phoned in my order, and in 15 minutes my food was done and ready to go. The boys were right, the Mongolian Beef is amazing. Seriously, if you go there or get take out, order it, you will not be disappointed.. I have lived in Burien for over a year, and am only now taking advantage of King Wha. What was I thinking...

  • Ani K. O.

I was super excited when I read the reviews here but i have to say that my meal was mediocre. My Hot and Sour Soup was, well, gelatinous. I've had some amazing hot and sour soup and this was by far not near the halfway decent mark. I had the mongolian beef and I'll admit that was pretty tasty. Now the chow mein, sweet and sour beef and chicken, and bbq pork were not so tasty. oh well. I'll just have to keep trying new places to eat :)

  • Cassie W.

I don't even care that much for Chinese food, but I highly recommend this Burien gem. Their food is inexpensive (especially the lunch specials) and delicious - no other Mongolian Beef will ever live up to the high standards set by King Wha's.

    (5)
  • Gerry B.

Been grazing at King Wha's for almost 30 years. Best chinese and value in the entire Puget Sound. (Especially for lunch). Heavily frequented at lunch by local Boeing, cops and airport folk all of whom are notoriously cheap, which reinforces the value for money credential. The hot and sour soup, hot pepper chicken, chili sauce chicken and mongolian beef just cant be beat.

My boyfriend and I have been eating at a couple of "other" Chinese places in Burien. We used to love Ming Wong back when it WAS Ming Wong..... before it became whatever it's called now. When they changed owners or management or whatever the quality of the food went down hill in a hurry. But we'd occasionally still order from them now and then if we had a taste for Chinese. Somehow we always forgot that King Wha was there. Probably because we'd never tried it. We were on our way across town to go to Happy Garden and decided to stop and give this place a try instead. I am SO GLAD that we did!!! Their food was FRESH and DELICIOUS! Best Chinese food in Burien. Hands down! We had the family meal and substituted a few things (the waitress didn't even bat an eye at the substitutions). We had the diced chicken and cashews which was totally awesome. The Mongolian Beef which was to DELICIOUS! Pork fried rice and the Almond Fried Chicken was to DIE FOR!! There was only one SMALL box of leftovers between the two of us when we were done and ONLY because neither of us could fit in another bite. I WISH WISH WISH they delivered!! We'd probably order every Friday! :D But they're close to the house, so ordering take-out is fine too :) Definitely going back!! Many times over!

Some great American Chinese food. Hot and Sour soup is a must, you might want a large so you can take some home for latter. Favorite entree is Mongolian Beef: not too spicy if you avoid the peppers, very spicy if you dig right in. Food portions are generous, prices are great, nice friendly service.

    (5)
  • Brian P.

I'm not sure what happened to this place. I'm wondering if the old owners sold to someone else. But the usual mongolian beef was replaced by a soggy mess! Extra spicy meant pouring a glop of chili sauce on the beef, so now it only tastes like chili sauce instead of cooking extra peppers in with the beef. Lazy. The order was oily and soggy, what a disappointment. Plus the credit card machine was on the fritz so I had to drive to the bank machine and come back. The lady gave me a discount, but for the product I received, it was still too much. I used to order from here at least once a week for years. This place was ruined for me in one visit.

    (1)
  • Jennene A.

I love the fried rice here! You get a big HUGE serving when you dine in. I go at least 2 x's a week if not more! The service somtimes is slow ...depends how they are feeling I guess. I think they might have 2 different cooks because one time I went and the food was overcooked....but every other time it was excellent...and i am not exagerating!

  • Stephanie K.

I wanted to love this place. I really, really did. I've been here three times, and while I love the Hot & Sour Soup, and think the staff is fantastic, everything else was a total disappointment. First, I tried the much-praised Mongolian Beef and found it to be way too sweet and not at all spicy. The next time, I tried the Hot Pepper Chicken, which only had one noticeable flavor: Salt. It was so bad that I actually had to completely revamp it myself to turn it into an edible dish. Finally, I dragged my husband with me to give it one more try. The Garlic Chicken was neither spicy nor garlicky, and I can make better Beef Chow Mein at home. I wanted to like this place because the people are so nice, but their entrees, in my experience, are just bad. If I ever go here again, it will just be to get some Hot & Sour Soup to-go. But that's the only dish from this place that I can honestly recommend.

