Had the seasonal strawberry rubarb spinach salad,, dungeness crab soup and margarita prawns. All delectable. The service and atmosphere were supreme. We sat outside and enjoyed the ocean breezes, however those seagulls did end our evening. We were told it brings luck, but I still didn't want to finish eating. The drawbacks of outdoor dining, didn't surpass the great food.

I have been here many times, but until last night it had been about a year since we have been here. We have always had great service, and great food, but last night was different. We usually sit in the bar and order of the bar menu, which is a bit smaller proportions from the full menu. The waiter took our order, first Marcia ordered, excited about her hearts of romaine salad. Then I ordered, after I asked for the fish and chips he just walked off, there was no "anything else", or "will that be it". Its almost like something we said made him angry. Never again did we see that waiter. The kitchen staff delivered our food to the table, and just dropped it off. No questions if we needed anything else, or if they had it right. As we sat there eating our food, other wait staff serviced the other tables around us, but our waiter was not to be seen. Nobody from the restaurant even checked in on us once. We we were done eating, I had to actually flag down another waiter and ask him to bring us our bill. Wow, one of last years favorites, to a complete disappointment. We will give it another try one day, and I will update my review if we get better service.

This is one of my husband and I's favorite places to unwind after a long day at work. We usually do bar seating and enjoy the conversations we often have with the bartenders, they are always friendly and recommend new drinks/food items to try! The happy hour is one of the best in bellingham and you can't beat the view, especially at sunset. I'm also highly allergic to peanuts and the staff is always accommodating to my needs, feeling comfortable eating at a restaurant can be difficult but I always feel well taken care of at the Hearthfire.

The Ahi cocktail was AMAZING! All of our food was good and we loved the atmosphere and view but, unfortunately, service fell short:( We sat in the bar at a table during happy hour and it took 15 minutes to be greeted and brought menus. We didn't see anything we wanted on the happy hour menu so another 15 minutes to get dinner menus. After more time goes by, we finally ordered! The kitchen got the food out and it was great! Bartender (he was not our server) delivered most of our food and was very personable...that was a plus! Lastly, instead of having coffee with dessert we enjoyed our 2nd beer which we ordered from our server 20 minutes earlier and that's when it came. I'll be back for that appetizer again...I'll just make sure I sit AT the bar instead of just IN the bar.

Ok here is my update, my first review I took on the 36.00 price tag for a 14 ounce steak and why not at least give us a pound, 2 ounces more for the price. I did receive a reply from Anthony's Hearthfire Grill, thanking me for my review and was told the General Manager would be in contact with me, within a couple weeks I did get contacted. He stated a review group for the menu meet and reviews their menu and it would be addressed. The other night we came back and I wanted to look beyond the fore mentioned and try the chicken and rib combo. I found the value ratio to dinner was very good, my wife had the rib steak, she doesnt get rattled over 2 ounces and she was very happy. Now have to give a great rave over the server that won them the 5th star, his name is Chris. His service was beyond what I have had from servers from any other establishment, he was helpful, when I needed anything he was there taking care of it before I could even ask for it. He did all this without hovering over us. Now I usually never tip over 15.00 this man got a 20 out of me, and I was thinking hope I didnt short him, for a old tight wads like my wife and ok me that says loads about the service from Chris and his helpers. So in a nut shell, your not going into a cheap meat house, and they do everything top notch, thank you Chef for being top in your class, yes its more for me a special occasion type place, but you could also feel you lived another day as being special and this would be a great way to reward that. So in closing, yes still want a pound for my 36.00 but you have so many other things that makes me feel I can live without the steak. But giving the steak its just do, it is great cooked to perfection, yeah I swiped a bite off my wifes plate, and loved it. My wife asked does that 2 ounces really make a difference? I told her yes for her plate, it would give me 2 more ounces to enjoy off your plate

I love this place! I came here with my sis in law while visiting and spent the next two years dreaming of the roasted pear martini. Needless to say the next time we visited I had to visit again and I was not disappointed. They had several seasonal peach items a few of which I enjoyed. I only give them 4 stars because I would've hoped they would offer a few more gluten free friendly options.

Beautiful outside dining area. The crab and corn chowder is amazing! I can't wait to go back for more!
(4)Cheryl S.
Fair, but not up to par with what I've come to expect from Anthony's. My BBQ Prawns were okay...although they were neither prawns nor barbecued. My mom had the crab toast, which should have been properly named as artichoke toast with a minuscule bit of seafood (mostly bay shrimp). The Caesar salad was great (5 stars for the salad) and the wine was not bad. I love Anthony's, but probably won't be back to this one.

Some local friends took us there for Sunday night dinner, and what a nice surprise. The decor is nice, business fancy, wait staff is well trained and polite. Food: - their bread is to die for, hot and crispy out of the oven and already smeared with butter and seasonings. - Sunday night wonderful deal: Surf N Turf for $20!!! It's not a piece of filet, but they chef knows what he's doing so the grilled steak is pretty much done just right for my order (medium rare). The half lobster tale is awesome as well, tender yet cooked through, just enough so you don't get bored. - DH got the thick cut pork chop, and it's moist and juicy inside, just the way pork chops should be... overall a fantastic meal at a very reasonable price. Will come back again, I think the Sunday deal is on the whole winter time.

