We try to eat at this place fairly regularly because we really, really want it to stay open. It is possibly the only inexpensive food in the city that's not a fast food chain or pizza. I'll be honest, coming from Southern California, I would not even compare this to real Mexican food, but by Vermont standards, it is muy bueno. Unlike most burrito places in New England, they actually know how to wrap a burrito and won't mash it into a sad ball of rice and beans. Get the habanero AND mango salsa, and your flavor/spice problems will be solved.

The food was decent. The service? Whole nuther story. The young woman serving customers was snotty, rude, and straight up disrespectful. Memo to her: I don't care what kind of day you had. I don't care the day was hot. I was outside, doing far more physical labor than you. Stop acting like the world owes you. They don't. Your day was almost over. You are the reason I will not go back there, nor will I recommend this place. Your attitude goes a long way, both positive and negative. I found little positive to say about you, and I hope you take this to heart, as do your employers.

I went here today, and got a really yummy burrito! I spoke with the owner, Dean, about having them potentially cater my wedding next year. If I lived in or near Rutland, I'd probably come here a lot. For the reviewers complaining about the price: I got two burritos (one with the added cost of guac) for $16. Would you mind telling me on what planet they sell your typical "big"/standard burrito for less than $7-8 each?

Decent quick and healthy option. I wouldn't call it a burrito shop, per se. It's more of a wrap store with some Mexican ingredients. The tortilla chips are also pretty decent. I ordered the Mexican Raider, but the way the service goes, the burrito-tender moves your wrap down the line asking what you'd like by type: beans, rice, protein, vegetables, etc. For what you get, I would say the prices are a little high.

We rolled in at 7:05pm on a Saturday night after driving for 3 hours, hungry for a meal. My two boys and I spilled out of the car and up the steps through the open doors, looking forward to a quick and light dinner. They said they closed at 7. I'm sure they saw the disappointment on our faces, and said they would make us anything we wanted. We appreciated so much them staying open and serving us a healthy, delicious meal. The whole wheat wraps are very wholesome and they have tons of fillings, take your pick. Easy to say that it's not Subway or Chipotle, because it's not. It's a local, real, healthy shop that has great ingredients and friendly service. The prices are very reasonable, in my estimation. I;m grateful they stayed open and look forward to going back for a breakfast burrito - I hear they are excellent!

Maybe Vermont standards are a little different, but this is definitely not a chipotle-like place. Maybe more Mexican-Subway-of-Vermont. Where they only give you four olives on your 12-inch sub. I feel bad writing a negative review because the man working there was very nice, but the portions were small, and the guac looked prepackaged and scary. Also, there was no flavor...it needed MAJOR salt at the very least.

I have tried to like this place several times because I do believe the veggies taste fresh. Unfortunately I have yet to get something that was any good. The burritos are made to order but all of the beans and toppings are just bland tasting. For the price it's not worth it.

Excellent all around! Tasty chips, salsa, burritos. Friendly service! Lots of options for vegans & vegetarians (& carnivores too). Several styles of tortillas, two kinds of rice, two beans, tofu, four varieties of fresh salsa (mango was delicious!), tons of veggies... You can order from the menu or design your own burrito. They serve breakfast, lunch, dinner. Green Mountain Coffee & fresh baked goods too. Order at the counter & sit where you'd like. Very casual, fine for kids.

This place was exactly what I wanted after a day of skiing. A delicious burrito with grilled chicken, habanero salsa and plenty of fresh ingredients made fast and expertly really hit the spot. If I lived around here I would eat at this place as much as possible. The salsa was very flavorful and the chicken was tender and juicy. They also have other Mexican meals like tacos and quesadillas that I regret not getting a chance to try.

The wraps, burritos, and smoothies are all good, however it leans more on the pricey side. The food always tastes fresh, and it's just as speedy as a fast food joint.

Nice little place. My boyfriend and I sat outside which was nice. It was a little pricey but honestly what I had tasted fresh and amazing. I had a build your own bowl with chicken, black beans, white rice, salsa verde, corn salsa, lettuce, carrots, cucumber and homemade salsa as the dressing. Yum. My boyfriend had the carnitas and it left something to be desired. Bland, mooshy, not authentic at all. That was the only complaint though. Would recommend and return just no carnitas!

