What a great experience! We called at the last minute on New Year's Day and got reservation at the Chef's Table, offering a view of the kitchen. We watched dish after dish come out, out with one looking better than the next! When the food came , we were not disappointed. We had great mazoh ball soup, moist chicken that was loaded with flavor, and fettucini that was outstanding. Dessert was chocolate mousse cake which was equally as good as a meal. Don't miss this great restaurant when you come to Stowe, and ask for the Chef's Table for a unique experience.

I highly recommend the soufflé with corn, mushrooms and smoked cheese. The calamari is smokey flavored from being grilled, which is nice. Also the banana pudding is really good and comes in a mason jar. You can take the jar with you along with the leftover pudding. The portion is huge. I ordered some side dishes instead of an entree. They were okay. My dinner-mates both had burgers which they liked. I wish there were more items on the menu but I will certainly return for the soufflé and pudding! Service was good. Everyone was friendly and our server checked in many times to make sure we were satisfied.

Warm and inviting dinning with the most incredible food and service! CA is alive and thriving in VT. If I lived in Stowe, I would NEVER cook!

We loved this restaurant. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, intimate yet with a lively vibe. The staff was especially friendly. When I asked about a couple of different Chardonnays at the bar, I was offered two tastings and knowable advice by Mark, who turned out to the the owner. The wine list is very good and interesting and west coast oriented given Mark's California roots. Dinner was wonderful and we would especially recommend the beet salad, chicken, and the ribeye. But the staff here is what makes Plate really shine. Everyone from the owner, servers and a cook we spoke to were warm and enthusiastic even on a very busy Columbus Day weekend night.

So wanted to have a great dining experience in downtown Stowe. We loved the funky atmosphere and music. This is slow food, service was slow, which was absolutely fine with us as we were enjoying the evening. Enjoyed the silver margaritas and focal banger beers. The snap pea souffle was excellent, but have to agree with another review who mentioned the sauce is very heavy for the souffle, but is absolutely delicious as well. The bourbon brined pork chop honestly did not wow, really had no special flavor and the johnny cake was cold, not sure if it was served cold purposely. The salads were good and chicken ok. Total bill for 4 with 2 appetizers, 4 dinners , 2 desserts and 2 drinks each with tip was about $332. The banana pudding was good, but I expected more than nilla wafers, whipped cream and some pudding. Would probably return because the atmosphere, vibe and drinks are good, Maybe sit at the bar and share a salad and apps next time.

Best mussels app. ever! Just the right mix or flavors-lemon, fennel and cream w White wine. Served with grilled bread that rounded out and held the broth well. Friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely return to Plate on my visit to Stowe.

We decided to try a new restaurant and The Plate was excellent! We started with the artichoke mushroom soufflé and it was delicious with an awesome cream sauce ! We also got the Arugula salad which was fresh and tasty! The atmosphere and and wait staff were great too ! We had the burger which was okay but the banana pudding dessert was delicious!! Nice restaurant!

Great meal at a reasonable price

Food was amazing. Pork was excellent as well as the chicken. Ambience was very chic and cool. Great service and it's a must to safe room for the banana cream pie. Yummy This is an amazing addition to the Stowe restaurant scene.

Some things coming out of the kitchen looked quite good. The interior was quite "portlandia" trendy with all the 'barn style' wood, porcelain looking tile and "artisan" lightbulbs. The food unfortunately was disappointing, (especially considering the prices) The vegetarian pad Thai was very watery and tasted only of inedibly sour rice wine vinegar with none of the flavor complexity you'd expect from a pad thai. It was if they had literally just poured a cup of vinegar on top of the spaghetti squash and called it a day. I can't recommend this place based on our experience. I had to get food at the car-b-que parked downtown after because we were starving afterward.

We came here after a long day of hiking and were rewarded with great food, drinks, and decor. The restaurant was a mix of traditional and modern. My whiskey sour was perfect and the food delicious. While the service was at times a little slow, the opportunity to soak up the atmosphere was well-appreciated.

Friendly attentive staff. Burgers were terrific as were the pomegranate mohitos. Funky setting with ok noise level. Recommend to those of all ages.

We finally made it to Plate! We knew that two couples and three teenagers on a Saturday night without reservation might be a bit tricky to accommodate. My sister in-law was parking the car with her husband and my husband had gone ahead to use the bathroom so it was me (a VERY Latina woman) with our son and his cousins walking in. The hostess asked how many. I told her seven and she responded, "Seven is a tricky number to accommodate. We actually don't have any tables available." I informed her that we were flexible and that we could be split into two separate tables and she said that they had a table for four and a table for two and nothing else. I was about to ask her about the possibility of having the kids eat at a table and the adults at the bar or whether we could put our name down and wait for a table when a VERY nice gentleman came over to intervene on our behalf. He said that they could accommodate us together and gave the hostess some instructions. We ended up sitting outside and had a wonderful delicious meal. We later learned that the nice gentleman was one of the owners. I am not sure who the hostess was, but she could really benefit from some more training on how to make customers feel welcome. Overall: great meal, great drinks, and a hip atmosphere. Thanks to the nice gentleman/owner for rescuing the experience.