I came here for a friend's birthday dinner. The view is gorgeous. It's right on the waterfront, and the sunset is clearly visible through the wide, panoramic windows. The kitchen is right by the entrance and you can see the chefs cooking the food, which I thought was pretty cool. It shows that they have nothing to hide. The whole restaurant was clean, and everything seemed new. The server was friendly and professional. Our water glasses were never less than half full, and he gave us the perfect amount of time to pick what we wanted and even gave suggestions. The food was pretty good. Kind of overpriced and didn't have too many choices on the menu.
(4)John R.
The French onion soup takes longer than thirty minutes? It isn't marked as an in a hurry item...oh, and by the way, the entire group has to order thirty minute or less items to get the guarantee. So you are warned! Of course you could come after one o'clock and nobody would care anyway! So order the French onion soup anyway! It is made with a good, hearty beef broth. But, why ask me if I want sugar for the unsweetened ice tea that I ordered? Strikes me as odd. I liked the lightly dressed Caesar's salad but serving it with bacon isn't very traditional but maybe that's a poor substitute for anchovy. And if there were croutons then must have been very small. Overall, nice ambience with a good view. Skip the food and come for drinks?

How I heard of this place: On a recent weekend trip to visit my family, my husband and I really wanted to take my mom out for dinner. We were looking for a place that felt special without being pretentious, a restaurant with good food at reasonable prices and one at which my mom would find enough on the menu to satisfy her elite sense of taste. Type of cuisine: "Offering guests premier Northwest designer beef and fresh Northwest seafood, this high-energy restaurant specializes in hearthfire cooking." "Dedicated to giving our guests a truly Northwest dining experience, Anthony's has earned the reputation for the finest fresh seafood, perfectly prepared and expertly served with an uncompromising commitment to quality and value." Ambiance: "Anthony's Restaurants is a family of twenty two unique restaurants located throughout the Pacific Northwest. Our locally owned company traces its history to 1969 when founder, Budd Gould opened his first restaurant in Bellevue, Washington. As the company grew focusing on waterfront view locations throughout the Puget Sound, a variety of concepts were developed to showcase the best of the Northwest in relaxed dinner houses and casual dining restaurants as well as traditional "to go" Fish N Chip bars." What I ordered: Four of the five of us dining at the Hearthfire on this crisp and sunny afternoon enjoyed the Early Dinner Special: $19.95 for a three-course meal served Monday through Friday until 6:00 p.m. Each three-course dinner includes Hearthfire flatbread, paired with our choice of Fireroasted Tomato Basil Soup, Caesar Salad topped with bacon, or starter; and an entree, three of which were found at our table. Two of us enjoyed the Barbecued Grilled Ocean Prawns sauteed New Orleans style with garlic butter and spices, and served with red potatoes; my mom selected the Alaska Lingcod marinated in white wine and baked with a topping of sour cream, red onion and fresh dill; and the fourth in our party enjoying the Early Dinner special selected the signature Double R Ranch Flank Steak spice rubbed, applewood grilled and finished with a chipotle lime butter, served with cornbread pudding. My husband, ever on the lookout for the best steak, opted for the a la carte 14-ounce, hand-cut Double R Ranch Signature Rib Eye Steak ($36.95) chargrilled and served with crispy onion rings, seasonal vegetable and hearth oven roasted Yukon Gold potatoes. For our desserts, two Key Lime Pies in mini jars and two mini jars of Chocolate Mousse before we called it a night. What I loved: The flatbread. We just could not get enough of it. Oh. My. Gosh. Yum. Why I loved it: Unpretentious setting, friendly server and an array of delicious options for a full, three-course meal. Cost: Average to high ($15 - $36.95 per entree)
(3)Austin G.
A solid 3 star rating. It's right on the water in Bellingham and beautiful. The service was great. The beer list was just average and the food okay. The prices are reasonable. Their tomato bisque soup is good and I loved the shrimp mac and cheese.
(3)Britny O.
Salmon swimmers and ahi nachos for happy hour, accompanied by kulshian IPA. the ahi nachos were AMAZING, I would totally get two orders next time. $7 each for four. I took the salmon swimmers home and decided they were pretty dang good as well. Sadly, compared to the nachos, I didn't like them. BUT I am finding they are quiet tasting now. I love this place. We were a little sad we had to wait over an hour to be seated in the happy hour spot, ended up taking the first avalaible spot instead of waiting for the booth. We were able to get drinks in the wait are but after an hour it got a little tiring. I recommend the ahi nachos to my ahi lovers, u MUST try them!
(4)Lori Jo S.
Their cob salad is a nice salad but a bit pricey. I have been gluten free for 8 years and was very disappointed in their very limited and expensive options on their exclusive gluten free menu. It would be nice if they had modest priced options ($10-$15) for lunch. Later note: the management called me which was very helpful. They asked for my input and truly seemed interested in my needs. I will go back and try this place again.