I've been to King Wha a number of times and finally figured out what to order - Sweet & Sour Chicken. Seriously, it is the best! I also like that they have the option to get brown rice. The menu overall is hit and miss. Don't do the mixed veggies and add meat - it just tastes like salt. Beef and Broccoli was also a bit odd. Last time we were there, our server was very friendly and attentive. I think this place is getting better, so I'll round up to a generous 4 stars.

Still a big fan of this place, the staff recognizes you on your 2nd visit. I love the atmosphere, its fun to take your family or a table of friends. Its great to see it run by a happy family who work very hard. Im trying different menu items the combos are great, but I found a favorite and stuck with it.

Who knew you could find some fabulous chinese food in the small town of burien. I was craving Chinese (that never happens) and I happened to drive by the place and thought I would give it a try. To be honest...I don't really like chinese food. I am more of a thai girl....but this chinese was kinda crazy...thats how good it was. I am thinking back on all of my chinese food eating experiences...and to be honest...I think this is the best chinese I have ever eaten. I got the Mongolian Chicken It was chocked full of great veggies and had a fabulous sauce. The portions were huge. I also picked up some hot and sour soup (watch out...the smallest one could serve 4). It was all reasonably priced and now I have enough food for like 2 more meals.

The Mongolian Beef is by far the most popular dish, and for good reason. Great lunch prices and quick service. I have been going there with my family for almost 25 years. Hands down, my favorite restaurant.

Wow. I had a completely different experience than EVERY other reviewer. The food: The hot and sour soup was terrible. It tasted more like chicken noodle soup. The worst part? No place in the ingredient list did it say there was going to be seafood in it. There was shrimp! Gee, sure glad I just loath seafood and am not allergic! They do not have kung pao chicken on the menu but the server said that diced chicken with peanuts was the same. Yeeeeaah... I took one bite of the chicken and could go no further with this dish. It was not good. I know I am crazy when it comes to chicken - But my fiance agreed that it was not good meat. The general's chicken was not horrible.. but had a strange flavor to it that we coudn't figure out. The chow mein was really the only thing I ended up eating at all. I hope that everyone else in the world continues to have positive experiences here. I don't wish my experience on anyone. Yuck.

Best Chinese in Burien. Its just good, second time getting take out and is didn't disappoint. I ate the exact same thing I got last time so I will not waste a lot of space talking about the food, but I did have one different dish and that was the cashew chicken. One of the better preparations I have had, fresh celery, water chestnuts and plenty of good chicken. Price was reasonable, 33 dollars after tax for 4 entres. Now I've got left overs. Woot!

So, in an ever continuing quest for decent Chinese food in the Seattle area, a friend brought me here about 3 months ago. Wait, rewind for a year or so. Let me preface by saying that living on Capitol Hill, there seems to be a disappointing lack of good Chinese anywhere around there. I have tried 90% of the places in the I.D. and yes, there are a couple of good ones, but I'm white. I don't want hardcore Chinese food, I want a level of Chinese food that meets the expectations of the authentic, but not so much that I'm choosing between chicken feet or boiled gizzards. This quest has taken my wife and I all over the area, north and now south. Name it, we've tried it. Enter King Wha. At last, the kind of Chinese food place you expect! Ma and Pa owned, been there for years, cheesy decor, James Taylor playing in the background, piles of good quality, reasonably priced, Chinese food! The Pot Stickers are awesome, the Beef with Green Onions - perfect (and it was a massive pile of beef), the Honey Walnut Prawns had just that level of lemon to make them right on par with our expectations. Finally our search for a great place was satisfied. Go there, enjoy dinner and get extra for lunch the next day. I can't wait to hit those take out boxes in a couple of hours.

YUM. Fantastic Chinese food! Homey family kind of place. General's chicken is the way to go.

What a great lunch! Four of us met there and then a fifth stopped by to visit. My partner got the chicken and green beans with brown rice (nice to find brown rice served!), said it was great. I had the King Wha Chicken and have no complaints, it was very good. We were there a long time and they were very good about refiling our water and bringing more tea. Would definately eat there again. even got a got a good fortune in my fortune cooky!

This is THE place for Chinese food. Myself and a couple of guys from work drive all the way from Tacoma for dinner and I'll tell you it is worth the drive. We usually get a few different dishes and share them family style. The name escapes me but I think it's called "assorted fried rice". It is the one with prawns and a couple of other meats. The ambiance is that of a hole in the wall place but who cares? The prices are reasonable, the portions are huge and the quality is awesome! Now if I could talk the owner into opening a location in Tacoma...