Excellent comfort food with a Chic Twist. Everything was well prepared with some interesting twists. If you wish to be a little experimental, be sure to make some reservations, as the place can be pretty hopping.

My partner and I happened upon this place on a rainy July 4. From the hostess and the bartender to the food and the other guests, we had a wonderful experience - so much so that we immediately put in a reservation for a larger party a few days later. Plate, and all of the good people who come with it, gave me a great first impression of Vermont.

Went to plate Thursday night. I must say that the chefs nailed it! The entrees were great, and the appetizers very flavorful. A little more calamari and less bread would have helped the seared calamari... But nevertheless... It was cooked my favorite way; not fried. I look forward to my next trip and ask the crew to keep up the good work.

Amazing farm to table food, great ambiance, awesome bar. The best restaurant in Stowe.
(5)Ajay S.
Its good, but like most things in Stowe very pricy.. For the two of us the bill came out to about 120 bucks with 2-3 beers,1 dessert, 2 entrees,1 app, and tip.

I went last night and had a wonderful dinner. The bar staff were very nice and made great suggestions. They know how to make a good cocktail. The recommended soufflé appetizer was fantastic.

Great restaurant. Just opened 2 weeks ago and still working out the kinks. Went there with my family and the service was great- Jamie the owner was extremely attentive to all her guests. Ambiance was cool - vermont style. The Pork chop entrée was awesome! 3 people in our party had it and thoroughly enjoyed its robust flavor. Mushroom Soufflé was delicious and so were the chicken wings. Coconut lemon poppy seed brought the meal to a pleasurable close. Make sure you have reservations! Small place.

We were initially skeptical about bringing our kids as the place looked like it was too nice for my little monsters. Looking around the room, we were one of, if not the only people with kids. But the hostess (later found out to be owner) was super-kind and had just the place for us next to the bar. We set the kids up on a little love-seat with the iPad playing their favorite princess movie and we were good to go. This is one spot we will be returning to every visit to Stowe and you should too! Totally laid back and relaxed atmosphere and the food was delicious. My daughter inhaled the Matzo ball Soup. She loved it and we are from the land of Matzo Ball Soup, so that's a huge compliment. The Mac & Cheese was perfect and equally enjoyed by the kids. I had the Rack Of Lamb with Red Curry/Minted Cous Cous/Carrot Ginger Coulis - I mention the whole name because the flavor combination of each element was amazing. I kept playing with combinations on my fork. Each bite earned a groan of culinary ecstasy. They have since updated their menu, so I'm not positive as to what exactly my wife had, but I assure you it was equally delicious. I believe it was a pork medallions of some sort over summer veggies... Again, tasty, fresh and I'm sure local. (This is VT!) Our lovely server, Anna, was super friendly and attentive (even to the kids!). Pre-meal cocktail was just right (not too strong, not too soft) and the wine recommendations were spot on.

Enjoyed our dinner here. Impeccable service, great ambience and balanced dishes. Can't wait to go back.

I really enjoyed my meal -- Grilled Steak Hanger. It was the right portion. The dessert -- a vegan cheesecake! It practically melted in my mouth! The atmosphere was soothing and relaxing with excellent selection of music playing.
(4)A Local's Review For U.
Had a nice meal at Plate last night, but there were a few things that knocked off some stars. We had the Pork Schnitzel which is new to the menu - in this variation a pork chop filleted and pounded (somewhat) flat. On the plus side, the pork was cooked nicely, the breading was tasty, and the portion was very generous. On the other side of the ledger, I found my self wishing that a little more time had been taken to pound it flatter - part of the appeal of schnitzel is it delicacy and in this case the generous thickness seemed somehow to work against the overall sucess. The pork could also have been better trimmed as several large areas of fat lurked under the breading. The accompanying sauce was hard to get a handle on since it was of a minuscule quantity. Overall a nice, hearty dish, but falling short of excellence mostly through a lack of executional attention. The other entree was the Short Ribs which were cooked to absolute perfection, extremely tender and tasty, kudos to the cook here. Sadly the same could not be said of the sauce which was quite over the line in terms of saltiness - I wound up keeping the excellent ribs mostly away from the sauce. The accompaniments served with both dishes could hardly be called sides, the amounts served placed them more in the category of garnishes even though on the menu one certainly gets the impression that a full plating will be served. It seems that the pricing philosophy at Plate is to separate the sides from the entrees and charge separately for them therefore making the entrees appear a little more reasonable in the $25-$30 range - but add in the sides and more realistically you are looking at a $35-$40 main course. The corn bread served before the meal was way past its due date, dry and firm. I'm sure it might have been wonderful if served at it's peak, but more points lost here due to lack of attention to detail. Also served here was some nutty biscotti with dried cranberries - an interesting attempt but ultimately falling short of full success. I would consider rethinking this portion of the meal - cornbread has a very narrow window of freshness and the biscotti seemed a little out of place here. Summing up, better than average food brought the value equation to almost reasonable for touristy Stowe but only when compared to the local extortionists. Saucing was not up to par and detracted from the overall success - a full star was lost here. Service and atmosphere were both excellent. At it's best, Plate can certainly deliver one of the better meals in Stowe - there seems to be some real talent in the kitchen, but more attention to execution could raise this restaurant to clearly above the competition.

