Room is not like picture online. Small but has a fridge TV and bathroom. AC was very loud. Nothing around to do at night during the week, restaurants close at 8 and bar down the street at 9. Bed was comfortable. Continental breakfast was horrible.

You can't beat the price of this place. The staff were attentive and nice. Complimentary breakfast was delicious. Room was clean. Plenty of Heady Topper on hand. We will definitely be back. Much better than our experience at the Stowe Mountain Lodge the next night and it was a tenth of the price. Make sure to ask them to turn on/up the heating before you arrive. Our room when we finally got to Stowe (in the middle of December) at 2:30am was a balmy 57 degrees.

This is a great place to stay if you're on a road trip and looking to save money. The place was clean and quiet and we got a big room for a good price. The internet went out (which was hard to deal with) but the manager more than made up for it. Lets just say, we were very happy! I got a very good nights sleep while I was here, so much so that I missed the free breakfast. The employee who was closing up the kitchen stopped what she was doing and made me a whole pot of coffee. Very nice! I would definitely stay here again. Very charming place!

I think these reviews are a bit exaggerated. The place is sort of out dated but it gave it the feeling of the old fashion inn they were going for. Staff was extremely friendly and the room was clean. Our room had no towels or soap but we told the front desk and they instantly sent someone up to take care of it. We rented the suite with the living room fireplace kitchen and private porch. It was adorable and felt extremely homey. Everything worked good and I greatly enjoyed my stay. I would stay here again. The only thing keeping me from 5 stars was the fact that the staff seemed to forget a few things when setting up our room. Nothing huge but the only major thing I would suggest they fix. The outside could use a few repairs and some paint, but nothing so extreme it ruined my stay.

Stayed here as part of a ski group deal. Overall the experience was "Ok", I'd go 2.5 stars. The staff was friendly, a breakfast was included in our package that was decent (pancakes, eggs, bacon, etc. etc.). The website is a little misleading, as the photos show the "inn", which is the old house looking building. The majority of the rooms are in the "Carriage House" as they called it, which is really a 1970's motel built next to the Inn. There are a number of other outbuildings as well. The room was clean, a bit dated, but I didn't mind that for the price paid. The beds were cheap however, and the pillows and linens were pretty bad.

This has the feel of a motor lodge rather than a Vermont inn. The furnishings are cheap and carpet dirty. In fact, there was a large lump like a frost heave under the carpet as you go into the bathroom from the bedroom. On the up-side, the room was spacious and it's in a good location to walk to town.

We had an amazing filet mignon made perfectly to order - for me: "bleu". The duckling was extremely tender. Excellent wine list! Attentive service, stylish, friendly, and not overbearing.

STAY AWAY !! On Jan 27th we were checked out of another Stowe inn because we were supposed to travel home that day. Unfortunately there was a travel ban due to a blizzard back home. We decided we would try one of the other local inns "The Stowe inn ". At 3pm my daughter and son in law went to check in while I waited in the car with my sleeping Grand daughter. My daughter sent me a text saying the room hasn't been cleaned yet so it will be a little wait. I watched a man walk into room 118 without any cleaning supplies or bedding. He shook out the door mat. I thought he was a guest. To my shock the key my daughter came out with was to that very room ! We walked inside and clearly the sheets were never changed they had hair and filth all over them. They gave us another room 119 and sent a woman to change those sheets while we were there. She never cleaned the room. We found trash , a tip to a hypodermic needle, hair elastic, candy wrappers, a broken bracelet, luggage tags , a bowl and a clam shell under the beds and furniture. It was gross ! I asked to use their vac. so I could clean the room myself. The vac. they gave me was covered in duct tape and blew dust everywhere. When we said something to the woman who changed the sheets but neglected to clean the room she said she has only been cleaning for 3 days and that she is a cook in the restaurant and a nurse. We actually fell for her story until we read reviews on another site where she said the same thing to other guests. Don't let her fool you. When I was finished vacuuming that room the manager came out and said we can see your unhappy we would like to put you in a 2 room suite inside the inn. When we went to the desk the manager asked the man I saw in the first room if the suite was clean. Twice he said no ! After she asked the 3rd time he said oh yes it's clean ! As we were walking up the stairs to suite 301 we could see trash all under the bed. We went into the second bedroom and not only was there trash under the bed there was a wad of gum just sitting in the middle of the floor ! We went into the bathroom and the light was filled with bugs ! The wall sconce was also filled with bugs ! That was it. 3 strikes you are out !!! Absolutely gross there ! We stood in the lobby in front of the manager and called Expedia. We told Expedia that we would like a refund and that we need to leave because the place was filthy. He said he will have to call the inn. I told the manager that Expedia was calling them. She LIED and told them I was scamming them ! Like I carry bugs and trash around to inns with me ! After she hung up I told her she lied to them ! I told her she knows that all that trash and bugs were really there and she agreed. What she didn't know is I never hung up with Expedia ! He still had me on the line but called her from a different line ! He heard the entire conversation I had with the manager. He laughed and said your money will be refunded. I would also like to add that the website says inn but they also have a motel behind the inn. They don't tell you that ! You might think you will be staying in an inn but in reality you might be staying in an old rundown and filthy motel. Stay far away from the Stowe Inn !!!!