My husband and I came to Anthony's Hearthfire Grill for my birthday dinner. The restaurant itself was fantastic, and the experience was very good overall. The view of the marina is gorgeous, especially at sundown. The servers were all very polite and attentive. The bartenders seemed to really know what they were doing, and I was impressed with the drink quality. Drinks are muddled in glasses, which is always a good sign, and the pours are large. The food was also very impressive, perfectly cooked and very tasty. The experience was great until I needed to use the women's restroom. It appeared that it hadn't been cleaned in a while. In the bathroom stall most of the toilet seat liners had been torn half way out of the dispenser. There were two empty toilet paper rolls balanced on the dispenser. There was toilet paper and other debris on the floor. The trash bin was overflowing with paper towels on the ground. The customer area was so impeccably clean compared to the bathroom, which makes me wonder if they take equal care of out of sight areas such as the kitchen. It ruined the experience for me, which is why I have to give Anthony's 3 stars.
(3)Ron W.
Arrived here tonight for their early bird special dinner. Food just so so. The worst service I've ever experienced! I think the waiters and waitresses think when you order the special you're not going to tip much so they pretty much forget about you. We won't be back.
(1)Toby K.
Love the Homeport, so I assumed the Hearthfire would be the same quality. We went in for the surf and turf special. Out of the five adults in our group... 4 of our steaks were over cooked, meaning absolutely no pink in the middle. One person complained and received a new steak, the rest of us just ate it anyway, not wanting to be the table who returns everything. The portions at the Homeport are much hardier as well.

My husband & I have been to many Anthony's restaurants, this one shined like all the rest. Great service, delicious food, amazing view. What more could you possibly want. This particular restaurant has a very large outdoor eating area also where you can watch the boats going in & out of the marina. Incredible experience, I hope we get to go back some day.

This review is a pleasure to do. About a year ago I visited this location and had an unfortunate time. But the restaurant did then and now deserve a 2nd review. My experience tonight was a pleasant one. The bartenders were happy and provided great service! The food came out in a timely matter and came as advertised in the menu. I did taste good, however my menu items came out without the use of basic seasoning. (Salt & pepper) Please understand that I don't nessicarly blame them for this, b-ham as a town has a chronic problem with seasoning. Of corse this can be blamed on personal taste buds. But anyone who has done any real travel and appreciates good cooking can come to this town and be extremely underwhelmed by taste. Anyway back to Anthony's the open BOH is a nice thought, but cleanliness and the personality of the cooks needs to be addressed. Hip up everything was spotless. Thought needs to be given to the floor.. Ie trash laying around floorboards. The overall experience tonight was a good one and a far far cry from my last visit. I would recommend this restaurant to a good friend. Anthony's you are on the right track! Keep it up. I look forward to my next visit. Thank you

I'm writing this review about the happy hour here at Anthony's Hearthfire. Similar to the happy hour at its restaurant cousin up the street, the bar here at the Hearthfire features happy hour drinks and appetizers from 3-6:30 p.m. 7 days a week. While the drink options are similar (cocktails and wine all in the $5-6 range, draft beer for $3.50) the appetizers are less seafood-focused than the adjacent location. Here you must try the beef tenderloin tips (with a slight teriyaki taste) for just $5 or any of their other yummy offerings. They also offer the classic Anthony's bar burger as one of their regular options. While the ambiance of this location is not as nice as the other Anthony's, and the small bar fills up quickly, it's still a nice place for an after-work cocktail or pre-dinner date.

Went here my first night in Bellingham. We sat outside which was nice but they lack umbrellas for shade and the sun in my face was a bit harsh. The food was great. I had the Alaskan Halibut with garlic mashed potatoes and sugar snap peas. Amazing meal, probably the best fish I've ever had. It had great flavor and was cooked perfectly. I don't know if I'll ever get back this way but if I do, this will be the first place I eat at. Maybe next time they'll get a few more umbrellas for the patio. It was the only thing I would improve upon. Sitting outside with the view of the marina makes for so e nice atmosphere.

The decor and ambiance was cool. Great view of marina. Cold Brews on frosted stainless steel bar. calamari: squid chips? dry and greasy seafood chowder: tasted like they heated up cream and threw some seafood in there. Not worth it. Sirloin steak n prawns: these were not prawns more like mini shrimps. Sirloin was cooked well and was tasty. It's a toss of the dice when it comes to food but the view is awesome and service was good.

Went here 30 December 14 for a post Christmas meal. My daughter was in from NYC, son from CA, they look forward to eating here, annual family tradition. This time the restaurant was "OUT" of swordfish, ahi, cod, and, drum roll, even chicken ! Yes, 3 out of 4 of our orders were no go, and even second choices were NO ! This was on a Sunday evening, around seven pm, so not past prime dining. Bread was dry, overcooked, meals luke warm. Server tried to be helpful, but he was also tending bar ! Guessing this restaurant is suffering like many in bellingham, financial distress. Way to ruin a holiday meal, and it was an expensive disappointment !

The food is usually good. Had dinner there for the first time on Monday. Surf and Turf but both my wife and I got sick from the lobster.