Went there for the first time, had chicken fried rice, orange beef and general tsos. The rice was pretty good, better than most but not my favorite by any means. The orange beef lacked any real distinction other than being overly crunchy. The gereral tsos was not good at all. Needs to be a bit sweeter, spicier, tangier and crunchier. Willing to try a few other dishes there due to the rice, but I won't be getting either of those ever again.

I've been going to King Wha for as long as I can remember. You cannot beat the lunch special - 11:00-2:30 Monday-Friday - soup, tea, and a GIANT portion of food for $6.50 after tax. Mongolian beef and chicken are my favorites, but the orange peel chicken and general tso's are also delicious. I could eat a giant bowl of sizzling rice soup every day for the rest of my life. The family that owns King Wha is so nice and hard-working. Go support a wonderful local business!

I grew up on this place. My favorite place to get Chinese in Burien. I have easily dined and ordered out over 50 times from this place.

My family and I have been going here for almost 30 years! Great fresh, non-greasy food prepared in a family restaurant setting. The same woman who taught me how to use chopsticks when I was 5 still works here. It's become a tradition for us to quietly pass on knowledge of King Wha's to close friends and it's love of their food that has kept this hidden gem going for so long.

Not good, not good at all. Although Burien isn't exactly the culinary capital of the world I expected much, much better from this place. We had the egg fried rice (bland although plentiful), beef and broccoli (gummy and extra sweet) and honey walnut prawns (the prawns didn't taste quite right). To be perfectly honest their food is on the level of panda express.

I read the reviews and I heard great food stories about this place. So when we drove by I requested that we try this chinese restaurant. I have lived with 5 chinese and thai women throughout my life. They have always cooked good food for me and they told me that their cooking was better then any restaurant and I believed them. Well, i have not had good chinese food like theirs until tonight. I was very surprised and enjoyed. The only downfall was the soup...it was kinda slimy and funky tasting. I would go there again and again...

I have only had the pleasure of getting into King Wha a couple times but as far as Chinese food in Seattle goes this is it. I don't think you can find a better place and the Mongolian Beef can not be beat.

Wow, what a great place! We had great service, fast and polite. I wanted crispy ginger beef but it wasn't on the menu so we ordered the orange beef with extra ginger. It was fantastic! We also ordered the fried wontons and they were excellent as well. The place was clean as a whistle, easy to find and pleasant. The prices were excellent, some of the best I have seen.

There is one reason I travel to Burien. This is it....King Wha. The Mongolian Beef here is the best in the history of Mongolian Beef--outside Mongolia, I'd imagine. I've ventured away from the Mongolain Beef a couple times, and was pleasantly surprised. But I naturally always return to my spicey, tasty dish of demonically delicious beef time and time again. The decor is totally unassuming. Nothing about walking in (especially the back entrance) screams 'great food'. But that is definitely part of the charm. The table tea is good, the egg flower soup or sour soup are both excellent. It's a can't miss from start to finish. If you duck in here, plan on a weekday lunch. You can walk out the door having gorged yourself on Mongolian Beef, soup and tea for only $6.00--but it's always nice to leave a tip!!! In all honesty, I'd recommend this spot to anyone...including the Chinese Amassador. It's worth a trek from wherever you may live just for the Mongolian Beef alone.

My husband and I went there last night for dinner. He seemed to like it okay, I wasn't that impressed. We have our favorite Chinese restaurant to go to, but were hoping to find a place a bit closer to home. So, looking at the reviews (even though they were all about the Mongolian beef), we thought we would try it. We got the "Family Style" dinner A3 for two. For starters, I have to admit, the won ton soup was pretty good. Next came the BBQ pork and the "add on" egg rolls (at Pleasant Gardens the egg roll comes with the meal). The BBQ pork may have looked more authentic (brown rather than the pink color) but it also had the gristle and fat as well, and a little dry. The egg roll was okay, but I have to admit, compared to Pleasant Gardens, wasn't as good. And the hot mustard was not hot at all, and they gave us about a teaspoon of sesame with it. The rest of the meal, again, was okay - but seemed to lack something. Since I don't do "spicy" well, I ordered some beef chow mein instead of the Mongolian beef. The chow mein was mostly ramen noodles, and hardly any veggies. The rice was good, and my husband liked the Mongolian beef. The cashew chicken was okay as well, but not enough to take to lunch the next day. The sweet & sour prawns were good, but very dry, and drenched in the sauce so much that the outside didn't have any "crisp" left to it. It was more like it had been sitting in the sauce for quite a while rather than just poured on fresh - sorry, but like Pleasant Gardens is. Overall, the place was clean and nicely decorated, but the food just wasn't worth it to me. And, we didn't have drinks other than the tea and water, yet paid about as much there (if not more) as we would have at Pleasant Gardens with drinks. Next time the craving comes for Chinese food, I would much rather make the drive.