For Rutland county this place is great. Cafe Verde has some solid food with a nice atmosphere to complement it. The smoothies and coffee are excellent and the classic mexican raider is killer. I recommend this to anyone looking for FRESH and QUICK food! ITS GREAT! The guy who commented below from Brooklyn below is wrong. This is vermont style, not Brooklyn.

Friendly staff, clean inside, and quick (and good) food. When I visited, they had just opened, so were working out the kinks. The building was recently renovated, and it is great for a sit down burrito. Not a lot of room inside, though. Their menu is full of fresh items, and offers something for everyone it seemed.

Like Chipotle but better. Much better. Really fresh ingredients and a very friendly staff. Excellent burritos (and bowls) for breakfast and lunch.

This place is pretty good but nothing amazing for the price. There is also a strange issue wherein despite listed hours online they are often inexplicably closed so I've learned to not think of them when looking for takeout. Good nutella shakes though! Nobody else makes them in this area so that is a major plus.

I designed my own burrito and it was great. Tasted fresh and came out quick. Service was great and friendly atmosphere. The restaraunt itself was clean and clearly recently rennovated. Overall, great new place in Rutland!

Not at all a great place! Guacamole was smelly, seems it's stale. We took veggie bowl and overall extremely lackluster as compared to chipotle or Qdoba. Tofu was stale.... Lone teen serving the bowl. Wasnt sure about things when I complained. Wouldn't recommend this to guest!! I definitely feel the owner should invest in quality of food and staff. It's pricey as well for the quality. Not at all great experience :(:(

This is more like a hippy salad place / juice bar that is masquerading as a burrito joint. I'm sure if you order carefully you can come away with a wrap that hits the spot - however, by doing the "create your own" we just managed to eat food that was bland and vaguely unpleasant. Some specific missteps -- The salsa verde is described on the menu as hot, but it just wasn't - it added a pickled green tomato flavor to the burrito but no spice. (They offer some other goopy-looking, inauthentic sauces like teriyaki and BBQ that will probably sex things up more effectively.) And their guacamole was just awful -- watery (probably made from those giant FL avocadoes and a mix) and slightly brown. I understand that it's probably difficult to provide fresh stuff in the off season, so maybe just take it off the menu? At least warn people that it's not going to be very good. So, I get the impression that this place is run by people who like healthy food and mean well, but don't actually know much about Mexican cuisine.

We weren't greeted. The meat was dry and old, they were out of roasted chicken, black beans, the girl at the counter dropped a tortilla, rolled her eyes, picked it up and threw it back on the counter. I'm 100% sure that she used it for the next guest. The service was uncomfortably slow and rude. We will not be coming back. Bummer.

This is a great place for lunch or a light dinner, although a little pricey. The ingredients used seem to be fresh and adequate however the decor seems a little "cafeteria-ish" ......almost sterile and very little warmth and didn't seem inviting. Since there is usually one person behind the counter the line can back up quite quickly and the wait could be 10-15 minutes or more, so plan accordingly if you're on your lunch break....and make sure you leave and don't eat there, because you'll hear the staff in the back talking about other employees and customers in a not so polite way.

I don't know what the one bad reviewer ate, but it had to be something off with his taste buds. My husband and I love this place. We go here for lunch and get original sized burritos that we design ourselves. I love shredded beef and they do it perfectly. All the food is fresh and delicious. I never leave feeling hungry or feeling heavy. I highly suggest to go here and build your own burrito. If you enjoy finer food fast, this is your place!

Great food, relaxing atmosphere. Not many fast and healthy options out there, especially in Rutland, so this is really awesome. I had a burrito bowl - you can add anything you like from their selections and mine was delicious. All for a price you really can't beat! Plus, great portion size, I didn't finish my bowl as it was bigger than it looked. Have to try this place out if you haven't been yet! You won't be dissapointed!

The menu is simple but the food is good. The fruit smoothies are excellent.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