I decided to come to the Hearthfire on 3-12-2015 for my 30th birthday. (first time there) I wish I would have choose somewhere else. The server was excellent, other then when my friend came late. While she was on the way to the table she passed our server. Instead of pulling up a chair for her and offering her a drink, he told her to go ahead and pull up a chair. Then about 7 minutes later he came to get her drink order. He knew that she was on her way. The flat bread that you have to offer, is plain and disgusting. It tastes like a bland pretzel bread. My husband and friend ordered the fork and knife Caesar salad. I was appalled when it came out, it was 4 leaves of cheap .40$ romaine lettuce with way too much dressing and less then half a strip of bacon. I then ordered the Surf and Turf. It came out with what looked like an overstuffed prawn that was way undercooked and a steak that was not seasoned what so ever. I had to ask for dipping sauce just to eat it. My husband ordered the chicken and ribs. Although the food was ok, he asked for barbeque sauce. He was brought over glorified ketchup, in no way was it barbeque sauce. The chairs and carpet were cheap looking and reminded me of being in a low class aquarium. I feel like they trying to be an upscale restaurant with low end food. I can only give them an A for service and an F for quality of food. I am so disappointed
(2)Shaunita J.
I think I have the right restaurant. I was travelling and stopped in the area... Went here with family for a Friday night dinner. The location can't be beat. It's got such a pretty view. I'm not a big seafood eater, so I am not the best judge of the food, but the fam seemed happy. Someone at the table ordered a corn chowder--that he said was pretty filling. Another person ordered the blue cheese salad that was a pretty good size for the price. Two of us ordered the kobe burger. It came with potatoes. I liked the burger--the meat was fresh and juicy--but, it was almost too juicy. It had some ketchup-like sauce on it that was a little too much and I felt like my hands were covered. I wouldn't order that with it on the burger again. I'd get it on the side. Take note: wear a dark-colored shirt when eating this! Someone else ordered salmon and really liked it. Great décor; lively, but not so noisy that you can't hear yourself talk (although, I almost wish it was, the guy behind me was telling super corny jokes to some girl he was with--it was painful to see that dude bomb on a date).
(4)Chris M.
This place is kinda pricey but it was also delicious. The location is excellent for looking out the windows because there are boats coming and going past all the time. Everybody in my party enjoyed their food and the people who got the seafood bruschetta were raving about it. I recommend it for regular people on special occasions, or for daily meals if you live nearby on a yacht.
(4)Chuck R.
For a chain-run eatery, this place is unexpectedly good. Creative, fresh, and well-prepared seafood entrees. Solid beer selection. Fast and friendly staff. Great place to eat with a harbor view.
(5)Roy M.
We don't have a lot of great options in Bellingham so, for a good meal that you don't mind paying too much for, Hearthfire is alright. It's a beautiful setting and the place is nicely done. So for atmosphere alone it deserves four to five stars. The food is quite good. Again four to five. It's in value where Hearthfire falters. Also, service can vary quite a bit. They seem so focused on hiring young, pretty people for their fashionable place that service may sometimes seem somewhat secondary. Most of the staff are just fine but from time to time one might not get the best wait-person or the most helpful person at the entrance.
(3)Jerry J.
Consistantly good food & service! We dine at the Hearthfire about 6 times a year with another couple. Just came from there from a Valentine's dinner. All four of us had the thick cut pork chop dinner. One of us didn't want the cornbread pudding & pork chop topping (which the other three thought was excellent) & the waiter gladly substituted garlic mashed potatoes. Our dinners were excellent & filling. We all were too full for dessert! One of our favorite restaurants in Bellingham.
(5)Julie J.
We've been here several times. The view is wonderful & cocktails are good. But, the general menu needs to be changed. Same menu for way too long. One thing they did change was their lettuce wedge w/ shrimp. It use to come w/ thousand island dressing and was so good. Now they took away the dressing and half the shrimp, and added blue cheese crumbles, nuts & bacon. Way too dry!! The service has also gotten slower. Much slower! Wait staff are nice and polite, but it's slow, which has to do w/ management. Don't know if we'll be back anytime soon.
(2)Jeff E.
Service was excellent. We had the early bird special and both really enjoyed the meal. Ribs were tender and cooked perfect. Also like the bacon they add to Cesar salads! We will be back.
(4)Jeff M.
I love Anythony's Hearthfire Gill. I love it in the heat of summer, when I get away from work early, stake out a seat in the bar, and order from the happy hour menu. Cheap pints and tasty appetizers are worth the extra effort. But don't be late! Happy Hour in the bar fills up quickly!! I love Anthony's Hearthfire Grill pretty much any other time of year, in the dining room. This building used to house "The Marina" back in my teens...so maybe I have some nostalgia for the good 'ole days, but Anthony's does a very nice job. I like the local flair of the menu, seeming to always feature some local, fruit, fish, or vegetable prepared in a tasty manner. One problem I have had more than once...okay...more than five times, even when window seats are available and I have a reservation, I get stuck in some back table away from the views. For dinner, more than half the reason I come here is for the view during dinner. If you get a table with a good view, particular along the glass, the food is worth the visit.
(4)C A.
Excellent use of the local resources. Berry sauce, berry drinks all compliment the hearth fire food. Really enjoyed this. Not too stuffy. Just the right ambiance and the view is wonderful Excellent service.
(4)Elizabeth D.
Great, great bar happy hour! Pretty good after-work meeting place if you can score a table in the bar. Sometimes it's a fight to get a table in the bar but it is so worth it.
(4)Ted B.