The Stowe Inn and Tavern needs some help. It need to enter into the 21st century. Stayed here this past weekend and since we book it and was paid for we had no choice unless we left and went home, which frankly we considered. The room and furnishing throughout the hotel are dated, worn and need replacing. Our room was not serviced, we needed to call the the front desk to get new towels. The towels we have in the room where stained, clean because they smelled of bleach, but stained. On the ride home my wife told me she cleaned a number of small red spots from the wall near the mirror in the bathroom. Not idea what it was, you decide for yourself. We did eat in the tavern one evening. The food was good, over priced for the dated very cold dining area. We did have drinks on the front porch were we watched the parade of antique cars which was nice, but it was the only redeeming factor of the stay. No, I would not do this again.

I can't speak for the Inn part, but I love eating dinner in their River House Restaurant! They have a delicious Prime Rib and other daily specials that don't disappoint! They have good live music on the weekends/holidays as well. There is a full bar and some good local beers too! The staff are very pleasant and friendly, I recognize the same bartender/servers every time I go. I always leave happy and satisfied!

Very enjoyable stay! Staff was outstanding! Only inconvenience was the bathroom had zero counter space. Used the ironing board and luggage stand in the closet instead....lol! Well, it always helps to invent! ;). Lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance. Also, as stated in other reviews, walls are thin, as it is a bed and breakfast, not a commercial hotel. I believe, if (and when) I come back to Stowe, this would be my choice again.

The place is not bad but there are better places I have stayed in the area. The positives: it's clean and close to main places I like to go to. The negative: you hear everything from across the other room and and hallways. There was a family with kids that were up at the crack of dawn running in the hallways very loud all morning so sleeping wasn't an option. It felt like they were in our room. The concierge was at the desk but was oblivious to all this going on. For this reason, I probably won't go back.

Stayed 3 nights over labor day weekend. Breakfast was excellent that weekend! Thought we definitely got what we paid for. Note there are two sides to this Inn. An upgraded side (Main building) and a lower grade side (carriage house) . We stayed in the cheaper side and yes it was "ok" not great.. However if I wanted to pay extra I could have stayed in the Main building.. We got what we paid for. We talked to the owner from California and was very impressed with her. The cook was also a super nice guy. I would stay there again! :)

It's old in a cute way, once you step in the door you feel as if you just stepped through a time machine. The staff was friendly. The rooms were clean. Downsides are, no coffee until 7:30 (the only way to get coffee before this is to walk to the gas station because there are no coffee machines in rooms), the heating unit was terribly loud, and WiFi sucked.

I would leave 2.5 stars if I could. I agree with others here, the inn where we stayed was fairly nice with an Inn charm, but the outbuildings were very depressing. Maybe they look better in the snow ;) Highlights: Our deluxe room was nice. There was a second bedroom for the kids. It was dated but nice. The pool was freezing but decent. Lowlights: Cost - was over $700 for both nights for 4 travellers. The free wifi never worked and I spent over an hour trying to make it work (tech savvy guy). The light was out in our hallway, and the windows could not open, so it was noisy small ac units for us when an open window would have been nice. Staff, while friendly, seemed powerless to affect things. Innkeeper area was frequently closed with no staff visible. The free breakfast was terrible and the $10 per warm plate option looked equally so, so we skipped and went to breakfast on main street. Overall, I feel like we could have done better and will pay more attention to Yelp reviews on our next booking.