My family has been going for over 30 years, so my impression is probably skewed towards the nostalgic... It is a great restaurant with great food. Is it authentic Chinese? Probably not.... It is definitely Americanized Chinese food, but for what it is, it's still awesome.... And even having moved away from the Burien area for years, I still have cravings on occasion for their Hot Pepper Chicken and it never disappoints!

Hit the lunch specials and don't look back. I got the greenbean chick and paid the extra $1 for their fresh fried rice. It was pretty good. They give you a egg flower spicy soup as a starter, and hot tea and water this was all for about $19.00 two meals with tip. The girls were bubbly and friendly and they were concerned I didnt eat all my food, but I always bring half of it home. Always tastes the same garlicy and gingery my favs.

Our parents back in the day used to bring us home take-out from the King Wha Mandarin Chinese Restaurant since they worked across the street and even now we get excited to hear that someone would be stopping by the restaurant to bring home some hot and sour soup or Mongolian beef. To be fair, the hot and sour soup is not traditional Chinese hot and sour soup. The soup has a fair amount of lettuce and peas that are definitely not traditional, but we enjoyed the flavors anyhow since it gives a mild, yet spicy, kick at the end of each spoonful. Also, the Mongolian beef, even though it is a fair amount of food, it is also not prepared in the traditional manner. When one eats Mongolian beef, one would often associate a strong salty or spicy flavor and not one that was fairly sweet. For the sake of visualization, the dish is a traditional Mongolian beef dish with rice on a bed of fried noodles with a drizzle, perhaps a hefty drizzle at that, of honey or other thick sweetener. Although these descriptions may sound a bit questionable, it is definitely worth a try when you are in the area. It has remained a favorite of ours for quite a while and we hope the restaurant is able to stick around in the midst of all the new construction in the area.

It's a decent VERY Americanized Chinese food just as the owner of the restaurant said "We have Americanized Chinese food here!" I much rather drive 15 minutes to ID for much better food for the same or less $.

Nestled in the heart of Burien's sad little downtown area there is an unremarkable Chinese restaurant wedged between other restaurants and bars that leaves no real impression on the memory. With no flashy facade, the restaurant is easy to miss and just as easily dismissed for having typical, greasy Chinese food. Do not fall prey to such thoughts, because you will find no glorified Panda Express dishes here. I don't even like Chinese food, but I really like this place, dang it. King Wha himself, in humble civilian dress, usually does most of the serving when he is not making important executive decisions on his cell phone. Nothing fancy for the interior, but it's clean and has lots of booths and tables and space is not an issue. Standard decorations of dragons and the like. Lot parking is available behind the restaurant where you will sneak through a dirty door to enter the main dining area. My boyfriend introduced my stomach to their yumminess. One day he was hit with a sudden and violent craving for mongolian chicken and drove aimlessly around south Seattle with me as a prisoner in his vehicle until he finally managed to locate this place. Was wasting all that gas and driving around worth it? Yes. Their mongolian chicken? Heaven on a plate, people. Not heaven for the breath, though, so don't plan on kissing anyone afterwards. While the boyfriend loves their spicy seafood soup, I cannot think of a dish we have had here that isn't flavorful or delicious. For a nice surprise, try their hot and sour soup, which when served at your table, will make you go "is this the right soup?!" White with a paste-like consistency, it does not resemble the usual acidic molten lava that you have eaten at other places. It's also more meal than broth as it's thick and full of shrimp and veggies. A truly unusual, but completely welcomed, spin on the classic hot and sour soup. Writing this review makes me hungry.

Some of the best Chinese food I've in the Seattle area. My boyfriend turned me onto this place and I can't help but try to make a trip down there once a month or so for their great food. It's reasonably priced and since they use such fresh ingredients left overs are awesome for a few days afterward.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