Was a pretty good meal - great view of the boat launch. The inside of the place is nicely decorated, etc., but it can be crowded and noisy. Steaks - the "American Kobe" were definitely not even close to good Kobe. Mine was tough, and I had it medium rare. Flavor was "ok". The wait staff was friendly but our waitress was very impatient. I would skip the place, unless you are close or have been to every other interesting location nearby.
(3)David H.
Dinner was good, but not phenomenal. Prettt typical for Anthony's. I do think they're a bit over rated though. Portions and prices were fairly average for this type of restaurant.
(3)Scott B.
I thought the steak was no better than one you could buy at costco and cook yourself. I was 86 dollars for two people with only one person having one drink. Very pricey in comparison to quality. I'll pay 30 dollars for a steak as long as it tastes great.
(2)Dan N.
Great views of the harbor. Good food especially the rotissiere chicken. Service was very friendly, but a little slow. be sure to park at he underground parking at the Bellweather. Overall, very good experience.
(4)Alison S.
* 4.5 stars * Came here after a long day of shopping with The Boy and a general survey of restaurants that pop up on google maps led us here. We compared the view (but not the menus) of the two Anthony's sitting next to each other and concluded the Hearthfire had more view of the water than the other restaurant. Food: We started with the calamari which was as expected at a restaurant chain...nothing terrible, but nothing that blows your mind. Our entrees fared better. My bf enjoyed his flank steak with berry sauce, and my salmon dish was cooked exactly to my liking...medium! Both of our dishes were accompanied by cornbread pudding, which is kind of like stuffing that you make in a pan. I also tried the berry lemonade which was a bit more berry than lemonade. It looked pretty though! Service was fantastic, our server was always cheerful and friendly, even after five (full) cups precariously perched on her tray fell over onto her. I liked that she didn't freak out. Keep calm and carry on! Overall we were pretty happy with the experience. Pricewise it was comparable (or cheaper) than some other ocean-view restaurants that we've been to in the past, and getting to watch the sunset over the bay had better ambiance than mall food.
(4)Daniel N.
On the waterfront in Bellingham, WA, sits this lovely modern restaurant, a take-off from the well-known Anthonys, with grand views in almost every direction. the atmosphere and views are first class, and since the music is not too loud, it is a great place to meet with people you actually want to have a conversation with. The food is not incredible, but good. The service is excellent. I had a flank steak for 13.95. The steak was not that flavorfull, and the topping of cranberries seemed a bit out of place. The sweet potato fries were great, however. No one had any real complaints but no one went away raving over the food either.
(3)Kyle M.
First I suggest reservations on Friday. We were seated outside, it was beautiful, warm, and a good view of the marina. Appetizer was shrimp cocktail, and caeser salad. The shrimp according to the menu was fresh. It was actually frozen and thawed in water. Very canned small, tasteless and mushy. For 8 bucks I returned it unfinished. The caesar was very tasty, lettuce was fresh and crispy. Individual cuts of garlic bread was very good. I ordered a pale ale local beer and received a dark bitter, it was tasty none the less. Main course was the most expensive on the menu. A 14oz ribeye cut, $35. Served with cut potatoes, and frozen green beans, several of which were brown and un-eatable. My wife ordered well done and received it pink in the middle. I ordered medium and received it more medium rare. Both still tasty, more fat than I'm use to but still very good. Overall the service was acceptable, could have been a bit faster. The appetizer was half acceptable, don't order the shrimp cocktail. The meal was not worth the money paid for it but was tasty none the less. In my opinion we will not be returning.
(3)James J.
Very nice location, even with the evening fog, overlooking a small marina. Very attentive waiter. Food was excellent - get there early and order the before 6pm 4-course specials. I had the brisket dinner - cooked perfectly to order. Dessert was key lime pie in just the right serving size. If I get back to Bellingham, I'll be back!
(5)Nevara S.
Food is delicious, but definitely a little pricey. If you can get there between 330 and 630, they offer the best happy hour in Bellingham. Inexpensive appetizers and a great atmosphere..if there is room in the bar. 4 course dinners before 6pm are also a great deal!
(5)Steven C.
I'm not easy to please, yet I'm thoroughly pleased with the Hearthfire Grill. The best casual, modern elegant dining experience in B'ham.
(5)Paul D.
Such a great location to hang out on a sunny summer day...we dined outdoors and watched all the activity in the marina! Whenever we're in Bellingham we at least catch a dinner or lunch there. The atmosphere is so enjoyable! The food and service has never let us down either. Both are above par in our experiences. I wouldn't say the food is exceptional...but enjoyable. Perhaps not worthy of $$, but then you are paying for location too! We'll be back for sure.
(4)Lorne M.
I've definitely had better, for a lot less. The view is good, but the service was mediocre and slow. The fish was frozen and over breaded. Portions were small and really lacking in flavor. Our waitress could barely manage our three plates and asked that we take them from her and place them on the table, telling my mother that her's was a little warm when she handed to her. This is probably the last place I would eat in Bellingham.
(2)Howard L.
Nice place for a steak and a view of the bay. It's right next to the Bellingham Hotel, and you're "with the crowd" at this location, as opposed to being in a more quiet, quaint setting like historic Fairhaven. Steaks are pricier here than at say Dirty Dan's in Fairhaven, so it just depends on what you're looking for. I had a smallish 9 oz American Kobe New York strip, but it was filling.
(3)Arynn M.
My boyfriend and I got a gift card for Christmas so we hiked down. The atmosphere was lovely, the building is spacious and well lit. I have no idea how the food was. There is not a single non meat item on the menu. Not even a salad. The waitress didn't seem open to the sort of meal-from-scratch-substitutions I would require. Perhaps I have spent too much time in Bellingham, but I haven't been to a restaurant with nothing I could eat in years. The wine was good.