Great deal online and got upgraded to the luxury suite as well. AC in window didn't have the sliders go all the way to the window and they had heavy duct tape instead (still with a gap). Beds were OK, pool could use a cleaning, overall very nice place. Most unorganized and dysfunctional continental breakfast I've ever seen in my life. Easy access to the Stowe Rec Path as well. Would consider staying again if price was right.

We stayed in Stowe for a large lacrosse tourney. This inn, not a great value. But compared to room our friends got at another "inn", better. Our room was in original structure. Last update? Probably early 80's. Furniture looking a bit tired. So, tiny, dated bathroom. (Recently painted). Burnt out lightbulbs. Light switch which didn't seem connected to anything in room. Disconnected alarm clock. I was not interested in moving the massive 4 poster bed to access wall outlet. Guess the help doesnt want to either! Heat/AC unit incredibly loud. As in, jet engine! Breakfast? Meh. Had to pass thru dark hallways, past dark common areas to get to Tavern/breakfast room. Met another guest in lobby bathroom. No TP either stall. She said none in her room as well! Ok! They did quickly restock when told. Skeleton crew on, tho this event the second in town of the season, and most hotels are full. For over $330/night, I hoped for better.

Not horrible but not at all worth the amount we paid. Room was incredibly small, there was a floor board missing in the bathroom, which looked disgusting. The whole room just felt stale and like they didn't really take great care of it. I found out after we checked in that we could have stayed at the beautiful Stowe Mountain Lodge for only $50 more. I will remember that on my next trip up to Stowe. I was sad to give it 3 stars because I was really hoping for something great, but I was let down. Hopefully they reevaluate their pricing and look into possibly updating the rooms a bit.

OMG! By far the worst dining experience of my life! So bad and comical it was almost like we were on candid camera. My family and I went here the day after Christmas...the beginning of high season for Stowe. First the hostess (who was really the inn front desk clerk) seated us and took our drink order. 10 minutes later the bartender/waiter showed up at the table with no drinks. He then took our drink order again. 10 minutes later he showed up with a "dry martini" with a wedge of lemon in it and a Manhattan with unidentifiable contents. At least he got the beer and ginger ale right. Now I have to tell you, so far this is the good part. When ordering he told my sister-in-law that the chicken confit meant it had leg and breast. Someone please send them the following link! culinaryarts.about.com/o… Thankfully, they were out of that dish anyway. He didn't know anything about the menu (or as far as we could tell bar tending) and seemed generally clueless. When we finally got our food it was HORRIBLE!!! The lettuce in the salad was brown/purple and the cherry tomatoes had been frozen. The gnocchi was an alarming green and grey in color and my mother's apricot chicken was a frozen cutlet, fried with apricot jam on top. Just gross. This place needs a serious dose of Restaurant Impossible. Run...do not walk, away from this "dining" experience. At least we have had something to marvel at and laugh about for the remainder of our stay in Stowe.

bad bad service(noisy AC, broken lamps, dirty towels)...worst breakfast ever, they even charge extra for bacon and egg!

We had a pretty bad experience. We had a small room, the sink and shower were both missing the stoppers, the counters were worn through and it looked like the decor was from the early 80's . The "restaurant" was laughable. They were trying to charge five bucks for a continental breakfast that had tiny dry muffins and nothing else! The full breakfast was your choice (make that no choice) Of eggs, bacon and wonder bread (I'm not kidding). It was ten dollars. THe next morning all the muffins from the day before were at the front desk and were free. They say the owners live in California. They need to get back to stowe to check out their crap inn!