Pretty much a perfect meal. Very good server - nice atmosphere - not too noisy. Fantastic salad of arugula, goat cheese, squash, lentils and candied walnuts. Perfectly dressed. Arctic Char could not have been better. Fargo risotto was surprisingly delicious. My companion had the maple brined half chicken - it was moist and had a wonderful flavor. It came with mashed sweet potatoes (flavored with maple, of course) and brussel sprouts. Drinks were very good.

Probably the best meal I had in Stowe. Nice server, cute little spot not on the mountain road. Open kitchen behind a few countertop seats. This is Stowe so you're not getting anything cheaply but, I live in the nyc area and it wasn't exorbitant to me. Wish there was a little bigger beer selection but understand its a small place catering more to wine and liquor. Nice place for a date. Hope they can stick it out in this town.

Such a disappointment. Have heard great things and the space is really well done. Hostess was super friendly and we were able to get a table without a res and without too much of a wait. Gladly and easily accommodated vegan/vegetarian so we were encouraged from the start. Unfortunately, it was downhill from there. We got the "heirloom" tomato, basil, & tofu starter. Heirloom shmeirloom. It's mid-September in VT, no reputable place should be serving hard flavorless tomatoes (and sure as hell not for $12!) My better half got a modified dish - the original was Sea Bass with a black garlic glaze, dashi, and greens. The server suggested a tofu replacement to make it vegan. While it WAS vegan, it was also fairly flavorless and underwhelming (and, when the bill came it was the same price as the fish...$25 for a small piece of tofu, some sauce and a bit of chard.) I was compelled to ask if they really meant to charge the same and (after an initial confirmation) they did drop the price by $5. I had the cauliflower steak with quinoa and vegetables. The quinoa with beets was delicious - the rest was disappointing. The grilled or roasted veggies were bland, the sauce that accompanied the dish had no flavor, and the cauliflower had been dusted with turmeric (a spice I like) before being served and, as a result, it tasty...well...dusty. Or sandy. In other words unpleasant. Anyway, $70 later (one salad, one beer, two entrees) and we wound up unsatisfied and certain we won't be back. Total bummer.

This place is excellent! Every dish we ordered was delicious and beautifully prepared. Appetizers- calamari, mussels, and the corn mushroom soufflé were almost enough for dinner portions. Main courses were the messy burger, skirt steak, and the matzoh ball soup. I would order each and every item again.

What a great new restaurant! I love that it offered different/ creative food compared to other places near by. The bread basket was amazing!, so definitely ask for that while you are waiting for food. My boyfriend had the messy burger which was delicious, with a side of pan roasted potatoes. I had the roast chicken with cauliflower/ potato mashed with fiddle-heads. it was SO good. Make sure you order a side of fiddleheads- so good!

Food is healthy and love that it's indie owned. But it's LOUD -so plan accordingly. The portions are nice size and food is fresh. A lot is locally sourced. We had cod, burger and cauliflower steak at our table - all good. Don't miss the cauliflower potato mash. The bread basket was also good. Staff help is still a bit on the green side. Water glasses not filled up all the time and our waitress forgot to include our kale salad order. Have been twice and will def go again. It will be KEY in winter that they have a barrier to entry to keep diners warm from open/close of door. So happy there's another good restaurant downtown.

Worst Hostess EVER. The hostess told me and my wife to leave because she didn't know how to handle seating two people and said that there is an hour and a half wait time ( which is a ridiculous wait time to seat 2 people). We then asked to sit (have a drink while we wait for a table) or eat at the bar and she said something about a wild card and how it drives her crazy when people stand by the bar!? She pretty much said we could not eat at the bar and told us to call her to see what the status of tables are in an hour?!!? Usually a host or hostess will take your name or number and call when a table is available not the other way around. We just wanted to have a few drinks and a bite (give our business to this place) so one would assume that the hostess would direct us to the bar and act accommodating or at the very least professional. She was very moody and started getting flustered because there were a few extra people waiting for tables. Now we are at Piecassos which has an awesome vibe and accommodating hostess/staff...