I have eaten here a lot, and its gone down hill in the last year or so, the last few times I had lunch here it took way too long & my food arrived cold, the wait person was obviously handling too many tables to give any one proper service (not his fault, thats bad management) he was trying but you cant be everywhere at once. Lunch & dinners have arrived cold more than once, we all have the occasional bad day, and yes they are really good about fixing it when it happens, (once you can get your wait persons attention) but its happened way too many times for it to be the occasional glitch.... the slow service and lackluster food has become an expectation and normal. When I go there now (only when outvoted) I EXPECT slow service, a generally less than welcoming atmosphere (it feels like they take you for granted) and slow to bad service... and a 50/50 shot that my meal will arrive cold. I used to call this one of the best places in town....not so much any more, I might get lucky... but Anthonys isn't a cheap restaurant and for that kinda cash, I am not willing to roll the dice and "hope" my meal is hot, and that Im going to get good service. I recommend a pass!

This place is really hit or miss for me. The appetizers are always amazing but they really tend to over season and over salt all of their meats. The fish is always good though but for the price, I don't want to have to guess who's cooking that day.

Have had chicken penne pasta here several times over past few years, and I find the same problem with this dish, even worse this time (Tuesday 5/7/2013). The pasta itself was a slight bit overcooked, common for a non-Italian restaurant trying to make Italian pasta dishes. But there is no excuse for the thick, sticky, way-too-starchy sauce. Too much heavy cheese, regular milk and/or cream in the concoction, which probably was prepared too far in advance, giving it time to congeal. In other words the overdone American-style sauce ruined the acceptable pasta. My advice and request: Freshly made light sauce with a thin cheese (e.g. fresh dry gorgonzola).

Dinner is typically on the pricier end. But if you're looking for a nice lunch, the prices are pretty average. We had lunch here yesterday and the food was quite tasty. I had the Wagyu Blue Cheese Burger and Jake had the steak tacos. The view is pretty and the service is great! My burger was $11.95 and Jake's tacos were $14.95.

Nice view and atmosphere with OK food. Had the chicken caesar and it was good but nothing special. Chicken could have been of higher quality.

Love it! Atmosphere is warm and fun, the service is great, the bar is always hopping, and the management is fantastic. My parents love to visit Anthony's Homeport when they come to town, but I switched it up and took them to Hearthfire and I have created two more raving fans. They have a great variety of food and everything is really well-priced for what you get. And the view and patio seating areas are as good as they get.

WOW! Where do I begin...? I guess with the great vibe of the restaurant and the waitstaff! The bartender Larry made an amazing roasted pear martini that was so perfect! He was very attentive and funny and made the meal even more great. He recommended the margarita shrimp because I was in the mood for some pasta and seafood. He couldn't have recommended a more perfect dish for me. I started with the tomato soup and it warmed me up and tasted amazing!!! The manager Chris came by and I was asking about the islands I could see far in the distance and he gave me a whole history of what was out there! I was so impressed! I highly recommend this restaurant! I'm from out of town but if I'm ever back in Bellingham I'll make SURE to make a stop at Hearthfire!

I admit, I already have it out for for restaurant chains. There's nothing charming about two Anthony's restaurants within a two-block radius of eachother. The food is sub-par considering the price range. Their halibut made me seriously question their statement that Anthony's seafood is "so fresh its where the fishermen come to eat". With that said, they keep a great staff. Yay for friendly waiters.
(3)Marla H.
Love this place and go often! The view can't be beat overlooking the harbor. The happy hour is the best in town...the burger, pizza , etc. all for $5. Is delicious. The service is always excellent and the bartenders are very friendly as well. My favorite!
(5)Dave C.
I've eaten here for lunch a handful of times and I have also eaten at Anthony's down the road. I was really not overly impressed with Hearthfire Grill. I have had a handful of salads and other items but nothing really stuck in my memory. I'd say for the price, I'd just go over to Anthony's. The service is great and the place is very nice, but overall the food is just OK. Good for once and a while, but nothing special.
(3)L A.
It was eh... ok. The food wasn't BAD but it wasn't "to die for" either. I mean I guess for it's location it's a place to go but the only reason we ate here twice in one week is because Bellingham didn't have that much to offer in the area of our hotel.
(3)Clifford T.
Ate in the bar. Service was poor, food was below average. Will not go there again. Bellweather next door is much better.
(2)Dealer O.
Great! Happy hour is the best time to go sit at the bar with good deals on appetizers and drinks, but get there early. Many times I was disappointed to arrive at the peak of the rush and there was no place to sit. I don't hold that against them - it just means they are popular - with good reason. The table seating is great if you are with a group. The views are what makes this place so special. I could stare out that window for hours. (as long as I have a drink!) Sometimes the food takes a while to get to you, so be prepared to show some patience. Its worth it. The food is delicious here. A little on the pricey side but it pays for that view.

I love to go here with my mom and watch the boats. Very peaceful.