My husband and I spent one night at the Stowe Inn and were disappointed. We also bought the Living Social package, soon to realize that it really wasn't worth what we paid. When we arrived at the Inn, the receptionist was on the phone for a good 4 minutes before acknowledging us. The room was dingy and dark, the carpet had stains and the bathroom floor had not been cleaned prior to our arrival. The Inn was super quiet (we may have been 1 of three other parties staying there) which made everything a little more creepy. The free appetizer and craft beer tastings were not the best, especially when we overheard our server talking about us having our "free stuff" as she went back into the kitchen. The continental breakfast in the morning was pretty terrible - days old muffins, instant oatmeal, old bagels - not to mention the dirty bowls and silverware. Yuck. The best part about the Inn was the location for a couple of non-skiiers. Great proximity to restaurants, the recreation path and shops. Like another reviewer said, I would definitely pay more to stay somewhere nicer if we were to visit Stowe again. We were actually supposed to stay another night, but decided against it because of the poor accommodations.

It;s pleasant and cozy inside, and they often have music. These factors have brought me back to the Stowe in three times to keep giving it another chance, but the food is just pretty good, so I will have to skip it this season. I was disappointed to find farm-raised salmon and no other fish options, as well as not-so-creative choices on the menu (jasmine rice, just plain- can boil some at home.) Nothing here is bad persay, but it's just nothing special.

I try to stay here everytime I come up to ride Stowe. Owner is alway very accomodating to our group. If you stay at the carriage house, dont expect anything fancy but he place is clean, warm, has comfortable beds and is priced right. Its perfect for a group of snowboarders that need an inexpensive place to crash after a long day of riding, hopefully on fresh pow pow.

Very cute and well maintained, recently renovated building. Extremely friendly and cheerful desk staff, rapid check in and out. Our room was clean and cozy, and the beds were absolutely heavenly. There's a tavern and restaurant located in the inn but we didn't eat there, although the menu looked very delicious. They also do a complimentary continental breakfast until 9:30 AM but we were on our way to the Dutch Pancake Cafe. The living room area is so cozy with a fireplace and lots of books. There's also a game room with a pool table, a jacuzzi, and I believe a pool, too. But it was late in fall, so did not partake. It's located right at the crossroads of the two main roads in Stowe, and it's steps from the recreation path, the covered pedestrian walking bridge, a coffee shop, lots of galleries. They have a variety of accomodations, from the standard inn where we stayed to more motel budget housing in a separate building.

This is a review for both the Inn and the restaurant. It's only getting 2 stars because I don't think I would stay here again if i ever come back to Stowe. Don't get me wrong, the people who worked here were pretty friendly, but it wasn't what I exprected the place to be like. The Inn - The inn had a cozy feel to it, but everything from the tv, to the wall paper, to the books/magazines/board games available to the guests were all old and dated. The room that I got was pretty sizeable, but there was a leaky shower that kept dripping all the time and the air conditioning was really loud. There was breakfast being served, but there was nothing spectacular about it. I was actually expecting more from a Bed & Breakfast. All they served were scrambled eggs, bread and there was 1 waffle maker which everyone was waiting on. At some point, they ran out of eggs and everyone was just waiting for a refill. There was a limited amount of fresh fruit and cereal. I've had better food at some other cheaper lodging. The restaurant - how to put this gently? They served me raw wings! And then they ran out when they were going to make us a new batch. We were told that it was a good idea to make a reservation. May be we showed up a bit late (8:30 is late?) but there were only 2 other small groups there. We overheard that they also ran out of burgers. I was disappointed at their selection of food. I guess they were transitioning to a new menu since what they advertised on their website was different then what they offered (they now have the correct menu on their site). Their hanger steak was good and the clam bake was good (not spectacular), but that doesn't take away from the fact that I was served raw chicken. From the drinks menu, they had a bunch of beers listed but they didn't actually have all of them. I wanted to try a specialty drink but they didn't have the Maple Liquer that was required. They just didn't have anything in stock! At the end of the meal, we were asked if we would like any dessert and they told us there were only "a few" items. Chocolate cake and creme brulee are 2 items, not a few. Overall, I didn't have a bad time but it was just mediocre. It was only worth the price because I had bought a discount off a discount website.