Love! Finally a place in Stowe that's hip and fun, beautifully designed, with elevated food and attentive service, but relaxed and casual at the same time. The kind of place that makes for a special night out and yet I could easily eat there a few times per week- and likely will. All of our table loved our meals and cocktails/wine. I had the skirt steak and snap peas with avocado aioli and the steak was almost fork tender and deliciously seasoned- really top of the line. My husband had the burger which was also excellent, and even the veggie burger which was ordered by my brother, was exceptional. And the banana pudding in the mason jar...I could write a 5 star review dedicated just to that desert...If you are in, or close to, Stowe, this place should not be missed.

Amazing food! Take my word for it the best seat in the house is at the kitchen bar, its a 4 seater area in the back that overlooks the kitchen area! We choose to sit there on a busy saturday night which was the best decision ever! The entire staff was so nice from the hostesses to our waitress and final the guys in the kitchen we work so hard and a really talent! Watching them cook and turn out some great food in no time made us appreciate our dinner even more! The house burger is divine it was so juicy and cooked to perfection! roasted veggie and sweet potato fries smothered in BBQ sauce sealed the deal. We were celebrating a special occasion and the staffs warm wishes made as feel right at home. I really wish we lived closer to Stowe but we were just there for a getaway weekend, BUT when we come back i guarentee Plate will be our dinner spot!
(5)Davis K.
My brother and I ate dinner here on April 2. Found the beer selection very well thoight out. Had the oysters as an app and they were fresh and lovely. The waitstaff was helpful and friendly. Dinner was the best! The atmosphere is comfortable and not too formal. It is new and creatively appointed. Parking was convenient and close by . A very relaxing place. Next time we are out to dinner I will go back.

Finally Stowe has a great restaurant! My wife and I have been coming to Stowe for years and always bemoaned the fact that there were no good, much less great, restaurants. In a recent visit we were hoping that Flannel or Solstice or 10 Acres would live up to their great reviews. Sadly none did, until we got to Plate. This restaurant has one of the greatest vibes I have ever seen, and I am from New Orleans. Every dish we had from start to finish was creative, fresh and delicious, including the banana pudding, which may be one of the best desserts I have ever tasted! The service was attentive, but not smothering, and the one hitch was handled superbly to the point that the Chef came out to apologize and remedy a slight preparation issue. If we had eaten here our first night in Stowe rather than the last, we would have come everyone of our five nights. Quite frankly, until we found Plate we were considering not coming back to Stowe because you just can't enjoy a vacation with mediocre food. Now that all has changed. We will be back and eat at Plate every night!

Stumbled upon this new restaurant on Thursday when we got into Stowe Village late. Food and Service outstanding. You have to try the burger. The whole family agreed it was the best burger we have ever had. Totally different. Chef said the beef had been cold smoked. Owners are a couple. The wife was great. She served our Martini's and by accident spilled one, but was very gracious in comping us two. Hubby seemed a little grumpy. Could be second night jitters perhaps?

(This is a re-write of an earlier review that expressed some dismay over the experience, unrelated to the food, that my wife and I had on our first visit to Plate. I felt compelled to revise our review after Jamie (the owner) reached out to me through Yelp to arrange a call to talk about our experience, apologize that we had any issues, and explain what was going on that evening. I was incredibly impressed not only that she made such an effort, but also with her level of caring and professionalism.) Summary: Very good, fresh, local food in a great setting. Details: The salad special was a very tasty blend of unusual local greens that my wife and I both loved. We also appreciated that our waitress warned us in advance that the salad portion was small, so we each ordered our own and were happy we did. The pork belly appetizer, the sort of dish that is often served dry and overcooked or over-salted, was pretty much perfect -- crispy, moist and flavorful. The calamari, however, was extremely disappointing -- a luke-warm dish (by design, I think) of practically unseasoned calamari with wilted greens, it was begging for something to add a bit of flavor. We shared the cod and roast chicken, both of which were good, with the cod being in both our opinions the better of the two. The fish was done perfectly, moist and flaky, with a flavorful light tomato sauce that I found a bit average but my wife enjoyed a lot. The roast chicken was tasty, though a bit dry in spots. The cauliflower mashed potatoes and sautéed fiddleheads that came with the chicken were both fantastic. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, and my margarita was excellent. All the more impressive was the fact that, apparently, the folks at Plate were able to serve up this meal even with a head chef sidelined by a severe injury and with both one of the owners and a bartender out sick.... We look forward to trying it again.

Excellent food and service with great consistency from course to course. We each had a starter, main entree and desert. Each course was intricate in flavors and well balanced overall. This would be a top notch experience in NYC; definitely an all-star experience in Stowe, VT. Highly recommended.