By far the classiest place on the lunch list, Anthony's is one of the few corporate chains I ever recommend. Despite my aversion to chains, Anthony's gets a pass because they are a small chain, because they have really good food, and because they are based here in the Northwest. Situated near the marina at Squalicum Harbor, next to the larger Anthony's at Squalicum Harbor, the Hearthfire Grill is a solid choice for professional lunches or out-of-town guests. The decor and food are all good, but the view is the main attraction. The Hearthfire sits about 10 feet from the water, with beautiful views from most of its many windows.
(3)Jessica R.
Always the PERFECT place for afterwork for their famous Happy Hour! Your choice of any fabulous martini drink or wine for only $5 bucks -- Plus, they've got a great appetizer menu for cheap, too. Oh and ya gotta try the Blue Cheese Salad... to die for! Yummmy, good! *Better get here early so you can find a killer seat with all the rest of the cool & beautiful people from Bellingham!* See ya down there!
(4)Ryan M.
The Hearthfire is okay. I like their Happy Hour. $5 glasses of wine and $5 pizzas. The 3 for $3 swimmers and sliders are nice too. The ambiance of the Squalicum Harbor is the Hearthfire's saving grace. What I don't like about the Hearthfire is the main restaurant. The prices are steep and the food is mediocre. The wine prices are way too high. I haven't had any issues with service in the main restaurant, but the overall experience is mediocre which doesn't fly for top dollar. Better recommendations for a nice meal in Bellingham would be Dirty Dan's, Nimbus, or Silver Reef Steak House.

I keep coming back for the crab corn chowder and happy hour! The restaurant menu and food is so-so. Not as good as it should be for the price. Lovely view - only place I'll go INSIDE to take advantage of a sunny day.
(4)Michael H.
Just finished one of their $20 "early dinners". These used to be a good deal but they have eviscerated it by eliminating the appetizer and giving you a spoonful of crap for what used to be dessert. What's left isn't worth twenty bucks so they're clearly trying to chase you into their more expensive main menu. What they're going to do is chase me out the door to another restaurant. cYa!
(1)Eugene M.
The food is mostly good. The service is fine. The food takes a while to get there, in my experience. The view is nice. But, in my opinion, you're mostly paying to be here/be seen eating here, rather than for the food. And at a restaurant, I generally prefer going for the food.
(3)Tara C.
The best aspect of the Hearthfire is the view. That's the main reason that I frequent this place as often as I do. I always say that it's a shame that we live on the bay and don't have other choices to enjoy the view. Their happy hour is always enticing as they have quite the happy hour selection from crab dip to sliders to tuna tartare. Their bar is also a bit unique, well, besides the bay/marina view, it has a chilled parking area for cocktails & the best appletinni's in town. The Halibut cheeks are delicious, as are the steaks...if you end up there for dinner.

We had a group of 12 and came to celebrate a birthday. I do realize that the group is large which means it is more difficult to provide good service; however, the service should be better than what we received considering the prices on your menu. I found Hearthfire to be considerably overpriced. The view from the restaurant is nice and the ambiance inside is okay- I think my favorite part were the restrooms... Our large group was sat by the window with a nice view of the bay- we were given menus and asked for drinks. We had ordered some beers and waited. Our server came back and we ordered wine for the table- still waiting for our beer. The wine came out and it was very awkward how the server handled the wine, actually spilling wine on our birthday boys' white polo shirt. Wine has been poured and we still have no beer. When our beer arrived the server placed it on the table spilling beer as she set it down- didn't wipe it up, just left it on the table and carried on. We all placed our orders and the food came out surprisingly quick- at first I was impressed then I tasted the food. I had the Salmon salad that was upwards of $26.00. When I ordered this the server commended me on my choice as this was also her favorite menu item. I love salmon and don't have it often- I was left utterly disappointed by my salad as it had no flavor at all. Either the dressing was left off completely or this dish just failed. I wasn't the only one that ordered the salad and we all agreed on the flavor issue. Others at our table had the flank steak- they seemed to enjoy it. When it came time for dessert, those that had the early special received their dessert- then the server came out with a candle lit dessert for the birthday boy. After everyone was served, the server handed dessert menus to those of us that didn't have the special. Question- why wouldn't you bring the menus out before you serve everyone else so that we can all have our dessert at the same time? We didn't order dessert because the others would have been waiting on us to finish at that point. Overall, I was very dissatisfied with the food and service. Will not be spending another penny here.

A group of us had dinner here last Sunday and we were not overly impressed. The crab / corn chowder was very good, but the shrimp cocktail was awful ... couldn't even finish it. The French Onion was overly sweet and lack salt, while the Rib-Eye was prepared as ordered, however, it lacked seasoning. The Yukon potatoes were very good. The service was attentive and the location was very nice. Overall, the group felt there were just as many hits as there were misses ... hence the three stars.

A really lovely location - the view is pretty, the restaurant has a very nice set up. Lots of open space and interesting architecture add to the ambiance of the place. We had a great artichoke/crab dip appetizer. Very tasty. The BF had the surf 'n turf dinner and was pleased with the crab and steak. I had fresh caught salmon and really enjoyed it. Good flavor, and the peas were fresh and delicious. For dessert we had a huckleberry tart with vanilla ice cream. Super good. One star removed: The rice was one of the worst things I've ever tasted. Both the BF and I agreed. It looked like it was going to be a white rice with little bits of wild rice mixed in. Oh no. It had some sort of unnatural cinnamon flavor to it. Gross. Otherwise, we had a very nice dinner at the Hearthfire Grill.

Wonderful service and atmosphere. The bar has an ice bar to keep your drink cool... that totally had me intrigued for a good while, I was zoning in and out of the conversation I was in... trying to determine if it really worked. The happy hour is awesome. I've enjoyed great conversations here and the service is always quick and friendly. Since I've only ordered happy hour stuff, I can honestly say that it's all delicious! I suppose I have to eat here for an actual meal. Oh, the restroom is quite the experience as well.. I felt like I was in some restroom in an upscale/trendy club in vegas! If you are going to visit the hearthfire grill, make sure you visit the restroom!