We stayed at the Stowe Inn for 1 night and our experience was not good from the moment we tried to check in. The desk clerk was less than helpful and it seemed we had to prod for information rather than trying to be helpful. The room was not ready when we arrived a bit early and were shown the room we selected but was not ready to be occupied so we came back later. Upon our return they gave our room away and had to carry our luggage upstairs to a lesser room. The room was adequate but had some mechanical issues. The Inn was charming but when it was updated they should have stayed with updating in character to it's age. The updates were cheap and it was not in character to this 1820's built Inn. The restaurant was closed so we could not comment on it. The continental breakfast was a joke as there was very little choices in food items. There was nobody to attend to the room as virtually all the tables were full of dirty dishes and no one to replenish the food items. The pricing was too high for what was received in return.

This is definitely the place to stay in Stowe if you want a true Vermont experience. Beautifully kept Victorian house with wrap around porch, original details, classic furnishing and lovely innkeepers. Meg was wonderful from the first time I called to make reservations through the time we checked out. She recommended the Stoweflake Spa which was the highlight of our trip and also McCarthy's for brunch which was casual but also pleasant. Upscale continental breakfast is included in the inn rate and you can make your own waffles (served with VT maple syrup of course). We had 2 rooms, the king superior suite on the 3rd floor and a queen deluxe with 2 beds. Very reasonably priced rooms considering the quality and also other options in the area. We ordered room service one night and everything was delicious (tenderloin entree, mussels in basil, wine and garlic sauce, buffalo wings, shrimp cocktail, beet salad, crab cakes, mushroom & onion soup, sauteed spinach). Andy in concierge was also lovely and very helpful. Do not stay in the motel part of the inn unless you are on a total budget and are not looking for that "quaint inn feel".

My boyfriend and I purchased the Living Social deal that the Inn offered last summer for a 2 night stay in a luxury or deluxe room. We had wanted to use the deal right after we bought it, but since we were told they sold so many that they were booked up for months at that time, we had to book later. We were told we could use the deal for its offer at a later time because of this, which was fine with us. We decided to visit Stowe this past Memorial Day weekend. When I booked, I spoke with a woman that was wonderful and very friendly and very helpful and I thought from there that my experience would be great at the Inn. I was also told that the deal would still be able to be used and that we would just need to be responsible for the tax. I called about a week prior to our stay just to see what time check in was scheduled for and spoke to another different and friendly woman that was helpful but she then asked if I had purchased the stay with a living social deal and when I said yes, she said the owner wanted to speak with me. In talking to the owner I was made aware that we needed to pay even more for the stay. We bought the deal for $279 and it was for 2 nights. On top of this I was told I'd need to pay the tax and extra since it was a memorial day weekend. I was quoted incorrectly on about 3 different occasions in my talks with the folks at the Inn and it made it seem like the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing and that we were being overcharged. The owner was also very abrupt on the phone and kept talking over me which I didn't appreciate. We still ended up staying there since we had already purchased the deal and made our reservations, however. We were also made to believe that since Memorial Day weekend was a holiday weekend that the Inn was in high demand and there wasn't much availability. I think I can count on one hand how many cars were in the parking lot when we got there and we certainly didn't see many people staying at the Inn while we were there. When we arrived there was no one there to check in and we were told that the receptionist would be back shortly by the bartender. We waited for about a half hour for her to get back and then were checked in. The actual Inn was fairly nice- I expected more based on the website though. Our room was nice but again I expected more based on the website and what I was told we would be getting from the staff. Our King Suite wasn't much of a suite and was really just a typical hotel room. It was clean and all we needed though. Breakfast was disappointing. We had cold scrambled eggs and what looked like jimmy dean sausage and bacon and also cereal options. The home fries were burnt and horrible and everything was below par. We opted to go out for breakfast the second day of our stay. We were given drink coupons and a free appetizer coupon for the restaurant there and we didn't even bother to use them based on our breakfast experience. The first morning of our stay, we left a sign on the door to clean our room and when we returned that night the room was untouched. We were offered new towels that night though which was nice. The phone in the room also didn't call out which was frustrating since we didn't get the wifi through our room and our cell phones didn't have service. The whole experience was sub par and I wouldn't stay there again. It was unfortunate, especially since with better service and food, the experience would have been a bit more enjoyable. Stowe is a lovely town and we made the best of our stay anyway.

This place is very sweet and comfy with many considerate touches. Good value when we stayed in the summer and close to town. Last night they had a live band in the restaurant and it all added up to a really sweet experience.