One of the best experiences I have ever had, and it was just lunch with my daughter. I ordered the fish and wedges and a cup of Dungeness Crab & Corn Chowder. My daughter also had the children's fish and wedges. I was a little disappointed when we received our plates and I had only three small fish pieces with fives potato wedges as my daughter had two fish pieces and three wedges. I paid 13.95 for my fish and 7.95 for hers. This is the only reason they get a four out of five stars. The one thing that really caught my attention was the Dungeness Crab & Corn Chowder!!! This is a must for everyone! The best chowder in the would as far as I'm concerned. The Dungeness Crab & Corn Chowder gets a definite 5 out or 5! I will be going back to the area soon JUST for the Dungeness Crab & Corn Chowder. Oh my God, it is that good!

Excellent Food and Service. Doug is an amazing chef, and you can't get a better waitress than Shea! The Thick Cut Pork Chop was cooked to juicy perfection.

Went for lunch, menu had some excellent and exciting options. It was difficult to narrow it down to just one choice. A glass of Chateau St. Michelle riesling in hand, I selected steak sandwich cooked medium rare while my boyfriend ordered the Waygu steak. We also asked for some of their complimentary flatbread. The flatbread was the best I've had to date, and we asked for a second order. The Waygu steak was delicious though really bloody and raw for a medium rare steak. My companion is culinary arts degree holder so he had some issues with potatoes that accompanied his steak. He said they were surprisingly bland compared to the steak. He wasn't very pleased with them. My steak sandwich was presented like a beef dip you might find in other restaurants. The steak inside was cooked well done rather than the desired medium rare. The sautéed onions were, sorry to say, a mess! Mushy bland and just gross. The steak sandwich was awkward to eat, I tried to use a fork and knife at first but that didn't work so I tried to eat it as a beef dip, only causing the au jus to run down my hands. So in the end, I took the meat off the bread and pushed the onions away completely and ate it as I would a normal steak. Not their best meal by far. I've eaten here before and had much better meal so I'm giving 3 stars because I know they can do better.

I've only been here once for my friends birthday. The restaurant itself is a very nice layout and atmosphere. Decor is modern and the hand blown glass & open space is really nice. Having said that I want to convey that the food is fairly good. You do get quite a bit for the dollar and the specials allow for some interesting items. I did get a lobster tail and it was SO overcooked it was like rubber. One good thing was that as soon as I complained the server took it away & brought back a perfectly cooked one within minutes. They actually serve fresh grilled vegies with the entrees if you want which is great. Service was very good. Wine list was pretty good. My friends' steak was not cooked properly either. With steak or seafood it needs to be cooked the right way. Overcooked fish is disgusting & if someone doesn't like their steak rare, the sight of that can ruin an appetite. So I would of given the restaurant a higher rating if the food was prepared the right way. I would go back sometime in the future because there is something for everyone to eat.

This place had great food, is on the water, has a great atmosphere and the service is great. Worth checking out.

Great addition to the Bellingham restaurant scene! Though it pains me to pay compliments to a chain restaurant, Anthony's deserves enormous credit for taking the boring old Marina restaurant and turn it into a lively upscale spot that well exceeds chain-restaurant expectations for stylish food and cool, contemporary decor. More turf than surf, though there are always some seafood offerings on the menu, the steaks are always done well and the rotisserie chicken is exceptional. If you're into green food like me, you'll be pleased to have a choice of well-designed salads to start your meal with. Entree platings are thoughtfully composed and substitutions (I'm guilty of asking often) are cheerfully accomodated. Seating: choose a comfortable table or booth in the large dining room with harbor views, or find an empty barstool and make some new friends. The crowd at the Hearthfire is always friendly. Service deserves a mention: Anthony's chooses and trains staff well. There's a level of professionalism here above the Bellingham average. The wine list is well-stocked with mainly Pacific Northwest selections and for the most part not overpriced, and by-the-glass pours are unusually generous if you're not into a full bottle or would like to set up your own mini-wine tasting by ordering thre or four different selections.

Both Anthony's are our favorite places because of the views and the consistency of the service and food. They always have a fresh, seasonal item - from lobster, to salmon, to fresh peach cobbler. The quantities are a good value, they put the right amount of alcohol in the drinks - even at happy hour, and it's a fun place with a beautiful decor--even the restrooms are tastefully decorated and spotless!

I prefer anthonys over the hearthfire. I frequently eat at anthony's and have only eaten at the Hearthfire on a few occasions. The bread is really good, but I prefer Anythony's steaks over hearthfire. Their portions are smaller and their dessert is not as good. The drinks are also pretty pricey too.

We had generally avoided this place, because we assumed the prices would be more than we would like to pay. We went, however, during their happy hour and found some of the best deals in town! There are only a few choices on this menu, but what there is is nothing short of delicious, and just the right amount for how we like to eat. I typically order the caeser salad with one of the happy hour menu items, which is fine for my appetite. The presentation of the food is not only quite appetizing, but the taste is excellent. In addition, in the Spring and Summer, you can sit outside and admire the view of the San Juans, the harbor, and the sunset. So glad we tried it and found this dining out option.

we just had a family event here with 26 people and everything was fantastic. with that many people you expect the staff to scrimp on stuff, forget orders, take a long time, etc. instead the service was excellent, nothing was forgotten, we got our food and appetizers in an extremely timely fashion and the food was amazing. i heartily recommend this place!
